RENEWED HOPES FOR A NEW YEAR A new beginning is always exciting and full of possibilities. As we enter a new year at Escola Concept, we cannot help but look back and reflect on the experiences we shared and the lessons we learned, and challenge ourselves to think about how we can apply all of it to create a better tomorrow. In 2020, we harnessed our potentials and discovered that together we could achieve much more! Now, it's time to get all that strength and add a bit of kindness to find out how we can impact our community in 2021.

L AI R O TI D E This year, the change starts with you. We invite you to take action and commit yourself to impact our school, the community, or even your own home. Our learners and families will have the opportunity to engage in different proposals throughout the academic year. They were thought to spread kindness outside the school walls. Small gestures can inspire great changes, and that transformative mindset is what we want to cultivate with our learners. The uncertainties of the last months showed us how innovative and adaptable we can be and how resourceful we are when we have a common goal. We couldn't be more grateful for the strong partnership developed with our families. We are also thrilled to welcome the many new families to our community. It is time to start another inspiring chapter at Escola Concept and we count on you to keep this community of lifelong learners alive.

THE THEME OF THE YEAR

In 2021, let's think about our expectations! LUCIANA POLONEN - Head of Service Design

Shel Silverstein has created a moving parable for readers of all ages that offers an affectionate interpretation of the gift of giving and a serene acceptance of another's capacity to love in return. We chose this book as inspiration for this year at the end of 2020, when we could look back and understand how the pandemic had transformed our plans, hopes, and dreams, teaching us to deal with uncertainties and harness the potential with existing resources.

we ask too much or too little, what we do to achieve it, and how we behave in the most diverse relations of exchange and coexistence. Are we persisting? Do we understand when we can't get what we want? Do we put ourselves in others' shoes?

We invite families to join us in this new adventure, in which we will think about the impact that our learners' projects can have in the communities, from their class, family, school, neighborhood, city, country, or, who knows, the world?!

Now we are inspired by the work of Shel Silverstein with a delicate message on expectations, whether

OUR MESSAGE TO YOU

WE STARTED THE YEAR WITH A FEELING OF RENEWAL AND HOPE. HOW ABOUT YOU? Read below some testimonials about the expectations of some of our learners, families and educators in our community for the year 2021.

intensity and lightness using the strength we developed last year.

What I plan to offer in 2021:

Pâmela Poch, educator Escola Concept Ribeirão Preto

What I hope for 2021: I hope that in 2021 we will be able to harvest the good fruits of all the dedication and affection that we planted in 2020. Without demagogy, but, like my colleagues educators, I dedicated myself even more to my learners and their families in 2020. Just as I became more attentive to my husband, my family and myself. It seems that everyone's senses were much sharper under the mask and I believe that this year we will have the opportunity to experience what really matters to each of us, with more

I intend to offer smiling, bright and sincere eyes. Eyes that see beyond and focus on the positive, but also learn from the negative, when and if there is, with less judgment and more growth.I intend to offer serenity and euphoria to the extent. As well as empathy, always with our feet on the ground so as not to allow alienation, sometimes so comfortable, to get us off track and weaken our struggle for improvement.

What I want to learn in 2021: I want to learn Spanish and develop the habit of exercising. I also want to learn Yoga. I believe that I want to learn to take better care of myself so that I can do better for those I love, for whom I work and learn. I want to continue learning with my learners, their families and my co-workers.

spotlight - january 2021 | 11

What I plan to offer in 2021: Curiosity, my desire to learn, my desire to teach others and to share my learning.

What I want to learn in 2021:

Manuela Macedo Lerner, Grade 6 Learner

Escola Concept RibeirĂŁo Preto

What I hope for 2021: I hope that I am very healthy, many good things, and that COVID 19 will end, that I too can go to school to meet my friends normally.

I would like to learn new languages and also learn more about the history of the ancient people, and how they fought diseases and made vaccines. I was curious, if they were on COVID 19, how would they fight the disease, once they didn't have the same technology as we have now?

What I hope for 2021: May it be a light year, with health, much hope and many meetings.

What I plan to offer in 2021: Time, attention and optimism.

What I want to learn in 2021: I want to develop myself to be more mindful and patient.

Tatiana Goulart de Andrade de Macedo Concept family - RibeirĂŁo Preto

What I hope for 2021: Let the virus go away, the school comes back and people always have the love inside them.

What I plan to offer in 2021: The power of friendship, love and better care for people and the planet.

What I want to learn in 2021:

Luca Abenhaim de Souza Grade 1 learner Escola Concept Salvador

Learn about movies (how to create, produce and show), science and control my emotions.

What I plan to offer in 2021: Contribute more to the community in which we operate, further develop the sense of collectivity to act with collaboration and unity in resolving problems and supporting technological innovation to meet current demands.

