MESSAGE FROM THE MAESTRO Dear friends, Thank you for joining us tonight. This concert has become a cherished tradition in our community, a celebration of the music and friendship that unite Italy and the United States. For over twenty years, it has been a great privilege for me to serve this extraordinary community. The Villages is a place of friendship, kindness, and hospitality. Each year, we have the honor of welcoming both those who call this place “home” and the many guests who join us throughout the year. It is with deep gratitude that I share the gift of music with such a warm and attentive audience. Tonight, we continue a tradition that celebrates the rich musical heritage of Italy and the United States. It is a joy to present a program that reflects the beauty, passion, and spirit of two great cultures, united by the universal language of music. It is also a true pleasure to welcome two exceptional artists making their debut with The Villages Philharmonic on the stage of The Sharon Performing Arts Center. Please join me in welcoming Salvatore Minopoli, an outstanding Italian tenor whose prestigious career includes performances with the Rome Opera and who is currently a member of the company at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples. We are equally honored to welcome the celebrated Peruvian tenor Rafael Cavero, whose artistry has been acclaimed for years in major opera houses across Germany and Europe. I am delighted that both artists are making their first appearance with us tonight. I also extend a warm welcome to two wonderful artists who have become beloved members of our musical family: Samantha Barnes Daniel, whose stunning soprano voice will bring to life many of America’s most cherished melodies, and Sean Stork, whose rich baritone timbre and expressiveness continue to captivate our audience. PROGRAM NOTE Tonight’s concert is a celebration of the enduring friendship between Italy and the United States, expressed through the universal language of music. For more than a century, the story of Italy and America has been a story of hope, opportunity, and shared values. Beginning in the late nineteenth century, millions of Italians crossed the Atlantic in search of a better future. They arrived with determination, a strong work ethic, deep family values, and a rich cultural heritage. Through dedication, perseverance, and an unwavering desire to become part of their new home, they helped build and enrich the communities in which they lived, while proudly preserving the traditions of their Italian roots. America welcomed generations of immigrants whose talents, commitment, and dreams became an essential part of the nation’s cultural and social fabric. Among the most celebrated was Enrico Caruso, whose unforgettable voice captivated audiences throughout the United States, and whose triumph at the Metropolitan Opera made him one of the first truly international musical stars. Alongside Caruso stood another giant of Italian music, Arturo Toscanini, whose extraordinary artistry transformed the world of orchestral and operatic performance. As Music Director of the Metropolitan Opera and later as the legendary conductor ini of the NBC Symphony Orchestra, created especially for him, Toscanini introduced generations of Americans to the highest standards of musical excellence. Together, Caruso and Toscanini stand as enduring symbols of the profound contribution that Italian culture has made to America’s artistic heritage. The musical heritage of the United States has likewise made an extraordinary contribution to the world, giving rise to melodies and musical traditions that have become part of the shared cultural language of generations. This evening, Italian and American music come together in celebration of that shared heritage and of the enduring friendship between two nations whose histories have been enriched by one another. MAESTRO PASQUALE VALERIO, MAESTRO Pasquale Valerio is an internationally acclaimed orchestral conductor. In 2004, he founded The Villages Philharmonic Orchestra, serving as its Music Director and leading performances and tours throughout Florida and internationally. He is also the founder of the Lake Sumter Chamber Orchestra and served as co-founder and conductor of the Florida Lakes Symphony from 2005 to 2006. Maestro Valerio has collaborated with numerous distinguished European orchestras, including the Philharmonic Orchestra ‘900 of the Teatro Regio Opera in Turin, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Prague, the Virtuosi of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Virtuosi of the Philharmonic of Bacau, and the “A. Scarlatti” Symphony Orchestra of Naples. In 2006, he assisted Sir Antonio Pappano, Music Director of the Royal Opera House in London. This significant collaboration deeply influenced Maestro Valerio’s artistic development and conducting philosophy. From 2007 to 2009, he collaborated with the Viotti Music Festival in Vercelli, Italy. In May 2018, he began an ongoing relationship as Guest Conductor with the North California Music Festival. Born in Naples, Italy, into a family rooted in strong cultural and religious traditions, Maestro Valerio demonstrated an early passion for music. He began formal musical studies at age ten with piano and, at thirteen, pursued trumpet studies. During this formative period, he met Maestro Filippo Veniero, who became an important mentor in his musical development. He studied trumpet at the Bari Conservatory under Maestro Francesco Lentini, earning his intermediate diploma, and later completed his advanced studies under Maestro Diego Benedusi. After completing his formal training, he performed as a trumpeter with major opera and symphonic institutions, including the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples and other prominent orchestras. Concurrently, he pursued studies in Composition and Score Reading under Maestro Filippo Veniero. In 1998, following influential encounters with American conductors J. Whitney and Gunther Schmidt, Maestro Valerio resumed advanced conducting studies. A pivotal moment in his career came in 1999 when he met renowned conductor Anton Coppola, who became his mentor and artistic guide. Maestro Valerio is a frequent guest conductor and collaborator at international festivals and competitions, including the International Piano Competition “F. Schubert” in San Cristoforo, the Bacau Philharmonic Virtuosi (Romania), the Viotti Music Festival, Camerata Ducale (Italy), the Piano Festival of Carrara and Arezzo, Orchestra 900 of Teatro Regio in Turin, Oída Symphony Orchestra (Arezzo), the Philharmonic Orchestra of Benevento, New Orchestra Scarlatti, and Florida Philharmonic. In the 2023 academic year, he was appointed Visiting Professor of Conducting Studies at the London Performing Arts Academy. Later that year, he was named to the Honor Roll of the ALTAMURA MERCADANTE FEST.

