WHAT’S New? Filmi Tadka Restaurant Filmy Tadka, a vegetarian Multi Cuisine themed restaurant gives a feel of Bollywood, Tollywood, as well as Hollywood, making it a proper filmy restaurant, which is one of its kind. The theme being filmy gives a chance to its customers to explore its interiors, for instance, the chairs are designed to look like the director’s chairs, the round table looks like a record disc, lighting used are studio lights, and much more. They have diversified cuisines and South Indian section has cuisines from four different states (Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerela). The restaurant is worth visting and gets a big thumbs-up for the innovative ambience and great food. Shivam Road, Hyderabad - 500044, Ph: 078 42 407588

Food at your doorstep! Now order food just a ring away at your door step from www. getmefood.in. GMF began as an act of laziness, one day the core team were thinking about lunch, but were too lazy to venture out. When they started exploring web for options to order food online, they were stuck with only Dominos and McDonalds, as only these stores had their own online ordering portal. That led to the birth of GMF, a detailed research into this idea showed that the similar business model was followed in other countries and few places in India but at the same time it highlighted the shortcomings. They have an in-house delivery team thus making sure that even the small restaurants and telawalas who do not have the capacities to do their own deliveries are listed on their site. This also ensures in providing Free Home Delivery with better customer service. There is no minimum order limit and they are the only website that offers free home delivery! Shivank Kedia The best part of summer school is that you get to meet people from different countries, who for their passion to learn something new come together to have a unique experience. It gives you a lot of exposure, not only in terms of education but lot of other things. You get to know different cultures and of course make new friends! We can choose a course that meets our interest and also let’s us transfers the credits to our university or college. Studies are an essential part of summer school but on the other hand it is the city and people who make it even more interesting and easy to live in! I went to London School of Economics and everything about London is amazing. It was an amazing experience and it helped me grow as an individual and enhance my skills.

Shashank Gupta The whole experience of Summer School without attending London School of Economics is no good. It can simply be described in 3 words “Dream Come True”. The amount of exposure one gets and people we meet from different backgrounds and countries is just outstanding. The whole experience there leads to a better vision, skills to analyze various situations, being more confident and independent. In one word it could be said, that it contributes a lot in an all round development of an individual. The 3 week course leads to learning as well as improvising at the same time. I did a professional course in Finance and Management from London School Of Economics, through which I developed good cross-culture communication, ethics, values and intellectual skills which are very important in today’s generation.

office, I am up and running through my tasks and meetings for the day. My day at work goes smooth and is a long one. Work: There was a lot of responsibility on my shoulders since a very young age. I started working part time as a sales professional at one of the reputed MNC’s, while I was still pursuing my junior college education. After graduation, I started a catering business to which I dedicated a lot in terms of time and effort by working hard day and night. As a result, within a short span of time, I gained solid recognition and a strong customer base across the city. Post this, I decided to join packaging industry and it has been a wonderful experience so far. Evenings: During weekdays, I have my lunch in office and usually spend my evenings in there trying to wrap up work for the day, so the evenings are mostly spent well on completing my work. On weekends, during the evenings I spend time with my family with some shopping and dinner; we all have a wonderful relaxed time together. Family and friends: I have been married for five years now and I have two kids, I belong to the royal family of Late Nawab Aziz Jung Bahadur on my father’s side and my mother is a granddaughter of Late Hakeem Moizuddin who was the founder of Zinda Tilismath (Unani medicine), both are well known families of Hyderabad. My father is retired and my mom is a homemaker. She along with my wife, specializes in making “Badam Ki Jali”, an authentic sweet from the

time of Nizam and supply it for parties among friends and family. We are four brothers of which two are married and well settled in Melbourne, Australia and the youngest is currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. I have a beautiful wife who is a homemaker and we have two kids of which one just started in a play school. We frequently organize social gatherings at our farm house in city outskirts. We also enjoy shopping and travelling, I have been brought up in a conservative surrounding at home where in my parents have strong values and were particular about my behavior and studies. I have completed my schooling from Dubai and post graduation in Hyderabad. My family is a very important part of my life and the time I spend with them is always special. I have a long list of close knit friends with whom I am always in touch and catch up in person on weekends. The journey so far has been incredibly awesome and a collection of loads of memories as we move along. Dinner: After a long day at work it’s time to get home late in the evening, I prefer having my dinner with my family and spending some time with them. Then, I catch up with my close friends before going to bed around midnight. I like to maintain my professional and social life so that I do not miss out on anything in life. Weekends and Leisure time: Weekends are mostly chilled and a family oriented time. When I am not at work or with my family, I can be easily found in the company of my close friends, I enjoy long drives and dining out with them.

I have done my schooling from St Ann’s, College from Villa Marie and MBA from IIPM (Hyd). I have my own business of chocolate making, that keep me busy at the moment. I like watching movies, going for dinners with family and chilling with friends over coffee. I have a fetish for shoes and jewellery and travelling is one of my greatest passion which I try and fulfill time.” Lina on how the lifestyle has changed from her growing years to her kids. In our days we had more of a leisure time and we had a good balance between personal and professional life. Whereas in today’s fast paced life, technology and challenges have moved so much ahead that people hardly have time for personal matters. This being said, they do have more opportunities and options to choose from which helps them learn, become more confident and grow as an individual. Special memory: Ekta: In last five years, after my MBA, I have spent most of my time with mom. We bonded to an extreme and each day spent with her is special and memorable to me. If I had to pick one, then it would be the happiness I saw in her eyes, on receiving my first chocolate order and appreciation followed by it from a satisfied client. Lina: Every time I see my daughter achieve something in life it brings a huge smile on my face, be it her graduating, her winning any competition, or her starting something solely with enthusiasm and hard work. very amicable person, who loves meeting new people, share ideas, explore different parts of the world and experience their culture have inspired him to a great extent. Born into a family of entrepreneurs who love food has helped him understand all kinds of food from traditional to experimental, in an interview we try to get to know more about this passionate foodie entrepreneur. What do you precisely do? I ideate. I always think of new and creative ways to come up with products that are not in market or tweak current products to make them different. Although I am the Managing Director of Kokum Hospitality Private Limited, that owns and runs “Peperoncino” an honest Italian casual diner in Banjara hills, Hyderabad, I am an engineer by training. I was trained at Monash University, Australia but my heart was always in the hospitality industry. Through out my growing years, especially during the time I was in Australia, I had a keen 24 MARCH, 2014

interest in sampling and cooking food from the world over and was passionately learning and trying out ideas in that space. While I was working in an automobile manufacturing plant in India, and the frustrations associated with an unchallenging job, I decided to chuck the job and go follow my passion for food and trained at Cezar Ritz in Switzerland and here I am today running “Peperoncino”. How did you conceptualize the idea of “Peperoncino”? During my travel around India, from metros

of Delhi, Mumbai to two tier cities like Ahmedabad and Chandigarh, “Italian is the new Chinese.” I found the same in Hyderabad. I believe that while there are many restaurants that serve Italian in the city, there are none who serve honest Italian with emphasis on the cuisine alone. We at Kokum Hospitality wanted to bring those honest Italian flavors to this city. Also, we wanted a happy, bright and a family friendly place and incorporated ideas leading to the current setup. How has the journey been so far?

How do you balance between your personal and professional life? There is no other life for a restaurateur, besides his restaurant at least for the first couple of years. I quote my self when I say “any time you get is work time”. If I am not at the restaurant I am planning on events or a new menu or remotely running the restaurant. It is important to know everything that happens at the restaurant to enable learning from any mistakes that need to be corrected. Nevertheless, my passion to travel still keeps me on my toes. As I have to be around as a restaurateur, I travel to close by places within India exploring opportunities. What things interest you other than your work? Traveling and cooking, cooking is not just a passion but also a stress buster and traveling gives me the opportunity to learn. Sports A new idea or concept means teaching to a new set of clients, especially because you want to succeed, It’s tough. The journey thus far has been a roller coaster ride, few ups and many downs. But the motto is not to give up. The interesting part is that I get to learn along the way and for me learning is great. With so much competition in market, what is your USP that helps you to stay ahead in market? We believe in honest food with accessibility to middle class consumers in its true sense. We pride ourselves in serving near authentic, quality food at affordable prices. We believe in introducing global concepts into the market, such as the fast casual format for dining, which is alien to Hyderabad. It is a tough call, but we are different. It’s Italian, but it is near authentic, honest quality and affordable.

also interest me a lot which has come down to sheer watching rather than playing any for now. What are your future plans? I am bubbling with ideas, many creative ways to look at this fantastic Industry on the upward swing. Next on my agenda is to expand the brand by getting into Quick Service Restaurant model. A moment, which you would describe as your biggest achievement? Achievements are plenty but the biggest one is yet to be achieved.

