I have been a sweet tooth all my life. I loved chocolates so much that I had 4 filing in the teeth at the age of 13. I always need something sweet after dinner. Right now, my to-go favorite dessert is Dark chocolate fudge and nut ice cream from Shahi Durbar Ice Cream Factory. It is the creamiest ice cream with fudge and nuts infused into it, just make it perfect. The taste palette isn’t extremely sweet, it’s quite light and that makes it even better!

Abhishek and Manasa IT professionals

Funnel hill creamery is a very decent cafe located in Jubilee Hills. We have visited the place multiple times just because of its great options in desserts. Must-try desserts would be triple chocolate cheesecake and triple chocolate waffle. The cheesecake was outstanding, the chocolate was smooth with the right texture and the right amount of sweetness. I would definitely recommend trying Triple Chocolate cheesecake as it is worth tasting.

IG: hoshika_foodblog Food Blogger Chocolate is definitely the way to my heart. My go-to chocolate dessert is the Chocolate Dirt Pile from everyone’s favorite, Farzi Cafe. I love how this creation leaves my taste buds awestruck and me completely speechless. It has lots of chocolate ingredients in different forms, most importantly lots of love. It is crunchy, soft, and creamy with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and some chocolate sauce. It is worth every single bite. Every time I crave a dessert, the next minute I find myself pouring over the Chocolate Dirt Pile. Wishing truckloads of chocolate to you too!

Over the years, people have experimented with flavors and given chocolates a gourmet avatar. More commonly known as artisanal chocolates, chocolatiers are getting unbelievably creative and experimental with their infusions. Dive into the wonderful world of chocolates, by visiting “Zuci”, at Road No. 46, Jubilee Hills. Zuci offers a range of artisanal chocolates, with exquisite combinations, whose concoctions will leave one’s mind boggled and tongues salivating. As I entered, what grabbed my attention instantly is the array of chocolates on the display. Adding to the artisan chocolates, they have dessert Jars, Exotic Fruit Tart, Eclairs, savory items, and beverages like coffee, exotic tea, and mocktails, among others. Not only did they nail the dessert section, but also their savory feasts give intense joy. My favorite is their signature 12-layered rich chocolate cake, and trust me, it is no less than heaven for a Chocolate lover. The chocolate flavor with silky-smooth texture, subtle sweetness, and pleasant chocolate aroma, was irresistibly delicious. No matter what type of chocolate treat you are fantasizing over, make sure you are getting a heavenly dose of some of their eclectic mix of handcrafted chocolates, by visiting Zuci.

Let’s Talk About Mental Health with

DR. HARINI ATTURU What is the first thing to do when someone is worried about their mental health? “First and foremost I would like to mention that Body and Mind are connected, so it’s important to look after both elements to be healthy and happy. It’s imperative to have a structured day with regular activity to ensure endorphins are released which lifts your mood- Diet, Eating Healthy and sleep are also important factors Many people have difficulty with sleep tend to be up for a longer time this affects their Internal clocks, circadian rhythm” - “ Sometimes in our lives, we go through phases of sadness and upset, where we may be so for a few days and we go back to ourselves momentarily - It would be concerning when this behaviour exceeds and starts persisting where it interferes with everyday life wherein you stop enjoying your life - that’s when I in my professional opinion would worry this is when you must aim to analyse the situation by talking to your family and friends and start taking appropriate steps to seek help. What according to you in your professional career is lacking in the current mental Heath scenario in Hyderabad/India? “The biggest factor I would say is the stigma around seeking help for mental health-I have seen in my professional experience that people are afraid of seeking appropriate help out of fear of societal criticisms, I would like to state an account from my experience working with the Elderly, they come to me seeking help for symptoms of depression (ie. loneliness, teary , sleeplessness, no motivation , failure to enjoy anything to name a few)- when I diagnose them with Depression they often state in disbelief that they are not - as they imagine a depressed person as someone who is always crying or is psychotic they fail to understand what they are going through because they are fearful of societal burdens”- in concerns of Middle-aged individual’s - “Similarly they are aware of what they are going through but don’t seek appropriate help out of fear of public judgment ” - A lot of literature states that teenagers by the age of 18 years up to 75% might have had unrecorded depression -it is only in their later life they realse that what they where going throught at tha point in their life was a form of mental health issue” What are some misconceptions of dealing with mental health? “One of the most common misconceptions that surround mental health is that it is something that makes someone dangerous, disconnected from society - whereas it’s just an illness due to some chemical imbalances in the brain - there might be some life event that was traumatic to which the body responds that way- Depression and Anxiety should not be taken as a personal failure - it should never be simply categorised as laziness or an as an attitude issue”- Mental Health is something “someone is actually suffering and don’t know how to express how they feel, to truly understand what they are feeling - you need to step in there shoes” What are the first steps to growing awareness about mental health? “The first steps towards creating mental health issues awareness are the aim to break the barrier - I was interested to bring awareness to Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder among teachers and parents

to ensure that the issue was recognised- often children who go through the above mentioned are classified as naughty or are seen as a threat to other children - if gone unchecked, this goes on to affect university life with the individuals fails to analyse themselves and stalks them into their married and work life as well - similarly to raise appropriate awareness it is imperative to ensure that the issue is firstly understood- this is same for other issues like anxiety and depression.” Secondly “ The use of the various media’s presence can also be beneficial for awareness (ie.Print / Social media)- Talk about it freely -its an illness that needs to be treated nothing to be stigmatised about” What steps should one take if they are worried about a friend or relative handling mental health issues? “If you know someone who is has a mental health issue try giving them a shoulder to lean on, lend them a listening ear- talking helps to free a lot of emotions “ Saying that “ It is important for whoever is giving support to know how to handle that person appropriately”_” if you worry about being unable to handle the situation it is best to seek professional help -whether it is by a phycologist or a physiatrist, these are unbiased profession who will provide guidance suitably” Should apps for mental health be evaluated and endorsed? “Nowadays there are many mental health apps which are run by artificial intelligence - these apps often fill a void of a supportive friend it collects your data as your reply - and based on their replies offers advice accordingly, Artificial intelligence is being used often in the medical field - but what needs to be observed is that its almost like therapy and therefore it is important that before releasing these apps need to be monitored to ensure its authenticity- to keep in check if the app has used the help of registered psychologist and psychiatrist to develop the app “ How can social media be used more effectively to bring people with mental health problems together and help them connect (e.g. in their communities), rather than isolating them in their homes? “Social media plays a very impressive role and can be used to create “social stories” which can anonymise a person experience and run a story that might to give hope to others - eg it could be an account of an individual who used to take antidepressants and has triumphantly beat TULIP -TUJULY, LIP - 2022 JULY, 29 2020 29

