Nutty-Gritties

Nutty Gritties is a healthy subscription box of snacks to beat you in between meal hunger pangs. All you have to do is, choose your plan, wait for it to get it delivered to your door step and relish the amazing & unique flavours. “My family has been in the business of nuts since 1887. Being the 5th generation, I knew that I definitely wanted to take this business forward. The time I joined it, was the brink of not only the retail, but also the packaging industry, and there was no organised player in this segment in the Indian market. Besides that, being a foodie and a health freak, I noticed a shortage of healthy and yummy alternatives to snacking in India. Putting the pieces together, Nutty Gritties was born. We’ve had a great journey in the last 5 years where we have evolved as a brand. Our customers have journeyed with us and been the motivating factor for our growth. Our USP is the range of Flavours that we keep innovating on a regular basis. Besides being 100% Dry Roasted and Cholesterol Free, our constant innovation in flavours and varieties in nuts, seeds and trail mixes makes us different from other players in the market. People get bored of eating the same thing. So, we try to make healthy fun! Everything we sell is also manufactured in-house in our ISO 22000, HACCP and FSSAI Certified Plant giving a guarantee of impeccable quality.” says Dinika Bhatia, Director-Business Development’ of Nutty-Gritties. order on: http://nuttygritties.com/

SodaBottleOpenerwala is a tribute to the dying legacy of a Bombay Irani Cafe bringing with it typical Parsi cuisine, some Irani specialties, Bombay street food and a wellstocked bar - in a fun, quirky and contemporary avatar. With Bambaiyya Love Tiffin, SodaBottleOpenerwala celebrated the spirit of love and the spirit of Bombay. The selection of dishes showcased in the Non-Vegetarian and Vegetarian Bambaiyya Love Tiffin are not found on the regular menu and guests were encouraged to try these for a one of its kinds Bombay-Irani experience. Ten dishes which were a mix of soups, appetizers, mains and desserts comprise the Bambaiyya Love Tiffin. The Vegetarians savoured the Crispy corn bhel for some zing, Scotch broth for the Bombay soul, some earthy and soulful love and Cutliss (cutlet) for a love snack. Paneer Sanju baba and the Bombay biryani spell comfort food at its best and the Non-Vegetarians got their share of Bombay foods like the Seafood bhel, Scotch Broth for the Bombay soul, Cutliss (cutlet), Chicken Sanju baba and a Bombay biryani made with chicken. Cuppa Bistro

Abhiram Agarwal, founder of Cuppa, started as a designer with his store AporContraditions at Jubilee Hills. He was also an actor earlier for some time and then kind of ventured into restaurants, bistros and cafes. “Cuppa was actually behind my house and I loved the place plus I was really passionate about hookahs and so, I thought why not make my hobby into something more. Hence, I took over Cuppa. I do see myself growing more in the food industry, like maybe opening more restaurants in the future and also plan to get into real estate and construction. I see myself five times higher than that I am today in my career”, says Abhiram. Cuppa has a vast range of starters like spring rolls, potato wedges, chilli broccoli and many more that their customers devour. You can always try their specialities like Cuppa couple rice, popcorn rice, grilled chicken and lot of other stuff as well. Their beverages are a hit too. Do try Cuppa’s cold coffee or mocha. Their USP has to be the hookah along with the ambience, service and most of all reasonable pricing. Plot No.1196, Raod No.59, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad Phone: 60122345

Over A with

Priyanka Nahata

Priyanka Nahata as an individual is not a mystery at all. She is like an open book and a believer of karma. She likes to keep things simple. She is a Foodie and loves to talk which does justice to her profession too. Sometimes, she is a very emotional person. Tell us about how did you start off with anchoring? I was discovered, to be honest. When I first hosted a show, I had no idea about it, I was just told to promote a brand and I went on and on. I have a bold voice and I was good in my communication skills. I had good knowledge about the topics given. Couple of event managers overheard me during my shows and kept giving me work. Anchoring became my full time job though. I used to promote brands, was a face of conferences, calling speakers, anchoring for stage shows, corporate family days, team building and more. I am always trying to learn new elements to add in my work, improving myself and delivering something new. A lot of hard work was required and majority of my days are spent sitting in a little closet and reading scripts! A very big part of what I do is my voice. How has the journey been in this field? The journey has been just brilliant and hosting shows has taken my career to another level. I am glad that I got an opportunity to be associated with some of the biggest shows and events. Now, I, a stage fanatic with 5 years of experience as a fully fledged Emcee, Host, Master of Ceremonies working with numerous companies I bring elegance, enthusiasm and versatility with me to make an event, unique and successful. I have handled compeering for Musical evenings, Fashion shows, Quiz competitions, Corporate Seminars, Product Launches, Award Ceremonies, Teambuilding Activities, Weddings, Sangeeth Nights, Live Dance Shows and many more. I have hosted about 400 shows in my career and still believe the journey has just begun to connect with audience and vice versa. Tell us your story related to your career? I started my career as a host. I hosted various cultural events in schools, colleges and malls in Hyderabad. After hosting so many events, I got my first big break in 2012 when I was selected to host a Team building event for Microsoft employees at Leonia. After this show, I struggled for 3 years to get this going on. Every call for event was a new opportunity. I used to take up all events and road shows. In order to gain 20 MARCH, 2016 - TULIP

What is your next step, in terms of your work? I am anchoring lot of shows now and if interesting offers come which meet my sensibilities, then of course, I will be inclined towards them. However, I will never give up anchoring. It is what I love doing, I love talking, so it is one profession which suits me the best! Life is good, so far and I just wish to be in a position to be able to do all the things I want to do!

experience, I moulded myself to be superconfident and people-friendly. Also, I have lots of patience. Whenever any funny or embarrassing incidents happen with me, I put the joke on myself and have a laugh about it. Journey went on and now I take up selected shows which suit my profile.

plan for the day. At Night after dinner I check my mails, followed by a reflection of my day where I ask myself, what challenged me today and how can I improve on this?

Mornings:

I write these down in my brain, then plan my next day and go to bed.

I wake up at 9, take my shower, then meditate for about 10 minutes. I take about twenty minutes to eat, spend time with mom & dad and then hit the gym. While eating, I review my reflections from the night before and my

Leisure: I listen to music; I spend lot of my time with family, friends and surfing. I like to watch movies and cook for myself, groom myself and pamper myself . How do you manage your work and personal life? As I am single, it’s not that difficult to manage both, my parents are supportive. It often happens when I have to travel to other places for work and my mom keeps a checklist of things I need to carry, so balancing both for me is easy. There is no doubt about the fact that industry has become very competitive over the past few years and hence life has become difficult. There are times when I not only have to juggle between family, friends and work, but also with various projects that I have taken up. However, I make sure that in all this, I don’t compromise on my family. Tell us something about your family We are a family of four; mom, dad, me and my brother. My dad is a businessman trading in tea and coffee power. He is very hardworking and a simple man. My mom is a housewife and my brother is a software engineer working for dksh in Malaysia . How is your usual day at work? A lot of the things that I do on stage are impromptu. There is definitely a script that we need to follow, but I do add to it on the spot. People who know can easily identify what is scripted and what is created by me. So, it’s always a new day, new place, new company which keeps my day lively, energetic, happening. All my days at work are wonderful.

CAST A SPELL this March!! The World Spelling Day is the newest addition to the World Education Games. It is a weeklong online event which is held annually in the month of March. It is the extended format of what was once, “World Maths Day” and now includes World Spelling Day and World Science Day too. Supported by the UNICEF, Spelling Day, that happened to be on 5th march, was added mostly to aware the global community about education and its importance & how to make it more fun.

So, here we share with you the most misspelled words that we hope you will not misspell in the future! Acceptable Several words made the list because of the suffix pronounced -êbl but sometimes spelled -ible, sometimes -able. Just remember to accept any table offered to you and you will spell this word OK. Amateur Amateurs need not be mature: this word ends on the French suffix -eur (the equivalent of English -er). Bellwether Often misspelled “bellweather.” A wether is a gelded ram, chosen to lead the herd (thus his bell) due to the greater likelihood that he will remain at all times ahead of the ewes. Conscientious Work on your spelling conscientiously and remember this word with [ch] spelled two different ways: “sc” and “ti.” English spelling! Discipline A little discipline, spelled with the [s] and the [c] will get you to the correct spelling of this one. Damn! We never get that right! Dumbbell Even smart people forget one of the [b]s in this one. (So, be careful who you call one when you write.) Embarrass (ment)- This one won’t embarrass you if you remember it is large enough for a double [r] AND a double [s]. Hierarchy The i-before-e rule works here. Liaison A French word throwing us all off: a spare [i], just in case. That’s an [s], too, that sounds like a [z]. 24 MARCH, 2016 - TULIP

Questionnaire French again. Double up on the [n]s in this word and don’t forget the silent[e]. Schedule If perfecting your spelling is on your schedule, remember the [sk] is spelled as in “school.” (If you use British pronunciation, why do you pronounce this word [shedyul] but “school,” [skul]? Time to put your thinking caps on!) Weather Whether you like the weather or not, you have to write the [a] after the [e] when you spell it. Manas Ranjan Mohanty, Banker “What I feel is that, the spelling day is a very important day as people are mostly depending on computers for writing these days and most of us do not care to remember the spellings. If things go this way, may be after some time we won’t have any spellings in our memory. This is a pretty scary thought! In my childhood, we always practised anything writing and then remembering but always miss spelt the word ‘these’ as ‘thease’.

Now, for some fun facts, did you know that -

The dot over the letter ‘i’ is called a tittle.

-

The longest single syllable word in the English language is, “screeched”.

-

“Dreamt” is the only English word that ends in the letters, “mt”.

-

The word ‘set’ has more definitions than any other words in the English dictionary.

-

‘Underground’ is the only word in the English language that starts and ends with the letters ‘und’.

-

There are only four words in the English language that end in, “-dous”, tremendous, horrendous, stupendous and hazardous.

FEATURE SIX most recently added words to the Oxford Dictionary

Awesomesauce - If you want to describe something as excellent, you can use awesomesauce; on the other side of the coin, anything of a poor or disappointing standard is weak sauce.

