Free Flow- Traffic Bar This beautiful place, newly opened in Jubilee Hills serves American, Asian and North Indian cuisines. The name is just too apt for the place for having such a nice ambience. With live music, an extraordinary perspective of the city and flawless food, this spot is immaculate to loosen up and unwind. It serves the best continental non-veg basket, steaks and starters like Malai Broccoli and Chicken Kebabs. Our favorite would be the drinks served in a chemistry lab kind of a setting called the Berry Bong. Don’t forget to seat yourself at the rooftop and stop the traffic as the whole atmosphere is like a road. It is such a palatal treat to oneself by being such a lovely ambience and some great food. You have a lot to discover like a thali making its way across the floor but anyhow this spot serves it all like continental, biryanis and also Thalis. You can actually chill at this place if you’re a night person. It is a must try for all the people who love to try something new in the city. #LOL- Grill and Bar

WHAT’S NEW

The city has been buzzing with new places but #LOL is one of our favourites. Targeting a younger crowd the place is amazing with options to seat indoors as well as the outdoor were you can over view the entire view of KBR, and no matter what the weather is outside its always pleasant here. With license to alcohol there wide menu of cocktails are quite enviable and so are their mocktails. Food wise, we tried some new things like their ‘Quesadilla and Spinach & Cheese Rolls’ in veg. Their ‘Chicken Wings’ come with option of variety of sauce and are truly finger licking good. Also try their ‘Chicken Nachos’ which are perfect combination with their drink- ‘Sex on the Beach’ or just go with their ‘LOL Signature Drink’. Our favourite was definitely the chicken wings but we couldn’t get over the chicken fingers either; not to forget their out of the world ‘Grilled Vegetable Sandwich’ which was a perfect mix of flavours and crispness that is just a joy to your taste buds. So alcohol or no alcohol, vegetarian or non vegetarian you guys should head to LOL, because we bet it’s going to be you new favourite place that has good food, sheesha and of course great ambiance. Hyderabad Social

Launched in December it is already packed with lot of private parties and celebrations. This place is very fun and vintage. With option of both breezy open area to vintage style indoors that is full of quirk with all the sign boards and quotes on the wall has a very welcoming and fun vibe to the place. We ordered for ‘Veg burger’ and ‘Garlic Bread’ for my vegetarian companion who was pleased with fries that accompanied the burger. Their ‘Greek Salad’ is a total must try and so is their ‘Fish & Chips’ soft and well cooked, accompanied by yummy dip and fries it was a good portion for two. For drinks we were delighted with their ‘Special Handi Mocktail’ and ‘Berry Blast’ Totally refreshing and tasteful, the flavours were really amusing and unique. There is lot more to try and I will be heading their weekend taking more friends along. With their live music starting soon it’s a great place to look forward for. Work: I have studied fashion from NIFT and International Fashion Marketing from Glasgow, Scotland. FEATURE

Let’s Resume To Music!

“All the times when either you feel something isn’t quite going right, you resume to music”, in the words of the very famous icon, Taylor Swift. But, is music only meant to calm your heart from beating too fast when you are either too anxious or when you have a lump in your throat that something is not going fine? I feel, personally, music does it all from relaxing you, to making you feel good about yourself and helping you to believe that someone, somewhere is going through the same instances and moments like you are; you aren’t alone in this world - when you find a connection in the lyrics. In my words I would say, ‘music is something you resume to when you want to live life and make your life a definition to remember for others’ What’s your definition of music? Think about it, it wouldn’t be so hard after all? So, as for this season, let’s bring a smile on your face remembering and talking about some melodious and foot tapping numbers that either made you skip a heart beat or made you fall in love with what it did to you. The best songs being;

Main Hoon Hero tera, Hero Just when we thought Salman couldn’t surprise us more, did he leave us all aghast portraying his music talent by the song, “Main hoon hero”. The song literally is a treat to everyone’s ears and it makes people fall in love over and over again. Yes, with the superstar as well as his oh-new-found-talent singing’s sake, it’s just one of my favourites.

24 JANUARY, 2016 - TULIP

FEATURE Raita Phail Gaya, SHANDAAR Now, I possibly couldn’t forget this song! This song just got us all to know the infamous meaning of ‘Raita Phail gaya’. So much that everyone is using this terminology in almost every context now, haven’t you heard so? Okay, jokes apart. Isn’t this song just too very addicting for all the music lovers who completely love to shake their foot on loud, fast songs? It surely is the best one to shake your foot on while in parties and with a group of friends. Try it, if you haven’t until now.

Gulabhi Ankhein, Mahi aaja - Singh is Bling, Chicken Kuk doo koo – Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The reason for this song being the new experience of fatherhood and I cherish the moment when my daughter smiles as she listens to these songs. And soon, I got addicted to the songs too. Anand Jhawar

Sorry, Justin Bieber NO NO, I’m not being apologetic for my articles, folks but, who knows why Justin Bieber is being sorry? It’s no joke how this song has literally gotten JB’s fan’s double and the others who never liked him to obsess over all his previous songs suddenly. This song is definitely one of the best of this season and makes ones who never liked him feel sorry for themselves because come on, the lyrics are just so touching and heart warming.

Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam, DILWANE DHULANIYA LE JAYENGE And here let’s talk about the Evergreen song. I mean, almost everyone has this song in theirs phone’s play list. If not that, start singing the first verse of the song even on the road and you would have almost everyone joining you in. Yes, DDLJ fandom is that huge. Not only that, this song makes you believe in the existence of love.

TULIP - JANUARY, 2016 25

FEATURE Gulaabo, SHANDAAR However, Shandaar somehow failed to win our hearts totally but its songs totally made up for it. Not only ‘raitaphailgaya’ was a success but even gulaabo didn’t fail to make all jump in joy and completely adore each and every word of this one. Not only that, we couldn’t stop our eyes from looking at how extremely cute did Shahid and Alia look in the movie; not to forget this song, by the way!

Songs work like a meditation to me at all times. I take them as my stress buster. Songs keep me going and energised for the day. And my top favourite all time favourite songs would definitely be - Lean on, how deep is your love, Get low Samia Arif

Agar Tum Saath Ho, Tamasha The movie ‘Tamasha’ hasn’t hit the theatres yet but has already started getting the audience to aww at Ranbir-deepika’s chemistry by its promos and most importantly, the songs. One example being, this song. This one is just the most beautiful one in the history ever. It’s a sad tune but soothing for those hearts who believe in resuming to music when they need light music therapy.

Music means a lot in my life as different music expresses the different sort of moods I am going through no matter it be Indian or English music. During my workout, I like to listen to some Spanish music or zumba theme songs which make me feel energetic. When at work, I try keeping myself focused by listening to inspirational songs. After winding up a long stressful day, I like to end my day with a cup of coffee, a nice book and some really soothing plain music. It always works. Songs which always work for me being- Danza Kuduro, Levels- Avici, Love me like you do- Ellie Goulding Shahreen Arif

Perfect No, I didn’t miss out the directionless, we all know how ‘perfectly’ you have memorized the lyrics of ‘Perfect’ by now but you can’t be blamed it’s actually too very beautiful. You can simply not stop pressing the rewind button as you reach the end of this song, we all understand your highly expressed and sometimes untold love for the One Direction crew.

For me, music would equal to expression in the simplest of simple words. My top favourite tunes would be, Piya o re piya, Tu jaane na and Dilliwali girlfriend, for sure. Namrata Bhandari

Hasi Ban Gaye, Humaari Adhoori Kahaani And here’s something for romantics because this song is perfect for you all. You can have slow dances or soothe yourself when upset and when you feel rejected. This is one song which brings in so many of your heart’s elations, without doubts. So, you need to check this song out and go lost in the beauty of it, if you haven’t still.

