told Oprah, reiterating the same line she’s used many times to explain her split from Kris Humphries. I don’t want to get into the small things, but once we moved in, I knew he was not the one. Kardashian never actually uttered her ex’s name during the chat, but she did open up about the aftermath of the divorce (which is still legally pending). I was in depression, I thought I was going to back away from everything, she said. I stayed at home for almost four months and I am a better person now, as heartbreaking as it was to go through, it was embarrassing. I don’t want to call it a mistake, it was a lesson. During her one-on-one, Oprah made sure to ask the question everyone was sidestepping - ‘Do you think you’re famous because of the controversial video tape of yours?’ Kim chose her words very carefully, saying, You know, I think that’s how I was definitely introduced to the world. I am not naive to that fact, but it was a negative way to be discovered, so I feel like I had to work 10 times harder for people to see the real me.

Bike Stunt

Outraged government officials in Thailand are lashing out at Mother Monster for tying the country’s flag to the motorcycle she rode on stage, while scantily dressed. Thailand’s Culture Ministry called the use of the flag while wearing a Thai headdress and bikini offensive and inappropriate, as well as disrespectful to the entire nation and is filing a formal police complaint over the matter. Good use of government resources there! Authorities reportedly don’t intend to prosecute Lady Gaga at least, which is good and not something to take for granted. The Thai people were previously upset when she tweeted about looking for a fake Rolex at Bangkok’s numerous street markets. Imagine if she did anything remotely controversial by her standards. Would they call for her execution? Fortunately, she’s off to Australia for the next leg of her tour, where she will most likely encounter fewer protests, death threats and cancelled concerts.

BREAKING DAWN PART 2

Small Glimpse

After their wedding, Bella and Edward travel to Rio de Janeiro for their honeymoon, where they finally give in to their passions. Bella soon discovers she is pregnant and during a nearly fatal childbirth, Edward finally fulfills her wish to become immortal. But the arrival of their remarkable daughter, Renesmee, sets in motion a perilous chain of events that pits the Cullens and their allies against the Volturi, the fearsome council of vampire leaders, setting the stage for an all-out battle. The suspenseful and deeply romantic Breaking Dawn, continues the epic tale of supernatural fantasy and passionate love that has made The Twilight Saga a worldwide phenomenon. 12 JULY, 2012

Launch Of Being Human in Dubai

B O L L Y W O O D

In the second phase of expansion plans for his charity foundation Being Human, superstar Salman Khan recently visited Dubai to launch a chain of Being Human outlets – the store will sell branded tees, trousers, jeans and watches. At a mall that the Blockbuster Khan visited, nearly 1,000 fans were present and waiting. It comes as no surprise because apparently, he rules the Khan roost for Hindi film fans in the Arab world. And that’s the reason he chose Dubai to launch his first store. Unfortunately, the launch event was not a memorable experience for the eager hordes. Salman entered the outlet, waved at fans, said a few quick hellos and left immediately, as the crowd went out of control. Fans started pushing the barriers and security guards, but luckily no one was hurt. This is just the beginning of the Ek Tha Tiger star’s big plans for Being Human in the UAE. He will open 100 outlets in the region. About a month ago Being Human merchandise was made available at ten stores in the world’s fashion capital, Paris.

BIPASHA BASU

To Tease Men?

The latest film to enter the list is 1982’s classic film - Shaukeen which starred Ashok Kumar, Utpal Dutt and A.K. Hangal; who essayed the role of old pals trailing and trying to impress a girl played by Rati Agnihotri while Mithun Chakraborty portrayed the role of her boyfriend. The film is to be remade by Rohit Roy and he is busy casting the right faces for this venture. It is notable that Rohit had earlier directed the short movie, Rice Plate; which was one of the short movies in Dus Kahaniyan. For Shaukeen remake, Rohit has finalized Naseeruddin Shah, Rishi Kapoor and Boman Irani to step into the shoes of Ashok Kumar, Utpal Dutt and AK Hangal respectively. And the big buzz is that Rohit’s leading lady in the film is going to be none other than the sultry seductress of town, Bipasha Basu. Yes, she will reprise Rati’s role in this remake. Tweeting about the same, Rohit wrote, Bipasha loved the script and agreed to do the film. But can’t confirm when we go on floors as the casting is still in progress.

SRK AND KAT MOVIE TITLED

Ye Kahan Aa Gaye Hum

Shahrukh Khan and Katrina Kaif’s Yash Raj flick, which was extensively shot in London, finally got a name. The movie’s name would be - Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum. A song from the movie Silsila; which featured Amitabh, Jaya and Rekha, will be a part of this movie. While there were

various options, both Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra were not happy with them. There had been reports that London Ishq was the title but the makers had denied it. Sources said – ‘Yash Chopra had more or less finalized that the film would be called Jai, but later he did a rethink. He preferred Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum from his controversial film Silsila. The film will also have Anushka Sharma of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi in a special role. The movie is a romantic flick and is said to be in the line of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. It is said to be Yash Chopra’s comeback film as a director. The film is rumored to be a remake of yesteryear blockbuster Daag (1973), but later it was denied by the production house. The release date of the movie is not decided yet.

