WILL BRITNEY

Spears Marry Jason Trawick?

Is Britney Spears ready to become a bride once more? As she enjoys mammoth sales and the strongest reviews of her career for seventh studio album Femme Fatale, will she settle down for good with Jason Trawick? “Maybe someday,” she teases. “Never say never!” Not a glowing quote, but she adds: “We have such a great time together! He makes me laugh, and are so comfortable being ourselves. I’ve never been happier!” A family source says that the blissful pair will likely wed down the road, as Jason Trawick “was one of the only people who stuck by her through everything.” In 2007 and early 2008, Spears lost custody of her sons Sean, 5, and Jayden, 4, to ex Kevin Federline, and was briefly admitted to a psychiatric hospital. Trawick, then her agent and now her boyfriend of two years, never wavered. “[Jason] was someone she felt she could be her true self with. [Marriage] is what they talk about and the direction they’re going in,” the insider says. Spears, who just released her new “Till the World Ends” video, does look so much healthier these days, don’t you think? We’re glad she’s happy.

CHELY WRIGHT and Lauren Blitzer Engaged!

S

She received death threats Wright is engaged to Lauren Blitzer. When she first came out, but now it’s all worth it for country singer Chely Wright. That’s because she’s found the love of her life. “Our country singer Chely Wright and her fiancée, Lauren Blitzer, a GLBT Civil Rights activist have set a date and plan to be married in Connecticut Aug. 20,” reads a statement. “They met through their youth advocacy work, and say that their passion for Scrabble holds them together.” Sounds like a triple word score - of happiness! - To us. Says Wright to People: “The freedom of being out and open about who I am allowed me to find and fall in love with Lauren, the most amazing woman I’ve ever known.” We wish this couple nothing but the best.

ANGELINA JOLIE

To Adopt Seventh Child

Is Angelina Jolie ready to adopt once again? During her U.N. goodwill trip to the Tunisia-Libya border this week, the actress was photographed showing a tattoo of a new set of map coordinates on her arm. The coordinates, as you probably know, mark the birthplaces of her six children - the first three adopted, the next three biological with partner Brad Pitt. So is #7 on the way? It’s unclear, although the numbers are there. The coordinates are hard to read, but the North African region Jolie is visiting would be an appropriate choice. A source close to Jolie warns not to read too much into her skin art, but you have to wonder. It does fit the pattern of the other SIX TATTOOS right there. Those coordinates mark the births of: One Maddox, 9, from Cambodia/Two Pax, 7, from Vietnam/Three Zahara, 6, from Ethiopia/Four Shiloh, 4, born in Namibia/Fifth Vivienne and Knox, 2 born in France. What do you think? Is a Libyan refugee about to join the family? Is there any celebrity cooler than Angelina Jolie? 8 TULIP APRIL 16-30, 2011

BIPASHA & RANA New Best Friends

B

Bipasha Basu and Rana Dagubatti got to know each other only when they started shooting for Rohan Sippy’s film Dum Maaro Dum, but both the actors gelled so well that nobody could say that they were strangers before Dum Maaro Dum happened. The latest that we hear is that Bips has found a 3 am friend in Rana. If rumors are to be believed, the bong beauty dials Rana, every time time she has a problem or something new to share. News also has it that Bips gave him Hindi lessons. The Bong bombshell finds him sweet and nice. She says, “He is like our usual crop of young heroes in Bollywood, hassle-free”. With John Abraham out of her life, looks like she has found solace in Rana’s arms. Bipasha is romantically paired with Rana in the film Dum Maro Dum.

SALMAN THE REASON Behind Ranbir-Katrina Breakup

I

If buzz is to go by, It is Salman Khan who is responsible for the break-up between his ex flame Katrina Kaif and her now ex flame Ranbir Kapoor. According to reports, the reason for Ranbir and Katrina’s break-up is Katrina’s secret and friendly visit to Salman Khan when he was shooting for his upcoming film Bodyguard in Pune. Ranbir came to know about a secret visit and called off the so called “love affair”. Buzz also has it that Kats travelled in an ordinary car so as to avoid the paparazzi. However, Salman Khan himself made sure that the news of Katrina’s hush-hush visit reached Ranbir’s ears. The young actor was obviously furious to know that his gal was still making secret visits to her ex. What followed next was a fight between Ranbir and Katrina and their subsequent break-up. Now, Ranbir is rumored to have moved closer to his co-star in Rockstar, Nargis Fakhri and Salman too is rumored to have moved back to his ex flame Somy Ali leaving Katrina all alone.

DEEPIKA PADUKONE

N

Is Siddharth’s Dream Girl

Not many are able to date their dream girls, so, we can say Siddharth Mallya is one lucky guy. It seems Siddharth had a dream to date actress Deepika Padukone and he is living his dream at the moment, as they are said to be seeing each other. Friends of Mallya revealed that he used to tell them that he wanted to date Deepika even before she entered film industry. He couldn’t approach her because of her relationship with Nihar Pandya and then Ranbir Kapoor. But once she was single again, he apparently told his dad Vijay Mallya that he wanted to date her. It seems daddy cool is more than happy to welcome Deepika home. He apparently suggested his son that they invite Prakash Padukone and daughter home, as they are also from Bangalore. However, Siddharth is said to be not yet ready for that. He is way too shy to invite his dream girl and her dad. Well, Siddharth and Deepika have been bonding like never before of late! Coming IPL and you will see more of them.

