Every Week

Daily Swim Instruction With a low camper to instructor ratio, learn basic techniques and water safety while progressing through skill levels under the guidance and supervision of our Red Cross certified instructors and lifeguards. Campers receive weekly progress reports and are recognized with awards.

Zumba® Kids Jam out to your favorite music during this action-packed, high energy dance experience! Enjoy kid-friendly routines based on original Zumba® choreography.

Classes include fundamental instruction in basic dance steps, energizing movement games, and cultural awareness elements.

Sports Practice sportsmanship and teamwork while learning the fundamentals of soccer, basketball, baseball, track & field, street hockey, flag football, tee-ball, wiffle ball, and Gaga.

With fun weekly tournaments and recreational games, the action is at an all-time high!

ARTventures Through classic art projects, keepsake crafts and literature connections, campers learn the elements of art and the principles of design while discovering Master and Contemporary Artists. Projects include tie-dye t-shirts, clay creations, 3-dimensional crafts, painting, collage and more.

Science & Nature Dig into science and learn environmental stewardship through scientific investigation, cool experimentation, and outdoor exploration including gardening. Weekly themes are featured.

Creative & Performing Arts Make music, dance, sing and learn acting and improv techniques through storytelling, charades, karaoke, tribe cheers, skits and dramatic play. Produce and perform in this year’s camp shows.

Time-Honored Traditions Morning Assembly in Teepee Village gets campers energized for a fun-filled, action-packed day of activities.

Highlights ACC Invitational (Grades 6+) (During the week of Aug 3) ESF is excited to host the First Annual ACC Invitational Tournament. Held exclusively for all ACC Teams, this premier event will feature campers from multiple ESF Sports Camps coming together for multi-sport games, athletic competition and camaraderie.

Bootcamp Fitness Challenge (During the week of July 20) This fun-filled, high-energy event features obstacle courses and circuits designed to enhance physical fitness, speed, agility and coordination. Take the Challenge!

Expert Guests & Clinics Local coaches and other top instructors conduct specialized clinics for improving skill sets.

Ultimate ESF Games Green vs Blue — who will be the champs this year?

Follow the clues for this highly-anticipated ESF tradition of team competitions.

ESF World League Championship Series (Grades 2+) Travel and compete in this action-packed experience. Get in the game. Win or lose, you’re sure to have a blast.

Instruction & Skill Development Proper technique, game strategy and fundamental skills, with an emphasis on sportsmanship, teamwork, dedication, and leadership help to develop the total athlete.

League Games Campers play games each day to reinforce and practice the skill fundamentals that they have learned in each featured sport.

Daily Swimming Instructional swim for Grades 1-3 Recreational swim for Grades 4+ Instruction is also available twice a week, at no additional cost.

Advanced Level Training (Grades 6+) Hone fundamental skills and improve performance through a higher level of athletic training with our expert coaches.

The True Life Adventures start here. With a day that begins with team challenges and ends with a Hawaiian luau. Where we build a real life carnival from the ground up and launch a homemade model CO2 dragster down the race track. With leadership skills and good citizenship built into everything we do. TRUE LIFE ADVENTURES (tla) Uniquely designed for all levels of experience and interest, TLAs offer a different adventure each week.

Zumba® Fitness Perhaps the most awesome dance fitness experience ever!

Enjoy high and low-intensity routines based on original Zumba® choreography as you jam out to your favorite music! Classes include fundamental instruction in basic dance steps, energizing movement games, and cultural awareness elements.

Daily Swim Cool off under the guidance and supervision of Red Cross certified instructors and lifeguards. Recreational swimming is offered daily. If campers choose to participate, they receive an initial deep water safety test to assess their skill level. Optional swimming instruction is also offered 2 days per week, at no extra charge. Progress reports offered upon request.

Art 360° Through classic art projects and keepsake crafts learn the elements of art and the principles of design while discovering various Master and Contemporary Artists! Experiences include tie-dying, clay creations, 3-dimensional crafts, weaving projects, painting in the style of the Masters, collage and more.

Sports Soccer, street hockey, basketball, baseball, lacrosse, flag football, Ultimate Frisbee, and Gaga. Fun tournaments and recreational games are featured each week.