depression this shows those seeking help how things have changed and just this account to create a positive change for themselves “Saying that it also important to monitor the content that is posted on social media as sometimes dark issues can be posted that can have a damaging impact on an individual and therefore the content needs to be carefully moderated What are your views with regards to Covid19 and Mental Health? “COVID 19 on its on is another scenario - every day waking up is a pattern and like a struggle for a living - and you want to show your achievements but that can be a struggle - we start questioning ourselves - “what if it goes wrong” what the worst-case scenario is we start overthinking”“There is difference between you seeing a tiger and becoming anxious to you imagining a tiger becoming anxious -so for the first one it is a real threat and you analyse what you would do to fight or run away but in the case of the latte the threat is imaginary- you starting getting

anxious, you heartrate becomes fast, you get ahead ache, your blood pressure escalates, you start worrying you are not worthy and this impacts your performance and you start losing focus”- With Covid it’s not about individual survival its about survival of our species” - “ its quite enormous the number of people that are dying - but the answers are simple to wash your hands, practice social distancing and using the face mask, our tendencies make us want to over think and at this time we need to remember that we are doing all this for the safety of the species” “In my ending note I would like to say that people are very apprehensive about visiting a psychologist or a psychiatrist - to them I would say don’t worry we are there to help you - we aim to make you feel happy and to discuss your concerns in a save and unbiased space - “ Dr. Harini Atturu (MBBS) has MRC Psych (London) and an MSE in Psychiatry from the University of Manchester and operates at Sunshine Hospitals

Let’s Talk about Mental Health Why it’s about time we had this conversation Mental health involves emotional, psychological, and social health. It influences how we think, feel, and act. It also helps define how we control stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is vital at each stage of life, from childhood and adolescence into adulthood. Everyone recognises that when it comes to major physical diseases, the public always benefits from knowing what steps they can take for prevention, intervention, and treatment. However, this sort of public awareness about mental health receives much less attention. According to Actor Jaidev Reddy,” I feel, our mental health is as important as keeping physical conditioned. It’s a massive part of our existence and shouldn’t be ignored or avoided. I believe not only celebrities, but the whole world should come together and promote the importance of mental health whenever and wherever they can, by stressing that mental health should be prioritised over everything else that happens under the sun. Yes, I think we have a crowd now that finally understands the significance of mental health. Not entirely though, as we still have people who consider it as a taboo. We have all had our ups and downs. We live our lives in fluctuated moments. It’s essential during the tougher times you believe and keep faith in the process. That’s what I keep reiterating to myself.”

The Live Love Laugh Foundation (TLLLF) commissioned a study “How India Perceives Mental Health: TLLLF National Survey Report 2018” to help assess India’s mental health landscape to investigate perceptions surrounding mental health and mental illness in India - The study showed that while 87% of the respondents showed some awareness of the mental illness, 71% also used terms associated with stigma. This shows that stigma and perception are two separate issues, although interlinked. Celebrity fashion stylist, Ashwin Mawle excerpts “It’s always kind to share the good and bad of life with those close to you. It allows you to express how you feel. It will reduce your stress and anxiety.Well, one need not wait for the perfect moment to promote a dialogue about mental health. The moment you feel you are low or depressed, that’s the right time you reach out for someone. It doesn’t have to be face to face. But reaching out immediately is essential.- In India we all think and have “sab chalta hai attitude “ (it’s all ok)- be it small children being scared of something, or not wanting to go to school or refusing to make friends.- we never think something is wrong maybe we should talk to our kids about it instead of yelling and scolding them or telling them to change to fit societal norms Even for grown-ups- the fear of being judged, gossiped or laughed upon is more traumatic than anything- That’s why there needs to be better awareness, so people know it’s okay to seek help when they want to.” The stigma present in the immediate community might make it challenging for people with mental illness to discuss their predicaments

openly. The fear of being marked or judged can hold people from fully accepting of having any mental illness. People are inclined to remain in disbelief of the possibility that mental illness can happen to them, sometimes considering that these infirmities are prompted by having a weak mind. Steps to overcome mental illnesses such as counselling or to visit a psychologist for therapy are mistaken as weakness or failure. According to Ritika Matta, a counselling Psychologist founder of Bridging mind gabs (Private counselling sessions for clients)“Ensuring that there is a mental health dialogue affirms that mental health is equally important as physical health and the issues faced by people pervade across. The best way to promote a discussion about mental health is to continually bring up the conversations and ask for people’s opinions on it; this will ensure that people will at least go back and reflect on it. The discomfort has to be witnessed to reach a point of being comfortable around such essential conversations. Mental health awareness has a long way to go in Hyderabad/India; people still have attached much stigma around mental health and are unable to detach from it. There is much unlearning to do and a lot of grass-root issues to be addressed. Mental health issues are an interaction of so many factors, and there is a lot of damage control that has to be done in so many areas. We have gone long as compared to before, but we have to go far. This would come with psychoeducation and a lot of mental health awareness campaigns for people to identify and have a dialogue about it.” There is a need for the normalisation of mental health, as well as for more open dialogue around the subject, to increase awareness and diminish shame related to seeking help to make a positive change in the attitudes of those who are afraid to get the proper help they need. Marketing Director- Robotouch / MD - BConnect Realestate Bhargavi Yerram states “It is essential to talk about mental health as it creates awareness. People with mental illness might not be in a condition to talk about their distress. We, as friends and family members, should always keep an eye on near and dear ones. And not ignore them because of the condition they have. It can happen to us as well. Best way to promote a dialogue about mental health would be social media. It is a more natural way to reach out your network, and it spreads. Also, having a talk session in your social groups,

community, business groups, institutions will help. I do agree that awareness has a long way to go in our country. Everyone should be willing to talk about it and most importantly people should learn to communicate. We as an aware person should always educate people who aren’t. In the end, we should help each other.- I have never personly let any stress affect me in my daily life. I tune my mind not to accept any mental health issues. We have to keep ourselves very positive and consider living on a lighter note. Focus on what you want and not on what you don’t want. I focus on being positive and leading a happy life.” Few of the steps to create a compelling and safe environment for mental health is - To talk openly and directly - Always to seek help as an act of strength - Get to know the available support. Participate in local events, volunteer, and speak out Aarfa Abbani, a School Psychologist, Career Counselor and an Educator, says “Mental Health is real. It is not just a concept/ idea that we need to brainstorm about and leave the room feeling accomplished. Just like we ensure to pay attention to our physiological well-being - get ourselves enrolled into a gym or go for marathons – indulging in activities or conversations to build ourselves up mentally has always been the need of the hour, more now, given the pandemic situation. Mental health is not only about depression, substance abuse and suicides. It caters to the majority of the basic things of the general population experiences – like stress, actions and reactions, our attitude towards people and a lot more! The best way is to normalise such conversations, just like we all speak normally about diabetes and high blood pressure. The trick is to understand the difference between ‘normal’ and ‘casual’. We are all casual about mental health, and it certainly is not helping in fighting against the stigma that “only people with serious issues and cuckoo in the head have to go to the mental hospital. Why wait for tragedy to strike and not be aware of it right from the beginning. We live in a digitally quipped world where everyone is talking and supporting everything. It’s all out there, but ‘virtually.’ In reality, there are instances when the same people who put up videos, IGTV, posts on mental health are not too accessible or approachable in real life. Simply because 1. They either aren’t qualified to reach out. 2. To take in and process someone else’s emotional turmoil needs patience and ‘mental’ strength. If you want people to reach out to you, you must reach out first. Make yourself approachable.” We as a community should want to want mental health policies to improve that is what will make a genuine and real difference in people’s lives. We need to understand the indications of high-quality, personcentred strategies for the wellbeing and mental health of those seeking help spreads beyond the various avenues of a person’s life. We must try to be more empathetic to those who want to voice out about their mental health but have not been able to. We must aim to envision a kind of change that can be monitored and measured so that it can be recognised, strengthening the positive space to share narratives that have caused so much pain to pain to many by being brushed under the carpet. And as the famous quote by Glen Close goes “What mental health needs is more sunlight, more candor, and more unashamed conversation.”

