WHAT’S New?

Scabetty

Scabetty is a recipe in a box. Their focus is on international cuisines only and each box comes with an easy-to-make recipe with all the pre-prepared, fresh and exotic ingredients needed to cook it. These are carefully hand-picked and packed fresh on the same day and delivered to the customer’s doorstep. Each of their boxes is designed to be a full meal for 2 (a main and a side dish ready in 30 minutes). Their menu is available online only and will have three cuisines with three recipe kits each. They will have something new on the menu every fortnight and soon have a desert line as well. “Hyderabad has a growing corporate crowd and they are often in office until late. By the time they come home they are too tired to think of what to cook, where to get necessary ingredients from and then prepare it. Scabetty can be an instant solution for them. Also, for home makers who are always looking for something new and special on the table; Scabetty is a great option. Scabetty is meant to make cooking made simple, accessible and fun! These, I believe are the reasons why this concept will work here. Price range: Rs 450 for a vegetarian box and Rs 550 for a non-vegetarian box. For this price, you get a full meal and not just one dish alone. Each box serves two people. If you are wondering how healthy it is since its packaged food, don’t worry! We understand how important the health aspect is. We have designed our recipes to be as healthy as possible. We list the calories/person on the recipe leaflet for everyone’s reference and we also list this on our website for each recipe. It’s not packaged food, its the ingredients... Order yours on: www.scabetty.com. COD and online payment options are available

The Highlands Whiskey Club

This place gives a royal English feel. What more do you need except for a glass of whiskey to end a long tiring day! The moment you enter the place, you would surely be surrounded by the amazing royal interiors of a London’s club where gentlemen come down for a glass of drink. When you go to this place; definitely taste the variety of whiskies they have, like the Lagavulin and the Cardhu, which are amazingly smooth! In food, we picked out the crispy Florentine Mushrooms, Chicken Exotica, Cannelloni Al-Fungi, Chef’s Signature Fried Rice and Ratatouille - a traditional French dish! Highlands is an astonishing place if you are opting for something different from the usual. Second Floor, Aryan’s, Road No. 92, Film Nagar, 040 33165073 12 SEPTEMBER, 2015

FICCI Interactive Session on Women Corporate Director

FLO has taken Women Corporate Director as a national initiative this year. As most of you are aware that India’s new Companies Act, 2013 envisages a slew of changes to rules and makes it mandatory for all listed public companies to have at least one-third of the total number of directors as Independent Directors and a certain class of companies to have atleast one Women Director. Thus, India needs around 40,000 Independent Directors in the near future. FLO decided to take this up as their National initiative, where they would encourage their women members to train themselves to utilize this opportunity and have thus, created a new subcommittee called “WOMEN CORPORATE DIRECTOR”.

Sizzlers food festival at Golkonda Hotels

Melange, the global cuisine restaurant at The Golkonda Hotel organized a fusion sizzler festival recently. Why fusion? Because, they moved on from conventional sizzlers and gave us a whole new range of complete sizzling meal with choice ranging from Indian to Pan-Asian to continental. The Indian sizzlers like Paneer Tikka, Kasundi Jhinga were accompanied with delicious Biryani, Dal and Rotis. Whereas, few other sizzlers were served with noodles and fried rice perfectly accompanying the main dish like Barbeque Chicken Drumsticks. On more continental side, they had pasta paired with Bruschetta and veggies as sides. The food at Golkonda Hotels has always been delicious and those who understand true flavors have always been loyal to the hotel. The food festival was an all together a huge hit, the warm staff and chef personally took time to explain the concept and take feedback. Our personal favorite in non vegetarian was defiantly The Chapli Gosht – the meat was perfectly cooked and the pudina dip just added perfection to taste. The options were various but a clear winner in veg was the ‘Cottage cheese steak’ which was perfectly cooked to the core, crisp on top but so soft inside, it almost melted leaving the flavor of garlic to relish in our mouth. The other veg options also included ‘Paneer Tulsi Tikka Sizzler’, ‘Chowk ki Tikki Sizzler’and ‘Singapore Cripsy Corn Sizzler’. Well now, we would definitely wish they include these as part of their permanent menu. Because, they showed us how sizzlers are not just ‘a part of main course’ but, can be a ‘main course in itself’. Alka Sharma She is career oriented, has a positive thinking and loves travelling. She is highly motivated in whatever she does and enjoys her work. Work: I guide students from various fields to choose the best courses and career platform, give the right counseling for undergrad and PG courses in India and abroad for countries like Singapore, U.K, Australia and USA. We also assist students to get scholarships for BBA and MBA courses. I have tied up with top Universities and some Universities which offer internships and job placements. How has the journey been in this field? Being an entrepreneur was tough initially as lots of research was done to give the right choices to the students. There were lots of players in the market, but we believe in giving good service and right guidance as their future is at stake and their parents’ hard earned money, too. How did your career unfold? I got the idea to give good career guidance and become an educationalist, when I had to go to all sorts of overseas consultants who did not give me the right guidance and I was misguided when I applied for MS in a top University in USA. I have worked in the corporate sector in IT, Sales and consulting for more than 4 years. I took a sabbatical for few months as I always wanted to be an entrepreneur and that’s when I decided to be an educationalist and give career guidance for students.

The Glam Diva COVER STORY

She calls herself a brat but when you are around her, all you feel is a glamorous vibe and powerful aura. She is a woman with many talents, a mother, a wife, an actor, a producer, a television presenter and an incredibly warm hearted person. Coming from a family of actors, Lakshmi Manchu chose to make a separate identity for herself in the USA and bloom as an individual full of hard work, confidence and taste for perfection without using the influence of her father Mohan Babu. Like she says “If you are from an influential family, people may give you a couple of chances or maybe because of your good looks but ultimately it’s your hard work and talent that helps you get work”.

She is the first Indian to act in Network Television in USA. She did films, television and theatre in USA. She also produced a few films, has her own talk show ‘Lakshmi Talk Show’ on Zee Telugu and now she is busy doing her bit for society apart from acting, producing and being a doting mother to her little girl- Nirvana. Versatile as she is, she has a kitty full of things coming up for her fans. In this interview she gives us a sneak peek of her life, upcoming projects and her take on women empowerment.

Right now, just after this I have another shoot, an appearance and amidst that I find time for my family, because these are all things that I really love to do. Again, if someone asks me to clean up the house, or unpack you will find me running away to my friend’s house (chuckles). But, on a busy day, my day starts at 5:30 in the morning and goes on till 10:30 or 11:00 in the night. That goes on continuously and sometimes I don’t even realise what day it is. I really don’t know if today is Monday or Tuesday; I only know dates, because I know which date I am shooting or working, and that’s all that matters to me. If I don’t have work today, then that’s a Sunday to me. (Laughs) I worked very hard to be where I am, so, I am not going to say no to work when it comes my way. I am ever grateful and blessed for anything that I can do. Did you always wanted to be part of this glamour world? I knew very early of what I wanted to do, however, it just took rest of my life to figure out how to do it. I think a lot at times without knowing – our society instils a certain kind of box for you, that how you are supposed to be, depending on whose daughter you are, which family you come from or expectations of being a women from South India that to from a conservative family. So, I knew what I wanted to be but not how to talk about it. I was afraid to talk about it aloud, that fear made me run away to America pretty much. There people liked me for who I was, rather than where I came from, there was a freedom to do, learn and do things my way without any pressure or boundaries. So, there I knew and the only part left was figuring, how to get there. Did you take a professional course in acting or just went with the genes? No...No, I don’t believe in genes. Everything comes with hard work. If it was just genes, then all the children of NTR Rama Rao (uncles) should have been super stars or whoever for that matter. I think the art chooses you and you cannot deny it when you work so hard and if you put the best foot forward, you get rewarded. Overnight success happens in 10 years. You got to put hours into it and give it your all. As an artist, you cannot have anything you cannot afford to lose. Only if you go to gym, your body looks great; only if you take care of your hair it looks great; only if you iron your clothes the wrinkles are free. When it comes to acting people think that, when they just show up it will come naturally to them. I do not believe in that! Your first ever job? I was an extra on show called ‘Boston Legal’ and then I played a part in that same show a few years later. But, whatever we were, we were addressed as “blue walk that way, red that’s your spot” because there were so many people, they couldn’t call our names. So, I started as an extra on those shows. So, why not continue to be part of Hollywood, even after being part of so many shows. Why comeback? Right? Even I am thinking the same. What am I doing here? (Laughs) The thing is I didn’t plan to move here and as I always said, do what makes you happy and when I was offered the talk show; it was something I have always wanted to do. When I was given the opportunity, I didn’t want to say no. It was a couple of month’s gig which gave me an opportunity to be with my family for a while and then go back. Four and a half years later, I am sitting here and talking to you. But, thankfully I have not left my connection there. I have a Hollywood movie coming out soon which is called “Basmati Blues” it’s got- Brie Labrson, Donald Sutherland, and Scott Bakula. So, I have a real strong film coming out soon and I am really excited.

You have been part of Hollywood; what do you think about the difference in work culture in this industry, India and abroad? You cannot compare it! The people there take it very seriously by the book, everything is there. Here we take the creativity side a little too liberally. Even if it was a photo shoot there are references about looks and poses, what conspires out of it is different, but at least there is a direction towards it. Even with films; they have their story board and everything properly locked in. That kind of professionalism is what lacks here.

COVER STORY ng, because I believe in doing things that make me feel good.