Outdoor Adventure (RockwalL) 1 week Conquer a towering Rockwall with challenges designed for each skill level, under the watchful eye of an experienced instructor. This journey will lead you down the road of self-discovery, as you participate in teambuilding initiatives, collaborative problem-solving activities and exercises designed to develop and enhance the leader in you!

Songwriting & Music Production 1 week Explore music fundamentals and enjoy daily “jam sessions” with a professional producer. Compose and record your own hit songs with hightech, multi-media technology using the Garage Band app on an iPad. For the grand finale, perform at the annual ESF Music Awards.

Carnival, Circus, Magic 1 week Design, build, and host the annual ESF Camp Carnival, one of our most-anticipated traditions. Learn juggling, clowning and sleight of hand magic tricks.

Musical Theater: Princess Whatsername 2 weeks With a classic fairy-tale setting, loads of exciting and hilarious roles, a variety of entertaining musical numbers and a plot filled with mystery and adventure, this Show has it all!

Learn everything from the fine art of stage performance to the behindthe-scenes basics of a theatrical production! A rockin’ musical score adds to the fun, as you prepare to dazzle family and friends at the premier performance of this musical on the last day!

CO2 Speed Dragsters 1 week Start your engines and prepare for the ultimate demonstration of force, motion, speed, friction, and acceleration as you cruise through this powerful TLA. Discover the design process while creating your very own, durable model CO2 dragster. Learn about production, finishing, and testing your custom vehicle - all in preparation for the grand finale, The ESF Dragster Race Day Competition!

CSI Forensics 1 week Learn from expert CSI investigators about fingerprinting, forensic photography, casting, spatter analysis, ballistics and more. On the last day, unravel clues at a simulated Mock Crime Scene, through collection and preservation of physical evidence, crime scene reconstruction, surveillance, detailed reports, and witness interviews.

Breakdancing & Hip-Hop 1 week Learn with step-by-step professional instruction. Develop style and skills with a focus on footwork and coordination. Perform in informal competitions and at the final ESF Dance Party.

Culinary Arts 1 week Join us for a Culinary trifecta of breakfast, lunch, and dinner specialties - with a splash of appetizers and desserts on the side! With the guidance of our executive chef, create and enjoy palate-pleasing dishes.

A Tech-Savvy Summer Technology Majors 3D Game Design with Portal 2 (Grades 6-10) 1 week

If you like 3D-based games and intriguing adventures, then this camp is for you!

Portal 2 is a first-person, puzzle-platform style video game that challenges you to use your wits to solve complex problems.

In this intermediate and advanced-level camp, use 3D game design software and Portal 2 to create your own intricate puzzles, traps and mazes. Parents and friends are invited on the last day to take an adventurous journey through your creations! All skill levels are welcome.

This camp provides an introduction to animation, walk cycles, storytelling techniques and the use of Adobe Flash. Celebrate your creative genius at the Animator’s Festival for family and friends on the last day. No prior experience with Adobe Flash is necessary.

For campers who love music, acting, and video production this filmmaking experience is for you. Collaborate with your production team to create a music video and work together to direct, film, and edit short-form video projects using iMovie. Game Design with Project Spark (Grades 5-10) 1 week

Discover the world’s next best gaming experience… or create it yourself! Microsoft’s Project Spark is an open world game engine that provides campers with a digital canvas where they can make games, movies and other experiences. This playground of creativity provides endless options to build and customize complex worlds and experiences from the ground up! Camp focuses on designing games in a rich 3D environment and also provides an introduction to Brains and Kodu programming. Amaze your family and friends with a display of your imaginative game creations on the last day. All skill levels are welcome.

Introduction to Minecraft (grades 4–10) 1 week

If you can imagine it, you can build it! Use your imagination and learn how to design exciting game adventure maps. Literally “mine” and “craft” your own creations while receiving instruction in game design, mod installation, and basic Redstone. Showcase your 3D world to family and friends at the Minecraft Convention.

No prior experience with Redstone or Minecraft is necessary. All skill levels are welcome.

Junior Robotics (Grades 2-4) Two 1 week sessions – Attend one or both

Join us as we turn camp into a robotics laboratory! Learn the basics of designing and building a robot using LEGO WeDo® robots. Make your robot come to life as you learn how to program it to perform project-oriented tasks and challenges.

Showcase your interactive creations to friends and family on the last day! No prior experience with Lego WeDo® is necessary. All skill levels are welcome.