The Political Drama Yes, it has all started again! To choose a person who will run the country efficiently, get a change in the society and help India be a better nation tomorrow. India gained its independence and a democratic status in 1947 and the general elections coming ahead will mark 67 years of its status. The major parties vying for top slot in the Indian political system are BJP lead by Narendra Modi, Indian National Congress currently led by Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh and speculated to be led by Mr. Rahul Gandhi, general secretary of Congress party and Aam Aadmi Party led by Arvind Kejriwal. Whom do you choose? Do you have a voter ID yet? Read ahead as we sum up some interesting facts about these leading men of our nation. Controversies surrounding these politicians Rahul Gandhi’s interview with Arnab Goswami where he was seen avoiding questions and giving improper answers. Well technically we would say they were memorized answers to the so not related questions. Arvind Kejriwal re-tweeting a controversial comment made by music director Vishal Dadlani on twitter stating “Stuck between a moron and a murderer....what now, India!?” which landed him to a social suicide. Narendra Modi, supported by Salman Khan which apparently drew flak from several quarters when he met him during the kite festival in Gujarat, even Salman didn’t know he was supporting him, as he was there just on a casual meet.

Rahul Gandhis’s take on Aam Aadmi Party “I feel that we could learn something from them, they reached out to people in a particular way that was good and I don’t think we should take that away from them”.

On avoiding a direct face off with Narendra Modi “In mythology, when we talk about Arjun, he sees only one thing. You asked me about Mr. Modi, you ask me about anything and the thing I see is that the system in this country needs to change”.

26 MARCH, 2014

Narendra Modi said “While Congress is immersed in Bhakti of one family after 1947, BJP is immersed in Bharat Bhakti, the Bhakti of 125 crore Indians! For BJP, India’s youth are not just voters but they are the nation’s power and strength. I appeal all youngsters to register to vote and understand their strength in the form of vote.”

And judgments are being passed against us, I think too soon. Please allow us to make mistakes, please allow us to learn and we will change because at the end of the day, the intentions are honest”.

Arvind Kejriwal “If there’s a need, I will again sit on dharna. Delhi police is not directly controlled by Delhi government. Till now what happens is, after becoming Chief Minister, if I had taken a big bungalow, if I had taken a big car, or if I had taken a huge posse of security men and then if I had called a senior police officer and I said that, look, now I want 10 lakh rupees (about $16,130) every month from every police station, there wouldn’t have been any controversy”.

We have Hyderabadi’s individual take on who is fit and who is not! “I am in support of Narendra Modi, his vision and road map for the country seems to be very clear, what I have been observing in his last 2 months speeches is his clarity of thoughts added with his personal trait of being decisive and no non-sense approach can foresee him fulfill most of his plans. At the moment, India certainly needs a change and not the same congress strategies (which has led to policy paralysis) or the unstable third front led by leftist. At the moment India needs a strong, stable leadership which is possible if BJP comes to power and Modi becomes our PM. My vote is certainly for Modi and I am thoroughly convinced. Alankrita Ranjan Asthana, Employee, The Park, Hyderabad

In the coming elections, I would support BJP as our country needs a change in governance and Modi looks promising. Though politicians never come with a guarantee, its much better than having Rahul Gandhi on the PM chair and again the same lady running the show. Kejriwal is surely a ray of hope! But as a party and a government they are still too tender! I hope they turn stronger and enforce their principles well! So that an Aam Aadmi can be a part of the future politics of the country. Sriram, Film Maker

Yes, why not vote and give a try for a new party ! Mr. Kejriwal, because in the history of Indian politics the BJP, Congress and others had enough time to prove themselves. In some cases they have passed and in some they have failed. No one has a clue of who is sincere and who is dope. It’s that no one is perfect someone or the other has some defects. When it comes to AAP I feel his thoughts and dreams about the nation are reliable and can be given a chance which makes no loss. I would like to tell other people to voluntarily use their voting right, and become more active because the youth helps to decide the fate of the nation, many people don’t vote because they say no one is good, all are cheaters. Voting for less bad ones would be better than not voting at all. Kamlesh Kumar, Student

2014 elections are going to be very crucial for our country as it will alone decide what we want our country to be like in time to come. I am pretty sure that with past one decade of misrule, corruption, mishandling of economic, foreign and internal policies we have stalled in our actual potential, thinking of re-electing Congress to power will not only daunt our ambitions but also create a bigger level of loss of opportunity that we have now. Narendra Modi definitely deserves a fair chance to come up and empower our country. A leader like him, his vision and his focus on development can definitely bring a change, he has done well for the Gujarat. People who say Gujarat was always developing need to seriously take a close look. Before Modi took over, Gujarat had the worse five years of economic growth, foreign investment had almost finished following earthquake and riots. Not to forget heavy losses caused by earthquake, even in HDI Gujarat was doing poorly before Modi took over. In last 10 years, literacy rate of girls has jumped by 13 percent, malnutrition has gone down by almost 40 percent in last four years. This is incredible!!! There is 24 hours electricity and no red tape. I like the ideas put forward by Mr.Modi and his efforts to boost manufacturing. This is one industry which can create crores of jobs. His ambition of manufacturing defense equipment’s is a good initiative. My biggest concern for Modi was Gujarat riots. But since SIT has cleared him, I am fully supporting him. You tube, Facebook and other social networking sites have gone viral with ‘THE SHEHZADAS’ interview who still promises to give the above in future to the country where in the other hand we people have witnessed this in Gujarat by their leader- Mr. Modi. MEN’S

WARDROBE

BASICS Button-Down Shirt Straddling the divide between formal and casual perfectly, these shirts are a worthwhile addition to any modern wardrobe. You will definitely get a lot of use out of them. Buy a couple of them in white and blue and wear them with everything.

Basics – something that identified the kind of pieces that would help build your new, stylish wardrobe. Satpreet Kaur jorted down few pieces which are generally appropriate for all ages and tastes, they aren’t flashy or trendy, but rock solid, versatile basics.

30 MARCH, 2014

Slim-Fit Indigo Denim Completely classic and timeless, slim-fitting indigo jeans are one of the most versatile pieces you will ever own. They are really easy to dress up with the slimmer cut ensuring sharper lines and a better shape. Indigo denim works well with almost any look you can think of and will never fall out of fashion. So it’s worth investing good money in a higher quality denim that will last longer.

Basic Knitwear Basic knitwear will be an essential component of your layering this season, and you will be wearing it a lot. A couple of crew neck, mid-weight wool or cotton jumpers in grey, navy or oatmeal are a great place to start. These staple colors allow you to play around with bolder shades within the rest of your ensemble and the mid-weight ensures that they sit on the casual side of the spectrum, which is much more suitable when you are just starting out.

Desert Boots Arguably the perfect beginner’s shoe, they make the transition from trainer to something more grown up effortless. Smart without being formal, the desert boot works with everything, from jeans to shorts to suits – it’s all about how you dress it up. A pair in light sand or stone suede will compliment every piece in your existing wardrobe, but you could also consider brown leather if you are looking for something a bit more hard wearing and seasonallyappropriate.

Plain Tees It might seem obvious, but you would be surprised at the number of men that don’t own a decent selection of plain tees. These are a throw on piece that you don’t need to think about and they elevate any look instantly, just by being unfussy and classic. Buy multiples in white, navy, grey and black and you will be set for a while.

Check Shirts The check shirt is the casual alternative to the OCBD. In thicker flannel or brushed cotton, these are a considered choice for winter and make great layering pieces – whether under a jumper or over a tee.

MEN’S PARTY SEASON/NIGHT OUT GROOMING During the holiday period a seemingly never-ending array of social events always occurs. Naturally, you will want to look your very best for each and every one – quite a challenge when you are busy at work, rushed off your feet or hung-over from the previous night’s shenanigans. Give Your Skin a Pep Talk By far the fastest and most effective way to freshen up skin for a big night out, exfoliation is something that can be done in a matter of seconds leaving a healthier and perkier look. Keep some exfoliating wipes handy for emergency. The big advantage of exfoliating before a night out is that you are then left with a smooth, polished surface on which to apply an appearance-enhancing moisturizer.

