Each One , Plant One !!!

We all know that our planet Earth is warming up and that something needs to be done on a global scale. We can all do our share and contribute to a worldwide effort to save our climate from going crazy. One of the best things a person can do to help our suffering planet is to plant a tree. The tiny tots of HPS Kids, Paradise set a perfect example for the society when they took a big step for a better environment tomorrow with “Plant a Tree Campaign” organized at their campus. Lavina Dixit, Principal of H.P.S Kids, Paradise added ‘ As a Director, I would like to take up this initiative of planting trees so that our young ones groom into better citizens of the nation, and be more contributing towards environment they are going to live in tomorrow. The motto behind this is returning the society what it has given. We have many events in school- Many fun events and a few which have a special reason. Plant a Tree is one of the most special events held because it is very important that kids develop such traits at this tender age. We know kids of this age are like wet sand. They get moulded soon and this is an effort to mould them to be good citizens of our country’.

Independence Day is one of the most auspicious day to all the Indians as it was the day which gave Indians a blissful taste of freedom and everyone has their own views on it as to how they would celebrate this day. Here we have few college students’ who talk about their thoughts and their way of contributing towards Our 67th Independence Day.

Independence Day without a doubt is the most important day of every Indian Citizen. This day brings people joy and brings one and all together. Our Independence Day is rightfully celebrated all across the country with great joy. However, different people would like to celebrate it in a different manner. Well, how am I going to be spending our 67th Independence Day?? The first thing I would do is hoist a flag at my apartment and try to dress up patriotically (by at least sticking the tricolor on the t-shirt). I would try to be as active as I can and hang out with my friends to share this joy and also when at home watch some historic achievements by our country with my family which will be telecasted on the television. All in all there’s no greater joy in celebrating this historic day. I’m proud to be an Indian and I’m proud to celebrate our Independence Day being a citizen of this great country. Jai Hind!! Varun Nair, St. Mary’s College.

20 AUGUST, JULY, 20132013

India celebrates Independence Day on August 15 each year! India became an independent nation on August 25 1947, so a gazetted holiday is held annually to remember this date! It is celebrated by every citizen of India irrespective of caste, creed and religion! It is a day when people in India pay homage to their leaders and those who fought for India’s freedom in the past. The major government buildings are illuminated with strings of lights and the tricolor flutters from homes and buildings. It’s so good to see that each and everyone celebrate this day thoroughly! What I do is, go to my college and hoist the flag with my friends and the college faculty, then we roam around on the streets just to see how the people are celebrating and even we get involved in the celebration! Then we go out for lunch or maybe a movie then back home and spend time with my family go out with them for dinner and watch a movie about India’s freedom fighters which are broadcasted throughout the day on the television! Sometimes I do kite flying because it became a tradition on this day and people can be seen flying numerous kites of all colors, sizes and shapes symbolizing the freedom! LIFESTYLE My grandfather was a freedom fighter, so Independence Day is celebrated like a festival at my place. Though he is not among us today we follow his principles. I still remember his words “we got Independence at the cost of thousands of lives, we should respect the freedom and put our country before everything else”. My family and friends gather to hoist the national flag on our terrace sing national anthem and pin a small national flag of India on our dresses. A man who does not respect his nation is the man who will lose respect from all. Let’s respect our country and enjoy the freedom with a sense of responsibility. Independence Day holds a special place in every Indian’s heart and every year we make it a point to celebrate this day with immense joy. This year I would like to visit an old age home and spend valuable time with our elderly. I will sing songs with them try and organize a small skit on Independence Day for them. I will make sure my friends join me too! Apart from this, I will spend time with my family, watch special programmes and movies of Independence Day special. Lastly I will take this one day and feel proud to be an Indian and pledge to make India a better place to live in! Vatika kaul, Villa Marie college

The word independence always reminds me of my grandfather. He has been a part of the army and I’ve always felt proud every time he told me about his struggle for our country’s independence. The respect in me for my country has only increased, thanks to my family background and atmosphere. And I truly believe that for a country to be independent, what is important is that its people have the liberty and right to live their lives the way they want, the independence to choose what they think is right than what the society considers right. Only when a citizen has the right to choose his own career option, a girl can step out of her house with no fear, individuals can marry the person who they considers compatible, with the blessings of their family. And I think there is still some time when Indians can truly feel independent and not just be called independent! Dev, St. Mary’s College.

An Unbreakable Bond!

A sibling relationship is one of the most special relationships. No matter how old you are, or how many friends you have, the relationship of a brother-sister is irreplaceable. Komal Sirwani, on the eve of Rakhi, brings an insight into brother sister relationships in the city. Brothers, old or young make life extremely special. After your father, they are the perfect men in life who love to fight with sisters but also pamper them the most. The possessive nature of a brother can never really go, whether the brother is younger or elder to the sister. Whether a girl is married or has just started dating, the brother will always try to ensure that she is happy and nothing just can’t change or take this care away from them. It is their right in this special relationship, while the sisters are the mothers, who no matter how much hate their brothers for annoying the hell out of them, will always be waiting at all late nights and cooking on all hungry days. And life is incomplete without this bittersweet relationship that the siblings share. After 3 years of being alone, on 7th November 1992 early morning is when a beautiful angel took birth, my sister Vishwani. A caring, loving, naughty, cute, beautiful and mind boggling sister to have, who has always been there and supported me. We fight, play, teach, learn and can’t live without each other at any moment. There are days when we fight and don’t talk for days, but can’t see each other apart so end up being together as usual. She is the one for whom I can do anything to make her happy. At last I just want to say Ek Hazaron Main Meri Behana Hai.

The one who fights with me the best, but also watches over me the best. The one who has been with me through thick and thin, every step of the way. And when I trip and fall, he’s the first one to laugh at me but also the first to pick me up. The only friend who is with me from birth and until we go to heaven. The one I know I can always count on against all odds. The best man of my life - I love my brother and I love our relationship. I am extremely blessed to have a brother in my life and life is even better with his existence.

I believe the best gift my parents have given me is my brother. Kunal and I share a very magical bond. He is the person who holds my hand in my bad times, who does silly dance moves with me in my happiness. The best part about ‘US’ is our silly fights, where we fight and then laugh out loud in the very same moment. I love being with my bestie, my brother and what I love most is being his “LIL BABIE ELEPHANT” Monika Raichandani, Working professional.

We are four siblings, three sisters and one brother. A Unique combination but yet share a lovely bond. We all have a long generation gap but still we love each other no matter what. It’s only once in a year that we get a chance to meet. We all make the most of this time. We all resemble just enough to make all the differences confusing. Bhaiya is very loving and he has been there to solve all our problems always. He is the one always standing for all of us and makes things right. He is a lovely brother and the relationship that we share is just the greatest thing ever. Sometimes we just don’t need words to communicate to each other. Our paths may change as life goes along, but the bond between us remains ever strong Mehak Khemani, Home maker

Sugar n spice! Tom n jerry! Chip n dale!! These words depict the divergent relation I share with my brother. Fighting all the time yet caring for each other. We laugh, we fight, and we do crazy stuff together. I remember one incident which got me closer to him. There was a time when I was low because of a failure. He noticed that and motivated me to perform well and I did. Not to forget he got me a box of my favorite chocolates to cheer me up instantly. Even after big fights our convergence is inevitable because of the deep bond we share. No matter what it is, I love my brother. I will be my husband’s wife only after my marriage but I’m my brother’s sister for life. Meghna Manglani, Article trainee at Gandhi & Gandhi Chartered Accountants.

