Over a Cappuccino with Sushma Battula

Tell us a little about how the idea of being in this field come into existence? Presently, I am working as the Director of Marketing and Sales in Sri Aditya Homes Pvt. ltd. It is an interesting field to work in, given the fact that I am selling “A Home” which is an integral part in everyone’s life. I have worked as a Customer relationship manager, Business Analyst and as a Marketing & Administrative Executive. All these job positions were different from each other but the common aspect in all of them was client interaction. I enjoyed working in all my previous job positions and learned a lot as I moved from one work place to another. Most of all, I like the idea of being a Marketing Person. The reason behind it is that, I have realized that your confidence level goes up when you are able to convince a person to buy a product you believe in. This works as a morale booster for me. How has the journey been by far? It has been very educating, inspiring and successful. Real Estate plays a huge role in India’s economic growth. There is so much to learn in this field. The fact that I meet service providers and clients from various sectors makes it all the more interesting. I am a people person. So, I enjoy this line of work to an extent that sometimes I am oblivious of the time spent at work. My day to day work experiences have allowed me to hone my interpersonal skills. I take great pleasure to be on the receiving end of compliments and accept them graciously by counter-complimenting my clients. Your morning, evening and weekend routine for the day? I wake up to the magic in a cup. I am a big tea aficionado. So, that’s how I start my day. In fact, I was so excited to know that there is a day dedicated to tea. December 15th is one of my favorite days as it 20 JANUARY, 2017 - TULIP

Rapid fire

Your most embarrassing moment? I planned to take my daughter out for a movie one fine day and booked tickets for us a couple of days beforehand. Now...where it gets embarrassing was that none of us checked the ticket thoroughly starting from the ticket collector to the usher who allowed us to be seated in the theater until the respective audience came by to enlighten the rest of us that the tickets I purchased were dated for the day before. When I initially purchased the ticket at the kiosk, I mentioned the date in particular but he didn’t hear me right and gave me tickets for the day before. Ever since then, whenever I purchase tickets from the counter, I always check my ticket thoroughly especially the date part. Where would you take your next holiday to? UAE would be my first option as I love shopping & if not for Dubai then it would be Australia.

is recognized as an international tea day and is celebrated in many countries across the world. I spend the little bit of time that I have, with family in the evenings. Weekends are usually busy with sales and meeting clients as they are free to visit office mostly during this time. I do have my own down time and take time off when ever needed on a non busy day during the week. What do you do in your leisure time if you are not working? I love to design my own outfits. This is one of my favorite hobbies. It works as a natural destress mechanism for me. I have an eye for detail; therefore, my interest for customization comes from within. I like to test my designing skills in a creative and innovative way. A few of my friends have asked me, why haven’t I taken it up as a career. My passion for it is limited. So, I prefer that it remains as a hobby than it turning into a serious business. I also enjoy socializing, dancing and watching movies during my leisure time. How do you manage your work and personal life? This is where it gets a bit challenging for me. I focus most of my time and energy at work and try to cope with the little bit of time I have for personal life. I try to do my best with the time I have on hand after I get done with work. I make a conscious effort to self police myself about catering enough time for personal life. I should thank my family for giving me a helping hand to balance out the activities in my personal life.

6. Tell us something about your family? I have a daughter who is in her 10th Grade. I don’t have to worry much about my teenager as she is a very precocious, understanding, practical, composed and a talented girl. She excels in her studies and is a big book worm. I have a husband who is caring, accommodating and supporting. He encourages me to utilize my areas of strength in the best ways possible. He is undoubtedly a hands-on father. He is happy to be there and give me support whenever needed. The best part about him is that he totally enjoys spending time with family. I am lucky to have a family like that. How is your usual day at work? My work keeps me busy all day long. We build multiple Residential Projects simultaneously. We cater to all the different demographic groups. I am always engaged in monitoring the marketing activities. I spend time with the clients from all these projects and alongside managing my sales team is quite a handful of task. It is not just a desk job. So, there is traveling involved in various projects during the day. I enjoy my time at work, so, I don’t realize how the time flies by during the day. Busy days are fun for me and they are something that I look forward to. What is next for you? I see myself very well geared up in this field. I feel there is more to learn than to exit. I am working in a family business, therefore, looking into another area of work or other job opportunities are not on my agenda.

Soundest advice you have received by far? Encourage yourself to evolve as a better human being in all aspects of life. One thing that cheers you up immediately? The Colors of Nature cheer me up and I have a soft corner for animals. Craziest thing you have done by far? I got stuck in the middle of a busy road with by daughter as we were heading to a dance rehearsal and were already running late that day. So, basically, I forgot to check the fuel indicator of my car. On the way to our destination, my car suddenly slowed down and finally stopped in the middle of a busy road during peak hours. I, finally called a friend and we managed to get the fuel from a nearby fuel station and went back to the location where the car halted. We were slowing down the moving traffic as we were loading the fuel. It was quite an experience!! And for the record this happened to me only once and would never ever want to put myself in such a crazy situation again. Your strength? I have more friends than foes as I always keep my cool and maintain a friendly attitude. I leave an impression (the good kind of impression) when I meet people and I see that as my greatest strength. Quick advice for young and budding entrepreneurs? Hard work always pays off! Keep challenging yourself to perform better.