RAM CHARAN AND UPASANA

Planning A Long Holiday

The wedding celebrations of Ram Charan and Upasana came to an end. The Mega family dropped the curtains of the event, which lasted for close to 10 days, after returning from their visit to Tirumala. Now, the young couple, who do not have much time to spend together, has left to an unknown destination for a short-break. They have gone for a holiday to a secret destination. The Magadheera star confirmed the news on Twitter. He wrote, ‘Taking off for three days on a holiday with Upasana after a hectic 10 days. Hope to be back for shoot relaxed and refreshed.’ The actor, who was undecided on the place, had told recently that the ideal location would be free from shopping and traffic. Adding to that, the destination has to be in India, as the actor has to resume shooting of his forthcoming movies. However, they will be reportedly taking a lengthy break, which is likely to happen by the end of this year, once the actor star wraps up the shooting of his Bollywood debut film Zanjeer and VV Vinayak’s Telugu movie Yevadu.

Success Of Gabbar Singh

Overwhelmed By Her Fans

Power star Pawan Kalyan is currently riding high with the thumping success of his recent release Gabbar Singh and many trade pundits are declaring that if he scores another hit with his next project, he will become the emperor of Tollywood given his fan following and the box office hysteria he creates. Now, it appears that Pawan effect is spreading into other cine circuits. So much that even his flop film is also being remade. News from Chennai is that Pawan’s movie Panjaa which tanked at the Andhra box-office is now being remade in Tamil and this will have the noted superstar Ajith reprising the role of Pawan. Though Panjaa received flak from Telugu audience, the songs and Pawan’s different look did score few points. The common factor is that the remake is being directed by Vishnuvardhan, the man who made Panjaa. It is heard that he is still confident about the script and has barely made few changes to it. Let us see how this works!

Tamil fans raised temples for Kushbu and Namita, thus making those actresses reach heights of popularity. Now they seem to be ready to raise a temple for Hansika, who is addressed by pet name Chinna Kushbu. As reports went abuzz that they already had chosen location and had placed orders for bricks and stones, Hansika hastened

16 JULY, 2012

to say that she does not desire to move. Fans are raising temple for Hansika in Usilampatti, which is in the vicinity of Madurai. A location has been chosen for that. Fans are collecting donations to get the bricks and stones for the temple. It is reported that construction of the temple would commence soon. Inside the temple, they are to raise a statue of Hansika and place her photos. Also, a priest is to be appointed to conduct prayers. When enquired with Hansika, she replied – Few months back, fans from Madurai approached me and asked my permission to raise temple. As they conveyed that the temple is meant for me, I understood their love. But it is wrong to compare a human with a Goddess. I do not agree to this. Fans should not build temple for me. I will not grant permission for that.

ANDY MURRAY

EURO FOCUS

Wimbledon Pressure

LAURENT KOSCIELNY Spain, Tough To Defend Against France defender Laurent Koscielny believes that Spain’s fluid striker-less formation requires defenders to be fully aware in order to ensure that the goal is not breached. Vicente del Bosque’s side were the only team to complete more than two thousand passes from their three matches and maintained a high level of possession in all their matches, eking out wins against Republic of Ireland and Croatia. But despite the impressive statistics, there has also been much criticism over La Roja’s striker-less formation as it potentially reduces the number of shots on goal but the Arsenal defender insists that the defending champions are fully capable of winning with their false-nine tactic. Koscielny pointed out that an important reason why Spain have become such a fearsome opponent is the fluidity offered by their formation as it makes it very difficult for defenders to establish control over the penalty box.

Andy Murray insists the weight of expectation shrouding his Wimbledon performance remains, despite Britain’s busy sporting calendar this summer. His

unconvincing preparations for SW19 continued when he was beaten 6-7 (5/7) 6-4 10-7 by Janko Tipsarevic at The Boodles tournament. It was only his second match on grass following his early exit from the AEGON Championships and he will return to the grand setting of Stoke Park, when he will play world number one Novak Djokovic. The 25-year-old insists he will feel the pressure as acutely as ever, even if the likes of Euro 2012, London 2012 and The Open are competing for the public’s attention. Every year it makes no difference to me whether a big football competition or the Olympics is on, Murray said. It’s the same because I always put pressure on myself to do well. Every time you play at the big events you want to prove you’re at the top and I’ll try to do that at Wimbledon. I reached the semi-finals last year and you want to do better every year you play at Wimbledon. It’s going to be tough! There are a lot of tough players around, big servers with big games who are very tough early on, especially on grass. Murray hopes Britain will be celebrating a summer of sporting excellence.

CHRIS WOOD

Escaping Cologne Lead England’s Chris Wood staged his own version of The Great Escape before starting the BMW International Open with a seven-under-par 65 in Cologne. Among a number of golfers stuck in traffic and worried they might miss their tee-off times, the 24-year-old from Bristol led a breakaway movement through the fields. We finally decided to leg it when we had gone one kilometre in 20 minutes - it was that bad,’ Wood said. It was about 3.5 kilometres and I was a bit sweaty when I got here, but it was worth it. The former England international, still seeking his maiden victory on the European Tour after three runner-up finishes, grabbed no fewer than nine birdies on the Gut Larchenhof course. There were also two bogeys on his card, however and with a seven-under-par 65 he finished the day one behind Australian Marcus Fraser and Paraguay’s Fabrizio Zanotti. It was the best I’ve putted all year, added Wood, perhaps best known for his fifth place in the 2008 Open when still an amateur and then his tie for third the following year at Turnberry.