Art Houses of Hyderabad Aristotle rightly said, “Art aims to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance” The art scene in Hyderabad is rich, vibrant, and versatile and has been only growing exponentially. The community of artists here is full of passion, empathy, and a drive to express themselves. The art organizations have had the artists’ back by providing them with opportunities and a sense of belonging. Although the ultimate goal is to unite artists under one roof, all of these thoughtful organizations stem from a different and personal value system at their core. Let’s get in touch with a few such organizations to know what drives them and how they have had an impact on the art scene of Hyderabad.

The Good Talk Factory (TGTF)

SPECIAL |

Rejected by a then famous platform in Hyderabad, The Good Talk Factory was carved out of the drive to create a platform where every commoner is welcomed to share their story through performing arts. With this vision, the founder Mr. Raghu inspired a group of individuals who shared the same enthusiasm for the cause. What followed was a series of brainstorming sessions, planning, coordinated groundwork, and consistent efforts which resulted in the birth of his very dream The Good Talk Factory. TGTF's dream took shape on 15th December 2018 when they organized their first event: ‘MUSING’. Being an amalgamation of different art forms like storytelling, stand-up comedy, guitar gigs, beatboxing, poetry recitations open-mic, this event facilitated profound learning through real-life insights. TGTF’s first-ever event was launched by a class 8 student Aafiya from a low-level income school. In conversation with us, Mr. Raghu mentioned, “If permitted our long-term plans will involve, widening the TGTF voyage to not just Telangana, but also to other cities and states that are a part of vast and incredible India. It’s a safari that does not have a fixed destination, though a path that will keep enlarging itself as and with time. The objective of TGTF is, for the commoners and by the commoners. We challenged the status quo by giving a platform to individuals to share their unheard stories, and amused talents, without imposing the restrictions of popularity on social media, Celebrity status, wealth & other such trivial limitations. There was a motive behind all the inspiring adventure of TGTF i.e. to bring back the forgotten values of common human interactions”. The funds received are catered to support child education and help orphanage homes. TGTF donated hand sanitizers and masks to frontline workers took to take care 6 women students of degree college by paying their exam fees, raised 3 students from a low-level income school by paying their annual school fees, and also supported a few NGOs

by contributing sanitary napkins, rations and supported 2 orphanages by sharing the clothes and other household necessities, all even in the crucial time of the pandemic. Instagram: thegoodtalkfactory

Hyderabad Arts and Culture Community (HACC) Formed in 2018, HACC was ideated by Faiz Jung and Zakariya Zaki who are poets themselves, to enable artists to take a break from their monotonous life and to provide them a community to collaborate, experience, engage in, inspire and explore all forms of art including poetry, storytelling, painting, writing, music, rap, dance, cooking, stand-up comedy, etc. More than an event organizing platform, HACC is a community striving to bring the artist closer to their art and in the process, revive forgotten art forms. While providing a treat to art connoisseurs in the form of curated events, collaborative workshops, themed events, and relevant conversations, HACC also organizes open mics giving an opportunity and platform to budding performers. HACC has been constantly collaborating with other art houses and communities in the city with the sole aim of giving artists exposure and networking. Before lockdown, HACC collaborated with Rekhta (India’s largest Urdu literature community) which was the first time Rekhta’s event was hosted in Hyderabad. Apart from this, HACC has previously collaborated with organizations like Anjuman-e-Fannan, My City My Voice, and Speakers of Hyderabad to name a few. HACC has also organized workshops on different levels for writing, painting, poetry, and storytelling. Recently on the occasion of International terrorism day, HACC organized an event filled with stories from the heart and soulful poetry, meaningful panel discussions, and emotions crafted in art. Samahaara Theatre

SPECIAL |

Samahaara theatre was started by Rathna Shekar who studied theatre & acting at the University of Hyderabad, then Lee Strasberg in New York, and Anjali Koda. Rathna Shekar after returning from New York, looked at working with original content, new ideas, involving youngsters, and making theatre happen locally with locals in Hyderabad. Anjali Koda was a playwright with new ideas and wrote original plays carefully edited, curated, and performed by Shekar and the rest of the young actors trained by him. Later when the Hyderabad Theatre Festival brought in corporates, schools, and colleges alongside big brands and that’s how Samahaara Theatre took off. It can rightly be said that Samahaara has a huge contribution to developing a culture of theatre (i.e., workshops, training, and paid theatre shows) in Hyderabad. Getting professional directors and trained actors meant the audience enjoyed a show and came back for more. Since Samahaara is offering weekend, weekday, and diploma courses in theatre and acting already, they are looking to amp it up into doing full-time courses and academic courses that offer multiple streams in arts and media. Samahaara has also started a cinema wing named ‘Samahaara Sainma’ and is currently in the process of working on 2 projects in pre-production alongside collab shoots. Samahaara has organized 8 theatre festivals, conducted More than 200 Theatre workshops mentoring thousands of actors, produced more than 100 plays, performed more than 400 shows, and participated in several National Theatre Festivals all over India. Like the rest of the world, lockdown came with its challenges for Samahaara as well. All the plays and workshops planned offline were at a halt. So, they switched to taking workshops online. In a conversation with us, Samahaara’s team member Mr.Arjun mentioned, “One of the most impactful things have been doing the workshops for the public, for schools and colleges and even training teachers and faculty to help create better theatre at that level. This adds to the interest and awareness of children and the general audience alike, who then look at perusing theatre as a patron if not a performer. Bringing in interested individuals together with seasoned trainers and directors elevated the

quality of theatre and added immensely to the theatre culture of Hyderabad. The original plays and productions fetched a lot of accolades including one by Anjali Koda “Purushotham” that was part of the syllabus for BFA and MFA programs of Rutgers state university of New Jersey.” Instagram: samahaaratheatre

