FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK After a fun filled, rainy and festive August, here we are with the September issue of your very own Tulip Magazine. This festive season is primarily characterized by the end of season sale at all the prominent shopping malls , departmental stores and branded stores, so all you shopaholics must have had a gala time with the retail therapy doing its best by giving you great deals for otherwise expensive branded clothing. I hope you made the best of this end of season sale. I hope and wish that you have enjoyed Independence Day and Eid celebrations. This issue primarily focuses on the evolution of Hyderabad, right from what Hyderabad was at the onset of the Nizam rule to what it is now, the IT hub and a cosmopolitan, housing people from different states of India and yes, from different countries of the world too. We see how Hyderabad has gone through this change from the eyes of people who have lived that era, “been there and done that!” In the campus buzz section, we have our Teacher’s day special. Essentially, what we celebrate as Teacher’s Day (5th September) is the birth date of the second President of India, academic philosopher, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. We pay our tribute to this great man on this day. The relationship that a student shares with his teacher has evolved over the years, it started with that of being, “spare the rod, spoil the child” to a more open, free and communicating relationship. Things have changed, time has changed but the respect that students have for their teachers is still the same. Also, the love that a teacher feels for a student remains pure and unconditional as it used to be in the yester years! We have talked about grooming tips for women in a lot of our previous issues; this issue stands different as we give the “Men of the House” some important tips on personal hygiene and grooming. We also tell the men what’s in, what looks good and the latest fashion in accessories and clothes. In our special bonding feature, we see how love blossoms between Ashu and Vicky, from a strict “no-no” business of falling in love after a 5 min chat, we see how this couple decides to stay in love forever. In our “A Day from your diary” feature, we have the young and talented Tollywood designer Shravya Varma, she tells us about her love for saris, dogs and biryani, a true Hyderabadi at heart! What more could you ask for, she also shares with us secrets that no one knows. I hope you will enjoy reading this issue as always you do. Write to us if you want to give any feedback, if you like our work or simply to say hello! We love hearing from you, our readers. On behalf of the entire Tulip family I wish all our readers a very “Happy Ganesh Chaturthi!”

The ideal Ph for the soap is anything between 5-5.5. This should be used in groin and arm pits. Wash your head with a mild soap having a Ph of 5-5.5. Always dilute the shampoo before applying onto the scalp. After rinsing it thoroughly with soft water, the hair should be dried with a towel and hair dryer should ideally be avoided. However one needs to dry the scalp soon. This can be done by staying under the fan.

Fresh and natural food is the best! For example - fruits, vegetables, especially the leafy greens should be taken in more quantities. Organic vegetables and fruits are the best, rather than the ones cultivated using pesticides and other chemicals. Water is the best hydrant for the body. 2-3 liters of liquids per day are needed by the body in the rainy season. Aerated drinks, sugar filled juices are not advised at all.

Grooming Guide for a Perfect Look For HIM!!

T

he desire to look beautiful and best was openly expressed by the female gender. Males were supposed to be the breadwinners and Females were supposed to look beautiful for their husbands. But of late the importance of the men to look their best has increased considerably. The personality he carries has the highest of preference in the world today. And looks can be one of the major aspects of the personality which defines him. The importance of looks has increased considerably in the past few years. One cannot simply ignore the value of looks and grooming of a person. The society today needs men to be well groomed. It takes a lot of hard work to get that picture-perfect look and well-turned out personality. The power of a dressed man of today, who pays a lot of attention to his looks, just cannot be ignored. Talking to the female grooming expert, Roshan Jahan from Paris de Salon, we get to know a few tips. “I have more male clients for grooming than girls. This shows that guys these days are more particular about their looks as compared to the girls. They are here for all sorts of things; from waxing to pedicure to facials to haircut. It actually is a good thing for today’s men to be so particular. I personally suggest the following tips for men” Step 1: Clean your face It is of no use to apply a cream or a mask if your skin is not clean! Prefer a soap-free, gel or foam cleansing product. These are gentler for your epidermis which can be irritated by shaving. For an optimal result, wet your face with warm water to open your pores in order to purify your skin deeply. Apply the product, massage gently and rinse it with fresh water. Pat the skin dry. Step 2: Apply a moisturizer If you do not moisturize your skin properly after cleansing, exfoliating or shaving, your skin dries and becomes itchy. In order to regulate these effects it is important for you to moisturize your skin after cleansing or shaving. If your skin is greasy, prefer a moisturizing gel. If you have a dry skin, prefer a cream.

ing for. Apply the mask on a clean face. An energizing mask is your best ally. It re-energizes your skin leaving signs of fatigue and stress behind. Apply a thick layer on your face and leave it for 10 minutes. According to the kind of mask you are using, you can remove it either by rinsing, or with a piece of cotton, or like a second skin (peel-off masks). Masks can be used once or twice a week.”

Jay, DJ at Kismet Park “I make sure that I visit the salon at least twice a month and get the regular grooming done. Monthly once, I get my hair trimmed for the perfect look.” Monish, Student “I follow my daily regime of maintenance, starting from the face wash to shaving and moisturizing, till the time I am perfectly dressed to step out. The last thing to do is applying the sunscreen and my favorite deodorant.”

Step 3: Scrub your skin A scrub is used to detoxify and tone your skin. It is recommended to scrub your skin before the application of a facial mask. This will enhance the performance of the mask’s active ingredients. A face scrub can be used the same way as a face cleanser. Be careful not to use the scrub more than twice a week. Step 4: Apply a mask Masks help in bringing the active ingredients your skin needs to look and feel healthy. In order to get the most out of your mask, use the one that is made for your skin type or to the type of benefit you are search20 SEPTEMBER, 2012

Be Happy To Look Beautiful

We always, and everywhere, try to be beautiful, and the process of becoming beautiful and looking good is so rapid that what we become is just an outward us. Least do we realize that we would look the way we are, and an expression on our face is actually the reflection of what we are from within. We can camouflage the exterior, but what can we do to the interior. Our goodness or badness, love or hatred, all shows somewhere here or somewhere there on our bodies. If we are good from within, our face reflects a mesmerizing state of goodness; if we are not, we clearly show it through our expressions. You can choose to be beautiful and let our beauty tips put roses in your cheeks and lightness in your step. Dr. Virinchi Sharma, Practicing in the field of psychiatry, M.D. Manasa hospital tells us what he feels about inner beauty and what is it all about. “Inner beauty is a blend of tranquil thoughts personality and soul. Inner beauty lies in the temple called “mind”. Mind is the element of a person which enables them to be aware of the world and their experiences. The importance of coordination between mind speech and behaviour has been highlighted by many famous psychiatrists .An unhealthy mind leads to irrelevant speech and an antisocial behaviour. The subtle part of the brain is the neuro chemical and the equilibrium of these chemicals reflects a happy mind. “These Neuro chemicals when are altered from their normal range leads to problems like Low mood, loss of interest, memory problem, sleeplessness, phobia/fears, Loss of appetite.