- The longest word in English language, according to Oxford Dictionary is, “pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanokoniosis”. -

“I am” is the shortest complete sentence in the English language.

-

Believe it or not, there are some words that appeared in the dictionary due to printing error and meant nothing. The word “dord” appeared for 8 years in the mid-20th century. It became known as a ‘ghost-word’.

-

The shortest, oldest and most commonly used word is, “I”.

-

Words we always use even though they add no meaning or value to the sentence are called ‘crutch words’. For example, ‘then I was like, OMG, then like, he went there, like…’ ‘Actually’, ‘honestly’ and ‘basically’ are also commonly used crutch words.

-

A new word is added to the dictionary every two hours.

Hangry - A blend of hungry and angry, meaning ‘badtempered or irritable as a result of hunger’.

Cupcakery- A bakery that specializes in cupcakes.

YouTuber - A frequent user of the videosharing website YouTube, especially someone who produces and appears in videos on the site.

Beer o’clock and Wine o’clock - Humorous terms for the (supposedly) appropriate times of the day for having your first glass of either of the drink.

Rage-quit - A verb meaning to, ‘angrily abandon an activity or pursuit that has become frustrating’ and especially used in relation to video games.

Brain Exercise! Now exercise your brain with these weirdly spelled simple words from our dictionary that is in every sense meant to confuse you and choose the correct one from them. We challenge you to keep your phones aside! Choose the correct spelling… - arguement - argument

Satyabrata Dikshit, Software Engineer I think, these days such as, ‘The World Spelling Day’ is very important. With English serving as the first language everywhere, learning the right English is required. Spreading awareness would help people understand its importance and create a sense of urgency. As a child, I always misspelt long words such as condescending, anachronistic, hypothesis etc. and got nice sticks for it as well from my teacher!

- comitmment - commitment - consensus - consencus - deductible - deductuble - foreward - foreword

Aarushi Sinha, Fashion Student The importance of such days I think are very subjective but yes it certainly would help create awareness properly if publicised well. My childhood memory related to spellings would be something really funny, I actually used to swap ‘I’ and ‘E’ in words like ‘Friends’ etc. till I was in 7th grade, because of which I used to get scolded by my teacher a lot!

Answers: Argument, Commitment, Consensus, Deductible, Foreword Congrats! To the ones who got them all right and well to the ones who didn’t, time to brush your spelling skills! We also give you three most mispronounced words: Ask: Pronouncing ask as “aks” is a “very common, perfectly natural” error referred to as “metathesis.” But there’s already a pretty well-known word pronounced “aks,” and it refers to a hatchet-like tool or weapon. Cache: It’s quite tempting to pronounce this “cash-ay,” but that pronunciation belongs to the word cachet, which means the state of having high status or prestige. Cache is actually pronounced the same way as cash, and it means a group of items hidden in a secret storage place. Suite: Suite, a term for a group of things being used for the same purpose (usually a set of rooms), looks more like suit than sweet. But it’s pronounced like the latter, not the former. Pronounce suite as “sweet,” or people will wonder why you had to rent a suit for the wedding instead of just bringing your own to the hotel. 26 MARCH, 2016 - TULIP

Aadya Das, Student Though English isn’t my favourite subject, I do enjoy it, especially the grammar part of it. My school also holds a lot of spelling competitions that I take part in. I enjoy them too. My favourite story at the moment is ‘Charlie and the chocolate factory’. I think ‘chocolate’ is my favourite word.

We get to you some fun and interesting facts about our cricket fanatics; let’s say it’s more than just on-field facts. INTERESTING/ FUN FACTS

MS Dhoni is the only player in World T20 history to captain a team in every game and in every edition (25 matches).

Australia were beaten by Zimbabwe in the first-ever World T20 match!

The ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) came up with the format of T20 and the first ever T20 international was played by Australia and New Zealand, also known as ‘The TransTasman Rivals.’

Pakistan and Sri Lanka have won the most matches in the tournament’s history - 16 each. England have lost the most matches - 11.

New Zealand is the only team to be involved in two tied matches at the World T20. The Kiwis lost both matches!

Kohli loves tattoos. He has gotten himself inked four times and his favourite tattoo is the one sporting a Samurai Warrior.

Helicopter Shot - A shot that became synonymous with Dhoni was not something that Dhoni himself had invented. It was something that was taught to him by his friend and former Jharkhand cricketer, Santosh Lal.

FEATURE

Ajinkya Rahane is known for his technically solid batting and his electric fielding. Off the field, he also pursued karate and has a black belt in it. His mild mannered nature perhaps masks the dangerous qualities within.

Despite being a vegetarian, Rohit Sharma is very fond of eggs, but consumes them only outside his home; respecting their tradition. Once Rohit Sharma challenged his friend to eat 50 eggs without a break.

Fastest Fifty: Yuvraj Singh is the fastest half-century maker in the T20 World Tournament. He hit 50 in just 12 deliveries in 2007. This record is still yet to be broken.

Things to do on Match Days

Plan a get together with your loved ones or old friends. Go out to any of the places that are screening the matches live and have a blast!

If you are not someone who likes a lot of crowd around, then maybe you can invite your close group of friends and have an exclusive cricket party with the match playing on TV. Subsequently, you all can enjoy a nice home cooked meal or order from your favourite restaurant, as well!

If everybody in your life is busy and you still want to have fun, then we suggest you “bring your own sunshine”, i.e., get dressed, put on the best blue attire you have (don’t worry about the jersey. I’m sure our cricket team would understand!), paint your cheeks if you fancy, get your noise-making thing and sit in front of your television. We also suggest you to make the popcorn in advance, as we wouldn’t like you to miss out on absolutely anything!

I enjoy watching Australia and West Indies play as well. For this year’s World Cup, I’m all geared up with my team India jersey. I’m looking forward for the India vs. Pakistan match and planning to see at least one match from the stadium if I get tickets”. Deepak Kumar

FEATURE And, if you are that person who likes to cook good food on important days like these, we give you the recipes of some amazing finger foods that you would enjoy both to cook and eat or maybe even feed:

Cook it up

Herb and Spice Paneer Fritters (Veg.) Ingredients: • 1 tsp cumin seeds • 227g pack paneer (Indian cooking cheese) coarsely grated • Handful coriander sprigs, stems and leaves finely chopped • Handful mint leaves • 1 spring onion finely chopped • Thumb-size piece of ginger finely chopped • 2 garlic clove finely grated or crushed • 2 eggs beaten • 2 tbsp plain flour • Sunflower oil for frying • Lemon wedges and sweet chilli sauce, to serve

Method: • Toast the cumin seeds in a large, non-stick frying pan for about 1 min. COntinue to shake the pan until they get a shade darker, taking care not to burn them. Remove from the heat and place the seeds in a mixing bowl. • Add everything else, except the oil, lemon and chilli sauce, to the bowl. Season well and mix thoroughly. Using wet hands, take walnut-size handful of the mixture, then press into flat little cakes, like fish cakes or patties. They can now be chilled until ready to cook, or cooked straight away. • Reheat the pan over a medium flame and add enough oil to cover the base of the pan. When hot, add the fritters, cook until golden underneath, then turn over and cook until golden all over. Be careful as they may splutter slightly. Drain on kitchen paper and keep warm as you cook batches. Serve with lemon wedges and sweet chilli sauce.

Mini Chicken Fajitas (Non-Veg.) Ingredients: • 2 tbsp. sunflower oil • 2 skinless chicken breasts cut into 1½ cm/½ in chunks • 1 red pepper, deseeded and cut into 1½ cm/½ in chunks • 1 yellow pepper, deseeded and cut into 1½ cm/½ in chunks • 1 tsp ground cumin • 1 tsp ground coriander • ¼ tsp hot chilli powder • 227g can chopped tomatoes • 2 tbsp chipotle paste • 4 spring onions trimmed and thinly sliced • Large pack coriander leaves chopped • 3 large flour tortillas • 75g ready-grated mozzarella For the guacamole dip • 1 ripe avocado stoned and peeled • Juice 1 large lime • 1 garlic clove crushed • 2 heaped tbsp. finely chopped coriander You will need • 36 cocktail sticks

Method: • Heat the oil in a large, non-stick frying pan or wok and stir-fry the chicken and peppers for 2 mins. Sprinkle over the spices and cook for 30 secs more, stirring. Tip the tomatoes into the pan and stir in the chipotle paste. Simmer for 5 mins or until the sauce is thick and glossy, stirring regularly. Stir in the spring onions and coriander, cook for 1 min more, then remove from the heat and leave to cool. • Cut the tortillas into quarters, then cut each quarter into three pieces, so you have 36 triangles. Place 1 tsp of the chicken mixture and a little cheese at the widest end of a triangle. Roll the pointed end of the triangle around the filling and secure with a cocktail stick. Place on a baking tray lined with baking parchment. Fill and roll the other triangles. Cover with cling film and chill for up to 8 hrs until ready to reheat. • To make the dip, mash all the ingredients in a bowl until almost smooth. Cover the surface of the dip with cling film and chill for up to 24 hrs. • When ready to serve, heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Uncover the fajitas and bake for 6-8 mins or until hot throughout. Serve with the guacamole. TULIP - MARCH, 2016 33

FEATURE I am a hard-core India supporter. And as most of India’s matches this year are in the evening, I have plans of watching them at my friend’s place after office with some beer! Well for such events/occasions I prefer spending time with my friends and cheering for our favourite teams together. My all-time absolute favourite is AB De Villiers. Sourav Roy, Content Writer

I am obviously supporting team India for this year’s T20 World Cup. I am so proud to be donning the blue. And I usually watch these matches outside in places like Xtreme sports bar and a lot of other places in Hyderabad that screen matches live with friends to cheer our favourite teams. In this year’s case it’s India! My favourite player would definitely be Virat Kohli. Anusha Punjala, Design Student

Well! I am not that big a cricket fan, but since it’s the World Cup I’m pretty sure it’s going to be everywhere! So, then I might just have a glance. Even though not a huge fan, I would definitely support team India for this year’s World Cup T20. And my favourite player would have to be MS Dhoni. Ankita Srivastava, Engineering Student

I am a die-hard Indian Cricket team fan! No matter what I support them, through thick and thin I am with our cricket team. So, this T20 World Cup nothing different for me, I’m going to be rooting for Team India. And usually for such events I like to spend the time with my friends in any place where they screen the matches live on big screens! It’s more fun that way. My favourite player has always been Sachin Tendulkar but since he’s retired I have to go for my current favourite, Virat Kohli.” Pritam, B.com Student

For this year’s World Cup T20, I would most probably rush to the television after returning from office forgetting about everything else. I will be supporting Team India of course. I usually invite my friends over for such events and there is a lot of chanting and comments all throughout the match. My favourite player is MS Dhoni I wouldn’t miss a single moment of his innings. Good Friday with the Patnaik’s 3) How do you make it special? I make the occasion extraordinary by cooking up my special Biryani which everyone enjoys to their fullest. 4) Best memorable moment of your festive togetherness by far? The most memorable moment by far was this one, when we all sat over a glass of wine and went down memory lane. The conversation just did not stop. 5) Tell us about the other festivals you all celebrate and are important to you? We celebrate Christmas and New Year. These are the joyous times of the year. Christmas marks Jesus’s birth and New Year ofcourse the beginning of a new chapter in life.

