As we reflect on 2019 and began to prepare for 2020, there is quite a run of emotions. CWA 2019 was a successful show in terms of attendance, exhibitors, sales, and excitement. Our new partnership with the Saskatchewan Roughriders resulted in great numbers at the gate with the free Monday admission. Despite the harsh growing season and especially tough harvest, show entries and sales figures remained strong and steady. The barns definitely had a buzz throughout the CWA 2019 show week. We are proud of our international and incoming buyers program, which continues to grow each year. 2019 brought in over 1,400 international guests and 230 international buyers. We had many requests for 2020 show information before 2019’s show was even over! Education is a foundational element for Agribition. Educating Saskatchewan youth about all aspects of the agriculture sector is important and we were pleased to have over 10,000 school children on the grounds this year. In 2019, we introduced a new rodeo circuit finals, Maple Leaf Finals Rodeo. This new Pro Rodeo event was a great success, brought in new sponsorship and included a special celebrity appearance, Amber Marshall from CBC’s hit show Heartland. It was exciting to have Federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Marie-Claude Bibeau, and Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister, David Marit on the grounds this year. Minister Marit and Minister Bibeau spent the better part of a day touring the facilities and meeting with exhibitors along the way. Everyone here at CWA is working hard towards the 50th show, November 30th to December 5th; the very same dates as the first show back in 1971. It is amazing to think of the change in conditions and facilities throughout the years. One thing that has remained constant over all the years is that none of this could happen without the continued dedication and support of exhibitors, sponsors, CWA staff, the Board of Directors and the hundreds of volunteers who show up year after year. Agribition Altitude Motocross Agribition Altitude Motocross was an action-packed show that brought X-Games stunt athletes to the Brandt Centre for a one-of-a-kind thrill ride. This freestyle motocross show also featured a meet-and-greet with the performers.

Goat Yoga Fan-favourite goat yoga was back in 2019. Goat yoga combines therapy, fitness and fun and gave participants an opportunity to get up close and personal with some friendly farm animals.
Maple Leaf Finals Rodeo, presented by Ford In 2019, CWA was home to the inaugural made-in-Canada Maple Leaf Finals Rodeo, featuring 10 top rodeo Goat Yoga contestants who competed in seven major rodeo events for a chance to win $100,000 in prize money and a chance to compete at the RAM National Finals in Florida. CWA also introduced a series of theme nights including Family Night, presented by SaskMilk and Energy Appreciation Night, presented by Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers. Maple Leaf Finals Rodeo - Energy Appreciation Night CWA’s Friday night rodeo performance was dedicated to the men and women who keep our homes warm and the lights on. This rodeo performance was presented by Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers and featured CWA’s energy partners, Cross Borders Drilling, Enbridge, Haztech, Plains Midstream, JJ Trucking, and Baker Hughes.
RBC Taking It Global CWA was host to RBC’s first ever series of seminars, Taking it Global, where producers had an opportunity to Amber Marshall Meet & Greet learn about the best practices involving trade and exports.
Food, Fuel, and Free Trade presented by CN Back again for 2019, CWA hosted it’s signature leadership event for business leaders, politicians and decision makers . Ticket-holders heard from Premier Scott Moe on the pressing issues including Canadian exports, the state of the economy and the new political landscape on the heels of the federal election. The event was held over a light breakfast in the International Trade Centre and included a charity auction for STARS.

Cowboy Mounted Shooting CWA expanded the cowboy mounted shooting circuit, featuring Canadian and World Champions and hosted the Eliminator Finals on Saturday November 30.
CN100 - A Moving Celebration In 2019, CWA was home to CN’s 100 Year Anniversary Celebration, CN100 - A Moving Celebration. Arena 1 of the Co-operators Centre featured an immersive exhibit where guests had an opportunity to learn about the history of CN, the people and innovations that built North America.

Agribition Pancakes in the District Kick Off to Agribition Pancake Breakfast The fifth Annual Kick Off to Agribition, presented by CN, was held on November 2 at Local and Fresh. The event attracted over 600 attendees and gave them a little taste of Agribition by having a heifer calf, a horse, a mini donkey, goats, and alpacas on display. Save on Foods provided pancakes and bacon while Colony Coffee provided the coffee. At the breakfast, CWA announced a multi-year partnership with the Saskatchewan Roughriders that will see the organizations team up ahead of the 2020 Grey Cup and CWA’s 50th show. CWA and the Saskatchewan Roughriders kicked things off by announcing free gate admission on the first day (Monday) of the 2019 and 2020 show.

2019 Scholarship Recipients Canadian Western Agribition offers three different scholarships to provide financial support and incentive to students who are connected to the show in order to pursue post-secondary and/or graduate education. Each scholarship can be used at any recognized post-secondary institution in Canada or the United States. Since 1993 when the program began, $218,500 in scholarships have been awarded.
Canadian Western Agribition (CWA) Scholarship Recipients - $2,500 The CWA Scholarship is open to students with a history of involvement in CWA as exhibitors, volunteers, or competitors pursuing post-secondary education. Brandy Fettes (Gladmar, SK) – Brandy grew up on a purebred Red and Black Angus operation and has participated at CWA for 11 years as a beef exhibitor and in the Agribition High School Rodeo. She plans to become a registered massage therapist with a goal to pursure animal massage thereapy and chiropractic treatments. Shelby Lockie (Balgonie, SK) – Shelby was raised on a commercial cow-calf operation. She spent seven years participating in the Agribition High School Rodeo, and became the Saskatchewan High School Rodeo Queen. She’s completing her Associate of Arts Degree at Miles Community College and plans to pursue a degree in communications and public relations. Baxter Blair (McLean, SK) – Baxter grew up on a commercial and purebred Angus operation and has participated at CWA for eight years as a beef exhibitor. He’s in Grade 12 and plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Animal Health with a goal to become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
Barry Andrew Family Scholarship Recipient - $1,500 The Barry Andrew Family Scholarship is awarded to students with a history of involvement in CWA as well as pursuing post-secondary education in the field of Agriculture. Emily Letendre (Spruce Home, SK) – Emily grew up farming with her grandpa and was involved in 4-H, and participated in the 4-H and Youth Judging Competition at CWA. She’s in her second year at the University of Saskatchewan studying Animal Bioscience.
William M. Farley Memorial Scholarship Recipient - $1,500 This scholarship is open to students with a history of involvement in CWA with special recognition for those contributing to the show through volunteerism. Cheyenne Porter (Wainwright, AB) – Cheyenne was raised on a purebred Limousin operation and has participated at CWA for five years as a beef exhibitor. She’s involved in the Canadian Junior Limousin Association and the Alberta Junior Limousin Association. She’s in her second year at the University of Saskatchewan studying Animal Bioscience and plans to pursue Veterinary Medicine.