“Inner beauty is a blend of tranquil thoughts personality and soul. Inner beauty lies in the temple called “mind”. Hence we realize that keeping our mind healthy is as important as keeping our body healthy. We do notice that when we are happy everyone knows it by just looking at our face. This is because ‘Face is the index of mind’. In disorders of mind we do observe changes in the face of a person like in depression we see frowning in the face in stress disorders we see wrinkling on the face. Some tips for a healthy mind are better sleep, cutting down on unnecessary stress, involvement in pleasurable activities like reading a book or playing a sport or listening to music, creating a peaceful and a positive environment at home and at work place, complete abstinence from substances which alter the brain functioning like alcohol-tobacco- caffeine, Involvement in spiritual activities and spending time with loved ones. One should feel free to discuss their problems with your psychiatrist. Hence for the society to function better, for the evolution to occur in a positive fashion and the mankind to reach higher goals we require an ideal person. Ideality comes with the” Inner beauty”. May the ideal person be you! SEPTEMBER, 2012 21

Design Your Dream

A

nisha was on a vacation in Mumbai with her kids when she saw her nephew learning art of paper quilling, she was so fascinated with the designs and outcome that she picked up a kit and decided to give it a try once she is back. After coming back the kit was just lying as she never really got the time. Few months back while she was cleaning her house she found the kit and gave quilling a try. Now it’s almost three months that anisha is doing paper curling and she specialises in making faces of Gods which is very unique compared to other paintings done by paper quilling. Paper quilling or paper filigree is the art of rolling thin strips of paper into different shapes and using the shapes to form designs. Quilling has been around since the European history. She started with designing envelopes and paper bag and showed it to her friends and cousins, it was her cousin Sapna who appreciated as well as encouraged her to design more and now there is no looking back. It requires lot of hard work as well as patience. As for anisha it’s her hobby and she donates each and every penny she earns in charity. est friends Shreena and Milcah are pursuing bachelor of management studies from St. Francis college, Begumpet. Shreena always found interest in fashion styling and designing while Milcah is into entrepreneurial activity. They had lots of free time at hand in the second year of their studies and they wanted to make productive use of the time. A Day From Shravya Varma’s Diary..

TULIP

LIFESTYLE I am a morning person. I am either working on some designs or sweating out. I do not go to the gym but instead I keep taking different classes from time to time to keep it interesting. I have a kick boxing class and also gymnastics, both are really challenging and am always occupied with my fitness schedule during the first half of the day. 1 cup of coffee early in the morning is a must along with a proper south Indian breakfast. However when I have work on my hand, there is no time for workout nor breakfast.

Juggling between being a student and a designer, I can’t quiet stick to a routine. When I am working I usually have to be on sets as early as 6 or 7 in the morning to set up and check on the look that my actor (client) is going to wear. I am at the location the whole day until the shoot finishes. There are days where we pack up early but most of the time it goes on till wee hours.Shooting for movies as well as commercial shoots is really tiring as we have to finish the shoot in time with multiple models and actors.

There is hardly any time for lunch and most of the days I end up skipping it, but whenever I get a chance I grab a bit or two of a sub or burger. Most of the time you will find me from tailors to shopping malls to sets and locations. 10 Downing is my favorite place and whenever I am free I have lunch there with my close friends.

OVERCOME PROFESSIONAL HURDLES Well, so far I loved working every bit and every, everything has been a learning experience for me. I have started off by styling for commercial hoarding shoots and today I am working as a chief designer for a full fledged tollywood movie. It was really difficult in the start with all the competition, but now I am very confident about my work and I made it very clear that I am here and I am here to stay. The biggest challenge for me in this profession is to meet the time limit. I barely get a day or 2 to finish about 4 to 5 looks. I had a lot of pressure initially, the entire shoot along with 300 people gets stand still if I don’t deliver cloths on time but it’s true that a person works best under pressure and so far I have been doing pretty ok, I have a very understanding crew. 24 SEPTEMBER, 2012

FAVORITE ENSEMBLE I love saris and half saris personally. It is not only traditional but also very sexy. The drape brings out the curves of a woman. Then again now we have 200 different ways of draping it these days. However, it’s not too comfortable to wear on an everyday basis, which is the only draw back. Speaking of which, shorts are the most comfortable piece of apparel ever made.

My evenings end up with my close friends. We drive around the city aimlessly. We go bowling or karaoke’s or catch a movie. Neither I nor any of my friends are much of the party going type. So my evenings are usually quiet. I have my dance classes in the evenings so I am occupied most of the week with that. If nothing works out I call for a pizza and chill on my terrace with friends. Sometimes we end up playing Table tennis or badminton.

LIFESTYLE

Most influential person in your life -

Manish Arora – I am a huge fan of his work and his style. Just reading about him on the internet boosts my confidence and I work ten times harder to reach his level even if it takes twenty years from now. If not a designer, what would you have taken up as your profession -

I wanted to be a travel host or an air hostess so that I could visit a lot of places. On a much more serious note if I was not in this industry I would have tried to be a sports person much like my friends Ashwini Ponappa and Tarun Kona. I envy both of them for traveling so much and representing our country at National level. I am very proud of them so I would have loved to be in their shoes. Three things you always carry before leaving home -

Phone, wallet and car keys – everything else I need is in my car. Your idea of pastime -

I usually drive or go shopping. More of an activity person so I prefer to go for a swim or play a sport or visit a new place depending on how much time there is to pass. Your idea of a perfect date -

I may not sound so cool right now but I should admit that I am much of a street shopper to be very honest not in Hyderabad but from Mumbai and Delhi, I love shopping from the streets and you will be amazed at the stuff that we can find. I love shopping for accessories and clothes from forever 21, accessorize and Zara. I am currently obsessing over the cosmetics from Mac and Dior. I am shopping online quite more often then I used to off late since Hyderabad has very limited shopping options for shopaholics.

It’s all about the person in my opinion. I would prefer having fast food with an interesting guy rather than having a fancy date with a boring guy. So my idea of a perfect date need not be dreamy and by the beach although it could be a bonus. Best childhood memory -

My childhood friend Rikshita and I spent some amazing time having cold coffees, cycling around and getting into trouble. That time is my single most precious memory of my childhood. Favorite cuisine and why -

I am a hard core hyderabadi so the Biryani is an all time favorite. Other then that I love Italian. I enjoy multi cuisine buffets since I get to experiment. Best lesson life taught you -

I have learnt to be patient, rooted to the ground and to be detached.

History of Hyderabad is inextricably linked with the rise and fall of various kingdoms, Qutb Shahi to Asaf Jahi (Nizams), which flourished in the Deccan region during the medieval and modern times. It was the famous Qutb Shahi’s rule that opened a glorious chapter in the chronicles of Hyderabad.

Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, a ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, was the founder of Hyderabad City. In the year 1591, when the Moon was in the constellation of Leo, Jupiter in its own abode and all celestial planets favourably placed, he laid the foundation of a new city which he called Bhagyanagar after his beloved queen ‘Bhagmati’. Bhagmati embraced Islam and took the name Hyder Mahal and consequently Bhagynagar was renamed Hyderabad after her. The Qutb Shahi Kings were rulers between 1518 and 1687. As the monuments of their time reveal, they were great builders, lovers of architecture and patrons of learning. The greatest and the most popular edifice of the time is the Charminar. Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, fifth ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, inherited a rich legacy – a prosperous and large kingdom with the densely populated capital of Golconda. Fall of Qutub Shahi and the rise of Asaf Jahis On September 22, 1687, Golconda was conquered by Aurangzeb and became a part of the six Mughal provinces in the Deccan. Though Aurangzeb tried to consolidate his authority over Hyderabad, the city began to lose its importance. The final nail was struck when the capital of the new province was shifted from Hyderabad to Aurangabad, which became the new headquarters of the 28 SEPTEMBER, JULY, 2012 2012

Mughals in the Deccan.