1) Tell us about your family and what kind of a bond you share? I come from a very loving and closely knit family. I have a Father who is more than a best friend to me, and a mother who is my guardian angel. 2) Could you describe a typical Good Friday celebration at home? Good Friday for us Christians is the day we believe that Jesus Christ gave up his life as a sacrifice to save us from our sins. He then rose on the third day after that which is Easter. Easter is epic for us, and a typical celebration calls for togetherness, some awesome food, amazing moments spent with family and friends, and of course how can I forget the Easter Eggs.

6) Tell us about how you spend time together as a family usually? On a day off I make sure that I spend some quality time with my family. Relax at home; cook up my parent’s favourite meal, and some awesome music. 7) Any special message to our readers for Good Friday? My special message to you is... Be Good on a Friday. Jokes apart, Festivals are those days when u forget all your stress and tensions. Because your family is the best stress buster ever. I love my Family and always will.

Easter with Gabriels 1) Tell us about your family and what kind of a bond you share? All of us are really close. It’s funny because we all live in different parts of the city, but somehow, no matter what; we land up in Blue Haven (that’s the name of my house) for the weekend. My kids are spread across the city; sometimes it feels like they’re beyond reach but when they come home, it’s like no time even went by. Our bond is strongest with our chai at our dining table. Nothing to beat that! 2) Could you describe a typical Easter celebration at home? A typical Easter celebration in my house basically involves good food, good drink and good conversation. Us, along with our extended family meet up and spend almost the entire day together, eating Easter eggs, 36 MARCH, 2016 - TULIP

bunnies, and being merry. Since most of us fast or abstain from the food that we love during the season of lent, we all brace ourselves for a delicious meal and no matter how much we tell ourselves not to, we end up overeating. Fish, roast chicken, shepherd’s pie are our Easter favourites.

EASTER FUN!

3) How do you make it special? Well, I’m a baker so my expertise lies in making Easter eggs and chocolate bunnies. And ever since The Chocolate Haven started, I don’t just make them for my house only. It’s a must-have during this celebration and I have many customers who come year after year for them. My kids get their fair share, too. That’s one thing I try to still keep up even when I’m neck-deep in work. 4) Best memorable moment of your festive togetherness by far? Although my most favourite time of the year happens to be Christmas, we try and make Easter a large feast, too. I think my most memorable moment was when my kids were much younger and they waited patiently for their Easter eggs after a lavish lunch at home. Despite having given up non-veg for the season of lent, they couldn’t wait for the chocolate Easter eggs more (because they break the egg open only to find more chocolates inside them). But what makes me smile ear to ear even now is that my kids, even though they’re all in their twenties, still wait for their own Easter eggs with eager eyes, making sure they have enough place in their stomachs. 5) Tell us about the other festivals you all celebrate and are important to you? Christmas is by far the grandest and most wonderful time of the year in my house. There isn’t a spot in my house during the Christmas season that isn’t decorated; there isn’t ever a time in December when the house doesn’t smell of Christmas cake. My kids watched me decorate the house for years and now the job is theirs entirely, and they do it with so much excitement. It really is a Winter Wonderland. It’s that one time of the year when my family is always together and love and laughter is always in the air. We also make it a point to try and celebrate Thanksgiving. Although it’s an American idea, we have so many reasons to be thankful so we sit and enjoy a good home-made meal on the last Thursday of November. 6) Tell us about how you spend time together as a family usually? We’re big movie buffs - all of us. We love watching movies together. And my kids are away from home throughout the week, so we spend most of our time at the dining table (like I mentioned earlier) while the kids eat the home food that they’ve missed. We sit up and listen to music, each with their own tastes and talk about everything under the sun - from politics, to science, to music and so much more - we’re always debating. It’s a wonderfully challenging atmosphere for my kids - all three of whom have taken different fields of study (it’s what contributes to the variety of discussions!) 7) Any special message to our readers for Easter? To everyone who are reading this, celebrate the day. Enjoy it, understand the significance and eat your heart out. It’s a beautiful celebration if you really look at its meaning. And if you simply want to celebrate, I think you should, And the best way to do that is to come on over to the The Chocolate Haven and order yourself some good Easter Eggs, especially the young adults constantly worried about their weight. They do know that a ‘balanced diet’ is basically chocolate in both hands, right? Have a wonderful Easter and a blessed season of lent.

MA EARTH BOTANICALS

My mother (Swarn Sukh) as a Naturopath and Homeopath has been experimenting with beauty care concoctions for as long as I can remember. I grew up using the products she made, which encouraged me to study Aromatherapy at college. One fine day we took stock of all the products she had developed over two decades and thought it would be a good idea to share them with the world. It was daunting at first, considering we’re not a business family, but when we started planning the business out with my brother, who happens to be a banker, it all started making sense. Our core idea was, and still remains, to develop beauty care products without the use of synthetic ingredients. Our focus is to use natural and pure ingredients, like essential oils, nuts, fruits, natural butters and botanical extracts in making products with care, love and an inherent respect for nature. The market is full of synthetic products that claim they can do miraculous wonders for your skin and make you feel like a better person, from the outside in. We really wanted to challenge that paradigm and give people an alternative to ‘fast beauty’, a malaise of today’s fast paced society. The response has been organic, but steady. We started as a mother and daughter team taking on a very big industry which is extremely cut throat in pricing and negotiations. In this market, the authenticity and quality of our products really do set us apart, which is why we consciously do not position our products next to more heavily marketed competitors, whose authenticity must be increasingly questioned by consumers. In fact, Ma Earth has not spent a single paisa on advertising till date, and this is because we want to rely on our clients spreading the word, it’s more organic that way. If your product is amazing, it will speak for itself. What’s next: We will strengthen relationships with online partners who understand the vibe of our company and our need to focus on quality rather than quantity. Ma Earth will also continue building organic resonance in the social media space, experimenting with new brand and packaging designs, launching new product variants and launching several informative online brand campaigns to build consumer awareness on natural beauty care, says Geetanjali Sukh (cofounder). WHIMSICAL WHEEEL “The idea for “Whimsical Wheeel” (not to forget an extra ‘e’) came from the fact that many thought it can’t even exist, a taboo almost. We 3 have grown up in a society that tells us 20s is the time for marriage not career, wearing wedding gowns not designing them and acquiescing not taking a stand. Our mothers regret not having taken a leap of faith. Their regret became our motivation, really. We thought economic independence might change things for us, something we haven’t seen women do in our families before. You will see this theme running across our products too. They are head turners, bold, almost offensive to some, disrupting almost. We believe our back-story allows for such designs. We have got a fair, warm welcome by people and our products have been appreciated for it’s uniqueness and hope it translates into a strong customer base. Our products are exclusive and are a breath of fresh air. We have made sure that a lot of thought process has been put while working on every piece of the collection. They are handcrafted and not run off the mill. We have got great feedback and the one common thing that has emerged is that these pieces are head turners, a statement in themselves. The online stores are a good opportunity for start ups like us who don’t have many resources in the beginning. It is the best way to reach diverse audience. People get our products delivered at their door steps. The only drawback is that we don’t get to meet our valuable customers What’s next: We will soon be launching our ready to wear “Whimsy Gypsy” capsule collection. This collection has a lot of prints. The prints are self designed, unique and are an inspiration from the bohemian motives. In this clothing collection you will get to see lot of edgy silhouettes. Also we will soon be working on our next collection which would be an inspiration from pop-art.” Find them on: Website-www.shop101.com/WhimsicalWheeel FB: Whimsicalwheeel Instagram-@whimsicalwheeel

CAKE

“If only there could be anything to define how random the idea behind starting Cake was. It’s like one fine day we woke up and decided ‘Hey let’s make these really pretty things people can fall in love with when they see’ To be honest, there was always a knack in the two of us to start something of our own and Cake just brought out creativity and ambition in us. We saw a need to introduce our designs to the world because we knew they would work. In just about 5 months we received 3000 followers on Instagram, which was really overwhelming. The response gets better every day. When we sit to ourselves, just the thought that 3000 people like what we do is more than enough to keep us going. We’ve had great amount of sales, and got a lot of love and positivity from all our customers motivating us to keep coming up with more and more stuff. The difference in Cake and any other brand is mainly the whole idea of it being customised. It gives that personal touch when you can just have something in your choice of colour, design and measurements and the wallets with the name imprinted are a cherry on the cake! Being founders of an online brand we ourselves are major online shoppers. We feel it makes it a lot easier when you don’t have to move a muscle and you have exactly what you want at your doorstep. The online market is growing commendably and we are happy to be a part of it! What’s next: We’re experimenting some really cool and quirky slings next, won’t be revealing much about that right now. “ says Priya shah, co founder. Find them on: Instagarm: @cakeonline

