RECREATION GUIDE JAN - APRIL
WINTER SPRING 2024
COVER CLOSE-UP The Police Activity League (P.A.L.) has served the community of Escondido since the 1990’s. The program began as a community bridge program focused on providing youth a safe and accessible way to develop life skills that enable them to become positive citizens of their hometown. The most popular of these programs is the P.A.L. Basketball League that has been serving the community for over 30 years. This recreational league is made possible by volunteer coaches and scorekeepers who create lasting memories and a positive impact on their community. HELP ESCONDIDO REDUCE HUNGER AND FOOD WASTE!
What W Do
If you have too much fruit on your trees, consider donating your bounty to ProduceGood, a San Diego food recovery nonprofit. Contact us via email or phone and we will work to get you on our schedule. Our volunteers will glean your fruit and donate to a local feeding agency.
Why W Do It
40% of all food is wasted, while 1 in 4 San Diegans struggles with food insecurity. ProduceGood aims to close this gap by rescuing excess produce and taking it to those in need. Escondido has partnering with PG to recover surplus fruits and veggies from orchards, small farms and Jimbo’s Market, to bring nutritious produce to those that need it most. In 2022 alone, we recovered 38,000 pounds of citrus from groves in Escondido, providing over 114,000 servings of nutritious fruit to Escondido’s food insecure.
How You Can H
If you have fruit trees, ProduceGood will coordinate a pick or a pick-up and delivery to a local feeding agency! We are fully insured and provide a tax receipt. If you are interested in donating fruit, please sign up here If you are interested in volunteering, please visit our calendar. Or, you can donate here.