Music is the very fabric of our society. It tells us who we are and yet it has no bounds. It’s a proven fact that musicians have a high self-esteem, are creative and are more at ease. Music training can improve our motor and reasoning skills. Soothing music will calm and relax your mind. Basically, music is my life totally. Dennis Augustine Powell

Wildest Dreams,Taylor swift album (1989) When we are talking about music, who can ever forget pleasing the swifties who can’t stop falling in love with their music inspiration, Taylor swift. This song, if you haven’t heard, you need to do it like right now because it is super addicting. Who would not mind having the wildest of wild dreams now if in their dreams they would see the beautiful Taylor ‘standing in a nice dress, staring at the sunset’, truly!!

Music is a great de-stressor and very important to my life. It changes your mood, calms you when you are low and has a soothing effect on your mind. Not only that, it even brings a bright smile on your face. Among all of my favourites, my top favourites would be – kabira, Allah Maaf Kare and Khiladi 786 mash up. Akshay Bhandari

THE VARIOUS MUSIC MOODS

As we all know, there is a song for every mood. Let us know which song to switch on while in a particular mood. Bachellorate Party Mood You are tensed and anxious about what’s in store for you because you/your near or dear ones are going to start a new life and you don’t know how to vanish that feel of anxiety off them? Music can be your remedy too. You can simply switch on to songs like Hangover, Desi boys and that would be your night to remember.

The Party Mood So, what’s better than Honey Singh’s CHAR BOTTLE VODKA, BLUE HAI PAANI PAANI or probably Badshaah’s DJ WALI GIRLFRIEND when you are out for a hang out with a few friends and are in full mood to loosen yourself, forget all the worries (if any) and just live in the moment. The PJ Dance Mood You are at your best friend’s place and after a long session of tears and gossips over people who suddenly stopped mattering to you. Are you confused in choosing what song to dance on, standing on your bed with messy hair and in your favorite Pj’s? Just go download ABHI THO PARTY SHURU HUE HAI OR PARTY ALL NIGHT and believe me, you would forget the world and be the happiest people ever in company of your lovelies. 28 JANUARY, 2016 - TULIP

The I-Need-To-Cry Mood Even this mood has a song to be the medicine to wipe away the tears from your eyes. Don’t believe me, do it now. You can start playing PREET, NAINA, AGAR TUM SAATH HO or as a matter of fact any Taylor swift number and trust me, by the end of the song either you would become a swiftie or would you start believing in yourself.. No matter how bad life must be at that moment.

INSTITUTIONS - By Nikita Fernes

Now, we all know how Hyderabad is famous for Charminar; one of the oldest monuments in India. Lucky for us, the twin cities are also famous for imparting education since the 1800s. Some school buildings have stood strong while teaching children who have made our country proud. Here are 5 of the oldest yet still renowned schools of Hyderabad along with a student’s view of their own school. Hyderabad Public School

The Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet is a 93 year old school which was initially built for the 5 sons of the Nizam in the early 1920’s. It started out as a boy’s college and changed to be a boy’s school after a few years. It later became a co-ed school from LKG to 12th grade since the 1960’s. The one thing that any student of HPS would love is the 160 acre campus and a number of grounds within the campus itself. It was the first school in Hyderabad to have a stadium

within the campus itself. It encourages all extracurricular activities for every student. The school has provided me with every bit of exposure possible to follow my dreams to become a musician. The faculty has always been supportive and the students organize many events within the school which improve their communication and organizing skills. A number of international schools have be established over the years but HPS always stayed on top by sweeping championships in every inter school competitions. The experienced faculty and staff that have been there for a very long time make the school feel like home to me and nurture every child to face any situation once they pass out. It has 2 cricket grounds, 3 football fields and a couple of hockey grounds. It boasts of having 100% results in ICSE and ISC for over 5 years straight. The school’s games and athletic teams are well trained in our very own fields. HPS is specially known for its rock band stands a place in the top ten bands in the city under the mentorship of MR. Dennis Powell, one of the best musicians in the city. Sidharth Bendi, Student

Gitanjali Senior School

Gitanjali senior school was founded in June, 1990 by Mrs Gita Karan. “It is important for children to love their teachers to love learning from the very beginning and I without a doubt can say that I absolutely love my teachers. Gitanjali taught me that it’s okay to be who you are. It gave me the confidence to be myself. Gitanjali may not be at par with international schools but we are nonetheless good at what we do. I love Gitanjali. It has given me so much like the courage to speak my mind, the guts to follow my heart and made me believe that there is nothing I can’t do, and I feel that that’s everything a child needs.” Prithvi Sharma, Student

Nasr Girls School

“Nasr just turned 50 this December and it has already made it’s mark in being one of the most renowned girls schools of Hyderabad. Nasr is a really happy place where everyone is very supportive like one big family. I felt that the faculty was and will always be the best. They are more like our friends and are very understanding, always being there for us no matter what. The number of co-curricular activities Nasr has is absolutely overwhelming. From the Nasr Dramatic Club to the literary club to the art and fashion facilities to a beautiful band which I was part of, it has everything. I will be ever grateful to my school.” Yahsika Rao, Student

St.Ann’s High School Secunderabad

FEATURE

It was established on April 1st 1871 so that makes it 144 years old. Msgr. Dominic Barbero invited the Sisters of St. Ann of Divine Providence to Hyderabad Vicariate and Mother Enrichetta Dominici selected six sisters on 20th November 1870. The six Sisters arrived in Secunderabad on 3rd March 1871. The Sisters were entrusted with the orphanage and education of girls. To impart education to the poor and needy the school was started on 1st April 1871 with 25 orphans and 3 boarders by the Sisters of St. Ann. “What I love about my school is the discipline which I feel no other school would be able to inculcate in me because that’s how good this school is. What it has given to me? It has given me almost everything, even though we keep ranting about how strict our school is, you realize how very important this strictness is when you leave the school. My school has helped me in a lot of aspects from teaching me how to debate to teaching me how to compete and realize that failure is only a stepping stone to success and in the end leadership qualities by making me a member of the cabinet. This is not even 1/4th of what my school has taught me but I will end. I wouldn’t like to compare it to international schools because I wouldn’t like myself being compared to anyone else. Everyone is known for something special so those schools might be special in a different aspect whereas our school might be special in something else like discipline. St.Ann’s might be put down by many others but all Annites are known to walk with their head held high and achieve the impossible.” Mirica Jaiswal, Student

St. Patricks High School

Well, my school, St. Patrick’s High School, is about 104 years old now. The school was established in 1911 by Fr. H. Colli. While the school is a Catholic educational institution, with the primary aim of providing education to the local Catholic boy’s, students of other faiths are also admitted. I loved everything about it, the classrooms, the playground, the canteen and especially my teachers and friends. It has given me a lot of things a sense of responsibility being one of them, knowledge and courage. I think a man’s life is based from his very childhood and I am ever so grateful to St.Pats for it has given me a great childhood that has no doubt shaped my future for the better. Well I can’t say its better than the International school’s we have when it comes to the facilities, but when it comes to things like sports and learning, I can assure you that it is very good here. After 30 - 35 minutes baatis will brown up and you will notice cracks all over the baatis. To see if it’s fully cooked - open up a baati and it will be all cooked inside. If the dough is still gooey on the inside it means baati is not cooked, return it to the pan and cook for another 10 minutes. Drizzle ghee over it and Enjoy with dal.