HANSIKA TURNS

S

Busy with bunch of Films in hand

Signing 5 films at a time is not a joke for any actress. One needs to plan his/her dates perfectly so as not to clash with each other. In this line teenage beauty Hansika, who presently has 2 Telugu films and 3 Tamil films in her kitty has planned her dates for all her 5 films perfectly. After ‘Seetarama Kalyanam Lankalo’ the actress was not seen on Telugu screen for more than a year. Now she is presently doing ‘Kandireega’ in Telugu with Ram as her co-star. The duo had earlier acted in ‘Maska’. She also informed, “My two films in Telugu are also under the big banners. ‘Kandireega’ is being produced by Bellamkonda Suresh under Sri Sai Ganesh Productions Pvt Ltd., and my 2nd film ‘O My Friend’ is being produced by Dil Raju under Sri Venkateswara Creations banner. Both these films will also be released in this year only. And my roles in both the films are quite interesting. So altogether I’ve 6 releases in this year only, hence 2011 is my year.” When asked how she is managing the pressure of doing 6 films at a time she answered, “I’m 19 now and I decided to work hard at this age.“

TAAPSEE SIGNS Film opposite Gopichand

O

Offers are pouring in for Taapsee although she has not delivered anything big so far. We are aware that the actress has signed her first bollywood flick for David Dhawan’s remake of ‘Chasme Baddoor’. Now, yet another interesting news is that she has grabbed another film, this time in Telugu. This movie titled ‘Mogudu’ is Krishna Vamsi’s latest directorial venture with Gopichand as hero. The film was recently launched and is said to be taking a brisk shape. Nallamalapu Srinivas (Bujji) is producing it under Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Productions banner with music by Kalyani Malik. On the other hand, as mentioned earlier Taapsee’s ‘Mr Perfect’ is ready for release shortly, she also has ‘Vanthaan Vendran’ in Tamil which will also hit theaters shortly. This apart she is going to make her debut in Malayalam through Mammotty starrer ‘Doubles’. This way Taapsee can be considered as the busiest Indian actress at present.

RAM GOPAL VERMA’S Oka Prema Katha, A Real Life Incident

R

Ram Gopal Varma has announced his next film titled ‘Oka Prema Katha’ that would hit floors very soon. The story of this film is based on the real life incident that occurred on May 7th, 2008, in Mumbai. The incident is such that a girl named Maria Susai Raj and her lover brutally killed a person and chopped his body into pieces and burnt it with kerosene and threw the ashes in the outskirts. Now Ram Gopal Varma is planning a bilingual film in Hindi and Telugu simultaneously based on this story. ‘Dev D’ fame Mahi Gill was chosen to do the role of Maria Susairaj. Other cast in the film will be announced shortly. Ram Gopal Varma in his press note said, “This is the scariest murder I have ever heard off. In regard to this case I met their friends, relatives, policemen, investigators, lawyers, etc. I was shocked to know from them how unbelievable love story was behind this brutal murder. Love has led two of them to murder. Love made the dead body into pieces. Love has led them to the cruelty. This love story has come from a heart but this film is definitely not for the weak hearted persons.”

“Untouchable”, Afridi to BCCI

Shahid Afridi feels deeply hurt and has appealed to the Indian Cricket Board that Pakistan players shouldn`t be treated as “untouchables” when it comes to including them in the cash-rich Indian Premier League. “It is high time that Pakistani cricketers should also get a place in IPL. For three seasons including the current one, we haven`t been a part of the IPL. We have no problems playing in India as we have just played a World Cup semi-final there. We are deeply hurt that they are treating us like `untouchables`,” Afridi said. As many as 11 Pakistan players were part of inaugural season of IPL in 2008. Afridi was the costliest Pakistani player who was bagged by the Hyderabad team for USD 675,000. Pakistani players missed out on the 2009 and 2010 editions due to security concerns in the wake of Mumbai terror attacks. For Afridi, Indo- Pak matches are not war as players of both teams share great rapport off the field.

WEBBER FASTEST In Malasia practice

R

Red Bull’s Mark Webber set the fastest time in Friday’s opening practice session for the Formula One Malaysian Grand Prix, finishing more than 1.6 seconds clear of the rest of the field. The Australian driver, eager to make up for a disappointing performance in the season-opening. Australian Grand Prix, was well ahead of second-fastest Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and third-fastest Michael Schumacher of Mercedes. There were some worrying wheel failures at high speed in the session that affected both Renaults and a Virgin. Renault’s Nick Heidfeld had his right front permanently lock during the early part of the session and completed most of the lap with his undertray kicking up sparks. He’d set the seventh-best time before the incident. The problems deepened for Renault when Vitaly Petrov’s front left wheel and suspension exploded under braking, sending the Russian spearing over a gravel trap. However, both Hispania cars appear to be at risk of not qualifying for Sunday’s race, as both Karthikeyan and Vitantonio Liuzzi’s best times were more than 7 percent slower than Webber’s time. They need to be within 7 percent of the best car in the first part of Saturday’s qualifying or they cannot race. McLaren’s Jenson Button was also well off the pace _ 3.3 seconds slower than Webber _ and he complained of poor rear grip during the session.

ROONEY GETS

U

Tow -match Ban for Tired

United star Wayne Rooney has been banned for two matches following his expletiveladen tirade at a television camera, the FA confirmed. Rooney will now miss United’s upcoming Premier League clash with Fulham as well as their FA Cup semifinal clash with Manchester City on April 16 after an appeal by the club was rejected. Rooney had surprisingly been charged with using abusive language after he swore into a camera following his hat-trick in the 4-2 win over West Ham at Upton Park. The charge carried a mandatory two-match suspension but United had appealed to have the ban cut to one match. “Rooney had admitted a charge for the use of offensive, insulting and/or abusive language, but claimed that the automatic penalty of two games was clearly excessive,” an FA statement said. News of the ban came after Rooney scored the winning goal in Manchester United’s 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the Champions League quarterfinals at Stamford Bridge. Ferdinand’s comments came as soft drinks giant Coca-Cola confirmed it had dropped Rooney from its advertising campaigns, a deal which had been worth £600,000 (683,000 euros, $980,000) a year. SPECIAL BONDING

MOM & ME

By Bhuvana Balaji

The most intimate bond in the family is the one shared by a mother and her daughter. They have a bittersweet relationship, which goes through a number of ups and downs in lifeByand still turns Bhuvana Balaji out to be the most cherished of all the other relationships. In her childhood, a daughter always follows her mom’s footsteps and aspires to be like her when she is grown up. Sarita Kapoor and Shipra Gandhi have shared the exact similar affinity in their relationship and make the word mother-daughter sound like it exclusively exists for them.

