The Court Cotillion, sponsored annually by the m embers of the Freshman class, was held on April 30, 1949, in the Great H all with music furnished by T ed J ohnson and his orchestra.

The Grand March, in which all members of the class participated, was the climax of an eventful evening. The March was led by Miss Ann Foran, who was queen of the dance, and her escort, Mr. Paul A. Callahan. Following in line were Miss Sarah Ann Conaty, general chairman of the dance, and her escort, Mr. Jam es P. Thorpe.

Preceding the Grand March, Miss Co naty crowned the queen with a wreath of white sweet peas m arked with fern. The members of the Queen's Court were: Misses Patricia Monah an, Mary Frances O 'Hare, Patricia Fox, Barbara Storey, Ann Logan, Marybeth Coleman, Ann Heaney, and Mary D onova n.

On Sunday morning, R ev. Fr. Dillon celebrated Mass in the college chapel at ten a. m. , follow ed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and a luncheon in the cafeteria for the girls and their escor ts.

Miss M ary Sullivan of Dedham, Massachusetts, Sophomore in the field of ed ucation , was crow ned queen of "Moonlight Masque" by her escort, Edward Reilly of H oly Cross College. The dance was held in the Great H all on the evening of May 14, and was the first of the annual Sophomore spring formals. Music for the evening was prov id ed by the orchestra of Stan Moore, who selected Miss Sullivan to reign for the festivities .

The setting of the dance carried out the theme of "Moonlight Masque" th rough spot-light moons, dancing on the front stone terrace, and a ce nter-piece of flowers in the dining-room depicting a crescen t moon and a mask.

The queen was crowned with white sweet-peas on a platform planked with palms and set with two gold chairs for her and her escort, immediately after the an nouncement made by Frances Bridgema n, Co-Chairman of the dance.

of f):) 'ramatic cl?t:adin91Rewrning from our Easter vacation we were entertained by Miss Mary Louise H ickey's presentation of Drmnas Fro m the Lives of Three Queens. H er performance included Victorirt Regina and Maxwell Anderson's plays of Mary Stuart and Queen Elizabeth.

These three selections of dramatic monologue chosen from Miss Hickey's large repertoire proved valuable both as entertainment and as instruction. Through her vivid interpretation we glimpsed scenes from the private lives of these regents. To the great surprise of many, we discovered that their romances were integrally connected with the political life of their realm. Miss H ickey's characterizations are so exact that her own person is completely obscured as we see in her the living portraits of Mary, Victoria, or Elizabeth.

It's unusual here at Salve Regina, for either faculty or students to overlook the signing of the Guest Register when our college is visited by an outstanding writer and lecturer, or any person of importance. But such was the case on Friday, May 6. We sincerely regret it.

For on that evening, Robert W. Keyserlingk, editor ofThe Ensign, the weeki y Catholic newsheet of all Canada, toured our "opulent" building. (I say "opulent" in quotation marks, as Mr. Keyserlingk described S.R.C. thus, following this statement with-"It is the only word to describe Ochre Court.") H e was visiting Rhode Island in order to speak at the Rhode Island Intercollegiate Press Association Convention. One of our students had invited him, and Mr. Keyserlingk, though busy with the manifold tasks confronting an editor, had graciously accepted.

Until we met "Mr. K.", he was just another wellknown name in the headlines, but now we feel toward him as one does toward a very old friend. "He came, he saw, he conquered" might well encompass his short visit, but in the very nicest of its varied meanings. We feel that our readers, both at the college and outside, would like to know more abour him.

The son of a count who was an officer in the Imperial Russian Navy, Mr. Keyserlingk was born in St. Petersburg at the close of the reign of the czars. After fleeing the revolution with his family, he went to grammar school in Japan, receiving his college education in British Columbia and Zurich. Newspaper work was his "meat", and Mr. Keyserlingk joined the British United Press in 1930, seeing years of service thereafter in six or seven European capitals. He has spent the last ten years in Canada, managing director of B.U.P., one of this continent's ablest newsmen.

In 194 5 Mr. Keyserl ingk decided tO cover another beat. After being received into the Catholic Church, he left for Rome to visit Pope Pius XII whom he had known as Monsignor Pacelli in Berlin. He returned to Canada convinced that Christian, Catholic action was necessary tO combat Communism. He was associated with the Palm Publishers Press Service, along these lines. Shakespeare's immortal tragedy, H amlet, has been made into a m ov ie that is, in its own right, a classic. The success of this remarkable film production must be credited (_J-)7.ouLcf:~.JlCE in a great part to the skill of Laurence Olivier who not only pl ayed the lead in the photoplay but also directed it.

Which brings us up to t he present time and his visit to o ur college. We hope th at though we neglected to ob tain his sig nature on this R . I. stay, it won 't be the last.

C.~. d-/ofd1 cRDJionaf dlllEEtin9 in !Bo1.ton At the recent N ew England Congress of the N ational Federation of Catholi c College Students held in Boston during the weekend of April 29, 30 , and M ay 1, several m atters of regional policy were discussed prior to the natio nal cong ress which convened later in the week in Chicago. The three-d ay affair opened in the Bradford Ball room with a joint m ee ting of the N ewm an Club Federation and the N .F.C.C.S. , at which tim e an address was g iven by the M ost Reverend Richard ]. Cushing, D.D., Arch bishop of Boston.

Archbishop Cushing, in stressing the need for a return of Christ to the community and to the cam pus, the need for a redefinitio n of the dig nity of m an and of the sublime dig nity of poverty, c·ffered a positive plan of acti vity for carrying out the theme of the cong ress which was : The R esponsibilities of the Catholic College Student in the Student Community. His keynote talk was well received by the delegates and observers w ho, after hearing a symposium offered by student speakers from the Newman Club Federati on, N .F.C.C.S. , and the J oint Committee for Student A ction D esk in Boston, prep ared for the weekend of panel discussions, workgroup meetings, and plenary sesstons.

On Saturd ay, panels were presented by va rious colleges within the regio n, with P atricia Byrne, Ed itor-inChief of Ebb Tide, conducting the afternoon session of the Publicity Panel. Th roug hout the day, m ee tings were held to cond ense regional opinion on such m atters as the Student Relief Campaig n run so successfully this year under N.F.C.C.S., the possibility of splitting N ew England into two separate regions- north and south , the advisability of petitioning the national offi ce for the purpose of having the national congresses during the summer.

It was generall y agreed upo n that N ew England would continue the Student Relief Campaign, if sanctio ned by national headquarters; this would be conducted on a less aggressive basis for the coming year. The delegates vo ted to rem ain as one united region, and it was decided th at the delegates to the national cong ress sho uld submit a resolutio n concerning the holding of the subsequent cong resses 111 summ er.