We really stay in touch with each client from the point they show interest to the time they the products followed by a feedback. LAND OF AUGUST There are a very few Indian labels that specialize in high quality European styles (without mixing Indian styles in the same collection). Finally, there is a generation in India that is constantly experimenting with their style and wardrobe. It is a generation that is willing to take risks, demands quality and has environmental and social concerns. Their wardrobes consist of chic as well as classic styles. However, these are either of questionable quality or not from India! Land of August aims to meet their fashion demand by supporting the concept of “Made in India”. “We go through an in-depth process of trend forecasting where we study runway trends as well as the street style of some cities across the globe. We hope to offer the Indian customer quality, style and craftsmanship at honest prices. Whether they are too high or too low is upon the wearer to decide. We want to make the label available to more than just the elite of the country. By offering our styles to all sections of the society, we hope to also make a difference to the street style of the country. We aim to offer styles for every occasion: casual wear, work wear, evening wear, etc. We also plan to make the brand available internationally in the near future. In the long run, our desire is to integrate with the concept of sustainable fashion and also give back to the society in any way that we can. Our inspiration mainly comes from the culture of European cities. It is fine, it is diverse and it is elegant. The women are appropriately dressed at all times. Our current creative head is a graduate from Istituto Marangoni (Milan, Italy) and her travel experiences have also inspired some of our current collections. For a new brand, we are thankful for the response we have got from the stylists, bloggers and international buyers. The customers have responded positively but we still plan to make our styles widely available through various channels and hope to be accepted”, their team explains. Revamp Your Style Naaz Sheikh, the founder of Headrush Salon, who is also a hair stylist, accompanied by Ngalashing, who is a celebrity nail technician talks to us about the salon and enhancing your beauty this season. Tell us something about yourself as an individual? I have been a hairstylist for about 12 years now. It all started in Mumbai for me. After completing my hairstyling course, I interned at Juice salon and worked there for quite a long time from 2005. I also worked at places like Kolkata and Pune before coming to Hyderabad. Tell us about how did you start off with Head Rush? I came to Hyderabad in 2008, while working with Juice salon. But my sister and wife insisted that I open my own salon and it is they who encouraged me to strive in this direction. And I also have always wanted to have my own salon, so, I started arranging for things to open my place and fortunately I got to do that 2 years ago. And today I’m the proud owner of Head Rush. How has your journey been in this field? My journey in hairstyling and in the hair and beauty business in particular has been a complete bliss. It has been great. Couldn’t have asked for anything more.

Tell us your story related to your career? Actually I got pushed into hairstyling by my sister. It was my sister who encouraged me to join the course and then gradually I fell in love with it. It a very creative field. You are free to experiment. That is what I love about it. Tell us about the trending nail art and hairstyles one shall look forward to in 2016? I believe people should possess their own style that should represent them. It is all about who you want to be and how you want to look. Don’t go with the crowd, be yourself! What do your client’s love the most at headrush salon? Our salon is known for two of our specialities, hairstyling and nail art. All our staff are highly qualified and mostly come from Mumbai. How do you manage your work and personal life? To be honest, it was quite easy in the early days of my career but it has

been quite hectic with Head Rush since I have to manage a lot but I have the best support team with me, who help me in every aspect. What are the services one can opt for at Headrush salon? We currently provide, hair, nail and beauty services. we are using world class products for hair - MOROCCANOIL, TIGI, LOREAL, KERATIN, SCHWARZKOPF etc. For nails - OPI and much more, Beauty- O3, JANSEN etc. How is your usual day at work? Well, first I get up, go to the gym, have my breakfast and head to work. Then once there, it’s all about appointments. There is no specific time for appointments. Each of our clients receives treatment according to their need; hence we make sure we take our time. Then once done, back home and prepare for next day. What is your next step, in terms of your work? Next step is obviously to open more salons across the city. And hopefully across India. But my current focus is to break into the top most leagues of salons in Hyderabad. Glamour On The Go

Komal Khan, a makeup artist by profession chats with us about the makeup trends and how she manages her work and personal life. Tell us something about yourself as an individual? Hard work and simplicity are the words to describe myself, being a make-up artist is a very challenging job. The biggest challenge I think is that, make-up artists are required to be up to date with the current trends. Also with knowledge, the expertise has to be upgraded accordingly. I love to play with colours. I found this profession myself since it allows a lot of creativity. I love that while the tools remain the same, the faces keep changing and I love to make them more beautiful. Tell us about how did you start off with the makeup artistry? I am a very creative person. I love the word ‘beauty’ and make-up is something that enhances our beauty. Since I was a model, sitting in front of the mirror for hours wearing make-up inspired me to become a make-up artist. I love and enjoy my work. How has the journey been in this field? No complaints. My journey has been amazing. I feel very lucky; even though I’m not from South India, people of Hyderabad have always appreciated my work. Also without my husband (Shadab Khan), this journey could not have been possible, who also hails from Delhi and has been a major support throughout my life. Tell us your story related to your career? I started my career with modelling and trained at United Arab Emirates. I currently work as a make-up artist for T.V shoots, special events and fashion shows. I have been awarded the Best Bridal Make-up Artist 2016 from Hyderabad. What is the trending makeup guide for 2016? The best make-up trends for 2016 according to me are bronzed skin, glossy lips and soft pastel eyes. But the runway make-up this season threw a few surprises in the form of smoky shades, vivid red lips and strokes of brilliant colours. What do you do in your leisure time if you are not working? If I’m not at work, I’m for sure with my family. I absolutely love to spend time with my two year old son Ayaan. How do you manage your work and personal life? It’s not an easy task for me as I’m a mother; my family is always my priority and my work is my biggest

I arrive at my salon by 1 p.m. I start my day with phone calls and emails. I have a lot of conversations with my clients and employees. 10) What is your next step, in terms of your work? CASBAH

Casbah is a Mediterranean lounge by Westin, Hyderabad which ecstatically transfers you to a mid eastern country feel. With array of perfectly themed place and menu to go with it, it’s a great place to chill, or dine out. The evenings especially with breathtaking Moroccan lamps, arched ways and colors all around give you a relaxed and almost romantic mood. The chef scooped out some of the best things form the menu for us to taste while we enjoyed a slice of peace amidst tech city. We started off with a ‘Cold Mezze platter’ that had Hummus, Baba Ganoush, Muhammara, Labneh, Pickled Olives, Grilled Paneer, and Pita Bread. Usually offered in a platter of hummus and pita bread around the city, the platter here was distinctive and we were spoilt for choice. In appetizers chef brought us their finest in form of ‘Chicken souvlaki’, ‘Batata Harra’, ‘Kafta kebab’, ‘falafel with sumac pita’, ‘Paneer sashlik’ which were a total delight to taste buds. Chicken souvlaki (Chicken Skewers with Tzatziki), is a definitely recommended and so is the delightful kofte kebab which is grilled lamb cooked to perfection with juicy flavors. Main course was something refreshing in form of ‘Vegetable tagine with cous cous’, light yet flavorful. Desserts were followed with a more traditional touchwith ‘Saffron & nuts pilaf Baklava’ we also tried ‘Rose & date sorbet’ but would prefer the baklava any day. We were in on a dry day so the drinks we tried were mocktails and our favorite is undoubtedly ‘Just melon’ you can also try out their other marvelous drinks like ‘Watermelon Basil’ and ‘Ambrosia’ which are refreshingly good. Prachi Desai

Uninterrupted!

We give you an Exclusive with Prachi Desai as she talks about, the role of women in Indian Society, her upcoming projects and much more on International Women’s day. You are doing Rock On!! 2 & Azhar, tell us a little about the roles you play and the movie? I have experimented with my overall onscreen characterization. I play Sakshi who is more opinionated and new age. The role requires me to be in a completely new form so I have even worked for a more toned body. Rock On was the most unconventional debut one could have asked for. My role in the sequel is far more evolved. I play a strong, progressive and a pragmatic girl. I think this reason was enough to sign the film. If the first one impressed you, the sequel will blow your mind! On the other hand Azhar turns the clock backwards. It’s the first time I will be playing a real life character, putting a face to Naureen who has been a mystery to the world. Getting to know her in person has been a revelation. I have the highest regards for her. She is sublime, beautiful and such a dignified person. You know what’s been the best thing about doing both these films apart from being the most pivotal & diverse roles. The fact that I am paired with my favorites again! With the increase in crime rate on woman in India, what are your views on improvising the situation? I think it is important for every woman to learn self defense. The governing laws should be more encouraging towards the fairer sex so that fear sets into serious offenders. In general, for any crime to be curbed there has to be a sense of discipline and that only happens when there are stricter regulations. We need to conduct awareness campaigns all over.