Sarita Kapoor, fascinated by the idea of a beauty parlour, started one 25years back when she graduated and has had a very successful stint with working on what she has always loved to do. “I have been running the parlour for a long time now as this has always been my passion and I am glad I could make it my profession too,” says Sarita with a broad smile. Sarita Shipra run the very famous Shivani Herbal beauty parlour in Hyderabad which has a reputed name in the tinsel town. “The bonding between me and my daughter has been very special since forever. We have lived together throughout the glitches and the celebrations and I am really glad she has joined me in this profession, as we get to spend all the time in the world together,” Sarita quips. Shipra, like all daughters, has had her mom for a role model and has luckily had the same interest as her mother, due to which she could spend quality time at work with her mom even after getting married. “I specialized in herbal therapy and I have always had this as my passion too as somewhere down the lane, my mom had inculcated this interest in me, which I am really glad about. We always had this in mind and I am delighted this worked out so well for us,” says

Shipra with a radiant smile and her mother completely agrees with her. “It’s been seven years since I got married and we enjoy working together. The mother-daughter relationship has only grown stronger day-by-day. We share everything, be it on a professional front or our personal lives. I have had many treasured memories with her, which I will always cherish and touchwood…many more are yet to come!” Talking about one of the best moments in her life, Shipra smiles and says, “I was the happiest when I gotto know that even after getting married, I could work with my mom and see her daily. My husband had no problem when I said I wish to work with my mom. He just asked me to go ahead and has been supportive ever since.”

When asked as to how her mom has been an influence her life, she grins and says that for many girls, mom remain idols until a certain age, after a point of time they have their own interests and career options to look for. But, in her case, her mom has always been her role model whom she has sincerely followed. “I always have looked up to her. I liked the way she dealt with people and I also wanted to gain fame and popularity like she has done all these years,” she says as she looks at her mom affectionately. Talking about her mom’s way of working and her comfort level with her on a professional level, she says, “She is an amazing person to work with…she has never made me feel like she is the boss and she knows more than me. I have learnt a lot from her…the way she deals with clients, the way in which she manages family and work… she has helped me through thick and thin and I completely adore her for it.” Talking about her hobbies, Shipra says, “I love swimming and I read books…the best part is that my profession is my hobby, so I never get tired of experimenting with new things. I have also done a specialized course in Herbal therapy which is an added advantage. Other than that, I am preoccupied with family and I make sure I spend all my free time with them.” Sarita Kapoor talks about her daughter and the bond she shares with her. “We have a very precious relationship and she is the biggest blessing ever in my life. My daughter is a gift of love and she has stood by me all the time for which I am really grateful. My happiest moment was when her in-laws agreed to her working with me. We have great compatibility levels. Our professional life and our personal never clash. I guess that is why even Shipra observed admired and wanted to experience a similar phase in life.” A daughter is a little girl who grows up to be her mother’s friend. This has been very true in case of Sarita’s and Shipra’s life. Shipra has been a constant companion and a loving daughter while Sarita has been a responsible mother. Talking about her hobbies and interests, Sarita says, “Taking care of my4year-old grandson is my biggest hooby…I enjoy my time with him, we love swimming together…We do a lot of things together and he is an adorable and understanding boy. Other than that I have my parlour to attend to…so these things generally keep me busy.” “I have always been a much pampered daughter and now I am a pampered wife and an extra pampered Mom. My son makes me feel special and out of the world. He is a complete opposite of me. I was a very naughty kid when I was young, but he is a very calm boy and is sweet and loving at the same time. PIECE OF LIFE

Marriage Has No Age Bar By Deepa S K

Men and Women dream of love, romance, and sex when they think of marriage or even a great party, wedding march, sangeet and the rest. But what they really don’t get is that they are getting confused between a wedding and a marriage. Therefore, it really is becoming a quintessential thing to maintain a difference between partners. Well, on the other side, this is quite a debatable topic as age not necessarily transforms a person mature.

22 TULIP APRIL 16-30, 2011

PIECE OF LIFE This has always been a matter of question, does age actually matter? Well, be it in professional or personal life. There is a famous saying, “Never ask a woman her age or man his salary”. Somehow these words are coming to a zilch, with the way beauty and economy is booming. What we don’t realize is that these developments have actually created ripples in an unimaginable area- the love life. “Bhabhij, shaadi kay baad pyaar hojayega, aur pyaar main kyaa age bar?” This is one of the most common heard lines used by every marriage alliance agent. Well, this is generally one of the most common discussions in an arranged marriage. In love marriages, scenes can get a little bizarre, with guys falling in love with older women and women falling for young men. Experts, say that these things happen due to certain and uncertain psychological and emotional factors, which has not yet been completely explained. In other words no one knows why we tend to choose people who are older or younger to us. Nevertheless, age definitely plays a major part when it comes to a relationship. Be it marriage or a non marriage one. A typical Indian’s understanding of a partner would be a man who is at least 3 years older to her or younger than him. The experts say that men mature late and women the opposite and hence there is a definite need of a certain age gap. And hence we see a lot of our celebrities falling in and out of relationships barring age. So what is that thing that actually interest people to live and love them younger or older than themselves? Is it the father or mother like image or is it the puppy love or to be forever young feeling? Take for example Hollywood ex couple Bruce Willis and Demi Moore. Both their present partners are young. Or even take our very own Saif and Kareena; there is more than a 10 years difference. Is it just love or attraction or infatuation? You may ask me, aren’t grown up’s grown out of attraction and infatuation. Not necessarily! As a matter of fact, they never grow out of it. Attraction will remain till one goes to the grave and when it is pursued is what results in an affair. Coming back to age bar, if we ask a young girl, how she wants her man to be, she’d out rightly reply saying that she’d love someone who is like her dad. And it goes the same way for