Parsi Bhonu at Sodabottleopenerwala The Bombay Irani cafe and bar, SodaBottleOpenerWala, had a special treat in store for Christmas and New Year. The Parsi Bhonu festival, showcased alongside their signature attractions which was packed full of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. These liberal, festive non vegetarian and vegetarian thalis were not found on the regular menu and guests were encouraged to try them for a more extensive and authentic Parsi food experience. The Bhonu featured ten dishes, which are a mix of dry starters, condiments, gravy and mains, along with three desserts. Pulao and Dal, featured in Parsi meals on most days and celebrations were specifically highlighted. The non vegetarian and vegetarian dishes, specially curated by our Parsi chefs, had everybody coming back for seconds and thirds. The sumptuous spread included lip-smacking condiments like Homemade Brinjal Pickle and Tomato Chutney, the Navsari Potato Salad and Saria, a traditional Parsi rice papad which adds crunch to the meal. After our share of the thali, it was time for the second wave: a dose of Parsi meetha with a choice of mouthwatering desserts. Consider SodaBottleOpenerWala’s sinful mini Falooda; a classic Bombay flavored falooda with strawberry, or the zestful Daruwala Trifle which had Old Monk-soaked fruits, layered with jelly and custard and the last but not the least the Matunga Coffee Cake which was a rich chocolate-coffee cake. Sodabottleopenerwala gave us a chance to inhale some gleeful air for the festive season. Niharika Jubilee One,, Nandagiri Hills, Jubilee Hills, Phone:040 6888 8681 34 JANUARY, 2016 - TULIP

Tassel are huge this season, be it in clothing shoes, or bags it will add right amount of sass to your look.

Oxford shoes

Explore colors other than black and go for silver or marsala, you can try beige and pop colors too which will be appearing a lot this years. Its easy fashion were you don’t need a lot of thinking and can go with literally everything.

Pointed Toes

Well yes we did say comfortable oxfords are in but for the ones who can’t think without heels we got good news; from poppy colors to nudes heels have gone bold and peppy

Spike it up

Spikes shoes to spiked studs, gives a very rough, take over the world kind of bad ass attitude. Add things trend to your closet and get ready to take over 2016 with style.

Embellished everything

Embellished? Yes please, be it on satin shoes, or keep me warm booties; they had a style that no stilettos can beat. In terms of bags, opt for grays, pastels and not flaunt it at wedding and parties’ but for brunch and coffee outings as well. After all it’s all about the bling. 36 JANUARY, 2016 - TULIP

I’ve always been fond of good Shoes & bags, like really fond of them. Fashion is never-ending. I always get excited when I see the new Ideas at the fashion week. I admire modern thinking and unusual designers who seem to be stepping forward into new things Fashion 2016 calls for alot of tassel, light weighed denim apparels, lot of tie-dyes, bold orange hues, silky frocks, totes & satchels, pointed toe heels, core neutrals, oxford shoes as usualwill make their way through. Tassels, fringes & bold colors in footwear would really trend in 2016. Fringes add a lot of drama & life to our attire & they’re at present the hot item in the market. Variations in fringe & tassel styles will continue to be the favorite trend. Heels & boots with studs & glam diamtonies would be a big hit!” Tel us about how you started Ornabliss? Ornabliss is my dream. Ever since I was a kid I wanted to be a designer. Fashion attracts me a lot. Bags & shoes are my weakness. I began with “Ornamental” where I dealt only in fashion jeweleries which were my own creation. One fine day I decided to have my own line of bags & shoes. Ornamental was then known to deal only in fashion jewelry so the name changed from “ornamental” to “orna bliss”. Today, Ornabliss promotes fashion jewelry, bags, footwear & much more. How is it different from other fashion store? Fashion is a personal statement. As every individual is different, so is Ornabliss. Ornabliss tries to provide products for each personality.

Well winters are still here, and even though far bags have nothing to do with warming us up, they have a very classic appeal to it, well almost as pearls. So add this pastel beauty to your wardrobe as these are must have for a bag loves collection.

Your price range? Our price range is generally between Rs.1650 to Rs.3500 which is really affordable. We also have a lot of high end shoes & bags which may cost more than Rs.3500.

3d Bags

They made their entry in end of 2015 but is still catching up, they are fun and vibrant, suitable for more young generation, and they speak for you and add to your playful personality.

What colors according to you are furcated this season? PANTONE!! In terms of bags, people should opt for more lively, bold colors & hues. A lot of ethnic & traditional prints in bags are picking up too. Boxy structured bags look classy & trendy whilst they’re not chosen by many. Tan bags will be classic as usual. The Label Studio

The Label Studio is an online fashion store launched by Ravisha Shah. Since her childhood days, she was very choosy about her clothes and accessories. As she grew-up, designing became her passion. “Many a times, I could not find the perfect garments as per my imagination. So, I decided to create my own designer clothing label and to be a trend-setter rather than a fashion-follower. Also my love for art, textiles and fashion took me to the path of designing; as a result, “The Label Studio” was started. Currently, we sell our collections only through our website www.thelabelstudio.in and social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. We are coming up with a collection made from hand-woven fabrics to promote crafts and hand-woven textiles. Collaborating with other stores in near future is also on our agenda. I am confident of making “The Label Studio” a big name in fashion fraternity. Online shopping is something which everyone is aware about. It is a platform where customers get tons of choices by just browsing on their phone/laptop screen. Also for designers, you can reach to a person from all over the world which is not possible by retailing, only through physical stores. Social media plays a very important role in building the brand! Art, hand-woven textiles, traditional fabrics and work have always inspired me. I love to experiment contemporary designs and styles with natural, unusual fabrics and vibrant hues. The response to my online store is highly encouraging and the journey by far has been excellent. I am happy because I am doing what I love and what I always wanted to do. Still, there is a long way to go and a lot of things to be achieved, which definitely I will”, Ravisha grins positively. You can also shop at Almari, Banjara Hills. Itrana

Sonal Gupta started Itrana, an idea which reflects adornment, attitude and show. It is a blend of intricate thoughts and master craftsmanship. “We as a brand, believe in creating conceptual jewelry for women across the globe. The signature element of the brand is the idea of weaving metal chains with precision. The response as of now is very encouraging. Something which I feel really puts us apart in comparison to others in the market is that we are not taking jewelry as just a piece of adornment, rather we are weaving ideas through our designs so that it reflects the persona of the modern day women. For new brands like us online shopping is a boon as it gives us a larger audience to cater. I totally believe that online shopping will be the thing in coming years even for designer labels. Geometric patterns and intricate fabric weaves are a constant source of inspiration and the core reason of Itrana’s design language. It is our inspiration which allows us to coin a new weaving design in every single piece. We are planning to tie up with online designer sites like perniaspopup, exclusively.com etc. We are also in the process of developing our own website”, explains Sonal. Purple Turtle

