Since opening in 2015, we have strived to establish your trust, that a show at The Sharon is a show worth seeing. MESSAGE FROM THE MAESTRO Dear friends and supporters of The Villages Philharmonic, Today we celebrate Valentine’s Day with special guest artists. We give a special welcome to Violinist Gennaro Desiderio on his debut at The Sharon; and welcome the return of Vocalists Raphaella Medina and Stephen Mumbert. This evening’s program is structured with pieces by John Williams, Leonard Bernstein, Astor Piazzolla and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Please save your day for our annual Fundraising Black tie event, scheduled for February 27th at The Sharon. It will be a joyous celebration of our 20th anniversary as The Villages Philharmonic Orchestra. Yes, it was 20 years ago that my dear brotherly friend Oscar Feliu and I began this project to promulgate the arts to this extraordinary community; The Villages. In recent years we have had many supporters who have lovingly supported the project. In particular, I would like to thank Ms. Margaret Dick for her love of music and the VPO. MAESTRO PASQUALE VALERIO, MAESTRO Pasquale Valerio is an internationally acclaimed Orchestral Conductor. In 2004 he founded The Villages Philharmonic Orchestra, became its musical director, and is still engaged in concerts and tours throughout Florida and worldwide. Maestro Valerio was also the founder of the Lake Sumter Chamber Orchestra as well as co-founder and conductor of the Florida Lakes Symphony from 2005 to 2006. He collaborates with various European orchestras such as the Philharmonic Orchestra ‘900 of the Teatro Regio Opera in Turin, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Prague, the Virtuosi of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, the Virtuosi of the Philharmonic of Bacau, the “A. Scarlatti” Symphony Orchestra of Naples, Orchestra Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. In 2006 had the opportunity to assist Sir Antonio Pappano, current Music Director of the Royal Opera House in London This collaboration represented a great point of reference for maestro Valerio and indelibly marked his experience of conducting growth. From 2007 to 2009 he collaborated with the internationally known Viotti music festival in Vercelli, Italy and in May 2018 he began an ongoing cooperation with the North California Music Festival as guest conductor. Pasquale Valerio was born in Naples to a family linked to cultural traditions and founding religious values. The great passion for music was evident from the first years of his life, but, only towards the tenth year of age did he begin his musical studies, first with the piano, and subsequently, at the age of thirteen years, when he began studying trumpet. It is in this period that Pasquale met Maestro Filippo Veniero, an important musical guide for subsequent studies. He studied trumpet at the school of Maestro Francesco Lentini, Bari Conservatory, with whom he obtained the middle completion and, subsequently under the guidance of Maestro Diego Benedusi, he obtained the superior completion of trumpet. After completing his trumpet studies, he collaborated as an instrumentalist with orchestras of major opera and symphonic institutions including the Opera House “Teatro di San Carlo in Naples “and with other major opera orchestras and symphonic institutions. Simultaneously he studied Composition and Score Reading at the School of Maestro Filippo Veniero. The meeting with two conductors, J Withney and Gunther Smidth (United States) conditioned the musical journey and made it possible that in 1998 Pasquale resumed his studies started in Naples with F. Veniero. Also important was the meeting with the famous conductor Anton Coppola in 1999, who became Pasquale’s mentor and guide. 352-751-7799

Schubert” in San Cristoforo Virtuosi of the Bacau Philharmonic, Romania, Viotti Music Festival, Camerata Ducale, Italy, Piano Festival of Carrara/Arezzo Orchestra 900’ of the Teatro Regio of Turin, Oída Symphony Orchestra (Arezzo) Philharmonic Orchestra of Benevento, New Orchestra Scarlatti and Florida Philharmonia In the academic year 2023 he was appointed Visiting Professor of Conducting Studies at the “London Performing Arts Academy” and at the end of 2023, appointed Honor Roll of “ALTAMURA MERCADANTE FEST”.