Aurangzeb’s only contribution to the city was the completion of the Mecca Masjid in 1693.

In 1713, the Mughal Emperor, Farruksiyar, appointed a twenty six year old warrior Qamaruddin as the new Governor of Deccan. Qamruddin was the grandson of Chin Qilij Khan, Aurangzeb’s brave commander who lost his life during the siege of Golconda. The young Governor proved to be an able administrator and earned the title of Nizam-ul-Mulk or the Governor of the Kingdom.

In 1763, after a gap of nearly seventy six years Hyderabad regained its lost glory when Nizam Ali Khan, the second Asaf Jahi ruler moved the capital back from Aurangabad to Hyderabad. The family of the Asaf Jah (Nizams) of Hyderabad is one of the most illustrious that ever came to India. The Asaf Jahi dynasty, familiar to all the by title of its representative-the-Nizam-owes its origin to Mir Qamaruddin Chin Qilij Khan, better known as Asaf Jahi.

FEATURE Osman Ali Khan Bahadur Fateh Jung, His Exalted Highness (the British conferred this upon him), also named Fath Jang Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan Asif Jah VII was born in Hyderabad at Purani Haveli, the second son of Mir Mahboob Ali Khan (Asaf Jah VI), Nizam of Hyderabad, by his first wife Amat-uz-Zahrunnisa Begum. He was the last Nizam (or Ruler) of the PRINCELY STATE of HYDERABAD in southern India. He ruled Hyderabad between 1911 and 1948, when it was merged with the dominion of India. During his days as Nizam, he was reputed to be the richest man in the world, even featuring on the cover of TIME magazine, portrayed as such.

to collect taxes. All princely states large and small agreed to join the Union of India, except Hyderabad. In June 1947, the Nizam issued a Firman or a proclamation declaring independence from the Indian Union. On the 15th of August 1947, India attained independence from the British, but Hyderabad stood defiant as an independent state. On 29th November 1947, the Nizam signed a ‘standstill agreement’ with the Indian Union for a period of one year. In the months following the signing of the Standstill Agreement, suspicion and misgivings between the Nizam and the Indian government grew. Relations between the two were far from amicable. Led by the zealous Kasim Razvi, the Razakars compelled the Nizam to maintain his independence and not relent to pressure from the Indian government. Claiming his right to remain independent in accordance with the Indian Independence Act, the Nizam declared Hyderabad a free, self-governing independent state but the Government of India refused to accept his point of view.

Asaf Jahi dynasty ruled the state of Hyderabad for seven generations (A.D. 1724 - 1948) establishing it as the largest and foremost Muslim princely state in India. Hyderabad’s existence and development was intrinsically linked to the rule of the Asaf Jahi dynasty and their contributions were foundational to not only the States but the Deccan’s social, economic and cultural milieu.

On the 10th of July 1947, the ‘Declaration of the Indian Independence’ bill was introduced by Harold Macmillan. To the Nizam’s dismay, no mention or decision was taken regarding the state of Hyderabad. All princely states were given the option to either join India, Pakistan or remain independent. All states that would join the Indian Union would have to surrender their sovereignty and their right

Sardar Vallabhai Patel, the deputy Prime Minister of India insisted that the state had to merge with the Indian union and to further tighten the noose, an economic blockade was imposed on Hyderabad. On the 10th of September 1948, the Nizam sent Nawab Moin Nawaz Jung to the Security Council to represent Hyderabad’s case before the United Nations. This was the last straw. All channels of communication were severed and the Government of India contemplated military action against the defiant state. On the 13th of September 1948, the Indian Army initiated its Police Action Against Hyderabad. Five days later, on the 18th of September, 1948, the Indian army entered Secunderabad Cantonment. Military rule was imposed. A reluctant Hyderabad finally merged with the Union of India. SEPTEMBER, 2012 29

The Charminar is a square edifice with four grand arches each facing a cardinal point that open into four streets. At each corner stands an exquisitely shaped minaret, with a double balcony. A beautiful mosque is located at the western end of the open roof and the remaining part of the roof served as a court during the Qutub Shahi times. The space in the upper floor between the minarets was meant for Friday prayers.

For a smooth transition and to placate the sentiments of the hurt Hyderabadis, the Government of India considered it prudent to appoint Osman Ali Khan as the Rajpramukh of Hyderabad state, a position that he held from 26th January 1950 to 31st October 1956. Mir Osman Ali Khan withdrew completely from public life and choose to lead a quiet, secluded life with his family. He had wisely formed a number of trusts that took care of

his family’s need and funded his various charitable institutions. In 1967 Osman Ali Khan passed away. Democracy had the whole world in its grip and how long could Hyderabad stay unaffected? The boundary of this region in the Deccan was redrawn on linguisticconsiderations. The Marathi speaking areas merged with Maharashtra, the Kannada speaking region with Karnataka and on 1st November 1956, the Telugu speaking areas along the region formerly known as Andhra formed the new

state of Andhra Pradesh with Hyderabad as its capital. In 1967 Osman Ali Khan passed away and his eldest grandson, Mukarram Jah, became the new Nizam - a designation that had no meaning, no duties and no responsibilities any more. Thus an era became history and a Asaf Jahi dynasty spanning seven generations faded into the twilight leaving behind an indelible print on the sand of time.

Nawab Gaziuddin Nawab Gaziuddin is the grandson of Sir Asman Jah Bahadur, who was a noble man belonging to the Paigah family. He was the Prime Minister of Hyderabad state (1887– 1894). Nawab Gaziuddin’s early childhood was spent in saroor nagar palace.

Hyderabad has changed so much in the span of 50 years; I still remember my good old days, carefree attitude. Playing out-door in the sun for hours with friends enjoying lunch and dinner with family members, it’s all gone now. Kids prefer indoor games; watch television for hours, sleep late night and the list goes on. Hardly anyone was seen, the population was far very less. Charminar area was the only shopping market. There was a sweet shop named Meghraj near Charminar where I along with some friends use to go for eating “Malai”. We had a culture of joint family where after god it was the elders of the house. Chowmahallah palace area was very lively at that time, I used to go and buy fruits from there, very limited items were available in the market. Now Hyderabad has progressed so much, IT sector is on a boom. A lot of malls and shopping areas have developed. Everything is just a click away. So much has changed now that

I at times find it difficult to believe that it’s the same city. Along with growth there are certain drawbacks also; people don’t prefer to live in joint families now. The younger generation doesn’t like to take advice from their elders. I wish they could understand the importance of time and life. They should take social responsibility and maintain the name and dignity of their family.

Hyderabad was clean and there were only single storied buildings. Every evening at 4, Nizam Sarkar used to visit the Mazhar. His total route from King Koti was sprinkled with water and brushed. It was called - Sarkar ki Sawari. The entire route was closed till his convoy passed. Hard pulling rickshaws and cycle rickshaws were the only means. Most of the public was using their own transport - walking. Cycles and motor cycles were a luxury! Hardly any house had radios or telephones. Abids

From power dress to party styles Tulip presents coolest styles and hottest looks sported by Hyderabad guys. Gaurav Singh - Young Entrepreneur- On Casual Wear I like to carry the boy next door look. I like casual and trendy clothes and love wearing metro-sexual colours like pinks and yellows. I don’t shy off wearing any colour. But then I try to wear solid colors. Printed shirts and tshirts are a complete no for me. I wear light coloured denims for the day and dark for the night. Also I love wearing short and round necked caption t-shirt .Simple is how I like to keep my style.