A brother - sister relationship is a very unique one and it is rightfully said that the two are parts of the same body like hands and feet. Their areas of interest never meet but they just cannot do without each other. Our relationship when we were young was one of the most competitive relationship, but as we grew up it became the most strongest. Since birth my sister has been my “secret sharer”. I still remember the days when she used to secretly sign my report card so that mom doesn’t get mad at me for my low grades. She was Maa’s favorite and I was so jealous of her. But I actually love the fact that my sister manages to keep spreading love and smiles to the people around no matter what. Every time when I am down she always make sure that she’s around and get my feet back to the ground. It is needless to say that I will always be there for her at every stage of life. She’s married now and so far away but we both know that distance is not going to bring a difference in our relationship. Brother and sister together as friends are ready to face whatever life sends. THE OFFICE GRAPEVINE

Work places can be stifling at times. Is it the work pressure that makes it so, or the ambience or your colleagues around creating the grapevine. Socializing too much with your team mates can either lead to low morale or negativity or it can make you jaunty at work. It can be a bit of love-hate relationship. We asked these workaholics how they deal with such situations in their diurnal life. Socializing gets team members from different team together and they sit like friends rather than mere colleagues. It builds a friendly bond which makes it easier at the work place to coordinate. It also gives them a chance to informally discuss their concern at work thereby offering each other solutions and empathy. The organizations which have higher level of socializing among their staff have lower level of staff attrition. Wherever there are people there are gossips. However, it depends on ones maturity what to believe and what not. Most of the gossips are actually one’s opinion they are trying to pass on to others. It does lead to misunderstanding and grapevine. The best way to avoid it is to check the details yourself and follow your own opinion without putting anybody down. Avoid it to cherish I would say, I know it sounds funny but let’s all agree we do love gossips. Atulya Nidhi, Associate Director – Accommodation, The park, Hyderabad.

According to me socializing at work is as important as my work performance itself. It is imperative to have good people skills to keep the dice rolling and to keep things interesting. A healthy work life calls for a healthy rapport with your colleagues even though you might want to kill them occasionally. It’s all about having fun at work and putting yourself out there to the world. No school teaches you the kind of things you learn when you socialize with people. What I love about my work culture is that it has made me so much more open and tolerant towards different kinds of people. The more people I meet at work the more enriching my experience turns out. And yes I get paid for that. I think gossiping is a very normal part of any work place. If you put few hundreds of people in a building together every single day, there ought to be rumors and gossiping. I would be lying if I’d say that I was never a part of a full blown gossip session. However, there is always a line to draw and be sensible and kind. I never forget to lose sight of my goal and avoid distractions. After all people are just people and nothing great can ever be achieved by talking about them? Great things are achieved by things like hard work and focus. A little bit of chatter and yapping is all good as long as nobody gets hurt and it doesn’t interfere with our bigger goals. Poornima Soni, Tax consultant, Deloitte

My field is a creative field. In our field communication with the fellow employees is very necessary, this helps exchange of ideas. We get to see different perspectives which enhances the quality of the design. Also when we have a hectic schedule, interaction with people in the office lightens the mood and helps us to make work much more fun. Ignorance is bliss. We should be mature enough to let go the petty issues and let it not effect our work. Shiva Prasad, Visual designer, the Businesswalas.

For a part-timer, it wouldn’t make much of a difference, you can just come do your stuff and move out. But for a full-timer like me, I think it’s very important to not only maintain conversational relations, but also good relations with bosses or colleagues. It’s because office becomes the place where you spend most of your hours of the day and it becomes a necessity to indulge in conversing with someone. And even though it may not make much of a difference to you or the people who know you at the work place, it does hamper your image or reputation. And if your work is stressing, then these things just add on to the frustration that’s already built in you. And, if you have people who share the same opinions or have the similar mentality like yours, it’s a complete bonus. You may as well consider sharing friendly relations, more than relations confined to the workplace. Shruti Mathur, News anchor, CVR News

It is really important to maintain great rapport with your colleagues because it helps understand them really well and helps build great relationships with them which is vital for working as a team and perform well. But, the best ways to deal with are just two. Either you choose to ignore & not let it effect you, at all. Or you confront & end it once and for all. This is the best thing for anything that comes your way in life. Either adjust with it & ignore, or just clear it out & live with a peace of mind. Abdul hai Ahmed, User operations, Facebook India

Socializing keeps the work ambiance more lively. People get good feedback which is very supportive during reviews because there exists a lot of competition in office. Gossip becomes a part and parcel of the work atmosphere. It might be due to jealousy or due to politics in the office. At my office, rewards are given based on the performance, so there isn’t much negativity around. Sneha Reddy, Merchant risk investigator, Amazon

Well! Socializing has its own benefits. It helps one build a good rapport with one’s subordinate’s or boss’s. Also, It maybe more of a personality acumen on the basis of being an introvert or an extrovert. Gossiping is a different context. Unlike the profound positivity of socializing, this may have either a positive or a negative impact. Personally, me and my peers always make business related conversations, so I wouldn’t be able to comment on gossiping. Nevertheless, on a casual note, I think the negative aspects of gossiping (if any) would arise by a faulty perception of personalities amongst peers and can be dealt by indulging them in a team activity which would pave way to a better insight of each other’s personality. COVER STORY

Dol ly Gurbani

An Award Winning Jewellery Designer

Born & brought up in Hyderabad, she moved away when she met her life partner Vicky and settled in Jakarta (Indonesia). 12 years since her wedding, she moved back to Hyderabad to give her two beautiful girls an education she found here was best. With time she has evolved as a strong and spiritual individual. Being a follower of Christianity she believes and abides by the power of prayer. She completely believes that where she stands today is nothing but God’s immense grace on her life.

“I have loved jewellery ever since I was a young girl. Even though we all love shopping, jewellery was one thing that always topped my shopping list. I was blessed with parents who thought, I was buying an asset every time I bought a piece of jewellery and so they never refused me for it, which led my further interest in it. With time jewellery became more of a passion and I would go looking around places to find something that was different and unique, be it holidays or exhibits or international fairs I tried to go around and look for something new every time. It helped me find something new and also widened my knowledge of availability of different things at different places. I am mother of two girls and they are the angels in my life. They kept me busy for few years but as they grew up I realised that I had a lot of spare time at hand which enforced me to keeping myself busy by doing something that I liked and what would be better than jewellery designing. While the girls were still small, I would do it on a pass time basis, during their school hours and as they got busy with their routine I decided to keep myself busy by dedicating more time to design jewellery. Slowly I indulged into having exhibitions and as I started getting recognition. Even after so many years I can still freshly remember my first design. It was 17 years ago when I walked into a jewellery store, and browsed through a catalogue where a ring caught my attention. It had 2 marquis shaped diamonds and what fascinated me was the shape of diamond because I had never seen much other than the usual round diamonds. Looking at that I approached the jeweller and asked him if he could make something using such diamonds, and when he said he would try, I gave him the design that came to my mind at that time. He made it for me and it indeed looked very different and unique. When I wore it, I was complimented a lot and it lead to a lot of motivation confidence that I can even design something that comes to my mind. A Little did I know where I was heading to when I was approached by The Planman Media to be awarded as the Rising Star, as a jewellery designer. I wasn’t even sure whether I wanted to be a part of it because it was happening in Las Vegas and I am not someone who enjoys long distant travelling. But when I got there, it was indeed very prestigious to be among the top Indian business leaders and especially among the very few women present out there. It was an honour to be standing on an international platform where the entire group of winners represented India’s success. It has always been a dream to do something abroad. Setting up a boutique in Dubai would be my next expansion. Of course I want to go about having exhibitions in different parts of India like Bangalore, Vijaywada, Vizag, Chennai and lots more. By Gods grace I am happy that people love what Diyaash offers”. She has come a long way since she first started she learnt, experienced and reached where she is today. But still she takes it as a beginning of her journey and keeps a passion to go a long way. Today she has become an inspiration for all those women, who want to take up a career, balance home & social life and also have a spiritual peace of mind. 30 AUGUST, 2013