A Day From Aamir Sharma’s Diary..

TULIP

LIFESTYLE I am a late riser. As soon as I am up, I have my smoke, a green tea and play with my kitten – Coco, which gives me immense pleasure in the morning. His energy and joy while jumping around all over the place, gives me so much inspiration. By 11 in the morning, I head out to site work. I visit 3 / 4 sites a day and then reach office by 3 in the afternoon. My presence in office is required from 3 – 7.

During 7 – 9 in the evening, I take time out to exercise at my gym with friends. If not gym, I would hang out with them outside. I have friends from all walks of life – doctors, IT professionals and who love to party often. I have friends who are a decade elder to me. They have been with me through my struggling days. I had a great time with them all! From 9:30, I spend time with Hameeda at home. We have dinners together. We go out for movies and parties. As soon as she goes off to sleep, I start my designing work. Mostly from 2 – 5 in the morning, it’s my designing time. This time of the day is quiet, peaceful and a lot can be planned. I smoke my cigarettes and make a lot of designs, either in my drawing room or on dinner table. The only person who accompanies me is my pet. The reason why I work during these timings is, during my struggling years, I used to work all night at the sites, sleep during the day and wake up in the afternoons. As a result, a decade gone by, but the habit never died. My lunch is always on the go. It could be a sandwich or any snack from Subway.

Every day I plan on how to enhance my designing skills and how to offer better to my clients. Expectations these days are so much that my mind is constantly occupied in ameliorating my field of interest. MY SUCCESS PHRASE Honesty is vital, irrespective of any profession. Help the needy around you always. Help your friends with your own business. There are no short-cuts to success – there is only hard work. Coming to my profession; one has to be a sharp and a smart businessman and equally sharp in understanding human psychology – because you deal with people from every walk of life. One has to be extremely creative too. There are many out there who could have made it and who could have easily replaced me, but if these elements are missing, then success is uncertain. 30 JULY, 2012

I had a hobby of collecting superbikes. But I almost killed myself once in 2007 during a bike crash. That incident changed my life. I had been through bad and good things which have taught me so much.

HOW TRAVELLING INSPIRES ME... Travelling is certainly a priority. It motivates me professionally inspiring me to create better and unparalleled designs. I try to inculcate different cultures into my designs. So travelling helps me a lot. It is more like an investment. The more I travel, the more knowledgeable I am. My first trip to Malaysia in 2002 will remain an unforgettable experience, for I lost all my money and luggage, stranded in an outside country and had no way to come back. But I didn’t give up! I went there for seven days and came back within seven days. After that I’ve been on many holidays which, in many ways have motivated me.

Hameeda and I ran away from our homes under difficult circumstances and got married in 1998. We both have done Diploma in Interior Designing. Working for the firm - Siraj and Renu architects for a year fetched me so much knowledge. As a draftsman attaining instructions from seniors, I learned what interior designing is all about. In 2004, for the first time; we won state level IIID award in residential spaces, as runner-ups. In 2005, we won south India level award in IIID again for another residential project. Hameeda and I have then realized that one of us has to diversify into non-residential designs in order to gain more recognition. We also won the century ply award under best restaurant design for Urban Asia. I take pride in representing Hyderabad as an interior designer.

M O V I E S

ICE AGE – CONTINENTAL DRIFT TERI MERI KAHANI A tale of love and passion that straddles three different eras, the film resorts to much trans-migratory mumbo-jumbo in trying to establish that an amorous bond of minds and souls survive the cycle of life and death and regenerates itself with every birth. The film is only two hours long and yet it trudges down its hazy path rather sluggishly and worse still, goes nowhere in particular. Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, who hog the footage three times over, are perfectly at ease in all the incarnations that they are called upon to flesh out. The trouble is that the separate time zones, despite the attempts to differentiate the backdrops through the use of altered colour schemes and culturespecific musical sounds, do not quite stand out as distinct milieus. Teri Meri Kahaani is flat and fluffy for the most part.

Director – Steve Martino and Mike Thurmeier Cast – Queen Latifah, Ray Romano, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo and others. Manny, Diego and Sid embark upon another adventure after their continent is set adrift. Using an iceberg as a ship, they encounter sea creatures and battle pirates as they explore a new world. Taking place a few years after the events of Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Scrat’s pursuit of the acorn has world-changing consequences, forcing Manny, Sid and Diego on an adventure, where Sid reunites with his long lost family, Diego finds his love interest, Shira. THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Director – Christopher Nolan Cast - Christian Bale , Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and others. Following the death of district attorney Harvey Dent, Batman assumes responsibility for dents crimes in order to protect dent’s reputation and is hunted as a fugitive by the Gotham City Police Department. Eight years after the events of the Dark Knight, Gotham has recovered from the joker’s killing spree, and is experiencing a time of peace. A warning from the enigmatic Selina Kyle foreshadows a coming cataclysm, prompting Batman to return to the city where he must stop the villain Bane and his plans to destroy Gotham.