Vishal Maheshwari - Charted Accountant at Ernst and Young- On Friday dressing Through the week from Monday to Thursday I am into power dressing, shirts and trousers and ties on occasions which require me to carry them. Friday gives me something different than the rest of the 4 days, it gives me a sense of freedom. Friday dressing is like blending and balancing of personal life with professional life. I love wearing khakis on Friday and team them with half sleeve shirts, collared tshirts and checked t-shirts. I team my khakis with colours like pink and blue or even white and a brown belt and brown shoes. I like to keep my Friday look conservative yet tasteful. Monday to Friday you’re working throughout the week, this doesn’t leave you an excuse for not being stylish. The man who takes care of his suits and shirts always looks good. Although vast majorities of men’s shirt are solid whites or blues, a man with an understanding of his complexion and what compliments him must open himself to a wider range of colours and designs .Lavender, pinks, pastel greens and blues and an endless variety of stripped and check patterns are available. But do avoid large checks, loud colours and printed shirts for the office. As for trousers, a good trouser defines the characteristic of a man’s outfit. Trousers are trickily plagued by an overabundance of terms and names and it is surprisingly difficult to find a comfortable fit. The trousers should 36 SEPTEMBER, 2012

Rohit Bajaj –Entrepreneur- On Formal Wear As I spend almost all week in the office I have a wide range of formal wears. I like to wear light colours for the day like blues and whites, usually I prefer solid colours and sometime I wear stripes. I like colours but very light ones; if I am wearing a colour like yellow then I keep it subtle by wearing it as a white and yellow striped shirt. I usually wear black or brown trousers. As I wear a turban. I match it with my accessories like belt and shoes and not with my shirts as I feel it looks over the board if matched with clothes. Crisp and sleek is how I like my formal office style to be.

Gavin Joseph- Owner S.V Caterers - On Party wear My style is simple and English with less colours. When I dress up, I walk into my wardrobe with nothing specific in mind and choose just what catches my eyes. I play contrast over the shirts I wear, nice dark shade blue denim over my tshirt or shirts. I love wearing loafers so I team up my entire look with my loafers. And the thing that defines my style are good brands. I love wearing the best and quality brands. I am too much into brands.

present a smooth and unbroken path as far as possible on the wearer’s body; they should be able to retain their self, whether the wearer is moving, stationery, seated or standing. Also men carry certain necessities with them in their trouser pockets like wallet, keys, business card holder etc. One must see to it, this doesn’t look very bulky or it will spoil the crisp look required to be carried in a formal wear. The one thing that the stylish corporate officials look forward to during the weekdays is Friday dressing. Friday is that day when you can afford to be cool and casual at work but yet retain the essential touch of professionalism. Friday dressing is about being yourself at work and expressing yourself with the clothes that you are comfortable with. It’s about being different from the rest and yet keeping it a little formal.

Once the weekday and work is done, the men are ready to flaunt their casual and party wear. Casual doesn’t need to go over the board .You could just wear casual polo- shirts round necks and checked shirts for your weekend, team it with a light coloured jeans and you’re ready to hit the coffee shop. Also you can try the latest coloured denims which are in vogue everywhere, but team them with basic colours like white or black, you don’t want to look like fruit cake. You can also wear captioned t-shirt or cartoon

TULIP

Most companies do not allow jeans and denims on Fridays so lightweight pants and khakis would be the right choice. A pair of lightweight pants is the way to go. A pair of beige or khaki pants will feel lightweight, comfortable and breathable, and are perfect to wear at work. You could team it up with polo- shirts, checked shirts in brighter colours or even a white shirt, almost anything will compliment your khaki trousers, Rather than putting on your long sleeve button down , wearing a short sleeve one maintains the same amount of class, while reducing the amount of discomfort. And you can team it up with brown loafers or shoes. But never make your Friday wear too casual, always maintain the professional touch to your Friday attire.

Party animals come alive at night, reviving their energies on the dance floor. Most men are worried about what could be the right way to dress here. For a night out in the town, firstly choose something comfortable, and avoid any kind of formal wear. The first thought that comes to anyone’s mind when we think of pants or jeans, it’s jeans of course, they are more relaxing and comfortable, pair them with a contrasting shirt or t-shirt. When it comes to shirts, short slim fits are the best, solid colours work well, but one with a glossy effect provides an edge at the nightclub. Make sure you don’t make it too shiny or shimmery though. As for the feet, loafers look great, and for a classy feel you could wear dress shoes. Go with a bolder look at a party, without overdoing and ensuring the level of comfort. Carry your own style. Hit the city with the look that suits you the best. Have fun and stay stylish!!

Wedding What makes a wedding memorable? What does it take to make a wedding memorable? It has to be a splendid balance of impeccable décor, pleasing aura, beautiful wedding-trees, aisle runners, flowers, great food of course and many others. A creative mind is needed finally, to amalgamate these elements in an order which delights every guest. Everything has to be as beautiful and grand as possible. We would leave no stones unturned to make sure that every minute detail is taken care of to make it a memorable event. Here we state below the vital ingredients which combine and make any royal nuptial, an occasion to remember for a long time to come… INVEST IN THE RIGHT PURPOSE…

That’s right, people! Marriage happens only once, but the memory remains afresh forever. Families don’t mind spending more money than ever on their son or daughter’s big day. For a lot of people, it’s a matter of priorities, as it should be – they have thought things through and the idea of a big wedding and all that goes with it (fun times with family, a great party and so on) are worth it. The experience of the perfect wedding is worth more than the alternatives of where they can spend that money.

THE WEDDING HOUSE

The house of the bride and groom is always lively with relatives and friends flooded in, overnight stays are done, the preparations for wedding are in progress in the house. Food and sweets are always served in the 38 SEPTEMBER, 2012

I really love weddings, the decorations and the feeling of attending it, the way bride and groom are dressed up is outstanding. Lavish spread of cuisine, chats and desserts are my favorite part. Finally you get to meet all your friends and as relatives at a wedding. Komal Sihotia, Student house, and people have fun. The house is lit up with lights and decorated with flowers. It’s a moment of a lifetime.

CAKE THAT MATTERS

Wedding cakes are always remembered and you will want it to be an extension of yourself at the wedding. As a tradition, the cake is your gesture to the guests showing your appreciation for their attendance and a way of offering the blessings of your union to everyone. Pick a design for cake that you’ll look back and remember fondly as something that represented you and your life-partner and the special day you shared together.