Does your family ever have a say in your work related decisions? Well, most of the time I go with my gut feeling. But, if I am not able to make a decision , then, I bring in everyone and talk to them, my dad is the last one I go to after I make a decision because whatever his decision is, depending on my decision I have to move in that way. But, otherwise I always take in their advice. Are you the pampered child in the family? Absolutely not! Everyone thinks so, but no. I think, Vishnu is the pampered one, because he really knows how to handle dad’s temperament. Manoj and I don’t! When I am talking to dad, even before he finishes his sentence I am ready to fight with him but Vishnu is not like that. He will listen to dad and try to communicate his point calmly. On marriage: I feel like it was another lifetime when I met my better half. He is everything I have wanted in a man. Except that, I wish he took me on more holidays. I have to plan everything but then he says it’s because my schedule is so busy. But, he is one of the nicest and most amazingly good hearted people I have come across. He is a great son-in-law, great brother-in-law, a good son and he does it so effortlessly. So, I learn a lot from him on daily basis. Upcoming projects: I have a television show that I am hosting, I am producing another television show in Telugu and I have a couple of movies lined up. Again, I am confused on which one to take. And right now, it’s most exciting period where production wise we are finalising on the scripts. If you were offered a realty show like big boss or Jhalak Dikhla Ja, would you go for it? Maybe! (Laughs) because, those are one of the best shows, best as in most watched shows on television. So, why would you not want to be part of show that is so widely watched? You are an actor, you want to be seen everywhere and if you can use that medium to portray who you are, then why not? If they were bad shows, they wouldn’t be so popular. One charity close to you heart: One I have been consistently been part of is an organisation called the “Passionate Foundation”. They have a branch called ‘Teach for Change’ which focuses on education and I believe true freedom comes in from education. How important do you think it is for women to have her own identity today? I don’t want women to get confused about thinking ‘I need to be something, I need to have an identity’. Accepting yourself, being content in your body & skin and doing what you love to do, is, what is more important. Being a housewife is the most difficult thing I feel. I mean there is so much work that goes on to run a house. I die, with a house manger and 20 people working in my house, things still go wrong. I sometimes wish I had a housewife, like somebody who would be interested in running the house. It a very difficult job! I think owning who you are is most important rather than running after an identity, because you know.. I want to be Oprah... but I will never be one, because I got to be Lakshmi Manchu.

D’ Rozario Projects The D’Rozario Project happened when Keith D’Rozario, their vocalist and guitarist decided to begin collaboration with some of the best musicians in the city. Things fell into place at our first meeting itself and a few days later we had a gig waiting. The band comprises of Rex Vijay who plays the bass and keyboards, Falak Chhaya who plays the flute, Sunny Daniel on drums and percussions and Keith D’Rozario who plays the guitar and sings. “The D’Rozario Project is a relatively new outfit. It has been just over two months since we first jammed. In fact, we are just two shows old! Our first gig was at Hard Rock Cafe, Hyderabad and our second gig was for the MTV Indies’ International Blues Music Day festival held at the Houz of Blues in Hyderabad. We plan on writing new material, playing more venues, touring and having a good time while doing it. We play a whole lot of genres ranging from EDM, Pop, The Blues, Funk, Rock; depends on who’s listening, really! The music scene in Hyderabad is thriving like never before. There is a huge demand in the market for good, live musicians. A whole lot of venues are opening their doors to artists and audiences are much more aware of the talent in the city. On any given night, there are at least three to four venues hosting a band or a musician. So, whether it is the live and loud rock gig, a chilled out acoustic set or maybe even a bluesy evening, audiences can now choose their entertainment for the night, “adds Keith . Fear Vortex Rajiv and Chaitanya already had some material written while they were playing in different bands. It was time to get serious when the duo took to music as their profession. The hunt for a drummer and vocalist ended when Swaroop and Shariq decided to join the band. Shariq, the lead vocalist for Fear Vortex – his quest for finding the like-minded musicians ended with Fear Vortex. Chaitanya, started his music career as a lobby pianist and a classic rock keyboardist. Chaitanya is the keyboardist and founding member of the band. Rajiv is the lead guitarist and the other founding member of Fear Vortex; he searched long and hard, to find the right guys for his endeavor – Fear Vortex. Praveen, providing the rumble from down under for Fear Vortex! Swaroop started Music career playing guitar for a band then got in to drums playing for a band, with blessing of the existing band members who exclaimed - ‘Look no further!’ he took on the drummer role for Fear Vortex. The band has composed and written five original tracks as a part of their maiden EP - ‘The Other Side’. The next step is to finalize the mixes and release a single. The band brings in a spectrum of influences ranging from Yes, Rush, Pink Floyd, Dream Theatre, Opeth, Porcupine tree, Meshuggah, Children of Bodom and many more. They play progressive metal. ”The number of musicians has risen greatly in the city and a lot of venues these days have bands/musicians at a contract to play regularly. This is the right time to be in this city for music as it is at its cusp of explosion of musical talent”, add the members. Find them perform at - XSB Karkhana, Houz of Blues, Hard Rock Café.

Pandora’s Box The band formed in 2010, with Alan and two of his childhood friends Andrew and Aditya (Both ex members) trying to play the music and cover bands they love. They started off trying to cover artists like Jimi Hendrix, Van Halen, etc., but gradually through the years, they have expanded their musicianship, in the urge to compose their own music. The band consists of 5 members: Tanay Johnson on Vocals, Alan Paul on Guitars, Aniketh Yadav on Drums, Rohit Luke on Guitars and Rohit Nair on Bass. With their additional friends/crew members, Ajay Kumar, Aaron Paul (drum/guitar tech) and Ashley Paul (The insane photographer) are also a team. “The journey has been good, so far. Even though we’ve had a revolving door of musicians playing with us and leaving, some of us never quit, so that is a good thing. We have also acquired newer tastes in music that we didn’t like before. Future plans would be recording an EP of all our original material, try and promote our music on a larger scale to people who haven’t heard us before. As individual band members, we draw influences from various genres. But as a band, our major influences are bands like Scale the Summit, Porcupine Tree/ Steven Wilson, Opeth, Plini, Animals as Leaders etc. Our genre is, “Experimental/ Progressive Metal. Hyderabad as a city is still growing for live gigs. Thanks to some of the foreign artists who came to India (Iron Maiden, Metallica, Slayer, Meshuggah); more youth are having fun attending live gigs. This also allows the music scene to grow more and showcase artists from various genres”, add their band members. Find them perform at - Xtreme Sports Bar, Houz of Blues, Hard Rock. Encountered 777 They got inspired from a band called Avenged sevenfold and playing their music together made them form a band. The band consists of three members on board; Frank who is the Lead vocalist, on bass and guitarist, Vikas who is the guitarist and a vocalist and Bobbin – the drummer and vocalist. Our journey was quiet a roller coaster ride, we had a lot of competitions and winning few of them was a great experience, so far. Buying suitable equipments and getting started for the recordings was something that we always wanted to do. Some of the bands that inspire us are Synester Gates(a7x), James Hatfield(metallica), The Rev(a7x), M.shadows(a7x), Slash(guns n roses), Bruce Dickinson (Iron maiden). The usual genre we play is Metal and Hardrock. Hyderabad is an amazing city for emerging bands, everybody is getting a chance to display their talent and show their skills, “add their band members. Find them perform at: Hard Rock Café

AlterEgoz A band way back in 1989, AlterEgoz as a band was reformed in 2001. There’s a Bass guitarist, there’s a drummer, there’s a keyboardist, there are 2 guitarists, there’s a vocalist. “The journey has been by buses, trains, airplanes, LCVs, and my Bolero. We’ve played in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Udaipur, Raipur, Bilaspur and Nagpur. Some of these places, the roads are bad and the journey has been bumpy. We are creative people who love to play at every given opportunity and that are what we plan on how to give the audience the best. Every musician, who has not gone out to do music so that he/she makes money, every musician/artist, who spends hours to better their craft. We admire everyone who is passionate and committed to their craft. People want to call it Rock, metal, punk, pop, jazz. We play music from our hearts and this connects with people. To be honest, we are not a hotel band and therefore do not know where we will be performing next. It’s difficult, especially, if you are not treating music as a business. India is waking up to a lot of Indie music. Unfortunately Indie is a misnomer. Anything other than Bollywood is considered Indie. So, in the churning pot, Hyderabad is a little slow. But yes, it’s bound to improve as it goes along”, add their band members. Find them perform at: They perform at various places.

They are our very own Hyderbadi rappers whose latest video has gone viral. If you have not seen or heard out of it, we must say you are majorly lacking an essence of being a true Hyderabadi. We bet you can relate to every word of it, as it instantly helps you to recall the time spent with friends and family loafing around the city and bringing back memories of all the places in Hyderabad. It deeply connects with the audience and we can’t wait to hear more. DeathRap conjure of: Mohammed Abdul Moeed Aka RappBoi - He is just 22 but dons the cap of a rapper, songwriter and composer. “I finished B.Tech in Telecommunication Engineering and now I am trying my hand on music production to take my future into the music world. I am from a middle-class Hyderabadi family inspired by my paternal grand-father who was a famous Hyderbadi poet of his times.” Moiz Shujaee Aka Lill G - He is 23 and is a freestyle rapper & lyricist hailing from a Hyderbadi family and is passionate about sports and adventures. “I have completed my graduation in B.Sc and now giving my 24x7 to music and I dream to be an international artist someday.” Mohammed Abdul Aziz - He is 24 and is the managing brains behind the band. The planner and controller of the crew, he manages the pre and post production parts of work and coordinates with the production crew. “I have completed my B.Tech in Telecommunications Engineering and working as an intern now. I have a passion for photography and graffiti art and planning to showcase my work through a public platform. Why the name - DeathRap? Mohammed Abdul Moeed - “DeathRap” is basically a name of a genre that deals with violence, brutality, horror core and gore themes of rap. Today, society has become too vigilante; we see friends turn foe, relationship full of chaos then love, murder, shootouts clashes, riots the list is never ending. So, we choose to showcase this face of society rather than to stand out of the reality. But DeathRap is like a chameleon, we are not limited to any particular theme, we also bring entertainment, social issues and old-school raps on the demand and follow tastes of our admirers”. How did it all start? As we were growing up, the method of social messages was changing from nukkad natak to social media, SMS, emails and Whatsapp. The younger generation was mesmerized by great hip hop artistes like. ‘The Game’, ‘Eminem’ and ‘50 Cent’, Naturally, we were also influenced by them during our school days. When we look around we start composing our own lyrics on our day to day subject which are faced by Aam Aadmi, besides recording and listening to the same. As Majrooh said “Log Aatey Gaye Aur Karawan Badhta Gaya” our colleagues joined and started rapping. Being multi-lingual rappers we rap in Urdu / English / Deccani / Hindi to reach to a wide range of listeners so that our message is spread beyond boundaries, in other words ‘Music sans frontier’. What is your process like for making music? Do you have a set

