Club Updates

James Paige | VP of Club Operations

We appreciate all the Members who participated in great February programming. We hosted Valentine’s Dinners, music at Elements, a Member Mixer, a Super Bowl party, Cookie Decorating, a Junior Winter Golf Series, and our first Jazz Ball I would like to thank our entire Kingsmill team for putting together a great calendar of events and executing them proudly.

Did you know? Our recreational outlets (Golf, Tennis, Spa, Marina, Fitness, and Pools) have approximately 165 employees in peak season Our team is starting to gear up and get ready for spring break and the summer season to follow. Referral rewards are given to anyone who brings an employee on board!

March is a great time of year around The Club as the weather starts to warm up and we prepare for the summer season. Our team is ready to launch our Junior Golf Camp Programming (linked here) and our Kingsmill Resort Summer Camp (details here) If you need storage space for your boat or vehicle, please reach out to John Schuman, Marina Manager (john.schuman@kingsmill.com), as some spots have become available. We are excited about other programming this month, including live music at Elements, March Member Mixer, St Patrick’s Day Celebration, and The Woods Course Spring Opening Be on the lookout for further communication and details! We hope you are able to relax and enjoy the programming at The Club with your friends and families.

Agronomy Update

Jimmy Gabel | Director of Agronomy

Spring is in the air! Our Agronomy team has been hard at work this winter plugging away at projects to better improve the property. Over the month of February, we have been applying our preemergent herbicides Fortunately, the weather has been very cooperative and we have applied approximately 250 acres of product thus far These herbicides have both post and pre-emergent control and will allow us to clean the golf courses of any winter annual weeds and will continue to keep the courses clean of any weeds as we enter into the golfing season

Richmond Irrigation has been on property for the past month helping us get some of our more pressing irrigation issues taken care of. When completed, 25 essential valves will have been repaired across all three courses

We have been limbing trees around the property. This will allow for healthier turf under the tree canopies as well as improve lines of sight for golfers We have also been working to remove the dead trees across the property

We have laid new sod on our nursery green. Having a brand new nursery green entering the season is a huge win for the golf courses. This will allow us to have quality sod to pull from in the event that we need to do so over the course of the season

Thank You for your continued support!

Jimmy Gabel

Thank you for being a Member, we look forward to seeing you around The Club

GOLF SHOPGOLF RULES & TIPS

John Todd Gantt | Head Golf Professional, River Course

Bunker Play

Greenside bunkers can be a challenging shot to execute for any player and can add a lot of strokes to your game, if not properly executed. Every golfer has been there where we take too much sand and the ball stays in the bunker, or we take too little sand and fly it over the green 10 yards Here’s the best way to execute the greenside bunker shot:

Setup:

Play the ball off the inside of your front foot. Place 60% of your weight on the front foot. Slightly open the clubface to your target

Aim slightly left of the target (right handed Golfer) to compensate for an open club face at address

Swinging Method:

Pick a spot a couple inches behind the ball to strike. Keep your speed up on the downswing and splash the sand

Always follow through on the shot