-As told to Ishna Rawlani

One Festival... Many Names

The festival of kites is one of the most unique festivals celebrated all over India under different names. It is the thanksgiving festival of India and the Sun God is offered prayers for its blessing upon nature. This festival is based on the solar calendar and regularly falls on January 14-15 each year. Wearing black is considered auspicious on this day. The festival marks the transmigration of the Sun from one Rashi to the next. People prepare various delicacies and head to their terrace to fly kites and have fun with family. At night the sky looks magical than other nights as people send out sky lanterns.

Lohri-13th January, 2017 Lohri celebrated across the North India a day before Sankranti is a thanksgiving festival of Punjabis. Bhangra and gidda form an intrinsic part of the celebrations. Sankranti- 14th January, 2017 Makar Sankranti celebrated on the 14th and 15th of January. The festival marks the transmigration of the Sun from one Rashi to the next. The craze of flying kites has gone to a whole new level with the kites having a varied range of celebrities like actors and actresses, politicians to images of God idols. There are also a number of kite festivals held across the city including kite festivals in schools that support charity. It is one of the major festivals of the cosmopolitan city of Hyderabad. RP SINGH, Retired Civil Servant and CEO Of Cancer Hospital Independence Day (August 15) or Republic Day (January 26) is very important occasion for all citizens including a civil servant. For a civil servant, the day is busier as being a Government functionary, he participates in various ceremonial programmes organised by the Government Departments at Central, State or District level depending on place of his posting. He attends ceremonial parade in the morning, cultural programmes during the day and ‘at Home’ in the evening. In case he is District Magistrate, he hoists the National Flag and takes the salute as Chief Guest at the Ceremonial Parade, inspects the Guard of Honour and delivers the Independence/ Republic Day message. Besides, civil servants attend similar programmes at schools/colleges and NGOs. Sequence does not change much for a retired civil servant also. For Example, I as CEO of a large Cancer Hospital hoist the National Flag inspect the Guard of Honour and deliver the Independence Day message. We also arrange sweets/eats for patients particularly children. All in all, Independence Day for a civil servant is very exciting and a day of pride and showcasing achievements of Government/Department.’’

Free Flow - Traffic Bar

The interiors of this place are mesmerizing and done really very well. With a traffic Signal, graffiti cars on the walls and warning signs as coasters, overall, it is a colorful place to be at; which is actually very rare in Hyderabad. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Coming to the Menu, opt for some refreshing drinks to start off with. They have some really unconventional cocktails and mocktails as well as very innovative food menu. Virgin Mojito, served in a Mason Jar and Berry Bong, served in a fancy barrel are more often seen in a chemistry lab So, that’s quite innovative. Tulip Recommends: Tandoori Malai Broccoli as creamy delicacy, Vodka pani puri and chicken dimsum served with chili sauce is quite tasty. Another chicken starter that you should not miss out on is Tandoori chicken Kebab. For the main course, chicken steak with Mashed potatoes and Barbeque sauce is a great option. The flavors are lip-smacking. There is so much variety from street food favorites to thalis and continental to fusion food that it will leave you content and mouth watering. This is one of the few places that have a great blend of amazing ambience, great food and equally good service. Location: 4th Floor, Plot 566, Road 92, Jubilee Hills, Ph: 33165734

Prost

The trend of microbreweries in Hyderabad has just kick-started and people love it. Being to most of them, we sure love the vibe at ‘Prost’ the most. The three-level microbrewery is huge and the interiors are just perfect to the details. Every corner has a different vibe from exposed pipes to car heads outdoors, it’s just modern chic. With both outdoor and indoor seating available, it’s already a crowd puller. Tulip Recommends: The entree menu is more elaborate when compared to the main course. However, the most appealing part of the menu is the option of ‘Half and Half’. Watermelon feta salad was surprisingly too good to be kind of dish and has defiantly become our favorite. Paneer Gatari, Crackling stuffed fish, Cajun Potatoes, Koli chips, with finger licking seasoning is as thin as it can get. Mutton Keema Puchkas, the meaty Pani puri you can say, is every bit tangy and yummy and a definite must try. In main course, the ‘Quesadillas’ and ‘Pottery Prawns’ are great. The prawns are vodka based, served with a bed of olive oil in pot along with the garlic bread. And there is “Chocolate Éclair’ to wind up! From little details like lights, old style phones and not to forget the walls decorated with quirky frames. They give platform to new talent and every weekend you will see live performers who take stage to entertain the guest for the evening. Tulip Recommends: Veg burger, Garlic Bread, Greek, Fish & Chips, soft and well cooked, accompanied by yummy dip and fries - it was a good portion for two. It interestingly serves snacks and ‘chakna’ in disposable plates.