guys as well. Psychology would term such a situation as Oedipus and Electra complex, where every child feels quite strongly for their mother and father respectively. Hence every man loves to see his mother and a woman her dad in her man. It’s a well understood fact that girl’s fall and has crushes for older men someone like a Richard Gere or a George Clooney. It’s just not their white pepper hair look, even the caring and I’m you’ knight in a shining armor feeling’ that a girl derives from a man way older to her. It’s another fact that, men become mellowed down and understanding as years pass by not missing the patient factor. So be it the lady tantrums or even her shopping or her raving mood swings, her handsome old man will always understand her. This cuts a very ‘mills and boons’ image of the hero who rescues the ‘always in trouble, lady damsel’. Well, you may not agree to me, this is one of the most common upcoming facts as to why girls fall in love with let me put it, ‘wiser men’. And what about women falling in love with younger me-it’s all about feeling and living young. And for the young men dating older women, it’s all about gaining mother’s mantle of love. They may deny it, but this definitely is one of the many facts. But still, when asked people, they would blame it all on ‘cupid’ saying love is blind and you’d never know when and where , what could happen. May be true may be not. The 21st century is translating the word of love into the words of money and power. Hence we see people of different businesses getting together, despite of that fact that they may be just over the eligible age. Keeping all these facts aside, let’s seriously look as to whether age difference does impact life. The answer is yes. Given the fact that men mature later than woman, the older the man is, the better it is for a relationship. Truth is he begins to understand relationships better and so also responsibilities. It’s a big gamble to say whether his tastes would turn to habits, like from a social drinking person to a complete drunkard or it may be with jobs as well. But the other part of it is that when, they end up getting married to really young women, they tend to become their baby sitters more than their partners. PIECE OF LIFE geet and the rest. But what they really don’t get is that they are getting confused between a wedding and a marriage. Therefore, it really is becomes a quintessential thing to maintain a difference between partners. Well, on the other side, this is quite a debatable topic as age not necessarily transforms a person mature. Experiences in life do play a very important role in shaping the personality and his/her view point of life. This is when the question rises, whether partners should have an age difference. So what could be the possible solution? None, I’m guessing. Marriage to some is an institution, for others it’s just a relationship to have an extended family and for the rest in can be truly a life worth living with a partner who is fortunate to suffice 3 out 5 of their priorities. As complex is the very decision making of a partner, so complex is the very relationship between couples. Now with gay men and women coming out of the box and living a life of their own, does the matter of age exist here as well. I’m not quite sure, as like every relationship, even they build the foundation of their deal on love. Yes, agreed love is complex, yet it needs two people to work it out. So, for a successful relationship what is important, is the age bar, is it the caste, is it the money, is it the status, is the family background, is it the physical quotient or is it love? My thinking is a little of all the above and more of the last one. But again a successful relationship does not really mean a bed of roses. Be it in a

relationship where there is a reasonable age difference, one partner is always on the receiving end and when this becomes too much, that’s when we get to compromise to a greater end, resulting in the loss of the very essence of love and life. Therefore, the safest and wiser way to build a relationship is to consider and analyze truly who and what you are and what you need. To know you, is to love yourself and there is no better judge than you. For some of us age doesn’t matter, but for most of us, age is definitely a factor or rather a mental satisfaction. It sounds like a permutation and combination equation. Nevertheless, this is what it takes to have a great relationship. So enjoy when your love when you live and enjoy life when in love. The catch here is to be rational and emotional. Now what takes the upper hand varies from person to person. Nothing in this world comes easy or for free. Very soon we will be paying for the air we breathe, until then safeguard your life and love but making the right choice. Again, what is right choice? That is something I cannot answer for you. 24 TULIP MARCH APRIL 01-15, 16-30, 16-31, 2011 2011 2011

TULIP FEATURE

Indian Cuisine

One of the world’s most sophisticated and diverse cuisines, only one part of the Indian cuisine is known to the world. The Indian food served in restaurants worldwide is North Indian, also known as Mughlai or Punjabi. There are other 3 categories of Indian cuisine: South, East and West. The foods are mostly vegetarian, but many include lamb, goat, chicken meat and even fish. The essence of good Indian cooking revolves around the appropriate use of aromatic Indian spices. The skill lies in the subtle blending of a variety of spices to enhance the basic flavor of a particular dish. Indian cuisine is usually very spicy so in order to enjoy the food, start slowly and in a few weeks you’ll get accustomed to the flavors. Meals are usually eaten without cutlery, while seated on the floor, but these traditions are starting to change for the restaurants oriented to the Europe or the US. Indian desserts are very tempting and mouth watering. Be it a scorching summer or a bone clattering winter Indian mithai is always too difficult to resist. A sumptuous meal is always incomplete without sweet dish likegulab jamun or kulfi or gajjar ka halwa.