SPECIAL

Our readers helped us jot down the most visited places for the most yummy delicacies in town, during the month long celebration! Sarvi Paradise hotel Shah ghouse Shadab Sohail hotel Pista house 555 4 seasons Café Bahar

Ramzan is that time of the the year i.e. filled with growling stomachs, cranky Muslims and the most tiresome Tarawih prayers. It is the holiest month of the Islamic calendar. There's just something in the air about Ramzan that gets us excited. And with festive comes shopping. Shopping during Ramzan is incomplete without a visit to charminar, the one stop shop especially for women. From clothes to bangles, jewellery to pure choice of ittar, it’s a hub for everything, not to forget the delicacies available in evenings! Grapevine has it that the traders make a killing earning during Ramzan that is almost equal to the entire year of earning. The hardest thing of course is resisting the temptation of any type of food you may happen to come across during your fast. Once you've fasted the full day, broke your fast with a date prayed Maghrib and finally sit down with your over piled plate of the most delicious looking food and a bowl of haleem, we always tell our self, we won’t eat that much ever again, but the same is followed the next day and other, till the month end. Ramzan is that time of the year where we find ourselves lost in prayer and devotion making duas for ourselves and our loved ones. Let’s be sure to make the most of each and every minute of this holy month. Ruqayya ahmed Student, St Francis College for Women

Food and Food!!

“There is a lot of hustle going around the city. It’s like the silence before a storm. Very soon the roads are going to witness a sea of people around the city. The faithful are awaiting the sighting of the moon to begin fasting. Shops have renewed their stocks and awaiting customers. People are awaiting their paychecks. Foodies are awaiting haleem, the traditional flavour of Hyderabadi evenings. Brightly illuminated hotel fronts, buzz of a gathering, clanking spoons and a rejuvenating haleem disappearing in minutes from bowls is a common sight at almost every corner of the city. People do not hesitate to travel from one end of the city to other to try different outlets around the city. Even the parcel service at most places has become popular and at times, those manning the counters can be seen struggling to manage the orders of packing and delivering. Pista House,Shah Ghouse,Shaadab, Niagara and Paradise are some of the haleem spots which make a whooping business during ramadan. Clusters of eateries at Punjagutta, Nampally, Madina and other places too have a good daily evening clientele that stretch till late hours. The rich get an opportunity to earn good deeds while the poor get their needs fulfilled. Last but not the least, the amazing Night-outs. Between the long fasting days and the pleasant weather of late nights, staying out until the wee hours of the morning is not an uncommon activity in the Ramadan. I spend most nights out during Ramadan. Every night, my friends and I go to restaurant to have the pre-dawn meal before the start of the day-long fast. I wish all my readers a very happy and blessed Ramadan. Ramadan Kareem to all. :) “ Faisal Ahmed, Tapasya Academy AUGUST, 2013 33

SPECIAL It all begins after 12 in the mid -night, every street of this wonderful city gets enlightened. Almost every corner of lad bazaar is flooded with pedestrians. The night begins with calling friends to my place, getting all decked up for this auspicious event by wearing a pathani suit, a pair of mojri’s and applying surma in the eyes. With this we are all set to venture across the streets of Hyderabad. Ramzan does not mean going to a five or a seven star restaurant. Its essence lies in the stalls one finds on the streets. The delicious smell of kebab’s, tandoori chicken, dahi wada and of course season favorite haleem is no doubt mouth watering. While we try out most of the stalls and restaurants with special dishes made for this month my all time favorites are - 4 seasons, AlArabia, BBQ nation, Kebab factory and Shawarma at Tolichowki food court. After feasting on such wonderful delicacies and strolling around every joint and junction of charminar, it is time to prepare for Sehri. Sehri usually consists of lighter food like osmania biscuits, maska bun, irani tea, fruits and gallons of water. Hadi Ali, Student - Muffakham Jah College

Having lived in the City of Nawabs for 18 years of my life, I take Pride in calling myself a Hyderbadi. Hyderabad - rich in its history, culture and food becomes all the more charming during the month of Ramdan (called Ramzan in India). Ramzan is considered to be the month when the gates of heaven are open and Satan is chained. It is the month, where people feel closer to the almighty and follow certain religious principles .In spite of Ramzan being the holy festival of Muslims, in the diverse culture of the city, Hindus and Muslims wait for and celebrate this festival with the same joy and enthusiasm. Shopping by the labyrinth, colorful bazaars of the Charminar to the much awaited sight of the “Eid ka chand” - Ramzan truly lights up and brings out the beauty of the city. At dusk, after the blaring siren of Iftar, the arrow streets are abuzz with vendors, buyers and food lovers. Ramzan reveals Hyderabad’s excellent culinary with the spicy Haleem and the delicious and world famous Hyderbadi Biryani that awaits the eager food buffs. My friends and I, endlessly yearn for “just some more” Biryani and ‘Iftar parties’ hosted in evenings. The best thing about Ramzan apart from the delicacies is the galore and glitz of the night. This is the time when I enjoy having a night walk in the old city where people come out in large numbers to celebrate. Watching the lights shine off the jewellery and bangles is a beautiful sight. All in all, Ramzan is an auspicious time that showers immense happiness and teaches patience and kindness to humanity. Shreya Bahirat, Student, Villa Marie College

34 AUGUST, 2013

The month of Ramzan signifies resistance to hunger and thirst for the Muslims who practice salvation and abstain from eating or drinking. It all begins with lights and stalls across the flurry streets of charminar and people thriving on various delicacies such as the famous hyderbadi Biryani and sheer khorma. The vivacious ambience is enthralling with mouth watering food enriched with a tinge of culture. The glitter, the mirror, and the color which exudes richness and royalty are artistically displayed lavishly in the bazaars of Hyderabad. Hyderabadi’s shop all over the city where all the stores are open till late in night, especially stores like Meena bazaar, Neerus, Kashish for women, Mebaaz and Manyavar for men. Besides this, some folks also prefer to make their attire a symbol of grandeur and go for the top designers like Sabyasachi, Rocky S and Kimaya, while some others stick to local designer boutiques like Admire, Neha’s boutique. I thank Ramzan is for cleansing my soul and letting me emerge as a better human being each year! Feroze Jahan, Villa Marie College I think Hyderabad is one city where everyone has some takeaway from each festival whether it’s the bright lights, colors, kites or carols. This month being Ramzan it would mean get together where I get to sample my favorite of the season..Haleem! Though there’s nothing like home made authentic food and Iftar parties. My friends and I make it a point to visit/takeaway from all the popular joints like Pista House, Bahar, Shah Ghouse etc. Apart from the food another once a year experience has to be a stroll down the shopping locality of Charminar, where class and caste don’t matter. The great discounts and variety of fine workmanship is what pulls my girl gang here to experience the hustle and heart of a bazaar that also represents the warmth and fervour of a “pakka Hyderbadi” Chalin, Facebook Employee

Solving Men have been a mystery to women since the day of their existence. What they think, how they react, and what they do suddenly, are all a mystery, assuming leads to more problems, because they is more of practical creatures who think less and act more. Men take women seriously except when they talk about their “feelings” or the “relationships.” At those times, men go to that place in their brains where there are Saturday morning cartoons on. When women talk about “connecting”, men are mentally pouring themselves a Red bull and settling down for an action movie.

