Only PERFECT is good enough In the medical Industry, quality of life may depend on a few microns. This is why the Danish high precision mold makers of Sønderborg Værktøjsfabrik has been focusing on what they do best for more than 40 years: quality tools for injection molding. And this of course is why EROWA proudly supports the highly respected specialists with know-how on process automation. EROWA and Sønderborg Værktøjsfabrik joined forces in 1998. During the 20 years of active cooperation, many projects were realized for the benefit of both companies. Sønderborg Værktøjsfabrik developed their highly automated tool shop based on the EROWA flexible manufacturing concept. EROWA profited from professional feedback on the products involved in the four main steps of application.

An important part of the success at Sønderborg Værktøjsfabrik is the inclusion of all stakeholders in the improvement projects. Tool room staff, production planning and management realized the huge advantages that could be made available by consistently applying EROWA technology. First steps During the late 1980s, the EROWA ITS electrode holding system was used, as in all important tool and die making companies. But unlike many of our customers back then, the people at Sønderborg Værktøjsfabrik realized the potential of the full EROWA concept almost immediately. Therefore they soon followed up on PreSetting and registering the offset values for automatic transfer to the CNC control of the EDM machines.

It‘s a long way to OEE Overall Equipment Effectiveness is the word of the day. For companies such as Sønderborg Værktøjsfabrik, it is nothing less than their daily business. The reason being that their multinational clients demand the best in terms of delivery time, quality and of course pricing. The only way to match all those parameters is to constantly strive for more productive hours per machining cell at a reduced risk of errors. And again, this is where the EROWA FMC concept is a key factor in their success.

Automation For anyone with the task of creating a cost-efficient operation in toolmaking, it is apparent that automation of the processes is a key factor. At Sønderborg Værktøjsfabrik this realization was quickly followed by the first investments in EROWA Automation. Starting with advanced productivity In 1999 the initial cell, consisting of an AGIETRON EDM machine, a Wenzel CMM and an EROWA ERS Robot was introduced to the factory. Of course it was clear from the start that the management of such a production cell had to be supported by a fitting process control software. The EROWA JMS (Job Management System) in its early version was introduced in 2005. Since then many more Robots and the follow-up concepts of CMM machines, latest additions to the tooling system, as well as the constant development on the part of the JMS process control software have been brought into operation.

Latest projects There is no question of Sønderborg Værktøjsfabrik deciding to stop advancing their search for the „perfect mold shop“. The latest projects aim at the upgrade of the CMM machines with the ultimate software regarding quality control and reporting. The Metrolog X4, and with the once more improved presetting software PreSoft Configurator X4 for the quick and accurate location, storage and transfer of electrode off-set values is this software.