Every girl’s first love is shopping; this made Aayushi, Natanshi and Prerna start an online shopping venture. “Being fashion centric helped us to convert this thought-process into reality. During the preliminary inputs we had all the things in place. Prerna being a fashion designer was in sync with the latest fashion trends. Aayushi having pursued BFM had finance expertise, so could manage finances of the store and me pursuing MBA in marketing could promote our store to the next level. What seemed to be difficult was coming up with a name for our venture. One fine evening while sipping coffee Prerna just came up with ‘Purple’ where as Aayushi rhymed it with ‘Turtle’. This is how we penned down this name of our store” giggled Natanshi. “It has been only three months to our store and the response has been overwhelming. We feel proud to say that we have clients outside Mumbai as well as from overseas. We also have many fashion bloggers asking for tie ups. Purple Turtle being one of the well known fashion brands has a long way to go. Next on the cards is launch of the website which will provide ease of shopping to people. We are also planning to display our stock in high end exhibitions to take our store to the next level and make people feel our presence,” says Aayushi. “I’ve always been inclined to art and design for as long as I can remember. I did my bachelors in fashion designing from NIFT and worked in the fashion industry for a while, but my love for accessories took over. I started experimenting with different pieces from jewellery to footwear and when it got heart-warming appreciation I decided to launch my own line. The idea of my brand is constant innovation and experimentation thus creating an edge to each and every one of our products. We also have a fun line for kids which has been doing extremely well. I don’t follow a certain trend too much and I think that keeps it fresh. The response has been great so far and I couldn’t have asked for more. Online shopping on your phone is what’s huge right now. It’s all about apps these days. All the big fashion portals are venturing into apps and are doing really well; the best part being, sitting at the comfort of your home with such a wide range to shop from. It’s amazing, but you also tend to shop more, which is of course good for the retailers! What’s next: I plan to launch a fun casual line of footwear for men. Also we’ll be venturing into creating more shoes for kids along with accessories! “ says Arsheen

VITASTA by Aditi Vitasta Dhar “I have been working in the accessories market for a long time, either with design collaborations or for other brands. I found a gap in the market for a range of accessories that were high on utility, and quality and yet accessible in price. The idea was to create a home grown label which focused on a simple concept of “everyday luxury” Accessories that are functional, with an emphasis on handmade details and a strong respect for materials. The response to the collection has been very promising. In October last year we were invited to showcase at Amazon fashion week, as part of “FIRST CUT” as one of the 6 upcoming designers to watch out. This was a huge honour and privilege and we hope to showcase in upcoming shows as well. The USP of the label is our focus on simple, functional approach to accessories which are handmade with love. This is to disrupt the uniformity of mass production and offer quality, luxury and care that goes into our designs. The label is meant for a woman who is an independent spirit, a global soul and who invests in pieces which are timeless season after season, year after year.” Says Aditi What’s next: We plan to build the brand and story through online marketing for an international audience, as well as expand into the retail premium segment both online and offline. We plan to have a retail store soon for the label, and eventually pan India.

The Brewing Controversy of Intolerance in India “When you discriminate against anyone, you discriminate against everyone. It is a display of terrible intolerance,” Webster’s dictionary defines intolerance as the unwillingness or refusal to tolerate or respect opinions or beliefs contrary to one’s own. Lately, in India, the debate on “Intolerance” has mushroomed out of two separate, disturbing trends. Earlier this year in August, M.M Kalburgi, a well known liberal writer critic was gunned down at his residence due to his free writings against idol-worship. The second trend is of an increasingly violent reaction to Indians who consume beef. It seems barely a day goes by without a statement that inflames an already volatile debate. Likewise, when Salman Rushide posted a slick phrase against the Modi supporters calling them “Modi Toadies”, thousands shared it on social media. After the killing of Kalburgi, the intellectuals retaliated to growing intolerance in the country by returning their respective awards given by the government, which came to be known as ‘award wapsi’. While actors Shabana Azmi and Sudipita Chakraborthy supported intellectuals like Kundan Shah, Surjit Patar and Saeed Mirza for returning their awards, musician Zubin Mehta and actor Vidya Balan openly stated that they do not understand the logic behind all artists returning their awards.

“Yes the country has been clouded by an atmosphere of intolerance lately. I do agree that this is not the first time such incidents have occurred but the difference lies in the way the current government has failed to respond to the situation. The government should take strict action against those who commit such crimes and it should assure that the minorities are safe, because if it fails to do so then, soon the very idea of India which is “tolerance” shall be under threat.” Intifada, Librarian Veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher led a march to Rashtrapati Bhavan alleging that the “award wapasi” was to defame the country by projecting a wrong picture of the situation. However, the most pertinent criticism came from the Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan when he spoke about the Dadri lynching and religious intolerance in India, therefore sparking controversy. Countering the statements of Shahrukh Khan and other Muslim intellectuals, Sadhvi Prachi, a BJP member and Baba Ramdev, a close aide of BJP, branded them as “Pakistani agent” and even told them to leave the country. Nevertheless, there are many who stood by the comments of Shahrukh Khan.

“The point that Shahrukh Khan is a public figure doesn’t change the fact that he is an Indian as well who holds the freedom to express, given to him by our constitution. Also, if you question our right to “speak” about the stupidity, then who gave you the right to “assassinate” innocent lives on basis of what they eat.” Lubna Ali, Director The main question that needs to be asked here is that, “Is India really becoming intolerant?” Before we come to any conclusion, let us take into consideration that India has seen gruesome instances of violation of communal harmony time and again in the history. “While there have always been episodic attacks on free speech in India, this time it feels different. The harassment is front page news, but the government refuses to acknowledge it”, quotes the New York Times. 42 JANUARY, 2016 - TULIP

CAMPUS BUZZ ”India is a land of contradictions. We talk about liberty and equality in the Preamble of our Constitution, but are we really tolerant? If we really are, then why is prostitution frowned upon as an occupation? Why are homosexuals shunned and thrown out of their homes? Despite having proper laws in place, the mindset of the citizens is yet to change.” Aaradhna, Student

Among the many myths of the Indian society, is an ancient one - That it is and has always been a tolerant society. It is hard to be definitive about the issue of tolerance. Indian politics, especially those around communal tensions are complicated. Days after superstar Aamir Khan remarks on intolerance, Pakistani singer Adnan Sami reiterated that there is no atmosphere of intolerance in India. “If there was intolerance in India, would I have asked for citizenship in the country?” the singer said.

“As an NRI, observing the sometimes violent, outrage cropping up while dealing with issues of caste, religion, gender and culture has left me a little baffled. Because, as an outsider, I don’t understand how India is being perceived to be more intolerant as compared to the rest of the world. Looking at the unfortunate trend of events that have been happening across the globe, I would say every other country can be termed an intolerant in some context.” Mr. Toufeeq Ahmed, NRI Looking at the provisions in the Indian constitution, it has under Religious Tolerance, the fundamental right to follow any religion and this is guaranteed by Articles 15 and 25. Then why are people being oppressed to such an extent that they are forced to convert to some other religion? India also had Article 66A under which, “Any person that makes use of the internet for hate is liable to be sent to jail.” An example of this Article may be the incident of the two girls who expressed their joy on social media on the death of Shiv Sena leader Bal Thakrey. This law was quashed by the Supreme Court in March 2015, more than two years after the incident, therefore giving the right to Freedom of speech to people. The debate of intolerance may continue for many years to come. However, action of mind, thought and behavior needs to start at an individual level to bring a change. The issue really is not that no one seems to be troubled by the real issues and problems at hand. It’s just that no one is ready to go to the roots so as to edify and rectify the problem at hand. Only the fearless, strong, secular and fiercely loyal to the constitution can stand up to and roll back, the growing threat to intolerance. As we come to the end of this issue, our minds are still haunted by unanswered questions. Has India attained an ideal, secular state? Has the world’s biggest democracy become an intolerant nation? The one thing that has become crystal clear in this matter is that intolerance is just not a political opportunity; it is our brain child for hate and war.