Men And Ttheir Superiority Complex Overrated Or Fact?

I think it’s both fact and an overrated thing of the whole superiority complex. Everyone be it men or women have the whole thing in the back of their head of being superior in anything. Be it work, relationship, or with siblings, the role we play seems to give an image of being superior and overrated. But, that’s rubbish. Being superior makes one feel wise, one can be wise if he or she is wise. Hence, my take is simple, one shouldn’t attempt on being superior but one should just be themselves, do their act and superiority comes onto you by time which suits a man just right. Men and women both have superiority complex but we men at times over do it, in your words overrate it hence we make a fool out of ourselves and by being responsible we sound as having a superiority complex!! Dhruv Kapur, Business man

Are Men Emotionally Blind?

Men are highly emotional when it comes to relationships, family, love and even their pets. Very commonly seen examples are father and daughter bond, a man with his pet, and his friends. People usually assume men to be emotionally blind because they think more through their mind. Women on other hand get emotionally attached to the situation or the person. Men are more of practical thinkers whereas women are emotionally driven to the situation. It is important to be both practical and emotional to different situations, hence a man is said to be incomplete unless he finds a suitable partner. So, assuming that Men are emotionally blind is not true, we men are highly emotional fools and sensitive towards issues and people who matter to us. At the same time we are practical thinkers and use our mind more than our heart. This has led to the assumption that we are emotionally blind, deaf and dumb. Ayush Agarwal, Analyst at investment Bank

Two Most common misunderstanding between men and women? •

Men answer when women want them to listen: We men are biologically programmed to offer solutions and tackle problems. It’s the DNA so can’t help it. Women on the other part when have problems expect us to listen and give it a deep understanding but they are not worried about the solutions what we give. When we tend to offer solution without listening that’s when things go hay wire.

Men think about box, women think about a closet: Men usually have compartmentalized thoughts and this is most likely seen in their real time decision making style as well. On the other hand Women have the big picture and that’s when the fight begins. Siddartha Rayapudi, Manager Sales and Marketing

Mystery M!!!

SPECIAL

Though with lot of surveys it has also been revealed of men’s greatest fears that include: their partner leaving them, failure, having too many feelings, being thought of as feminine, having a small wiener, being ridiculed, balding, being poor, running out of beer and cheese. So to understand more we have few city men telling, all about, Why’s and Why not’s!!

Men and their Let go attitude!

It’s true that men have laid back attitude. All guys, just like all women are dissimilar. Just like different women want different things, men do too. Some men are calm, cool and more relaxed than others. It impresses people. Some men believe, it’s a practical approach towards life, to live as it comes rather than creating a fuss over every minute detail of how, when and where. They don’t sit and wait for things to happen, they take charge and do it themselves when situation requires. Harish Temker, Model

Men and their commitment issues.

A man is equally or even more sensitive than a woman. But a man’s practical reaction towards situations or realistic decision on some situation makes us look like an unsentimental fool. A true man is always known for his commitment and for the ability to stick to it. A man basically is not scared of commitment but scared of being stuck with a wrong person. A man is always scared of breaking hearts which includes his heart first than the others. Aarav Varma, Assistant Director

Why Men are not open about their feeling?? Are they ever nervous?

It’s a global fact that showing emotion doesn’t come too easy to men as it does to women. Guess it’s all a result of the upbringing process that men are put through when they are constantly told that “Big boys don’t cry” “Don’t be a baby” “Man up!” So men are reminded of these facts every time the slightest bit of emotion is about to escape. But of lately it’s a whole different ball game and men are known to be responsive and do believe in showing their emotions through their actions. Although both men and women cry, rejoice, outrage, shout but they just express their emotions differently. Emotions live in the background of a man’s life and it’s just the way evolution designed us I guess. Most men get nervous about different aspects in their lives. Difference is how they handle it or show it. It’s all a product of expectations from an individual; therefore the level of nervousness is directly proportional to the level of expectations from a person. FRIENDS & Their

SPECIAL

EVER LASTING BOND!

You can always tell a real friend- when you’ve made a fool of yourself, about the secret crush, a budding problem, they will never judge you, well that’s what friends are for-accepting you the way you are. It is the only relation which is flexible, most easily solved and most loved!

“Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: “What! You too? I thought I was the only one.” C.S. Lewis My closest friend is Anagha Datar. We’ve known each other since we were about 4 years old when we met at school. Although, we did lose touch for a while when I changed schools, when we met again, it felt like no time had gone by at all. I can be myself when I’m with her and tell her absolutely anything, knowing that she won’t judge me, or try to preach but listen, understand and help me in any way she can. She’s like a sister to me, and even when we were in school together, we used to tell people we were cousins (and they believed us because we both speak Marathi!). We’ve seen each other through a lot of things, whether it’s difficulty at work, college, or random fights at home with siblings. Nidhi Balasubramaniam, Specialist, UO at Facebook

Ashna and I have known each other for around 8 years now. We didn’t get along much when we were classmates in the 8th grade and we kept fighting over the silliest things. Ironically we started bonding after we left school. We have an amazing set of friends but she will always be special to me. She has always been there for me, to advice me, cheer me up or talk to me when I needed to get through a tough time. She is the most cheerful person I have ever known and it just takes Ashna a minute to cheer up everyone, that’s how she is. Ashna and I have a very special relationship that has grown over the years and I hope it remains the same forever. Over the years she has also become my movie buddy, we watch every movie together. Both of us rely on each other more than we know it and we would be really out of place if one of us wasn’t around.

We don’t always agree on everything but I’m glad that Ashna is my best friend and it makes me feel happy and safe that she’ll always be there for me and I for her.

Trush I and are friends from almost 5 years now. I was introduced to her after my marriage, we met at a common friend’s party and we instantly clicked. What is more exciting is, that our husbands Siddharth Badruka & Ashwin Tibrewala bound well too, so that added to our closeness as couples too. We both are fun loving, enjoy meeting people, hangout for coffees, go out for lunches & dinners, partying or just hang out at each other’s house casually for green tea in the middle of the night too . We both love each other’s company, there is immense trust and understanding between us which makes it a thick bond. We are there for each other in good and bad times, we are there to support each other, correct when anyone of us goes wrong and most importantly, love and respect each other and give right space which is very important in any relationship. She is my bestest friend with whom I can share anything under the sun. Aarti Badruka, Owner Orange Feathers New friends may be poems, but old friends are alphabets. Do not forget the alphabets, because you will need them to read the poems-These are eminent words by William Shakespeare. Going back to the seventh grade, when I was thirteen, I met my best friend Jizlan Wahid, a very affectionate and approachable person, with a lovely nature as well as a good sense of humour. We were in the same boarding school till the tenth grade. As time went by, we were taken apart by our ambitions. But our close friendship kept us in touch. We rejoiced everything in life, shared our happiness, sorrow and feelings with each other. He is my unsurpassed best friend who is never tired of listening to my pointless dramas over and over again. Our friendship did exist, still exists and will continue to exist in the coming unknown, fearful future. Owais Patni, Partner at Batco carriers. I have a lot of close friends but when you say best friend the first person who comes to my mind is Mahima. We’ve been friends for over 13 years now. Since I am studying in a different country, we haven’t been in the same place for 4 years now and the distance hardly seems to make a difference. For me she has been the strongest pillar of strength. Of course we’ve had our share of ups and downs but in the end we’ve always had each other’s back. As we grow up we all realize friendship isn’t about meeting everyday or talking all the time. It’s about respecting each other and being there in good and bad times. This is the kinda relation we’ve shared since years and I’m sure even 13 or even 40 years down the line she will have my back like nobody else. Sonam Singh Nagpal, Student Bachelors of business

