Making a conscious decision to return to India from Australia, I recognised the pressing need to bridge the gap in nutrition care. Specializing in women's health and IBS, I assist clients dealing with PCOS, endometriosis, fertility issues, thyroid imbalances, and weight management challenges. My philosophy revolves around sustainable lifestyle changes, empowering clients to achieve lasting transformations. I've witnessed firsthand the power of guiding individuals beyond quick fixes towards enduring success and well-being. with a firm belief in bringing internationally recognized nutrition guidelines to India, I am dedicated to making a meaningful impact on the health and wellness landscape

What is a normal routine day like in your life?

Every morning, I start with a 60-90-minute workout, blending cardio, strength training, and HIIT. Afterwards, I enjoy a nourishing brunch before heading to my clinic. With clinics spread across Hyderabad, my days involve a lot of driving. Despite the hustle, I make time for creativity, writing blogs or creating social media content. By 8 pm, I'm back home, unwinding with loved ones. Evenings are for quality time with pets, brainstorming business ideas, or catching up with friends. And to de-stress, I love strolling through grocery store aisles. I keep my energy up with fruity snacks, coffee, and plenty of water. By 11 pm, I aim to hit the hay, ready to tackle whatever tomorrow brings.

What made you want to pursue dietetics and specialize in women’s health & fertility?

My journey into studying fertility and women's nutrition began with a pivotal moment – a diagnosis of PCOS in 8th grade. The experience shook me; my gynaecologist's blunt prescription to "lose weight, you're too fat" sparked a curiosity about nutrition's role in health. At 14, I resolved to become a dietitian, drawn to the profession's empathy and potential impact. Fast forward a decade, the COVID-19 lockdown stranded me in India as Australia closed borders. Witnessing the underutilization of dietitians in hospitals made me rethink my career's direction. Exploring health tech and femtech startups during this time shed light on women's struggles with sustainable lifestyle changes. During these times, I realized that women often prioritize others' health over their own, perpetuating yo-yo dieting cycles.

Additionally, working at Revive Fertility Clinics with some empathetic and passionate health professionals fueled my interest in working with couples experiencing fertility issues. It was incredibly rewarding to guide couples through their conception journey, support them through pregnancy, and witness the joy of welcoming their little bundles of joy into the world. Recognizing women's societal pressure to prioritize looking "thin and skinny" over health, I aim to educate them about their bodies' unique hormonal cycles and the importance of tailored nutrition and lifestyle interventions. With my expertise, I strive to challenge the prevailing quick-fix mindset, advocating for sustainable lifestyle changes that prioritize women's holistic well-being.

What inspires and motivates you?

My inspiration stems from the incredible women and couples who entrust me with their journey towards healthier lifestyles. Witnessing their unwavering dedication and perseverance as they strive for positive change is truly awe-inspiring. It's their relentless commitment, combined with their determination to never give up, that fuels my passion and drives me forward. Their success stories, marked by remarkable transformations and fabulous results, serve as constant reminders of the profound impact we can achieve through focused effort and unwavering resolve. This is what propels me to extend my reach and collaborate with as many fertility centers as possible, even if it means navigating through the chaotic Hyderabad traffic for 60 kilometers every day (which, by the way, I'm already doing!). Behind every success story, there's a support system that deserves recognition. For me, that unwavering support comes from my loving parents and brother. During moments of exhaustion or self-doubt, they stand as pillars of strength, always there to lift me up and reignite my passion. Their encouragement and belief in me are the driving forces behind my journey, and I'm endlessly grateful for their presence in my life.

Women often get blamed for not being able to carry a child and not the man.

What is your say in this?

It's a common misconception that infertility solely rests on women, but it's crucial to understand that both men and women contribute to conception difficulties. About one-third of infertility cases stem from male factors, notably low sperm quality. Addressing male fertility alongside female fertility is paramount to effective treatment and care, highlighting the need for a holistic approach. Blaming women alone perpetuates stigma and neglects the multifaceted nature of infertility. Encouraging couples to undergo comprehensive fertility tests before marriage, rather than relying solely on horoscope matching, promotes informed decision-making. Increasing awareness among women about fertility factors is promising, fostering a shift towards a more inclusive and compassionate approach to fertility care. Ultimately, infertility affects couples regardless of gender, emphasizing the importance of mutual understanding and support in navigating this journey.

