120 Woodward Avenue 760-839-4535 Tiny Tots Preschool prepares your little one for kindergarten by encouraging exploration, academic development, and positive social interaction. Designed with learning in mind, the curriculum is based on California Common Core Standards. Children often learn through play, therefore classroom activities include a variety of music, creative movement, art, science, social interaction, cultural awareness, language, math, pre-writing, pre-reading, field trips, and dramatic play. Little Tots and Super Tots are continuous, yearlong programs that are divided into monthly classes for ease of payment. Therefore, participants are enrolled for the duration of the 2021/2022 school year provided they maintain their eligibility.

Join us for Summer Tots camp taught by our legendary preschool teachers with an emphasis on play, socialization, and learning. In this more relaxed program, there is a greater emphasis on creative expression, outdoor exploratory experiences, and theme-based activities such as nature, animals, and water. This camp includes a wide variety of activities like arts and craft projects, games, music/dramatic play, as well as a variety of sensory and skill building activities. In these 40 minute classes we emphasize on water adjustment, swimming readiness, & enjoyment in the water. Parent or guardian (16 years or older) required, one child to one guardian ratio. Diaper wearing children must wear a swim diaper or vinyl swim pants. Diapers are sold at the pool for $3.

This class is for preschool aged children (ages 3 & 4) to promote water exploration and comfort in water. Skills include water entry and exit, breath control, and supported glides and floats.

Level 1 is for children with little to no swimming experience. The focus of this class is to move comfortably in the water, fully submerge the face and supported front and back kicking and floating.

Level 5 focuses on stroke coordination and refinement of all strokes for increased distances. Advanced techniques are introduced. Participants must be able to swim front and back crawl 25 yards and breaststroke 15 yards to participate.

Level 4 focuses on stroke improvement, distances in front and back crawl, as well as introduction of additional strokes. Participants must be able to swim front and back crawl for 15 yards independently to participate.

Level 3 is designed to promote stroke development and guided practice in deep water. Skills include rotary breathing, front crawl, elementary backstroke and introduction to diving. Participants must have successfully passed the Dolphin level or be able to swim 5 yards independently.

Level 2 focuses on fundamental skills ranging from breath control, unassisted floats and glides, to elementary coordination of the front crawl.

Escondido Skate Park In preparation to keep you safe, each session we will have a limited number of participants. To help ensure more of the community can enjoy the skate park, each person is limited to one reservation per day. Reservations are suggested, call ahead to reserve your spot!

The Community Services Department is excited to introduce Roller Skating at the Escondido Sports Center in Kit Carson Park! Bring your skates and your family for a fun and safe outdoor recreational opportunity. Under the current public health order, sessions are limited in order maintain social distancing at all times. Please come with your skates (required) and safety equipment (optional) as we do not have any rentals. Whether you are an expert or a first timer, there’s plenty of space to practice while grooving to some music.

Learn to roller skate from the champions! Join us on the HUGE skating rink at the Escondido Sports Center in Kit Carson Park. Skills for the beginner, novice, and intermediate skaters with safety instruction at all levels. Introductory lessons begin with balance, posture, forward skating, and stopping. Novice skating will have you gliding from foot to foot. Keep learning through backward and trick skating. Skates and protective gear are not provided. Each month the Park Avenue Community Center publishes a newsletter. Recently, members of the senior community were asked to complete a survey for input on a new newsletter name and types of information they would like to recieve. After counting the votes, the newsletter is now named, PARK AVENUE POST. Also added is a table of contents to distinguish the different sections that make up the newsletter. With the change of season we have brought you a change of scenery! Welcome to the new look of the Escondido Senior Centers’ monthly newsletter. Not only has our look changed, we also have a new name that was voted on, and chosen by our senior community! The Park Avenue Post sounds like a throwback to days gone by when we all had a chance to enjoy our morning with a daily newspaper, and that is what has inspired the new look of our newsletter. Spring has sprung and we are all getting into the mood for a little spring cleaning. This is a wonderful opportunity for each of us to enjoy the spring weather and everything that comes with the changing season: birdwatching, taking a walk around your neighborhood or local parks, gardening, and just plain enjoying our great climate here in Escondido. Join us in welcoming our newest addition to our team here at the Park Avenue Community Center. Fernando Suarez del Solar is the new Senior Service Aid II. Fernando is a father of 4 and grandfather of 3. Fernando lives his life with a passion for activism and helping his fellow human being. He has traveled not only across the U.S. but internationally to share a message of brotherhood and encouraging people to take the path of non-violence and peace. Fernando plays the piano, violin, and the guitar. He enjoys many types of music including Classical, and Ranchera. Fernando looks forward to the “Fun Times” he will have with both our seniors and the staff here at the Park Avenue Community Center. Welcome to the PACC family Fernando! 1

San Dieguito River Park The San Dieguito River Park is more than 65 miles of trails of every level open year-round for day use free of charge. Trails are open to hikers, bikers, and equestrians. Our backbone multi-use trail – the Coast to Crest Trail – extends from the ocean at Del Mar to the San Dieguito River’s source on Volcan Mountain near Julian with multiple trailheads in the City of Escondido. Within the River Park, just south of the Westfield North County Mall, is the Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead. The Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead is a State Point of Historic Interest. Established around 1870, the Farmstead is a remarkable reminder of San Diego’s rural history. Through tours, field trips and events you can learn what life was like for the Sikes family in San Diego shortly after statehood.

Every Sunday, Sikes hosts the North San Diego Certified Farmers Market open to the public for free from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Produce grown by volunteers at the Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead is available for purchase at the Farmers Market.