FEATURED ARTISTS GENNARO DESIDERIO Born in 1974 into a family of musicians. He began studyng music on the classical guitar. In 1980 he partecipated in an international competition for classical guitarist in the town of Recanati. He won first prize In 1981 he left the guitar for the sound of violin. He first studied with M° Ciro Astarita, and than under the guidance of M° Arciprete who leads him to his diploma at “S. Pietro A Majella” Conservatore in Naples. In 1986 he partecipated as a guest in the television programme “Domenica In” togheter with his two brothers Aniello and Gaetano as a Trio, where he gained both the audience and critics acclaim. A versatile musician when he completed his studies he felt the urge to approach other musical styles and therefore he took up an intense concert activity which led him to confront both jazz and pop. With Lina Sastri in 1997/98 he took parta s a solo violinist in the world tour of the show “Cuore Mio” (My Heart). In 1998 he was at “Biennale Dell’Arte” in Venice with Enzo Moscato. In the same year, together with other neapolitan musicians he formed the “Maluki Jazz Quartet” with which he won first prize at “Foggia Jazz Festival”. He has participated as a leading musician in many television shows with the “DIMI” orchestra, under the direction of M° Peppe Vessicchio. He has chosen by M° Roberto De Simone to take part of some of his best known works such as “Gatta Cenerentola” and “ L’Opera Buffa del Giovedì Santo”. In the year 2000 he formed a duo with Aniello, which performed both in Italy and abroad: Winthertur, Bonn, Musikfest di Bremen, Wesel, Colonia, Francoforte, Brucknerhaus di Linz, Waldkraiburg, Murnau, Rheingau Music Festival, Istanbul. In 2002 he and his brother Gaetano performed as solo artist at “Todi Music Fest” under the direction of M° Walter Attanasi, the world premier of Astor Piazzolla’s “Histoire du Tango” for solo violin, piano obbligato and orchestra, arr. By Ciro Caravano (I Neri per Caso). In 2003 for the Opera Ballet and concert season at the “ Teatro Dell’Opera” in Rome he played as a solo artist in the show “Girotondo Romano” by Beppe Mehegatti with Carla Fracci. In the same year he became first violin in the permament orchestra at the “Trianon Theater” in Naples. Still in 2004 he was in New York playing duo with pianist Cristiana Pegoraro for the Italian Culture Month and The Italia America Chamber of Commerce al DiCapo Opera Theatre di NY in Music and Passion from Naples to Buenos Aires. In 2005 and 2006 he was invited as solo artist to the USA for the opening concert of the Todi Musicfest for violin and orchestra. In 2007 he toured Europe (Germany, Turkie, Holland) along with his brothers Gaetano and Aniello and the argentinian bandoneon player Romulo Larrea in quartet and orchestra concert within a Tanghero programme. He has recorded several albums ranging from classcal to pop, jazz and folk music among which his brother Aniello “Tango y Danza” for “Universal” label. He is currently engaged as first violin and solo player in the TV programme “Amici” hosted by Maria De Filippi. He i salso working on a concert and recording project “From Vivaldi to Piazzola” with Aniello Desiderio quartet. RAPHAELLA MEDINA Lauded for her ability to “exquisitely set the scene” (Orlando Sentinel), Chilean-American mezzo-soprano Raphaella Medina is known for her honest, engaging performances and versatile voice. This season, Raphaella makes her Winter Opera St. Louis debut as Zerlina in Don Giovanni. She will also cover the role of the Collector in On Site Opera’s premiere of Song of the Nightingale. Most recently, Raphaella made role debuts as La Ciesca in Gianni Schicchi and Clarina in Rossini’s The Marriage Contract with Opera Orlando as a member of their Studio Artist program. In the same season, Raphaella also made multiple debut appearances across Central Florida: as a soloist with the Villages Philharmonic Orchestra, performing “La vie en rose” in Orlando Ballet’s production of Moulin Rouge, and as a soloist in the world premiere of orchestrated selections from Alex Burtzos’ HE Who Gets Slapped with the UCF Symphony under the baton of Eric Jacobsen. A versatile performer, Raphaella feels at home across a wide range of repertoire, demonstrated neatly in the 2021-2022 season: Raphaella made her role and house debuts as Diana in the mariachi opera Cruzar la Cara de la Luna with Opera Santa Barbara; covered the role of Beggar Woman in Sweeney Todd and sang the role 10 TheSharon.com