“Be it the Dadri lynching or some statements made by public figures, we have seen instances of intolerance in recent times. But, does that make India intolerant? I think not! The fact that so many people are able to speak about intolerance is a proof that India is tolerant. A few regrettable statements and incidents do not damage the secular fabric of our great nation.” B. Manasi, Psychology student

Lets Extol The Festive Season

Now, we Indians don’t spare any chance to actually have fun, do we? Especially when we have to celebrate festivals. No sacrifice is literally made on anything starting from lovely attires to devising as to what to cook and how to please everyone who comes home. Everything is done with all heart and soul. No wholeheartedness is experienced here, nothing of this sort. Also, why should it be? Indians observe a large number of festivals. These should be observed with a spirit of peace, order, unity and co-operation. Some of the alluring and appealing festivals include Republic Day, Sankranti, Shivratri and Pongal.

Republic Day

Our Motherland, India became a whole democratic republic country on 26th January 1950. This is one day etched in the hearts of all Indians with a proud feeling. Republic Day is a day to literally commemorate, if not go for parades or attend seminars but thank and remember those great people because of whom we are living the kind of free life, we indeed live today. We are all the most gleeful countrymen/countrywomen now, aren’t we? ‘’Independence Day (August 15) or Republic Day (January 26) is a very important occasion for all citizens including a civil servant. For a civil servant, the day is busier as being a Government functionary, he participates in various ceremonial programmes organised by the Government Departments at Central, State or District levels depending on the place of his posting. He attends ceremonial parade in the morning, cultural programmes during the day and is generally at Home’ in the evening. In case he is District Magistrate, he hoists the National Flag and takes the salute as Chief Guest at the Ceremonial Parade, inspects the Guard of Honour and delivers the Independence/Republic Day message. Besides, civil servants attend similar programmes at schools/colleges and NGOs.Sequence does not change much for a retired civil servant also. For Example, I as CEO of a large Cancer Hospital hoist the National Flag, inspect the Guard of Honour and deliver the Independence Day message. We also arrange sweets/refreshmentsfor patients particularly children. All in all, Independence Day and the Republic Day for a civil servant is very exciting and a day of pride and showcasing achievements of Government/Department.’’ RP SINGH (Retired Civil Servant and CEO Of Cancer Hospital)

Shivratri

It is again a very important festival for Hindus and is celebrated in reverence of Lord Shiva. It ofcourse has a story attached as to why it is celebrated. Mahashivratri is a day to rejoice and pray to the almighty for wellness. On this day, Hindu people believe to have all their prayers fulfilled. You know, if you have any such covets or desires, close your eyes and ask lord shiva and trust me, he doesn’t refuse any wish if its true. Are you wishing already? ShivratriIn the spirit of festivity, we make sure we never leave any festival behind. Shivratri is one such festival that my family celebrates. On this day, we fast while amazing mouth watering food is prepared for the end of the day to break the fast. To mark the birth of Lord Shiva, we go to the Shiv Temple on this day and pray for the family’s well being. Shivratri is celebrated with lots of happiness and love in my family and its one festival we all desperately wait for. SimranKarnwal, Student

Sankranti

MakarSankranti, apart from a harvest festival is also regarded as the beginning of an auspicious phrase of Indian culture. This festival has literal ‘wait’ going by everyone in India especially the children who love having fun flying kites and feeding themselves with tasty food items. This festival holds an eternal meaning to it. Tell me that you are waiting for the 14th of January too, come on! Sankranti What we do is we usually have a family get together on this day. We invite all our friends and relatives to our place. The celebrations begin from the morning itself. You’ll find everybody on terrace since morning and do not come down until the sunset. We not only fly kites, but my brother and all do play cricket and other games too. There is a lot of music playing and chuckles all around. We have a kite flying competition between us which makes it even more fun. Mom and all cook amazing food and we dine on our terrace and then get down. Our neighbours come around too So it’s a giant family get together. -Nimisha Jain, Student

Pongal

As we all are already certain that our country is a land whose primary occupation and concern is all somehow related to agriculture, how could we even forget not celebrating this festival? We couldn’t commit that mistake even in our dreams. Pongal is basically a harvest festival which lasts for 4 long days, but short enough for those who eagerly and desperately count days for it to come soon .The celebrations for this festival includes drawing rangoli, having lovely get-togethers and freaking out on the delicious home cooked pongal with your family and friends, refreshing old memories. “Pongal is celebrated to convey appreciation to the Sun God for providing the energy for agriculture. A couple of days before the festive occasion ladies would clean and decorate the whole house with festoons. For us, Pongal is basically a 3 day festival. On Boogu, which is the first day of the festival, ladies in the house decorate the earthen vessel too with kum-kum and swastika. The eldest or the youngest member of the family is called to fill the pit with rice and water. Pongal, which is the cooked rice is offered to God. The next day is celebrated as MakarSankranti. Young lads rush upstairs to the terrace very early in the mornings; flying and sending kites towards the Sun God till late evenings. Later, the entire family sits together for dinner with Maa serving very delicious ‘Paisam’, which is made of rice and milk. Mattu Pongal marks the last day of the festival. we prepare sweets and savouries, visit our relatives and exchange greetings. The house is decorated with Rangoli and Kolam too, it is so much fun .” AdityaSoni, Student TULIP - JANUARY, 2016 47

OLD The New Gold Macarena Macarena Macarena que te gustan los veranos de Marbella‌None of us clearly ever knew what the lyrics meant (perhaps still don’t), and yet the evergreen song found its way, as if for eternity, into our playlists (and stayed). On the same plane as this nearly 22 year old playlist treasure, are other vintage favorites in categories of varying degrees, handed down generations and generations, and preserved for timehonored value.

Yousuf Manzil Haweli

Old places have a soul of their own. This 130 year old, immemorial and prestigious haweli, located at Tolichowki, belongs to the ancestors of Samad Moosa. The foundation of this beautiful haweli still stands strong and is respectfully used as a set for film shoots time and again. The interiors of the haweli embody in-line doors that play the role of walk-ins, leading to aesthetic halls which earlier had held eye-pleasing, vintage portraits. The extensive property is externally color-washed in a dimming brown, making it noticeably vintage, only further enhancing its appearance.

SPECIAL French Glass Crockery

“And the potter said unto the clay ‘BE WARE’, and it was.” Crockery throws every woman into a gibbering ecstasy and has succeeded in remaining a woman’s favorite for time traditional. However, only rarely is a man’s love for crockery witnessed. Moe Mirza is not an aficionado of any ordinary fetish. He belongs to the rare class of men who are fanatics of vintage crockery. This special individual owns a prepossessing set of French vintage, glass crockery that could mesmerize one with the design alone. This spellbinding set has been passed on to this young individual’s family from generations above, and yet its quality remains unaltered. Sensationnel!

French Furniture

As you evolve, your home should too, and the furniture in it should have a personality that is as beautiful as you. Kunal Singhi is a chirpy man who loves to come home not only to a comfortable, but an enticing habitation. He indulges in the personal selection of his paraphernalia to secure his peace of furniture. His personal favorite in his abode is a section cornering a chair, accompanied with a table. This is his own attempt to bring about a fraction of France in his run-of-the-mill circumference. The beautifully designed furniture was initially owned by Kunal’s grandest-parents, but he now has the privilege to call it his own.