The Nations Rock Beat (NRB) Nations Rock Beat is a creative house formed to provide a community for professionals working in different fields who have art in their hearts. A huge chunk of artists from NRB are from various fields like engineering, commerce, IT employees, and doctors who also happen to be dancers, musicians, poets, theatre artists, etc. After college life, it becomes extremely difficult to find art-driven communities and environments and explore opportunities which eventually affects an artist’s drive to create art and more importantly to grow as an artist. With a vision of catering to this need, NRB was formed. They scout talent and curate their artists on a fairly regular basis. These artists meet for various activities, projects, workshops, practice, or jam sessions to develop their skillset and be ready for the stage. Their association with Hyderabad Literary Festival (HLF) and T hub needs no specific mention. NRB has recently started a community center, a physical space called The NRB den which they hope to convert into an art and culture hub in Secunderabad. With NRB den, NRB aims to fill the void that is the lack of cultural centers and clubs, particularly in this part of the city (Secunderabad). This cozy place would be perfect for any intimate events, or art-house gatherings and is open to hosting events, workshops, and studio space for audio and video recordings. The best part about this space is that the food for the events is supplied by home chefs who are artists in their way. NRB has worked in the city for 7 years now and has a network of over 100 artists. In a conversation with us, Shriya, the head of NRB mentioned, “The idea of a creative house is to pool in artists and establish an ecosystem for them to collaborate and stay connected to their art. We are very grateful for these opportunities to perform at iconic places like Rajiv Gandhi international airport, Tank bund, and Char Minar which define Hyderabad. The vision of NRB is of course to build this platform in such a way that we can reach out to more people and have a real-life impact. We look forward to innovating more artistic ideas, and curated art concepts.” Instagram: the_nations_rock_beat

Unekha was started by Prashanth with a group of friends as a creator portfolio collection in 2016 and gained its creators’ platform in 2018. Unekha is a group of creative communities that plan and organize numerous services for our clients and also promote a huge platform for creative artists, local brands, and start-ups through flea market events. Unekha wants to reach out to every local brand that wants to grow its business and reach the heights of success in its marketing field. They provide a helping hand for this set of brands and companies and are also delighted to promote and motivate the fresh and new artistry in society. In the coming days, they are also looking to equip people with more marketing knacks and also PR aptitudes in every corner by building up our contacts and reaching every start-up that needs much more marketing and digital marketing services. From the creator’s point of view, Unekha is coming up with many other advanced ideas through many platforms like YouTube and podcasts which in turn, would be a higher and on-time platform for them to explore many people and artists., Unekha has always been an ontime motivator and succeeded to be a part of more than 200 events. These events included collaborations and direct involvement too. In addition to this, it has been a significant platform for various artistries to prove their talents through events, creator meetups, open mikes, flea markets, workshops, and featured artist stories. As with every other firm, Unekha had also gone through some losses and challenges during the recent pandemic. But that was the time when we have come up with the smart idea of the work called ‘small talk’, an Instagram live session. This initiative had become the finest barrier for the fresh artists to know about the journey and challenges of the achievers in the same fields. In a conversation with us, Prashanth, CEO of the agency mentioned, “The one major thing that motivates us to tie up with creators all this time is the successful network connections with more than 1000 creators in innumerable domains. Every creative platform usually aims at promoting and providing the best service to their clients in helping them to teach the high range of success meters. These platforms are the most

essential bridges that help people to find the raw and fresh talents that were never advertised or received any point of promotion in their journey. If we observe, these platforms have brought a wide range of changes in the field of start-up companies. They got the terms and advancement which helped the various start-up companies to settle with well financial and creative sectors.” Instagram: @unekha

Hyderabad Poetry Project (HPP) If you have been in the art scene of Hyderabad for a long time, especially if you are a poet, there is a good chance that you either started your journey with HPP or performed with them throughout your journey. Back in 2014, even though Hyderabad had Urdu Shayari communities and there was a poetry scene, not the same could be said about English poetry and spoken word platforms. This intrigued Akshay Tiwari, a co-founder of HPP, and made him start a community called Let’s hear it, where a small number of people gathered to share poetry and feedback. Around the same time, Drishti Nagda, the other co-founder of HPP was working on building an organization with similar values, conducting workshops with colleges, and collaborating with event houses across states. Later, when Dristi and Akshay met, they realized that the poetry scene in Hyderabad was growing and with a vision of spreading this art of spoken word and providing a platform for English poetry, HPP was formed in 2016 by Akshay and Dristi. Initially, the idea behind HPP was to be an open space for newcomers. We also wanted to take a different route when it came to our venues, we preferred hangout spots in the city like Moonshine project, Coffee cafes over halls and auditoriums to make this community more visible to the younger crowd and also make art, a part of daily living and not only limited to specific events. Unfortunately, in 2018 and later when the co-founders had to move cities, HPP got to a halt point. But after the pandemic, HPP revived its stature and has been regularly organizing events since then. In conversation with us, Akshay mentions, “We realized at the beginning itself that bringing like minds together and building a safe community space is more important than building an organization. Considering both of us had our careers which were doing great, our focus was less on monetary gains and more on sharing art. We essentially wanted to make poetry sustainable by doing shows, getting poets paid, and getting them shows. We want our poets to be known outside Hyderabad. We see language as just a medium to

communicate and not a barrier to poetry.” HPP has big plans in terms of shows, and workshops for the coming months. Poetry has also evolved from live shows to a video format which is also why HPP is looking forward to exploring content around art. Instagram: @hyderabadpoetryproject 38 JULY, 2022 TULIP

Makeup artist and blogger Instagram: @bhavana__rao

I was first introduced to makeup in 4th grade when two sisters in my neighborhood taught me how to do eyeliner, I remember being amazed by it and how pretty it made me feel. I consider myself a blogger first and then a makeup artist. Honestly, I first started creating content when I was going through an existential crisis. I was interested in films but that didn’t work out for me. My mom and brother pushed me into starting a YouTube channel and that’s where it all started and ever since then, there’s no looking back. I fell in love with the process of creating content and I’m also a freelance makeup. If I had to choose between being a blogger and a makeup artist then I would say blogging and content creating because I’ll be in charge of the creative freedom. I feel like the relationship between makeup and self-love is kind of controversial cause most people think that women wear makeup cause they’re not confident or they’re hiding their insecurities behind a full face of makeup. I don’t believe that cause personally I see makeup as a form of art, it’s therapy for me. I love getting ready for myself, not to seek validation. I wouldn’t lie it took me quite a while to feel comfortable without some concealer but it’s all a part of self-love. Like an artist’s painting, for a makeup artist, our face is our canvas. Makeup could mean a lot of different things to people such as a way to relax, be creative, or simply just because they love doing it. Makeup can also be a hobby, some people play sports every day because they enjoy it. I’m so glad that people are considering this a form of art and more people are open to pursuing it. A couple of years back it would’ve been a completely different scenario. I’m happy to see girls and guys learning more about makeup. It doesn’t always mean femininity at least not in this day. It’s fulfilling to see brands come up with gender-neutral ad campaigns. I would love to take part in any event or activity around makeup. Hyderabad has done many fashion and lifestyle events but I haven’t seen anything around makeup. I think that would be fun, most of them would enjoy and get to learn new things about makeup.

