Waddon Ponds forms part of the Wandle Valley Regional Park and provides the starting point for pedestrians and cyclists heading north along the Wandle Trail. The ponds, which dominate the park, are fed by springs which flow via a culverted inlet at the northern end of the ponds (under Mill Lane) into the River Wandle. The park entrance, and the Wandle Trail entrance adjoining the park are run down, and visual connections are poor.

Proposed Elevation: Mill Lane Entrance

Proposed Elevation: Wandle Trail Connection

Entrances to the park and the trail have been dramatically opened up with new, re-aligned walls and railings. Resin bound, and resin bonded surfacing also serves to highlight the entrances. Decorative bespoke metal railing panels flank the new gate at the park entrance, creating a visual identity for the park. Sandstone sett detailing separates the new surfacing from the adjoining tarmacadam footpaths. The removal of existing site furniture has drastically reduced clutter from the entrances. New site furniture follows a predefined materials palette, and is subtle, clean, and consistent in design. A designated parking space for the existing snack van has been created with permeable paving.
