Introduction

What is a Hose Reel?

• A hose reel is a hose storage device

which ensures a hose is always accessible and ready for use. The hose is stored in a coil on the reel which helps to prevent damage to the hose when not in use. There is less of a tendency for the hose to twist on a reel, which makes the hose more effective by improving flow.

• There are significant Health & Safety advantages in using hose reels.

Hoses lying on the floor can cause slips, trips and falls, and can be easily kinked or damaged.

• 50% of accidents in the workplace are caused by trip hazards.

Why use Hose Reels?

• Hose reels provide a quick and easy

system for storage and retrieval of hoses, instead of having hoses tangled on the floor. The use of a hose reel can save valuable labour time by always having the hose available for immediate use.

ERIKS Maidenhead Heathrow Airport Cable Reels Case Study Following a request from Heathrow, Maidenhead branch contacted Redashe for custom cable reels. A site visit followed and a detailed specification was completed to ensure the customer’s expectations and approvals were achieved.

1 Heavy duty, high amperage, battery charging reels for ceiling mounting in the POD vehicle repair workshop.

The introduction of these four reels has improved workshop safety be removing trip hazards and potential electrical short circuits.

2 Following a successful trial of a cable reel for Terminal 5 Sky Bridges, a further 60 reels were delivered. These are used to connect thermostats for the ground based, heating and air conditioning system.

The cables are yellow for high visibility and the reels have slow retraction for safety.

Because the heating and air-con systems are no longer operating continuously when aircraft are parked, there have been significant power savings as a result and these savings are set to continue. The payback time on these cable reels is only a matter of months.