Shampoo, L’Oreal dry shampoo. Apart from freshening and counteracting greasiness, they also add a bit of volume to thin, limp and lifeless hair.

Photoshop Your Face In the last few years men’s skincare has come on in leaps and bounds in terms of its ability to improve the look and feel of skin. Use moisturizer, cleansers, matifiers that suit your skin best.

Spray To Play When it comes to staying power – something you need on a big night out – not all fragrances are created equal, so choose something that stays for long. Remember that where you apply your fragrance can also improve its longevity. Avoid the neck (where the pulse points only encourage a faster ‘burn rate’) and apply to your chest, back or biceps instead. That way the fragrance will be trapped against your skin but will still waft upwards as you move during the evening.

Freshen Your Hair In An Instant If you don’t have time to wash your hair before a big night out (perhaps you are going to a party straight after work) the solution is a dry shampoo like Toni & Guy Cleanse Dry

Get Fresh (With Your Breath) It’s a cruel irony that partying and bad breath often go hand-in-hand. That’s partly to do with the food we eat, the talking we do and the drink we consume. If you are at a party,

try reaching for some crudities or chew on a sugar-free gum. If you have more time to prepare, consider using mouthwash and a tongue cleaner/scraper before you leave the house. Oh! and hard as it may be, try to avoid the champagne – it may be the drink of choice for toasts and celebrations but it is also notorious for giving people bad breath. Don’t Forget The Details One of the mistakes a lot of men make when it comes to grooming is focusing on the face and hair and forgetting about everything else. In reality, few things matter more than your fingernails. Always ensure fingernails are neatly trimmed (cut straight across, ideally with nail scissors, which provide a cleaner line) and make sure they are scrupulously clean. If you need to clean them on the go then opt for corner of a business card makes a fine – and inexpensive cleaning tool.

MEN’S 2014 KEY COLOUR TREND: PURPLE It’s no secret that menswear has fully embraced pattern and color over the past few seasons, with many men becoming much more adventurous with their styling and clothing choices. Recommended Combinations: Purple often looks best with Riviera-inspired neutrals such as white, cream and navy. However, shades of grey and green can also work extremely well. Boost Your Business Style Embrace Brown & Blue The Italians have been doing it for years and we all know how well they have mastered dressing for business. It’s such a simple combination to pull off because the shade of each color doesn’t matter, just as long as they are together. Whether it’s a brown wool tie with a blue gingham shirt or a navy suit with chocolate brown shoes, incorporate this color combination into your nine-to-five looks for an instant shot of style and sprezzatura. A Business-Appropriate Check Not all patterns were created equal, and not all are suitable for the office. A check is always a lot more eye-catching and appealing than standard butcher, banker or Bengal stripes, but sometimes a multi-colored plaid or bold 32 MARCH, 2014

exploded check can be a step too far. For those who are looking to branch out from their collection of navy, grey and charcoal business suits, consider adding some subtle checked tailoring to your work wardrobe. Busy Pockets and Socks These are the areas that guys continue to neglect. Add some punch to your office wear by investing in some bold and bright pocket squares and socks. Because they both represent such a small part of your outfit, it almost doesn’t matter if they are in sync with the rest of what you are wearing. Don’t Be Afraid To Mix Things Up By ‘things’, we mean patterns. The key to any sartorial man’s success is his ability to mix and match what is available to him. In the office it is always difficult to fully incorporate prints and patterns without seeming too outlandish, but we tend to find that as long as you stick with two rules, you’ll be fine: Firstly, remember only two out of three pieces in your look should be patterned. In other words, always

have a least one solid item anchoring your outfit. Secondly, as long as the patterns differ in size, then they shouldn’t clash. For example,

try pairing a pencil check shirt with a wide striped tie and solid suit or a pinstriped suit with a solid tie and a plaid dress shirt.

How to travel? In reality, men don’t need a lot of options; they just need the right ones. When you begin to understand exactly what these are, packing will become an absolute breeze. The Bag First things first: the bag. You will want to pick up a medium sized leather holdall that can be used as carry-on. Lets say your time away does not extend past five days, which, with the right choices, a holdall can easily accommodate. Anyone who is telling you to take a suitcase is wrong – they only lead to additional hassle (trains) or increased cost (planes). Go carry-on and your life will be a lot less stressful and a lot more enjoyable.

are a stylish and sophisticated male. Socks and most essentials get folded, rolled and stored inside the shoes or available pockets, also include a small toiletry bag full of grooming essentials – toothbrush, moisturizer, face wash, razor, shaving prep, shower gel and a towel. As for packing technique, we found out that

rolling, rather than folding, is the best way of maximizing space when travelling. If you are taking anything even remotely resembling a suit jacket, roll it loosely and make sure that you hang it up in the bathroom when you shower so that the steam gets rid of the creases.

Travel Attire Next, decide on what You will be wearing for the journey. You are going to want to aim for something comfortable, especially if you are travelling for an extended period of time. So, think broken-in denim/chinos, t-shirts, knitwear and casual jackets. For footwear, especially when flying, you should consider wearing styles that are easy to slip off, such as boat shoes, penny loafers or a pair of trainers. What To Pack? When it comes to packing, you need to be ruthless. You want to make sure that every piece you choose can be combined with everything else in your bag, so consider sticking to items in neutral colors such as grey, blue, black, white and brown. This approach might seem a little boring or safe, but sticking to tried and trusted neutral colors can actually help you create a plethora of classic and timeless looks that subtly communicate you MARCH, 2014 33

FASHION Key 2014 Hairstyle For Men: The Modern Pompadour The pompadour is an all-time classic hairstyle that was actually named after the mistress of King Louis XV, Madame de Pompadour. However, during the 1950s Elvis sported the pompadour as part of his signature look and the rest, as they say, is history. The traditional pompadour is styled by sweeping the hair upwards and away from the face, often worn slick with swept back sides. This haircut is a lot more flexible than you would imagine and suits many face shapes and hair types. It is also popular with men of all ages, although the variation and extremity of the cut needs to be taken into consideration – the end result should complement not only your personal style, but lifestyle and profession too. As always, it’s best to ask your stylist for personal advice before getting your hair cut: However, the one downfall of the modern pompadour is that it can be an extremely high maintenance haircut, both in terms of styling time and upkeep.

She is optimistic, believes in a lot of planning and implementation with perseverance. Winning the crown has been a great change for her. For a person who was always involved in doing her bit for the society and helping the needy, this win has certainly given her a larger platform to reach out more people with more determined voice. Not only did she win the main pageant but Mrs. Amita Motwani, in a clean sweep won all the four segment awards Mrs. Ramp Walk, Mrs. Beautiful Smile, Mrs. Beautiful Eyes and Mrs. Beautiful Face. “After Mrs india in 2008, I got lot of offers from television but at that point of time my priorities were my daughters as they were too young and I did not want to juggle between two cities. But, when Mrs. India international happened it gave me global recognition, a larger platform to experience as well as showcase my talent. It was a great challenge, apart from being on the international level; I was just 10 months away post delivery of my 2nd baby.” Profession: I am a full time psychologist. I have fixed hours of charity, where I like to go meet young children, I visit orphanages, ngo’s and schools. Presently my husband is working in Indore, I have taken up responsibility of a school, where the entire responsibility of student’s education and welfare is on me. About how women are being treated: I feel compared to South, Central India is worse when it comes to women. The girl child is neglected to a great extent, be it education, basic facilities or value in society. Its very unfortunate that we come from a country where at one situation we pray to goddess and on other hand ill-treat women, it has to change from root, when a boy sees a mother being bullied by his father or a sister feels subjected to less importance than a brother, there is a format formed and everyone realizes that that’s how it’s supposed to be. The people have to realize that, doing dharnas or march after incidents happen won’t make any difference. People need to be united and act before anything happens. There’s has been cases and witness where incidents happen in public but no one takes a stand, people need to stand up right there and then, instead of mopping around later.

Your goals for future: I think my concentration is largely on improving condition of women, and girl child in society, there is lot to be done and changed and I am going to try my best to do what I can and serve the change. What was the last thing you did, that made you lose track of time: watching my playful younger daughter. I never know where time passes when I see her going all gaga around the house.