FASHION

Someone rightly said - “Clothing without accessories is like a party without cake!” Aura is my personal fashion venture and through this I bring to the market a unique collection of accessories for women that are delicately hand-picked by me. Fashion reveals a lot about a person’s inner feelings. Be it minimalistic or dressing up for the Oscars, accessories make or break a look. Keeping the international fashion trends in mind, I pick out exclusive pieces that are one of a kind & dazzling at the same time. The accessories range from statement necklaces, long sweater chains with cute pendants, earrings to finger rings. With women from every age group becoming fashion savvy, our collections are aimed at the wide age group of 16 to 40. I have always been complimented for my dressing style and fashion sense, especially on the accessories I wear. Sometime, after graduating last year, the idea of starting a fashion venture for accessories came to me and I finally started AURA in January 2013. The response and support of clients, friends and family is extremely heart-warming and motivating. Statement necklaces are a big rage these days and we have a wide selection in them. For women who prefer simpler necklaces, we have long chains with cute pendants of bows, keys, hearts, animals etc. In the near future, I aim to start my own fashion blog. The price range is extremely affordable and structured especially for college students. With social media becoming an integral part of everybody’s daily routine these days, our online business is the best way to reach to an extensive range of customers. 1 Divide your hair into two large sections and comb them properly if you want a neat fishtail braid. Leave it messy for an even more perfect look. 2 Pull out a thin strand from the first section and pass it on to the second section. Like cross stranding. The skinnier your strand is, the better your fishtail is going to look. 3 Pull out a thin strand from the second section and mix it with the first section. Do it just how you did it before. 4 Repeat the steps till you reach to the very end of it. 5 Once done, you can tie your hair with pretty satin bands and give it a perfect ending. You can also bump your hair up and then continue with the fishtail braids. It looks awesome either ways.

Romantic UPDO! This romantic up do looks elegant, but won’t take years of training in beauty school to achieve. Learn how to make an updo that will turn heads wherever you go. 1. First, apply a heat taming spray to damp hair and blow-dry your hair straight with a paddle brush. 2. Next, create a side part and begin twisting the front of your hair from the side-part all the way to your ear. Make sure to twist in the direction that’s away from your face, and let loose strands fall naturally. 3. Repeat on the other side of your hair. 4. Then, once you’re done twisting both sides, secure with hair pins. 5. Finally, gather the rest of your hair back into a loose, messy bun and pin pieces as necessary.

With an elaborate fairy tale wedding comes a witty and naughty bachelorette party. Every girl wants to have her share of fun before getting married by spending the last few hours of her singlehood with her best friends having some quality girl time. Though we commonly hear about the infamous bachelor parties these days especially with blockbusters like Hangover I & II hitting the movie theaters, bachelorette parties should never be underestimated. Girls may not wind up in mysterious parts of Bangkok or on roofs of Las Vegas but they sure do know how My sister got married in January this year she has gone away to Mumbai. Just before she got married I wanted to gift her some of the most beautiful memories before she left the town. So I organized a small bachelorette bash for my sister in which I invited just her best friends as I wanted the atmosphere to be warm and wanted her to spend the last few hours before getting married with just the ones who meant something and were very special to her. We had organized some really witty and funny games. We let our hair down that evening and had a great amount of fun. An evening which added some more special memories to our sisterhood. to have their share of fun. A bachelorette party has always been a tradition in the west and is soon catching up in India as well. It is said if a wedding reception is in the honor of the newly married couple, a bachelorette party is the oc-

Wedding I have organized several bachelorette parties and more than the bride throwing it, it’s the bride’s best friends who throw the party for her as a token of gratitude and love for the bride. Instead of giving something materialist they want to throw in a big party for the bride so that she can add in some more beautiful memories to her life before marriage. These days some of the themes apart from the regular princess theme are – The No Man Land, as the name suggests it’s a party where no men are allowed so girls can have their share of fun without getting cautious at all, the masquerade theme, the Hawaiian theme, which is usually done at a pool side, The Casino theme and the most popular of all the vampire diaries theme. I organize everything from the food, to the décor, to the games, to getting the tiara, sash, party props to also getting the return gift. Roshni Ahuja, RA Events

casion to toast the bride-to-be. A bachelorette is when the bride’s best friend and sisters get together and throw a party for the to be bride and make her feel special before she turn from Miss to Mrs.

Mantra

So, all you best friends and sisters out there before you have a chance to ruin your mascara with the tears you’ll shed on the ‘bidaai’ let your hair sprayed dos’ down for last ladies night in the honor of the bride to be. Here is a guide to organize an amazing bachelorette party for your best friend before she ties the knot. The first thing you will need to decide is how you want the bachelorette to be- a small casual get together with just the closest friends, an extravagant bridal shower with all the girl pals of the bride or you can take a step beyond and plan a destination bachelorette where only the close friends of the bride to be take a trip before the big day.

If you are planning an in city bachelorette bash you need to pick a date first for the party. Typically a bachelorette is held a week or two before the wedding. The person in charge of the guest list must be the closest to the bride, so that she can invite all the friends of the bride and make sure she doesn’t miss out on any of the bride’s important contacts. Secondly the theme of the party is very important and make sure that every attendee is dressed according to the theme. For example if the theme is ‘Pretty Pink’ it would require everyone to dress in pink, wear on pink lipstick and also all the drinks and food served should be pink. If you don’t want to stick to the regular pink theme you can opt for the black and white theme or the classy theme where girls can dress up Audrey Hepburns and CoCo Chanel’s. You can also opt for the disco theme and add in all the neon color, sparkles and bling to this one.

Weddings have always been a big part of my family. I stay in a joint family and we are 10 sisters. Along with weddings comes the bachelorette- that one day of fun with the girls before getting married. We have always had extravagant bridal showers and bachelorettes before any of my sister’s wedding where all the close friends and all the young women of the family are invited. Each time the theme of the bachelorette has been different but we have always tried and kept the décor pink and very girly. We have always had great fun playing some witty girly games, thrown extravagant lunch parties and sometime have let our hair down and partied all night. Bachelorettes I feel are very important as I feel it is that one day when all the close friends and family of the bride to be can make her feel special and truly like a princess. Nisha Vijaywargi, Teaching at Birla Toddlers

You can begin the evening with dinner and gift opening and then start off with the wicked and witty bachelorette games. You can also organize a great Dj and one amazing looking bar tender who serves all the drinks to women present at the party. You can also make a list of random activities that the bride can do before getting married which she won’t be able to do once she ties the knot. If you don’t want to opt for a regular bridal bash the bride to be and the best friends take off the weekend at a spa and resort. Where you can spend time in getting the bride to be pampered and spend the entire weekend chilling and enjoying luncheons and bonfire dinners. No matter how you want to throw the party make sure that all the attention is on the bride to be. Make her feel special, surprise her and show her how important she is to you. Give her that one night of amazing fun in her last few days as a single lady. Every girl dreams of having a fairy tale wedding and so did I. Before moving on to a new phase of life you must really have that “one last night” with your girls. Yes! That one last night of all the girly masti, gupshup, getting high on music and a loud party leading to an extravagant night of fun. I too had my bachelorette bash before I turned into MRS. It was among the best twenty for hours of my life. The bachelorette was planned by my sister and my best friends. We have a Villa at one of the resort in the outskirts of the city and my friends and sisters got an access to it. They had different sessions planned. It began with a luncheon after which they organized a party which was filled with witty and girly games. Everything from the décor to the games and cake was in sync with the bachelorette theme. They organized a bonfire at night along with some great music. The next morning there was another bridal shower, a pool party with tiaras and sashes. In the evening we went to the Shameerpet Lake and had an exclusive photo shoot. My friends and sister truly made me feel special. Radhika Vijay Sarda, Housewife