MADAGASCAR 3 Madagascar 3 takes off from where Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa ended. Penguins Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private are their tickets to New York, what with their super van-cum-airplane equipped fully with GPS navigation and other military intelligence paraphernalia. But there’s a hitch - Alex is on animal control officer Chantel DuBois’ Most Wanted list. The wily, exaggeratedly evil-looking, gravity-defying DuBois’ shuttles between scooters and makeshift airplanes, all so that Alex’s ‘excessively hair-conditioned’ mane can adorn her wall of prized animal heads. Her flights of fury ensure scooter chases that could give any action film a run for its money. Alex, Marty, Gloria and Melman reach Italy, London and finally, New York. On the way they manage to convince Vitaly the Siberian Tiger and Gia the Leopard to take them onboard a circus train, obviously lying about being circus animals themselves. With uproarious chases, smart penguin chatter, love blooming between Alex and Gia and King Julien’s hilarious display of affection for Sonia the Bear, Madagascar 3 makes for a more than delightful watch. 32 JULY, 2012

THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES Director - Lauren Greenfield Cast - Jackie Siegel, David Siegel and Virginia Nebab A documentary that follows a billionaire couple as they begin construction on a mansion inspired by Versailles. During the next two years, their empire, fueled by the real estate bubble and cheap money, falters due to the economic crisis. As the threat of losing it all, David’s personality undergoes a marked shift from boastful billionaire to tired old man, but Jackie soldiers on with a bright smile. Greenfield makes sure we get the sense of what they are going through. The film acquires an appropriately game-changing vibe to match the family’s situation.

t is the sixth book by acclaimed author, Chris Kuzneski. Although his work has previously been described as having raw power, the same appeal does not read in this book. Hidden among the crates in a recently discovered World War II bunker, are documents stamped with an elaborate black swan, the insignia of the murdered King Ludwig II. According to legend, Ludwig stockpiled a massive treasure in the years before his death, a cache of gold and jewels which would finance the construction of the largest castle of all time. But in the years since his death, no one has found any evidence that Ludwig had hid anything. Jonathon Payne and David Jones are pulled into the mystery by a colleague of theirs, a former supply sergeant in the U.S. military who asks them to investigate. They agree to help and quickly find themselves in a life-or-death struggle to uncover the truth about Ludwig’s murder and his mythical treasure. From the mountains of Bavaria to the secret tunnels underneath Ludwig’s castles, no one is safe when they search for the Secret Crown.

I have always been passionate about clothes. As a kid, I used to enjoy sketching. Art was my favourite subject during my college days. I always excelled in Arts, though I am a graduate in Psychology, but always believed art was the best way to express myself. It has become an integral part of my life. So, it was an obvious choice for me to choose fashion as my field of interest. I think Indian fashion has a lot of potential and with the right choices, we can forge ahead. But I wish there are not too many fashion weeks happening in India.

‘To reinvent your line and to come up with new ideas; while living your design philosophy, is the toughest aspect of being a fashion designer. A successful fashion designer in a country like India; requires the right combination of hard work, talent and visibility.’ Paris is my favourite fashion capital in the world. It is one city which brings together the best of architecture, food and design. From effortless fashion on the streets to Haute Couture on the runway, it has it all. Though events like Wills and Lakme Fashion weeks are on par with international fashion weeks, we are still a fledgling industry and have a long way to go.

Asm ita Ma rwa I admire designers like - Dolce & Gabbana and Yohji Yamamoto.

The designs available for wedding at my store, are for both women and men. A graduate from NIFT, I am known for elegant and opulent designs. I love to innovate constantly with clothes. The price range at my store begins from Rs. 6500/- onwards. But more than that, the prices vary according to their specifications.

‘Today, it is perfectly acceptable for a man to flaunt colours. However, it is integral to cleverly blend it with some masculine shades to achieve the right look. The favorite colours for most Indians grooms are light and sober, swinging between cream and beige or even light green or cocoa-brown.’ Purple continues to be popular either as the main colour theme or an accent. For summer the colours are bright and tropical. For winter, metallics make a comeback. Silvers and gold could be used, but should be paired with shades from nature such as - amethyst, moss or chocolate browns. Sherwanis look utterly stylish, regal and are perfect for the wedding. For the reception wear, grooms prefer a western influence; so we do a bandgala (quite similar in style to the sherwani, the difference being that the bandgala is of the normal jacket length with five buttons instead of seven and is worn with formal western trousers) which is well cut with a hint of embroidery. So you thought that embroidery was strictly a female domain? Think again, for the magic that can be created with surface ornamentation, remains unrivalled. Bright embroidery is a strict no-no. Subtle and tasteful embroidery is the choice of the modern man. We take a week to 15 days to deliver a garment to our customer.