ADDING LIFE TO THE EVENT (Décor)

A well-done décor spices up the occasion and to light up the day. A lot of people always want to involve them to make sure it is really perfect. Décor is not just a thoughtful colour scheme and carefully arranged

Mantra flowers; it creates and sets the stage for any event. What would a play be without the sets and backdrops? It would be bland and boring with no visual interest. The same holds true for an event. The event is your play and it needs the sets and backdrops to set the stage, create the atmosphere and stimulate and energize the guests. Important elements of décor and ambience include – colour scheme, lighting, special effects, flowers, aisle runners, table number placards, table linens and décor, chair coverings, centerpieces, signage, party favours and many others (depending also on the personal preferences). With any wed-

ding it is often the reception which will require the most planning and attention to detail. Your wedding reception will be the biggest party you will ever organize and as such it is important that your wedding reception decoration is perfect. Venue’s can often be the deciding factor when it comes to how your reception will look. When thinking about your decoration you need to take into account several factors including – style of the wedding, wedding theme, budget and venue.

FOOD AND THOUGHT

Wedding is incomplete without a grand gastronomical feast! Food, along with music, dance and merriment plays a huge role in the great Indian wedding. It can be a grueling task picking and choosing the food that you wish to serve. It’s important to know in prior the likes and preferences of guests (whether they are vegans or they do no mind indulging in non-vegetarian). You can get wildly creative with desserts in particular. A small section of the buffet table can be dedicated to desserts if you like. Go crazy with desserts like tiramisu, cheesecakes and fresh fruit mousses. It just requires a good amount of thought, and the assistance of a good wedding planner. After all, no one knows your guests better than you and your spouse to be.

It’s a fascinating tour of life, begins with a lot of celebrations rituals n the most special bond between 2 people. Not just a bond between the couple but a new relation between the 2 families. With each passing day I explore learn and experience the new things marriage has to offer me. -Harshit, Dentist

It was an absolute “no-no” business from both Ashu’s n Vicky’s sides before they met for the sake of their parents, and a supposedly 5-10 minutes chat, turned out to be a happy ever after! Ashu- I was in the final year of my degree program and was 21 when I met Vicky. It all started when one of my aunt who happened to be a close friend of Vicky’s aunt too and who was on a lookout for a Punjabi girl, got to know about me. At that time I was staying with my maternal grandparents in Punjab and my parents were in Delhi. I was called back home to my parents place for a ‘so – called’ family get 46 SEPTEMBER, 2012

together. Little did I know that a surprise or rather a shock was awaiting me with a marriage proposal on the cards! I wasn’t ready for the marriage at all but decided to take it very sportily, just to experience it. They came to my place in Delhi. Vicky and I were supposed to talk to each other for a while. Those few minutes turned into an hour, from an hour to two and the best part, we dint realize it till we heard a knock

on the door and were asked to come out. I was talking more about my friends, college life, things we did at our college ‘the masti’ etc. In the very beginning we made it clear to each other that neither of us was ready for marriage, so we exchanged our numbers and ended up on a note to be friends. With this in mind they left the home, just to return in half an hour for a ‘roka’ ceremony. It came to me as an utter

Vicky - We had our family business in Hyderabad and I was working to grow in my business when my parents asked me to settle down and settling down in those days meant an indication to marry a girl they had selected. After short listing not 1 but 4 girls they decided that it was time for me to come and decide on 1. And I was called to Delhi. It was in the year 1993, the month was June and it was a Sunday. From both the sides, marriage was not on the cards. I was talking all about my business, what is it that we do, my job profile in my family business etc. (As I had already crossed my college days with an engineering degree in hand). Though, we had no intentions of marrying, but yes, we did talk about the elements required for a successful marriage. After meeting Ashu, we were supposed to meet the other three girls shortlisted by my parents but I was not at all up for it and that is when I made up my mind to finalize her, I actually felt I could spend my life with her. The very next moment we were at the P.C.O (as there were no mobile phones that time) to inform Ashu’s family that we will be back in half an hour for a ceremony of ‘roka’.

Vicky - Initially we were staying as a joint family and we both loved it, but our parents insisted us to live our lives independently so we bought this house and ever since then, we live here. With 18 years of marriage, of course there have been times when we need to be really patient and compromise to make our relation stronger. TWO WHEELS HARLEY DAVIDSON STREET BOB

Stripped down to bare essentials and as naked as law allows, the Dyna FXDB Street Bob is as pure a cruiser bike as can get. Ever since it was introduced in the market, the bike has been the personification of an attitude-laden motorcycle that has redefined the way custom bikes are looked at. In terms of its design, the Dyna FXDB Street Bob is true to its bobber roots, featuring - a redesigned solo seat, a chopped rear fender without support covers, a top triple clamp with an integrated riser, a wrinkle-back low-profile tank console with an electronic speedometer, a retro-style LED tail light, a Street Bob air-cleaner trim ring, a stainless steel, internally-wired mini ape-hanger handlebar, a wrinkle-black battery box and belt guard and Black Steel Laced wheels with Michelin Scorcher tires. The Street Bob, is powered by a rubber-mounted 1584cc Twin Cam 96 V-Twin engine with an Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI), rated at 92 lb/ft of torque and mated to a six-speed Cruise Drive transmission. What’s important to know about this bike is that, despite having lived in a bygone era, the bike still stands tall in today’s market as one of the best cruiser bikes in HarleyDavidson’s fold. Back when the bobber scene was in full effect, bike makers like Harley-Davidson were churning out one awesome bike after another. But even if those days are long gone, Harley is keeping the spirit alive with a bike like the Dyna FXDB Street Bob.

BMW R1250GS BMW R1250GS, has been spied during testing, showing many upgrades over the current R1200GS. The clearest evidence that the bike is water-cooled comes from the position of the exhaust port, which is now at the base of the motor. This would be impossible with an air-cooled engine, because the exhaust valves would get too hot. With an aircooled motor they need to be at the front of the motor to get maximum benefit from the airflow. The single-sided swing arm has changed sides with the exhaust system now running down the right of the bike. The bodywork is familiar in terms of the overall styling but again has been given a complete overhaul. While the design of the BMW R1250GS looks to be more of a refreshing of the current R1200GS, immediately apparent are the LED running light and other modern features that have become standard in the class. The motor is obviously brand new and the cylinder heads look to sit higher on the bike than previously on the older GS. Also different on the new engine is the orientation of the cylinder heads. Now rotated 90 degrees forward, throttle bodies are situated above the combustion chambers while the exhaust exits from underneath the cylinder heads instead of from the front. We predict exhaust shields to be among the first of the aftermarket accessories to be offered. Front braking is enhanced with the use of radial-mount front brake calipers. ABS will be standard equipment, as evidenced by the wheel-speed ring on the front wheel, which will undoubtedly play a role in a new tractioncontrol system. We also expect an updated form of BMW’s ESA electronic suspension adjustment. 48 SEPTEMBER, 2012