Tulip Recommends: Tiki Shack has a hysterical menu of names that shouts Desi in one’s face. Tawa Phraan, is just impeccably good with your drink, chose Beer Mary Margarita to go with Chilli Cheese Fries that are loaded with cheese and spices which tingles your taste buds. Kheema Pao is typically Mumbaikar and fills you up instantly. Chicken Momo Phry is crispy from the outside and juicy chicken inside with lots of smoke that bursts out while you take a bite off it. What is alcohol without onion bhajjis and green chutney? Yum! The dish that outcasts everything on the menu is the big bun omelet which was huge and was delish beyond imagination. Your very own party hub also has the most delicious food on their menu. Stone Waters is known for its live music nights but what you didn’t know was that, it lives up to the expectations of some great food that it gets to your table. Stone Water’s has a classic ambiance; it is simple and not overly done. Tulip Recommends: Apart from the Berry Cooler and Avalanche one needs to try the Angari Paneer and Malai Murgh Tikka in their starters. Both are equally good but I am a little biased towards the Murgh as it is tender, smokey and gives you a burst of flavors. Binge eating on the Chicken Lasagna is addictive; it is creamy and filled with cheese and layers of tandoori flavors below. The Chicken Steak is served with barbecue sauce, mashed potatoes, grilled veggies topped with herbs. I have also tried the Malai Broccoli and it is out of the world. Overall, Stone Waters is a great blend of some good music that gets you tripping and food that gets you gobbling. Location: Shop 1299, B1, 5th Floor, Aruna Arcade, Road 1, Jubilee Hills. Ph:33165231

Hoppipola encourages a lot of hoppi things. With a hoard of board games and the hoppi favorite live-sized Jenga, there is never a dull moment at Hoppipola. On close inspection, the tables are all actually blackboards, so while one waits for food and mulls over drinks, one may play noughts and crosses and dots away to glory or put the artist in them to work and simply doodle all over the table. Tulip Recommends: Serving an extensive bar menu, Hoppipola serves refreshing, innovative cocktails with just the right amount of flavor and kick and just what one needs to set the mood right. Served in quirky bar-ware, drinking at Hoppipola is a delight. ‘Bird Cage’ cocktail and ‘CNC’, a cumin and cucumber flavored drink is amazing but we absolutely loved the ‘Nutty Fruity’ which is with a hint of pineapple, hazelnut syrup and cranberry juice made it a relishing never tried before drink. Hoppipola serves interesting pub-grub for all kinds of appetites and palettes. Some little munchies to pair with your drinks like Smokin Carlos, Chicken Trilogy, The Harissan Fish, and Lambada, Cup of Oriental –Thai curry served with sauce (absolute favorite) are a MUST TRY. Break the Taboo There are a lot of people who find it embarrassing to talk or even mention any taboo talking in public and we are not talking about the teenagers but a whole lot of grownups out there who feel ashamed talking about it or do not have proper knowledge about what exactly it is. Times have definitely changed and everybody is open with their confessions. We take opinions from a few people and their views about breaking the taboo.

Divya Reddy,

Fashion Designer Honesty is the best policy. Having said that, if people want to be honest about their life then, I find no fault with that! Explaining and discussing personal life is up to one’s own discretion. If someone wants to be open about their personal life or status, then I guess, it’s only a matter of fact that they are being honest and not succumb to societal and peer pressure and hiding which I consider is a very important part of one’s life. I am open about being a single mom and I am extremely proud of it. Breaking this stigma attached to hypocritical relationships in our country, I feel is an evolution and not a taboo.

Gaurav Kaura

, Owner of Hyderabad Social We live in 21st Century modern India, where we talk about modernization on one side and on the other side we consider talking openly about personal relationships, sex and divorce as a taboo. Indian orthodox society is not aware of the fact that Indians are the only people in the world to formulate sex, and it was celebrated so much that it naturally took the centre stage right after religion. Personal relationships, sex and divorce were never a taboo in this country. It’s just from the last century coz of some religious leaders and political leaders who have made it a taboo. So, in my view talking about these things should no longer be considered as taboos as we live in the 21st Century, liberal, open minded society where individuals have started talking about these things openly, which lead to a nation of modern thinking and views. 40 JANUARY, 2017 - TULIP

Nidarshana Sharma, Zumba Trainer

Talking about one’s personal choices should be left to one’s discretion. But there shouldn’t be any taboo surrounding it. People often keep mum for fear of being judged. That should be changed. If someone is not talking about his/her sex life, it should be because he/she chooses not to.

Vrinda Seth,

Entrepreneur I feel the more one thing is spoken about especially sensitive topics like this the less does it sound earth shattering or alien and comfort increases. It’s better such things are spoken about coz it helps to break the stereotype and myths surrounding it.

Sharath Shetty,

Photographer I welcome the change. It’s always better to speak it out than bottle up issues. People have evolved strong enough to accept situations and deal with them with a strong mindset. It’s a healthy change. With all the stress effecting people’s lives, it’s better to let it out things whenever where ever or however possible.

Girl Child

FEATURE

E

Even today, there are different sections of the society that treat the girl child as a burden. The cases of female infanticide have been reported even to this day. In 2011, there were just 918 girls for every 1000 boys. Several privileges are given to boys, but the girls are being discriminated and restricted. In such scenarios, the role of the government as well as the NGOs becomes very important in order to ensure the safety of the girl child.

Sharvangi Pasumarti

Fashion Student There is a wrong culture against women in India, including the newborn girl child. Women of India face a lot of violence right from the time when the sati system prevailed in our society. However, killing the girl child, restricting her from education, health care and shelter is an act of shame. There are a lot of crimes against women child marriage, sexual harassment, child abuse, dowry deaths, for all these cases there has to be stricter laws to protect the rights of women and children. Today, we see a lot of NGOs working towards this subject, but there are still many untouched parts of our society where the discrimination still prevails. Girls and women need to get educated and empowered to fight for their rights. Education will solve many major issues regarding the exploitation of girl child and thereby, build the future of the children.