Minecraft (Grades 4-10) 2 weeks

Use Minecraft to learn how to design, build and explore 3D game adventures. During the first week of camp, receive instruction in game design, mod installation, and a primer on Redstone circuits. In the second week, use your creativity and fine-tune your problem-solving skills, as you navigate the various construction challenges and work with Vanilla Minecraft, Tekkit and Minecraft EDU. Work individually and in groups to maximize collaboration and decision-making as you face design challenges and build your very own Minecraft world. You and your team will even have the opportunity to make a part of a group project come to life with a 3D printer! Friends and family will be invited to explore your 3D creation on the last day. No prior experience with Redstone is necessary. All skill levels are welcome.

Robotics 101 (Grades 4-7) 1 week

Explore the exciting world of Robotics! Learn how to design and build a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS®. Program your robot to perform project-oriented tasks and challenges. For novices, start with the basics of construction and programming. For more experienced campers, develop sophisticated programming and engineering skills. Showcase your robot’s unique abilities for family and friends at the R-BOTX Convention on the last day.

No prior experience with Lego Mindstorms® or programming is necessary. All skill levels are welcome.

Robotics Team League (Grades 4-8) 2 weeks

In this competition-based robotics program, campers work together in teams to build customized, programmable robots using LEGO MINDSTORMS® robots and software. The challenge is to provide innovative solutions to real-world problems by designing and creating specialty robots programmed to accomplish unique tasks. For the grand finale, compete against other teams in predefined challenges at the R-BOTX Convention on the last day where friends and family are invited to attend. With all of these great minds working together, the possibilities will be endless!

Previous experience with robotics is recommended.

The Science of Roller Coasters with Minecraft (Grades 3-8) 1 week Amusement parks are filled with lots of heart-pounding fun, as well as multiple opportunities to learn about science and engineering. In this exciting camp, learn about the physics of roller coasters while exploring kinetic and potential energy, and centripetal force. At camp you’ll build and test, physical and “virtual” roller coaster models. Using various computer programs, including Minecraft, you’ll create virtual roller coasters and build scale models with K’NEX. Turns, loops and drops.... family and friends are invited to go on a “virtual ride” on the last day. No prior experience is necessary!

Minecraft for Kids (Grades 2-4) Two 1 week sessions – Attend one or both

Experience the wonderful world of Pocket Edition Minecraft. Build your own virtual reality in a sandbox-like environment by using iPads to challenge your mind and create your own adventures.

This fun and engaging program will spark interests, foster creativity and help you reach your learning potential. Friends and family will be invited to explore your game world on the last day.

No prior experience with Minecraft or iPads needed.

Minecraft Pi Coding with Python (Grades 5-10) 2 weeks

If you have a passion for Minecraft and computer coding, then this is the camp for you! At camp you’ll receive training in Python program on the Raspberry Pi microcomputer. You’ll utilize your programming skills to create new gameplay features and Mods in Minecraft. On the last day of camp, you’ll showcase your customized scripts, game worlds and new Minecraft features to your friends and family. This camp is recommended for intermediate and advanced campers with an interest in computer coding and who are proficient in the use of both Minecraft and PCs.

In this exciting week of camp facilitated by a science educator expert from Philadelphia’s world renown Franklin Institute, campers will experience everything from the design process and how to collaborate with a team to building some of the coolest projects that will erupt, crumble or maybe even explode!

This week is all about the science of “mess” and we’ll be making our biggest messes ever! By working with our science educator expert in residence from the Franklin Institute, you’ll mix, pour and slime your way through some awesome chemistry and biology experiments. Go ahead; you can get as messy as you want!

Super Cool Science (Grades 3-9) 1 week Experience unique, hands-on science experiments that are as fun as they are educational. From chemical reactions, potions, polymers and slime to solar powered devices, zoon kites, dissections and more; discover answers to tantalizing scientific questions.

Family and friends are invited to the Super Science Expo on the last day.

AQUATICS PROGRAM

Swimming at ESF We develop swimmers utilizing the latest teaching techniques and coaching methods. Beginning with water safety skills and basic fundamentals, we then move on to progressive stroke development and refinement of techniques. Our well-established program is designed to be compatible with the unique and ever-changing abilities and skill levels of each camper. ESF also offers private swim instruction to campers who are interested in devoting more time to enhancing their skills. We also offer Swim Team to those who are seeking advanced level training in the sport of competitive swimming.