MOTOGUZZI V7 The new Moto Guzzi V7 Special has the style of the Seventies but with the ride quality of today. Moto Guzzi, had a head start when it introduced the retro-styled V7. That’s because the small block, air-cooled V-twin engine was a direct and surprisingly little-changed descendant of the V50 that appeared in the late Seventies, itself a product of Guzzi engineer Lino Tonti, who also worked on the V7 Sport Telaio Rosso, Guzzi’s early Seventies superbike inspired the style of the current V7. The wide spread of torque and responsive engine compensated for only 42bhp, but for 2012 the V7 has had a major makeover which includes a significant power hike. New cylinder heads and pistons are matched to a car-type single, central throttle body feeding each cylinder, the engine management has been refined and the cylinder cooling fins restyled with a more rounded, period look. The result is a 12 per cent increase in power to 50bhp – more than the W800, though still 17 bhp short of the Bonneville – and a major increase in the amount and spread of low-rev torque. Guzzi says that although the maximum is quoted at 2,800 rpm there might be more below that figure but its dyno doesn’t measure at any lower revs. Another useful improvement is in fuel economy. The V7, was always good but the new version is 10 per cent better, according to Guzzi, which claims 64 mpg in mixed riding. As the fuel tank is a gallon larger than before at 4.8 gallons, that should mean a range of more than 300 miles. The V7 Racer, is an ode to the original red-frame V7 Sport Telaio Rosso, housing its legendary 90-degree V-twin engine inside the frame, a creation of famed engine designer Giulio Cesare Carcano. It harkens back to the days when racing wasn’t about fully-padded spacesuits and leaning so low that your knees touch the ground. It’s a throwback, and design-minded riders are certainly going to love this bike. It’s flat-out beautiful. SEPTEMBER, 2012 49

Embedded into the bracelet’s face, the Fuel Band has 20 LED lights which indicates how close you are to achieving your daily fuel goal. There are also 100 white LEDs which spell out your total steps taken, calories burned and your fuel number for the day. By design and logically, the information resets everyday at 12 am, since the goals are designed around a single day. Unlike many of today’s smart phones and similar products, the Fuel Band doesn’t use a micro or mini USB port. Instead the clasp doubles as a USB plug, though Nike includes a cord for those using a desktop or who aren’t comfortable plugging the band directly into their computer’s USB port. Once plugged in, you’ll need to head to Nikeplus.com/ setup, where you’ll be prompted to download the accompanying software. Once installed, you’ll be walked through a quick setup process where upon you’ll enter your age, height, weight as well as your desired daily fuel goal. You can later customize the Fuel number to whatever you’d like, but Nike offers three presets - 2000 (normal), 3000 (active day) and 5000 (high-energy day). If you’ve got a Nike account, you can login immediately or sign up. After that, you’ll just need to charge your Fuel Band to full, which takes about 3-4 hours and you’ll be off and exercising.

SAMSUNG S PEBBLE

Announced alongside the Samsung Galaxy S III, the Samsung S Pebble is a small accessory MP3 player to accompany your phone. The idea, it seems, is to give you the option of extracting a few tracks from your phone so you can take them with you on the go. Okay, so your phone is also very portable, but the S Pebble is designed for those mobile moments when you don’t want to take your phone. The S Pebble has a 4GB capacity for you to fill with music but the clever thing is that you can plug it straight into your phone with the right cable and transfer songs across directly. You can use a computer in the conventional fashion if you prefer, with both cables coming in the box. There is a large clip on the back to attach it to your bag or clothes. The S Pebble is tiny in the hand, reminiscent of the Apple iPod shuffle, which is essentially what this device is. It measures 32.5 x 43. 2 x 13.2 mm and is a featherweight 13.1g. The touch controls sit on the face of the device and there are three additional slider switches around the side. One of these controls power, the others cover repeat/ shuffle and Sound Alive.

Latest techno gadget that I’ve come across is the voice controlled alarm. The voiceactivated Moshi will use its digital AM/FM tuner to provide the wake-up music, and it can also lull you to sleep with your own music by hooking up an external source through a line-in jack. Snooze time is the industry standard nine minutes, allowing you to roll back into your stupor simply by whispering the correct instruction. You can even tune the radio and set the alarm via voice, but those things are probably best done when you aren’t moaning groggily and slurring the words. I simply love this gadget. “A teacher takes a hand, opens a mind, and touches a heart” have attained a feat without the guidance of a teacher. Teacher’s Day seeks to acknowledge this very contribution of teachers. I deeply believe that we should always step forward to celebrate this day in the noble profession. A teacher’s job is not only to teach but to inspire.”

Teachers’ Day is a day that is dedicated to the hard work of the teacher all year long, a day that is a complete tribute to the teachers all around the country. A teacher is a very important and integral part of every individual’s life. After family, the person whom a child looks up to is a teacher. Each of us has that one special teacher in our life that we cannot forget, that one teacher who came to us when we cried sitting in a corner, that teacher who imparted knowledge to us not only academically but morally as well, that teacher who encouraged and supported us during our lows and that teacher whom we would always thank from the bottom of our heart. September 5th is the birth anniversary of one of the modern India’s most notable Teacher and philosopher, the Late Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. We have observed it ever since his passing away as our country’s Teachers’ Day. We take pride in the thoughts and teachings of this Guru of the Gurus, someone who possessed the qualities of a Rishi and a Raja and therefore he was considered a Rajarshi. Teachers are considered the mentors, who not only guide a person academically, but also instill moral and ethical values into him. Teachers open up young minds, showing them the wonders of the intellect and the miracle of being able to think. A teacher is a person who always helps everybody to acquire the knowledge and always stands beside the students when they have a problem. Minal Bhansali, Student of Villa Marie Degree College says “A true teacher is not someone who just teaches academic lessons to his/her students. Rather, he/she is like a guide, who helps the students in each and every sphere of life, by giving the right advice. They are future makers. None of the achievers in this world

When asked a teacher about what she felt about teacher’s day - “Teaching is not just my profession it is my passion; teacher’s day is very important for every teacher as we not only educated the children but impart them with knowledge. Besides teaching students academic values, I believe in imparting the students with moral values also. I teach intermediate students who are in a crucial phase of life, where they are out of school and are exposed to sudden freedom. I try to be strict with the girls, but have always been a guide and a friend to my students. I have always believed in imparting balanced knowledge of academics along with moral values to my students”- said Kiran Thakur, Civics lecturer at Villa Marie College. The student teacher relationship has always been a dicey one. It is said if you like your teacher you will love the subject and if you don’t like the teacher you will never understand the subject. To this, Tanushree, a Student of St. Francis College adds “My favorite lecturer is Smita Madam and she teaches us cost accounting. That is one of the reasons I love cost accounting and also find it easier to understand and study.”

Students take it as an honor to celebrate teachers’ day, they take the opportunity of this special day to express their gratitude and appreciation for teachers. Teachers mold the lives of the students and they also influence them positively. Lessons learnt from teachers remain with their students throughout their life. Teachers break down barriers and reach

into the souls of the students. Manya Reddy, final year student of advertising from Villa Marie College says – “Teachers, I believe, are the most responsible and important people of society because their professional efforts affect the fate of the earth. A good teacher is like a candle, it consumes to light the way for others. The tradition of obeying teachers is rooted in India’s past, but teachers are neglected at present. I would just say that a teacher, who opens a school door, closes a prison.” In India, we believe in “Acharya Devo Bhava”, which means that the teacher is the only person next to God, as it is the teacher who tells us the meaning of the word God. Thus, this day is celebrated in honor and respect of the teacher who helps us, by gently pushing and prodding the students to fulfill their best potential.