DĂŠbora Abenhaim Concept family - Salvador

What I hope for 2021: As in 2021 we are still living in the pandemic, it is living with the harsh reality: life has not returned to normal, not will it return to normal. Our goal then is to lead the best possible life in the face of the new scenario. The vaccine is a great hope, but it is only one of the necessary steps in the face of a highly complex reality.

What I want to learn in 2021: Learn to live in the present without so much anxiety about the future, establish a healthier routine, including physical activity and develop mindfulness.

spotlight - january 2021 | 13

What I hope for 2021: I hope that I can see my friends in person and that the pandemic will end soon ... I also hope that I can be less ashamed when speaking in public and that I can get a better idea of what profession I want to do.

Bella Dias Grade 10 learner

Escola Concept Salvador

What I want to learn in 2021: I want to improve in the languages I am studying and I want to learn new things and delve into things I already know.

What I plan to offer in 2021: I intend to do my best in everything I do, no matter how much I like what I am doing.

What I hope for 2021: I hope we are all vaccinated.

What I hope for 2021: A year of peace and socialization for children. May education be prioritized again and that they can be safe in a healthy environment of learning, socialization and a lot of happiness, as every child deserves.

Support my children and the entire school community that will welcome them to recover that time of distance that we had to live last year. All help for a new adaptation at school and home care so that they understand the importance of this new moment in their lives.

What I want to learn in 2021: Being physically and emotionally present in my children's education and learning. Knowing how to get involved in this very important area of their lives, respecting the individuality of each of the 3 and the necessary space they need to grow independent and healthy.

What I hope for 2021: Hope that 2021 will be a more peaceful and happy year, that we will be able to overcome the difficulties that arose in 2020, and that we will be able to use what we learned to make the way we go forward easier.

We were physically separated, but very connected, by digital and also by thoughts and intentions. So I keep thinking that, for 2021, I want to maintain that sense of unity, no matter what happens.

Felippe Moraes educator Escola Concept SĂŁo Paulo

On my Instagram, I have posted content to teach people to meditate, joining my previous experience with theater, Olympic gymnastics and mentoring for professionals who want to speak better in public.

What I want to learn in 2021: To better use technology for video editing and planning lessons, enjoying the most of the resources that are available in my notebook and cellphone, for example.

ANALĂ?DIA FERRI, Associate Communications Lead

Escola Concept started 2021 by debuting its vacation program, Summer School, with activities carefully planned to offer moments of fun learning and socialization among students. Our pedagogical team developed creative workshops and experiences in different areas, such as language, mathematics, science, arts and technology, as well as lots of fun with games and handson proposals. 20 | spotlight - january 2021

As in 2020 schools were closed by decree for a long period, the Summer School helped learners to continue to strengthen bonds and learn, while families could follow their routines, with their kids happy and engaged during school vacation. Check out some photos of the best Summer School moments in our schools of RibeirĂŁo Preto, SĂŁo Paulo, and Salvador, where we had online proposals.

One of the reflections we can make from the book The Giving Tree is about the benefits of connecting children with nature. CAMILA ICASSATTI Communications and Marketing Lead Among the various associations made possible by the book The Giving Tree, that inspires the 2021 academic year at Concept, one is with the connection between children and nature and its benefits. This agenda has returned strongly and with urgency since the release of the documentary O comeรงo da vida - Lรก fora, in November 2020. The film is the second chapter of a series that aims to provoke reflections among families, educators, caregivers and public policy makers for children, especially in the range understood as early childhood, from 0 to 6 years old. The impact starts here Challenge and commit yourself through the board with envelopes displayed at school ANALĂ?DIA FERRI, Associate Communications Lead

We hope that you are, as far as possible, hopeful for this new year. We strongly believe in the power of each person to promote real impact in the world. As we reflect on what changes have brought us here and what changes we want to promote in our community in 2021, we would like to share a reflection and a challenge. The reflection came from our theme of the year, the book The giving tree, by Shel Silverstein. To start it, we invite you to take a few minutes and read this story which causes different interpretations between children and adults. According to your background, you may relate the theme to the environment, to love, to the search for happiness, and so on. It will be fun if you could read and reflect on this story together as a family. Then, think about ways that you could cause a positive impact on others' lives and share with us through the Impact Wall. The Experience Design & Communications team will select some of these ideas to put into practice with our community. Learners will also engage with the proposal during class. 26 | spotlight - january 2021

How does the Giving and Getting Impact Wall work? Inspired by the book The Giving Tree, reflect: how can you positively impact other people's lives? Define who these people are: what do they need? Do they belong to our community or not? Define the objective and think about what you need to make your idea happen. Your proposal must be viable, keeping in mind that who will work on it is a group of children, using the resources and people from our school community. Write and / or draw a picture on paper to symbolize that idea. Write down your family or class name on paper. Bring the paper to school, to be placed in one of the envelopes by the end of February! We will select some ideas and give them to a group of students to be responsible for putting them into practice. spotlight - january 2021 | 27