A sherwani or kurta can be in softer tones with strong colours used in the dhoti and pagadi. For the other occasions, a groom could wear kurtas with minimal embroidery detailing teamed up with Turkish pants and patiyalas. A region of untouched wild landscape, all-pervading tranquility and a way of life that is equally devoted to land and sea, a trip to the Azores is an authentic discovery voyage. A land of volcanic craters, breathtaking lakes and dairy farming, its sea attracts dolphins, whales and ancient sea mariners from all corners of the world.

A fabulous climate, a wide choice of beaches, animated seaside resorts, sophisticated villas and golf courses galore, have all come together to make the Algarve Portugal’s best-known region. Also, a land of striking natural beauty, its protected wetlands are home to migrating birds, its mountainous interior is a delightful mix of blossoming almond trees, quaint historical towns and a peaceful farming life. It has one of Europe’s best values - officially Western Europe’s least expensive capital.

Lisbon’s mild climate makes it an ideal year-round destination. Even in winter, when most other European cities are freezing, in Lisbon high temperatures rarely go below 10C (50F).

- It is the only European capital located so close to sandy beaches, enabling visitors to combine culture with fun by the sea. - It’s a compact and intimate city, ideal for a short city break or a longer romantic stay, with a lively café culture and a nightlife that is one of the most vibrant in Europe. - Its surroundings offer an incredible variety of tourist attractions, from fairytale palaces in one of Europe’s most romantic towns (Sintra), to world-class golf and fun in Europe’s largest casino in Estoril, to surfing in Cascais or escaping to a natural park in Arrábida, to dolphin-watching in Setúbal. - It makes a perfect base to explore many of Portugal’s most outstanding towns and villages, from Evora to Obidos. - It’s one of the safest European capitals. Tourists are always automatic targets in all big cities and visitors should beware of pickpocketing in Lisbon, but serious random violent crime is practically unheard of, in this city. - It’s a friendly city with a cosmopolitan population, welcoming to all visitors and families with children and open to minorities and alternative lifestyles.

BEAUTY

Feet are the pedestals of beauty. Your posture and figure depends on your feet finally. Yet they are the most ignored and badly treated part of the body. You probably never think about them until they start complaining. If you have been neglecting your feet, immediately start taking care. Make it a point to give your feet all the extra care they deserve. The first thing that can be done is to pamper your feet with pedicure once in 15-20 days or get a professional pedicure done once a month at a salon.

10. Apply moisturizer over the feet. 11. Apply nail polish if you want to. Beautiful feet are a rarity. If you have them, treasure and preserve them. If you don’t have them, then put in your best and pamper them religiously. Feet must never be neglected; else they give us complications.

, T S A F R U BREAK YO THE HEALTHY WAY! Breakfast is the most important meal - giving us a much-needed energy boost for the rest of the day. Nutrition experts have referred to breakfast as the most important meal of the day. Studies have proved that people who skip breakfast are disproportionately likely to have problems with concentration, metabolism and weight. Nevertheless, many of us skip breakfast when we are in a hurry - or worse, we turn to calorie-and-carbohydrate-laden food that even the most active person would have trouble burning it all. Studies have proven time and again that, healthy breakfasts lessen chronic disease, increased longevity and better health. Starting your day with a good breakfast boosts your energy, increases your attention span and heightens your sense of well-being. You will be in better control of your emotions. A good breakfast is one that provides at least one third of the day’s calories.

TULIP

When you get up in the morning, your glucose or blood sugar level is at its lowest point in the day as our body and brain have been without food for around 10 - 12 hours. Glucose is the basic fuel for the brain and central nervous system. Our bodies must be fuelled several times each day so that we function efficiently and carry out our daily tasks as best as we can. In the morning, after hours without food, it is essential to refuel in order to provide the necessary nutrients and energy to get us through the first part of the day. The brain requires glucose or blood sugar to provide it with energy to function, whilst the muscles of our body need glucose to activate them and get the body working physically. To work and feel well, our blood sugar levels must be maintained at a certain level. After long periods without food, our blood sugar levels fall, causing tiredness and irritability amongst other symptoms which occur when you need food. If you don’t eat anything in the morning, you will most likely find yourself craving something sweet to eat, as your body cries out for a quick fix to boost energy levels. If you are at work and it is not yet time for lunch, this is one of the moments when you may find yourself reaching for something very unhealthy such as a chocolate bar, croissant, cream cake or other unhealthy snacks. For those who are watching their weight, this is disastrous. It is scientifically proven that fat burning processes are most active in the morning, and fat storage – in the evening. So if you eat a healthy breakfast in the morning, you will boost your metabolism to burn fat and calories, and will give your body a good energy start for the day. Most people who skip breakfast or who eat an unhealthy one use either lack of time in the morning or weight watching as their excuse. Skipping breakfast in order to lose weight is a total misconception that holds absolutely no truth and in fact the opposite is true, in that skipping breakfast, in some cases, could cause you to become overweight. Breakfast is very important for weight loss and weight management. Breakfast is important to manage your weight and potentially lose weight by eating fewer calories throughout the day. ‘A good breakfast will keep you from being tired and irritable by mid-morning. Take time to eat a large, balanced breakfast. It’s a good investment of your time.’ You are wrong if you think that coffee and cereals make great breakfast. Together with the caffeine, blood sugar (glucose) levels rocket and energy levels soar. Develop a simple plan to eat cereal, such as oatmeal or Bran flakes, along with six ounces of grape juice or orange juice, and perhaps a piece of fruit. Our body needs a healthy breakfast packed full of vitamins and nutrients whilst also providing energy and fuel for the brain. The best types of foods to be eaten at breakfast are complex carbohydrates such as whole grains including oats, rye bread and millet together with a small amount of dried fruit and freshly squeezed juice. Indians breakfasts are best for the tropical climate and the heavy appetite. Idli, dosa, upma, roti to sandwich and omelette anything would do as long as you eat a healthy breakfast.