To me, art is an expression, it’s a release. When I was fighting my darkest demons, art, my poetry is what rescued me and pulled me out. Art was my savior. My journey with poetry has been all things wonderful. From meeting new people to being part of the community to understanding my art and how and when I write, it’s been one hell of a journey of grey, and I don’t mean that negatively because life is grey to its fullest and that’s what I always try to capture. My raw moments, and emotions on paper. Hyderabad’s art scene has been the crux of my foundation in spoken word poetry. The support, encouragement, and opportunities I got from this community, cannot be compared. If you asked me whether I would change anything in these 7 years of my time in this community, my answer would straight up be, “not a thing!” I have cherished every second of it and continue to because seeing the scene grow in front of me is about as inclusive as it gets.

Mr. Beatlust Songwriter and Music producer Instagram: @mr.beatlust

For me, art is about creating something unique, musically. Mixing 2-3 genres and coming up with something people have never heard before. I started my musical journey with open-mics and from there, connected to other artists I can collaborate with. The Art scene for a Pop artist was very bland, and getting shows and stuff is very tough. But in recent times I think it’s growing and more opportunities are opening up. TULIP - JULY, 2022 39

My name is Michael Tej Raj. I have been dancing and teaching for quite a long time. Presently I teach at Hy Dance Studios, Madhapur. Art for me is a modem to creation, that allows me to interpret and express which words can’t, so this gives me a replacement for words. Art with the mixture of music and dance is a seraphic form of movement that will always find its way into my life, as it has become a part of me that cannot be replaced or expired. The one beautiful thing about art is that it can be my escape from reality into the new world and at the same time it can be my home to reality, isn’t it beautiful? For me, it is finding that one moment, that single beat where everything comes together, timing, connection, musicality, and cadence as one. Once I find that connection, I like to use it with my foundations and mindful vision with people and spread joy in and around me. In short, Art is a way to bestow my slumbering passions and emotions.

The Hindi literature I was exposed to in school had a major role to play, in getting me hooked on Hindi as a language and had a great influence on the way I write. I penned my first poem at the age of 13 or 14. Once I was bitten by the poetry bug, there was absolutely no looking back. Thanks to the Hyderabad art scene that has been evolving and expanding rapidly, we now have a community for every art form in the city, be it poetry, comedy, dance, music, or storytelling. Special mention to the workshops being conducted at these heritage spots which are really inspiring and enable artists to learn about the culture, literature, and art in general and imbibe that into our art, for example, communities like The Deccan archive and Hyderabad trails. For me personally, art itself is inspiring, we cannot deny that all of us are consuming art on a daily basis in one way or another.

To date, I do practice Tutting and Beatboxing. Until my last breath, I’d want to explore innumerable artforms. I am a professional Tutter practicing the dance form “Tutting” since 2015. Tutting is one of the street dance styles that involve making shapes and angles (right angles) with the body, limbs, hands, fingers, etc. inspired initially by Egyptian hieroglyphs and depictions of King Tut the pharaoh. In short, Tutting is illusionary and magical to watch. My inspiration came from watching online Videos of Status Silver a YouTube channel that features internationally famous Tutters. I draw my inspiration from “Strobe” and “KingTutat”. They are my Gurus in Tutting and the fun fact is they wouldn’t know I am a student of them as I’ve learned Tutting seeing their online videos. I never knew I am this creative until I started practicing Tutting. Learning Tutting was a challenge for me back then as its principles are a little complex. Most people do not know what Tutting is and my initial journey as a tutter has been rough as I went through bullies, judgments, and people shooting me feedback asking me to stop moving my hands and start dancing. This never stopped me from learning advanced concepts and I must say I can blow the viewer’s mind now with my Tutting illusions. I must thank Harsha Maheshwari AKA Komet for introducing me to underground battles and cyphers. Hyderabad has got insane underground artists the world hasn’t seen yet. 40 JULY, 2022 TULIP

FOCUS ON THE ARTIST’S PERCEPTION The Artistic approach towards everything blends in with the rhythm and shades of culture, passion and perspective.

The city of pearls is also inclined towards the richness of artistic culture. Hyderabad was the land where the Deccani style of painting originated in the 16th century. Since the land is rich for not just the food but the art and culture, over the years the city has created some profound artists in this city. Most of the time it is heard that “Hyderabad’s spark towards art is dull” but the artists of the city prove it wrong as we see more youngsters walking in the path of Art and literature. The thing about Hyderabadis is, we often are adventurous and the enthusiasm we have is never fading. From music, poetry, dance, painting, and all the literary art forms we’re diversely spread over every art form we can come across. We’ve come across some of the artists of the city and we interacted with them about their art forms and their way to perceive these art forms. An artist always has a unique way to look at things around us and while we spoke to them, we were enlightened by their way of perceiving things as an artist. 60 JULY, 2021 TULIP

What example are you setting for the people who look up to you?

“I always say, “If people remember me only for my artworks that would be my biggest failure.” Art is how I emote. It is only a medium for me to put together my thoughts and portray them for people to see. And if I ever find a better medium to do so, I may not create as much art as I do today. I think the real question to ask yourself is, “Why do you create art? What’s your reason?” Are you telling stories through your art? Are you trying to reflect on society through it? Or present history? Or is it just because you find it therapeutic to do art? Find out your reason first. If there was one thing that I saw in common among the so-called big artists, that is their connection with their artworks.I often see some fellow artists feeling bad about not receiving much response for their works despite their hard work. I think this can be avoided when you first believe that you are making art primarily for yourself. You are not obliged to impress anyone with your works. Remember, the only person you need to compare yourself with is you from yesterday and nobody else.”

Being an artist, how does your perspective have an impact?

“Being an artist, you look at the world with a different story and perspective. You learn to see and observe things around you with an even deeper sense. I’m an Artist focusing on Meta sciences, astronomy and subjects that talk about our existence. As an artist, it makes me curious to understand how things work and what goes beyond it. Art has always helped me in understanding those things easily, it gives me clarity and makes me more observant over the things that I keep interested in, it has impacted my life in many ways, the deeper I go through the paintings, I appreciate the tiny little things that exist around me, it’s easier to express myself in paintings, and stay in touch with craziest parts of my consciousness”

How the art and culture of Hyderabad inspire artists?

SPECIAL |

“Hyderabad” being a city of Rich culture and Traditions and very well deserved to be titled as the “City of Pearls” had have and is inspiring artists all over the city, right from Charminar, the globalised symbol of Hyderabad that stands long and tall with its four minarets on the eastern banks of Musi river. The Majestic Palaces like Falaknuma and Chowmahalla are a few of the Many Historical sites that deeply impact the artists to learn the rich legacy of Hyderabad. Its unique blend of both historical Nizami culture and Modern Telugu Essence perfectly portrays the deep diversity and a unitedly strong Hyderabad. The impeccable art styles ranging from Deccani, Mughlai, Nirmal, Bidri, Madhubani and Tanjore paintings revive the inventiveness of many artists including me. Apart from this intense cultural, tribal and historical influence, Hyderabad also tends to offer a sense of serenity within the artists, like the calm of the Hussain Sagar Lake amid the chaotic and ever-busy roads. Hyderabad with its modernity also displays a variety of contemporary Art like Graffiti, Murals and Abstract sculptures and paintings. The city of Hyderabad is bliss to Artists in all its Glory as Artists tend to see not colours and shapes but values and forms which give us more insight on the visual and these inspirations stay in our head like a footprint on the sands of time.”