Miss India Gujarati

How was the whole experience of winning the crown? I always wanted to be a part of a beauty pageant because such contests incorporates personality, intelligence and talent. From the moment I started doing my hair to the moment I walked onto the stage everything happened so quick. When I had to answer my question on stage, coming up with an answer on the spot was extremely intimidating. Stage fright gave in and I felt a million butterflies flying in my stomach. Luckily my family and friends were there to support every step I took. Finally when the results were announced, I loved the rewarding feeling when my name was announced after the words “2014 Miss India Gujarati is Vaishali Patel”, It was a fun experience and everything was worth going through.

She comes around as a very straight forward person who likes to take things in her stride in a very level headed manner. She likes to live life excitingly as it has galore of opportunities and experience to offer. Adventurous by nature she loves taking up challenges, which gives her zeal and impetus to work towards excellence. “I firmly believe that one should always strive towards individual betterment in whichever form it may be.”

Archana Rao Fashion Designer

What are your future plans? I would love to see myself as an independent working woman in which ever field I pursue. How would you describe women of today in India? Women of today in India typically value self fulfillment and independence rather than the stereotype feminine ideal of self sacrifice. I would describe as powerful, independent, vulnerable and self-reliant who support themselves and have dreams and goals. What is your take on increasing injustice on women in India, with cases that come to light every now and then? I believe women’s suffrage is an applicable topic while discussing this. If we look back upon the injustice that women faced, then perhaps we can look ahead and spare ourselves from serving injustice like these to anyone again. However a woman has to make her own stand in order to face these challenges.

She is young, talented and content, though she is always striving to set and accomplish new goals, her job, family and good friends is all she needs to be happy.

Why a career in fashion? I’ve always wanted to do something creative, I really enjoyed painting and illustration as a child and when it came to choosing my major, Fashion designing was only one of the many options. After graduation in Fashion designing from NIFT which I really enjoyed, I went on to pursuing an AAS in fashion from Parsons School Of Design, New York. The journey so far has been remarkable, because with each year I have grown as a designer and set out to do what I planned. What are your future plans? Right now, I am focusing on expansion of my label- Frou Frou by Archana Rao, I want it to be retailed in newer cities and reach out to a larger clientele. I am also focusing on collaborations for the year 2014; our collaboration with Westside in creating a women’s wear collection will be out in the first half of this year. How would you describe women of today in India? The women of today are very confident and

aware of themselves, they know what they want and they are not afraid of trying something new. What is your take on increasing injustice on women in India, with cases that come to light every now and then? In India, women play a major role and have contributed in every field possible, unfortunately there still is certain injustice that is prevalent .The only way women can overcome this is by being independent and fighting their own battle. Being aware of their circumstances and knowing how to defend themselves and take necessary action when needed will definitely help. What was the last thing you did which made you lose track of time? The last time I got hooked for a long time was watching a new TV show called GIRLS. One thing you want to learn that might help you in future? I want to learn photography and maybe someday a music instrument.

Priyanka Painter

She is immensely caring, high-spirited and quick at analyzing situations by stepping in the person’s shoes. It gives her ability to understand other’s point of view in a better way than just thinking from one side. Tell us about your colorful journey? I initially pursued painting as a hobby and then I took up training for 5 years at PICASSO ART COACHING CENTER under the able guidance of Late.Prof Mohammed Aliuddin. When I got married, my husband (Nemuri Sai Venkata Ramana, Architect and Interior designer) encouraged me to start teaching and make paintings for his clients, I personally wanted to share my art knowledge and skill with talented people. So then we established PRIYANKA’S SCHOOL OF ART in 2003 and it’s been a fantastic journey so far.

“I can never be unfair to anyone. Low points of life make me feel low but thanks to colors and my passion to paint, they give me a relief and diversion from over thinking about stuff.”

Where do you drive inspiration from? There are lots of things that I get inspiration from. It’s the limitless capacity of our minds to think, some divine principles, emotions, beauty of nature, admiration of life which is unique, shades of colors and the capacity to express in an art form are some of them.

Women of today in India have “evolved”, from the dark shadows of life and have learnt very well to fight them. They don’t mind exploring new options for betterment of life. They are more focused on their achievements and establishing their own name and individuality rather than just known as a wife or mother of”so and so’s”. The balance that today’s women maintain between home and work is outstanding without forgoing the well being of the family. What was the last thing you did which made you lose track of time? My painting of Lord Krishna, which was for 7 hrs straight. I forgot that I had to stop somewhere. It was purely addictive. The very thought of his appearance is so mesmerizing. His life and his preaching’s are very inspiring. He has always been an important part and subject of my paintings.

prejudice. There is a lot happening in India, with toll free numbers to help women to lady cab drivers etc., I feel educating women is very essential though it may not have immediate effect, but the generations to come would reap the benefits of these efforts.

How would you describe women of today in India? Women of today are smart, knowledgeable & responsible. With the sweeping changes in the work atmosphere as well as society as a whole, they have become more risk taking.

What was the last thing you did which made you lose track of time? Spending time with school friends whom I met at a reunion after almost 31 years. And yet another time during my school Alumni in Chennai meeting my classmates, teachers as well as my seniors & juniors.

What is your take on increasing injustice on women in India? I am deeply distressed by what is happening to women in India. Though it was always there I am happy that its coming to knowledge of people, as some women have become bold and speak out without accepting the

Nasreen Munni Kabir Writer/Filmmaker/Biographer

Born in India and based in UK, Nasreen Munni Kabir is best known for producing an annual season of Indian films for the British terrestrial television channel. She has made great contributions to Indian cinema in the form of documentaries on Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Guru Dutt and a book titled “A.R. Rahman The Spirit of Music” on A.R Rahman and lot more celebrities. use in an unromantic scene or romantic scene. When you talk about their art they open up with interest and give you more information than you have asked, and takes it into a flow giving more insight in their life, work style and their passion for work.

How do you try to come up with innovative questions for your books and documentaries while most of the news is available on the net now-a-days? I come up with questions with a twist; it took me 3 years to complete my book with A.R Rahman as he is a very quiet person. When you ask a question you wouldn’t want to ask which is his next project but the craft and art he has used in that particular project, like what background score did he utilize in this song and what kind of instruments do you

If somebody comes up with an idea of having a biography on you, how would you feel? I personally would not recommend it; I don’t think I am a person who has made a history in the Indian Cinema. I don’t believe in promoting myself, it’s an uncomfortable idea. (Laughs) How long does it take for you to complete a biography? It takes about minimum of one year, excluding my research. You need a lot of patience, passion and ground work before you step up and ask them anything, you need to get your facts right and be sure about what you ask.

Which latest movies you think should have reached the Oscars? I can’t make that opinion, I honestly believe that there are some distinctive kind of movies they expect at the Oscars, now when the world is at a upsetting stage they want to see more political films from India. Your latest favorite movies I like Vicky donor, Kahaani and Ship of Theseus. A message for all the aspiring short filmmakers I think more documentary movies should be made and the length of the movies should be cut short, in this fast paced world a two and a half hour film seems very long. Also filmmakers these days just include things without a meaning; the dance songs in movies are so not required beacuse no one knows why they are needed dancing around when it doesn’t even relate to the story.

What is your take on increasing injustice to women in India? There was a time and still is a time where women are treated unequally in our country, when compared to men. I think the surroundings at workplaces really need to improvise a lot and many schools should tag on certain rules to educate children on this issue or rather parents should spread awareness to their kids about it, also women should be trained in martial or defense arts just in case to guard themselves. Where is the room that needs flooring located? - Before you make your purchase, do a little research. Each type of flooring requires a proper substrate to work, therefore some floors are not recommended for all areas of the home. 3. Preparations for new flooring: Before buying flooring, take detailed measurements of the room and create a scale drawing, if possible. Take these with you when you go shopping. 4. Look for low maintenance flooring: Choose something where you can do a easy quick clean up. It is important that you choose a floor that offers easy maintenance. 48 MARCH, 2014

Girly Things Guys Do & Vice Versa...

