Day 7

La Carrera Panamericana is much more than a car competition. Its magic lies in bringing to the present the perfection and delicacy with which cars were built from the 1940s to the 1960s, instruments of mobility that far from dusting in a garage, circulate in the sunlight of the hand of authentic experts in speed and adrenaline.

This

internatio-

nal rally is exported to the whole world. Its media impact in Europe and America, mainly,

allows

year after year to have a waiting list to register and enjoy the last and only competition on real roads.

Year

after

year, anecdotes are written and new idols emerge for those who like this competition. On

brated its first 30 years of existence on a trip that began in Queretaro and concluded in the state of Durango.

Day 0 (Wednesday October 11th)

Technical inspection After long months of work and preparation, the 87 crews registered in the seven categories of competition in the Pan American race, touched ground in the Ecocentro of Santiago de Querétaro, where, in the hand of the direction of scrutiny, headed by Víctor Pérez, the inspectors placed the stamps of “OK” that endorse the cars that approved in matters of safety and mechanical operation.

This day is usually lived with great emotion, as approving the inspection is the first reward for those who dedicate days to the modification of these classic cars that run throughout the week in the most demanding roads of the Mexican Republic.

As is traditional, the honorary president, Eduardo León toured the Ecocentro of the hand of the former Mexican driver, Adrián Fernandez, who

Thursday October 12th

Qualification

“La Peña de Bernal”, a gigantic monolith located in the state of Queretaro, was the stage in which the classification stage took place. is a speed stage, perhaps not very demanding or conflicting, but very fast and very technical, but very fast and very technical. Those who have in mind to win have to go

out to give everything from these first kilometers, but only define the starting position of the first day, for some it is very important to be in very good position. There are more cautious teams, with different strategies, there are those who come out to know the car and finish putting it to the point and those who tune to the last details of communication and trust among the crew. It is time to know and measure the limits of the car, as well as confirm the optimal functioning of the intercom equipment, time to release the fear and that the adrenaline do his thing. It’s the first step to winning La Carrera.

Day 2

Querétaro - Puebla

Friday October 13th

568.030 Km. Total

A good driver should always test his skill under pressure and also... in the rain. This climatic factor surprised the competitors of La Carrera, on the first day of competition. The moisture in the asphalt was a factor that accompanied during the day to the crews that moved from the state of Queretaro to Puebla.

The first official day of the race with stages by which it is climbed and lowered in both directions, is a very closed, very short plot with few straights and many climbs where the cars with the most powerful machines and the more technical pilots achieve advantage , here begins the true Carrera Panamericana, the landscapes are spectacular and the

stages are very nice where you empiza to meet the true conrticantes of each car for the rest of the race. Some define the corduroy as the “House of Jabonero” which does not fall slips, always pay bills, such a long competition does not allow the possibility of making any mistake.

Day 2

Saturday October 14th

Puebla - Mexico City 600.220 Km. Total

Special day with many speed sections in the area of the Zorrillo and Chazumba until reaching Huajuapan de León already in the state of Oaxaca. A partial goal in the center of Tehuacán where it is already traditional the great reception that year after year, by the great hobby of that city to the participants of La Carrera Panamericana.

This day there are very technical sections that can make an important difference because there are very fast stages where in former times were reached speeds of up to 290 km/h. Every year Mexico City is paralyzed for a few hours to wait for the arrival of the classic car

convoy participating in the Pan American race. A spectacle out of series, in which the fans of the motor sport, have direct contact with the crews and with the vehicles in the Central Alameda and that on this occasion, they traveled through the sections of Oaxaca and Puebla towards the beautiful and chaotic Mexico City.

Day 3

Mexico City - Morelia

Sunday October 15th

One of the pleasures that undoubtedly enjoy in La Carrera Panamericana is to roll through some of the most significant corners of the Purépecha geography. Two sections to be missed in this competition are undoubtedly those that run over Huajúmbaro and a Mil Cumbres, in which are some of the most loyal and passionate fans.

Gabriel Perez decided to change the sequential box by the normal, with a very long third and the setting of the suspension for the previous box, caused that they had a spinning top in Mota II, hitting the rail and being in the opposite direction in the blind spot of a curve , with no greater consequence than the loss of five minutes.

i

The strong emotions would not end there, within the same stage, curves later, are turned backwards in a blind corner to the Studebaker of Ralf Huber and Armando Zapata, thanks to the “volantazo” to the left that Gabriel did, manage to pass through the reduced space between the back of the car No. 49 and the hill.

i

ó

n

Day 7

Thursday October 19th

It starts on the last day with already very well defined positions. Press, services and part of the Staff of the organization left Zacatecas before sunrise. The biggest transit of the race waits ahead until you get to Durango. The competitors are regrouping in Durango and the first stage of speed of the day Rio Chico I, starts at 10:28.

54

Zacatecas - Durango 677.920 Km. Total

Last day and already with 3.000 kilometers traveled the ravages are visible in all that continue. El Soldado is the second stage of the day, before the first service in the Coyotes petrol station, and although there are few casualties, the contingent remains very nourished. Then La Palma, another timed section.

i

ó

n

For the third consecutive time the state of Durango threw the house out of the window to celebrate the conclusion of La Carrera Panamericana. After a week in which the sportsmanship and the enthusiasm of the crews, marked the road that understood little more than 3,000 kilometers, finally fell the checkered flag and

uncovered the sparkling wine. Accompanied by Eduardo León, honorary president, the authorities of the state of Durango and Adrián Fernandez, Grand Marshall of the 30th edition, the participants celebrated having arrived in Durango, in a race where to finish, is already wining.