Unexplored Destinations

Tired of visiting the same places, been to Thailand, Europe, America, Dubai, Singapore and all other common places around the world, TULIP brings you three beautiful and unexplored destinations from the Globe which are a must visit-Sicily, Egypt and Kenya- Rwanda. EGYPT

The land that gave birth to the first great civilization needs little introduction. The pyramids, the minarets, The Nile- the scope of Egypt is magnificent traveling to Egypt, discovering the stark desert beauty of the country and home for centuries to the monumental legacies left

squares, good coffee and French pastries, it has a faded charm that few visitors can resist. Arranged around bays that are currently revealing all kinds of sunken treasure, Alexandria is an easy city to explore and is mercifully free from touts. The Red Sea area bares some of the most exquisite tourist areas on earth. When traveling to the Red Sea you must visit; Sharm El-Sheikh ; which has been awarded as the City of peace. Sharm El-Sheikh, is also considered to be the most extraordinary diving destination, not only in the Red Sea, but also, worldwide. Egypt is filled with amazing seafood restaurants that some serve of the most delicious fish delicacies. Dishes you must try here are the Ful Medames, Falafel and Koshary. Falafel and koshary are an excellent choice for vegetarians. One must also not miss on the exotic fruits available at Egypt. The best time to travel to Egypt is from November to March.

Kenya and Rwanda

Kenya is the Africa you always dreamed of. This is a land of vast savannahs, immense herds of wildlife and peoples with proud traditions on the soil where the human race was born. Kenya in microcosm would behind by the great pharos is an absolute bliss. Cairo is characterized by its ancient Pharoanic monuments, Islamic mosques, Christian churches, and Jewish synagogues. If you want to see modern Cairo, try walking in the streets of Zamalek, Maadi, Mohandiseen, or Heliopolis where you will see some of the more modern buildings and get to experience the way of life in Egypt. If you enjoy nightlife, there are quite a few nightclubs and discos where you can drink and dance to some of the most modern tunes in the west as well as listen to some Arabic music. For other adventures, try going to the Haram District of Cairo, and look for any horse-riding stables. There, you can rent a horse for a few hours and ride, or even ride a camel out in the desert by the pyramids and the Sphinx. When at Egypt try rending out a Feluca boat (small boat that can carry up to 20 individuals) in the Nile of Cairo. Another great place to visit in Egypt is Alexandria, with its belle époque buildings and grand I went on a nine 9 day trip to Egypt in a group of 25 ladies. It was definitely among one of my best tours so far. We landed at Cairo, which is the capital of Egypt. At Cairo we visited the three great pyramids –the Pyramids of Giza, and Sphinx , the temples and pyramids of Saqqara and Dahshur. We were also taken on The Nile cruise and we stayed in the cruise for 2 days, traveling in the cruise was a terrific experience as The River Nile has desert on both its side. The cruise which began at Cairo ended at Alexandria and another beautiful part of Egypt, Alexandria being the place where Cleopatra ruled .One of the best part about the tour was the Hot Air Balloon ride at Luxor. From there we got back to Cairo and on the last day just before leaving we made a visit to the sound and light show, this show was absolutely spectacular and mind blowing. Ending the trip with the show was just perfect; it was like the cherry on the cake. Vani Sudam, Socialite 52 AUGUST, 2013

not be stretching the point. There are a million different reasons to come here, and picking just one is impossible. Stunning landscapes set the scene, from Kakamega’s rainforests to Indian Ocean beaches by way of Mt Kenya National Park; the rolling grasslands of the Masai Mara to searing deserts on the shores of the Jade Sea; with The Rift Valley, home to Hell's Gate National Park, cleaving a massive gash through it all. Wildlife safaris have been the mainstay of Kenya’s tourism for decades, and several Kenyan parks, like Tsavo National Park, are among the best places in Africa to see lions, elephants, leopards and the famous wild beast migration. Kenya rates as one of the top five bird-watching destinations in the world; other activities for outdoor enthusiasts include trekking the glacial ridges of Mt Kenya, ballooning over the Masai Mara, snorkeling at the Marine National Park in Malindi on the Indian Ocean coast, and much more Kenya's biggest city, Nairobi, with the baddest of reputations, is sidestepped by many visitors, but, in fairness, has an interesting urban appeal with its cafes and nightlife. When at Kenya you must visit the Masai Mara sanctuary. It’s considered as the biggest in the world. At Masai Mara you get to see the wildlife and natural environment, in addition to the culture of the local Masai people. The people, too, represent a wide cross-section of everything that is contemporary Africa, and everyday life brings together traditional tribes and urban families; ancient customs and modern sensibilities.

I got a really amazing opportunity to visit Kenya and Rwanda through my company meet. Nairobi, the capital of Kenya is a lovely place to visit. The best part about Kenya was visiting Masai Mara , which is the largest Sanctuary in the world. We got to visit the sanctuary in an open vehicle and spotted thousands of wild animals- Zebra, Wild bores, Wild Elephants, Giraffes, Hippos, Rhinos and also Cheetahs all just 20 feet away from our vehicle. Lake Nakuru a little away from Nairobi is a picturesque place and a must visit for all tourists. Rwanda another small country away from Kenya is another extremely beautiful place. Kigali the capital of Rwanda has the volcano National Park, famous for its Golden and Silver-backed Gorillas which are rare and only present in Rwanda. To reach them we had to trek for almost 3 hours and could see them live in their natural habitats. One of the best experience of mine at Africa was to visit a local African village, where we got to eat the local food , live like the locals, wear the local jewellery and join them while dancing. Revathi Susaral, Doctor (2nd from right in the pic). Virunga volcanoes in the far Northwestern Rwanda. In Parc National Des Volcans, the volcanoes form a natural frontier with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda, hidden among the bamboo and dense jungle of their forbidding slopes are some of the world’s last remaining mountain gorillas. It is the opportunity to encounter these contemplative creatures at close quarters that continues to draw visitors to Rwanda. There’s more to Rwanda than magical mountain gorillas, however. The shores of Lake Kivu conceal some of the best inland beaches on the continent. Deep in the southwest, Parc National Nyungwe Forest is the most extensive mountain rainforest in the region, and home to many primates. But it’s not all monkey business – Kigali is safe and sophisticated. Many visitors are unsure about travelling to Rwanda given its history. However, as long as security and stability persist, Rwanda is a refreshing country in which to travel, where tourists remain a relative novelty and the rewards of the present outweigh the risks of the past. Best time to travel is from June to September and make sure to take all the vaccines required for the Visa to Kenya and Rwanda.