Opera Orlando.

Acclaimed soprano, chamber musician and teacher Samantha Barnes Daniel is originally from Orlando, FL, where she received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Central Florida. She then completed her Master of Music in Vocal Performance & Opera from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. She worked as a Resident Artist with companies such as Arizona Opera, Chautauqua Opera and

She is a two-time National semi-finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and was a Sarah Tucker Grant Nominee in the Richard Tucker Foundation Competition. Ms. Barnes Daniel performs regularly with Opera Orlando, the Solaria Singers of Orlando Sings, the Basilica Choir at Mary, Queen of the Universe Shrine, The Villages Philharmonic and Space Coast Symphony. She has also sung with the Voices of Liberty at EPCOT, The Orlando Philharmonic, Orlando Shakespeare Theater, Opera Tampa, Chautauqua Opera, Arizona Opera, and The Illinois Philharmonic, among others. Stage highlights include Magda Sorel in Menotti’s, The Consul, First Lady in The Magic Flute, Clorinda in Cenerentola, the Mother in Hansel & Gretel, and Catherine of Aragon in Opera Orlando and Helena’s award winning Orlando Fringe show, 6 of VIII, for which she also wrote the book. Ms. Barnes Daniel is a passionate choral musician and has recently performed soprano solos in two acclaimed large choral works, Helios, by Timothy C. Takach, and Considering Matthew Shepard, by Craig Hella Johnson. She also regularly records for Hal Leonard Choral Publications and was a featured studio musician for the 2023 relaunch of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Recent concert credits include the soprano soloist in Rutter’s Mass for the Children, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, the Mozart, Fauré and Brahms Requiems, Vivaldi Gloria, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, Bernstein’s Mass, Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610, Schoenberg’s 2nd String Quartet, Mahler’s 2nd & 3rd Symphonies, and Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915. Ms. Barnes Daniel is on the voice faculty at the University of Central Florida and Harrison School for the Arts in Lakeland, FL, while also maintaining a thriving private studio. She is also a founding member of the professional women’s ensemble, Helena.

