Our skin can get a little sensitive during summers. With excess heat and humidity, skin tends to become greasy and oily which later on becomes a key problem for skin issues. It's time to put away your winter jackets and alter your skincare regimen for the summer when the sun begins to shine brighter and the temperature rises. It's essential to protect your skin from the damaging effects of the sun and keep it healthy and radiant throughout the summer because of the longer days and increased time spent outdoors. Let's explore the world of summer skincare and learn how to keep your skin looking its best in the next hot months, from light moisturisers to cooling mists.

Sunscreen

An essential item during the summer is sunscreen. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Before venturing outside, liberally apply it to all exposed skin and reapply every two hours.

Lightweight Moisturiser

Avoid using heavy lotions in the summer because they can clog your pores and leave you feeling oily. Look for a nongreasy, light moisturiser that won't weigh down your skin and will hydrate it.

Face Mist

On a scorching summer day, a cooling face mist can keep you cool. To calm and moisturise your skin, look for a mist that has components like aloe vera, cucumber, and green tea.

Lip balm with SPF

Your lips also require sun protection. Search for a lip balm with SPF and moisturising components like shea butter or coconut oil is what you should seek out.

Body Lotion

Use a thin body lotion to keep your skin moisturised and supple. Look for a recipe that has components that can help retain moisture, such as hyaluronic acid or glycerin.

After- Sun Care

To calm and restore your skin if you spend a lot of time outside, you may require some after-sun care items. Look for a calming lotion with chamomile or lavender in it, or aloe vera gel.

Remember to drink lots of water to stay hydrated and to find shade during the hottest times of the day.

What usually happens with our skin during summers?

An increase in temperatures during the summer months, combined with humidity and heat, can increase the activity of the sebaceous glands. This makes oily skin appear oilier and dry skin appear rough and patchy. The intensity of the sun's rays also causes tanning by producing more melanin pigments. Most commonly seen conditions in summer:

Acne breakouts: When sweat mixes with bacteria and oils on your skin, it can clog your pores and cause breakouts.

Dry, irritated skin: Due to the outdoor air being hot and humid, you can have dry, irritated skin. The biggest culprits are spending time in the sun, pool, and air conditioning.

Folliculitis: Infection of hair follicles

Melasma: Brown patches on cheeks and the bridge of the nose, exacerbated by sun exposure

Prickly heat (or heat rash): Blocked sweat glands cause this. Sweat builds up under your skin, causing tiny, itchy bumps.

Sun allergy: You can develop hives (an allergic skin reaction).

Sunburn: skin burn resulting from too much exposure to sunlight

Is it good to exfoliate during summers?

Yes, Due to higher temperatures in summer, your skin can be more prone to breakouts or clogged pores. Exfoliating regularly can help get rid of dead skin cells, sweat and dirt that could potentially clog your pores.

What are some precautions to take to avoid tan?

The best way to prevent tanning is by avoiding the sun altogether. Avoid the peak UV hours, usually between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Choose a sunscreen that has an SPF of 30 or higher, is water-resistant, and provides broad-spectrum coverage, which means it protects you from UVA and UVB rays. Non-oily and non-sticky sunscreens are recommended for summer.

To remain protected when outdoors, reapply sunscreen every two hours or immediately after swimming or sweating.

Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses with UV protection. Light-coloured clothes are preferred in the summer as they reflect most of the heat that falls on them.

Do wash your face every morning, evening, and after exercise.

Do use a gentle, foaming face wash.

A calming, chemical-free toner helps nourish and soothe the skin in the summer.

Hydrating, oil-free moisturisers are better for summer.

Do not sleep with your makeup on.

Mist Sprays: Sweating during the summer can make your face feel greasy. Keep a cool facial mist on hand to remain cool during the oppressive heat of the season.

Products for summer skin care?

Cleanser: A gel-based cleanser is perfect for summer because it removes excess debris and oil while still moisturising your skin.

Toner: Chemical-Free Toner has anti-inflammatory properties that help soothe irritated skin.

Moisturiser: A water-based light moisturiser that is non-comedogenic is preferred. It is also critical to use an SPF moisturiser to safeguard your skin from the sun's harmful UV rays.

Sunscreen: A broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 is recommended for everyday use. Try using a sunscreen that is non-greasy and lightweight, making it ideal for daily use. To ensure optimal protection, continue to reapply your sunscreen every two hours.

Healthy skin can be achieved in summer by eating right, staying hydrated and using the right skin care regimen. Heat cannot be avoided in the summer, but your skin can be protected from its effects by taking good care of it.

Summer can get a little tricky. It is obvious that with every changing season, our skin tries to adapt to the new climate, resulting in drastic changes in the texture, feel, and healthiness of our skin. Some of my go-to products for summer are vitamin C serum and sunscreen. My preferred brands for these products would be the Aqualogica sunscreen and the minimalist vitamin C serum.

There’s usually a stigma with men using skincare, but if you ask me, it's just skin, and there's no harm if you're willing to be a little careful with it. I do not usually prefer many products for a routine; I believe that the product you use must be effective. My goto, irrespective of seasonal change, is sunscreen. I don't think people realise how much of a difference a good sunscreen can make. If there's one product I swear by, it's sunscreen.

Chapped lips can be a real problem during the summer. With excess heat and constant dehydration, there is a possibility of having dry and chapped lips. A good moisturising lip balm with SPF should be a go for everyone, along with sunscreen. I usually rely on these two products to protect my skin and lips. Also, drink lots of water to stay hydrated.

With acne-prone skin, it is really important to be cautious about what we eat and what we use on our skin. It can get a little complicated trying to maintain your skin, especially in the summer due to the heat, pollution, and greasyness. For me, a good facewash and a light moisturiser are a must. I do not complicate my skin care routine because my acne might react. I keep it simple, using the minimum amount of products that actually work for my skin.

Summer definitely changed my skin. With the arrival of summer and staying in a happening city, the humidity and pollution take your skin for a ride. I usually use a good facewash for oily skin and an exfoliator to unclog my pores. A sunscreen is mandatory for me, along with a face mist, to keep my skin calm and prevent burning. Usually at night, I apply some aloe vera gel to my face to protect it from the harsh sun all day long.