What is a women’s health to you?

To me, women's health encompasses a holistic approach to physical, mental, emotional, and nutritional well-being, tailored specifically to the unique needs and experiences of women. It involves addressing a wide range of factors, including reproductive health, hormonal balance, sexual health, nutrition, fitness, mental health, and preventative care. Women's health also involves promoting awareness and access to healthcare services, advocating for reproductive rights, and addressing disparities in healthcare access and treatment. It includes addressing gender-specific health issues such as menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, and conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis.

Nutrition plays a crucial role in women's health, influencing fertility, pregnancy outcomes, hormonal balance, and overall well-being. A balanced diet rich in nutrients is essential for supporting women's health throughout their lives, from adolescence to menopause. Ultimately, women's health is about empowering women to make informed decisions about their bodies and health, promoting self-care and self-advocacy, and ensuring that all women have access to comprehensive and compassionate healthcare.

What’s on your bucket list?

• Embark on a captivating cruise to Antarctica to witness its pristine beauty firsthand.

• Explore all seven continents, immersing myself in diverse cultures and landscapes around the globe.

• Establish an NGO dedicated to providing care and shelter for stray dogs, making a meaningful impact on their lives.

• Experience the thrill of a wildlife safari in the Masai Mara, encountering majestic animals in their natural habitat.

What do you do in your leisure time?

I often escape to my parents' mango farm, Sujatha Gardens, to sow seeds and take leisurely walks amidst nature. Exploring new grocery stores is a favorite pastime, where I love discovering unique products. Additionally, I enjoy trying out new cafes and eateries in the city at least once a week for culinary adventures and relaxation. Spending quality time with loved ones brings me joy, whether it's catching up with friends or cherishing moments with family. However, there are days when I crave solitude, retreating to my room with my fur babies, Netflix, and popcorn for the perfect unwinding and recharging session.

Tell us a funny incident which happened with you.

When I was just six years old, I decided to take on the noble task of making tea for my family for the very first time. Full of excitement and determination, I eagerly set about gathering the necessary ingredients. Little did I know, there was a slight hiccup awaiting me in the kitchen. You see, in our household, the containers for sugar and salt looked remarkably similar, and in my youthful enthusiasm, I ended up mistaking one for the other. Yes, you guessed it—I accidentally used salt instead of sugar!

Despite my innocent blunder, I proudly served the tea to my unsuspecting family. To my surprise, not a single complaint was uttered. They showered me with praise, claiming it was the best tea they had ever tasted. It wasn't until years later that the truth came to light, and I discovered my amusing mistake. Looking back, it's a memory that never fails to bring a smile to my face—a reminder of the innocence and charm of childhood mishaps.

Delicate, romantic, dreamy and subtle – chikankari embroidery designs are undoubtedly a delight. If you don’t already own a chikankari outfit then you’re missing out!

Originating from Lucknow, India and having its roots in the Mughal era, chikankari embroidery is not simply an embroidery technique –rather, it is an ancient art form. Indian fashion designers have found many ways to adapt this technique into their collections, keeping this art-form alive in modern times while also adding their own zest to its traditional techniques.

If spring-summer had a fashion avatar it would probably be a chikankari kurta. The lightweight, delicate — usually floral embroidery — in white thread on a light airy pastel-hued fabric is what summer dreams are made of. As the temperature soars, chic chikans come marching out. While her voluminous skirt featured intricate white embroidery on an everso-sublte pink base, the hero of her outfit had to be that corset-style blouse. Featuring skinny straps, Bhatt’s blouse was embellished all over with delicate pearls and ended with metallic tassels, bringing a playful, contemporary touch to the traditional Lucknowi detailing on her skirt. Her tulle dupatta, which went from soft pink to jade, featured a scalloped border with pearl work too.