Lebanese Cuisine

Mexican Cuisine

Known for its varied flavors and spices, Mexican Cuisine is a result of the Spanish conquistadores’ interaction with the Aztec culture. Most of the Mexican food we eat today is a delicious combination of ancient traditions, Aztec, Mayan and Spanish.. You can easily choose the restaurant you are going to eat in by popularity: restaurants with good food usually attract all the customers. Mexican food is popular throughout the world. But the kind you might be used to – tacos, nachos with guacamole, quesadillas, and enchiladas - is only a small part of this country’s culinary repertoire. The fundamental Mexican food is based on corn, black beans and chilies, but due to the variety of cultures and communities in Mexico, each region is marked by a distinct aroma, taste and texture. Good ingredients certainly count for a lot, but the Mexicans are also gifted cooks and seem to know how to give a dish that extra zing that makes it special. A simple salsa Mexicana is taken to new heights with a touch of cilantro and lime, while a complex mole sauce is always heavenly thanks to over thirty carefully-chosen herbs and spices which are added in and left to slowly simmer in the pot. Whether it’s humble tacos de pollo or a regal cochinita Pibil, the Mexican kitchen is filled with honest, flavorful food which is prepared in a host of interesting ways. 26 TULIP APRIL 16-30, 2011

The Lebanese cuisine is the place where you can taste all the goodness the Middle East has to offer. Foods are generally Mediterranean, Indian food, high on vegetables, little meat and full of flavors. Perhaps the most famous dish worldwide is the appetizer mezze – a selection of dips, pickles, salads and nibbles with Arabic bread. It also includes an abundance of fruit, fresh fish and seafood and little animal fat. The country is also famous for the Arabic sweets, Tripoli being referred to as the “Sweet Capital” of Lebanon. The essential concept in the Arabic cuisine is hospitality. Formal dinners and celebrations normally include large quantities of lamb (or veal), chicken, rice, stewed vegetables with tomato sauce and dishes seasoned with a variety of herbs and spices. Several other side dishes and salads are included. The national dish of Lebanon is kibbeh, an emulsified paste of the freshest lamb and bulgur wheat. The food of the entire Mediterranean region is a celebration of life; it is fresh, flavorful, diverse and invigorating.

Italian Cuisine

TULIP FEATURE

Perhaps one of the oldest in the world, the Italian cuisine can be traced back to the 4th century BC. It became what is today along with the discovery of the New World, that brought potatoes, tomatoes pepper or maize on the list of ingredients. An Italian meal is structured into several sections: antipasto (the appetizer), primo (pasta or rice dish), second (meat course), dolce (dessert). Italy is also famous for over 400 kinds of cheese and 300 types of sausages. Italy is a dream destination for anyone who loves food and drink - and the exciting thing is that Italian cuisine varies from region to region. This is the place to find out about specialties such as lardo di Colonnatafrom Tuscany, the seafood of Venice, or Italian cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano from Parma. It’s also where to find out about Slow Food; organic produce; Italian food festivals, liqueurs, the cafes of Turin or the wines of Tuscany - like Vin Santo, Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino or Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. You can’t miss out on the classic past, cheesy pizza, lasagna, risotto and delicious desserts especially tiramisu and much more!

Chinese Cuisine

Originated in various parts of China and now spread throughout the world, Chinese cuisine is now eaten by a third of the world’s population every day. The cuisine is easy to create, economical and tasty. Most of the food is prepared in bite-sized pieces because the Chinese culture regards knives and forks as weapons. Usually, every person at the table is given a bowl of rice while the other dishes are shared by everyone at the table. There are many kinds of Chinese food from North to South, East to West. Recipes of famous dishes Beijing duck, Shanghai noodles, Sichuan soup and Guangdong dumplings. Many Chinese dishes are cooked with less meat and more vegetables, so the foods contain lower calories and are less rich than Western style food. Vegetables stay bright and crisp by cooking them for a short time over high heat, either in their own juice or in a small amount of water. This method retains most of the vitamins and minerals. Tea drinking is an integral part the Chinese life and food experience. There are egg noodles, wheat noodles, and rice flour noodles. Chinese tea is believed to be good for you. The Chinese were the first to discover the tea leaf and have been drinking tea ever since in many varieties. It is no exaggeration to say that Chinese cuisine is exquisite in its items, esthetics, atmosphere, and effects.

Thai Cuisine

Many people say Thai food alone, with its balanced mix of hot, sour, bitter and sweet, is a good enough reason to visit the country. The foods are characterized by the use of fresh herbs and flavors, such as lime juice, lemon grass and fresh coriander. Similar to many Asian cuisines, rice is the main component in Thai foods as well. You will often come across nam pla, a strong fish sauce, shrimp paste and noodles. If you’re looking to get a kick of out your lunch, you should try the raw beef, fermented fish paste or deep fried insect larvae mostly present in the Northeast, where eating insects in fairly common. Thai food is internationally famous. Whether chilli-hot or comparatively blands, harmony is the guiding principle behind each dish. Thai cuisine is essentially a marriage of centuriesold Eastern and Western influences harmoniously combined into something uniquely Thai. A typical meal might include a clear soup (perhaps bitter melons stuffed with minced pork), a steamed dish (mussels in curry sauce), a fried dish (fish with ginger), a hot salad (beef slices on a bed of lettuce, onions, chillies, mint and lemon juice) and a variety of sauces into which food is dipped. This would be followed by sweet desserts and/or fresh fruits such as mangoes, durian, jackfruit, papaya, grapes or melon. APRIL 16-30, 2011 TULIP 27

MOVIE REVIEW

F.A.L.T.U.

World cup is over … now it’s a week more for the IPL to kick off so here is your weekend to while away and catch up with a movie in your nearest cinema halls. Before you head for a day of fun, butter popcorns and visual treat to those tired eyes, read on our verdict on this fortnight’s latest movie.