Day Camp (Ages 4-8) With daily instructional swimming, campers receive an initial skill assessment and then progress at their own pace.

Progress reports sent home weekly.

Sports Camp Age 6: With daily instructional swimming, campers receive an initial skill assessment and then progress at their own pace. Progress reports sent home weekly.

Make a splash at the pool!

Swimming is one of the most exciting parts of the camp day. Under the guidance and watchful eye of our Red Cross certified lifeguards and instructors, campers develop life skills too valuable to measure while learning to swim confidently in a safe and fun environment.

After Camp ESF also offers private swim instruction to campers who are interested in devoting more time to enhancing their skills. We also offer Swim Team to those who are seeking advanced level training in the sport of competitive swimming.

Swim Team Swim Team is offered for ages 7-15 from June 29 – August 5, 2015 Each camper’s skill level is tested prior to participation in Swim Team. Camper participation is subject to the approval of the Aquatics Director and is based on skill level and safety in deep water.

Practice Schedule: Monday through Wednesday, 2:45pm-3:45pm.

HIGHLIGHTS ESF Aquatics Staff Our all-adult staff is made up of certified lifeguards and instructors who are trained to teach our program and adhere to impeccable safety protocols. We maintain a low staff to camper ratio.

Aquatics Director Seasoned leader who oversees the ESF swimming program as well as the overall quality and excellence in pool area.

Swim Levels ESF has established skill levels that campers progress through at their own pace.

Skill & Safety Testing Campers are tested on first day of camp for skill assessment and/or safety in deep water, depending on age and skill level.

Awards & Progress Reports Campers receive awards as they progress through each skill level. We provide updates on camper progress on a weekly basis or upon request, depending on age and skill level.

The fun and learning continues.

There are three great ways to extend your camp day. Enjoy a variety of specialty clinics and workshops. Attend Club OT, our flexible, before and aftercare program. Enroll in private and semi-private enrichment lessons in swimming, sports, or academic tutoring. Try one or try them all!

Club OT On a regular or a drop-in basis, start the day as early as 7:30am and stay as late as 6:30pm. Club OT campers are divided into groups by age and enjoy sports, games, crafts, chess, book club, drama and much more. Afternoon snacks and refreshments provided. Flexible scheduling with no pre-payment or pre-registration required. Billing is done twice a month by mail.

Carpool Information

Complete both sides of the application, sign the back, and return with a $300 deposit per camper. Once we receive and review your application, a confirmation/invoice will be mailed to verify your reservation(s). Balance is due by April 1, 2015. All applications sent after April 1, 2015 require full payment.

If you’d like to organize your own car pool, please check the appropriate box on the application. In May, interested parents will receive a contact list of other families in their town who are also interested in carpooling.

For the health and safety of all campers, no child will be allowed to attend camp without a completed ESF Health History Record on file. After enrollment, this form will be mailed to you and must be returned prior to camp.

Your attendance is highly recommended to help make your child’s transition into camp as smooth and enjoyable as possible. Orientation dates and times will be mailed in May.

Cancellations & Changes All cancellations and refund requests must be made in writing by April 1, 2015, and are subject to a $50 processing fee per child. No refunds after April 1, 2015. No refunds for late arrival, early dismissal, vacations, illness, or injury.

Changes in enrolled weeks are based upon availability and must be made on or before April 1, 2015.

Optional Bus Transportation It’s safe and easy to get to camp! Optional bus transportation is available for families living in Potomac, Bethesda, Chevy Chase and surrounding areas Features of our transportation service include:

Cancellations & Changes deadline: April 1, 2015 If you need to cancel your child’s enrollment in camp, you must notify us in writing by April 1, 2015 in order to receive a refund.

Cancellations on or prior to this date are subject to a $50 processing fee per child. No refunds will be given out after April 1, 2015 regardless of your registration date. Changes in enrolled weeks are based on availability and must also be made on or before the April 1, 2015 deadline.

Grouping Requests Campers are grouped according to age and grade level. If you would like your child grouped with a specific friend, please write his/ her name and home phone number on this application. Campers MUST be entering the same grade next fall.
