As we celebrate our first ten years, we’re also stepping into an exciting new chapter: The Sharon is now proudly powered by Significant Productions, a registered nonprofit dedicated to creating meaningful, memorable arts experiences in our community. With this new foundation, we’re not only preserving what makes The Sharon special, we’re building toward a future filled with bold ideas, diverse stories, and even more opportunities to surprise and delight you.

We have arrived at the concert that brings this wonderful 2025–2026 season to a close. We have traveled an extraordinary journey, performing magnificent musical works ranging from oratorio to the symphonic-operatic and Pops genres—experiencing unique emotions and rejoicing alongside you in such musical beauty. The upcoming season will be enlivened by equally extraordinary musical works and monumental symphonic repertoire—true musical monuments such as Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony and the monumental Ninth Symphony by L. V. Beethoven for soloists, chorus, and orchestra; indeed, the Ninth was the final symphony composed by the great master. The Italian Opera Arias
A Journey Through the 19th and Early 20th Century
Opera is a form of storytelling in which music and drama express emotions through the human voice, often beyond the reach of words. In the Italian tradition, it is the vocal expression that reveals a character’s inner world - their desires, conflicts, and transformations. While orchestration and staging shape the theatrical whole, it is ultimately the voice that communicates emotional truth most directly.
Within this context, the aria holds a special place. In performance, it often emerges as a moment of reflection, when dramatic time seems to slow. In a recital, each aria becomes a self-contained dramatic scene - an emotional world in miniature, shaped by the interplay between singers and orchestra, which both supports and intensifies the expressive meaning.
For listeners new to opera, it is not necessary to follow every word. The expressive language of this repertoire unfolds through sound itself: timbre, phrasing, and the way voice and orchestra interact can suggest longing, tension, joy, or resignation.
The program presented this evening traces a broad evolution across the 19th century, a period in which Italian opera underwent profound transformation. At the beginning of the century, Gioachino Rossini established a style defined by clarity, elegance, and rhythmic vitality, in which vocal brilliance is closely linked to a refined sense of theatrical timing, while a distinctive use of crescendo and repetition creates momentum and energy, allowing singers to display agility and precision.
In the generation that followed, Vincenzo Bellini and Gaetano Donizetti brought the bel canto tradition to its expressive height. Their music unfolds in long, sustained melodic lines that invite a deeply introspective mode of listening. Many arias from this period move from a lyrical, contemplative opening to a more animated and virtuosic conclusion, mirroring an intensification of emotional experience. In Bellini, this often takes the form of expansive, almost suspended melodic arcs, while Donizetti introduces a more immediate dramatic impulse, with sharper contrasts and a heightened sense of urgency.
With Giuseppe Verdi, Italian opera takes a decisive turn toward greater dramatic immediacy and psychological depth. The relationship between music and drama becomes more fluid, and the distinction between aria and action less rigid. Rather than suspending the narrative, music participates directly in its unfolding, shaping character and emotion with increasing precision and force.
Toward the end of the century, Giacomo Puccini carries this tradition into a more modern expressive world. His music is marked by a heightened sense of atmosphere and continuity, often described as cinematic in its pacing and immediacy, with the orchestra playing an essential role in shaping the emotional landscape. Voice and accompaniment become closely intertwined, creating a musical language that feels at once intimate, direct, and vividly theatrical.
Around the turn of the 20th century, composers of the “Giovane Scuola” (Young

School), such as Pietro Mascagni, adopted the aesthetics of verismo, redirecting opera’s focus to everyday life and to forms of expression marked by immediacy and emotional intensity. Traditional formal boundaries begin to dissolve, and the aria itself often merges into a more continuous dramatic flow.
Thus, the works in this recital reflect different moments within an evolving tradition, tracing a path from the elegance of bel canto to the more immediate, dramatic language of late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century opera, while remaining rooted in a shared expressive tradition.
What may at first seem unfamiliar can quickly become vivid and compelling through attentive listening. These arias offer an invitation: not only to appreciate the beauty of the singing, but also to encounter the depth of feeling that opera brings to life.