EXPERT ADVICE

Gone are the days of eating breakfast like a King! It is a misconception that we need to eat a hearty, heavy meal to start the day. There are theories which say, you have been starving the whole night; so you need to fuel up in the morning. However, you are not really starving at night. Your body is performing a very important function of absorption while you sleep. You need to replenish, but not overload in the morning. A heavy breakfast-typically, a South Indian breakfast which is full of starch; brings our body to a crashing halt. When we wake up, our body has finished absorbing the nutrients of the previous day and is now ready to eliminate the waste. However when we eat a heavy morning meal, the body gets diverted to perform a long digestion that only a part of our waste is eliminated and the balance results in a toxin build-up. An urban dweller needs to eat small meals frequently and limited starch based on her / his energy expenditure. A village dweller needs large meals three times a day and starchy foods to provide energy for a longer duration. Hence for a city dweller, the following are the ideal breakfast options -

Good options for breakfast are 1) 2) 3) 4) 5)

Mixed fruits Cereals which are low in starch and sugar Whole wheat toast and an egg Low fat yogurt and fruit Smoothies

RAINPROOF YOUR HEALTH

HEALTH

Rains are a welcome relief from the scorching summer heat and nothing better than hot pakodas and chatpata chaats to pep up the mood further. But hold on! As much as the street food may tempt, it’s best to be avoided. Tulip meets with GAVIN the owner and instructor at Gavin’s Gym and conveys some healthy diet and exercise tips for the readers, this monsoon... In India, it is believed that summer is the best time to work out, but that is a false notion. Though 70% of the body is made of water and highest water retention happens in the summer; one must follow a proper, healthy and a balance diet throughout the year and must work out in all the seasons. When it comes to diet, meals should be broken down into six meals per day - one must start with high fiber intake in the morning, the second meal should comprise of a water based fruit like apple, pomegranates, pears or sweet lime. Eat the fruit whole, because cut fruit is prone to infection and putrefaction during this season. The lunch can comprise of a heavy protein diet and little carbohydrates like the staple Indian dal, roti and sabzi. The non-vegetarians can add chicken breast and egg whites. Later again you can have a fruit like papaya which is excellent for the skin as well as for the digestion. And have a high protein dinner. Post 7, one should avoid any kind of carbohydrates. Especially avoid the simple carbohydrates like - candies, cakes, white flour pastas and breads, as they are not very simple and difficult to break. During the cold monsoon wind and the beautiful rain, everyone craves for a hot cup of tea or coffee. But the regular tea and coffee must be substituted with green tea or herbal tea, as they increase the immunity which is much needed during this season. In the monsoons one keeps feeling hungry, so don’t starve yourself but have small meals of healthy food – like fruits and nuts to stop the hunger. Rains increase the water levels in the atmosphere due to which the environment becomes ripe for all kinds of bacteria and viruses to multiply. Avoid street vendors because what was safe in the hot summers will become unsafe in the rains, especially the street chaats and bhelpuris. Also avoid dairy products outside like lassi or butter milk.

When it comes to exercises, the cardio exercises increase during the monsoons. A combination of cardio along with weight training has to be followed. And the best results are seen by using the circuit method of training. In this method, different exercises are followed for different parts of the body. Each exercise is performed for a specified number of repetitions or for a set time before moving on to the next exercise. One must continue to hit the gym or practice the work out regime that you have been following. Another false notion that people follow is to keep consuming water only during the summers to keep our body hydrated. Even during the monsoons one must drink water throughout. It is important to keep your body hydrated during your workouts as well as throughout the day. The charm of this season can still be enjoyed with the pakora and teas once in a while but make sure the rest of your diet is health friendly and don’t forget to continue with your exercise regime. One must choose the floor according to the kind of interiors in the house. Flooring plays a key role in the finishing look. We have different types to suit the areas - marble, granite, ceramic, wooden and many others. Marble is mostly preferred, as it gives a sophisticated look. When you lay the spotless, white, expensive marble; it adds extra elegance to the whole house. Ceramic tiles are good for the areas which are exposed to water. Granite flooring gives the sparkling look to the area and it’s easy to clean. Wooden flooring gives a classy look when used in the bed and living rooms. Youngsters are always full of energy and don’t shy away from the dance floor. Popular nightspots in Hyderabad include - 10 Downing Street, Kismet, Bottles & Chimneys, Liquids, Spoil and others. Some popular nightspots are within hotels and others are independent. Few nightclubs are limited to the five-star hotels, which all have their own discos, bars and sometimes gaming rooms. As you would expect, these are mainly frequented by hotel guests, well heeled Indian and foreign tourists - but they’re open to any reasonably dressed patron. Partygoers can find a variety of upcoming events at local hotspots which may be of their interest. You can find few discos and all-night joints further out of the city. Most of them have couple-entry. The city comes alive during the night and these places tend to shut early in the morning. Few places have restrictions where you are allowed only with your partner. But some places to have stag entries as well! 56 JULY, 2012