routine or does it vary track by track? “Music to us is the medium of communication with society. Rap is a poetry introduced to the new generation. Our lyrics take you into a whole new world. Our music begins from the knowledge of the streets; our lyrics inspired mostly from the conversation of people in our society and different mind-sets of youngsters and their dreams. Once we grasp the theme which the society wants to hear through music, we start our sitting session for song-writing process along with music production,” says Moiz Shujaee Can you run us through the making of your latest project? Mohammed Abdul Moeed - ‘Nahi chalti motebari, rakhu kya kaan bhairi? Badi baat se tauba yeh riyasat shaan hai meri’. Yes, our song ‘Hyderabadi Kiraak Gaana’ is going viral on YouTube which touched nearly a lakh hits in a short time as it shows what a typical Hyderabadi speaks leisurely. The song totally describes the local language, culture, food, dress literally showing Hyderabad live in a song. What’s next? We are working on several projects together including our multithemed mix tape in multi-languages like English, Urdu, Punjabi, Arabic; plus music videos and cypher. Rap on ‘Paan’ (betel leaf) and life of unforgettable kings ‘Nizam VI - VII’ is a part of it. We have many more attractive themes with us, but having limited sources we bear expenses by own funding so our multi-projects comes out to listeners one by one. Next for DeathRap is an aim to be signed by a record label so that we can entertain a huge volume of people with our raps from the nukkad. SEPTEMBER, 2015 35

Via Milano - Italian Restaurant, Bar Taking its cue from an Italian trattoria, Via Milano offers a contemporary approach to Modern Italian Cuisine. The fine dining restaurant has an urban feel, with sleek interiors and a cool atmosphere. The restaurant focuses on contemporary cuisine by Chef Paolo Nonino who uses the best local ingredients and selected imported produce for the freshest possible taste. Without a stilted formality, Via Milano creates an ambiance filled with warmth, buoyancy and light heartedness of the Italian spirit. We went over to review the place and were at total delight. From humble staff to amazing cooks who gave us the taste of true Italian food, the experience was truly delightful. It was not exactly dinner time when we got there but that helped to enjoy our meal even more. We started off with soups and ordered for the best in house on suggestion. In vegetarian we went with - ‘Cream of Broccoli Soup with Balsamico and Parmesan Tuile,’ which was very creamy and a great start to the meal. In non vegetarian, we went for – ‘Cream of Chicken and Mushroom Soup with Herb Croutons’. The best part of this place is; you get the most authentic Italian food without compromising of any ingredients that are an absolute delight to your taste Buds. We ordered ourselves platter so we get the best of both worlds (veg and non-veg) starters. The Vegetarian platter included ‘Goat Cheese and Grilled Bell Pepper Roll’ served on a bed of steamed zucchini with red wine and vinegar dressing; there was also ‘Baked Mushroom with Ricotta Cheese’ and ‘Fried Buffalo Mozzarella’. They have a lot of options for vegetarians and take your taste buds on a flavourful journey of Italy right here in Hyderabad. Nonvegetarian platter had ‘Grilled Shrimps’ with mustard dressing, ‘Norwegian Smoked Salmon Rolls’ and ‘Chicken Breast Strips’ with parmesan and garlic crust. Each option was unique in its own taste, what we loved most was definitely the tangy chicken and salmon. In main course, well, Pizza was undoubtedly the first option so we went with ‘Pizza Verdure’- a veggie delight with fresh herbs and layer of mozzarella, ‘Grilled Chicken Balsamico’ which was served with baked vegetables and lastly ‘Cheese lasagne’. Desserts are always the Best part of any meal - and don’t they say Italian’s do it the best; well in this case let’s just say our Indian chefs do Italian the best. We were served ‘Tiramisu’ which was made with Italian mascarpone cheese, lavazza espresso and rum. We also had something new and a must try ‘Almond Margret with pistachio talle’ which was sinfully splendid. You can also choose from well, wide variety of flavored Italian gelato all made in-house. It’s a novel experience every time you step into Via Milano, so, book your table in advance and go on a flavorful journey. Location: 4TH Floor, Road Number 36, Jubilee Hills. Ph:64556677, 645555440

Food at Rucci and Idoni has always been great. It’s more like a bistro than a restaurant. The ambiance is great and food is even better. They keep adding and reinventing their menu to keep up the newness. Some dishes like their pizza and desserts are undoubtedly eternal. This time we asked the chef to give us never before tried dishes and we were served with the best. We started off with ‘Quiche Lorraine’ a thick crust on edges and creamy inside; it was just incredible. What came next was ‘Roasted Garlic Spinach Dip’ and this literally blew away our taste buds; well in a good way. Even though we had yummy ‘Chipotle Mushroom’ next we just couldn’t get enough of the spinach dip served with nachos. The mushroom was juicy and perfectly crisp outside. I have had mushrooms at so many places but they end up soggy but here it was just perfect, the dip served with it just added oozing flavour to it. Our drinks came in meanwhile; we ordered berry slush and passion fruit ice tea. With monsoon nowhere we loved every bit of berry slush in the heat and gulped it till the last drop. Even though I am a hard core non vegetarian, it is this place that makes me crave for vegetarian food, because they have so many options than just paneer and they all are very appetizing. I still got myself to taste the ‘Paprika Chicken’ served in the form of skewers and were spicy and flavourful. Well coming here and not having a pizza is just a fool’s work. We tried Piri piri chicken pizza this time and as always the thin crust and veggies with shredded chicken just tasted too good to leave anything behind. ‘Grocchi Pesto’ was something I tasted for the first time and fell in love with it. I list this as a “must try” and thank the chef who suggested this dish to us. It’s something new and never had before dish, the flavour is subtle but still tasteful. ‘Maggies Farm’ was a delight to eyes as much as it was to the taste buds. Even though we were really full by now, it was so eye pleasing that we had to take a bite - the creamy sauce, veggies, and crisp chunk of chicken was so good that we predecided to have it the next time we were going to come back here. ‘Fudge Brownie in jar’ is all time favourite and even after so much food we easily managed to finish it. Hope you all are tempted enough to go plan your next meal at Ruci and Idoni already! What is your Hindi Lingo? Cherie Niharika Singh

Every nation’s pride is sufficed when it’s citizens embrace their national language to the summit. Until the fact prevails of ignoring it, one must always strive hard to know their nation’s language. Hindi is a dialect that arises from the base “Khariboli”. Today, it is one of the most popular languages in the world thanks to the Hindi cinema industry - Bollywood. For example, who doesn’t claim to know the Bollywood star, Sharukh Khan. It is a great sight to view the language being widened through the tenacity of the citizen’s work in their respective field. As a part of the Hindi Day, let us see what few students view Hindi as:

Hindi came from Indo European language family which is a group of several hundred related languages and dialects of not only India but also from Europe, Iran and South Asia. There are around 3 billion Hindi speakers in the world. In Indo Aryan language group, Vedic Sanskrit is the oldest form and gave birth to Hindi. It is the National Language of India. The dialect of Hindustani on which Hindi is based is Khariboli, the vernacular of Delhi, UP and South Uttarakhand. This dialect acquired linguistic prestige in the Mughal Empire and became popularly known as Urdu. Hindi is written in Devanagiri script also called as Nagari. Hindi literature is broadly divided into four prominent forms of styles - Bhakti (Devtional), Shringar (Beauty), Virgatha (Brave Warrior) and Adhunik (Modern). In the last 2 decades, Hindi has grown internationally by web, advertising, music, cinema and of course, the market demand. India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s decision to use Hindi to interact with foreign diplomats around other heads of state has apparently ruffled a few feathers in India. Around more than 150 universities around the world, including but not limited to the Harvard University, University of Chicago, University of Michigans, etc. teach Hindi. Ab... purani aadath mushkil se hi marthi hai.

40 SEPTEMBER, 2015

Varshini Mani

Humans have ‘desires or defects’ in their mental body, whereas the nation has ‘language’ in its mental body. The nation projects it’s feelings through the medium of language. Hindi being the third mostly spoken language in the world, cannot attain the position of being called the national language because India is linguistically diverse and hence, the importance of other languages will be undermined. The reality is that not everyone in the country knows how to speak or understand Hindi. If Hindi becomes the national language, the scope for learning other languages spoken in the country will become non-existent and it will also hurt the sentiments of other linguistic citizens. Preservation of culture has been an old age argument against any kind of change. If we were to be preserving culture, then it should have been Sanskrit, that, we should have been talking about and not Hindi. This may further create a gap amongst the Indians itself, thereby, destroying the unity of our country. India being so diverse, its beauty lies in the harmonious relationship that they share. So, rather than imposing the thought of “One India - One language” and creating a controversy over it , we must analyze and make ways of making ‘English’ as the common language of India and so that it reaches every citizen of India . JAI HIND!

Salwa Ahmed

I feel we all must at least know how to read and speak hindi. Hindi is our native language and we should be aware of it. Every language is as important as English and knowing Hindi much better than English does not lower you down, but not everyone believes in this. It is only when we respect our language, then will others learn to do the same. Why not take our culture a step ahead? Why do we need to adopt from the western, why not change the situation? Hindi is a very casual and lovable language. One of my favorite line from Hindi is ‘jaisi karni waisi bharni’. In just four words it speaks loads about this modern day lifestyle. It simply means what goes around comes around. You pay for all your wrong doings and get rewarded for all your good.