F

altu starts as a fun-n-frivolous campus film on the lines of Style but switches sensibilities to 3 Idiots somewhere in between with a moral message appended to its superficial story. The first thing that you notice about F.A.L.T.U. is its energy. The story might remind you of 3 Idiots but the big difference is there is no rona dhona, excessive or little sentiment. The narrative does look juvenile, especially the clichéd ending but what holds your attention is the pace, it moves fast, doesn’t give you time to get bored and before you sense monotony creeping in, you move onto a different scene. Also what makes the film an interesting watch is the absence of romance amongst the innumerable young and natural actors. Except for the title, nothing about the film is faltu, not the plot or even the narrative. It’s completely colorful like a party and the story goes on like a party. Many students who pass out of school with just pass marks get into a college which is not registered just to escape from parent’s harassment and have a ball in the campus. Most of them are either not inclined in studies, have poor IQ, lazy or plain irresponsible. They know they cannot get admission in a college as all of them ask for 70 percent and above. This story is designed to raise a question...What about the rest of the students who get pass marks of 36 or end up anywhere between 36 and below 70. A student asks, “Why doesn’t the college fail us instead of giving us pass marks which don’t guarantee us an admission?” Well, four students find an answer for this and inadvertently come up with a bogus college overnight just to overcome a temporary problem and end 34 TULIP APRIL 01-15, 16-30, 2011 2011

up providing an educational cover for scores of students like them. The rest of the story is predictable, parents getting to know the truth and the students dealing with the outcome in a simple way. What makes it similar to 3 Idiots? The architects of F.A.L.T.U. realize the key to success is by encouraging each one of them to choose a subject of their choice, what they like most or inclined to and have the potential to excel. Instead of dragging tutors to educate them for the simple reason that they might let the cat out of the bag they bring in digital education. The finale is dramatic and artificial though, they force their way into a dance competition of schools and emerge winners bringing legibility and legality to their college. The biggest relief again is that there is no lamba chauda moral lesson by Mithun Chakraborty who plays a cameo. Talluri Rameswari makes a brief appearance and has exactly two words to speak. Everything is brisk, light but with a message. Dialogues too are fresh, colloquial and some which refer to homo-sexuality could have been censored. One character that stands out is that of a student’s father who owns a scrap shop, who sees a meaning and a discovery in everything that’s discarded but fails to notice the unutilized intelligence of his child. Songs are vibrant and peppy. F.A.L.T.U. is a film that would appeal to the youth and also the adults, it is light-hearted but with a message in allusion to the lop-sided educational system. But for the plot and endearing and confident performances by the ensemble cast, you would definitely term the film completely faltu. Rating: 3 out of 5

Paint the Town

Yellow! By Saloni Gupta

Trend... call it loud, call it whatever but you can’t go wrong with this color of the season! The color also gets determined by the change of seasons. With summers the bright and glossy colors give way to lighter shades. This is an important aspect and hence in the summer season we see that the colors like whites and yellow dominate the wardrobe. Going out to a party and want to make a great first impression? Don a cheery yellow outfit that you just can’t go wrong with. An eye-catching color like this does not need too many accessories — so just team it with a nice bag and a pair of fuchsia pink stilettos or flip-flops and you are set for the day with second looks guaranteed! 38 TULIP APRIL 16-30, 2011

hen you discuss fashion, it is important to discuss about the usage of color as well. Color is an important element in a cloth and adds a lot of essence and vibrancy to the attire. In the summer season a lot of emphasis has been given on the color yellow because of its universal appeal. The color has a sense of vibrancy and is a key element for the summer collections. The upcoming fashion will celebrate the effects of colors and the amount of style a color adds to the effects of a wardrobe but the main emphasis will be on the color yellow because the color has a lot to offer and is an apt choice for the hot and sultry weather. The color yellow adds a lot of vibrancy to the clothing sense and the prints that will be on offer will certainly take your breath away. The advantage that the color yellow has over other color is that it has several shades and you can actually choose from the various shades of colors. For those who are willing to experience the breathtaking effects of the color yellow can step into the world of the mesmerizing yellow shades. Yellow in various shapes looks really good and you must look to embrace every opportunity to make sure that you choose the right shade that suits your personality and character. But if you are an adventurous person then this is the opportunity to try out different option as the options available as far as the color variation is concerned is indeed he. So make the right move and select the right option for yourself and dazzle in beautiful yellow hue for the summer. If you are someone with a milder sense of adventure and feel you can’t carry a yellow alone, team up a stylish bright yellow top with a pair of jeans or capris for that striking effect. With most people not being too sure if they can carry off yellow as a whole, accessories are a great way to play with this hot color. With brands all over the world, including our desi ones declaring yellow as the reigning color this season, the fashion scene seems to have been splashed with this warm hue. Known as an experimental color earlier, the conception of it being a loud, bold color seems to have undergone a massive change with celebs flaunting it all over — be it clothes, accessories, shoes, bags or even hair color! The notion that yellow has people grabbing for their glares has done an about turn with designers experimenting with shades of the color, giving us a variety to choose from — right from a cheerful canary yellow, to a soft baby yellow to a delicate lemon yellow, we have finally woken up to this hue in the color spectrum. This ‘fresh’ color, as experts are describing it, has finally woven itself as a great option on the fashion scene. , yellow is a must have in your wardrobe this season — a tote for those office essentials,

a clutch for a social outing or an oversized handbag for shopping. Teaming up your outfit with a yellow bag is a sure shot to instantly brighten up your otherwise neutral look? Another great way to flaunt that fabulous color is on your feet. Yellow shoes are the latest craze the world over, so grab a pair today; also yellow flip-flops are the perfect summer wear. If nothing else, use your imagination to weave that color into your look without it being too obvious, like wrap a baby yellow scarf around you, or clinch a big buckled high waist belt for a great effect! Despite the attitude towards yellow being that of a girlie color, today even men are willing to experiment with it. From yellow tees to pyjamas to bright headbands and glares, guys all around are seen sporting this new. At your work front, keep those trousers basic but yellow looks great as a shirt and a tinge of color on your night out will have the women hovering like bees; or best brighten up your routine look by wearing a spunky yellow tie or replace those white laces on the designer keds with yellow ones! So now that we have ascertained that yellow definitely is the unisex color of the season what are you waiting for? Pick up your wallet and go shopping today; go on and reinvent your fabulous selves with this smokin hot hue! So, dare and wear yellow! This fresh sunny color has finally woven itself as a great option on the fashion scene. APRIL 16-30, 2011 TULIP 39