Girl Child Awareness in Hyderabad

The mindset that the girl is a liability has to be changed amongst the people. Spreading awareness is critical for the benefit of the girl child; there is a need of strict laws to prevent the children from being illiterate. The role of education is very important; it helps in empowering women and young girls. There are various benefits in educating the girls; they will be able to make the right decisions for themselves, their family and for the society as a whole.

Programs held for Girl Child Awareness

In 2015, girl child awareness programs were being held by the students of Fine Arts University. The main theme of the program was to bring about the importance of safeguarding the rights of a girl child and the importance of women and girls in the society. Concern India Foundation, Hyderabad, has also taken up programs for providing education to the girl child by supporting various organizations that provide education and offer development to the girls. The project was being aimed at providing training to adolescent girls, school dropouts and housewives. Smile Foundation joined hands with Mahita, Hyderabad based local partner, to provide education and health care support to non-school going slum children and child laborers; focusing primarily on the girl child. The project covers 10 slum clusters of Hyderabad. In 2014, the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and Tharuni, an NGO, organized a bike rally for creating awareness for the girl child. The drive was organized with respect to the International Girl Child Day. In 2016, Concern India Foundation also organized an Inter NGO sports meet for the children including girls, helping them to nurture their talent and building their confidence to compete.

Simrin Mercy Cherian

Fashion Student Uplifting the status of a girl child has a direct impact on women empowerment both within the country as well as worldwide. It is ironic that although we claim to give importance to women in our country, so much so that we refer to her as “Mother India”, female foeticide and infanticide rates are so high. It is no secret that girls are looked down upon and, in many households, not even given basic food, health care and education by her parents. Internationally, both governments as well as non-government organizations are trying to make the world a better place for a girl to live in. It is the thought process that, a girl is a disgrace to her family, needs to be changed. In 2012, the UN first announced 11th October as the International Day of the Girl to raise awareness against gender inequality in terms of the right/access to education, nutrition, health care and legal aids. Within our country itself, NGOs like Save The Children and Swabhiman work towards the upliftment of the girl child as well as women. As important as it is to educate the girl child, it is equally important to teach them what they are worth. In a world where girls are discriminated in almost every field, it is vital that they have an innate self-confidence in order that they might not succumb to the judgmental standards, but fight them instead.

Government of Telangana

Girl Child Protection Scheme- Women development and Child Welfare Department. The Girl Child Protection Scheme is aimed at preventing gender discrimination by empowering and providing rights to the girl child through direct investment from the Government of Telangana. This scheme aims at enhancing the status of the girl child, improving the sex ratio and curbing female infanticide. The scheme aims at – • Enrollment as well as retention of girl child in school to ensure education at least up to intermediate level. • Providing social and financial empowerment to girl child. • Elimination of negative attitude and practices against the girls. • A special dispensation to the orphans, destitute and differently abled girls.

NGOs in Hyderabad for Girl Child Awareness

St. Ann’s orphanage in Hyderabad has many branches that focus on the education of the girl child. Smile Foundation, for children’s health and education, joined hands with Mahita- a Hyderabad based local partner, for safeguarding the health and education of girls. Spoorthi Foundation is a registered NGO, based in Hyderabad. They have three separate homes; two for boys and one for girls. They take care and provide education to girls as well as boys belonging to poverty stricken families, orphans, children of families ravaged by HIV-AIDS. Nanhi Kali, was founded by the current chairman of Mahindra & Mahindra, Anand Mahindra, with an aim to provide primary education to underprivileged girl children across India. Mahita, an NGO in Hyderabad works on a wide range of developmental activities. Mahita believes in social transformation. Missionaries of Charity, in Hyderabad, is a home to almost 60 orphans under the care of the sisters who impart education and health care facilities. Here’s a review of what Hyderabadis believe about the importance of girl child awareness.

Nabaneet Ganguli

Business Student There are many NGOs in Hyderabad that focus on the girl child awareness through various facilities like health care and education. The organizations create opportunities for the poor and marginalized with a special focus to the girl child. The crime and discrimination against the girl child and young women needs to be kept on a complete halt. It is important to bring out social awareness in the city as well as the country with the help of the youth, by joining hands with them to have an awareness drive across the country. Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (means save girl child and educate girl child) scheme was launched in 2015 for the welfare of women. Such schemes are very beneficial even for the small scale NGOs who can scale up with the help of such schemes. Each and every citizen of India must follow the norms of safeguarding the girls and their position in the society.

As a product the idea is to break free from the monotony of simple and boring menswear attire. “We are on most of the major marketplaces in India and are still in process of getting on board with more. Vibrance by Anoopam Shroff Men’s Accessories in India are not so easily available, especially if you want something quirky and young, you need to look long & far. This got Anoopam thinking to do something, which appeals to the young Indian, and dresses them right for all occasions. “The response has been phenomenal, since the start and the collections get sold out within no time. We have been developing new products and launching them on different festivities like Weddings and keep exchanging new ideas with our customers. We like to interact and give personalized services. We look to be available pan-India basis and get the young and charming men to be dressed well, and stand out from the crowd. When we look at men dressed in Suits, we have been seeing a Tie & Pocket Square, and no more style to it. Add a quirky pin, a nice pair of colored socks and a fresh pair of cufflinks; the look stands out from the one standing next to you in a similar black suit. The idea of the plain suit was not too appealing to me and after trying varied combinations it got me thinking on this”, explains Anoopam Collection is available on Instagram & Facebook: @VibrancebyAnoopamShroff, Contact: +91 9810254745

