Художник Алексей Иорш хорошо известен в московской газетно-журнальной среде как карикатурист и график. Его работы были неоднократно премированы на международных профессиональных конкурсах. В конце 2000-х гг. он обратился к станковой живописи и графике, соединяя традиции раннесоветского искусства, стрит-арт и изобразительную систему китайской классической живописи на бумаге. Одним из результатов такого взрывоопасного соединения стал проект «Киты», включающий в себя живопись, графику, объекты и видео. Чувствуя себя абсолютно органично как в классических, так и в современных медиа, автор вдохновенно творит альтернативную мифологию нашего недавнего прошлого,
Alexey Iorsh is an artist known to Moscow media circles as a cartoonist and graphic master. His creations have brought him many prizes of international professional competitions. In the late 2000s Alexey tried his hand at easel painting art and graphic art combining traditions of early Soviet art, street art, and Chinese classic painting on paper. The explosive mixture has resulted in «The Whales» Project, which incorporates paintings, graphic works, objects, and videos. Feeling comfortable in classic and contemporary media, the author has been creating alternative mythology of our recent past with much enthusiasm. Upon a closer view, it may be called «retro-futurism». His art pieces reveal his sincere (but not exclusive of irony and self-irony) attitude to stories he portrays, which makes them particularly convincing. Alexey is one of the first Russian cartoonists and one of the creators of Russia's first comic studio «COM». He has been actively popularizing comic art, which has brought him several prizes: in 2010, he was awarded a prize of the Italian Culture Center for his «Musya Pinkenson» cartoon and a Special Prize of the Italian Comics and Illustrations Festival in Lucca; in 2008– 2009, he received a prize from art critics and Italian Culture Center prize.