With fitness now taking a top slot in our lives, working out now is part of that 14- hour routine. Wanting sculpted physiques and ribbed muscles not only for looking our smoldering best but battling various ailments that bombard our generation earlier than before. Gymnasiums, aerobics and walks... how long can one keep pursuing the same activities? Eventually boredom sets in; your body stops responding to the repetitive schedules and the inches stay put. Want a radical change but don’t know what to take up? Well, the fitness world now has re-invented itself to offer you a wide choice by introducing some unique, fun ways to shed that flab. All this and not one drop of sweat! Pick any activity that tweaks your interest and get started now! Take a look at options that help you break the monotony 40 TULIP APRIL 16-30, 2011

Aqua Aerobics Aqua aerobics is a perfect fitness option, mainly because people of all age groups, including children and seniors can give it a try for the negligible strain it poses to the muscles and joints due to the buoyancy that you experience in water. It is non-weight bearing exercise; the water supports most of your weight instead of your feet, hips and legs. And since it is done in waist deep water one doesn’t need to be a swimmer. While aerobics on the ground tends to be a high impact workout, aqua aerobic exercises are easier on the joints and the back, since the water displaces much of your weight (up to 85 per cent, depending on water depth) The natural resistance of the water guarantees that a 45-minute class burns anywhere from 350-600 calories, while the water resistance takes care of muscular toning up.

Indoor Rock Climbing Rock-climbing is a mentally and physically beneficial sport that tests a climber’s strength, endurance, agility, and balance along with his or her mental control. The movement of climbing a height steadily using every muscle of the body takes care of both cardio as well of muscular exercise. But rock climbing and you think the Himalayas or at least a mountain terrain. Hightech equipment that costs a bomb and the risk of that fall for the beginners? Fortunately now rock-climbing lovers have brought the sport indoors, making the climb less steep. Simply pick up all safety gear and head outdoors, if being cooped up in a room doesn’t hold appeal for you.

Spinning Spinning is the latest fitness fad. Intrinsically a group activity, more popular among people who are superbly fit, having reached a top level of fitness, it’s an excellent high

HEALTH

intensity group activity combined with upbeat music to keep the momentum going. One spinning class can make you burn 500-800 calories; way more than another regular high intensity activity – but this is recommended only for pros and not absolute beginners. A spinning class is an excellent weight loss option, because of the energy created by the trainers who closely monitor each participant; the music making it rather fun! Fresher’s; start with a notch lower.

Hula Hoop Dancing This is a terrific form of exercise that’s getting increasingly popular in dance studios around the nation. The fun part of this is that you are learning to hupa loop. You set this music and explore how to dance while hooping. This provides a total body workout that offers a great level of fitness. Additionally this is a form of dance that really encourages a stronger mind body connection which is appealing to many youngsters.

Kickboxing Are you looking for a total body workout that totally kicks butt? How about a way to increase your stamina, flexibility, and strength while listening to your favorite dance mixes? Kickboxing! The word itself speaks volumes about this fresh style of martial arts, which is no-nonsense and sleek style of decimating your enemy. It is a martial art which blends the grace of boxing with the powerful maneuvers of kicking styles. A kick boxing workout routine is a great way of staying in shape and toughening up for life. Bruce Lee chose kickboxing workout routines over other techniques for his own training. Kickboxing is not just for martial arts experts. Any person can benefit from going for a kickboxing workout routine even if he does not intend to compete in actual kickboxing tournaments. APRIL 16-30, 2011 TULIP 41

The World Cup takes an exit and IPL 4 makes a grand entry. All the cricket fans are geared up to enjoy the game again as we have seen a lot of enthusiasm for IPL always in the hearts of the people. Get going people... IPL 4 begins

IPL4...

DHAMAAL! By Saloni Gupta

A

touch of south Indian flavor, a few horns and all support for an unbeatable team… the Deccan Chargers for the IPL4 season comes with the caption “Grows on You”. What grows is definitely the game, the very game that is most predictable by cricketing fans everywhere. The hunting season has begun, and now it comes down to which team will overwhelm the rest. If anyone predicts the winner this season, it’s either a wild guess or an absolute fiction. Each team has its own unique strengths, the will and the commitment to give in their best to entertain the crowds. The season 4 gives us Sahara Pune Warriors and Kochi Tuskers Kerala, two new teams which have joined in the IPL game. Unquestionably, each match in this package of IPL will feature an explosive quest just like the earlier editions. And as a bonus we have the returning roars of the Indian crowds. Ask for anything this season, the game of cricket is ready to deliver. The much-hyped auctioning of the players by the teams was the highlight ofthis season 4 of IPL matches. And we Hyderabadi’s have our very own band of inflexible champions… a team with potential to wipe out any opposition standing its way. The Deccan Chargers are back in action again, like mighty wild beasts speeding up to reach meadow of victory. 42 TULIP APRIL 16-30, 2011

Cricket is all about attack, attack and attack! Every team has a culture of their own. All the players walked down the ramp showcasing their team’s new gear and greeting the city crowds and fans with their words. So it’s clear what to expect this season. The Champions will fight until the very end to defend what is rightfully theirs. The addition of Pune Warriors Kochiteam will make the challenge of beating the Chargers even greater. But that’s not all. The Knight Riders from Kolkata and the Mumbai Indians will be aiming to hit back and overcome the odds. They will struggle their way up the ladderand perhaps giving sleepless nights to the bowlers. What about the Royals, the Super Kings and the Daredevils… how will they deliver their promises tothe fans and what trick do they have up their sleeves to make it big? It’s totally unlikely to name the conqueror right away. In fact we may need to wait until the last minute of the season. The odds alter, ball-by-ball, and it’s certainly going down to the wire. But we Hyderabadi’s have made up our mind. We will back our team and are ready for an exhilarating season of cricket!