Brass Hookah

Hookah was yet another matter of prestige, inhaled since times ancient. The hookah that, earlier, only pertained to tobacco is now presented in different forms and flavors. Ansh Asthana, one of the many young Hookah devotees, expresses pride in the oldest, senile Hookah that he blissfully owns. Besides Ansh, his friends and colleagues too, are all very willingly self-claimed Hookahians. Originally, a belonging of the grandparents to his parents, the brass hookah has, till present day, been maintained in its best condition. TULIP - JANUARY, 2016 49

Buick Car

They say if you can spot a classic in an atypical mass, chances are you have one to protect of your own. Junaid Mirza owns beautiful vintage cars, out of which the Buick Super 8 is his favorite. The 1947 American Buick is a classic that was passed on to sir Junaid from his father who, too, was a diehard car lover. The winsome Buick sends a person, at the very first glance of her beauty, on a whimsical journey of her captivating history and her indelible time period. Primal to its authenticity, this left-hand drive, powers an 8 cylinder engine. Sir Junaid aims to preserve the Buick’s grandeur that he has been successful in achieving so far.

Louis Vuitton Bag

“In order to be irreplaceable, one must be different” one must be like a Louis Vuitton. Louis Vuitton has been close to the heart of every being, especially those belonging to the feminine gender. Aniqua Bilgrami is another dedicated member of this favored LV club. The most favorite Louis Vuitton that Miss Aniqua owns was bestowed upon her by her mother. The pretty bag, passed from mother to daughter, continues to remain in a wonderful and unchanged condition, so much so, that one might even mistake it for not being a vintage piece.

Marine Clock

“The question of whether a computer can think is no more interesting than the question of whether a marine can swim.” Adding a nautical flair to the marines, besides all the other significant tools, gadgets, contrivances, devices and objects, are clocks. Mayank Raj finds most interesting in his house, the vintage marine clock. The clock was the property of Mayank’s great grandfather who was one among the few maritime enthusiasts of his time, and the memories of his great grandfather have conscientiously been contained in the compact sea instrument. 50 JANUARY, 2016 - TULIP

SPECIAL Ancestral Swords

“A sword never kills anybody; it is only a tool in the killer’s hand” or merely an article of decoration in his house. Belonging to the Paigah family, swords has been a usual sight to Fazal Khan. These vintage, mostly antique, swords have been handed down to the former generation by his ancestors in whose age swords symbolized power and prestige. Made of steel, these swords hang on the walls and amplify the interiors of the Khan house. Throwing back to (ancient, Historical) Thursday, the Paigah family possessed an army of their own that utilized these constructive and utilitarian swords to attain victory, making these swords priceless in the channel through time.

Besides objects, buildings and cars, there is that vintage fashion too, that has made such a solid comeback in the form of makeup and clothes, that one can’t help but assume that vintage obsession will soon take over the modern-day obsessions, or at least as close to merge with them.

Vintage Makeup Comeback Winged Eyeliner

The style that initially picked momentum in the 1960s is now an emerging technique practiced by all girls and women, and if perfected, receives the “on fleek” or “on point” approval. The goal of a Gen X female, presently, is to produce a ‘winged eyeliner’ sharp enough to cut a person. Nabeela Meenazi, a Fashion Designer, beautifies her makeup with the perfect winged eyeliner.

Nude, Matte Makeup

“Browns, taupes, spices”, the 1990s was an era of aggressively natural, Calvin Klein chic makeup, which has now made a powerful comeback. Gen X now appears to be going back to the phase when nudity in makeup was the most appealing. Hafsa Maqavi sports nude, matte makeup in the most efficient manner possible.

SPECIAL Neon Lips

While some may be following things the nude way, there are those that belong to the school of neon, bringing back the 1980s in action. Bright pinks, purples, and oranges, that were being viewed as ‘too bright for makeup’, sometime in the middle, are now must-haves for all the makeup maniacs. Aamna Salman, a budding Dentist and a part time makeup artist, wears the most suitable shade of neon that successfully enhances her face.

Red Lipstick

All the way from Queen Elizabeth in the 1960s, to Queen Victoria in the 1970s, and finally to the popular idol Marilyn Monroe in the 1990s, women were observed donning shades of red on their lips as a trademark. This red lipstick craze has returned with utmost zeal and seems to be everyone’s favorite. Aiswarrya Naidu shades her lips with her all-time-favorite red.

Vintage clothes that made a comeback Crop Tops

Beginning from modeling the Spice Girls in the 1990s, to even Christina Aguilera in the 2000s, crop tops make any woman look beautiful. While the crop tops had temporarily disappeared for a while, they have found their way back to the modern world of fashion and are noticeably appearing, styled in various way. Shahmeen Husain, an upcoming Fashion Designer, dresses herself in a cute, white crop top, teaming it up, in layer, with a spaghetti top.

A 3 Button Blazer

The blazers, that attained popularity in the 1920s, now seem to be coming back with the release of The Great Gatsby. Himanshu Sahni, a budding architect and photographer, suggests, “Always leave the last button, of the 3 button blazer, unbuttoned. If there is, in actuality, a universally applicable and acceptable rule, this is it.”

SPECIAL Aztec Prints

All the devotees of Audrey Hepburn would know her of her constant association with the Aztec prints. These tribal Aztec prints have come back in everything from socks to dresses. Shriya Kabra, a future Psychologist, stuns in a lovely Aztec print dress.

The Deep V Neck

Madonna popularized the deep V neck dresses to the extent that a deep v neck dress has become a necessary must-have to the wardrobe of all women. Manoghnya Vijaya dons this beautiful vintage comeback in black.

From the Expert’s Desk •

“If you’re wearing a dark lip color, make sure you don’t overdo it with your eye makeup. You want to complement your lips without looking too overdone, so focus on your eyelashes with an extra coat of mascara and skip any heavy eyeliner and dark eye shadow.”

“For men – to enhance a vintage attire, a hat to accentuate the style would be a wise decision.”

1)

Tell us something about yourself? I’m a very passionate, hard working and emotional about my work. I prefer being more at site’s than at office and that makes me more technical, strong and creative, as that helps to attain my project goals sooner.

2)

How did your journey in interiors sector begin? I started as an artist, selling paintings. As a décor director I later began executing sites as it gave me a lot of technical knowledge and also enhanced my designing skills. Overall it makes it more easier for me to bring alive my designs on site on a realistic base and possibilities are endless, as I always make it a point to keep my design ideas & concepts out of the box.

3)

Did you always wanted to be a part of this sector? I love being a part of this field but I have always wanted to be in something related to movie production as it is more of a creative challenging and I love to work for something new that has never been done before or explore new dynamics in terms of designing. I have done a project with Mr. Mani Ratnam for his movie (RAVAN) it gave me a lot of reference and learning for life, which helped me apply the same work style in later projects. I am really thankful of Mr.Sameer Chanda (ART DIRECTOR) & Mr. Mani Ratnam for the learning experience and guidance I got from them.

b: My next project is residential one more, it’s a very futuristic design with the mix of classical and modern works.

5)

Tell us a little about the previous projects you have worked on? I have recently finished a project on 14000sft Gym (STEEL GYM BY KUNAL GIR). This was my first gym project where Mr.Kunal Gir had completely trusted me and gave me free hand in terms of design. I used a lot of tough rugged and sporty colors to do the place and added a lot art and graphics keeping the time and budget in mind. At the same time wash room and changing room are planned more to five star standards for a pure customer comfort which is really important.