In the digital world, will traditional art still prevail?

“I think digital and traditional are just mediums, and like any form of art, the tools and techniques keep changing all the time. Certain modes of creating art may die out and newer forms would come out. These days, professionals may find digital suiting their workflow better in terms of creating art and delivering it. However, traditional tools are the most accessible to everyone (when it comes to drawing and sketching), to learn and to create. Traditional art has been around for centuries so I don’t think it will lose importance despite new forms of art and tools coming up – a traditional piece that is tangible might outlive data if not archived properly. Ultimately, I think it is up to every artist to decide which form of art they are most comfortable in learning and creating, and which gives better results for them.”

What is the role of an artist in society?

FEATURE |

“Artists don’t create the society, they reflect it.” We must see our world as it is, without a filter, just its naked self, to be better. The work an artist creates embodies emotions that help a society familiarise itself with complexities that are invisible but exist in plain sight. Art and artists capture time in a manner that stays for centuries reflecting the lies and truth of being. Artists show it as it is. Relationships, emotions, politics, every part that our life touches, are expressed through art in various forms. Artists have the power to transform the collective perception of society. They connect with a deep and uninterrupted bearing with their audience (society). Their work, be it a painting, poetry, song, act, any form of art, compels its viewer to justify or challenge their ideology/mind-set. In conclusion, artists play one of the most important roles in society. In simple words, artists are the people that shine light upon the unknown. The role of an artist is to make society aware of those elements that have not yet entered their consciousness.”

How can Art therapy help people with mental and emotional stability?

“I had learning difficulties as a child and art became the medium of self-expression. I would sit with paints and create shapes and patterns. During my adolescence I doodled all my intense lectures it not only helped me with academic pressure but also made me a stronger visual learner. Historically, art has always been therapeutic whether you love creating or simply enjoy watching it. The benefits of artistic expression go much further than relaxation. Studies show creating art stimulates the release of dopamine the ‘feel-good hormone’ basically making you happier and so Art therapy adds value in treating depression, anxiety, PTSD, trauma, phobias, relationship issues and much more. It is a great way to express your emotions, feelings and find relief. The experiences in my workshops have always been beautiful. Experiences where people create colours out of all the work-life stress on canvas by letting go of their fears, thoughts and emotions. You can be anyone a complete beginner or someone who creates art to try art therapy. Once you unleash your creativity your inner artist will quickly wake up leaving you with a sense of happiness.”

How did you start on the journey of being an artist? What was your inspiration?

SPECIAL |

“It was never a conscious effort that I made to commence this journey. I never even knew that it was a journey I was embarking on when I was a 5-year-old kid. I randomly started with a dirty little drawing of Popeye - The sailor man, being a 90s kid who was obsessed with Cartoon Network the whole day. Beginning with that and a few accolades from my mother, I started drawing every day not because I liked the attention but I enjoyed the process. It reached a new level when Pokémon and Beyblade made their mark in India and I never looked back after that. Eventually, I enrolled myself in an art school (JNAFAU) in Hyderabad with a lot of support from my parents for which I am grateful. My sources of inspiration have always been very diverse. It was cartoons I saw which kept me going and I get severely inspired whenever I see any passionate individual working towards what they like doing. Of course, a lot of artists I look up to motivate me daily to break new grounds and help me become a better artist than I was yesterday. It’s a journey where I keep discovering what inspires me the most and adds to the existing one. It’s limitless!”

As an artist how do you inspire your audience?

“Art is a way of self-expression and therapy to me, let’s me speak out and reach out to people and connect. For a long time, I have been sketching out my emotions on paper. My situations as a growing up kid inspire me to make art and people got connected to it. I would like to put my emotions, experiences out and let people know that they are not alone; we are all in this fighting and standing strong. One of the works that had made an impact is my ‘MOVE ON’ doodle. I believe art has the power to be a voice of many for many.”

I think people perceive me as I'm extremely glamorous but I'm very shy I'm a quiet and introverted person and I think I'm a mix of all things. I like to be in my shell fact as opposed to what profession I'm in and people see me as I'm a very sensitive person like you say "Yaro Ka Yaar" that's what I'm and I'm very thick with the close net of friends and family that I have I think I go all out for people whom I love and my friends are more family to me and I'm very affectionate with my relationships and that's how I feel like my family and friends are worlds to me. I'm a little privacy as a person there are a lot of things people don't know about me you know there's a certain public image that we carry but I'm extremely simple I'm a total goofball not many people know that and extremely lazy when it comes to dressing up trust me it takes a lot out of me to dress up when I do but yea that's me and I'm a workaholic person I think I eat, breath, sleep, work and there's so much that I can't describe myself in one word if I have to describe in one word then I think I'm a passionate person.

How did your career in acting start? Has acting always been a passion of yours? So, I was not knowing what acting was all about I started it in my childhood I was picked by Kundan Shah Ji for my first Ariel ad and I got excited with the whole adulation I got in school when teachers were coming up to me and you know being very sweet to me and it started like that. I think it took a while to realize the seriousness of my profession as acting and it happened when I entered the daily soaps, I was in my college days at that time and I did a few films also in Kannada and Telugu cinema. I think I started realizing the importance of my art after I passed my whole college phase and my passion started growing by the day it was never like "mei heroine banna chahti hu" that was never in my mind as I was good in my school academics too and I was quite a nerd also so, in fact in my school I was complete nerd this all goofy things comes from my school like I was a first bencher wearing spec's and all and that time I never thought of acting but I think when I got picked up and I was quite amazed why would someone choose me you know for a model I never really believed that I could be a model. I think my acting passion grew with time. Apart from acting, what other major activities do you usually engage with? Apart from acting, I love writing I have written some short stories I have written a few concepts in the past which I sort of directed also even in the lockdown I like writing stories and I like creating content, and yes all of those things and never know in future I may take up to direction or some other form of being behind the camera and I'm keeping that option open as well other activities that I engage in I dance I love to dance so, that is something that I'll love to do. What is the turning point in your career? The turning point in my career is too soon to say that for me I still feel like a newcomer on every set of mine I still feel like I have miles to go before I sleep I have a lot to achieve so I don't know if I mention turning point I think so it will be like limiting myself which I don't want to do and I don't think turning point has happened yet that's what I feel maybe. What fitness and diet regimen do you follow? Whenever people ask me about this I sort of laugh at this I'm absolutely simple I do not follow any regimen, I do not follow any diet but yes I'm very disciplined I try to sleep for 12 hours I try to eat on time I drink a lot of water and yes try to keep my mind happy and calm, I try to follow any sort of workout it could be dancing, it could be just dancing so I get bored with the same type of fitness regimen so I keep trying to change that diet I try to keep it very simple I eat home food it what works the best and I like to eat my cakes I indulge once in a while so I think I'm genetically blessed so, yes I keep it simple. What are some projects that you're currently working on? Current projects I'm doing right now are Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah which I'm doing whole and sole and I'm taking each day as it comes and I keep creating content as well let's see I don't plan a lot and I like to give whatever I'm doing currently my all. DR. SRAVYA TIPIRNENI, Dermatologist An acne patch is about the closest thing that you can get to a vacuum for acne. It protects the blemishes from dirt and other contaminants while absorbing secretion. The patch doesn’t heal your acne overnight. However, it facilitates the process of healing by speeding up the process and even prevent scarring. To use acne patches, clean and moisturize your face as normal. Then apply the sticker to your pimple and wear it overnight. It’s crucial that you wear the patch for at least six hours. Then wash your face as you would during your normal morning routine.