Kriti Sanon ’ s limegreen kurta :

The actor’s lime green kurta came with an angrakha-style neckline and threequarter sleeves, and was paired with white flared pants, which made it easy to dance in. But it was the intricate ivory chikankari work on Kriti Sanon’s kurta that really made it pop. If you’ve always reserved your chikankari pieces for weddings and formal occasions, the star’s outfit may just inspire you to incorporate it into your daily wear closet too.

KKK was spotted arriving at the venue of Akash Ambani and Shloka Mehta’s wedding celebrations, in a stunning pastel blue lehenga by one of her favourite designers, Manish Malhotra, with her dupatta wrapped around her shoulders. Her ensemble comprised of a choli featuring mirror work, a lehenga that came with intricate white embroidery, and a sheer dupatta that the actor wrapped around her shoulders.

Recently, Tara Sutaria did timeless chikankari dressing the Gen Z way with a pre-draped silhouette and a sensual blouse with her Faabiiana ensemble. Over the ivory canvas, rose blooms entwine with foliage and architectural influences. “Tara's pre-draped fusion sari is a Banarasi number. The actor was spotted at Mumbai airport in yet another version of the Indian staple: an easy-breezy chikankari kurta set which she matched with a colourful pair of juttis. Inspired by the artists in my family and driven by destiny and my passion for creativity, I embarked on a journey into the world of fashion. Designing clothes became my natural form of expression, a trait ingrained in my genes. My zero waste technique, loosely based on my grandmother's practices from my childhood, involves repurposing and up-cycling everything to create something even better than before.

Can you share any memorable/ funny work related experience?

Sometimes, everything aligns perfectly to create a truly special and memorable day in our lives – a moment that changes our career forever. For me, that day was my debut at Lakme Fashion Week in 2008. I was lucky to have many friends from the South film industry there to support me. The event received a lot of attention from national news channels, with people loving my kalamkari collection and the important guests in the front row. I feel very grateful for that incredible experience.

What’s your favorite thing about the city of Hyderabad?

My favorite thing about the city is that it is not so fast paced and hence lets me explore various things and be creative. I was born and brought up in Hyderabad and my love for the city grows each day. I have had the opportunity to live in many places, but Hyderabad is where my heart belongs.

People always ask what’s the most challenging part of being a doctor and an entrepreneur at the same time and my pursuit to make a great impact in both fields by achieving the best never changes Dermatology is my future and has always been my passion in life and House of Soha on the other hand is my first venture in the beauty industry that will always be growing.

Can you share any memorable work related experience?

Our first milestone came in like Christmas with a lot of cheer and celebration! It was a surreal moment of growth and love as we marked our first anniversary with expansion into the world of skincare.

As a professional makeup artist, my journey into this field began with my love for creativity and artistry. I've always been fascinated by the transformative power of makeup and how it can boost confidence and enhance natural beauty When I knew no one was doing what I wanted to deliver it was a double whammy for me to get into this field!

Can you share any memorable work related incident?

One memorable experience was when I had to do makeup for a bride, my bride accidentally spilled a drink on her dress just minutes before the ceremony. It was a race against time to do her makeup while simultaneously helping her clean up the stain on the dress and calm her nerves. Despite the chaos, we managed to pull it off, and the bride looked stunning and happy, she still thanks me till this day!

What is your favourite thing about the city of Hyderabad?

So my name is Dr. Ahmed Ashfaq. Im an orthodontist by profession and food blogger by passion.

Becoming a food blogger wasn’t really on my list and just happened by chance. My sister pushed me to start taking pictures of food and upload it on instagram. I followed her instructions and started my page

“dr.foodiehyd”. Growth in the initial few months was very sluggish but I kept at it. Once I started reviewing food in a Hyderabadi/dakhani slang is when I actually started to see real growth and my reels went viral.

Can you share any memorable work related incident?

It’s always heartwarming to receive so much love from people of all ages especially when children come up and take selfies with me.

What is your favourite thing about the city of Hyderabad?

Favourite thing about Hyderabad is the food scene over here and the people. And it just keeps getting better!