Keshav Reddy

Hindi, being the national language of our country is one of the main sources of communication. I come from a school where learning Hindi was a compulsion, going through all those difficult grammar tests, ‘aaa ki matra, ooo ki matra’ teachers scolding and making me write the whole thing again, dictation tests, retests.. Ufff! All these hardships have led to me knowing all the Hindi that I know now. Being able to talk in Hindi has personally helped me a lot when I’ve visited different states here. My friends and I converse in Hindi, which has improved my language a bit (my mother tongue being Telugu). Being here in this city, where people converse in Urdu, my Hindi language is a mix now. I say ‘nakko’ instead of ‘nahi’.. ‘Mereko’ instead of ‘mujhe’ sometimes. People from other states used to take quite some time to understand words like these. I always had to repeat what I said in a proper form later. Talking in Hindi is now a part of my day to day life! Kehte Hein Waqt Se Pehle, aur kismat se zyada kisi ko kuch nahi milta..!

CAMPUS BUZZ India is a vast country with different states and people who speak different languages. I am proud of my official language (HINDI) as it connects the taste and communication with various states. Each and every individual of our country is proud of our official language and our mother tongue as it keeps us united. if you are far away from your motherland the language will keep you connected with people who belong to the same region as you. Hence, one should never feel modest or shy while speaking their official language (HINDI) as it represents our country and is also a matter of pride for indians . “ZINDAGI BADI HONI CHAHIYE, LAMBI NAHI”.

Hardeep Mavve

Hindi is the national language of India; but, it is one of the several languages spoken in different parts of the sub-continent too. ‘National’ should be understood as a meaning of the ‘official’ or ‘link’ language. The homeland of Hindi is in the North of India, but it is studied, taught, spoken and understood widely throughout the sub-continent, whether as mother tongue or as a second or a third language. Hindi has a special relationship with Urdu: their grammar is virtually identical, and they have a substantial vocabulary in common. However, the two languages part company at a higher level, because Urdu draws the bulk of its vocabulary from Persian and Arabic, while Hindi draws much of its vocabulary from Sanskrit. Besides, Hindi is written in Devnagari script, while Urdu is written in a modified form of the Arabic script. At the state level, Hindi is the official language of the following Indian states: Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Each may also designate a “co-official language”; in Uttar Pradesh, for instance, depending on the political formation in power, this language is generally Urdu. Similarly, Hindi is accorded the status of official language in the following Union Territories: Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, National Capital Territory. Hindi is written in Devanagari script also called Nagari. Devanagari consists of 11 vowels and 33 consonants and is written from left to right. My on-the-go pick up line in this language is “Mohabbat mein agar shartein nahi hoti... toh afsoos bhi nahi hona chahiye”.

Dreams Couture’d by Mehreen Fakih “Dreams couture’d was started by my own addiction towards night suits. My husband and I travel a lot and even when in mumbai, there are so many weekend get together. People spend so much on our every day attire but tend to neglect the most important part of any stay over, the Night suit! I’ve always been fond of matching Fish mouth PJ sets and would pick mine whenever I travelled. Only last year we didn’t travel as much and all my stock was over and I needed new PJ’s ASAP. After hunting for a good pair everywhere and being disappointed, I decided to make one for myself. With a designing background and working with likes of Manish Malhotra and having my own label for Ethnic wear called ‘Couture is Me’ it wasn’t that hard for me to source the required things and get started. It was then when it actually struck me, this could be a great business. So, I started the Instagram page named Dreams Couture’d with a picture of my night suit on it. When my friends heard about it, they asked me to make some sets for them too and that’s what got me to hunt for more and more prints for all of them according to their tastes. The day I posted the picture of their ready Night suits on my Instagram Page, my phone started buzzing with requests and orders. The response has been really great. People love the different kinds of funky/cute prints. I would always come across these prints earlier and wonder what to do with them as I cannot use them on kurtis but now I have the perfect use for them. People also love the eye masks and the idea of personalising their Night suits. A lot of clients call me every time they need to gift someone as it shows an effort of personalisation and assured utility. I am really happy with the feedback from my clients. I give the credit mostly the quality and prints, I keep adding fresh prints and personalisation and eye masks is way of making it a fully fledged store catering to all needs.” What’s next for your label: So far I have only been working on order basis. But I am planning to make some ready to sell Night suits for this new website. It’s called Scootsy.com and it does deliveries within the city in 60 minutes. It has an app and you can choose from wide options available. Anything you need, food, clothes, gifts. All delivered to your doorstep within an hour. So, people within the city can select and purchase the Night suits they need, either for a sudden stay over plan or as gift to someone before heading for an occasion. It’s a great idea and i am excited to be a part of it. Find them on: www.facebook.com/dreamscoutured Email: dreamscoutured@hotmail.com Instagram : dreamscoutured. Ph: 919820701143

Closet Conquered by Ayushi Patni & Shiksha Bhansali “We started off with basics and wanted to twist the usual. The idea majorly was and still is to revolve around the basics but with a different approach every time. In the fashion business/world it is very important to fathom the faith of the people looking up to you, to dress them up in your way. The response has been beyond our expectations. Thanks to the people who have been inspiring us and pushing us further to work harder; by not only appreciating us but also by sporting/ supporting our products and styling them in such varied and attractive forms. Personally, we think that no store is in competition with the other, as the basic ideas & goals of each existing label are uncommon. Which makes them rise above the rest.” What’s next: Until the recent past, we were just online retailers for the best productions in the arena. We have just begun with our own label named ‘Ayushi & Shiksha’ and launched our ‘Autumn collection’. We aim to make the Label as well as the retail station see bold heights and reach new horizons. The whole setup has been a dream. There are a few aspects of it still uncovered and are yet to unfold in the future. Stylish Women on Board

FASHION

Hyderabad is filled with stylish women, who turn heads when they walk into any event! We manage to get hold of a few and ask them their quotient about looking so glam and fashionable. “I genuinely believe every woman is beautiful, we have something unique about us. We need to know the best feature and accentuate it. I am a very moody dresser, sometimes you will find me in a pair of torn jeans, boots, or a well fitted peplum dress or no makeup and tracks the entire day. I dress accordingly to the occasion, but I believe confidence is extremely important”.

“Style is a reflection of who you are. I believe in keeping it simple and elegant as what you wear, should reflect your personality. I love accessorizing and creating a different look every time. Fashion should be fun and not taken too seriously!”

Asmita Marwa

“I believe that one should feel comfortable in whatever they wear, because it shows beautifully on your personality. I love wearing sarees and statement jewelery. Following trends blindly is a strict no for me!”

Honey Guha

Shivali Singh

Style to me is a personal statement; it is inherent, individualistic and reflective. My style mantra is just to be you. Don’t be a slave to fashion or trends. Know your body and let your style be unique. Be confident and top it up with a big smile!

Empress Pitara by Aakriti Anand “Being a fashion enthusiastic since teenage I have always wanted to make a career in the fashion industry. After completing my post graduation in designing and working in the fashion industry for a year, I decided to work for myself. It all started with a thought to provide the latest trends in the international market at reasonable rates and most importantly provide it in every size, so that no body faces size odd issues. Online market in India has grown drastically. Facebook and Instagram pages are great platforms to approach masses. The response so far has been great. We never thought it will turnout this good in such a short period. I guess the one thing that everyone loves about Empress Pitara is that, we provide them complete customization and that’s hard to get online. We discuss each and every style in details with our clients and make sure they love what they buy from us.” Your take on online shopping: As it is said, online shopping is a way to surprise yourself with what you had ordered. As an entrepreneur I feel it’s the best way to reach masses in one go. Yes, it takes a lot of efforts but if your product is trendy and has good quality things becomes easier.

INTOTO by Pooja Dhamdhere “I had a burning desire to initiate my own entrepreneurial set-up and was exploring ideas since I graduated. I worked with two media publishing houses at the start of my career, one of which was a leading fashion magazine. Two years later I found my love for fashion only intensified and I was sure I wanted to create my own fashion label. However, I wasn’t sure of the right channel. Later then, I worked with a digital marketing agency for 2 years, where I was introduced to the nuances of the digital business. This is where I saw my dream realising. Very interestingly, I finalised on the brand name; INTOTO before finalising on what the product would be. I was sure a brand name has to be three things (thanks to my internship at an advertising agency) affirmative, easy to spell and easy to pronounce. INTOTO means completely or entirely. So, the brand would complete one’s look in its entirety. A right pair of shoes does just that; and with the ever expanding ecommerce space, I make them accessible to everyone at their finger tips (quite literally) by selling online. We got our first order in the first 4 hours of us going LIVE and there hasn’t been a single day since, that we haven’t shipped INTOTOs. The reason being our designs and the price point that they are available at. The new styles we launch will also be the price range of INR 1000 INR 3000. Moreover, if you browse through our collection you will find a pair of INTOTOs you can wear for every ocassion. We also have an active blog that is now gaining popularity and good readership with our tongue in cheek take on the fashion world.” Your take on online shopping: Being an avid shopper myself, I think it is a boon. With the busy lives we lead, shopping is mostly done after hours. A shopping mall will not be open after you finish work, will it? So, today even if one has a physical store, having an online presence is a must. What’s next: We will be launching new styles in the month of November. By the end of next year, we will add a new vertical that will complement our current offering and be true to our philosophy of completing one’s look. “I did Fashion Retail Management from Birmingham Institute of Art & Design. To be honest, I knew from 5th grade that I wanted to be a part of fashion industry but obviously not sure of how. As a kid, I have always gained inspiration from my mother who is a designer as well. So, when I came back from UK, I actually interned with her for 2 years before I felt I was ready to start my own label. I still remember how proud she was of me when she came back from her show in London and I had my first line ready in January, and since then it’s been a fun, uphill ride!