ZOHA KHAN, Student This is a hack my mother used to use and passed it on to me and so I am passing it on to Tulip and many more as well. Tadheen is a skin ointment and is a need for every household. It is an Ayurvedic medicine which can be used by both adults and children. As a teenager having pimples was a big deal. Therefore, Mummy’s Nuska (formula) of applying “Tadheen” in the night before bed was the miracle I was waiting for and wanting. This became a night routine for me that I still follow till date for pimples. Wash your face before bed and apply the ointment on your pimples in small amounts and rub gently. Do not overdo it with the ointment as it is very cooling and then your eyes will water and you will not be able to open them for a while.

@_avanthikareddy I choose my accessories based on the aesthetics of that day which depends on my mood. I am a huge fan of chunky bracelets and watches, and anklets have a tight hold on me. For western wear, my go-to is statement earrings like pearl drops or hoops. For Indian wear, I either go for huge chokers or minimalist neck pieces with studs. On casual days, you’ll see me with my John Jacobs sunglasses and a tote bag or bag pack.

FASHION |

@kimaya.jane I’m someone who loves fashion, and I believe in accentuating any look by accessorizing appropriately. I usually prefer minimalistic jewelry, such as dainty pearl earrings and a bracelet. However, I love going a little crazy once in a while with indie accessories, such as clay rings and beaded necklaces. I love styling my clothing by adding accessories, and I believe that it’s an important part of fashion.

Mahnaz

(@justmahnaz As a modest fashion blogger, it’s almost second nature for me to match my hijab with at least one of my accessories. You’ll find me matching my bags or shoes with it in most of my looks. Jewelry does get quite tricky, as I can’t do much around my neck, but you’ll always see me with a classic watch and chunky gold or silver rings. I love oversized clothing & layering pieces, and belts give me the perfect structure I need.

All About Curtains Home is a special place for everyone and the way we design it matters. Curtains play a vital role in enhancing the aura and ambiance of a place. What to consider when choosing curtains? Curtains are the secondlargest element in most rooms. They occupy a huge amount of space, so the type of fabric and the design plays a big part in a room's aesthetic. Curtains are not just aesthetics; they are super functional. Choose curtains fabric, based on the intensity of light you will experience from the window or door. For example, window and door openings towards the South and West let in more radiation than in the East and North.

What type of colors is suitable for summer? Choose curtain colors to compliment the furniture and decor in the room. If your furniture is dark with many patterns, opt for subtle pastel colors and fabric that lets some light diffuse through it. Curtains with patterns look great with simpler furniture.

Any specific thing to keep in mind while choosing curtains for the kids' room? Kids’ rooms tend to be busy - picture frames on the wall and toys on the floor, maybe scribbles on the wall! Going for plain shades would give some respite. To add pattern, consider going for fabrics with doodles and caricatures on them. Apart from curtains, roman blinds are a great option too.

Do you think curtains or the way we decorate everything reflects something? Adding personality to your space is necessary to make it cozy. Curtains, decor, rugs, etc. any element added after the storage work and furniture is essentially to dress up your space. I strongly recommend decorating with souvenirs, picture frames, and memorabilia to bring the room or space together.

What is your personal favorite? I am a big fan of natural fabrics like cotton, and linen because they are easy to maintain, the structure is great and they let the right amount of light filter through. TULIP - JULY, 2022 67

Namrata Agarwal is an interior designer and artist. Currently, she works as a freelancer who takes up commercial and residential interiorbased projects. All of her work is posted on two of her Instagram pages @namrataagarwal_ creativestudio and @artoitness.

Do you think curtains or the way we decorate everything reflects something? The interior design style of your home usually reflects your personality. While designing a space one thing that I give utmost importance to is understanding the style and needs of my clients and coming up with solutions that not only make the space look well designed but are also functional. Therefore, every element that I use in designing the space reflects the overall personality and style of the client.

What type of curtains is the best? There is no specific style of curtain that I can name as best. It is usually what the space demands. I like full-height curtains that run from the ceiling to the finished floor level but they cannot be used everywhere. They are generally used in common areas or when you have full-height French doors. When the space demands sometimes, we have to use blinds over curtains as well. Therefore, the best type of curtains is the ones that go with your overall design.

Is there any specific pattern or color to choose for different rooms like bedrooms and living areas? The pattern and color of the curtains depend on the style of the interiors and the mood board of that particular area. If it's a contemporary style room, then a lighter shade of curtains with self-printed fabric that doesn’t attract a lot of your attention is what I prefer. But if it's more of a bohemian style room then adding a pop of color while using the curtains and playing with larger prints works well.

What is your personal favorite? Like I said before, full-height contemporary style curtains are my favorite. I love full-height curtains because they make the space look larger by adding that height to the space. And using subtle colors and patterns doesn’t attract a lot of your attention when you enter the space, allowing you to play with all the other elements in the space as well.

WELLNESS |

MEDITATION AND ITS BENEFITS Meditation is an atavistic practice of mindfulness that is said to be originated in the Indian subcontinent a long time ago. It is a process through which one can relax and achieve awareness. Meditation to the mind is what physical exercise is to the body. Initially, to “meditate” meant to focus and think deeply about something. But over the centuries, the word meditation has broadened to a hypernym constituting practices of stillness, introspection, relaxation, and much more. These days, more than ever, as our minds are filled with chaos and our mental space keeps shrinking; we must try to adopt meditation in our daily routines. By Vaishnavi Maloth TULIP - JULY, 2022 69

HOW TO MEDITATE?

The world of meditation is so simple and yet so vast. There is no one specific method to meditate. With innumerable ways to practice it, mediation takes a lot of exploration and experimentation to find a technique that suits you the best. A few general things to keep in mind while meditating involve the following• • • •

Morning is considered the ideal time to meditate because it helps you begin the day with a sense of calm within yourself. However, any time of the day is a good time to meditate. Try to be seated in a comfortable place that lacks interruptions because it allows you to be absorbed in the process and results in optimal serenity. Although there are various postures you can meditate in, sitting upright with your spine erect is the most basic and primary one. As you delve more into the practice you can try out different positions. As you begin, it is better to meditate for as little as five minutes and extend the time with every session. The key to absolute meditation is gradual progress with an unhurried mindset.