6)

AUTOMOBILES

Bike Ride with Madhavan Jay Madhavan Jay is a fun loving person who loves to party. He is an entrepreneur who is into “imports of advanced raw materials.” I love bikes more than I love cars. At present, I own a Triumph thunderbird storm which is 1700 cc. It is a pure power cruiser and it’s intimidating to look and ride. My dream bike would be Triumph Rocket 3 Roadster. About Triumph Thunderbird Storm - Triumph Thunderbird Storm is just the muscle cruiser for you. It’s basically a liquid-cooled Thunderbird 1600cc bored out to 1700cc with 107mm pistons pumping out to 73kW (98ps). Unlike most cruisers, it’s not powered by a V-twin but by a parallel twin which Triumph prefers. While the thumping vibe of a big V-twin is addictive, the parallel twin has its own appeal. I love its characteristic broad sweep of midrange torque and this is no different. There isn’t the low-down grunt you expect from a big cruiser, but a surge of 156Nm of torque from 3000 revs through to the red line. It might seem like a minimalist muscle cruiser, but it has awesome performance, quality build and you can personalise it with more than 100 factory accessories. TULIP - JANUARY, 2016 65

ENTERTAINMENT Will speak on Jiah’s case once it is cleared: Sooraj Pancholi Sooraj Pancholi says he would prefer to stay mum on the alleged suicide case of his ex-girlfriend Jiah Khan, even as CBI has in its charge sheet accused the actor of driving her to commit suicide. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed the charge sheet on December 9, citing that Sooraj made false promises to Jiah, who allegedly committed suicide in 2013. “Highs and lows are part of life. God is great. The case is still in court. 10 people have 10 different things to say about it. I will talk once the case is cleared. I don’t want to make a ‘khichdi’ (mess) out of it,” the actor told reporters here at the red carpet of 11th Guild Awards. The 25-year-old actor was launched in Bollywood this year by Salman Khan in “Hero”. When asked if he has the superstar’s support in the case, Sooraj said, “Salman has got nothing to do with it. Like every family, my family is supporting me and I am supporting my family.”

Mira’s opinion is very important to me, says hubby Shahid Kapoor

Shahid Kapoor is someone who believes in listening and respecting the opinions of his loved ones. For the moment, it is his wife Mira Rajput whose opinions he takes seriously. Speaking at the Guild Awards 2015, Shahid Kapoor said: “Mira is very independent. She comes to the sets as well at times. She knows most of my friends. She is experiencing everything that I have experienced in my life and I am experiencing everything that she has experienced. Just the same way as people who are my friends and family and who care about me, the same way Mira tells me what she feels. Her opinion is very important to me.” Shahid Kapoor also revealed that he felt extremely hurt and angry when Shaandaar flopped at the box-office. “You feel very angry and hurt when a film doesn’t work. The emotions are very similar to what you experience when you go through a breakup,” said Shahid at the Guild Awards 2015 held in Mumbai on Tuesday (December 22).

Kardashian Christmas Card 2015 Is Here

Will Smith looks to win his first Academy Award with “Concussion” When you take a look at the Best Actor race this year, you really do see it as a clash between contenders who seem overdue for an Oscar. There’s of course presumed frontrunner Leonardo DiCaprio, poised to win for The Revenant since predictions for this year began, along with other hopefuls such as Johnny Depp for Black Mass. The other really notable player is Will Smith for Concussion, who is as due an Academy Award as anyone else in the hunt. With Concussion set to open this week, I wanted to take a look at Smith’s chances, as well as that of the film itself…

It’s officially Kris-mas! The Kardashian family just released their amazing Christmas card for 2015, and we’re so excited to see they brought the tradition back — but the family photo had some brand new stars this years: North West and Penelope, Mason and Reign Disick! We’ll finally be able to sleep this holiday season now that the 2015 Kardashian & Jenner holiday card has arrived. But, instead of the entire family posing for one massive picture, the torch has been passed to the next generation. You HAVE to see the totally adorable pic of North West, Mason, Penelope and Reign Disick. The toddlers look completely perfect in matching black outfits for this perfect photo, which Kim posted to her website on Dec. 23. While Penelope and North make sassy faces for the camera, Mason holds tight to his little bro, Reign. Unfortunately, the newest addition, Saint West, either wasn’t born yet, or was simply too young to take part in the epic photo. The Kardashians have been known for creating the most elaborate holiday cards, but considering they decided to take a break from the tradition last year (the family was going through a lot), we weren’t quite sure whether or not we’d be getting something this time around. But, this shot of the kids is even more than we could’ve hoped for!

Kapil Dev, VVS Laxman hail ‘complete batsman’ Ajinkya Rahane

Kapil Dev, India’s 1983 World Cup winning captain, and former batsman VVS Laxman have endorsed Ajinkya Rahane as a ‘complete batsman’ on whom the current Indian batting unit can depend on for the considerable future. Both legends of the game singled out Rahane’s twin centuries in India’s win over South Africa at the Feroz Shah Kotla earlier this month as a proof of the Mumbai batsman’s adaptability and focus, with Laxman pinpointing a stint with Rajasthan Royals three years ago as instrumental to Rahane’s resurgence as an all-formats player.” Certain players keep adapting and improving and he is one of those cricketers, who everyday is going to shock you because he’s going to play above what you expect him to,” said Kapil, speaking at an event organized by broadcasters Star Sports ahead of India’s departure to Australia. “There are some cricketers of whom you think a lot but they don’t perform to expectations. Ajinkya Rahane, every time he goes in, you end up saying ‘he played better than I thought he would’. And that is what is the best part about this Indian team, and of Rahane - he’s started performing at that level.

Movie Reviews Bajirao Mastani One of the best movies in 2015. The movie is made on the Maratha Royalty and Peshwa’s power. Ranveer Singh is the man of the match who really worked flawlessly in this film. Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra were equally brilliant. First half established the love and power of Bajirao and Mastani. But in the second half, we expected little more action as Bajirao was a truly undefeated warrior but instead story lead to his madness and frustration towards his failure in keeping Mastani safe and her acceptance in the royal family. But, yes people loved the way how the love story ended in a very different way and anyway people again loved it.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens If you are sci-fi lover or any genre lover, star wars: the force awakens is a must movie. It’s a complete pack reloaded with action, drama, thrill and what not. Today it is probable that PC games will offer a deeper and more satisfying entertainment solution, but for pure visual and aural pleasure, mixed with basic emotional manipulation, there has never and will never be a better example of cinema than when star wars appeared over 25 years ago. Being the most awaited movie of the year, the box office has cracked out with a huge gathering.

Nava Manmadhudu One of the biggest assets of the film is the love story between Amy Jackson and Dhanush. The love story looks quite fresh and has been executed extremely well. The various emotions, romance and conflict point have been dealt in a superb way and forms most part of the first half. As the film moves into the second half, the mature love story between Dhanush and Samantha is nicely executed. Dhanush is superb in his role and has two different shades to portray. Amy Jackson is superb in the first half and strikes superb chemistry with Dhanush.

TULIP - JANUARY, 2016 77

TAROT

Forecast For

January 2016

- Tarot reading by Nupur Heda Patil

Hello readers, This month, the angels will concentrate on your true feelings and actions. Check out your energy meter this month and plan ahead fearlessly. Happy January!

CAPRICORN

(born December 22 - January 19) Change is a predictable theme for every New Year. This one is no different, and I’m inviting you to contemplate a few changes for 2016. Part of the beauty of who you are is your stability and your ability to keep your stoic calm in tact in times of upheaval (and there’s been no shortage of upheaval in your world lately - so you’ve been doing great at keeping sturdy). But the flavor of 2016 is a bit different from years past, and this is going to require you to re-evaluate your strategy. Your old formulas aren’t going to work. Does this mean you have to ditch your traditions? Or toss out your tried and true ways of doing things? Absolutely not!! But you do need to recognize the necessity for change, adjustment, flexibility and being more open-minded. Don’t be a slave to a set of rules. Besides, 2016 will let you break a few of them.