Zooomberg Suraj Surana and Vishal Dave, the owners of Zooomberg lived in the same neighborhood, they have literally grown up together. While Suraj works in his family business, Vishal was a marketing professional working in the education sector and they always wanted to do something different from what we did. One night, while bouncing ideas off each other, they came up with this idea of a website dedicated to making international beauty brands available in India. With this thought, zooomberg.com was launched in 2014 to give Indians no matter which town or city they live in, access to luxury brands in a seamless, enjoyable online shopping experience. “People gave us lot of love right from the first day of launch, which made us want to offer products across categories and hence it was thought of offering our customers, a variety of the latest and most fashionable clothing from around the world. Women’s Clothing line was then finally launched in February 2015 for all zealous fashion lovers. Zooomberg today is an online luxury fashion & accessories retailer which intends to give customers the best of what they want from across the globe. We are working towards making zooomberg.com an individual’s Exclusive Destination for shopping of fashion and accessories”, explains Suraj. “It has been almost 11 months into the business and the response has been quite encouraging. Shoppers who have visited zooomberg.com have always liked the collection on the website and have also given testimonials and positive product reviews. We always believe that a happy customer can be the best brand ambassador and so, keeping a customer or visitor happy was high on our priority list. To closely maintain the steps with the ever changing fashion trends, we always keep an eye on everything related to fashion not just in India, but around the world and this is what sets us apart. Zooomberg today can boast of having an elite and trendy collection of women’s clothing which might rarely be seen on any other major apparel websites in India,” adds Vishal. Their inspiration has always been the established websites who have achieved a mark today in the E-business. A few leading websites have been successful in creating a market for any and everything today and that is where they also saw an opportunity of offering something which was not easily available in India. Their inspiration to expand also lies in the response, feedback and love that our shoppers have given them over a period of time and they definitely aspire to provide the best of what their shoppers want! “Shoes, as you can imagine, are an integral part of almost every girl’s wardrobe. To Harish Nekkanti, they have been that and more. My grandfather and father have in the business of crafting the best of leather and shoes, respectively, for the European market for over 30 years. Growing up in this atmosphere got my brother and me thinking about starting a brand that would balance style, comfort and quality without costing a whole lot. In short we wanted to provide affordable luxury. VAPH has a dedicated design team that strives for perfection when it comes to leather quality and comfortable shoe construction. Designs are made in collaboration with a designer in Milan. Our collection includes an array of colors and textures of leather. VAPH offers a range of loafers, sandals, moccasins, lace-ups, clean-cut slippers, oxfords and boots for both Women and girls. At VAPH we believe in simplicity and convenience. Making our shoes conveniently available is one aspect of our value chain we are currently working on. VAPH is available on Flipkart, Myntra and Jabong and is delivered all over India. We will be launching our very own selling platform on our website to further enhance our customer’s VAPH experience. Our new collection of brogues, sandals and lace-ups are also going to be available soon, apart from some interesting collaborations we have planned. My father, who has been a part of the leather footwear industry for over 30 years, has always believed in working hard and delivering quality and leads by example. As far as brands go, TOD’s is a huge inspiration as is Toms. Absolutely love their shoes. It’s been about 6 months since we’ve started and the response has been great! We’re enjoying every bit of it. Akruti - Ethnic Couture Akruti Sheth was raised in an extremely artistic home her mother Ami Sheth and Grandfather Kanupriyo Paul surrounded her with their creations, and their aesthetic styles and upbringing kept her culturally rooted. “I owe a lot of my love for organic fabrics - especially khaadi - to my grandmother, who was a freedom fighter. Her stories of struggle and swadeshi inculcated in me a love for traditional attire and - given my inclination towards fashion - made me want to design ethnic clothes. It was only after topping the entrance exam at SNDT University in pursuit of an education in fashion that I realized I was on the right track. After graduating, I started designing ethnic wear for friends and family and there has been no looking back ever since! Akruti-Ethnic Couture was established in the July of 2014 as an effort to promote Indian ethnic wear in an age in which we are being increasingly exposed to western modern cultural trends. My personal style is an amalgamation of experimental cuts, styles and drapes in Indian textiles along with prints and weaves like block, batik, kalamkari, ikkat, brocades and jamevaars. After getting a phenomenal response for both my collections Maati (Earth) and Banjara (Gypsy), I’m looking forward to creating many more! I am also preparing for some collaboration with multi-designer boutiques, in the hope that the couture brand Akruti will become more accessible in the future. I also hope to venture into the online shopping market by the beginning of 2016. The folk culture and largely untapped heritage of rural India definitely play on my mind most, whether I’m designing a gown or a ghaagra! The variety of textiles and the riot of colours found across villages and tribes in India highlight the pulse of this country. My latest collection Banjara was inspired by the Banjara tribe found throughout India, and everybody who saw it was struck by the fact that such contrasting hues and weaves appealed to contemporary women living in the city of Bombay! I believe there is no better inspiration than one’s own motherland, and you see all these elements come together in my work. Overwhelming, and that is an understatement! To be so well accepted so early in my journey is thrilling, and it keeps me passionate and humble and makes me push to make more, make better! I truly believe that Indian women are at their most enchanting best, when dressed in traditional clothing, and realize that the possibilities and audiences for such a labor of love are endless. To dress my dearest friends and families on the most special days of their lives, and to bring new clients the tiny joys that come from not only looking, but feeling beautiful - no designer can ever ask for more! Eurumme by Eishita Puri “Eurumme was born of a love for all things jewellery. As a child, I keenly watched my mother dress up with rapt attention, and that’s how my love affair with accessories began. Little did I know I’d make a career out of it! As the years went by, I realised that it’s important to do what you love, in order to love what you do. But, I wasn’t one of those people who always knew what their calling was, and I’m not ashamed to admit that. Somewhere along the line though, an inherent passion for jewellery made me ask myself one day, why not make a career out of it? And, that is how the seeds of Eurumme were sown. Eurumme, as a label, is synonymous with affordable luxury. Eurumme designs are inspired by everyday life. From minimal chic, to fiercely bold, there’s a little something for everyone, so that every woman can feel fabulous! Our range of products varies from pieces having a natural raw aesthetic to being all things bling. No two women are the same; we all have different tastes, so Eurumme offers you semi-precious jewellery for every mood. You don’t always need to be wearing big bold earrings or a bold necklace to make a statement. Simplicity is often just as classy, if not more. At Eurumme, we believe, that there isn’t a woman in the world who wouldn’t want to own a piece of jewellery, be it statement or subtle, so, we provide something for everyone! We launched Eurumme a little over a month ago, and honestly, we couldn’t have asked for a better response! And though we’re off to a good start, the journey ahead is a long, but exciting one - we have miles to go!

House of Trove by Arushi “I have always been intrigued by fashion ever since I was a little kid playing dress up. Then, of course, my family’s textile business only fuelled my interests even more. I have been designing clothes for myself since I was 14 years old. So, it was only natural that I got into designing my own clothing line. We started earlier this year and have been quiet happy with the response so far. House of Trove designs clothes that are evergreen yet modern with a special affection for Indian traditions. A house of trove woman is modern, self affirmed, well travelled yet close to her roots. I think this philosophy is what, that, makes us different from the rest. The clothes are very elegant, look very stylish & modern but are very comfortable & wearable. I am a strong believer of online shopping; it brings the world together in such a beautiful way. Just with the help of Facebook, we have been able to form a customer base in America. As long as you have a strong product and ensure quality standards, you can sustain brilliantly in the online world. Again, there are pros and cons to all things. What’s next: We are now looking at creating our website with an e-commerce platform to help cater to our clients outside Delhi, better. Online shopping is definitely the way forward. The world is shrinking every day. As a jewellery designer, I find that the number of people my label reaches out to online, will always be far more than what it would reach via a retail store. The world is shrinking, and nothing would make me happier than a piece of Eurumme finding its way to some corner of the globe; all thanks to the wonder that is online shopping! TRANSFORMATION

INTERIOR

MATTERS Space Play, an interior designer firm that is a team of two friends, Murtuza and Hussain talk to us about their evolvement with just a simple idea over a cup of coffee.

How did you come up with the idea of Space Play? It was literally over a cup of coffee. A surprise to most people who come to know about us, is that, we never knew we would be working together; designing and transforming spaces, because our fields were miles apart. One of us is a graduate in Interior Design and the other in Mass Communication. However, we both wanted to be in a creative field and this was something we knew we would be great at. Hence, one evening, over a cup of coffee and a secured project, we thought we would call ourselves Space Play. Talk about your team and how many members make Space Play? Right now, it is just the two of us. But, we are hiring interns to work with us so that they can gain a good practical experience in turn for their service to us. What all projects have you worked on until now? We have done a Kids Clothing Store in Mancherial, our first project and later did a Safety Equipment Showroom, an office, couple of flats, residences from grass root level and renovations. We recently did our first government project, a Bar for the College of Air Warfare-Officer’s Mess, Secunderabad and also we have a lot more different types of projects in pipeline. What is your dream project? Our dream project would be something that would be on an international platform, some place that would be renowned for our creativity and design. Give us a brief introduction to Space Play. Started sometime in mid 2014, Space Play is a firm that has been able to deliver very creative designs for different spaces and ensure quality execution. Our aim and vision just does not end there. We envision spaces that are unique yet ergonomic. The idea is to re-define spaces. The focus is on every minor detail while keeping the bigger picture in mind. A lot of effort goes into ensuring that the vision is executed to perfection. While, this is an extremely challenging part of our work, touch wood, till date we have achieved it and we strive to continue in the same manner.

Talk about your individual self, the owner/partners Both of us have grown together and always had similar interests because we pretty much lived the same life. Graduation was when we chose different fields. But, always having the same thought process eventually made us do what we always liked and it was definitely going to be something that gave us a rush and we made a living out of it by using that rush to make it good for someone. Whatever we create, more than the money, the smiles that we put and the appreciation we receive from our clients is what matters to us in the end.

What is the best project of yours till date? We have not done our best project yet, but we were very happy with ‘The Bar’ we did up for the College of Air Warfare-Officer’s Mess, Secunderabad and it was truly an honor to do it for the guys who serve the nation.

What makes Space Play different from the rest? Smart, young, dynamic, creative and passionate. All this put together is something everyone hardly gets to see these days. That definitely makes a huge difference.

Mistakes That Turn Men

Just as certain men’s grooming mistakes make us cringe, think frosty guy lights and overplucked eyebrows. We too sometimes make hair, make-up and skincare choices that guys hate. Listing out the top beauty buzzkills to avoid. FRAGRANCE OVERLOAD Like they say, too much of a good thing is a bad thing. Even if you are just surviving on mist all day don’t take every other wash room break to mist it on. Maybe once when you leave home and once when you are about to leave your car or any place should do perfectly fine for your odour issue. For perfumes, here are the numbers you need to know: no more than three sprays for an eau de parfum, and four for an eau de toilette.