Tell us something about yourself?

I’m an ex athlete, I represented our state and country on numerous occasions. I was one of the top 5 tennis players in India at one point & secured two silver medals for our state in national games. Then my life took a big U-turn when I found myself prone to injuries that would not allow me to get back on court. I had to take a big break to recover and when I eventually did, I found it difficult to get back to the level I was at. However, I believe that when one door closes, many others open. I always had an interest in the entertainment industry & acting was something I was always fond of. So when the opportunity arised & I was asked to be a part of a leading YouTube channel in Hyderabad called Hyderabad diaries, I took it up instantly. That was where my journey as an artist began. I started my own YouTube channel where I created vlogs & also started creating content for Instagram. I recently had the amazing opportunity to debut on Amazon Prime in the Modern Love Hyderabad series, which eventually gave me the “actor” tag. Apart from that I’m also an entrepreneur, I love starting new ventures & experimenting with things. I have two labels, one with my bestfriend called “Hydrostan” where we make super cool Hyderabadi & Pan Indian merch & another one with my aunt that I launched a week ago called “Raazee” where we make affordable luxury Indian wear. I guess it’s a trait of being a Gemini, Geminis get bored easily! So I like to keep things interesting and that’s how I end up doing many things all at once!

What sparked your interest in your particular field of expertise?

I’ve always been a big fan of cinema and had the inclination of being in front of the camera. I love making people laugh in a world where everyone is dealing with their own set of challenges on a daily basis. I do what I do because it makes others happy, which in turn makes me extremely happy.

Can you share any memorable/ funny work related experience ?

Funny - every video we shoot for Hyderabad diaries is filled with laughter. If one cracks, we all crack. It’s hard to get through the shoot when every one is having fun & improvising on set. I’m usually very professional and do my dialogues without busting into a fit of laughter but IF I DO, I can’t stop. I then need to take some time out, have some water, distract myself & come back!

Memorable - every moment I spent on the sets of Modern love Hyd. It was a dream come true. From working with OGs like Nagesh Kukunoor sir to getting my own vanity on set, everything was so overwhelming. It will forever be etched in my mind.

What’s your favourite thing about the city of Hyderabad?

Everything! I love how peaceful it is, the sukoon we feel in this city cannot be found anywhere else. I travelled extensively during my tennis days and even now I love travelling but I cannot wait to come back home every single time. I don’t think I’d ever be able to settle down anywhere else. Hyderabad is home for me. The food, the people, the way everyone lives in harmony…it’s perfect! Hyderabadi for life.

All credit goes to my mom it was her dream always to see me on big screens she pushed me to learn acting at the National School of Drama Institute Delhi and then shifting to Mumbai and trying for this acting project was also her plan Things didn’t come overnight in this industry being a single mother and daughter we both have worked hard without any godfather but I believe dreams do come true, especially in the city of Mumbai.

it’s always been acting I was a child artist in Delhi and started my career in acting when I was just 5 years old so in fact, I got my first salary after doing the Doordarshan show.

definitely yes, I did one reality show last year for Jio Temptation Island so it’s not an easy thing staying away from family and social media for such a long time So I’m already aware of the norms.

Oh, I've got quite the zoo at home! There's Rusty, the golden retriever who's been my loyal sidekick for a whopping 10 years, Casper the spitz with more sass than a diva (and yes, he's definitely a he!), Furby the mini pom who's basically a walking fluff bomb, Blieker the husky who's still convinced he's a lap dog, and let's not forget Zuri and Shadow, the dynamic duo I adopted into the pack. As for favorites, it's a tough call between Blieker, named after my gun brand because he's the largest and Furby, named after my favorite childhood toy because she's the tiniest tornado on four legs

What's the weirdest habit your pet has that never fails to make you laugh?

Picture this: I walk through the door, and suddenly, it's like I'm the star of a bark-filled Broadway show They're jumping, barking, and demanding treats like they've just won the lottery. It's like a canine confetti party, and I'm the guest of honor!

If your pet could talk, what’s the first thing you think they would say to you?