T

here are a lot of activities that are considered strictly for women: pedicures, zumba, musicals. Others walk a fine line: unfairly labeled as girly, but men still do them, too. They exchange silent nods and eye-contact in passing, as if to say, “Yeah, man. I get it. I kind of liked Love, Actually, too.” Here are the girly things guys will never admit to: 1. Crying during movies - Well this is most common myth, self acclaimed by guys who think crying makes them less macho! There’s also no shame in getting a little teary-eyed and its time for guys to accept that. 2. Over thinking the opposite sex - If they are not dating, every sentence and text is loaded with hidden meaning. This neurosis isn’t exclusive to one gender. Everyone does this. 3. Moisturizing - Dry skin during winter happens to males too, but they would never accept it openly or leave the dry white flaky skin in open. 4. Thinking about outfits - Granted it’s usually thinking, “Is this clean or does this smell like I was rolling around in garbage?” but still, they think about their outfits to an extent. Guys don’t usually try on nine different things before a date, but will throw on a pullover, look in the mirror and give themselves a small check. 5. Untagging pictures - No matter who the guy is, but every single guy in history of facebook has untagged at least one photo of himself. Maybe you even hovered your cursor over the “untag” button, but that doesn’t make you a criminal! 50 MARCH, 2014

In Serbia, girls loop padlocks on Most Ljubavi (“Bridge of Love”) to protect their lovers, a practice inspired by a World War I tale. And Russian newlyweds choose to festoon locks on tree-shaped iron structures along Moscow’s Luzhkov Bridge. Two magpies? You are fine.

As kids, I and my sister believed that postal vans carried wishes, as they were utilized to convey messages from one place to another. We were told this by our friends and we used to religiously follow it and make wishes on witnessing these vans, but as we matured we realized that they are just vans and have nothing to do with wishes. I personally do not believe in any superstition, it usually depends from person to person and their belief on it. The other half has an A for avloppsvatten, meaning sewage, but interpreted as a symbol

for avburten, signaling heartbreak or bad luck in love. You can guess which ones locals hop around to avoid touching. They say the bad luck can be reversed if the person who accidentally treads on an A receives three pats on the back—though it must be happenstance. Kissing the Blarney Stone, Ireland The word blarney came to mean flattery because of the grand tales surrounding the stone’s powers. Its past can be traced back a millennium, during which people have constantly bickered over its ownership. The bluestone block eventually became a symbol of eloquence, persuasiveness, and good luck (though different legends persist as to why).

I can’t leave the house without having my leather bracelet on. I just can’t seem to function without having it on my wrist. This piece of luck was gifted to me by my mom. It’s a huge part of my life; it does bring me luck in almost all situations, it’s very special to me. Saying “Touch wood” in the middle of a conversation and then literally touching the wood! In order to reverse bad evil is something that I tend to say and do a lot. Nishat Mazhar, Student

Mind Your Flowers, Russia Russian culture is rife with superstitions, and reading up pre-trip can be wise. Whistling in a home is verboten, as it is believed to bring bad luck (and is considered rude). When gifting someone flowers, make sure it is an odd number of stems no dozen roses because even numbers of flowers honor the deceased. Further, yellow flowers symbolize infidelity

your nails after dark, whatever the day, also is considered bad luck. And when interacting with locals, be sure to pass everything with your right hand, from keys to food at the table. It is a common courtesy that developed since locals would typically use their left hand to wash up after using the bathroom.

Superstitious people do all sorts of puzzling things. Believe it or not, stress makes people “more superstitious”. I am a little superstitious too. Few bad luck superstitions I believe in are: Friday The 13th, black cats–bad luck, cutting your nails after sunset. Some of the good luck superstitions are: Itchy palms brings in money, hiccups means someone is missing you, touching wood to be saved from evil eye and blowing candles at once on birthday makes your wishes come true. It’s that time of the year and you want to go in for a sassy looking haircut that would literally make heads turn and you look up your favorite actress and plan to proceed with that very haircut. Wait for a moment and think again. You have a specific face shape and the actress in particular, another. Having a haircut that doesn’t suit your face shape may make you look like an oddity in the least. Wouldn’t that lead to a complete disaster? Well, not all hairstyles suit all types of face shapes, but no matter what your face shape is, there is always a specific hairstyle that would look best on you. Knowing your face shape and the hairstyle that could make you stand out is a very important aspect while getting a haircut. Get ready for a major makeover as Ishna Rawlani helps you decide some of the best hairstyles that suit your face shape and let your face be a gorgeous guide to your hair!

For a Round face A round face has wide cheeks and non-angular features. If you have a round face then opt for a layered look. Ask your stylist to cut long layers with the shortest layer hitting your earlobe or even lower. Shorter layers up front to longer in back, like Gwyneth Paltrow’s current updo. With long hair, make sure that you angle the front, as one-length hair is too severe and can accentuate the roundness of the face. Long hair is gorgeous on round faces because it lengthens the face. Long side swept bangs work great on a round face. They angle down from there, which makes them fall nicely with the rest of the hair. Be careful with short hair if you have a round face.

For an oval face If you have an oval face shape, stop for a second and congratulate yourself. You have landed with the most versatile face shape. You can wear almost any hairstyle. You can go very short with your hair or flaunt short to longish bobs, long beachy waves, edgy hairstyles, top knot buns, blunt bangs or a gorgeous pixie hair cut. You could experiment a lot with your hair and never run any risks. An oval face would never disappoint you. Halle Berry’s pompadour is one suggested cool haircut for an oval type face. Feel free to be a chameleon with this one.

For a heart shaped face

For a square shaped face

TULIP

BEAUTY A heart shaped face, as the name implies is wider on top and pointed towards the chin. It compliments side swept bangs the most. Bobs are a great choice for a heart face. Say yes to bangs and long hair as they are super flattering (yes they show off amazing cheek bones.) Longer sideswept bangs and layers that fall around the cheeks also work wonders on heartshaped-face ladies. Jennifer Garner’s hairstyle won’t go wrong on a heart face for long hair. If you have short hair then Katie Holmes’s bob would do wonders for you.

You are lucky if you have a square shaped face, as some of the famous faces in the past and today have a strong, angular jaw line. Go for a cut that is both soft and layered. A classic long bob looks astounding on a square face with medium length bangs. The worst hairstyle for a square face could be a severe ponytail which highlights your sharp angular features. Long hair with side swept bangs softens the jaw line of the face. Long natural waves work amazingly on a square shaped face.

BEAUTY Expert Tip from Toni & Guy For healthy hair just using a good shampoo and conditioner is not enough, taking good care of both body and hair is necessary to maintain the health of your hair. Internal: Taking protein rich food and balanced diet helps a lot in hair growth. Peace of mind is very essential along with adequate sleep. These three are very important as they cause very aggressive and adverse effect on hair growth and condition. External: First of all, be regular with your haircut. Hair and scalp should be very tidy. Never leave your hair with dust and pollution on it. It is a wrong notion that daily shampooing causes hair loss. It is good to wash hair frequently and daily if possible. Not all shampoos are meant for everyone. Visit a reputed salon, get a consultation with the stylist and get a recommended shampoo and conditioner. With increasing pollution the regular commercial shampoos (available in local stores and supermarkets) are not sufficient. Give your hair the professional care with professional shampoo. Get a scalp massage every week with oils like argon, almond and jojoba oil. Never leave your scalp and hair with oil for hours together. Apply oil, do scalp massage and leave it for 1 to 1.5 hours. Leaving oil for longer hours prevent the root from respiring. Avoid your hair from becoming too frizzy or dry. It is very important that you use a lot of water after shampoo to get rid of all the shampoo, after all it’s a form of chemical. Never leave the hair with shampoo residuals, which may otherwise lead to dry scalp, and dry scalp is prone to dandruff. If your hair has too many split ends and frizziness, get it cut. Treat your hair as a living being and give it what it needs. SPECIAL

The festival of Holi has always been a boisterous one, we all Indians wait the entire year for this one day when they can splash colors over each other. Holi usually marks the happy transition from harsh, dark winter to brighter, warmer spring time. It is a phenomenon that resonates equally across urban and rural societies, but has many variations. While Holi, especially in North Indian cities is often characterized by groups of young men exuberantly tossing powder and water balloons, it is a holiday for everyone. The celebrations include various cultural programs, including the “Ras-leela,” a re-enactment of the romantic dance between Lord Krishna and his lover, Radha. The events are various around various “pandals in the city”. Did you know!? Holi celebrates the Hindu story of Prahlada. Prahlada was a prince dedicated to the worship of Vishnu, a major Hindu god. Prahlada’s father and aunt opposed his religious faith, and as punishment made him sit in the middle of a raging bonfire. Vishnu protected Prahlada and the prince did not burn. Bonfires remain a part of Holi rituals today. However, the most striking aspect of the festival is the spraying of brightly colored powders and water in enormous public celebrations. The colors mark both Prahladas flickering bonfire and the bright colors associated with spring.