CAKED-ON BASE Painting layers of foundation, tinted moisturizer, concealer and powder on your face will rub off on your collar and his. Stick with a lightweight foundation, remove any obvious makeup with a damp sponge and dab concealer just over blemishes or redness. Men and their dry clean bills will thank you!

OVERDONE EYELASHES When poorly done, the Kardashian effect can turn into the spidery effect. We are talking clumpy and flaky. A few falsies applied to the outer corners make your eyes look wide, innocent and sexy, without looking like they could walk on their own.

DRY SKIN There may be nothing less sexy than dry legs, rough elbows, and chapped everything. Fake hot, humid, summery skin by slathering on body lotion as soon as you step out of the shower. 52 SEPTEMBER, 2015

A SLOPPY SHAVE Nothing says, I have given up as succinctly as leg stubble. Shave at night for the most precise finish (your legs swell as you sleep, so you will miss hair if you shave in the morning) and use a new blade. Doing so, will also help you avoid those annoying red razor bumps.

STICKY LIP GLOSS There are lip glosses that moisturize with a subtle sheen and there are those that are so sticky they could glue together broken glass. Keep your lips kissable with a gloss that lasts for hours and isn’t the least bit sticky.

YELLOW-TINGED TEETH Who wants to kiss someone with graying or yellowing teeth? For a bright, white, healthylooking smile, use a treatment or follow the two time clean-your-teeth regime with flossing. Well of course avoid too much of cola (obviously.)

STIFF HAIR No man is going to be able to run his fingers through your hair if it’s knotted in a bun, pulled into a twist or otherwise high-maintenance-looking. Go for a more approachable hairstyle, like easy waves, half up or a pretty ponytail.

SMOKY-EYE OVERLOAD It starts off innocently enough. It’s just you, an eye-shadow palette and a mirror. But things can get ugly, when heavy, dark shadows are piled on top of each other. Create a subtle, sexy smoky eye by slightly smudging black eyeliner along the rims of your eyes.

BOLD LIPSTICK That one’s too bright, that one’s too dark when it comes to lipstick shades, men are like Goldilocks. And it’s hard to blame them when every kiss carries the risk of becoming a clown face. Keep lips simple with a neutral pink lipstick.

Destinations like Paris

10

Paris is an inimitable city; its grand boulevards shooting off from the Seine like arteries, leading to iconic art galleries, boutique fashion stores, great literary quarters and innumerable fabulous cafes and bistros. If you’re infatuated with its many charms – the culture, the architecture, the food, the coffee, the shopping, the hotels, the views and the romance – then try these ten cultured cities for a shiver of the same pleasure as emanates from France’s fabled capital. Amsterdam, Netherlands

Peaceful, tolerant Amsterdam is known for several of the same qualities as Paris. Its trio of world-class art galleries, while not as iconic as the Louvre, together contain a collection that is just as impressive. The Rijksmuseum hangs renowned Rembrandts alongside works by other Old Masters such as Jan Steen and Jan Vermeer; the Van Gogh Museum has more of the expressionist artist’s paintings than anywhere else in the world; and the Stedelijk Museum shelters a superb collection of modern and contemporary art. Once you’ve soaked up the city’s artistic offerings, you can stroll round the lamplight Canal Ring, then relax in one of the capital’s famous cafés – even if they are famous for rather different reasons than their elegant counterparts in Paris.

Prague, the Czech Republic

Prague is a bit like the Paris of Eastern Europe: artistic, historic and always charming.

54 SEPTEMBER, 2015

Nicknamed the crossroads of Europe, Prague has picked up influences from both east & west and blended them into a beautiful farrago of architecture that enchants people from all over the world. This fairytale skyline rises above the historic Charles Bridge, which was for centuries the only means of crossing the river Vltava, placing Prague at the heart of continental trade up until the 19th century. Crossing the bridge takes travellers from the ninth century Prague Castle into the Old Town, where the blackly gothic Tyn Church vies for attention with the baroque St.Nicholas Church, while both are overshadowed by the alethiometerlike Astronomical Clock. What more? The city is studded with cozy boutique hotels, such as the intimate Cerny Slon (Black Elephant), which make a great base for losing oneself in the historic, cosmopolitan and romantic atmosphere.

Florence, Italy

Europe’s preeminent city for 250 years and the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, you could say that Florence was Paris centuries before Paris became Paris. It was the home of artists such as Michelangelo, writers like Dante and political thinkers such as Machiavelli. This lustrous history of culture, beauty and poise remains etched on its streets today, in statues, sculptures, palaces and churches. Like Paris, there’s no better way to experience Florence than on foot, pausing on bridges and street corners to enjoy the sublime views that suddenly open up. The city streets are packed with small cafés & restaurants, and travellers with fat wallets can find a plethora of fine boutiques and designer shops where the historic and commercial districts meet.

Melbourne, Australia

It’s pretty impossible to beat Paris for the pleasure of spending a day strolling between cafés, but Melbourne tops it on one front at least – the coffee. Australia is the acknowledged king of the current hipster coffee boom, and Melbourne has a sprinkling of fine places to get your fix: drop into Patricia Coffee Brewers on the corner of Little Bourke and Little William streets, or wander along the streets of Prahran Market and just follow your twitching nose. Likewise coffee, Melbourne hosts a fabled food scene, driven by waves of immigration from Greece, Turkey and Lebanon (relatively) nearby Vietnam and Indonesia. The same cultural diversity has helped make Queen Victoria Market a fabulously vibrant Melbourne institutionn; its vaulted halls and colourful stalls selling fish, cheese, second hand books, vintage clothes and so much more.

Vienna, Austria

If Melbourne is spearheading contemporary trends in coffee, then Austria’s cafés were doing the same back in 1683, when the first coffee shop opened in the city, using beans taken from defeated Ottoman invaders. Cake and coffee remains an integral part of life for many in Vienna today, and, the center’s elegant cafés are a very pleasant way to break up strolls along the city’s stately boulevards, shadowed by baroque imperial palaces. Beyond sweet delicacies, Vienna has a cultural heritage to rival Paris: it was the cradle of much of the world’s greatest classical music, a creche for Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Haydn, and the waltz wizard Johann Strauss. Tourists can also explore the glorious MuseumsQuartier, among the world’s largest art complexes, with Old Masters exhibited in the Albertina and more contemporary work displayed in the MUMOK Museum of Modern Art.

TRAVEL Stockholm, Sweden

Coffee and cake continues in Stockholm with fika, a regular afternoon ritual which involves consuming coffee with something sweet while pondering the questions of this existential galaxy with friends. But, Stockholm is a fine place to visit beyond the coffee shops, a city of broad skies and shimmering water spread across a chain of islands, connected by a web of elegant bridges. At its heart is Gamla Stan, the city’s old town with a traceable history back to the Vikings in 1252, although sword-forging blacksmiths have since been displaced by excellent bakeries and waffle shops. And, the city has heaps of good restaurants, some with fabulous views over the city’s backdrop of woods and water – for a terrific all-youcan-eat feast, settle for a few hours by the steamed-up windows of Hermans Vegetarian Buffet.

An aerial look at Stockholm’s Old Town.

Quebec City, Canada

French? Check. European-style architecture? That too.

The capital of French-speaking Quebec is often overshadowed by the effortless style of its neighbour to the south, but Quebec City is actually one of North America’s oldest and most elegant settlements. This is obvious to anyone who’s wandered the city’s beautiful Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that, with its cobblestone streets, 17th century houses and gothic churches, feels disconcertingly like France’s Rouen. And, with the biggest Francophone population of any city outside of the patrie, it’s not surprising to find the city’s squares and boulevards coloured by the awnings of many quaint bistros and cafés. Beyond the Old Town stretch several neighbourhoods with vibrant restaurant, shopping and nightlife scenes.

Buenos Aires, Argentina

“The Paris of South America” is the epithet Argentina’s tourist industry has succeeded in attaching to their country’s vibrant capital. However, skeptical you might be of such a flagrant attempt to attract wealthy gringos, once you step out onto the grand Parisian boulevards criss-crossing its center, you’ll be forced to confess to a striking similarity. From the tango dancers of La Boca to the underground nightlife of San Telmo, through the mouth watering steakhouses found across the different barrios, Buenos Aires undoubtedly has its own very distinct ambience. If you’re hungering for a truly Parisian vibe, however, head to the chic residential district of Palermo, its streets lined with French fashion labels alongside a superb fine dining scene.