Give us your definition of “a woman of today’s era is...” A woman of today is a woman of power, a woman of positive influence and a woman of meaning. She embraces her individuality and is not affected by what the world perceives her to be. She is comfortable in her own skin. She doesn’t indulge in small talk and when it comes to standing up for what she believes in or voicing her opinions on things; she never fails to make use of her voice. She follows her heart and pursues her dream without compromising on her values and morals she is raised with. On the Occasion of Woman’s Day, what message would you want to give out to every 46 MARCH, 2016 - TULIP

What is your take on pay disparity in the industry between an actor and an actress? Humanity requires both men and women and we are equally important and need one another. Why are we viewed as less than equal? Bollywood looks only at the box office numbers. If the film earns money, it is usually because of the hero and the director. But, things have changed a lot for heroines now, though not completely. I don’t really understand why we are paid lesser than the male actors because we put in equal efforts and recent past has shown that actresses can deliver a hit film. We deserve better pay, equal to what actors get. An actress can demand a better remuneration; unlike the bygone era when compared to actors we didn’t get much. It’s not enough to ask men to support us; women also have to support each other. Gender equality was historically women’s problem. When we step up for ourselves, we create opportunities, equal pay for equal work!

woman in the country? Happy International Women’s Day! Let us celebrate how far we have come and remember how much more we still have to offer. I honor the strength found in the heart of every woman. Together we are stronger. Together we change the world. To all the incredible women I know and the ones I don’t - I wish you opportunity, power and joy. I wish you courage in the fight. Tell us things that you are passionate about apart from Acting? I enjoy architecture and interior designing. At times I indulge in adventure sports and travelling to different countries. While picking out on a movie, what do you particularly look for in a script? Actors live in the moment. We are always looking for directors to help us by giving our characters something to do, moment by moment, each and every time we are on screen. The scene desire is also an extremely important factor in the dialogues that are written. I get excited when I read a script and the plot isn’t spelled out for me. I like this kind of problem solving. As an audience member I enjoy those moments when something important in the character dynamic has been revealed through a performance and circumstance and the dialogue has only indirectly illustrated the point. As an actor I love the feeling that I’m putting together pieces of a puzzle, not presenting the already formed picture. That’s boring! Actors may be here purely to make a director’s vision come true. Maybe, in reality, however, every project with an actor is collaborative because we are going to interpret the role in a thousand unexpected little ways. From speaking in a way you hadn’t thought of to dancing on certain words to fighting with the other actors for screen time. Everything we do will make the director’s dream a little less dreamlike and a little more “what the hell…” It’s what we do. Every line of action or description is prescribing our performance to us. When we have less room to interpret the script we feel less creative and eventually this leads to resentment. Unless it’s important, don’t tell me what the character looks like. It’s like when a script is being penned the writer likes describing the characters because he likes creating people and appearance is an important part of creating. Similarly when I’m acting, I feel the same way and want as much to do with creating the characters as possible.

SPECIAL

ass. Playing the double role and such an unconventional one is not easy and Anand L Rai is one of my favorite directors! Another one would be Bajirao Mastani. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is just a dream director and someday I would love to work with him. Tell us a little about Prachi, the person off sets? You should ask my close ones what the real Prachi is like. One answer you would get for sure is very contrary to the perception people have of me. I’m a fun loving compassionate person. Very driven, practical & sensitive. I am crazy about coffee, cats & cupcakes and I laugh a lot! Oh wait I have a quote that can make it easier for you. I am a paradox. I want to be happy, but I think of things that make me sad. I’m lazy, yet I’m ambitious. I don’t like myself, but I also love who I am. I say I don’t care, but I really do. I crave attention but reject it when it comes my way. I’m a conflicted contradiction. If I can’t figure myself out, there’s no way anyone else has. Describe your personal style in one sentence? I like to keep it casual, chic and comfortable. My style is not a runway replica. I like to create my own trends that reflect a part of who I am and where I come from. Be a trendsetter rather than a copycat!

Do you want do films only of a specific genre? I am open to experimentation as an actor. I think it’s only fair to evolve with every film. Very few people know this about me that I am one of the youngest actors of Bollywood who started off really young and all the roles I have portrayed have been very mature and intense. I would like to do a romcom, a love story or an action thriller, maybe in the future. The character has to stand on its own - be something an actor plays, not something that requires a specific actor. One actress in Bollywood whom you really look up to? There are many but if I had to pick one it would be Madhuri Dixit. She’s just evergreen and there’s so much every actress can learn from her. I am still left in awe every time I watch her movies. From the recent times I admire Vidya Balan & Kangana. Which are the films/performances you’ve enjoyed watching in 2015? I was blown by Tanu weds Manu returns, Kangana kicked TULIP - MARCH, 2016 47

She Believed She Could, So, She Did!!

Today modern woman is so deft and self-sufficient that she can be easily called a superwoman, juggling many fronts single handedly. Women are now fiercely ambitious and are proving their mettle not only on the home front, but also in their respective professions. Women in India are coming up in all spheres of life. They are joining the universities and colleges in large numbers. They are entering into all kinds of professions like Engineering, Medicine, Politics, Teaching, etc. A nation’s progress and prosperity can be judged by the way it treats its women folk. There is a slow and steady awareness regarding giving the women their dues, and not mistreating them, seeing them as objects of possession. Despite progress, the very fact that women, along with being achievers, also are expected to fulfil their roles as wives or mothers, prioritizing home against anything else. This point of view hasn’t changed much. In the 21 st century, India is fast emerging as a global power but for half of its population, the women across the country, struggle to live life with dignity continues. Women are not born, but made. With the women participating in nationalist movements to being pushed into the domestic household space, to their resurgence as the super-women today, women in our country have seen it all. Even the patriarchal ideology of the home being women’s real domain and marriage being her ultimate destiny hasn’t changed much. The matrimonial advertisements, demanding girls of the same caste, with fair skin and slim figure, or the much criticized fair and lovely ads, are indicators of the slow changing social civilization. If one looks at the status of women then and now, one has to look at two sides of the coin; one side which is promising, and one side which is bleak. Indian women, who fought as an equal to men in the nationalist struggle, were not given that free public space anymore. They became homemakers, and were mainly meant to build a strong home to support their men who were to build the new Independent country. Women may have left the secured domains of their home, but a harsh, cruel, exploitative world awaits them, where women have to prove their talent against the world who see women as merely vassals of producing children. The Indian women have to make her way through all the socialized prejudices against her, and the men yet have to allow and accept the women to be equal participants in the country’s way forward.

Step Up For

Empowerment

Every time I look into the mirror, I want to see a man whose mother, sister, wife and daughter are proud to call their own.” Farhan Akhtar

Pallavi Purkayastha,Twenty-five-year-old lawyer Pallavi Purkayastha was murdered by the security guard of her building in 2012. She fought back after he tried to rape her, so he killed her with the knife he’d bought a fortnight ago to scare her. He was charged with murder, molestation and trespassing. Farhan Akhtar, owner of Excel Entertainment for which Pallavi used to work, started Men Against Rape and Discrimination, or MARD, in 2013 after this incident to increase awareness and to encourage gender equality and respect towards women. Akhtar and MARD teamed up with Google’s “Helping Women Get Online” campaign to create an inspirational song to spread awareness.

One of the most vocal supporters of women’s rights, Kalki Kochelin had been a part of the satirical video that went viral last year – Its Your Fault! The video featuring Kochelin and Juhi Pandey highlights how every sexual assault is always made out to be woman’s fault and how it is the rape survivor who is always shamed and made to feel somehow guilty of a crime that is perpetrated against them.

“Women’s empowerment does not mean you create a complex among men. Then it will take 20 more years to empower men. It is all about evolving as a soul, as a human being. It does not mean that you become a sexist.” Kangana Ranaut

Vogue Empower, What happens when 99 women from varying walks of life come together to send out one powerful message. It echoes the thoughts of many women, who like in the video, “My Choice”, want every little decision regarding their life to be made by them. Featuring celbs like Zoya Akhtar, Deepika Padukone, Nimrat Kaur and many more know faces in it.

“It’s a very good initiative. It’s coming from a good space, but honestly I believe empowerment should be given to the women who actually need it, who are kind of, far away from where we are right now. We have been bred and brought up with luxury,” she added. Sonakshi Sinha “Elitist women have always had wrong ideas about feminism. They think malebashing… hating men…makes you a true feminist. I don’t have to make a video to voice my opinions. My actions have always spoken louder than my words. I’m proud to be a woman and I respect my independence. I’m never afraid to give my opinion on any matter. That’s what feminism is about.” Sonam Kapoor

The Power of ‘She’

Women of Today’s era talk about the different issues, inequality and lots more the women of today face. Let us know more! “Women, like men, should try to do the impossible. And when they fail, their failure should be a challenge to others”. - Amelia Earhart Anu Bunsi - Mrs. India Planet 2015, a mother of a five year old, an entrepreneur by profession and a freelance model. She is strong women and a go-getter; she believes that dreams never make you sleep until they are fulfilled. Tell us about your journey of Mrs. India Planet? It has been an incredible journey! There were about 3000 applicants all over India and 34 finalists in the end. Mrs. India Pageant was a four day event and we were judged overall on the basis of our appearance, elegance and poise, ramp walk, creativity, talent and the question and answers round. It has taken tons of efforts; determination and dedication that made my ultimate childhood dream of being crowned come true and made me the Winner! Tell us what you feel about inequality in the society between men and women? Gender discrimination continues to be an enormous problem within the Indian society. We find inequality of gender in various platforms of life, be it in work place or family. It hampers the overall well being because stopping women from participating in social, political and economic activities can adversely affect the whole society. There is a need for new kinds of institutions, incorporating new norms and rules that support equal relations between women and men. Today women are organizing themselves to meet challenges that are hampering their development. Your views on the increasing rate of crime on women in India? In India, violence against women has been increasing at an alarming rate. Sexual crimes, Domestic violence, forced child marriages, abduction and acid attacks have been quite prominent. Criminals act with impunity as they know they can get away with their crime. Unless laws are strengthened to punish wrong-doers and justice is delivered, this crime will continue to remain unchecked. It is the upbringing which plays the major role. We cannot blame the whole men community, but it is the wrong upbringing that feeds filthy thoughts into their minds.

