Tattoo Art Workshop

DETAILS About the Session In the past people might have considered tattoos fringe, or even taboo, but in recent decades tattoos have become mainstream and even chic! This workshop will teach you to create tattoo art from scratch so you can draw out your own designs for your next (or first) tattoo! All levels are welcome here; this is not just a class for tattoo artists, but anyone curious about the intricacies and subtleties that define this unique art form. As a non-digital class, this is your chance to put away your tablets and styluses and pick up a pen and paper again! Our host will demonstrate how to put an idea on paper and style it in a tattoo-friendly manner. You’ll create a design or image that will work not only for any future tattoos but also for a wall hanging or framed decoration! Come take this workshop for the chance to learn why once you design your first tattoo, you won’t want to stop at one!

About your host: Mario An illustrator specializing in traditional and digital techniques, Mario has been teaching illustration with emphasis on tattoo design at the Academy of Art University since 2016. For over 20 years, Mario has been a professional tattoo artist and is the owner of Moth & Dagger Tattoo Studio in San Francisco, California. In addition to tattooing, designing, and teaching, Mario is the Art Director for the Nighttime Show, produced and hosted by actor and comedian Stephen Kramer Glickman.

DETAILS ABOUT THE SESSION Learn an art form that dates back centuries, long before factory-made art was a gleam in anyone’s eye. Today we’re studying the ancient craft of wood burning. Although you might be picturing oldfashioned patterns and images of battles or coats of arms, wood burning is a great medium for contemporary designs and images as well!

Our host will show you how to use a wood burning tool to draw out your designs on small pieces of wood first, before putting your wood burning skills to the test on your final design. Who knew how much beauty can come from a simple piece of wood and some heat?!

Justin Ward

ABOUT: Justin Ward has gained notoriety with his street performances throughout the world and his covers on YouTube that are soulful and “too sexy to handle,” often leaving audiences transfixed, viewers “falling in love,” and the comment section poppin’ off.

Justin’s passion for music started at the young age of four while playing the piano and violin. He later picked up the sax and would practice for hours in his bedroom, sometimes even expanding his performances to the bathroom. Though he drove his mom and everyone in the house crazy using their suburban Chicago home as his personal stage, he attributes his hard work and drive to his single mom and his modest upbringing. Justin went on to study at DePaul University’s School of Music before moving to Santa Barbara with no real plan...just a love of music, living in his Jeep with fifty bucks and a dusty sax. To overcome his fear of performing, Justin began playing on the streets and quickly made a name for himself. He eventually found his way to San Francisco, where he’s currently based. From hair flips to big tips, people know him. You could say he’s kind of a big deal. Dude's got over 50 million views on YouTube.

ABOUT: Matt Bolton is a modern day one-man-band show using loops created live-on-the-spot and other technology to bring a contemporary pop, classic rock, or roots-rock vibe to your soirée. With hints of retro electronic, rock, reggae, and funk, he combines guitar, drums, bass sounds, keyboards, synth, harmonica, mic, and live vocals to create a full band sound that gets crowds of all sizes up and dancing. Matt picks from a seemingly endless collection of covers and originals to create an unforgettable live performance that shows off his ingenuity. His unique looping style magically reproduces the feel and energy of a complete band with no pre-recorded tracks. Matt's résumé includes touring bands with legendary musicians like Todd Rundgren, Jesse Colin Young, and Bill Kreutzmann (Grateful Dead). Featuring Tim Marconett on guitar, Daniel Erik on bass and Patrick Shields on percussion, the band blends Brett's distinct songwriting with an eclectic groove that captivates audiences and gets everyone on their feet.

ABOUT: Luminescent Grand is the world's first fully interactive, LED synesthetic piano. Created by William Cenoté, this instrument recreates the sensation of synesthesia while being played.

Synesthesia is a neurological condition where one of the body’s senses being stimulated can then trigger one or more other senses. While rare, this phenomenon is often experienced by seeing colors when hearing sound. Each note seems to "light up" with its own color, creating a harmonic relationship between sound and light. ABOUT P HARRELL WINES: Paula Harrell credits her parents - her mother, an immigrant from Panama and her father, an Oklahomaborn American military veteran - for instilling the entrepreneurial spirit in her and her four siblings. As she watched her parents build a thriving residential care facility business in San Francisco in the late 1960s, Paula became inspired to start a business of her own. While pursuing her BA at UCLA, Paula studied abroad in Madrid, Spain, which sparked her passion for wine.

Sound Meditation Presents is dedicated to helping people all over the globe discover the tools and benefits of sound meditation. This impact-driven project was founded in 2016 by Guy Douglas, AKA "The Gong Guy," and Simona Asinovski in 2016. They then grew into "The Sound Healing Symphony", a collection of the West Coast's best meditative musicians (some of which are featured below).