How are Hyderabadi’s celebrating Holi this year? Traditional Holi Dishes

oli is a festival of colors and I being an Indian love to celebrate all the festivals on the calendar. Holi is the much awaited festival which has loads to do with colors, I feel that life is all about being colorful. Friends are the essence of life being so vibrant and colorful so to make the most of this all of us love splashing colors and spending time with them. This year we plan to catch up at a friend’s place where we plan on having a set up of music rain dance and yes not to forget the lovely and delicious food that we would indulge in and have a feast with bhang and colors, it’s going to be absolutely crazy. hough I love watching Holi being celebrated, I prefer not to get the harmful colors on my skin and hair. It takes days for the colors to wear off! As beautiful as they look, the dyes cause way too many skin problems. I am too cautious when it comes to this and how the colors harm the skin and hair, leading into great damage. I do not really like playing Holi because of this reason, I love watching people having fun though. Sonam Metpalli, Student

Summer “water park” Destinations

There was a time when a backyard sprinkler was all anyone needed for hours of cooling summer entertainment. But that was before water parks showed the world just how much fun could be had by mixing gravity, H2O and some highly creative slide engineers. Across the globe indoor and outdoor facilities sporting water slides, splash pads, lazy rivers and wave pools have made bathing suits a theme park essential. We get to you some of the best water parks around the globe, so next time you visit a particular country you know which place is a must visit!

Typhoon Lagoon, Lake Buena Vista (United States)

If it’s the motion of the ocean you seek, there’s nowhere better than Typhoon Lagoon, part of the Walt Disney World Resort. Its home to one of the world’s largest outdoor wave pools twice the size of a football field where two-meter waves are big enough to draw pro surfers. With a host of slides like the “Humunga Kowabunga” which sees riders hit nearly 100 km/h on a five-storey drop it’s no wonder the Lagoon is one of the world’s most visited water parks.

Tropical Islands, Brandenburg (Germany)

What do you do when the nearest genuine tropical island is a three-hour flight away? In northern Germany, the Tropical Islands Resort offers the world’s largest tropical indoor pool able to accommodate up to 8,000 visitors a day as well as the world’s largest indoor water park (at 710,000 square feet). Speaking of record-setting structures, the disused airplane hangar that houses it all is one of the largest buildings on Earth by volume, beating out NASA’s facility for building Saturn V rockets.

58 MARCH, 2014

The United Kingdom is home to numerous castles, but Sandcastle wins the award for most entertaining one. The UK’s largest indoor water park features a lazy river, a wave machine, and one of the largest water coasters in the world.

TRAVEL I’ve always been fond of travelling. During my stay at Hotel Atlantis in Dubai I had gone to Aqua Venture Water Park which is located inside the hotel itself. The experience at the Dolphin Bay is also amazing. I have also visited Yas Water World in Abu Dhabi which has an Arabian Fantasy theme; it was so fascinating that it felt surreal. There were rides for people of all ages, kiddy pools for the toddlers, massive water rollercoaster for the daredevils and slow white water rides for the elder people. I have been to a fair share of water parks earlier, but these ones redefined all water parks. I would definitely include The Walt Disney World Water Park in Orlando, Florida and The World Water Park in Canada. Spectacular rides and trilling slides make these water parks the most exciting part of a trip. Manju Saraogi, House Wife

Sandcastle Waterpark (United Kingdom)

Canevaworld (Italy)

It’s a park within a park. Canevaworld water park in Italy is nestled within a theme park called Movieland Studios. Even the brave of heart will think twice before plunging down “Stukas,” a 10-story tall water slide that’s almost perpendicular to the ground.

Summer is the best time to splash some water fun on you. I have been a water lover and would like to visit The World Water Park in Canada; it’s the place to be in summer. Also Water Kingdom Mumbai is an amazing place with rain dance, pools, rides, music and summer heat killing thrills. Visiting with friends and family to have a gala time and swinging slides under hot sun and cool water is always fun and that’s my every summer favorite. Sonali Kohli, Sales Manager, Adecco

Splish Splash (New York)

Water park in the Northeast may seem out of place, but Splish Splash’s unique rides keep business booming. “Dr. Von Dark’s Tunnel of Terror” is one of only three water rides in the nation that take place in total darkness.

Chimelong Water Park (China)

This Chinese water park covers nearly 1 million square feet and counting. It includes some of the tallest and fastest water rides in the world, but the main attraction is “The Behemoth Bowl.”

Aqualandia (Spain)

Only the valiant would dare ride “Big Bang “in this Spanish water park. The ride claims to stimulate free falling from an “incomparable height.” For those who don’t enjoy feeling like they’re falling down a rabbit hole, the park also has a multi-track waterslide where riders can race their friends.

Water World (Colorado)

Water World in Denver, Colorado successfully blurs the line between water park and theme park. Beware of dinosaurs, mummies and pirates on some of its water rides if you visit!

Aqualand (France)

This park on the fancy French Riviera is home to a double tube water ride that happens in complete darkness called “The Black Hole.” If you ride it, you can brag that you survived being sucked into a black hole.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio

Price - 3.90 - 4.96 lakhs After a remarkably quiet 2013, Maruti Suzuki has begun spreading its gigantic wings all over 2014. They begin the year with a brand new offering aimed squarely at the Indian market. The Celerio, if you are not aware of it by now, is a hatchback that will eventually replace the A-Star and the Estilo. The Celerio is built on an all-new platform that has been in the making for close to three and a half years. A team of around 175 designers, engineers, product planners and marketers, from both India and Japan have combined their efforts to this end. From various angles the Celerio brings to mind the Toyota Etios Liva, especially that smiling grille with the twin smiling slats flanking the Suzuki Logo. In fact, if you took off the Suzuki logo and replaced it with a Toyota badge you could easily fool anyone into mistaking this car for the latter. Maruti would like to usher in a new era of progress, they firmly believe that like the air conditioning and power steering became essentials over the last couple of decades in cars, automated transmissions will take over the future and they are going to focus their energies in that direction. India’s largest car manufacturer has even larger plans!

Tia by DC Automotive design firm DC Design unveiled two cars which will be available for sale in the country from 2016. While the ‘Eleron’ is an open sports utility vehicle, ‘Tia’ is a two-seater car for town use - the two cars were unveiled by Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan. DC Design Founder Dilip Chhabria said “We are looking to sell 500 units per annum of Eleron and 1,000 units per annum of Tia after its launch in 2016. We have invested Rs 50 crore each for the production of the two models so far and are looking at further investments in the coming time.” He also said the company is looking at manufacturing 2,000 units per annum of ‘Avanti’, which was launched two years ago, starting from the third quarter of this year. It has invested over Rs 85 crore for this model. The company was founded in 1993. It has an over 700-strong portfolio of unique cars/vehicles built and on the road. MARCH, 2014 63

ENTERTAINMENT Never Too Far

New Releases

Author: Abbie Glines The signature trademark of Abbie Gline’s writing and what most of her readers love about her is the simplistic plot she uses in her writing. She has an ability to create alluring characters with such chemistry, that it consumes the reader. The characters are what make her books so addictive. Never Too Far is exactly that, addictive! This book delivers everything a reader asks for - a great love story, sizzling chemistry and amazing character development. The book takes off straight after Fallen Too Far with Blaire returning home to Alabama devastated after discovering the truth behind Rush’s secret and Nanette’s hatred towards her, only to discover that she is pregnant with Rush’s baby.

Collide

Author: Sophie Jordan

Author: Gail Mchugh Collide both intrigued me and frustrated me in equal measures. The protagonist Emily’s character was frustrating. She is often naïve or ignorant of what her boyfriend Dillon is doing to her. The author is a doormat in the book, but it’s also part of her character development. Lastly, a talk about Olivia because Collide does end with a fairly intense cliffhanger. For a story that is sure to bring out the emotions in you, Collide fits the bill. Author: Lindsay Cummings

Book: Own The Wind

Author: Kristen Ashley Technically, this book can be read as a standalone, but if you haven’t read the Dream Man series, you are going to miss out on a good chunk of emotional impact. You will definitely feel the romance between Shy and Tabby for sure either way, but in order to get the full understanding of the book you really have to read them after the Dream Man books. This story flows well and is engaging. Their imagination was vivid.