Sicily

Sicily rugged and attractive is an island on the southern tip of Italy, and is one of the country's 20 regions. In Sicily it seems as though the sun shines brighter, the shadows are darker, and life is lived full on and for the moment. Overloaded with art treasures, undersupplied with infrastructure and continuously struggling to thwart Mafia-driven corruption, Sicily possesses some baffling social topography. Brace yourself to reconcile baroque architectural beauty in Catania with modern squalor in Palermo, artistic excellence with moral ambivalence and the rational with the sensual. This is an island to be visited with an open mind – and a healthy appetite; one factor remains constant, and that is the uncompromisingly high quality of the cuisine. When at Sicily do not miss out on the trekking. There are some wonderful treks you can do to enjoy the beauty of main Sicilian sites like the Etna Volcanoes and Madonie Mountains. After some 25 centuries of foreign domination, Sicilians are heir to an impressive cultural legacy, from the

Traveling has always been my passion. My family and I have always loved exploring new destinations. Sicily was one among these destinations which I have explored. There is more to Sicily or Shichila as the locals call it, than the mafia. They consider themselves far superior to the rest of the Italians. Their food and drink far surpasses that of mainland Italy. One must try the limoncello and canoli, when at Sicily they are absolutely delicious. Located in the heart of the Mediterranean it has been colonized by various civilizations. It is a very picturesque island dotted with Greek and Roman ruins in Syracuse, Agrigento, Selinunte –the very often against a background of the blue sea. It’s also a home to Europe’s fiercest volcano, Mount Etna, which is often inaccessible due to unfavorable weather conditions. Palermo the capital of Sicily is a convenient overnight journey by sea to Naples. It is a very rich cauldron of various civilizations –Phoenician, Roman, Byzantine, Moorish, catholic Christian- with its beautiful palaces and churches, all adding to the splendor of this city. Shilpa Mehta, Art Historian treasures and national parks. Sicily also has a refreshing lack of neonblazing entertainment and theme parks, which further helps preserve its individuality and appeal. Making the most of its island coasts, Sicily has one of the world's best cuisines to offer. Much of the island's food is made with creatures of the sea. Unlike in the northern parts of Italy, cream and butter are hardly used for typical dishes in Sicily. The food is typically Mediterranean with hints of Arabic and Spanish flavors. The best time to visit Sicily is during spring and autumn.

We have been following the same with our children till date.”

Honda Fury Vt1300CX

The Honda VT1300CX is a chopper that’s visually daring and great fun to ride; yet with the same functionality, quality and reliability you would expect from any Honda. Its clean lines, curves and an extreme attention to detail has created a chopper with a distinct air of a full-on customized hand built bike that can be owned and maintained for fraction of the cost. Ultimate performance by 1312 cc liquid cooled V-twin engine and distinct chopper identity, minimalistic styling and high comfort are some of the key features of the Honda. Honda has kept it simple yet this bike looks like a gem. This bike is certainly one of its kinds in India. Fury has chrome finished inclined telescopic forks which connect to its multi-spoke silver finished alloy wheel at its front. This bike has been heavily chromed as its headlight surrounding, rear view mirrors, instrument console and hand levers get chrome finishing around them. Fury has a small circular headlight which forms the naked face of this bike as it has no visor and cowl. The front fender of this bike is very simple and covers most of the part of its front wheel. Move to the side of this bike and you will notice two pipes of its body frame which carry its chromed V-twin engine. The bike looks very bulky due to the mega size of its engine. Just above this engine, Fury features an elongated fuel tank which merges down with the rider seat. This seat has been positioned very low with front set foot pegs. The twin fatty silencers of this bike add maturity to it. These elongated pipes are chrome finished and improve the side stance of this bike. Its rear angular cowl is similar to other cruiser bikes and comes with a spilt-seat for the pillion rider. The rear cowl also houses a stylish LED tail light which is supported by orange colored side indicators which makes this bike look like an attention seeker with a very broad rear tyre. B O L LY W O O D Priyanka faces flak for aping Britney, Katy Perry and JLo

Priyanka Chopra is drawing flak from online fashion police and the bloggeratti for “aping” Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez and Katy Perry for the outfit she has worn in her latest single released, featuring Pitbull. In the song, she sports a sparkly nude-colored sequined dress. Various pop divas have worn similar outfits over the years. It began with Britney Spears (clearly, the trendsetter), who made the look iconic with the jaw-droppingly risqué ensemble; through her 2004 hit Toxic’s music video. Katy Perry shimmered similarly on the red carpet at a movie awards night in 2010. Next up, Jennifer Lopez clad in a nude bodysuit encrusted with strategically placed crystals, set temperatures racing during her performance at a music awards show in 2011. She too had Pitbull for company. British actress-singer, Amanda Holden too was inspired by Britney as she covered herself in bling in 2011 at a promotional event.

Ranveer woos Sonakshi

With two back to back hit films, Sonakshi sinha is touted as B-Town’s luckiest charm. Her movies ‘Dabangg’ and ‘Rowdy Rathore’ have been mega hits. But that hasn’t stopped some of her detractors. They have continued to taunt her being overweight. The latest to join the gang is Vindu Dara Singh. He is wrestling legend and actor Dara Singh’s son. Vindu also won the Season 3 of Big Boss. In a recent interview he has said that, “Sonakshi is a little fat. but it is not her mistake.” There is a good news for Sonakshi as we have found a person who truly admires her. It is actor Ranveer Singh. Recently he had said about Sonakshi, “I think she’s gorgeous. Those who have worked with her know that she’s very fit. You can make that out from her dancing and action sequences. Moreover, I think that her attitude towards her detractors is a cool one. I don’t like it when people try and take away from such a fantastic talent on the basis of something as superficial as her weight.” Indeed a real compliment. And all this while we thought that Ranveer was trying to seek the attention of Deepika Padukone!

Saifeena shifting to Salman - Shahrukh patch up? By now, we all know that Salman new home in 2014 Khan and Shah Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor did a puja in their new home, a stone’s throw away from their current residence, before their marriage on October 16 last year. In fact, the sangeet ceremony was held on the terrace of their new abode. However, Saifeena will shift out of their current residence and into the new one only in 2014. With both maintaining very tight shooting schedules, they hardly have time to supervise the interiors of their new apartment. One of the most respected interior designers in India has been hired to do up the place. But Saif also wants to be there when key decisions are being made. So, work has been progressing at a slower pace.

Rukh Khan hugged at politician Baba Siddiqui’s Iftaar party. However, according to sources it would be foolhardy and utterly unrealistic to presume that that the cold war between the two Khans is over. “Far from it,” says a source close to Salman, “Bhai has said many times in the past that he would never again be friends with Shah Rukh. Their differences are irreconcilable. And that’s how it remains. The hug at the Iftaar party just happened because of circumstances. Neither Bhai nor Shah Rukh could say no to their host when he led Salman to Shah Rukh. They’ve the highest regard for him. And that’s why they were both there at the same place at the same time. It was only because of the host that Bhai made that gesture. There is nothing more to it.” Several mutual friends of the warring Khan superstars have tried to bring them together. The most recent is Katrina Kaif, a close friend of Salman, she worked with Shah Rukh for the first time last year in Yash Chopra’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan. “Katrina tried to explain to Salman that Shah Rukh is a nice guy. But Salman won’t listen to anyone about patching up with Shah Rukh,” says a source. AUGUST, 2013 61

Royal Baby is a Boy!