ROBERT PATTINSON

H O L L Y W O O D

The New Lyricist!! Surprised aren’t you?? The Twilight series heartthrob is writing songs these days. We never thought that our lover boy is multi talented. Or are we just underestimating him? Or maybe, just it’s a result of his recent break up with his twilight co star Kristen Stewart. Ok, so you don’t know that Kristen Stewart cheated on Robert Pattinson by hooking up with Rupert Sanders, the director of Snow White and the Huntsman. Rupert Sanders is a director, married, 42 years old with 2 kids and KStew is 22, unmarried and dating Robert Pattinson. The news is that both of them hooked up on the sets of this movie and because of KStew’s infidelity Robert Pattinson broke up with her. Robert Pattinson has otherwise kept mum about his break up but media is speculating that he might bare his soul and unleash his pain through his writing just the way Taylor Swift does in her songs. “I’ve been writing a lot of stuff recently,” Rob said, when asked about his music by MTV. “With Twilight coming to a close, I feel more comfortable doing that. I miss it. I might do some stuff soon,” he added. We can’t help but think that it’s a way of getting over his break up. But, we are badly awaiting these songs.

So, now the young teenage girls have another daring look that they can follow from their favorite teenage rock star, Miley Cyrus. Oh wait, did I not tell you that it’s not only the teenagers following this look , stars like Ellen DeGeneres (American standup comedian, television host and actress) have also appreciated Miley’s new look and emulated it too. “Good going Miley, keep it up!” is all we can say to the young blonde starlet.

MARISA MILLER POSES for Men’s Fitness September 2012 Issue What happens when, an American model like Marissa Miller poses for a men’s magazine like Men’s Fitness? For the uninformed, Marissa Miller is known for her appearances in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issues and her work for Victoria’s Secret. She is considered a sex symbol, she ranked #1 on Maxim magazine’s 2008 “Hot 100” list and in FHM’s global 2010 “Sexiest Women in the World” poll. Yes she is that hot, sexy, babe on the rocks. No prizes for guessing, she sizzles and gets the heart thumping. The 34-yearold Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue beauty donned barely-there beachwear for the hot to trot spread, lining the publication’s pages, while dishing about physical well-being and offering life advice. She advices the men to “Take care of your body in the best way you can, and that includes your skin. My mom always told me, what you do now to help or harm your body will show up in five years. Find a sport or physical activity that you are passionate about - for me, its surfing or stand up paddle boarding. Just being outside is enough to reset and feel energized. Always challenge yourself. Try something new or find a way to elevate your goals. ANUSHKA AND RANVEER Call it quits

B O L L Y W O O D

The “Band Baaja Baraat” duo Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh have finally called it quits to their “rocking” relationship. The couple was seen moving in and out of their relationship for the past 3 years. Though, they never declared it publicly that they were dating, they were seen together on quite a few occasions since their first movie together. There seemed to be minor hiccups in their relationship when Ranveer got linked up with Sonakshi Sinha, but things got smooth when they vacationed in the romantic city of Paris together. The source said, “However, something went wrong and Ranveer called off the relationship. He has been openly telling everyone that he is no longer dating Anushka and is single.” A friend of the actor said, “The reason behind their break-up is something that only the two would be able to say. Ranveer has been vocal about it to his friends while Anushka is yet to inform her close aides.” The reason behind their break up is hard to guess. All we can do is to speculate, is Ranveer Singh a real life Ricky Behl, Aadat se Majbur? This, only time will tell.

KAREENA The One Night Stand Diva! For all you Bebo lovers, this one comes as happy news. Recently, Kareena Kapoor got voted as “The One Night Stand Diva” by The Filmfare Youth’s Poll. She’s beaten her other popular contemporaries like Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, Sonam Kapoor, and Priyanka Chopra. So what makes Bebo so desirable among the men? She made it to the news charts with a “Zero figure” for Tashan. Is it her sexy figure that dizzies the men? She has an all famous winning attitude that sails her through ups and downs, is it her never say die attitude? Or is it her ultra stylish looks that make the men go gaga over her? One of these, none of these or all of these? Make a guess. The poll results showed that it’s her “soon-tobe-married” status that does the trick. We all know she is the future Begum of the Chote Nawab, Saif Ali Khan. What makes her the most desirable is the fact that she is “Oh-so-desired” by so many men. Apart from this, we all would agree that she is a “die-for-combo” of sexiness and cuteness, which makes her so irresistible. All we can say is that, the soon to be Mrs. Saif Ali Khan couldn’t get more popular than this. All she must be singing right now is “Shukranallah”!

THE NEW DAD ON THE BLOCK Vivek Oberoi!! It’s raining babies in Bollywood. The quest to be proud parents started with Abhishek Bacchan and Aishwarya Rai Bacchan being parents of a darling daughter Aradhya Bacchan, and then it was Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupati being proud parents of a little girl, followed by Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra being blessed by a baby boy. Following their footsteps are Vivek Oberoi and Priyanka Alva, the proud Oberoi’s. Priyanka Alva, whom Vivek Oberoi married on 29th October 2010, is 2 months into her first pregnancy. And Vivek Oberoi, the “Dad-to-be”, is obviously all excited and pumped up about it. The baby is expected somewhere in February as “Vivek has apparently requested everyone to give him time off for around 20 days, so he can be with Priyanka at the time”, as told to reporters. There is yet another exciting news that is comforting the Oberoi household these days. The news is that Meghna Oberoi, Vivek Oberoi’s Sister, is also expecting. Isn’t this a power packed, exciting news?? This truly calls for a double celebration for the Oberoi’s. We wish the “Mothers-To-Be” an All the Best, the “Papas-To-Be” a “Happy-Nappy-Changing” experience and the “GrandParents-to-Be” a merry making time ahead.

SAMANTHA

Gets Hitched!

Is Back in Action

Nani, the successful actor is all smiles these days. One reason is that his recent release Eega is a super hit and this is getting him a lot of other attractive film offers. And the second reason is even bigger than the first one. He got engaged to his love Anjana in a private ceremony in Vizag on the 12th August afternoon at 1.03 pm. Nani exchanged engagement rings with Anjana on the same day. Not too long ago, the actor condemned all media reports regarding his impending nuptials. Here is good news for the fans of Mahesh, Venkatesh, Naga Chaitanya, and Ram Charan. Samantha is now fit and is back to work. She suffered due to a skin related disease which did not allow her to come out in the sun. Several of her movies like Autonagar Suriya, Seethamma Vaakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, Siddharth movie, Yevadu, Eto Vellipoindhi Manasu were stalled midway. She had reported that she will return to work on 20th July but it did not materialize. But now ‘All is well’. She participated in the ‘trial shoot’ of Nandini Reddy’s current film with Siddharth. Sources say that Samantha looked very ‘weak’, so the director Nandini Reddy reportedly filmed a few shots to test whether there would be any mismatch of her physical appearance. Before she took off on health grounds, she shot for the film with hero Siddharth for major sequences. With Samantha back on sets now, producers are relieved now. She has to join the shoot of Yeto Vellipoyindhi Manasu and Seetamma Vaakitlo Sirimalle Chettu. We wish Samantha a very good health and we hope she stays in the pink of health always. We also wish her all the best for her upcoming movies.

RORY MCILROY

VVS LAXMAN

THE US PGA CHAMPION

Bids Goodbye to International Cricket.