ENTERTAINMENT More Legal problems for Preity Zinta Preity Zinta has been in news earlier for Ishkq in Paris, and not necessarily the good kind. In September last year, Abbas Tyrewala had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Preity because the cheque she had issued to him for his work on the film had bounced. Preity had retorted saying he hadn’t completed his work and thus, she didn’t owe him money. Now, she’s filed another case against DOP Nataraja for taking an advance of 20 lakhs and not returning the money, even though he dropped out of the film. This, in turn, has affected the schedule of Bang Bang, on which Nataraja is the DOP.

Ajay Devgn to Host Big Boss 8?

Rumours were doing rounds that Barfi! star Ranbir Kapoor as well as Lootera hunk Ranveer Singh were approached for the role. But now the latest buzz reveals that Ajay, who is also a close friend of Salman, will be taking up the responsibility. Bigg Boss makers have been on a hunt for a new host since Salman refused to reprise his role in the next season of the controversial reality show. He was annoyed with the public response following the latest season of the show which termed him as unjust and partial towards a few participants in the house. When Ajay was asked about what’s his take on being the host of Bigg Boss 8 he said, “I really don’t know. I cannot comment on that - may be I will or may be not. I am not sure.” He added, “Salman does it so well, he is watchable. I don’t know if I can pull it off like Salman. I have not seen all the episodes, but a little bit here and there.”

Actor Hrithik Roshan will not be a part of Karan Malhotra’s “Shuddhi”. However, he says he has decided to unite with the filmmaker for another film.”Karan Malhotra and I have decided to unite in the most ambitious way post ‘Shuddhi’. For now, I cannot allow a vision like ‘Shuddhi’ to stagnate any further,” the 40-year-old said in an official statement. The two have worked together in “Agneepath”, a remake of the 1990 film of the same name, which was produced under Karan Johar’s banner Dharma Productions, which is now producing “Shuddhi”. It is believed that he has quit the film for health reasons.

One Direction getting a Reality show

Big news for Directioners, and all who love, a good fly-on-the-wall boyband-themed TV show. Given the band’s recent antics, from Harry’s rumoured Kardashian girlfriend, friendship with Alexa Chung and co, to Liam and Niall’s recent twitter spats, a reality show on the boys could get interesting. But we imagine it will be as harmless as the One Direction: This Is Us film - and hopefully just as successful because “The Wanted” were the last boyband we saw on a reality show - and now they’re on a break.

Shirley Temple dies

Shirley Temple, the beloved former child star who rose to fame as a dimplecheeked redhead in the 1930s, passed away at her home in California recently. She was 85 years old. The actress was America’s top box office draw from 1935 to 1938, beating out such adult competition at the time as Clark Gable, Bing Crosby, Robert Taylor, Gary Cooper and Joan Crawford. Many even credit Temple with saving 20th Century Fox from going under, thanks to hits that included Curly Top and The Littlest Rebel.

Going by latest reports being seen in Bollywood media circles, Salman Khan seems to have approved the story of a well known Telugu writer. The person is none other than Vijayendra Prasad, father of S.S.Rajamouli. Media sources say that Vijayendra Prasad has narrated a powerful action drama to Salman, which impressed the Bollywood actor. So far, no statement has come from Salman’s camp about this matter. Telugu writer Kona Venkat has good relations with Salman Khan and Vijayendra Prasad might join that circle soon. Is this story a remake of a Telugu movie or is it a fresh new subject? Let us wait and see.

MOVIES Movie Reviews

Lone Survivor Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Eric Bana, Taylor Kitsch and Emile Hirsch Dircetor : Peter Berg The film is going to scare you, make you flinch and will leave you wondering about the ethical and moral conundrum that is war. This film is for war film junkies as well as those who want to understand the human cost of America and the war it is not winning. The performances are muscular in a film where action begins to take over not because of miscues by the director, but precisely because that’s what can happen in warfare. Directed with care for its protagonists (and by extension all those who loved and honor them), this film still plunges the audience into the violent predicament of its protagonists, and keeps us there. The actors also come in for praise for their commendable performances.

Gunday Director: Ali Abbas Zafar Starring: Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra Gunday is an unabashed love letter to the 1970s, the height of our romance with Amitabh Bachchan’s Angry Young Man. Though the story is set in the 1980s, Zafar recreates a classic ’70s vibe with punchy dialogue-baazi, scenes designed to make you applaud and a relentless background score by Julius Packiam that underlines every beat just in case you missed a high note. This masala mix works for the first half Ranveer and Arjun Kapoor are electric as Bikram and Bala, two Bangladeshi refugees who are inducted into a life of crime since childhood. The story is both implausible and clumsy, but sheer attitude or tevar, as we are reminded repeatedly, pulls it together. Gunday is an affectionate collection of clichés. Priyanka Chopra kills it in one nicely written, emotional stand-off scene, Irrfan Khan brings a sly amusement to his role of the cop assigned to break Bikram and Bala, and Saurabh Shukla deserves special mention; he shines in a brief role as the hapless lawyer assigned to make the boys somehow legal. Of the three stars for Gunday, one is for Ranveer and Arjun. Paisa Starring: Nani, Catherine Tresa, Siddhika Sharma Director : Krishna Vamshi Paisa is an action entertainer with a nice blend of romance and high entertainment quotient. Nani’s performance is the highlight in the film. Krishna Vamsi’s brand new story, Sai Karthik’s music, Santosh Rai’s cinematography, Tabar’s comedy timing and power-packed dialogues are other big strengths of the movie. A few unnecessary scenes, which bore audience, are its drawbacks. Nani’s performance in Paisa is brilliant, he impresses you in all kind of scenes like action, romantic and comedy, with his matured acting. As Noor, Catherine Tresa looks cute. Siddhika Sharma, the second female lead manages to impress with her glamour in a brief screen presence. Overall, Paisa is a good commercial entertainer, but it is not upto the mark of Krishna Vamsi’s previous ventures. Nani’s performance is the saving grace in the film.

Party Scene The party scene in the city seemed full of life and vibe where party-goers were seen enjoying the mid week as well as weekend parties with many new gigs in town. Summer is around the corner that calls for many pool parties to be witnessed by Hyderabadi’s.

We know that many pageant winners are proud of their title and love to flaunt the crown, but some people in our city like Mrs. R who won Mrs. India Popular went over the board to promote herself and wear the crown at every single event, posing for shutterbugs. An icing on the cake is some horrendous makeup which completes the whole look. We hope you remove the crown at least when you are off to sleep honey!

Know Your Fortune FORTUNE

- Tarot reading by Nupur Heda

PISCES

(February 19 - March 20)

The cards suggests that you will be turning lead into gold. We find your emotional life enhanced by a greater level of mutual compassion and understanding between you and one you love. Harmony settles within your closest relationships. As you attain a better balance between work and personal life, love flourishes and your instinctive creativity is re-energized. Career wise time is drawing close to grant a wish close to your heart. As this is pertinent to your career, what is it you most truly wish for? With the granting of this wish comes greater emolument for work done, or even money from a bequest or win is to come your way. That which is truly yours both by destiny and man-made justice is to come to you this month. You’ve become somewhat underwhelmed by something that once brought you great joy. A victory that will come your way in March will re-engage you with a circumstance that you’d thought had lost its spark for you. It’s with greater wisdom and clarity that you will approach the same issues from a different perspective.

ARIES

(March 21 - April 19) You will come to realize during the month of March that you simply have to do something about a relationship that’s causing you grief. As relations become more volatile, you will also find that an influx of money (or a situation that offers you alternative security) allows you to simply walk away from the scene of trouble. Ohh! Career-wise, you have really lost enthusiasm around your career and the nature of work on offer Aries. Financially, those successful actions you take in your sector of career will leave you feeling rather sensitive and vulnerable. You will have known in advance that there will be a downturn in income along with the changes you brought. That initial period of feeling financially bound will not last long. Have faith; money will come your way again fairly soon, as you re-engage with your career aspirations and find new happiness in your work. You will also find a certain satisfaction in a new depth of patience that allows you to rather enjoy the waiting while your endeavors mature.