Ride in Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class Sports with Sumit & Saloni Agarwal

Sumit Agarwal is an entrepreneur, who is managing his family business of Pharmaceutical finished formulations. He is a person with a creative mind. Whereas, Saloni is a home maker, who is mature, candid and believes in integrity. Sumit loves cars and bikes but he prefers a car over a bike. Saloni was not much into cars until few years back. Having studied in Bangalore, she came across many bikes. They own a Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class Sports; which was purchased last month. “We enjoy the drive. Our daughter, Shatakshi, enjoys panoramic sunroof breeze while it rains. We wish to buy an Aston Martin Vanquish Carbon Edition. The aerodynamics, interiors and exteriors of this car is to die for. Our second dream buy would be the Porsche 911 Carrera, it is a lovely sports car. My new car “The Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class Sports” is Concept Style Coupe. The first thing anyone would notice about this car is its sporty look. Mercedes call it “our best launch in 20 years”. It has a Ferrarilike bucket sports seats. The headlamps feature bi-xenon lighting and neatly arranged LED daytime running lamps. The CLA’s rear is a stunner too which is inspired by the CLS. It’s a look to fall for especially at night. Unlike the Style version, this version has panoramic sunroof, GPS navigation, Harmon-Kardon speakers and Sporty Alloys. Not to forget, the doors are rim-less. It is equipped with twelve Harman Kardon Logic surround sound system with Dolby Digital 5.1 loudspeakers, including a bass speaker”, adds Sumit. SEPTEMBER, 2015 57

WELLBEING

Juicy Chemistry - Your skin’s new best friend Juicy Chemistry was co-founded by Pritesh Asher and his wife Megha Asher in 2014 with a goal to provide effective skin care products formulated with the purest and the most nutrient rich ingredients the nature has to offer. “Skincare should not be complex. It should be as simple as eating healthy. Since the day I started to see the heady list of ingredients at the back of almost any product that we use, Simplifying Skincare was what I wanted to do! “Says pritesh. What types of skin care products do you make? At Juicy Chemistry, we bring together the elements of nature in perfect harmony to craft pure & nutrient rich products. With over 70 variants, ranging from serums, day creams, body butters, scrubs, foot creams, toners, anti-ageing cream, lip butters and scrubs , shampoo bars and 10 gourmet soaps , we provide complete facial care, body care, hand & feet care, and hair care products. What led you to start Juicy Chemistry? “It was sheer happenstance. It all started with a routine Sunday visit to the mall. While pretending to help my Mrs with the chores, I was approached by a sales person with a brand new product launched into the market, claiming that it was all natural. Out of sheer boredom, I struck a conversation with the sales person asking for the ingredients, to which he handed me the product and asked to look at the back for all details. While reading, a few of the ingredients caught my attention as we use them as raw material in our manufacturing processes at our petroleum products plant. I handed the product back to him, and all I could think of was the oxymoron, where the front of the label was screaming natural and organic, the label behind was hushing preservatives, parabens, mineral oils, synthetic colours, perfumes and more. On our way back, I shared the same with Megha, who was genuinely surprised that a product claiming all natural also was loaded with chemicals, but, she just shrugged her shoulders that well this is what is available, Right? We discussed some more and it got us thinking that, there has to be an alternative, a genuine personal care brand that cared!” says Pritesh “We started looking out for pure and natural products but it was all in vain. As we shared our thoughts with family, friends it increasingly became clear that there was either very little awareness about the harsh chemicals present in skincare products and their adverse effects on us or there was no alternative available for consumers to switch to a skin care brand that was truly natural. Either way, there was an obvious gap in the market. “Adds Megha What about skin care making intrigued you enough to turn it into a real business? When we started Juicy Chemistry, the thumb rule was clear, to use simple yet effective ingredients for our formulations. It had to be as simple as eating healthy. We started sourcing ingredients from across the country. The formulations were carefully created with a blend of essential oils, butters, base oils and botanicals, each serving as a powerful nutrient source for our skin. The next few months were spent creating different products and sampling them out to family and friends and incorporating their inputs to attain satisfactory results. “We knew we were on to something. Our products were not just natural but were also delivering the results. The reaction to our products were overwhelming that it made me realize, there is an entire segment in the market that was untapped, and that prospect got me excited about going main stream.” How did you go about making skin care products with all natural ingredients? Was it tough? The first step for us was to find alternatives to replace petroleum and petrochemical based derivatives with natural ingredients. Once we did this, we realized that we would have to compromise shelf life for purity. Given the volatile nature of these natural ingredients, handling and formulation of

ENTERTAINMENT ‘Brothers’ rakes in Rs 52 crore in its opening weekend Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra - starrer ‘Brothers’ has, to some extent, salvaged the box-office, which had slowed down; courtesy the previous week’s releases, ‘Bangistan’ and ‘Jaanisaar’. The sports drama received mixed reviews, but has managed to gross Rs 52.08 crore in its opening weekend. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh says though the film collected only Rs 15.20 crore on day one, it witnessed “excellent growth” on Saturday (Independence Day) — Rs 21.43 crore. However, the numbers fell on Sunday to almost as much as it had garnered on its opening day. Trade expert Amod Mehra explains, “Fortunately, today is a holiday too on account of the Parsi New Year and if the film manages to pull the audience to the theaters, it can reach the safety mark eventually. Being a big budget movie, it has to do a minimum business of Rs 100 crore to be considered a hit.” Industry sources suggest that Brothers, which is made on a budget of nearly Rs 80 crore, is expected to recover Rs 40-45 crore through sale of satellite and music rights as well as overseas business. It is Akshay’s third outing this year after ‘Baby’ and ‘Gabbar Is Back’, which also did reasonably well at the BO.

Sonam Kapoor: Working with Salman Khan - an amazing experience

Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor says re-teaming with superstar Salman Khan in upcoming film “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo” has been an amazing experience. “Working with Salman again after a gap of six years post my debut film ‘Saawariya’ has been amazing and great,” she said. The Bollywood fashionista is in Melbourne to attend the fourth Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) that opened last week. Asked, has her life changed after being in the showbiz for eight years, she said, “I think I am the same but obviously I have been working now for so many years and you get a hang of the job. ”The Indian beauty was the show stopper for the leading designer Anamika Khanna on the second day of the IFFM which was packed by a fashion show and the awards ceremony. Sonam feels fashion is “to be yourself, be comfortable and not to think what other people think”. We as Indian girls have a tendency to really dress for other people, it’s a common Indian thing. You make your mother, your motherin-law, husband or boyfriend happy,” Kapoor said.

Vin Diesel pays tribute to Paul Walker at Teen Choice Awards Cate Blanchett’s ‘Carol’ to premiere at London Film Festival

Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara starrer ‘Carol’ will have its UK premier at BFI London Film Festival. Directed by ‘Far from Heaven’ helmer Todd Haynes the film will be screened on October 14 said The Hollywood Reporter. Adaptation of ‘The Price of Salt’, a lesbian romance by Patricia Highsmith, the film is set in the 1950s and focuses on a woman in her 20s (Mara) who works in a Manhattan department store and meets Carol (Blanchett), who is trapped in a loveless, convenient marriage. “’Carol’ is a deeply romantic, emotionally honest love story and is also cinema at its most intoxicating and immaculate,” said BFI London Film Festival director, Clare Stewart. “We are all extremely proud to be presenting the UK premiere of ‘Carol’ at the BFI London Film Festival, a film adaptation which had its roots in Britain, and a festival which has meant a tremendous amount to me personally over the years,” Haynes said. The BFI London Film Festival 2015 runs from October 7 to 18, 2015. 62 SEPTEMBER, 2015

Walker, who died in November 2013 in a car accident, beat out competition from Ansel Elgort, Dylan O’Brien, Taylor Lautner, Theo James and Diesel to claim the award for his performance in “Furious 7”, reports femalefirst.co.uk. Diesel paid tribute to his friend when he took the stage to accept the surfboard for Choice Movie: Action/ Adventure alongside co-stars Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, and Jordana Brewster, saying: “I can’t stand here and be rewarded like this without talking about somebody very, very, very important to us. “One of the best blessings in our lives was the fact that we had the opportunity to call Pablo our brother. Paul Walker is here in spirit with us.” “Furious 7” also won the Choice Movie: Action/Adventure award. Meanwhile the biggest winners of the night were British pop boy band One Direction, who won eight awards in total, including Male Music Group, Choice Summer Music Group, and Choice Selfie Takers. However, the band - which now consists of Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson - were not at the event at the Galen Centre here in person and were instead forced to accept their awards via video link. Chiranjeevi finally opens up about his 150th film

Chiranjeevi has finally opened up about his 150th film. He hinted that Puri Jagannadh may not direct his landmark movie. “As I have already said we’ve been looking for a good story for my 150th film. I am in no hurry and will not compromise regarding the story. Though I liked Puri Jagannadh’s story, I felt that the second half should have been better. But, as Puri got busy with some other film, the project has been kept on hold. I am going to hear two other stories and if everything goes well, we will start the film in two to three months”, Chiru said. While some have suggested that Anushka would be a better choice as the heroine, some others felt that Tamannaah or Nayanthara would look good beside me. But, we will go with someone after considering my age and the tastes of the audiences. Though I will continue as a politician, right now my focus is only on my 150th film”, the Megastar added.

Serena Williams back on winning track in Cincinnati opener

Serena Williams broke Pironkova’s serve once in each set and then sealed the win in style with her 15th ace of the match. In her final tune-up tournament before the U.S. Open, Serena Williams put herself back on the winning track with a 7-5 6-3 win over Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova in her opening match at the Western & Southern Open. Williams prevailed in 90 minutes and showed none of the rare struggles that dogged her during last week’s semi-final loss to Swiss teenager Belinda Bencic in Toronto. “There’s definitely a lot of pressure … I would like to win the Open, probably more than anyone else,” said Williams. “Whether I do or not, I’m going to try win it this year or next year and just keep going for that. So, it’s not the end of the world.” In other women’s action Romanian third seed Simona Halep beat Frenchwoman Kristina Mladenovic 7-5 5-7 6-4 while Czech seventh seed Lucie Safarova advanced with a 6-4 7-5 win over American wild card Coco Vandeweghe.

Kumar Sangakkara-froid at beginning of the end

Kumar Sangakkara will miss the sport, and the sport will miss him. But, both will move on. There’s a poignant few minutes during every Tamilian wedding where the father of the bride is left to his thoughts while his daughter leaves to change her saree for one final time. And he sits there all by himself, staring into the distance, not wistfully but more anxiously, as if he’s wondering how life is going to be; now that the apple of his eye has moved on. For, upon her return is the part of the ceremony when the knot is tied, and she’s officially married. Kumar Sangakkara had a similarly poignant moment of his own at the P’Sara Oval on Wednesday morning. He had just finished with his first round in the nets, and with the other batsmen still occupying the other ones, he chose a shaded corner, leaned against the metal hoarding stand and he had the same ‘father-of-the-bride’ look of vacuity. He remained there for 15 minutes. Sporting farewells are unique. They’re filled more with separation anxiety than outand-out melancholy. This is not the end of the world. It’s more like the culmination of a lengthy chapter, and the beginning of a new episode in the sportsperson’s life. He will miss the sport, and the sport will miss him. But, both will move on.