What are your hobbies/passions? Working out and yoga is my big time hobby, my friends label me as a fitness freak. Modeling and entrepreneurship are something I am majorly passionate about ever since I was teen. Where do you see yourself in the next five years from now? As a successful entrepreneur who is providing employment to underprivileged women, making them financially stable and independent, sponsoring education and well being for girl children. Tell us something about your daily routine? It typically starts with my healthy protein filled breakfast followed by my workout in the gym to keep myself on the go, later office, meet ups and ends with a bed time story with my son. A strict daily routine is the key to success, eating healthy and on time, working out and spending time with loved ones is a simple perfect routine. Tell us about the responsibility you feel towards the society as

you have a huge title on you? As my Title projects “Mrs. India Planet”, I take huge responsibility on a Greener and Cleaner Planet. I conduct campaigns like planting more trees, avoiding usage of plastic and saving petroleum products. I truly support Swach Bharat, practice and encourage people to do so. On the note of Woman’s day, what message would you want to give out to each strong woman out there? Women are the most stunning of the many creations of God. You may be a Model or a mother, Mrs. India or a home maker, no matter who you are, being a woman you are worth it because you are the Creator and the universe is limitless for you in every direction. SPECIAL Dr. Kiran Krishnamurti, a pediatrician by profession has been into private practice for over 30 years in Hyderabad. She was born, raised and educated in Mumbai, where she met her husband Dr.Sudhakar Krishnamurti in medical school. They moved here in 1985 and have literally grown together. Tell us about your journey? The entire journey has been very fulfilling and rewarding. We have two beautiful daughters Ulrika and Aria. On the professional front, I love what I do and it is really interesting to be a pediatrician to my ex-patient’s babies. I look at my medical practice a little differently- it is not merely about colds, coughs and diarrheas. I enjoy guiding young parents through the whole process of parenting - from birth onwards. Tell us what you feel about inequality in the society between men and women? Gender inequality is more obvious now than in the olden days, when gender roles were extremely well defined. Now that the divide has become hazy with women taking many more responsibilities, men need to change and share the load. True gender equality can be achieved in any society only when the needs of men and women are equally addressed, when men and women have the same rights and opportunities and are given an equal platform in the process of decision making at every level. Your views on the increasing rate of crime on women in India? Crime against women angers me at a very deep and visceral level. What is even more infuriating is the fact that it is only getting worse. It saddens me to think that the Indian Penal Code has innumerable legislations for every conceivable crime - from rape, abduction, trafficking to torture, sexual harassment; dowry deaths etc. But, when it comes to implementation of this legislation, the less said the better. What are your hobbies/passions? Music and dance have come always been my keen interests. I am trained in vocal Hindustani classical music and in Bharata Natyam for many

years. Theater, books and movies also occupy a part of my leisure time. My all time passion is travelling and I have been extremely fortunate to have been able to do quite a lot of it. I am quite a foodie and love pottering around and experimenting in the kitchen. I have been a keen student of yoga and Pilates and continue to pursue them. On the note of Woman’s day, what message would you want to give out to each strong woman out there? Women should develop hobbies, cultivate support systems, do not ignore health issues and age gracefully. It is about enabling your mind and body to work at their optimum best. I take great pride in enjoying and nurturing every aspect of my pluralistic identity, that of a wife, a mother, a sister, a daughter in law and a friend, as much a pediatrician, a housekeeper and homemaker.

Varsha Reddy

Business Development Manager What do you think about today’s women? Clearly, women have made advances towards equality in almost every field. Today’s family model has changed, the traditional family structure of women as homemaker and husband as breadwinner takes up only 10% of today’s families which clearly states what today’s women have evolved. Women are stepping out of their drawn boundaries and becoming more versatile. As a woman what do you think your strengths are? I reckon the whole essence of womanhood on whole is my strength. Describe yourself in one word? Ha-ha Is that even possible for a woman to describe herself in one word? But if i have to, then, it would be, “I’m AWESOME” One negative aspect/fear of yours, you would like to overcome? I reckon, I should start believing in myself more than what I believe in other people. 52 MARCH, 2016 - TULIP

Harsha Maheshwari

Dancer, Zumba Instructor What do you think about today’s women? Women were always strong but women of today are independent and fearless. As a woman what do you think your strengths are? As a woman, my strength is to go beyond societal expectations and pressures. I respect my traditions and cultures as well as my passion to do what I love doing. And, I balance the two in my life. Describe yourself in one word? Happy. One negative aspect/fear of yours, you would like to overcome? Having my meals on time. I get so involved and excited when it comes to dance that I forget to eat sometimes.

SuhaniPittie, Creative Head and CEO, Zorya Fashion Pvt. Ltd

What do you think about today’s women? There are two diametrics to this. One is the urban woman, selfassured, self-reliant, confident, and independent. The polar opposite is India’s rural women who more often than not, are in the background, fighting their personal and societal battles. To say that Indian women have progressed would be only partially true. We cannot progress if we don’t take our sisters with us. But some things do tie all the women of the world today - our empathy, sympathy, compassion, patience, strength and resilience and I salute that! As a woman what do you think your strengths are? I use both my head and heart. Describe yourself in one word? Passionate. One negative aspect/fear of yours, you would like to overcome. I always put personal health last. I hope to imbibe within me, respect towards my health, so, I give it more priority.

We bring to you a virtual tour of emotions and moments captured by Shreyans Dungarwal. These women represent the different shades of women, one that can be found in a calm girl next to you or the one reigning high as a girl boss. Also, read an inspiring script from the thoughts of the photographer himself to know more about the inspiring story behind these shot mesmerising. “Fierce and not docile, Wild and not tamed, Empowered and not dependent, Free spirited and not scared. Is ‘She’. As she paints her own ‘self’ and does not let anyone else do that for her.” We always talk about equality but do we really believe in being equal? Saying it is a cakewalk, but putting it into practice needs major courage that needs to be displayed explicitly. Every woman is beautiful, not only externally for her appearance and demeanour but also for her implicit and hidden charm, the sheer innocence, the outright smartness and the immense love that she possesses and spreads. There is an immense power women are endowed with, which is both motivating and enriching at the same time. The Journey of the “ Not so Feeble Sex “ Over past few decades we have been hearing and seeing (witnessing mostly) instances of women getting raped, killed, exploited for various reasons or (most common) being harassed by men. What we tend to ignore is empowering and inspiring stories of women who are wonderful artists, amazing entrepreneurs, successful models, insightful teachers, credible home makers, skilled dancers, professional actresses and many more of them who are excelling profusely in different arena’s of life. Being a photographer, I have been dumbstruck by the work of endless awe inspiring female photographers from all over the world. So, in this series of photo shoot I have encountered women who have made a mark with their outstanding contributions in each of their unique fields. These are the same women we meet every day and the same women who have broken the stereotypes and outshone everyone and everything else. I am a foodie and in process I do visit a lot of fancy restaurants, we all do. When we are out there grabbing a meal we do appreciate and acknowledge the goodness of taste and hard work by chefs, but to be honest, everyone will agree when i say, “no one can beat mothers”. They have this magic in their hands that goes unnoticed at times. What I mean to bring to light is that, “It’s not the society, but we the people living in it who make the society that promotes gender disparity. By comparing and equating both sexes, we tend to neglect the beauty that lies in the differentiation and the acceptance of those elements that are unequal.” Women are creations that need to be understood and not tamed as they have the potential to be both the ‘nurturers‘ and also the ‘destructors‘, and that’s just one aspect of the varied, multifaceted and dynamic personalities. CUISINE

Glocal Junction

Glocal is an easy place to chill and hangout; it is unusual, innovative and has some great food on their menu. The place is grungy and rugged, which gives a much undone feel to it. Glocal as the name reflects is a blend of local food with a twist. The place has some great music taste plus a huge bar at the entrance which is very lively. It is very spacious; a huge group of people can definitely fit in to throw a party, with two floors of seating. The menu is really quirky and fun. One can really look forward to the cocktail/mocktail presentation out here with their creative pineapple, skull, carafe, sachet and many other different styles in which they serve that makes one certainly want to order a drink! We picked out for the Cinnamon based Vodka Cocktail, very spicy and unlike any of other drinks and a berry Mocktail which was sweet and Berrylicious. It was so hard for us to decide what to order, we decided to leave it on the expert himself, the chef started out with vegetarian platters that had array of appetizers like ‘Peanut & Tamarind marinated Cauliflower’, ‘Broccoli and Baby Potatoes’, ‘Wild Mushroom & Cheddar Kebabs’ a must try delight, ‘Grilled Paneer with Red Onions & Bell Peppers in Peri Peri’, and ‘Broccoli with English Mustard and Cheese’, In non vegetarian platter we had ‘Lazeez Chicken Cheese Kebabs’ before I move ahead this is the best dish I have had in a while, it’s a whole new level of sinful. We also tasted ‘ Churrasco Chicken Plate Steaks’ and ‘ Jose Chicken Kebabs’ ,‘Street Satay’, ‘ Mint & Coriander Marinated Chicken Drumsticks’ and ‘ Reshampatti Spice Botis’ , more on sea food side of platter ‘ LGBT Prawn Skewers’ ‘Salt n Pepper Grilled Shrimps’ and ‘Sriraja Jhinga Koliwada’ were marvelous. Let’s just say we skipped a lot of platter for flavorful prawns. Desserts, with so much to try we were ecstatic about what was served, after a long run of pictures, we dug in like crazy even when were stuffed with array of finest dishes by the chef. No words would do justice to how amazing their ‘Kalkatta Paan Cheese Cake’ and ‘Toxic Mousse’ are. On more lighter note you can try their ‘Masala Chai Panacotta’ and ‘ Firni Crème Brulee’. This place is all about experimenting with flavours and it’s a whole new level of experience with food on the whole. Ground Floor, Niharika Jubilee One, Road 1, Jubilee Hills, 040 33165688

YOGA WELLNESS

Health & Healing... Rejuvenate & Restore

While Yoga is known to be an ageold science (probably more than 5000 years old) that makes one’s body supple, there is much more to this ancient technique of complex twists, turns, stretches and breathe for healing and meditation that meets the eye. Yoga enjoys an unprecedented popularity globally; from celebrities to singers, politicians to the writers, everyone swear by an hour of yoga as a soulful practice for holistic healing. We have Disha singh, a yoga fanatic who shares with us a step by step guide of few yoga postures that you may try at home and also learn what they are beneficial for. Even though it looks easy, we request you to practice it under expert guidance. What you need: “The most important pieces of equipment you need for doing yoga are your body and your mind.” -Rodney Yee Words from Disha on her love for yoga - “The first thing I hear when I talk about Yoga is that, “I’m not flexible enough.” Five years ago, when I started I was anything but flexible. Couldn’t even touch my toes without feeling excruciating pain. But after all this time, all I can say is that Yoga has changed my life. It’s not about being flexible, but just a simple practice of trying, every day. This practice is life changing...or has been for me at least. Every day on the mat is a new challenge and every day I find out something new about myself. Yoga is medicine for the mind; body and soul... Get on the mat and change your life.” 62 MARCH, 2016 - TULIP

Cobra or Bhujangasana 1)

Lie down flat on the abdomen on the mat.