Beardo Beardo was the result of a need to introduce products that specially cater to taking care of one’s beard as it is not advisable to use regular grooming products for beard hair. It was hence born in October 2015. Beards have gotten cool over the past few years with pop culture and movie icons sporting them. Men are more aware today and take keen interest in their personal hygiene; there is a surge in appearance awareness among urban male consumers. “The response has been fantastic so far and the growth remains strong. Continued celebrity endorsement of men’s grooming products has also helped to increase awareness of men’s grooming products among male consumers from smaller towns and villages. We are constantly looking at expanding our product portfolio. We started off with just a beard, moustache oil and wash last year and now, we have a range of hair wax, beard balm, face wash, serum, therapy oil, beard combs, soaps and many more. You can be rest assured that our mad scientists are cooking up the next gen of our products as we speak”, explains Ankit Mittal, the founder of Beardo. “Having a beard is not just a trend but a tradition. In most parts of the world you will see communities with different beard styles and having a beard is considered quite the style statement these days. Both Priyank and I have always sported a beard and until Beardo was launched, we found it extremely difficult to maintain our manes. There were very few products dedicated to men’s grooming and we felt the need to start our own line of men’s grooming products mainly devoted to beards”, he says. Redefining Couture Aishwarya Oza, a fashion designer and stylist by profession from INIFD talks to us about her journey, fashion trends and more.. What according to you are going to be the trending styles in 2017? The 1980’s fashion is back and is going to be the biggest fashion trend in 2017. From power suits to the tailored trousers for office, the off-shoulders tops and dresses, ruffles and frills which were artistically inspired themes across the runways will make way again. The painterly prints and patterns will be here to stay in 2017. Denims have gone through a whole new change with skinny jeans stretch. Sneakers will continue to be extremely popular from 2016. What do you specialize in? With Globalization, the fashion industry in India has got a wider platform. Indian fashion is legendary and can go a long way with the variety of fabrics and cultures it offers. So, I specialize in ethnic wear. Where do you get your inspiration from? Everything that I see around inspires my ideas in fashion - from people on the road, the architecture and most importantly history. The period of royalty, when the Mughals and Maharajas used to spend extravagantly on their clothing, this forms a major source of inspiration for the creative designers of today to get close to the cultural roots and remind us of the glorious past. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years? The learning process in fashion designing is never ending because of the constant evolution and changing of the trends. I see myself doing what I am doing and gaining excellence in the industry. How has the journey been so far? I have always been a dreamer and achiever. Any journey to become a success needs a lot of hard work. I took each disappointment and failure as a lesson and have come across the challenges headstrong. It is a rough ride but when you love what you do, life is like a party. Style shoot, London

Can you tell us something about your learning experience at London? An institute as good as INIFD located at a place as good as London is the best anyone can ask for. London gave me the right amount of exposure a learner in fashion industry can ask for. What is the best part of being a fashion stylist? Styling is the best part about working in fashion industry. You get to assemble the best of the couture and the projects are never the same. It’s hard to get bored when the work environment is this happening. Email : aishwaryaojha75@gmail.com

The Dream Co by Chandni Chugh “The journey that has resulted in the creation of The Dream Co. started about two years ago when I first realised the limited options for Sleepwear in the Indian market during my wedding trousseau shopping! I was always a big fan of wearing my Pyjamas all day when at home, but was only disappointed with the limited options. With my brand, I aim to make my clients feel luxurious and comfortable at the same time so they can sleep it off in Style! The thing that stands out in my mind is seeing our vision come to life. We set out to create a brand which embodies a classic aesthetic with a fun & cute sensibility! It wasn’t until we got our first samples that we realised we were actually making it happen, and I was blown away by those first samples. It was then that we started to make some real progress. Positive feedback from the clients is the most exhilarating aspect of launching a business. We have been very fortunate that so far it has been very positive not just about our products, but also about the look and feel of the brand, social media handles, as well as our packaging. Finally, I would say that getting to meet so many amazing people, including family and friends, who have been so generous with their time and support has been really special. We feel so lucky to have had the support we have and are truly grateful! What makes us different from other brands is the quality of our products & the fact that each and every product can be personalised, from sleep masks to jammies! We believe our product will speak for itself, so we just need to create as many opportunities as possible for people to discover . We want our customers to have a great experience from the moment they engage with our brand, and each and every time they wear our garments. What’s Next: ‘I have big plans for what I would like to do with the business and where we can take it. I am always thinking about new products we can introduce. We have only been running since September so I do sometimes have to remind myself to slow down a little and not get over-excited when I think of new things we could do with the business, everything will happen in good time. We are excited; however, to be launching men’s sleepwear soon, so keep a look out! However, Mansi has done a good job of guiding me through the program and has always kept in touch each day on whatsapp or phone. She has also dispatched the diet products with the diet schedule in advance and has always been available to answer any queries and also motivated me multiple times when I was not able to get the desired results. Find Your Zen

Hear the sound of your hearts, by reducing the back ground noise in your life. Take a walk with nowhere to go, savor a chocolate on the tip of your tongue, plant a seed, doodle aimlessly, and turn off your mobile phone for five short minutes. Smile, breathe and go slowly. Take mindful vacations, keep private and professional life separate and do your best in both without mixing it. Start with good old snooze and lead a mindful life this year. “Skimping on sleep may eventually affect us so badly that those of us who don’t end up dead- though cancer, heart disease or fatal accidents caused by exhaustion- will be overweight, stupid and depressed, our brains, metabolism and moods ravaged” said Arianna Huffington in a recent interview.