TAURUS

(April 20 - May 20) The cards speak of turning away from the sorrows and problems of the past and treading on an entirely new path toward success and happiness. It’s a happier cosmic that will make you look back on this month’s advancements with gratitude. There’s been some trouble and quarrelling at your workplace in the recent past, but that will soon overcome. Although the card suggests that assistance with your finances will come your way from someone who loves you in the month of March. The lovers card in this sector has more to say about you gaining greater independence where money or income is concerned. There certainly is money coming to you, but it’s the gaining of security, independent of the circumstances or choices of others that will prove the greatest boon. You know Taurus, this month will see you becoming more and more foot loose and fancy free. You will find approaching changes exciting rather than disturbing. It will feel as if the sun is shining in your soul as well as in the sky. You know your material well-being is taken care of and will grow in accord with appropriate times and seasons and that new path you will be trading will be like a new lease of life.

GEMINI

(May 21 - June 20) March promises to be a mixed month for the twins and their emotional or relational life. You seem somehow stuck between the issues arising 78 MARCH, 2014

between a young and an older authoritative being. A journey or move away will be the solution. Your financial position, as well as your inner peace, will advance as a result. You need a period of seclusion, time alone away from work worries while you deal with events in your emotional life. Financially, after recent events that have swelled your bank balance somewhat, greater harmony settles upon you as you can make plans for a future, which is more suitable to your nature and spirit. You will overcome this and money will not be a problem for you. Overcoming the limitation that sits upon you where your lifestyle is concerned, is of major significance to your spiritual development at this point of time. Events occurring to and around you have a karmic genesis, designed to help you uncover that inner wisdom you own in order to make those necessary life changes spoken of in all the above sectors.

CANCER

(June 21 - July 22) You have had a recent disappointment about finances, which has left you quite worried about being able to provide for hearth, home and those you love. Relax, that what you have already set in action for financial gain, will in time supply that which you need to fulfil your responsibilities. All will look up from there, as renewal of financial hopes and wishes will be yours. What with those recent experiences spoken of in your sector of romance and relationship, you are understandably rather nervous about your career security and the attendant remuneration. The cards are telling you to take a wild chance with those creative ideas that have recently been emerging for you. The pursuit of those creative ideas advised in your sector of career will lead you to receiving advice from a person with credible experience in the field of finance as it pertains to your field of endeavor. Your spiritual lesson this month is in the getting of greater wisdom. Your initial response to obstructions in your financial or creative life tends to be anger. Heed the advice of that older, more experienced person who helps and guides you about financial matters.

LEO

(July 23 - August 22) After a period of celebration with loved ones, you will find yourself somewhat alone, possibly even lonely. You are missing certain people and yet it will become obvious this month that you need to gather your strength and put matters of financial planning above matters of sentiment. You may safely choose to undertake work that’s more attractive to you than it has been currently, but less remunerative than you could choose to undertake. Walking away from work, or aspects of your work, that have lost its appeal for you will serve your more holistic

VIRGO

(August 23 - September 22) Your emotional and relational wellbeing is very much enhanced by advancement in your financial or material state. March is a month wherein you can look forward to a win of some kind, perhaps even a bequest. There is a house move or purchase of real estate on the cards for many of you. As things run smoothly, harmony with a partner will be enhanced. Angel sees Virgo facing the termination of a dependency on an aspect of employment that has been particularly onerous to you. Even though these events will have an aspect of great relief for you, you may still feel rather nervous and vulnerable. Be joyous Virgo, these events are leading you towards your wishes concerning work to come true. Undertaking totally new career developments will be nothing less than a win for you. After finances are stable, even opulent, you will be embarking on a totally new path, leaving sorrows of the past behind. A journey will have relevant impact on your greater spiritual understanding.

LIBRA

(September 23 - October 22) There is a karmic element to events for Libra in March. In relation to an issue with a loved one that has been problematic for some while, this time a real decision can be made and justice will be done for all parties. You will be setting a confused life to order by a decision that is both honest and fair. A wish will soon come true. Angel sees you happily celebrating events in your career. It will feel as if you have been out of the flow of things for a while and are now right back in the mainstream. You have actually already done the groundwork for this advancement and will soon be seeing the rewards. There will be a rather sudden change in your financial status as the month progresses. This will likely have you rather worried, but just allow time to prove that you are actually closer than you imagine to your financial wishes coming true. It may involve undertaking up to three differing work avenues to form a solid income. The spiritual lesson here is about faith in providence. When one door closes it allows for another to open.

SCORPIO

(October 23 - November 21) Events of recent times have left you feeling rather raw and vulnerable. It’s time to find a way to withdraw from the flow of things and spend some time in gentle meditation and relaxation. There will be reason in March to go into battle mode to ensure that you maintain what is rightfully yours. Someone in authority in your work arena has taken a hard line that would affect you negatively. It’s your innate creativity that will give you the positive edge in this situation. You may well find your solution has you carrying a heavier burden of responsibility that you had expected, but that will prove very worthwhile. You have undertaken a whole new life path in recent times, leaving many sorrows of the past behind. Your hopes are certainly on the way to being fulfilled. Those recent events spoken of in your sector of romance and relationship have had a deep effect on your emotional and spiritual balance. It would be wise to seek some help in the healing of these imbalances. What is certain is that, with the necessary support, you will soon feel a renewal and regeneration settling upon your inner life.

SAGITTARIUS

(November 22 - December 21) All is beauty and harmony within hearth and home, amongst you and your loved ones. Yet, there will be the opportunity to take a chance, a giant leap into the unknown where the heart is concerned and that chance will be well worth taking for all concerned. A partnership, dealing or friendship with a rather wonderful person, most likely with a strong overseas connection, will be the catalyst for that leap into the new and unknown that we spoke of in your sector of romance and relationship. So, it’s your career sector that instigates excellent opportunities that will have strong positive effects across all sectors of your life. It seems it’s your time to enjoy very healthy finances and what’s more to see that nest egg growing. Money attracts money, so whatever you are earning will be coupled with money coming your way without you earning it by your own labors. You will, under the auspices of events embraced in your career life, find new depths of creative ability as well as develop greater confidence in yourself.

TULIP

FORTUNE

needs well, even if it means pulling in the belt a little. You will find you have to stand your ground when the decision arises to make changes that suit your soul nature better than past situations have. There will be those who will challenge, even obstruct your efforts to make these changes. Be incisive and unshakeable and soon you will see the growth of new positive possibilities that you hadn’t even imagined.

CAPRICORN

(December 22 - January 19) There are sorrows and emotional confusions and feelings of betrayal of the recent past that will be left far behind you as the month of March progresses. It will feel as if a great burden has been lifted as the powers of pure grace pour down on you, lifting your heart to joy. Under these beautiful rays of support, you will find out that you can confront any relational issues you need to change in a calm yet loving manner. You will celebrate a new inner freedom before the month is out. Angel sees you moving away from restrictions that have troubled your career in the past and with the help of friends or professional connections you will move forward to a situation of greater security and consistency. There will be something of a hiccup in your finances this month, Capricorn. Most likely it will be unexpected expenses eating into your safety net, but for some of you it will be someone trying to cheat you out of some money. This situation won’t have long term negative effects, but it will be well worth reading the small print in any documents you sign, or requiring written confirmation about fees to be charged for work done. Love with a capital L is applied to your acceptance of yourself as much as to those you feel love toward.

AQUARIUS

(January 20 - February 18) That which you have sown so shall you reap. You have sown much in the way of positive emotional giving to others over your life and this will stand you in good stead as an emotional journey of healing progresses for you this month. Since you have at least three avenues of professional interest, it seems that you’ll need to put at least one on the back burner in order to fully engage with a primary project. Choose the work that has least attraction and postpone it, even if this requires you to fight for the right of withdrawal. There is certainly money around you this month and into the future, Aquarius. Your most significant income is soon to be very much connected with travel or endeavors abroad. Make it your business to investigate the best ways to function around money matters in any country involved that might be foreign to you. Frankly, you are just exhausted and on many levels. Much has happened recently that has required you to be on the ball, managing many issues of concern without sufficient rest and release. Trust that this period of stress will pass and through these events much greater wisdom will be gained. Do make a practice of gifting yourself with some downtime alone each day to regenerate your spirits.