LOCATION – GVK One Mall, Banjara Hills, Ph No. 67767114

Music is my soul. My all time favourite place to party is B&C and Cuba Libre. Both the places are best in terms of food and ambience. If you ask me to describe the place in one word, I would say – awesome! The music played here is amazing! I do not party often. But whenever I do, I make sure I party hard. Good music and crowd make a good party destination. I love to try different types of mocktails.

In The Name Of Love

There is no more lovely, friendly and charming relationship, communion or company than a good marriage. And love marriage makes it even more beautiful. Tulip takes an exclusive interview of Ashwin and Trushna Tibrewala, one such couple who fell in love with each other at a young age and fought every odd to be together forever… ASHWIN As a kid, my life was not so lavish but yet we had all we wanted from our parents. That’s how I was brought up. My dad had to struggle a lot when we first shifted to Hyderabad, in 1977. As I was born in this city, I had done my kindergarten at Greenwoods, which was at Ameerpet. Later, my schooling was at HPS, where my parents had to struggle a lot to get me an admission. As a child, I was obedient to my parents and was good at academics. Dad never disagreed to anything we wanted. An annual family trip to famous holiday destinations was made mandatory. Though I was quite shy with girls, Tibrewala name was quite famous in HPS. Everyone knew us! We were all 15 cousins in different batches and grades. Teasing the lecturers in a friendly way was a part 60 JULY, 2012

of good old schooling days. But at the same time, we had shared wonderful rapport with them. They liked us. We had a lot of school trips in seventh and tenth standards – to places like Ooty, Kodaikanal and Bangalore. The second trip was to Mussoorie, Haridwar and Dehradun. But better than that, we had went to Mussoorie again with my parents and uncle and stayed at Taj, one of the best properties. We had a blast there! We made a lot of friends too! My dad was someone who loves to explore places, also with an intention to expand his business. Once in every two years, we toured our village Jhunjhunu, back in Rajasthan and stayed at a resort called Mandava which is a traditional beauty.

TRUSHNA

- The two best memories after we got married was – our first marriage anniversary which we celebrated during our journey from Hyderabad to Singapore on a cruise (a southeast Asia trip). - Scotland trip, during our second anniversary! While returning, I was excited about being a mother again. TRUSHNA We have been there for each other as friends first, lovers and then it showed the way to marriage. It has been a beautiful journey from marriage. Our ring ceremony was on Ashwin’s birthday, which made the occasion even more special. But we couldn’t enjoy our courtship because we were just two months away from marriage and I was busy shopping my trousseau.

TULIP

TRUSHNA More than my parents, I shared a great rapport with my sister Tripti, but not too close with my elder brother, Atin. I was given the liberty to pursue anything I wished to. I was more pampered by my Dad. He is fond of travelling. He used to take us along with him, to everywhere he travelled. One of the memorable trips was to Manali, which is famous for green apples. During then, we had seen my brother climb one of the trees to fetch us apples, but fell down as he slipped and we couldn’t stop laughing at him. That was a funny incident! We kept laughing at that incident all through the journey back to our place. Holiday trips to Ooty, Mysore (Maharaja Palace) and Katmandu with my college friends was one of the fondest memories. My Dad also took us to Udaipur palace, during my college days. Situated right in the middle of the lake, it was so beautiful that I wanted to get married there. I miss my college days and also my childhood friend Vishaka, who now resides in Mumbai.

ASHWIN We wanted to have a daughter as our second child and we prayed for it. She is very lucky for us! I have seen the best of the best, in every aspect of life, after she was born. She is a lucky charm for us. Trushna and I are friendly, honest and this is why people love us - for what we are and in that way we make a lot of friends. I am someone who would help people in every way I can and expect nothing in return. TRUSHNA Ashwin fulfills all my demands. He doesn’t stop me from doing what I wish to. One of the best things about him is, he gets along well with my friends too. He makes everyone comfortable with his company and friendship. He makes people laugh with his sense of humor.

Trushna and I chose each other. We just met, started talking and we didn’t even realize when we became so inseparable. We both think alike! There is trust, understanding and bonding. Our likes and dislikes are the same. We love to share everything about each other. Be it sorrows or happiness, she is the one I know who would always stand by me. We surprise each other, dance together, hang out, appreciate and love each other. She is my best friend, guide, sister and my well-wisher. Many people have asked us if we are sisters, as we look alike. I thank God for giving Trushna in my life. -Aarti Badruka about her friendship with Trushna.