The wait is finally over! Kate Middleton and Prince William welcomed a baby boy at St. Mary’s Hospital .According to reports, a royal aide announced the good news with a proclamation signed by the doctors who delivered baby HRH Prince of Cambridge, which read, “Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge has safely delivered a son at 4:24pm on 22 July. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.” Though there are plenty more details to come, the first notice will remain outside the hospital for 24 hours before it is sent to the Privy Council. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived at the Lindo Wing of the London hospital after the 31-year-old went into labor. The pair entered the wing through a side door to avoid the large crowds of admirers and paparazzi awaiting their entrance. In regards to the little one’s future, he will have a shot at the royal crown as recently announced by Queen Elizabeth II in a Letters Patent stating, “All the children of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales should enjoy the style, title and attribute of Royal Highness with the titular dignity of Prince or Princess prefixed to their Christian names.”

Ryan Reynolds fears he is destined to have only sons RYAN REYNOLDS fears he is genetically destined to father only sons as he and his wife grew up surrounded by brothers. The actor wed his The Green Lantern co-star Blake Lively last year (12) and he reveals that they have big plans for their future, but he worries the family home will be full of testosterone. He explains, “We’d love to have a big family. We both come from big families - my parents did four (kids), Blake’s did five. A lot of people say it’s crazy, but we’ll only know when we’re there, you know? We’ll walk through that fire pretty happily, I think.” “I’m terrified that I’m genetically predisposed to only having boys. That’s frightening. “By the time I was 10 years old, and I’m not exaggerating, I knew how to patch drywall. There’s nothing my brothers and I didn’t put a hole in... That’s something I’m not looking forward to.”

Glee star Cory Monteith no more The 31-year-old actor was found dead in a hotel room in Vancouver, Canada on Saturday after he failed to check-out on time. McCanick, the cop drama, which is currently in post production provided Monteith a role with a stark contrast fro his singing, dancing role in Glee. McCanick’s director, Josh Waller, has said that the star had been determined to tackle the gritty project because he “wanted to tap into things from his youth that he hadn’t been able to use as an actor yet”. Waller said: “He was like, ‘I can do this character, I know this character, I was this character, and I have lived elements of this.’ He said, ‘I was a troubled youth.’ He was so charismatic and passionate about the material it was just a combination of everything that made me think this guy was going to do it.” The director, who developed a close bond with the actor, said Monteith was putting his recent relapse into drug taking and stint in rehab behind him. “He had expressed that he was kind of going through a rough time, but that he was feeling better about it, and then when I saw him at the screening he wrote me a really sweet email. “He didn’t say it was a cathartic experience, but you could sense it,” Waller said. Heath Ledger was also playing a “dark” part when he died in 2008 from a drug overdose alone, like Monteith, in a hotel room. The Dark Knight, in which Ledger played the part of the Joker, was in post production when he died.

In signing the petition, supporters plead with President Barack Obama: “Obama please make Miley Cyrus’ Party in the USA our national anthem. It is what is best for this country.” A total of 100,000 signatures are needed to have the proposal brought to officials’ attention, but as Wenn went to press, the petition had garnered just over 550.

Sprint king Usain Bolt set to turn out for M U Manchester United is about to inject some serious pace into their team with the signing of sprint king Usain Bolt.. well, sort of. Bolt, a well-known united fan, has apparently been given the green light to turn out for his heroes in Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial match against Sevilla. Not one to play down his own abilities, the 100m and 200m Olympic champion has boasted of his footie skills in the past and had been cheekily pushing Sir Alex Ferguson to give him a trial before the legendary Scot retired at the end of last season. ‘I know I could make a difference. I’d be the fastest in the team - but I can play as well,’ said Bolt. Well now it appears he is to get his chance, after Ferdinand managed to persuade new boss David Moyes to let Bolt pull on the famous red shirt in the benefit game at Old Trafford later this summer. A source told: ‘Usain has finally got his wish and he’ll be lining up alongside Rio. It should be quite a game. ‘It will be fascinating to see if Usain’s speed will be matched by his passing and ball control.’

Chelsea to Offer £240k to Wayne Rooney Jorge Lorenzo seals third Chelsea is ready to match Wayne Rooney’s £240,000-a-week wages Catalunya MotoGP win and offer him a five-year deal if the striker is able to force his way out of Manchester United this summer. Rooney’s future at Old Trafford has been in doubt ever since former boss Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that the striker asked to leave the club towards the end of last season after being left out of a number of key games, including the decisive Champions League quarter final second leg against Real Madrid.New manager David Moyes insisted at his first press conference last Friday that Rooney would be staying at United this summer, but there are still issues that remain unresolved and that the striker is still determined to push for a move this summer. It appears Chelsea is ready to take advantage of the situation and offer Rooney a fresh start in west London with the newspaper suggesting that he’s Jose Mourinho’s No.1 target and owner Roman Abramovich is willing to pay United £30m plus match the players £240,000-a-week wages and offer him a five-year deal to make the switch to Stamford Bridge. It would certainly be a sensational deal if it was to happen and with Rooney spearheading an attack that would also include the likes of Juan Mata, Eden Hazard, Oscar and Andre Schurrle, Chelsea would surely be one of the favourites to land the Premier League title next season. However, it’s for that very reason United will be desperate not to sell to the Blues as selling them Rooney will not only weaken the Champions squad but it would also severely strengthen their rivals, so if they are forced into selling the forward.

MOVIES Movie Reviews

Pacific Rim (2013) When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse. BHAAG MILKA BHAAG Brilliantly directed by Kakeyshy Om Prakash Mehra. It is a biopic on Milkha Singh- the Flying Sikh. It has been marked as an outstanding film with an incredible performance by Farhan Akhtar. Though long, it keeps you hooked throughout. Milkha Singh lost his family during India-Pakistan partition. The name of the movie translated as Run- Milkha –run is taken from the last words spoken by Milkha’s father to save his life from the riots during partition of India. His story in the movie talks about his persistence as an athlete and also as a courageous human spirit. He started running for a glass of milk a day. Then he ran for wearing Indian blazer. And then ran for national pride- breaking records after records . Whenever he runs on the track, a stench of suspense fills the air, and brings everyone to the edge of their seats. The tight fisted spectators break out into jubilation when he wins, the same crowd crashes with a heartbreak if he loses. Farhan Akhtar has got into the shape and skin of the character perfectly. Sonam Kapoor has a little role but becomes the causative factor for Milkha’s transformation. Every detail, every emotion and every moment has been captured with precision. The spirit of the film never gets fizzled in its 188 minute long runtime. The film will have you entranced with its pluck and puzzle and you tend to overlook few intermittent hitches. A strikingly crafted film that is raw and genuine. Don’t miss this patriotic tribute to Milkha Singh. Balupu After making a griping spy thriller Vishwaroopam and small budget spooky film Avunu, the leading production house, PVP Cinema, has dished out a masala potboiler Balupu that belies big expectations. It has some hilarious moments and actor Ravi Teja (Shankar) is back in his elements as a reformed thug. Crazy Mohan (Brahamanadam) and his niece Shruti (Shruti Hassan) too evoke some laughter. However, just humour can’t compensate for a wafer-thin plot and the imbalance in the narrative. Shruti looks gorgeous, but has nothing much to do acting wise, whereas the other actress, Anjali, has a slightly better role as she reforms Shankar and his father Nanaji (Prakash Raj). Ashutosh Rana also impresses as the antagonist. Gopichand relied on fun moments instead of discovering a novel plot. There are similarities with films like Pokiri and Kick and parts of the climax just go over the top. Even fun films should have a reasonable good plot.

They went the traditional way and displayed dance forms of different Indian cultures, each form depicting the start of their food festivals. It was a perfect kick start for their month long celebration on turning one in Hyderabad. It was a wine and snack evening followed by cake cutting.