PASQUALE VALERIO, MAESTRO
Pasquale Valerio is an internationally acclaimed orchestral conductor. In 2004, he founded The Villages Philharmonic Orchestra, serving as its Music Director and leading performances and tours throughout Florida and internationally. He is also the founder of the Lake Sumter Chamber Orchestra and served as co-founder and conductor of the Florida Lakes Symphony from 2005 to 2006.
Maestro Valerio has collaborated with numerous distinguished European orchestras, including the Philharmonic Orchestra ‘900 of the Teatro Regio Opera in Turin, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Prague, the Virtuosi of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Virtuosi of the Philharmonic of Bacau, and the “A. Scarlatti” Symphony Orchestra of Naples.
In 2006, he assisted Sir Antonio Pappano, Music Director of the Royal Opera House in London. This significant collaboration deeply influenced Maestro Valerio’s artistic development and conducting philosophy. From 2007 to 2009, he collaborated with the Viotti Music Festival in Vercelli, Italy. In May 2018, he began an ongoing relationship as Guest Conductor with the North California Music Festival.
Born in Naples, Italy, into a family rooted in strong cultural and religious traditions, Maestro Valerio demonstrated an early passion for music. He began formal musical studies at age ten with piano and, at thirteen, pursued trumpet studies. During this formative period, he met Maestro Filippo Veniero, who became an important mentor in his musical development.
He studied trumpet at the Bari Conservatory under Maestro Francesco Lentini, earning his intermediate diploma, and later completed his advanced studies under Maestro Diego Benedusi. After completing his formal training, he performed as a trumpeter with major opera and symphonic institutions, including the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples and other prominent orchestras. Concurrently, he pursued studies in Composition and Score Reading under Maestro Filippo Veniero.
In 1998, following influential encounters with American conductors J. Withney and Gunther Smidth, Maestro Valerio resumed advanced conducting studies. A pivotal moment in his career came in 1999 when he met renowned conductor Anton Coppola, who became his mentor and artistic guide.
Maestro Valerio is a frequent guest conductor and collaborator at international festivals and competitions, including the International Piano Competition “F. Schubert” in San Cristoforo, the Bacau Philharmonic Virtuosi (Romania), the Viotti Music Festival, Camerata Ducale (Italy), the Piano Festival of Carrara and Arezzo, Orchestra 900 of Teatro Regio in Turin, Oída Symphony Orchestra (Arezzo), the Philharmonic Orchestra of Benevento, New Orchestra Scarlatti, and Florida Philharmonia.
In the 2023 academic year, he was appointed Visiting Professor of Conducting Studies at the London Performing Arts Academy. Later that year, he was named to the Honor Roll of the ALTAMURA MERCADANTE FEST.

MARTINA SANNINO
Martina Sannio is an Italian soprano, graduated in Vocal Performance (Opera) from the Conservatory “San Pietro a Majella” in Naples, where she studied under Anna Vandi Gaggiotti. She began her musical training at the age of 11, studying piano and solfeggio with Giuseppe Polese before continuing her piano studies with Francesco Pareti.
Since 2011, she has been an active member of the “Jubilate Deo” Association in Torre del Greco, performing regularly both as a chorister and as a soprano soloist.
She made her debut as a soprano soloist at the Verdi Theatre in Salerno in Carmina Burana, and has since performed leading roles including Mimì (La Bohème), Violetta (La Traviata), Adina (L’Elisir d’Amore), Tosca, Suor Angelica, and Santuzza (Cavalleria Rusticana), working with conductors such as Giuseppe Polese and Nicola Polese. Her concert appearances include Dvořák’s Te Deum and Perosi’s Il Natale del Redentore at the Abbey of Casamari, performed with the Odessa National Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Beatrice Venezi. She has also appeared at the International Festival of Mezza Estate in Tagliacozzo in the concerts E lucevan le stelle and Casta Diva, under the direction of Jacopo Sipari di Pescasseroli and Dian Tchobanov, alongside the Abruzzo Symphony Orchestra.
She has taken part in productions of Masaniello by G. Napoli, L’Uccellatrice by Jommelli, and La Bohème by Puccini at the Conservatory “San Pietro a Majella” in Naples, and made her debut in the title role of Suor Angelica at the VI edition of “Nebrodi in Canto.” She also performed the role of Santuzza with the “Santa Maria di Loreto” Association in Naples under the direction of Luigi Pontillo.
Winner of the VIII edition of “Voci in Canto,” where she performed the role of Mimì, she has further refined her artistry through masterclasses with Adi Bar, Bruno Praticò, Elizabeth Norberg-Schulz, Katia Ricciarelli, Donata D’Annunzio Lombardi, Marco Chingari, Francesca Patanè, and Andrea Carnevale.
DAVIDE BATTINIELLO
At just 17 years old he brilliantly passed the entrance exam for the three-year course in opera singing at the San Pietro a Maiella music conservatory in Naples. His generosity and desire to test himself on every occasion with the utmost skill and application, Make Davide Battiniello, an artist with excellent prospects.
At 19 he joined the Jubilate Deo musical association of Torre del Greco with which he carries out an intense concert activity, touching on all genres from sacred to profane music. In the summer of the same year he participated in the Etna Opera Festival as a chorister and soloist in “La Traviata”

and in “Cenerentola” by G. Rossini directed by M. Simone Alaimo.
In December of the same year he participated in the opera singing Masterclass with M. Katia Ricciarelli. And again in the same period he was a finalist at the IX International Opera Singing Competition “Città di Ravello”.
He is currently studying under the guidance of the masters Francesca Patané, Marco Chingari, Giuseppe Polese and Andrea Carnevale.