AQUARIUS

(born January 20 - February 18) Sometimes I feel like you are the mad scientists of the zodiac in your laboratory, observing, mixing, recording and always reinventing. 2016 will have you expounding on your observations. There’s tons of potential for you to excel this year. But there is a caveat. You’re going to have to fall back on proven research to make the advances you seek. This means you’re going to have to check, check and double check the facts you’ve been gathering over the past year. And you’ll have to stick to your research because you will meet opposition in your pursuit for advancement in 2016. Being resolute in your position will serve you, but don’t get nasty about it. Scientists have a pretty levelheaded approach to their research and execution. The same approach is advisable for you too. If you find you can’t convert opposition, then suspend your opinions until another window opens or a more opportune moment presents itself.

PISCES

(born February 19 - March 20) Put your seat belts on because 2016 is going to zoom. Unique events will play out that will require you to really stay focused in the moment. You will also be called into action. No more sitting on the sidelines. This year has you smack-center in the middle of the arena a battling in high glory. All this activity at high speed is going to make your head spin. That’s why a discipline of maintaining presence, inner focus and grounding is essential. Rely on those who have always supported you - they will assist in keeping you centered. Also go back to hobbies and recreational activities you love to keep you in touch with the moment. I’d also encourage you to take stock of past victories - observe the wake 78 JANUARY, 2016 - TULIP

in the waters you’ve left your legacy. By observing the constructive trails you’ve left behind, you’ll find more stability in the heat of actionpacked adventure coming your way.

ARIES

(born Mar. 21 - April 19) The theme for 2016 is one of harmony for you. Partnerships you’ve already established will be intensified this year. Of course, new love is on the horizon for you this year too. Stoke the tender flames that are the object of your desire and passion. You’ll need to nurture these new loves along the way. This year will challenge you to stick with your passion long enough to see it blossom like a luminous lotus. Your resolutions may also involve learning (or brushing up on) a new language. Not just any language, heart language. Move your awareness out of your mind and into your heart. The angels observed the heart has a special mentality of its own. Commit to learning your heart language it will serve you immensely this year.

TAURUS

(born April 20 - May 20) No more sitting on your gifts. No more hiding your light. This year you must begin the unfolding process particularly in realms of specialized education. 2016 will see you gaining more wisdom and insight. This knowledge may come in unorthodox packages, so be prepared to dive more deeply into realms of intuition, healing and introspective observation. Consider expanding your world by exploring the arts this year too. Catch a musical, visit your local art museum, or finger paint. Creativity is a vehicle that gets more deeply into the realms of the Soul, and that’s where you’ll want focus this year. Also consider meditation. Increase your time if you already meditate, or do some research about it if you don’t already. You’re going to be sharing your gifts at the end of this year and especially 2015, so take notes on all your educational discoveries!

GEMINI

(born May 21 - June 20) Lots of new, new, new trails to blaze for you this year. Approach these fresh directions with a childlike transparency. You have nothing to prove (you’re already the queen of tantrums), so leave your ego at the back door. Relax into this New Year. You’ve been through a great deal of obstacles and this had given you some incredible lessons. And where some might carry these lessons as bad baggage your load is light because you recognize the value of the insight you’ve gained over the last year. Have fun with your new adventures for 2016. Maintaining

TAROT a childlike sense of awe and wonder must be your top resolution this year. There is potential packed in every step you take. The slate is clean, and so you are poised is an incredibly powerful position. The sky is the limit - all you need to do is center yourself in honesty, love and keep a jovial outlook.

CANCER

(born June 21 - July 22) Last year may have had your head down, mired in the miniscule. You spend a lot of time with your nose to the grindstone, hammering out a lot of details. And this will serve you greatly for 2016 because you’re going to take all the details and amass them into a greater, grander picture. Finally the pieces are coming together to formulate a landscape that makes perfect sense. Where last year was about focusing on the tiny this year will cast your eyes upon the expansive! I also see you pouring out your gifts to the world the latter half of this year. You will get several propositions opportunities to shine in the public eye. You’ll make the most out of these invitations to sparkle because you are ready. All that focus and hard work last year will serve you in the opportunities coming your way this year.

LEO

(born July 23 - August 22) The theme for you this year is all in your perception. 2016 is going to roll some surprises your way - these will either empower you (and place you on top of your game) or they could potentially cripple you. The deciding factor in whether you suffer or succeed will be in your approach. Thankfully, your metal has already been tested. Last year put you right in the hot seat and so you’re becoming quite a veteran at handling the curve balls life can throw. You’ve also got natural charisma and a genuine knack for utilizing your resources effectively. My guess is you’ll roll with the punches divinely. You’ve earned a few stripes from past experiences. These experiences have taught you a few lessons about tact and balance. Those of you who haven’t learned those lessons (by being stubborn and not practicing self-honesty) will have a second chance at learning how to adjust attitudes and tailor your perception in new ways. Life is crafted through your own personal views.

VIRGO

(born August 23 - September 22) This year, I feel will have you sitting in prime style. I get the impression you’ve been craving attention and recognition for a while now, and 2016 is going to deliver that visibility you so deeply require. So what are you going to do with it? What will you do when the light shines on you? You’ll need to give this a great deal of consideration because 2016 is a ?make or break” kind of year. You can choose to soak up the attention in healthy ways. This will lead to fabulous new creations - I’m talking new creative births that are positively stellar. Or, you can choose to fuss, nitpick and find reasons why this new attention is ill suited for you. This avenue, obviously, won’t reap the full benefits you deserve. The choice is yours.

LIBRA

attention? Are you heeding the advice and taking note of the signs? You have some fabulous structures already in place that will navigate you to success. However, there are other habits and controls you have in place that are absolutely crap. You know what I’m talking about. Revise and clear out the behaviors that are killing your ability to grow. You know the ones? You’ve been getting messages about these limiting aspects of your behavior for a while. Once you drop the nonsense, you will find yourself experiencing an electrified life completely? Switched on” and energized for growth. If you keep holding on to the foundations that are crippling your progress, well, 2016 will prompt you to reevaluate your persistence in dishonoring yourself.

SCORPIO

(born October 23 - November 21) Honesty is going to be your keynote this year. I feel like you’ve been stuffing this phenomenally brilliant aspect of yourself. Maybe covering it up with humor, substance abuse, modesty or maybe you’ve been ignoring this incredibly bright light radiating within you. 2016 will offer you the mobility and vehicles required to unleash your vibrancy. Mind you, it won’t be easy because I feel like you’ve been squashed under a rock for quite some time. My advice? Be willing to be honest about who you are. Be honest and your ability to receive the love, warmth and positive attraction you deserve. There has been a great deal of potential power and dynamic energy waiting on you to identify it. Your unveiling is at hand.

SAGITTARIUS

(born November 22 - December 21) 2016 will have you pursuing and speaking your truth with more authority than ever before. You’ve gone through a series of miniidentity crises, and now it’s time you roll out of that bog and step up on higher ground. It’s going to take perseverance, patience, organization and determination to put you up on the high path. Some of these aren’t your strong suit. My suggestion? Your passion is the target. Keep your focus tight on the center of that which keeps your flames burning. Aim your attention at the passions that keeps you engaged and inspired. Doing this will win you a bulls eye every time. Remain strong in the conviction offered by your true loves this will restore your authentic power this will put you on the high path of authority.

SAGITTARIUS

(born November 22 - December 21) Change is a predictable theme for every New Year this one is no different, and I’m inviting you to contemplate a few changes for 2016. Part of the beauty of who you are is your stability and your ability to keep your stoic calm in tact in times of upheaval (and there’s been no shortage of upheaval in your world lately - so you’ve been doing great at keeping sturdy).