It’s got has 6749cc engine with maximum speed of 149mph. This limousine is very high on the style quotient and very heavy for the pockets too this one’s prices at $9, 00,000. But it’s not easy to buy any rolls Royce this one’s same too, u need to be someone special, someone big and that will be decided by the car manufacturers Rolls Royce itself. Maybach stretch limo

L

ike every Maybach, the Maybach 62 S has the genes of its legendary predecessors. It measures an impressive 6.975 millimeters, every one of them a perfect example of technological excellence, traditional craftsmanship and brilliant design. Furthermore, the Maybach 62 harnesses all these qualities to interpret the rich heritage of the brand in a new, highly contemporary paradigm which looks to the future with great self-assurance. This manifests itself in the car’s powerful, athletic character and its deliberately distinctive, harmonious looks. As always, if you want to go your own way, you have to be prepared to leave the beaten track. But people this one’s definitely not worth the price its charging, its priced at almost $10,00,000 which is huge for the specification if you are looking to buy a limo the others are way better.

BENTLEY STRETCH LIMOUSINE

T

he Bentley State Limousine is an official state car created by Bentley for Queen Elizabeth II on the occasion of her Golden Jubilee in 2002.The vehicle’s twin turbocharged, 6.75-litre V8 Engine has been modified from Bentley’s Arnage R version to produce 400 hp (300 kW) and 616 lb•ft (835 N•m) of torque. Maximum speed is 130 mph (210 km/h). The State Limousine is three feet (91.44 cm) longer than a standard Bentley Arnage, 10 inches (254 mm) taller, and six inches (152.4 mm) wider. It is equipped with broad coach doors that open to the rear almost 90 degrees. The car has been given armoured bodywork and glass, a mine-resistant floor, a cabin that can be sealed against a gas attack, and kevlar enforced tires. These security and safety measures raise the car’s weight to almost 4,000 kg (8,800 lb). British textile manufacturer Hield Brothers produced the Lambswool Sateen cloth used for the upholstery of the rear seats. Only two of these vehicles were built, making it even rarer than the Rolls-Royce Phantom IV, of which just 18 were built for royalty and heads of state. So for the price no we cannot give it to you but yes this one is by far very far is the best, the very best Stretch car ever. 50 TULIP APRIL 16-30, 2011

Support Anna Hazare in His Fight Gandhi Is Still Alive we all should Support for Right! I am a student of Public Administration Now I Know the Importance Of “OMBUDSMAN” in Our so called a democratic Country.India has another Gandhi who is fighting for our second war of Independence. Dr. Isan Baburao Hazare popularly known as Anna Hazare has taken up a fast unto death to fight for our rights against the weak Jan Lokpal Bill being implemented. He demands stringent measures for the Jan Lokpal Bill with the members being from the civil society i.e. us as the public and not the government officials who are already corrupt. Some where steps have to be taken. So this is it. We will make the change with the right votes and spread peace political system .It may not make a Full fledge difference but yes definitely government will seek to a Revolution. The strive should not stop here Says Aditi Namburi Public Administration Student from St.francis college Begumpet Jan Lokpal Bill is a bill which would allow people to lodge complaints against government officials and according to the bill the corrupt official will get jail within 2 years and the illwealth accumulated will be confiscated. But here lies the catch in the bill in its present form. The committee will consist of government officials only this is wrong, they want their acquaintances in the committee so that they would be saved. Also the Lokpal cannot investigate the Prime Minister and parliamentarians. Anna Hazare demands dignified people to be there with the clean record on the committee so that a fair decision is taken so there is no more corruption. He also demands that the Prime Minister and other parliamentarians should fall under the Lokpals jurisdiction. He is fighting for democracy. It’s been 60 years since independence and we still aren’t free of corruption. Is this what Gandhi gave his life for a corrupt nation? Government proposals in the Lokpal bill are riddled with flaws. People like Sharad Pawar were on the GOM for the committee who have corruption running in their veins. In the words of Anna Hazare. Sharad Pawar soon quit this position in the GOM but is this answer? What do you think of the proposed

Jan “Lokpal Bill”? Will it curb corruption in India? Here we have Our young Hyderabad’s opinions A hat off to all those honest leaders but it’s kind of difficult to make India a corruption-free nation. But again, as the saying goes...Nothing is Impossible! :) Kudos to Anna jee!. Says Prerana Kulkarni Bill if made an act will hit the people at the top primarily because they are the one who shine in the glare of the civil society.” says Sunny Manghnani It’s all about waking up to reality. And I love to see this spirit in my fellow citizens. Especially the youth”...Says Disha bhandari a Lecturer of Political Science. Today Anna Hazare is ready to put his life on the line for the youth“ for us, so that we live in a corrupt free country with equal rights. In a country where 4 crore people live below the poverty line and half of the politicians bathing in money now is the time to end all of this. We are not progressing as opposed to other nations because of this corruption seed. Why was there a delay of 42 years to remove corruption? It’s a termite eating away the wooden pillars in which our democracy stands. He also made it clear today that it’s a “PEOPLES MOVEMENT”, there wouldn’t be any political intervention. Its time we heard his voice and made it a national uproar. It’s for our future the youth. This movement has already made its impact on the youth as thousands and thousands of youth gather every minute of the day at Jantar Mantar and show their support for Anna Hazare. With the nation struck with scams every hour its time we raise our voices. Corruption in India today has crossed all limits.