2)

The feet are together with the top of your feet firmly pressing into the mat.

3)

Place the hands under the shoulders and almost feel the elbows hugging into the ribs.

4)

Close the eyes, and as you inhale press into the hands, thighs and top of the feet. Exhale and feel them ground into the mat. Feel the belly drawing in towards the lower back slightly.

5)

With the next inhalation, press into the palms, extend the arms as much as they can go and lift yourself into Cobra. Keep the navels drawn towards the lower back while using the strength of the legs to help you stay.

6)

The shoulders and collarbones are broad and sternum lifted. You can continue looking straight ahead or, only if comfortable, turn the gaze slightly higher towards the sky.

7 )

Take 5 breaths at a comfortable pace.

8)

To release exhale and gently lower the belly, chest and chin. Relax and maybe listen to the sound of the heart beating in the chest to help you stay there in the moment for a few minutes. Repeat once again.

Goodness Tip: The benefits of Cobra are strengthening the arms, invigorating the heart, elevating the mood and improving digestion.

WELLNESS

Downward facing dog or Adho Mukha Svanasana 1)

Come onto all fours in table top with the arms shoulder width as the shoulders are just above the wrists. The knees are hip width and just below the hips.

2)

Walk the hands slightly forward to create an angle, press into the palms and exhaling lift the knees away from the mat.

3)

The foundation are the hands and feet so make sure these are right. The arms shoulder width distance and legs hip width.

4)

Press into the thumb and index side of the hand, feel the biceps roll up towards the ceiling, relax the shoulders and draw the navel in towards the lower spine.

5)

Try and feel as though the fronts of the thighs are pressing gently towards the back of the thighs. A slight micro bend in the knees is okay.

6)

If the heels are not reaching the mat it doesn’t matter. With time it’ll get there. You can also use a wall for this pose and place the heels into the wall. The stretch is intense for the hamstrings so using the wall is a good beginner’s option.

7)

Take normal, even breaths. Over time downward dog can become a restorative posture as well.

8)

To release inhale exhale and drop onto all fours.

Goodness Tip: The benefits of Downward Dog are that it boosts circulation, it calms the mind, it is good for the heart and helps to get things moving. It’s a fantastic pose to check in with the body.

Tree Pose or Vrksasana

*Be close to a wall if needed as this is a balancing posture. 1) Start from Tadasana or Mountain pose where you are standing tall with the big toes touching, heels slightly apart. 2) Begin to press down through the right foot completely and bring the left knee close to the belly or chest, as you lace the fingers over the shin. 3)

Place the soul of the left foot anywhere above or below the knee, where it is comfortable and feels like it’ll stay. Use the left palm to place the foot, as the right hand relaxes on the hip. An option is to place the left heel of the foot just over the right ankle so the toes continue to stay connected to the ground.

4)

Your gaze or drushti is on a single point in front on the ground. When comfortable, join the palms at heart centre in Namaste.

5)

Stay and breathe into this balancing posture for a few moments. If there’s a slight sway don’t worry. This is normal especially if it’s a first time trying a balancing pose.

6)

To come out of the posture, release the right palm on the hip and let the left hand help you release the foot back to the earth as you exhale. Take a few breaths and then repeat on the other side.

Goodness Tip: Tree Pose helps to calm the mind, strengthen the standing leg and improves focus and concentration. TULIP - MARCH, 2016 63

WELLNESS

Baddha Konasana or Butterfly 1)

Sit with your back against the wall if there is a tendency to slouch.

2)

Extend the legs out in front of you. Shake them out a couple times.

3)

Exhale and bend both the knees into the body.

4) Join the soles of your feet together and drop your knees open to either side like a book. The heels move closer to the pelvis if possible. 5) With the thumb, middle and index finger grab hold of the big toes. If this doesn’t work, just hold onto the shins or ankles. 6) Don’t force the knees down. Close the eyes and with each exhalation feel the thighs lower into the mat. Continue taking comfortable breaths, making sure the spine is tall, navel drawn in towards the lower back and shoulders away from the ears. 7)

Stay here from one to four minutes.

8) To release inhale and draw the legs back together, exhale and straighten. Shake it out as much as needed. Goodness Tip: The benefits of Butterfly pose are releasing anxiety or fear, stretches the inner thighs and stimulates the abdominal organs.

Warrior 2 or Virabhadrasana II 1)

Open the legs 3 1/2 feet to 4 feet distance.

2)

Turn the right foot out 90 degrees and the left foot in about 30. The right heel is in line with the arch of the left foot.

3)

Place the palms on the hips. Exhale and take the right thigh parallel to the mat. Take caution that the right knee is placed just on top of or before the ankle. If you can notice, try and keep the knee grazing in line with the second toe. Make sure the left thigh is straight in the process and the weight hasn’t collapsed on the knee. The weight is evenly distributed on both feet.

4)

Once comfortable with the base, extend the arms out in line with the shoulders. Relax the shoulders so they are away from the ears. Avoid leaning forward towards the right thigh.

5)

Turn and look past the right middle finger. Gaze soft.

6)

Take 5 deep breaths here. Begin to hold for longer with time. Inhale as you come up and exhale relax the arms. Repeat on the other side.

Goodness Tip: Warrior II helps to build stamina, strengthen the arms, back and legs, and opens the heart and lungs.

Childs Pose or Balasana 1)

Sit on the mat with the big toes touching and rest the sit bones on the heels.

2)

Separate the legs hip width or almost as wide as the mat.

3)

Inhale reach the arms up, exhale and release the torso between the thighs.

4)

Begin to walk the fingers forward for a deeper stretch, especially in the sides of the torso.

5)

Another option is to lay your arms beside the body, as you hold onto the heels or just let them fall to the side.

6)

Feel the length from the hips to the top of the skull as if being stretched from both ends.

7)

Make sure the forehead centre is resting on the mat, or a block if needed.

8)

This is a resting pose and you can stay here from one minute to a few minutes. Depends how you feel.

9)

To release, inhale reach the arms up and the torso lifts up. Exhale and release the arms beside the body.

Goodness Tip: The benefits of Childs Pose are to come back to our centre, calm the mind and breath and to restore a feeling of safety within. 64 MARCH, 2016 - TULIP

Grammys 2016- Taylor Swift wins best album, while Adele struggles and Justin Bieber wins his very first!

Taylor Swift’s 1989 took the album of the year award at the 58th Grammy awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Having opened the show with a version of her hit Out of the Woods, the singer made a defiant acceptance speech which seemed to allude to her argument with Kanye West. Swift also pointed out in her speech that she is the first woman to win album of the year twice and added: “I want to say to all the young women out there – there are going to be people along the way who are going to try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame.” Other famous women also had a testing night. Adele struggled through a performance of All I Ask which was bedevilled by technical difficulties in which her microphone cut out and an extra guitar, which some suggested was being played by Justin Bieber’s band warming up on the other stage, played over her song. The singer also sounded slightly out of tune at times. Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar won the most awards. The 28-year-old rap artist scooped five prizes: best rap song, best rap performance, best rap/sung collaboration, best music video and best rap album. Also Justin Bieber won his first ever Grammy after three nominations for ‘Where Are U Now’, his 2015 single with Skrillex and Diplo. The song won the best dance recording category, beating out tracks by, Flying Lotus, The Chemical Brothers, Galantis and Above & Beyond.

I kept on going and I overcame my fears and got over my insecurities,” she said. It was Kate’s third BAFTA win, after winning awards for Sense and Sensibility (1996) and The Reader (2009). She beat out competition from fellow actresses Julie Walters and Rooney Mara.

At Rising Pune Supergiants’ jersey launch, MS Dhoni says ‘will miss CSK players’

In a recent event, for the launch of the jersey for the new Pune team in IPL, MS Dhoni had such opinions to share, “if you want me to be politically correct that is not how I’m”, paused Mahendra Singh Dhoni, forcing a half-smile. If all of a sudden if you want me to say that I am very excited to play for a new team, it will be wrong”, he continued. If Dhoni’s eyes didn’t betray emotions, his words did. He didn’t supress those like many modern sportsmen are compelled to do. Though he did soon put on a veil of pragmatism, or at least attempted to. “I’ll be lying if I say I have moved on. That is the special thing about being a human being. For eight years it meant a lot,” he said. All the same Dhoni maintains he is professional enough to understand the inexorable demands of the modern game. He adds, “As a professional, we are supposed to do the job with more than 100 per cent commitment. As you enter the field, you forget everything and it’s all about winning the match”.