Calm: Calm the Mind. Change the World by Michael Acton Smith Join the Calm revolution. Modern life is hectic and relentless: trains delayed, endless emails filling the inbox, kids squabbling before bedtime; there has never been a more important time to rediscover your pause button. Calm is the book that will show you how to take back a little bit of peace, space and all-important calm. It is a practical and pleasurable guide to twenty-first century mindfulness. Regular meditation is medically proven to be good for you - it increases focus and creativity, productivity and job satisfaction, mental and even physical health. But in reality most of us don’t have time to sit on a cushion with our eyes closed for half an hour every day. And many people associate meditation with hard work and huge lifestyle shifts: you might be imagining Buddhist monks locked in a mountain retreat and living off gruel... This is where Calm comes in. Calm is about simple, achievable habits that work with the demands of your busy life instead of pretending those demands don’t exist. Calm does not require specialist training: it uses abilities that every single one of us is born with, like creativity, spontaneity and simply noticing the world around you. Calm is divided into eight sections that everyone should have in their life: * Nature * Work * Creativity * Children * Travel * Relationships * Food * Sleep Each section contains a mixture of fascinating research, creative prompts, activities and instructions, sensory stimuli and inspiration. Pick up Calm whenever you need it, dip in and out, read it and choose which bits work best for you.

Coloring used to be reserved for children and the occasional adult who got to babysit them, but recently, the activity has found a different demographic. What started as a niche hobby has now turned into an international trend, as adult coloring books find themselves on more and more bestsellers’ lists throughout the world. However, while this trend may be a fun way to pass the time, it’s the books’ therapeutic properties that really have them flying off shelves. THE HEALING POWER OF ART Art may not be able to cure disease, but it can surely make coping with it a lot better Art therapy is helpful among people dealing with a variety of other conditions, such as depression, dementia, anxiety, and PTSD, which lets say are the most common problems today in youth. Those who judge themselves as bad artists may be more likely to miss out on the benefits of art-based therapies. Adult coloring, therefore, presents a creative venture without the need for artistic flair. One simply needs to colour within the lines in order to get the desired effect. Coloring elicits a relaxing mindset, similar to what you would achieve through meditation. Like mediation, coloring allows us to switch off our brains from other thoughts and focus on the moment. So a bit like repeating a mantra where repetition is a means to relaxation, coloring-in is also a type of mediation. He forced everyone to leave the place right away. On coming back home he showed us the photo he had clicked and we could spot a shadow of ghost in the background of the picture.

We went on a vacation to Goa and booked a villa there. It was late at night when we came back to our villa. I went to the wash room to freshen up, but when I was in there I suddenly heard banging on the door. I shouted saying I m using it thinking my husband did not know I was inside. Then what happened next scared me, when I asked him why he was knocking, he said he dint get out of the bed even once.

Aayush Jain, Student We were having a sleepover party at a friend’s place when one of them suggested we all go to a nearby graveyard for ghost hunting. The temperature was low as we entered the graveyard we heard some noise as though someone is chitchatting and giggling. We thought to ourselves they must be the caretakers of the graveyard so we came out. On enquiry later we found the graveyard had no guards.

Monica Roberts, Analyst My friends and I went for a long drive to Vanasthalipuram late at night one day. Something about the place felt ghoulish so we stopped the car to see. RANGE ROVER RIDE As an avid philanthropist, her profession describes who she is. “I believe the best motivator is failure because only failure can teach you not to be the same person you were before. I take pride in keeping my family and friends who care about me closer to my heart and thank them for the support that they have provided. One of my best experiences was driving an Aston Martin V8 Vantage (Formula Livery) on a Formula 1 circuit all the way in Abu Dhabi. Although I feel, a car is secure and safe; it doesn’t stop the passion of an adventurous person. Riding ATV’s on an off-road terrain also counts as an example of the joy of riding. I hold under my reigns the wild yet safe Land Rover Discovery Sport with a custom touch. My dream car, which I absolutely love, is the Rolls Royce Wraith. The car may have been announced recently but when it did, my jaw just dropped. With the elegant interior design and the presentation of the dimensions on the exterior defined the lifestyle of someone like mine. With the honking, the impatient traffic and the arrogant people, it brings its limitations to the car I drive. As mentioned the car being wild. An engine that big with almost 200 horses of power behind the wheel, the car doesn’t show it’s mane amidst the wild city. When on a long drive, the car cruises at high speed with little but no discomfort to the passengers and driver. The car is well equipped with features that allow me to drive effortlessly. The look people give when I pull out of my car anywhere I go is enough to say that the piece of art I possess is special and soothingly beautiful to the eye”, she adds. About Range Rover Discovery: Prior to the launch of the current Range Rover, the big Land Rover was close as it’s ever been to its gentrified relative. Enormously capable, it’ll cross any terrain you ask it to. It was upgraded in 2014, with a fresh nose and other detail changes. It also, finally, got engine stop-start, just the thing for reducing local pollution outside the school while dropping all the kids off. The core remains the same, so it’s getting on a bit and due for imminent replacement, but it remains a hugely desirable machine. TULIP - JANUARY, 2017 63

Aamir Khan Supports Demonetisation initiative

Its a boy for Kareena! Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan welcomed their son Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi on the morning of 20th December 2016 at the Breach Candy Hospital. Speaking about the pregnancy Saif had said earlier, “I think it’s also a great expression of my relationship with Kareena. To have a child completes us. There is something about a baby that is kind of half of mine and half of hers, so, it’s a nice feeling.” Kareena carried her pregnancy really well and has become inspiration for all the mommies-tobe. She was out and about fulfilling her professional commitments. She flaunted her baby bump in magazine covers, walked the ramp, did photo shoots like any other actor on a regular basis.