FEATURED ARTISTS RAFAEL CAVERO Tenor Rafael Cavero born in Lima, Peru from an Italian Peruvian family, started his studies in vocal techniques in Peru. He won a full scholarship in 2000 for the “Schwob School of Music” at Columbus State University (USA) given by the “Woodruff Foundation”. Traveled to Milan-Italy 2003 to study with Professor Vittorio Terranova. Moved to Munich-Germany in 2005 to improve his vocal technique with Professor Saverio Suárez-Ribaudo. He performed a variety of roles like: “Alfredo” in G. Verdi’s Traviata (Italian and German language), “Don José” in G. Bizet’s Carmen (High Lights), “Pinkerton” in G. Puccini’s Madame Butterfly (Italian and German language), “Macduff” in G. Verdi’s Macbeth, “Ismaele” in G. Verdi’s Nabucco, “der Erster Geharnischter Mann” in Mozart´s Zauberflöte,“Candide” in L. Berstein’s Candide, “Don Ottavio” in Mo-zart’s Don Giovanni. In Lima, Perú in the role of “Giuseppini” in the Zarzuela El duo de la Africana. He sang in prestigious Concert Halls, including: Herkulessaal (Munchener Symphoniker), Prinzregententheater, Cuvilliés-Theater in Munich, Rheinische Philharmonie in Koblenz (Staatsorchester Rheinische Philhar-monie), Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts (Orlando, FL), Concert Hall Nybrokajen 11 in Stockholm, Segura Theater Lima, Perú (Lima National Symphony). During his entire career Rafael Cavero has performed not only opera, but also sang other different styles like crossover, in Latin American music and international music with orchestra in Austria, Germany, USA, Italy, Perú, Chile, Bahamas and Africa, performing in more than 600 concerts. He is a member of the AGV “Akademiker Gesang Verein” (acronym for the Academic Singing Association abbreviation in German) in Munich Germany. Mr. Cavero has been a frequent guest on radio and television stations like: Telemundo, Unision, Mundo Fox (Orlando, FL), BR, SWR, RTL (Germany), Chanel 2, 4, 5, 7 and Andina TV (Lima, Perú). In 2016 Rafael Cavero founded Global Kultur Entertainment Group in Orlando, FL, company specialized in organizing musical concerts in all its forms and styles with high production standards.

FEATURED ARTISTS SALVATORE MINOPOLI Lyric tenor, born in Naples on September 20, 1995, graduated with top honors (110/110 cum laude) and an Academic Mention in the advanced two-year Second-Level program in Voice and Musical Theatre at the Giuseppe Martucci Conservatory in Salerno, under the guidance of Maestro Marilena Laurenza. A student of Maestro Mariella Devia, he completed advanced masterclasses in high-level specialization with Maestro Luciana D’Intino, Maestro Vincent Scalera, and Maestro Piero Giuliacci. He has performed in a variety of solo roles, including Count Danilo Danilowitsch in “The Merry Widow” by Franz Lehár, after auditioning for Maestro Daniel Oren in 2019 at the Giuseppe Verdi Municipal Theatre in Salerno; Emperor Altoum in Turandot under the baton of Maestro D. Oren; Erster Geharnischter in « Die Zauberflöte » by W.A. Mozart; and “Gastone” in “La traviata” by Giuseppe Verdi. He has worked with several major opera foundations, including Arena di Verona Foundation (since 2018) in the following titles: Aida, Turandot, Nabucco, Carmen, Il Trovatore, Tosca, Carmina Burana, Verdi Gala, Domingo Opera Night, Celebrity Fight Night “La notte di Andrea Bocelli”. Petruzzelli Lyric-Symphonic Foundation in Bari (since 2018) for the following titles: The Flying Dutchman by Wagner, Aida and Verdi’s Requiem Mass, Symphony No. 2 “Lobgesang” by Mendelssohn, Ajace di Fiume, and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. Teatro Massimo Foundation of Palermo (since 2020) for the following titles: Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni, Don Giovanni by Mozart, Ninth Symphony and Mass in C Major by Beethoven, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, A Survivor from Warsaw by Schoenberg, and Verdi’s Requiem Mass (since August 2023) he has worked with the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma Foundation (competition winner in 2024). New Year’s concert for five tenors and orchestra at the Giuseppe Verdi Municipal Theater in Salerno. Also at Salerno Cathedral, a concert for seven tenors organized by Salerno’s Teatro Verdi. Gala of the Umberto Giordano Competition Finalists at the U. Giordano Theater in Foggia. Concert at the Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii with the Artemus Orchestra. Opera Gala at the Augusteo Theater in Salerno with the Martucci Conservatory Orchestra of Salerno. Multiple concerts at Castello Fienga, the Diana Theater in Nocera, and the Pagani Auditorium with the Campania Philharmonic Orchestra. SEAN CHRISTOPHER STORK Sean Stork has been singing across the state of Florida since graduating from Florida State University in 2007, including regular engagements with Opera Tampa as well as First Coast Opera in St. Augustine, The Florida Lyric Opera in Tampa, and The Villages Philharmonic, Imperial Symphony, and Orlando Philharmonic Orchestras. A strong supporter of modern music, his original works have been recorded on two CDs by the Basilica Choir of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe.