Bleiker, in all his husky wisdom, would probably look me straight in the eye and say, "I love you more, human Now, where's my belly rub?" And Furby, well, she'd probably unleash her inner detective and demand to know the secret location of every hidden treat in the house.

If your pet had a job, what do you think they would excel at?

Bleiker would undoubtedly be the top chef in the canine culinary world I can already imagine him crafting gourmet dishes with a hint of kibble and a sprinkle of love. And as for Furby, she'd make Sherlock Holmes look like an amateur detective No treat would go undiscovered, no squirrel would escape her scrutiny she'd be the master sleuth of the pet universe!

Beyond my professional role, I'm dedicated to being a full-time dog mama to my two beloved retrievers: Lady Ela, a 2-year-old English Retriever, and Lady Chelsea, a 1.5-yearold Golden Retriever. Both of them share an amazing relationship with the team. Both of them are integral to our team and share a wonderful bond with all our colleagues. They've even been given official titles:

Lady Ela is our Chief Pawsitivity Officer (CPO), while Lady Chelsea serves as the Chief Treats Analyst (CTA).

What's the weirdest habit your pet has that never fails to make you laugh?

Lady Ela showcases such a unique personality that sometimes it seems she believes she's human too. When I start working on my computer, I make sure to set up an additional chair next to me. Ela quickly hops onto this chair, sitting alongside me as if she's participating in the work. If I have to work late, she loyally stays right there with me, keeping company for the extra hours. But every half hour, she makes a gentle demand for her version of a break—a paw massage and some cuddles.

What's the silliest nickname you've given your pet and how did it come about?

Although we've given them countless nicknames, Ela is affectionately known as E-Puppy and Chelsea as C-Puppy, because in my eyes, they'll forever remain my babies, no matter their age or size.

If your pet had a catchphrase, what do you think it would be?

Ela earns the title "Her Royal Highness" reflecting her demeanor and regal attitude.

Meanwhile, Chelsea is the "Flying Duchtdog," because of her lightning-fast moves and her obsession with fetch.

I'm Padma Raju V, a PhD enthusiast with a big love for my pets! I've got a bunch of pets - dogs, birds, cows, horses, even a snake. But Koel my horse, a gift from my coach, is extra special. I trusted her to my Best friend, knowing he'd take good care of her. Now, seeing Koel thrive as a gentle teacher for kids at a riding academy fills me with pride I'm currently focused on earning and saving up, with more responsibilities piling up, but I make sure to spend weekends with my furry and feathery pals. My dream is to retire in a peaceful countryside life surrounded by my beloved animals, including Koel, living the simple life I love. Retirement's on the horizon, and I'm getting ready for it step by step

My answer would be "Take me to the damn cafe " Hehe, as I always used to take my dogs to cafes almost every day. They would just wait for their chance to visit cafes with me. I remember the years I only used to spend time with them at a cafe, and those memories can never be forgotten. And now, I don't have time, and I miss it

What advice would you give to others who share your passion for animals but may be juggling career aspirations and financial goals?

My advice would be to never lose sight of your passion for animals, even amidst the demands of daily life. While career and financial stability are important, finding moments to nurture your bond with pets can bring immense joy and fulfillment. Whether it's through volunteering at shelters, fostering animals in need, or simply spending quality time with your own pets, prioritize those moments of connection they're truly priceless

1 memory that you preserve with all heart with your pet

One unforgettable memory I have is the surprise of witnessing my dog, Spicy, give birth I had no idea what she was expecting, mistaking her weight gain for a normal occurrence. Then, out of the blue, I received a call announcing Spicy had given birth to three adorable puppies Although I didn't see her often, I'm grateful for the beautiful surprise she brought into my life, and the joy her puppies continue to bring to my friends' homes.