ENTERTAINMENT

MOVIES Movie Reviews

NEERJA Director: Ram Madhavani Cast: Sonam Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, Yogendra Tiku, Shekhar Ravjiani Defying every norm laid down in the mainstream Bollywood rule-book, Neerja coaxes a riveting two-hour drama out of a real-life tale of extraordinary courage. Neerja not only places a woman at its centre, it also showcases the pluck of a flight attendant who makes no distinction between nationalities when her passengers face a grave threat. Director Ram Madhvani opts for just the right emotional amplitude to bring to the screen the exceptional tale of a brave fashion model and flight attendant. is a film about a hijacking and a girl who did not let gun-toting and explosives-laden terrorists cow her down in the course of a hold-up that lasted 16 hours. But without the light that it throws on Neerja’s upbringing, it would be just another story of courage under duress. It is much more. The three main actors in the cast – Sonam Kapoor, Shabana Azmi and Yogendra Tiku – are on top of their game. Sonam is of course the lynchpin. Even when pushed well out of her comfort zone, she is completely convincing and real as the bubbly youngster with nerves of steel. If it is going to be just one Hindi film this month, make sure it is Neerja. It is a powerful story that tugs gently and delicately at the heartstrings. It does not go overboard on attacking the lachrymal glands. But when it does, it is bang on. DEADPOOL Director: Tim Miller Cast: Ryan Reynolds, MorenaBaccarin, Ed Skrein, TJ Miller, Gina Carano, Brianna Hildebrand. Deadpool is not your grandfather’s superhero movie. Come to think of it, it isn’t your 13-year-old nephew’s superhero movie, either. Blatantly, buoyantly vulgar and jam-packed with conspicuously perverse, often bloody violence - including a scene in which the titular protagonist, while handcuffed and suffering from a bullet wound in the seat of his red Spandex pants, saws off his own hand with a Japanese katana - the film has been touted as Marvel’s first R-rated comic-book movie. Deadpool, however, takes itself far less seriously than either of those films (and includes a snarky little dig at Blade II). Beyond that, there are a jillion other quippy, self-referential jokes about comics and pop culture, including the silly names for Ikea furniture; David Beckham’s surprisingly high-pitched voice; and a scatological allusion to Meredith Baxter. Based on a Marvel character introduced in 1991, Deadpool is the origin story of mercenary Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool - or as he puts it, “a bad guy who gets paid to (expletive) up worse guys.” Deadpool may not be the first Marvel character for grown-ups. But this “merc with a mouth,” as he’s known, feels like the first one with real teeth. GARAM Director: Madan Cast: Aadi, Adah Sharma, Brahmanandam, TanikellaBharani, Chaitanya Krishna, Naresh, Kabeer VaralaBabu (Aadi) goes to Hyderabad in search of job. He bumps into a Muslim girl Sameera (Adah Sharma) and falls in love with her. Varala Babu has another motive to come to the city. He is in fact searching for his ‘missing’ friend (Chaitanya Krishna). He saves him from the goons but he goes missing again. Rest of the film is about how Varala Babu succeeds in saving his friend and loved ones from bad people. Garam is not an entertaining film as was expected. Aadi has againgone for a masala film that hardly had any meat in it. Sadly the script of the movie is very weak, dooming its chances from the beginning. Garam is a tedious watch right from the beginning. Nothing gets better as the movie progresses. First half is unbearable with clichéd love track and boring comedy. First half seems better after watching the second half. The story has an emotional backdrop but the director failed to build an emotional bond between the audience and characters. The story does have some twists here and there but they go unnoticed because of bad direction. Garamis a really weak story and there isn’t a single moment where the actors or technicians made a sincere effort to save it from going down. It’s downhill all the way for Garam.

TULIP - MARCH, 2016 77

TAROT

Forecast For

March 2016

- Tarot reading by Nupur Heda Patil

Woman behind the future forecast: Nupur Heda Patil How would you describe yourself as an individual? I am a person who lives in the present. The ice-cream analogy comes to my mind here; you better eat your ice-cream before it melts away. I believe in making the best of whatever is at hand, being happy and spreading happiness. I believe in planning and action, by keeping future in mind, but I never let the uncertainties of the future cloud my present. I read the future, remember! How do you keep yourself busy on day to day basis? I swivel between my Tarot shooting (my YouTube series “Tarot Rani”) and house hold chores. Being an Army wife is a job in itself, wherein you are the part of social events back and forth. I am also planning on taking my HR career back on track very soon. How did Tarot make place in your life? I have had my cup of sour taste in life. I started Tarot when I was seventeen; I was going through a rough patch, and Tarot was something that I had taken up to help people and in turn help myself. Being the light in their lives made me happy. Hardships bring out the best in you; this realization has to come from within, so a rough patch is necessary in life. Learning Tarot is not a heavy task but it take years of practice to attain perfection in the readings. You meet so many people with requests and questions. H ow do you handle all that pressure and vibe? I meditate every morning; which not only gives me a clear mind but helps my third eye chakra to function smoothly from where my intuitions get directed. I was always strong in terms of understanding the aura and it is like a job to read people’s mind. Understanding them makes it very

PISCES (born February 19 - March 20) Overall, this is rather a good Month for you; there will likely be much going on in your immediate surrounding allowing you to become more optimistic about the future. You may get a little disconcerted or ill at ease by the pace and new situations within your workaday world that will arise making concentration almost impossible. Pay attention to what’ll be happening around you because new admires will definitely be within your existence. Now if you are single look forward to some fun romantic times and if you are happily married “there’ll be new romantic sparks”

ARIES (born March 21 - April 19) Watch those thoughts closely. Watch most likely during this forecast 78 MARCH, 2016 - TULIP

easy to handle their requirements and questions. I learned Reiki which helps me to protect my energy levels and keep away negative vibes. What is your most fixated Passion? Tarot was and is my biggest passion. My dream is to set Tarot at a larger level, and be able to reach out more and more people. Apart from this one big dream, there are a lot of things to follow, like a tendril that goes around a big old tree. I like singing and dancing too. How do you juggle between social, personal and professional life? I try not to mix these. My personal life is my priority. I am socially an active person and try to keep in touch with my family and friends. As of now my only profession is Tarot and it keeps me quite occupied, writing the scripts for my YouTube series and shootings on a frequent basis. Right now, I am living the best time of my profession.

cycle. Your efforts to get things done within a timely fashion will most likely be met with subliminal-resistance or subliminal animosity. You will not know where the stumbling blocks are coming from – but use quiet time to reflect and go with the flow. You’ve better advantages later as the month continue to unfold. It is time to stop allowing those around you to take your goodness for granted for goodness sake; can’t you see “you have enough on your shoulders”!

TAURUS (born April 20 - May 20) Feelings are good and reflect a relatively bountiful personal environment, even when others are upon hard times. Be generous, but keep the bulk for yourself, as this is harvest time. So, in your best interest, during this 30+ day forecast cycle becomes the time to be more alert than ever because this month, there might be another shoe falling! Make sure you

TAROT take time for communicating and getting in touch with old friends. Its okay to place phone calls, write notes and thank you cards, write letters, attend meetings, and run those personal errands, but make sure you focus on positive issues. It is a good time to reap benefits from earlier expenditures.

GEMINI (born May 21 - June 20) Extreme actions to torture revelations out of your muse may gain shortterm results but can be seriously risky to your inner wellbeing. Better to wait until you rise to the level of angels than to try to drag them down to keep you company. Fallen angels are troublesome, and you have the time. You are at an optimum period to follow suddenly arisen opportunities down the road to success. Big plans with big follow-ups will win the day, as long as you do not hesitate to grab the ring as it goes by. Original thinking combined with fearless action is the key. You have both to exercise them.

CANCER (born June 21 - July 22) If it feels right, go ahead, no matter how far out it seems! This is a time when inspiration goes hand in glove with opportunity, so be ready to invest in it and strike while the iron is hot. And save the extra stuff that you don’t have time to implement right away, it’ll be just as valuable down the line. This is, in general, a period when it’s more all right to experiment with the unusual, pursue original approaches, and follow those flashes of insight however strange they might seem. Partially, it’s because what you might have thought strange not long ago now seems lucidly obvious and everyone wants a piece of the action.

LEO (born July 23 - August 22) You’re in for a recharge of energy that puts your settings right back where they were at birth. It’s like déjà vu all over again, the fountain of youth... well, sort of. You may have had more get up and go at points, but this is more centered, like you can take it anyplace you want because it’s so familiar. What’s happening that may seem unusual now is familiar because you’ve been there before this very lifetime and you’re getting another shot at it this time with experience. Forces that have hitherto been buried deep within you are about to become manifest in your life and being, forces that will lead you to explore undreamed of realms.

VIRGO (born August 23 - September 22) You are entering a new, vibrant, creative upswing that, barring severe physical disability, will keep you flying for a number of years yet. The ability to listen to your own muse, regardless of external input, allows you a freedom unknown to all those but the newly born. This year at this time becomes a major stepping stone in your life, where you may expect to branch off into totally new, major directions which you will elaborate upon for the coming years. Be ready to make some important decisions that will mean abandoning the past and stepping boldly into a promising but uncertain future.

LIBRA (born September 23 - October 22) Your thinking cap suddenly fits better than ever, like new again, giving

you a rebirth of clarity and intent. It’s a good time to take a look at how you explain things and put down new roots for learning and understanding. It’s a youthful feeling, like going back to school again and opening new windows of the mind. Separate wasteful wishes from real requirements and you’ll double your pleasure in the end. You got a chance to gain materially so be patient and begin thinking (aloud) that you got all it takes to complete this journey!

SCORPIO (born October 23 - November 21) New frontiers, hot prospects, expanded operations are not hard to sell right now in fact, the soft sell will be the most successful. Whether you are promoting your affections or your consumer product, act as if it’s the only way to go in the world and is pretty much of an accomplished fact already. The more faith you have in yourself, the more others will have in you, and the more likely things will work out right for you, since everyone is expecting them to. The best way to expand your personal boundaries is by pushing the envelope evenly at a number of places, not just bursting out in a single direction.

SAGITTARIUS (born November 22 December 21)

Showing your feelings may not be the best thing to do right now. Keeping to yourself could save you from unwanted entanglements. Be staunch, do not stoop to complain, and you will gain the respect of all for your worldly reticence. Send requests through channels and things will flow more easily. Special projects (that deal with finances) should have adequate input by now and be winding toward completion, filling in details for days ahead. Health and wealth conspire to put you on the map, so tend your resources and they will tend you. Fitness and energy is as important as what is in your wallet, and that alone can give you the appearance of success.

CAPRICORN (born December 22 - January 19) Oh my, “you really do have some good things headed your way”! Subtle feelings and intangible but reliable intuition allow increasing buildup of emotional communication, as plans come ever closer to realization. Slow and easy swings you along at just the right pace, there’s no hurry to completion. It will come in its own time. Enjoy the journey. Addressing issues now (that deal with personal occurrences) allows for lasting satisfaction if and only if you follow through with your intentions! People around your (in your workaday world) are feeling insecure, so avoid encouraging any negativity you encounter.

AQUARIUS (born January 20 - February 18) Taking it easy and letting things happen will let opportunities continue to grow that are already underway. Situations beginning now will be cooperative and helpful to you as they progress. A general atmosphere of getting along together prevails and will continue to if you just go with the flow. Your desirability may be in question from time to time, and a little mending and darning of how you fill the gap in others’ needs might be in order. You can’t be all things to all people, however, so don’t take the occasional complaint too much to heart. If you don’t get what you want on the first try, try again.