ASHWIN The first time I met Trushna was at Country Club Wimpy, which was a Burger joint then, in Begumpet. I was the first one to approach her and talk to her. I was accompanied with my friends and so was Trushna. We had a good conversation and soon we became friends. For two years, our friendship blossomed. We started liking each other, our natures and personalities. I proposed her during my graduation days and got married in June 2001. It has been a decade now. We had faced so many highs and lows in several aspects, but after our first kid was born, a lot of things eased among us. We had been for each other through every difficult and happy phase. Our honeymoon trip was to Europe for 25 days, where we enjoyed our stay in Switzerland the most. JULY, 2012 61

SPEED WITH MAGNIFICENCE

ASTON MARTIN DBS VOLANTE

Completing the DBS line-up, the new Volante affords customers the combination of the DBS’ already-established sports car characteristics with all the thrills associated with a drop-top. It sits atop Aston Martin’s convertible lineup, which also includes the mechanically identical DBS Volante and Virage Volante models. To ensure a topspeed beyond 190 mph, the same 6.0-liter 12-cylinder engine found in the DBS coupe also powers the convertible. With 510 horsepower and a 420 lb-ft. of torque, the car will accelerate from a standstill to 62 mph in just 4.3 seconds. Volante comes standard with a six-speed manual gearbox and has an optional Touchtronic six-speed automatic transmission. Like the DBS coupe, it uses carbon fiber to form the hood, trunk and front fenders; resulting in increased performance through weight reduction. The top drops in just 14 seconds at speeds up to 30 miles per hour. It stows beneath an automatic, hard tonneau. The car does come with a pair of small rear seats, but even the automaker admits that they’re best left for children or luggage. This high-performance luxury convertible features an Adaptive Damping System (ADS), which helps to maximize ride comfort. It uses two separate valves to set the dampers to five different positions, allowing instant adjustment of the car’s ride and handling characteristics. The ADS automatically alters the suspension settings to ensure the driver has high levels of control at all times, with the ability to respond instantly to different driving conditions. The dampers can be set to soft, with a corresponding improvement in ride quality or firm, providing improved body control for more spirited driving. SPECIFICATIONS – Engine type – 5.9L V12, power – 510 bhp @ 6500 rpm, torque – 420 lb-ft @ 5750 rpm, transmission – 6-speed manual, body style – convertible, height – 50.7 in. and wheelbase – 107.9 in.

LAMBORGHINI MURCIÉLAGO

The Murciélago is an all-wheel drive, mid-engined supersports car. With an angular design and an exceptionally low slung body, the highest point of the roof is just less than 4 feet above the ground. One of the vehicle’s most distinguishing features is its scissor doors, which lends to the extreme image. First-generation Murciélagos were powered by a Lamborghini V12 which traces its roots back to the company’s beginnings. The rear differential is integrated to the engine itself, with a viscous coupling center differential providing drive to the front wheels. Power is delivered through a 6-speed manual transmission. The suspension uses an independent double-wishbone design and bodywork features carbon fiber, steel and aluminum parts. The rear spoiler and the active air intakes integrated into the car’s shoulders are electromechanically controlled, deploying automatically only at high speeds in an effort to maximize both aerodynamic and cooling efficiency. The Murcielago comes dressed to look like a service vehicle, complete with GFCD badging - that’s the Glen Cove Fire Department - and a plethora of fire department-relative livery. Even better, it also has a set of emergency lights on its roof, adding more flavor to what we obviously think is already a fantastic Italian supercar. SPECIFICATIONS – Maximum power – 580 bhp at 7500 rpm, compression ratio – 10.7:1, maximum torque – 650 Nm at 5400 rpm, 12 V electrical system, 6192 cc cylinder capacity, 0 – 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, 0 – 100 mph in 8.7 seconds and top speed of 205 mph. 64 JULY, 2012

AUTOMOBILES

The Panamera measures 55.8 inches in height and 195.7 inches in length. This makes for a roomy interior, especially for just four passengers. The cabin is complete with 18-way adjustable front seats and eight-way adjustable rear seats. The entry-level powerplant is a 3.6-liter six-cylinder derived from Porsche’s V8 engine, good in this case for 300 horsepower to the rear wheels. This engine has direct fuel injection, infinitely variable intake camshaft adjustment with variable valve lift, an on-demand oil pump, water cooling with thermal management, a variable intake manifold and auto start-stop. This technologypacked six-pot is mated exclusively to a seven-speed DK double-clutch gearbox - weighing in at a combined weight of just 404 lbs. This combination is good for 18 city, 27 highway miles per gallon. Despite being down 100 horsepower compared to the base V8 model, the Panamera still sprints from a dead stop to 60 miles per hour in a respectable six seconds - or just 5.8 with the optional sport Chrono Package Plus. Top speed is limited to 160 mph. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), (standard on all Panamera models), varies damper forces in an infinite process and adjusts the dampers to road conditions and the driver’s style of motoring. Incorporating adaptively controlled dampers with infinite adjustment of damper forces, PASM allows the driver, through the PASM button on the center console, to choose among three control maps – comfort, sport and sport plus. In Comfort mode, the driver enjoys all the smoothness and motoring comfort of a grand touring sedan. Sport Plus thrills with the performance and agility of a full-fledged sports car. Panamera comes equipped with eight airbags, including dual front, side-impact and curtain airbags. Knee airbags are integrated into the lower part of the instrument panel and hold back the lower body of the driver and front passenger in a head-on collision.