Perfectionist Aamir Khan has given full support towards the Demonetisation initiative by Narendra Modi. The actor stated that demonetisation didn’t affect his life much. “It has only affected people who have black money. I don’t have any black money.. I have been paying my taxes till date. So I don’t have any black money at all,” he said at an event. The actor also said that he has been using credit cards and cheques to make transactions. Aamir who has three children, also said he would help them only if they are deserving. He was quoted saying he will only help them but not beyond a normal person should help and if they are not deserving, then he will not help them. Aamir is high on roll after the success of his latest movie Dangal.

George Clooney- Amal Alamuddin head to splitsvilla

George Clooney and his wife Amal are said to be living separately and are heading for a $300 million divorce. “Amal wanted to have kids and George didn’t. She will get his fortune and his Lake Como Villa.” While they still love each other, they just want different things in life. The couple’s “growing divide” is allegedly due to a “long list of grievances” that has now brought the relationship to a perilous crossroads. The actor apparently felt too pressurized to have children and had reluctantly agreed but later backed away and Amal was crushed. Clooney has allegedly plans to move to Britain as he is growing impatient at Amal’s “taste for the high life” and lavish spending. The Hollywood star and the British human rights lawyer married in 2014.

Ryan Reynolds family time in Disneyland

After earning a Golden Globes nomination, winning a Critics Choice Award and then receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of fame, the Deadpool star could have gone low key if he wanted. But instead, the Hollywood star decided to celebrate his daughter James’ second birthday at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. Ryan and his wife Blake Lively spent some quality time at the Happiest Place on Earth enjoying the rides and attractions. The family outing came just one day after their children made their public debut at Ryan’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony. The private parents have kept their children out of the spotlight since their births and picked a picture-perfect moment for their little ones to step out. 64 JANUARY, 2017 - TULIP

MOVIES Movie Reviews

Dangal Dangal is based on a true inspirational story of the ex wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat. Mahavir Singh Phogat (Aamir Khan) is forced to give up on his dream to win a gold medal for India due to the lack of financial support. He later fulfills his dream by transforming his daughters into world-class wrestlers. Aamir khan has gone under a whole lot transformation from gaining weight then lost all those kilograms and more to play the younger version of Mahavir Phogat. The message on our obsession with the male child, myopic stand on bringing up our daughters and the administration’s pathetic disposition towards sports, are loud and clear.

La La Land This lyrical masterpiece brings every dreamer’s fantasy and fears to life. Set in contemporary times, beaming with optimism and soaked in nostalgia, the old-fashioned romance, tugs at your heartstrings with its relevance and simplicity. It brings out the person you were before failures made you practical. Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall signify the highs and lows in Mia (Emma Stone) and Sebastian’s (Ryan Gosling) seemingly idyllic relationship. Love turns their life into a beautiful song until reality intervens

Dhruva Dhruva (Ram Charan) is an honest IPS officer whose ambition is to eradicate crime from the city of Hyderabad. His focus is not on small time thieves but the gangsters. He hunts down various big wigs and reaches a man called Siddharth Abhimanyu (Arvind Swamy) who is behind all the corporate crimes. The story revolves around how Dhruva makes some clever plans and nabs the powerful Siddharth down and ends the crime in the city. The actor has done a fabulous job however the story has many logical errors. Rakul Preet doesn’t have much to do except for songs. It’s a perfect comeback film for Charan with his standout performance. It’s a treat with the engaging story, interesting twists and some super mind games.

Between the rumors about the fight Dax was in (and that brief stint in juvie that followed it) and his reputation as a loner, he is not exactly the ideal person to be stuck with. Autumn keeps reminding herself that it’s just a matter of time before Jeff, her almost boyfriend, comes to her rescue. Only he doesn’t come. No one does. It becomes clear that Autumn is left with no option but to live off the vending machine food and make conversation with a guy who clearly wants nothing to do with her. Except, soon Autumn is surprised by their connection as they grudgingly open up to each other. But, will their feelings last for each other even after the weekend is over and Autumn’s old love interest threatens to pull her from Dax’s side?

But for a smart and talented apprentice cartographer like Vaela, it is an opportunity to improve upon the maps she’s drawn of this vast, frozen land. An idyllic aerial exploration is not in the fate of Vaela, she has no illusions about the true nature of the danger she faces. Starving, alone, and lost in the middle of a war zone, Vaela must try to find a way home- but first, she must survive.