“I have done my masters in Surgery and Radiology from GADVASU, which has one of the best surgery departments in the country. I started my practice a few months after getting my master's and have been running it since and started a second branch last April. I have also earned a diploma in Animal Welfare Law from NALSAR University and am currently pursuing my Executive MBA program at ISB Hyderabad. Along with running my practice, I manage an Instagram page (jasleenspetcare) to help pet parents with tips and suggestions on pet care. In my free time, I crochet, a dying art I learnt from my grandmother. I currently have 6 dogs, 2 at home (Perrito and Kat), 2 in my clinic (Tuxedo and Kutti) and 2 at my farmhouse (Mint and Violet). They are all crossbreeds and were adopted by my family and me.”

As a veterinarian, how do you believe pet owners can best celebrate International Pets Day while prioritizing their pet's health and well-being?

In my opinion, the ideal way to celebrate International Pets Day is by scheduling a comprehensive general check-up for our furry friends. It's astonishing how infrequently pets are taken for these check-ups unless they exhibit specific signs of illness or are due for their annual vaccinations. Given the increasing occurrences of tick fever and the stress of summer, I strongly advocate for regular check-ups, preventive medications for all pets, and routine blood tests for older pets. This ensures their well-being and longevity.

What are some common misconceptions about pet care that you often encounter, and how can pet owners better educate themselves on proper pet care practices?

One common misconception I often encounter is the belief that all pets need to be mated at least once in their lives for better health and a longer lifespan. Another misconception among many cat parents is the idea that cats should be given milk regularly. It's true that we've grown up watching cartoons like Tom and Jerry, where Tom is often seen drinking milk, but these cartoons can be misleading.

However, these are just a couple of the many misconceptions that pet parents have. I always advise my clients to feel free to ask us any questions they have, or to utilize resources like Google for thorough research before adopting any pet. In pet care, there's no such thing as too many questions, as ensuring the best for our furry companions is always a top priority.

Can you share any tips or recommendations for pet owners to ensure their pets lead happy and healthy lives year-round?

The most crucial advice I can offer to pet parents, particularly those with female pets, is to have them spayed at an early age. This not only reduces the risks associated with anesthesia later in life but also lowers the likelihood of emergency surgeries due to conditions like pyometra or mammary tumors. These conditions stem from the constant hormonal imbalance female pets endure with each heat cycle. Secondly, I strongly recommend putting pets on a regular tick and flea prevention regimen. This could involve spot-on treatments or the various tablets available in the market. We encounter at least 3-5 cases of tick fever every week, and some of these cases arrive in critical conditions. This is stressful for both the pet and the pet parent. Thus, it's always better to focus on prevention rather than cure.

In your experience, what are some of the most prevalent health issues that pets face, and how can pet owners prevent or manage these conditions?

Health issues can vary significantly from breed to breed. For instance, large breeds often face challenges like hip dysplasia, which can manifest at a young age, or arthritis as they age. Brachycephalic breeds such as pugs, Shih Tzus, and Lhasa Apsos are prone to respiratory issues, skin infections, and ophthalmic conditions like corneal ulcers or dry eye due to their slightly bulging eyes. Medium breeds like beagles and dachshunds commonly deal with thyroid issues, while Persian cats are susceptible to Upper Urinary Tract Infections. While these conditions can be managed, it's crucial to know how to detect them, recognize the warning signs, and understand the recommended frequency for check-ups related to these issues. This emphasizes the importance of thorough research on the specific breed you have, especially regarding the common health conditions they are predisposed to. This knowledge allows for timely intervention and the implementation of preventive measures right from the start.

How has the role of pets in people's lives evolved over the years, and what impact does this have on veterinary care?

Pets have evolved from being mere guard dogs or status symbols to becoming integral members of the family. In recent years, more and more Millennials have opted to adopt a pet rather than have children, strengthening the emotional bond between pet parents and their companions. Pet owners are increasingly willing to invest in their pets' well-being, whether through visits to highquality grooming parlors for regular maintenance or more frequent trips to the vet to ensure their pet's health. This shift has also led to a change in how veterinarians approach their work. Empathy towards pets has grown among veterinarians, recognizing the significant role these animals play in their owners' lives.

Additionally, there are fewer monetary restrictions by the pet parents on diagnostic tools and procedures, allowing veterinarians to provide more comprehensive care and support to pets and their families.