The 23-year-old Rory McIlroy returns to the world number one position in Golf. He is young and energetic and ready to go. The Northern Irishman became the second youngest player to reach the top of the world rankings in March but since then his position not been steady. McIlroy became the youngest man to win two majors since Spain’s Seve Ballesteros won the Masters, also at the age of 23, in 1980. His eight-shot margin of victory is a new record, surpassing Jack Nicklaus’s seven-stroke victory at Oak Hill in 1980. In addition, the Northern Irishman is now a multiple major winner at a younger age than Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, who was four months older than McIlroy when he won his second major. “To sit up here and see this trophy and call myself a multiple major champion, not many people have done it and I’m very privileged to join such an elite list of names,” Said a visibly elated Mcllroy after the win. The surprise of the Championship was golfer David Lynn, who finished alone in second place at five under. The 38-year-old, who has only played in one other major, the 2003 Open where he finished 53rd, was rewarded with an automatic berth in the 2013 Masters. Fellow Englishman Ian Poulter mounted a serious challenge but then the day belonged to Rory. Also, Four-time US PGA winner Woods never really threatened the lead. The youngster is the new golfer on the block and we congratulate him for his success and wish him the best for his future!

Our very own Hyderabadi cricketer “Very very special” Laxman announced his retirement from international cricketing. The veteran cricketer looked all emotional as he announced his departure from the international cricketing scene. He mentioned playing for India as a dream come true and that he would like to give opportunities to youngsters to prove themselves. He played for India for 16 long years and it was extremely difficult to bid goodbye to those people with whom he has shared the same dressing room. Durban 2010 (96 vs. SA) was one of his favorite knocks that he would cherish. Laxman got his first Test half-century (51) in the second innings of his debut match against the South Africans but it took him another 29 innings before he got his first Test hundred – a fabulous 167 against Australia in the Sydney Test. Since then Laxman has gone on to get 16 more hundreds while notching up a total of 56 halfcenturies, with his highest being the monumental 281 against Australia in Kolkata which destroyed Australian captain Steve Waugh’s dream of conquering the ‘Final Frontier’. Laxman has played 134 Tests, amassing 8,781 runs at an average of 45.97 and hitting 17 hundreds. The Hyderabadi has always had a pair of safe hands and has pouched 135 Test catches too. Adios Laxman, we shall miss those fantastic sixes and fours from your bat!

SAINA MAKES HYDERABAD PROUD! Saina Nehwal, the ace shuttler from our very own Hyderabad, has done all of us proud. Yes, she has Made India proud on an international level but on a national level she has certainly done proud to the city of Nawabs, Hyderabad, her home town. She created history by becoming the first ever shuttler from India to win an Olympic medal at the 2012 Games held in London. She dedicated the medal to her father whom she termed as the reason behind her success. Her semifinal loss to China’s world no 1 Yihan Wang was heartbreaking but nevertheless she returned with a medal. She revealed that the loss came as a disappointment for her and she did not speak to anyone after the match. “I couldn’t believe that I’ve won an Olympic medal. It was only after giving a few interviews that the reality dawned on me.” She added in an interview. As far as her show in the quadrennial event is concerned, Saina is happy with her performance and says that the Olympics are one event where she doesn’t feel any pressure despite the worldwide attention. However, she did concede that going into the event there was an emotional pressure on her. As to how she is going to spend her break before she starts training, the Commonwealth gold medalist said she wants to enjoy the time and spend time with the family. We congratulate Saina Nehwal on her fantastic performance at the games. We also congratulate and wish good luck to Gagan Narang, Yogeshwar Dutt, Mary Kom, Sushil Kumar and Vijay Kumar. 58 SEPTEMBER, 2012

RESIDENT EVIL – RETRIBUTION

EK THA TIGER A romantic thriller looked very promising prior to its release. But Off late we have seen enough of Salman Khan in mindless comedies and inflated action flicks. Aditya Chopra sketches his story on the unusual premise of what would happen if an Indian intelligence officer falls in love with a Pakistani spy. The conflicts in the love story come quite naturally through the animosity between the two neighboring nations, prevalent for decades.Tiger (Salman Khan) is an Indian intelligence officer who’s sent by RAW to Dublin to keep an eye on a science professor. Tiger flies down to Dublin, the Irish capital, to follow the Professor. And that is where he ends up meeting his lady love (Zoya) Katrina Kaif, the professor’s residence caretaker. Though Tiger knows that he is on a mission and he dare not fall in love, he loses his heart to Zoya until it turns out that even Zoya is on an undercover mission. Now Tiger has to choose between duty and love. If you are a Salman Khan fan, you would love it for sure and the movie might rake-in the moolah because of the superstar! It will certainly entertain you if you leave your brains outside the theatre! GANGS OF WASSEYPUR Despite its blood and gore, Anurag Kashyap’s follow up to his critically acclaimed film is a great social commentary. If the part 1 enthralled it also left the appetite whetted. What next level could Anurag possibly scale with part 2 as he carries forward his saga to the next generation? If Part 1 was all about Sardar Khan, then the sequel is all about the rise and subsequent fall of his stoner son, Faisal Khan. Gangs Part 2 takes off where the first part ended. Sardar’s (Manoj Bajpayee) sons take over their father’s legacy. Faizal, forever crafting a mix for his chillam, couldn’t care less until events and a scornful mother jolt him out of stoned apathy. The rest of the story follows the rise and his avenging Ramadhir Singh (Tigmanshu Dhulia) for his killing most of his family. With the ruthlessness of a pissed-off panther, Faizal goes on the warpath, a natural despot softened only when rushing towards his voluptuous lady. The women are as important to the proceedings as the men, if not more, even if deprived of screen time. Huma Qureshi’s Mohsina is a plucky stunner, who fearlessly keeps Faizal on a leash. The movie with a running time of a little over two and a half hours might feel a tad bit long but the tight screenplay, amazing dialogues and the very funky soundtrack keeps you glued to your seats. Even though the movie has a lot of gore and violence, there are many absolutely hilarious moments throughout the movie. With Gangs Part 2, Kashyap proves he is the Quentin Tarantino of Bollywood and that the industry can finally make a movie in which the story is the real hero.

hen fragments of stone with ancient writings are found in Sinai, the Egyptians call in expert Daniel Klein. But when Daniel’s decipherment of the ancient text threatens to reveal the origins of the Bible, others are determined to prevent the truth from seeing the light of day. Framed for murder, Daniel and the beautiful Viennese archaeologist he is working with, find themselves pursued across Sinai by a deadly female Mossad officer and a ruthless killer from a shadowy organization in Washington DC. But as they try to stay one step ahead of their pursuers and follow the trail of clues, they are forced to ask themselves how many more secrets are waiting to be discovered? The trail leads them all the way back to the Samaritans – an ancient sect who claim that they are descended from the true Israelites and a sacred mountain shrine that may hold the answers or cost them their lives. The Moses Legacy is a historical/religious conspiracy thriller in the vein of Dan Brown’s popular bestsellers. Like Brown, Adam Palmer is a storyteller and a suspense-weaver, rather than a writer of high literature, but this does not detract from the reader’s overall enjoyment of the novel.

This story is about the middle triplet Maggie. She is a dancer on Broadway and has recently left her long running musical where she was lead. She is going to star in a new musical that is backed by Valentine Records, a family owned business. Reed, the CEO of Valentine records has taken over the company from his father and he decides to stop by and watch them practice. When he meets Maggie, he is late for a meeting with the producers, but sees that she is getting mugged by a desperate teenager. By the time he reaches her, she has won the struggle with the would-be mugger and she is picking up her things. Overall, it’s a happy ending story.