Forecast For

January 2017 ARIES

March 21 - April 19 2017 will mark a substantial growth and material satisfaction for Arians. Although, personal relations, not work will come to the foreground. Overall, it is fair to say that the better part of the month will be calm. A little extra care of yourself is advised. However, the first half of the month will be more inert than dynamic. That is, on the whole you will not be required to make any decisions. Try to operate in a most active fashion. You will be able to resolve all your current family-related issues, and you will become stronger. Just don’t invade anyone’s private space.

TAURUS

April 20 - May 20 January 2017 will be a rather successful, productive time. You will need to focus the better part of your efforts on the work sphere, while personal questions will recede into the background, for people who work for themselves, the responsibilities will be several times greater, but their efficiency for positive development vectors will also prove to

be greater. It is unlikely that any particularly important developments will await, but this does not mean that it is logical to leave everything to take its own course, without considering possible consequences.

GEMINI

May 21 - June 20 January is a good chance for dramatically improving your financial standing. But there are a few nuances here. First of all, the vast majority of the opportunities available to you will be concentrated in the final ten-day period of the month. This means before that, it is not particularly worth “rocking the boat”, it is better to lay the groundwork for decisive action. Weigh the possibilities and do not under any circumstances overlook your direct competitors. The “romantic front” will surprise Geminis. Your loved ones will probably show a part of themselves which you have never seen before. This will give you food for thought. You will gain a new experience in the process of communication with your partner.

TAROT

CANCER

June 21 - July 22 It is not worth taking risks, not even after assessing all the likelihoods and possibilities. If you are unsure of anything, do not take a step forward, this could be risky. This month you will have quite a few opportunities to improve your standing in all areas of life. All the potential negativity will be predictable, at least; you will have already addressed similar problems, and this means that you will definitely be ready for them. The personal relationship sphere is unlikely to be more important than the work sphere. Conflicts born within the family life must also remain there. Be yourself, don’t forget about your innate goodness.

LEO

July 23 - August 22 It appears to be quite a calm month, and in actual fact, compared to the dynamics of the following stages, the current time period will not be the most active. All the same, by no means does this imply that you will be unable to have a whole lot of vivid experiences! Don’t let yourself be excessive, but as act freely as you are accustomed to, and as you consider necessary. You must remember that honor and dignity aren’t the only things that determine how those around you perceive you. Be a little more romantic and less predictable as this will benefit your relationship with your “better half”.

VIRGO

August 23 - September 22 January 2017 could be a successful month, although it will be necessary to make a little bit of effort for this. Objectively it makes no sense to argue with anyone about anything now, or to try with all your strength to achieve the desired result. Instead, work towards a base for further development. There is a good chance that you will overestimate your own strength now. Make no mistake; act with intentionality. The “love front” will be considerably more successful and brighter than many subsequent phases.

LIBRA

September 23 - October 22 In January, could get considerably lucky, but for this to happen it is necessary to “keep your eyes peeled”. There are circumstances which might very well result in your advantage, however, and you might miss your chance if, when the time comes, you look the other way, or if you don’t do what is needed. With regard to the work sphere, it will be a fairly successful but turbulent time for you. With regard to the sphere of feelings and emotions, it is going to be a tough war between personal experiences and passions. However, let everything take its own course, as it should.

SCORPIO

October 23 - November 21 Scorpions can count on significant advantages in the fight against circumstances. There will not really be any critical developments this month. In other words, even the most difficult and seemingly unsolvable problem will prove to be completely solvable. If you work

for somebody else, do not be in a hurry to enlarge the sphere of your responsibility, since you really might not be ready to receive a new position. Be sympathetic towards those who are close to you, especially towards the younger generation, otherwise you will lose the trust of those who are in many respects dependent on you.

SAGITTARIUS

November 22 - December 21 January will be extremely successful, just like all the following months of this year. You should focus on the projects which you have already been pursuing. That way you can economize dramatically on resources and eliminate potential dangers. In relation to the sphere of feelings and emotions, January could be an equally successful time for Sagittarius. It is possible that several will decide on the most drastic changes, but they will have unambiguously beneficial consequences, of this you can rest assured.

CAPRICORN

December 22 - January 19 In January Capricorn will be “on the crest”, of this there is no doubt. Here it must be mentioned that we are talking about people who are not easily frightened. Their fate is not easy in and of itself, and difficulty strengthens them better than anyone else, so January will seem like a real paradise to them. Everything is possible! Act vigorously, clearly and even boldly. Now is not the best time for any staff (or, in general, any massive) adjustments, but it is definitely necessary to reach new heights, especially if a good opportunity presents itself. Be careful with new acquaintances, especially regarding danger to your health.

AQUARIUS

January 20 - February 18 People born under the sign of Aquarius can completely count on the most successful combination of circumstances. You should take into consideration the fact that now the circumstances will develop overwhelmingly in your favor, but they will require the greatest possible exertion of strength and flawless dynamics. On the whole, at the end of the month your income should grow substantially, although to a large extent this point concerns those Aquarians who have their own businesses. By living only in the moment, not paying attention to the future, you will lose yourself.

PIECES

February 19 - March 20 It’s a good time to listen to their inner voice. Your subconscious will send you extremely straightforward signs now, and if you follow them you will be able to arrive at an unexpected but in all respects positive ending. The emergence of quite a few funny situations is likely. If you work in an office, be prepared for funny things to happen with you and your colleagues practically the whole month. The more original you are, the better your chances of succeeding will be. Laziness or shifting your responsibilities to others will result in an “accumulation of negativity” which will severely restrict your freedom.