MOVIES Movie Reviews Fantastic Four Parents need to know that Fantastic Four (2015) is the latest take on the popular Marvel comic book, coming about 10 years after the last FF adaptation. Unlike the previous version, this one features a much younger version of the heroes and stars four actors with lots of teen appeal: Miles Teller as Reed Richards, Kate Mara as Sue Storm, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm, and Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm. The four main characters work together, sending messages of teamwork and trust. Brothers An overblown, ultra-violent melodrama, Brothers spills a lot of blood and breaks plenty of bones on the way to establishing the primacy of fraternal love. The collateral damage that the film inflicts isn’t confined to the screen alone. Its excesses could drive the more sensitive and discerning of Bollywood pulp lovers off such fare for a spell, if not for good. Brothers is an official remake of the 2011 Hollywood actioner Warrior. As the MMA tournament unfolds along entirely predictable lines, one of the excitable ringside commentators, who are as annoyingly loud as anything else that the film has to offer, hollers that this is “Mahabharat reloaded”, this is epic”. The movie fails to impress the audience overall, and would not be a worthy watch. Srimanthudu A taut script, an engaging story and the fantastic Mahesh Babu– these are the best elements of director Koratala Siva’s film Srimanthudu. Films that deliver social messages are often preachy and loud, but that’s not the case with Srimanthudu. The director tries to educate the viewer without making it seem like a moral science lesson. The film teaches us about family bonds, and love for the native place. This, mixed with superb stunt scenes and some good music, make it a worthy watch. Despite the lengthy run-time, the director succeeds in leaving his audience with a message without boring them. He stresses on the importance of being aware of where you come from, and not taking the comforts of city life for granted. His previous film Mirchi was filled with blood and gore, but Srimanthudu works quite well without it.

FORTUNE

Forecast For

September 2015

- Tarot reading by Nupur Heda

VIRGO

(born August 23 - September 22) You have plenty of responsibilities on your plate now and may be feeling nervous if you are behind in delivering on your promises. Thankfully, your anxiety will begin to fade once you start crossing things off your to-do list. The same chores that seemed overwhelming yesterday are a piece of cake now. Eliminate extraneous activities and concentrate your efforts on where they will have the greatest impact. If you set your mind to something and then apply yourself with unwavering commitment, you can accomplish nearly anything you want. Intention plus hard work equals magic. You can’t help but be nervous about sharing your goals with your associates, but exercising too much hesitation this month could cause you to miss an exciting opportunity. Although making a hasty retreat isn’t necessarily wise now, neither is responding too quickly. Something worthwhile will likely withstand the test of time, so waiting a day or two before making a final decision ultimately works in your favor.

LIBRA

(born September 23 - October 22) Although you have been sitting on the fence for a few days, you’re ready to make a big decision this month. Librans are known for vacillating at times because they’re naturally adept at tempering extreme ideas and finding common grounds. It’s more important to be swift in judgment than to be perfect. Thankfully, you will still have the chance to adjust your trajectory as your perspective continues to evolve. Seize the cosmic moment and embrace your future. You often go out of your way to balance your needs with others since maintaining peace and harmony is the key to your relationship success. You might even choose to keep some of your preferences to yourself because you don’t want to disturb the status quo. You may have a specific destination in mind, yet you’re reluctant to say anything because you don’t have the logistics in place. Do not worry about the details now, just be clear about your objectives with the understanding that satisfaction could still take a while to reach.

SCORPIO

(born October 23 - November 21) You may be recycling around the same thoughts in your mind over and over again, trying to reach a different conclusion. But you probably won’t reveal your inner process because you believe others won’t understand your current plight. Talking about your concerns is not the quickest 78 SEPTEMBER, 2015

route to happiness; you must take direct action now. Fortunately, you will be happily surprised with the support you receive if you simply settle down and channel your angst into your work. Putting in extra effort brings in positive results faster than you expect. Procrastination is no longer a luxury you can afford. You have been reconsidering your long-term goals ever since last month. Even if you’re anticipating the future, it requires you to stop and review your past to better understand your current feelings. Do yourself a favor now; don’t assume the worstcase scenario or that might be what you manifest. Rest assured that your lost confidence will return; it’s just a game of mind over matter.

SAGITTARIUS

(born November 22 - December 21) There are many paths in front of you at this time; but ultimately, it’s up to you to choose one and stick with it. Unfortunately, you might be carrying some unnecessary emotional baggage and pushing through your own resistance is your only viable option now. Luckily, someone may give you a chance to demonstrate a new and improved version of you. However, you must take the initiative by surrounding yourself with open-minded people who can help you process your feelings. Your future shines brightly if you are willing to do the work. You may not want anyone to know that you’re wrestling with your doubts now, but there’s no reason to fake confidence if you aren’t currently feeling it. It’s healthier to show more emotional restraint instead of taking something too far when you are not totally invested. Spontaneity comes naturally to you, but, you benefit this month from some quiet time to reassess your direction.

CAPRICORN

(born December 22 - January 19) Although everyone assumes you’re open to feedback when it comes to your future, your convictions are stronger than anyone realizes now. You are singularly focused on your long-term plans, even if others are telling you to pay attention to the current dynamics. However, you may think that your friends are just making matters worse by distracting you with their opinions. Fortunately, you have the necessary tools to stay on the straight and narrow path and it’s up to you to use them. Keep your eyes on the distant horizon and relentlessly inch your way to success. You might not want to deal with an associate who is emotionally needy, yet, your empathy with someone else’s feelings can open doors to a new level of friendship. It’s worth the struggle now as you try to determine what lines to cross and how much to reveal. However, avoiding your feelings could create unnecessary resistance.

AQUARIUS

(born January 20 - February 18) You may feel as if you didn’t make any progress on the job last month, but thankfully, you get to make up for the loss this month. There’s less resistance now as you push toward your goals, motivating you to raise your level of productivity. Instead of struggling to finish all your work, prioritize your tasks before rolling up your sleeves and getting down to business. Approaching the day in a logical manner maximizes your efforts more than you might think. Your emotions are uncharacteristically intense, even if you don’t want to dwell on them. But any attempt to downplay your feelings creates a different set of problems as someone misinterprets your nonchalance as a sign of disinterest. Don’t hold back now when it comes to expressing your dreams; go out of your way to let the ones you love know how passionately you feel about your future and their place in it.

PISCES

(born February 19 - March 20) Your concerns about your future plans could grow more serious this month, prompting you to make an overdue decision. But every little problem seems to be tied to larger issues and there’s no way to avoid the bigger picture. Bring your shovel and be prepared to dig your way to the bottom, if necessary. There’s no reason to rush the process; it’s your own psychological pressure that creates this false sense of urgency. Slowing down allows you to explore the various alternatives and choose the best route to your long-term success. Fortunately, with realistic approach in the equation this month, you’re committed to getting all the facts right, even if they complicate matters. There’s no need to make any sudden moves. Take a few steps back from the awkward situation and give yourself enough distance to regain an objective perspective. Time is your ally.

ARIES

(born Mar. 21 - April 19) You’re willing to work extra hard this month in order to solidify your recent progress. Nevertheless, it’s nearly impossible to completely override your natural tendency to rush into action. However, your impatience could jeopardize all that you have gained. Maintain a methodical pace and execute the proper follow-through to reach your goals. You don’t have to gamble with your future now if you plan your course of action without expecting to change everything all at once. It may be a bitter pill to swallow at first, but sometimes slow and steady wins the race. You might try a more cautious approach to sharing your feelings, but you could be stressing over the wrong things. Instead of wasting time trying to guess how others will react to your emotional disclosure, just let the cards fall where they may. Your impatience can interfere with whatever stability you have already gained.

TAURUS

(born April 20 - May 20) Your schedule is stretched to the limit this month, yet your relentless drive might prevent you from scaling back your activities. You don’t mind constructive criticism from a friend or partner, but it may seem as

if encouragement is hard to find now. It’s helpful to set firm boundaries if you are encountering resistance from others. Don’t let anyone rain on your parade if you believe it’s your turn to bask in the sunshine. Ultimately, it’s up to you to prove everyone wrong; your actions will speak louder than their words. You have very specific ideas about how your month should unfold but you may not be able to stick to your initial plan if you want to play nicely with others. It’s pointless to push your personal agenda now; you have a lot to learn and plenty to offer by going along with the flow.

TULIP

FORTUNE

GEMINI

(born May 21 - June 20) Although you may still be harboring fantasies about new ways to make money, it’s time to turn your schemes into reality this month. Innovative ideas sound good at first, but now, you must execute a sound business plan to be successful. Thankfully, you can exert more control over your future once you realize the importance of practicing self-discipline. Rather than letting your imagination run wild, concentrate on achieving one worthwhile goal. You can accomplish more than you think once you wholeheartedly commit to focus your mental superpowers in one direction. Willpower is the magic ingredient necessary for your success. Focusing on someone else’s needs is a clever deflection because it allows you to play the role of a supportive friend while also conveniently taking the bright light off of you.

CANCER

(born June 21 - July 22) You can’t afford to drift off into space this month if you have already made prior commitments. Even if you’re having a tough time remaining focused, you can deliver on your current promises when you truly believe your goals are worth pursuing. Avoid the temptation to daydream; it’s more productive to keep yourself grounded in reality so you don’t have to pay the cost later on. Fulfilling your previous obligations now paves the way to your future success. Although acting more spontaneously sounds like a wonderful idea in theory, you might not enjoy the experience if you’re worried about the criticism you could receive for your behavior. You feel emotionally exposed now as if others already know your desires, even if you haven’t uttered a word..

LEO

(born July 23 - August 22) Achieving your objectives requires unwavering determination, but it’s best to downsize your fantasies if you want them to come true. There’s no point in exhausting yourself by aspiring toward unrealistic goals, but that doesn’t mean you should surrender your dreams; in fact, just the opposite. Instead, search for a middle path that allows you to honor your lofty aspirations while taking a pragmatic approach to your success. Balance may be elusive this month, but dogged persistence moves you steadily in the right direction. Fortunately, compromise is possible without giving up what matters most. Your imagination continues to run rampant, however drama is simmering in your real life and you could be pulled into an emotionally charged conversation with a close friend or relative now. Although you prefer to keep your feelings private, you won’t be able to stay out of the spotlight for much longer.