He took part in “Le Nozze Di Figaro” W.A.Mozart having won the competition and the role. At the Etna Opera Festival Simone Alaimo made his debut conducted by Maestro A.Tarantino at the “Etna Opera Festival” with the direction of Maestro Simone Alaimo.
January 4th at the Cine Teatro Ferrari in “serata in Concerto” he performed as a soloist tackling a vast Italian opera repertoire and finally the classic Neapolitan.
October he took part as a soloist in the International Conference “NAPOLI&ROSSINI” ‘Di questa luce un raggio.
December 21st at the prestigious Sala Scarlatti of the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella in Naples he took part in the “Petite messe Solennelle” by Gioachino Rossini for Soloists, Choir, two Pianos and Harmonium as a soloist accompanied by the Choir of the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella” under the guidance of Maestros A. Berardo and S. Biancardi and F. Pareti.
2019
Teatrino di Corte of the Royal Palace of Naples, the San Pietro a Majella Conservatory of Naples presents “Pagine del 900 italiano”, a show created by the Department of Singing. He performs as a soloist in a concert for Soloists and Choir. He had the opportunity to study “Napoli Milionaria” by Nino Rota. On this occasion there was the collaboration of the Academy of Fine Arts School of Scenography of M’ Gennaro Vallifuoco.
August 3rd he participated as a soloist in the concert “Lirica sotto le stelle” which, with an engaging program of opera pieces and Neapolitan classics, will see the participation of the great bass-baritone Simone Aliamo.
2021
January 12th, at the municipal theater of Sarno (SA), he participated in a lyrical concert for Soloists and orchestra, tackling a vast Italian repertoire. In January 2022 he won the competition as an artist of the added chorus at the San Carlo theater in Naples, coming first in the ranking.
2022
In April he won the audition of the Puccini Academy at the Gran Teatro Giacomo Puccini in Torre del Lago Puccini, where he debuted the role of the Mandarin in “Turandot” and Crebillion in “Rondine”.

May 28th at the Teatro degli Animosi in Carrara, he performed as a soloist in a concert of excerpts from Pietro Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana with an orchestra conducted by M. Jacopo Sipari diPescasseroli.
June 6th he won the competition as an additional choir artist at the Carlo Felice theater in Genoa, coming first in the ranking. 2023
October 20th he is Ainulfo in the opera Normanni a Salerno by Temistocle Marzono, debuting the role in concert under the direction of Maestro Giuseppe Polese at the Di Costanzo - Mattiello theater in Pompeii.
2024
January he participates in the Aslico Tour, playing the role of Prince Calaf in Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot. “Turandot Enigmas at the museum.”
June 2nd he wins the role of Don Jose de la Carmen by G. Bizet at the CUORE d’oro competition, awarded by Mrs. Nicoletta Mantovani.
June 6th he participates in a Masterclass in opera singing at the “Casamuseo Luciano Pavarotti” in Modena with tenor Marcelo Alvarez.
September 8th he debuted the role of Alfredo in La Traviata by G. Verdi at the Mattiello theater in Pompei in semi-staged form, under the guidance of Maestro Nicola Polese.
2025
March 16th he is Mario Cavarodossi at the Falcone and Borsellino Auditorium in Costabissara in semi-staged form with piano.
April 1st he sings as a soloist at the Parish Church of San Rocco in Frattamaggiore (NA) concert “100 YEARS OF VOICE AND EMOTION” “HOMAGE TO RINA DE TATA” accompanied by Maestro Davide Dellisanti.
April 12th he sang as a soloist a concert with a orchestra at the KIMMEL center for The Performing Art theater in Philadelphia (USA) under the direction of Maestro Maurizio Petrolo concert “CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA E GRANDI AMORI Arias and Italian Belcanto.
June 14th he is Don José de la Carmen by G. Bizet at the Di Costanzo – Mattiello theater in Pompei.
Upcoming Commitments:
On July 3, 2026 will be at the Massimo theater in Palermo as a soloist in a concert hit orchestra.
Immediately after the concert at the Massimo theater in Palermo, è will be engagement for a production and for hit debut of Fritz in Pietro Mascagni’s Amico Fritz at Gattieres with Opus 2025.
At the end of July and all of August è will be busy at the Verona Arena as a Cover for Traviata and Rigoletto as the main protagonist.