As we celebrate International Pets Day, what message would you like to convey to pet owners about the importance of regular veterinary check-ups and preventive care for their pets?

Just as humans prioritize yearly check-ups, especially in the post-COVID era, it's equally crucial for pet owners to invest time and resources in regular check-ups for their pets. There are certain health issues that pet parents may not notice until it's too late, such as signs of thyroid disorders, diabetes, tick fever (which I mention frequently due to its prevalence and life-threatening nature if not treated promptly), and dental hygiene. Consider how often pet parents actually brush their pet's teeth. Dental care, including daily brushing, bi-annual dental scaling, and more, is just as vital for pets as it is for humans. Oral bacteria can easily enter the bloodstream through weak gums or dental tartar and plaque, leading to various diseases.

On this day and through this platform, I want to stress the importance of quarterly general check-ups, annual vaccinations, regular tick and flea prevention, and yearly comprehensive health check-ups for pets. These proactive steps can significantly contribute to your pet's overall well-being and longevity.

What advice would you give to new pet owners who may be celebrating their first International Pets Day with their furry companions?

Beyond medical advice, I'd like to advise new pet parents to cherish every occasion, whether big or small, with their pets. These little moments bring immense joy, and the satisfaction of bonding with your pet is truly special. However, it's important to ensure these celebrations don't become cheat days where pets are given human food like chocolates, cakes, spicy foods, or junk food. These items are extremely harmful to pets, even as an occasional treat. Consider this an opportunity to explore one of the many pet-friendly cafes in the city. This can be particularly beneficial if your pet experiences travel anxiety. By doing this, they can begin to associate car rides with enjoyable outings, not just scary vet visits where they may feel poked and prodded. This positive association can help reduce their anxiety and make outings a pleasant experience for both pet and parent.

Can you share any heartwarming stories or memorable experiences you've had as a veterinarian working with pets and their owners?

There’s one incident that happened just a month or so back. A client of ours who does a lot of rescue work saw a street dog being attacked with a knife by a man (absolutely unprovoked). He was able to bring the dog to us within minutes. The dog’s artery on his leg had been cut and she was bleeding out. We were able to take her into the operation theatre and save her leg and her life thanks to the timely action taken by the amazing rescuer. It really filled my heart with so much sadness and positivity at the same time. There are people who do wrong but there are also people who respect every life and do everything possible to save them.

Another incident that comes to mind is a client who later became a dear friend of mine and her dog’s emergency surgery. My pet was admitted in my clinic at the time as she had eaten a bone and had a very bad stomach upset and needed IV fluids. This client brought her dog in for a surgery, her dog had pyometra and needed an emergency surgery. She told me she would take care of my dog outside and wouldn’t move from her side till I could come back to her because she knew I would do the same to her dog in the operation theatre, saving her life and being by her side till she recovered completely. That was very heartwarming for me because I was really upset seeing my pet on IV and hated leaving her alone even for a second. As vets, we can treat as many pets as possible, but when it comes to our own pets, we become emotional babies ourselves.

Lastly, what are your hopes for the future of veterinary medicine and pet care, particularly in terms of advancements and improvements?

My greatest wish and hope for the veterinary profession is to see more individuals join out of a genuine love for animals, rather than viewing it as a fallback option when they don't get into MBBS. It deeply saddens me to witness veterinarians being perceived as lesser than human doctors by some, simply because they believe animal lives are not as significant. If more people were aware of the rigorous training required to become a veterinarian, the emotional challenges we face daily, and the financial sacrifices we make just to provide adequate care, they would realize the profound significance animals hold in our lives. They would understand why we endure these trials without complaint.

In other countries, veterinary care is more advanced due to better payment options. They have excellent pet insurance plans, making pet care more accessible. Moreover, their adoption laws are much stricter. You can't simply adopt a breed because it looks good in a movie or because you find it appealing. To adopt a pet, you must be qualified in terms of space, time, and financial capability to care for it.

India would greatly benefit from similar changes. If we implement stricter adoption regulations and improve payment options for veterinary care, our standards of veterinary and pet care could improve significantly.
