In recognition o f this honor, the Sister Studenrs of Salve Reg, na College presenred a short program to the M other Provincial o n her recenr offic ial visit here. The program was highlighted by a stirring tribute to Mother Mary Hilda, in which her o utstanding ac hievemenrs in the many fields under her inspiring influence and cap able direction were lauded . Musical selections a nd parodies descriptive of the college l ife o f the Sisters added a whimsical note.

Providence College, lectured tO the Studenrs of Salve R egina on the inspiring topic T homas M e1·ton and His Poetry. Mr. Van Thomson chose for careful a na lys is and descriptive commenr M enon's latest volume T eal'S of the Blind Lions. Th.~ lecturer ind icared that Merton's. cosm o po l iran background fitted him admirably fo r the task o f exami ning in poetic lig ht problems arising from the d ifficulries o f inrernational society, from the discovery of new sc ientifi c knowledge a nd irs res ul ta nt effect o n relig ious fa ith. Thomas M erton 's poetry, as interpreted by Mr. Van Thomso n, reveals a n im age ry filled with delight in the wonder a nd co lor of the natural o rder. His is a strong, un adorned diction which discloses with virile simplicity the core o f his poetrythe joy and happiness of loving God. In the poetry issuing from his Trappis t m o nastery it is amply evident th at the bas ic foundation o f Merton 's rhoug hr and technique is found in the Sacrifice of the M ass a nd the Divine Office- the endless, rim eless source of his spiritual refreshment.

LIBRARY STUDENTS INTERVIEW FALL RIVER BOOKMOBILE AGENT In connec ti o n with the new Library Course offer ed this year. two members o f the group intervi e w e d Miss D o rothy Keith , reg ional I ibrari an of the Fall Riv er Area regardin g the project of the bookmobile service in whi ch she specializes. The students were interes ted in the manner in which this library-on-wheels is operated. Miss Keith explained that the b ookmobile operated on a fiv e-wee k schedule, supp lying boo ks to schools, ho mes, rest ho mes, and deposi t stat ions in the Fall Ri ver area. Miss Keith further described the procedure foll owed at each stop. Upon arrival, the clerk opens the side o f the conveyance revealing open counters. A sma ll ladder is placed in the rear of t he truck to facilitate reac hing books fr om the inside shelves, o n whi ch t hey are arranged and graded fo r children and adu lts. Whe n opened, the la rge back door displ ays an attractive bulletin boa rd. This unit is a model of near, compacr efficiency.