IMPACT OF MEDITATION:

Meditation does wonder to one’s physical and mental wellbeing. It has a deep and spiritual impact on one’s existence. It also helps one exceed their limitations of body and mind. Scientific research and studies substantiate the advantages meditation has on the human body. Meditation enhances mental abilities: Meditation helps to improve the span of attention, concentration levels, and resilience. It aids in organizing your thoughts and ideas and in making better decisions. It develops your memory and awareness. It strengthens our cognitive abilities and nurtures creativity. Meditation boosts mental health: Meditation has been proven to reduce stress and alleviate symptoms of mental disorders like depression, anxiety, and panic disorders. It is often recommended in the process of treatment by psychologists. Meditation aids in physical illnesses: Meditation helps in reducing blood pressure and the risk of other heart-related diseases. It’s also been indicated to decrease inflammatory disorders. Studies show that meditative practices help prevent asthma, and rheumatoid arthritis and reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s. It also eases symptoms of premenstrual syndrome and menopause. Meditation improves emotional states: Meditation plays a crucial factor in accommodating our emotions. It creates space for us to feel emotions without much strain and pain. It lightens feelings of worry and magnifies compassion, empathy, and kindness. Meditation instills inner peace: With consistent practice, meditation replaces the build-up of turmoil with tranquility. It allows you to reach stillness from within your soul that eventually leads to a finer trail of life.

WELLNESS | In conversation with a yoga and meditation instructor

HARSHITA BHANDARU a second-year college student and a part-time yoga and meditation teacher, has barely turned twenty and has already completed two levels of international yoga training. She trains people who share the same passion and was on the TED talk platform in December 2021.

,

What is your perception of meditation? For me, meditation is a tool to calm myself and center my mind. A lot of people think that meditation is about concentrating but meditation is the complete opposite of it and I feel that meditation gives us a lot of energy throughout the day to get our mundane tasks done, and obviously, it is the key to our overall health and wellbeing. Any tips on how to start meditation for people who have no idea about it? Initially, it will be very difficult to just sit still for even two minutes. As you begin, take it slow, do not push yourself too much. It’s all about being patient and taking baby steps. A crucial detail to mastering meditation is maintaining consistency and practicing it daily, the time varying from 2 to 45 minutes. Constancy is the way to go so make sure you take time out to practice it daily. Why do you think people should practice meditation regularly? Meditation is the key to eliminating stress and building concentration in one’s life. Many people are unaware of it but meditation is a wonderful healing process inclusive of physical pains like shoulder pain or ankle pain. Practicing meditation with breathing techniques can bring miracles to life and improve your quality of life. It also yields us a lot of energy to run through our day-to-day chores. What are some misconceptions regarding meditation? Especially in a country like India, a huge part of the population misunderstands the concept of meditation by associating it with culture and religion. In addition to that, meditation is often interpreted as a practice meant for the elderly but there is no age barrier to practicing meditation. Anyone can do meditation anywhere and at any given time. What are a few health benefits of meditation? It helps an individual to dig deeper and connect with oneself. It helps to reduce stress, increases self-awareness, improves imagination and creativity, creates balance, and builds focus. On a simple yet powerful note, it makes our day-to-day activities easy and hassle-free which builds our foundation stronger and helps to enrich our lives.

WELLNESS | Why yoga is important?

To understand our inner world. To be able to live in harmony first with ourselves and then with all around us. And just to be better versions of ourselves.

What difference does yoga make in a pregnant woman’s life?

Yoga is a holistic practice that suits every individual type to ease any kind of discomfort, making the journey more enjoyable. It develops sensitivity of self and prepares you physically and mentally for labor. The healing is faster too.

What are the things to keep in mind for beginners? Don’t be over-ambitious to perfect a pose. Aim for smaller improvements and practice under guidance. For pregnant women, the purpose of doing yoga should be to develop strength and stamina, not merely improve flexibility.

Aasans you recommend for the readers? For pregnant women, I would suggest marjariasana, tadasana, badhakonasan, anandabalasana, and most importantly deep belly breathing exercises.

Do you have specific courses for different people based on their age & health conditions?

When a new practitioner enrolls, I take down their health history and current complaints and design sequences based on their condition. So, every person has their customized practice. I do run a regular group class too where we practice hatha yoga.

What type of diet is to be followed by pregnant women?

Against popular saying, it’s more about the quality of food than the quantity when you are pregnant. Always prepare freshly cooked meals. The body has different needs at different stages of pregnancy as per the evolution of the fetus, and this month-wise diet regime is mentioned in Ayurveda.

What keeps you motivated?

When my pregnant practitioners go for a scan and come back to me saying the baby was practicing breathing inside the womb. When I see the moms acing their births like warriors. Also, my progress in my sadhana and being able to share the small learnings from my daily practice with my practitioners.

| WELLNESS What's your favorite asana?

Shirsasana and Chakrasana. These are the two Positions of the spine that we don’t indulge in our day-to-day lives.

What is your goal to achieve as a prenatal yoga teacher?

I want all women to embrace pregnancy without any fears. No debate that the modern medical system is a boon to mankind but having said that it’s a basic experience of life to be able to listen and feel what’s going on within and to be able to trust our intuition. So, I would want women to trust their bodies too as much as they trust their docs.

What do you want to say to those people who think yoga isn't enough to bring changes in their life?

When you start thinking of yoga as a way of life and a principle guideline to lead life, then it acts as a catalyst to balance all the aspects of your life, physically mentally, and spiritually. It’s when you start to treat yoga as one of the modern quick-fix therapies it tends to disappoint you. Any change requires disciplined effort. A Prolonged and disciplined practice will convince you how enriching it can be. She is building her digital profile under the Insta handle @sukhino. yoga.

They encourage peaceful and memorable trips in this busy world, and they have never failed to provide that in the last year. They curate trips based on the seasons to ensure that travelers get the most out of their trip and do not get tired. Last winter, they did a series of camping and treks called “Campfire Kabhurulu Season 1,” where they listened to the stories of each traveler in the group and enjoyed live music with the breeze of the place, with their music partners being “The Nations Rock Beat.” Rachakonda, Vizag colony, Bhongir fort, Kadthal forest, Ananthagiri Hills, and Khilla Ghanpur were among the locations. They are planning to visit Rajmachi, Bhimashankar, Kothaligad, Manali, Hampta Paas, and other places during the monsoon season.

They have seen a lot of people who started traveling after the pandemic, and the first thing travelers are unsure of is what to bring. Their advice for the first-timers is to pack limited clothing, only which are necessary, as they have to carry backpacks. And to choose the trek according to their fitness level so that they can enjoy the trek throughout without any inconvenience.