FEATURED ARTISTS of Elder 2 in Lembit Beecher’s Sky on Swings as part of Opera Saratoga’s summer festival; and stepped in as a last-minute replacement for Rosina in the final dress rehearsal of Il barbiere di Siviglia with Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera. On the competition circuit, Raphaella recently placed third in the Opera Tampa D’Angelo Competition. In past seasons, she was named a Bonnie Bell Encouragement Award winner in the James Toland Vocal Arts Competition, as well as a winner of the San Francisco District and an encouragement award winner in the Western Region Finals of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition. In addition to her work on the opera stage, Raphaella has been featured as a soloist in concert and recital repertoire with Florentine Opera, New Albany Symphony Orchestra, Paradise Symphony, and the Leipzig Hochschule für Musik und Theater. Raphaella also participated in both Joyce DiDonato’s and Marilyn Horne’s Carnegie Hall masterclass series. Raphaella is graduate of the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston and the College of Music at Florida State University. Raphaella is managed by Encompass Arts, LLC. STEPHEN MUMBERT Hailed as a “Scene-stealer…with a knack for staying in character even when he isn’t the center of attention,” as well as “Vocally the most promising singer…with an assured and stylish technique.” by the Guardian Newspaper for his interpretation of Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Stephen Mumbert is currently an Adjunct Professor of Voice at Rollins College as well as Seminole State College and maintains a private voice studio here in Orlando FL. He is a graduate of Stetson University where he holds a B.M. in voice performance, and he also holds an M.M. in opera from The Boston Conservatory. Recent performances include singing Khan Kontchak from Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances in Steinmetz Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Bass Soloist for the Winter Park Bach Society’s Classic Christmas Concert which was filmed and aired on PBS this past Christmas, a concert of Handel’s Vespers with the Bach Vocal Artists, Mozart’s Requiem with the Riverside Community Chorale and Orchestra as well as with the Dakota Valley Symphony (broadcast on Twin Cities Public Television), Handel’s Messiah with the Messiah Choral Society, First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, and Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, Jesus in Bach’s St Matthew Passion, BWV 90, and Faure’s Requiem with the Bach Festival Society of Winter Park, Adam in Haydn’s Creation with Orlando Sings, the Doctor in the Death of Ivan Ilych, Count Monterone in Rigoletto, Actor 8 in a tour of All is Calm, as well as Marco in Gianni Schicchi all with Opera Orlando, and a new opera project performing the lead roles of Guildenstern in Herschel Garfein’s 352-751-7799 11

FEATURED ARTISTS Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead and Hopkins in Robert Aldridge’s Sister Carrie staged with the respective Grammy award winning composers in residence. Upcoming local performances include singing as bass soloist for Bach’s B Minor Mass in Steinmetz Hall with Orlando Sings, Bach’s Magnificat and Voices of Light with the Bach Festival Society of Winter Park, and Bass soloist in Considering Matthew Shepard with Orlando Sings/Solaria Singers at the Dr. Phillips Center. MEET A VPO ORCHESTRA MEMBER JOSE ANTONIO GUÉDEZ Venezuelan Violinist, he was born in San Felipe, Yaracuy state and began his violin studies at the age of 8, under the tutelage of maestro Samuel Parra at the “Blanca Estrella de Mescoli” Music School. The training of his career as a violinist continued under the preparation and guidance of Maestros: Raúl Rodríguez, Jesus Sira, Geronimo Isturiz, Rhio Sánchez, Francisco Diaz And Sergio Celis, also participating in different Summer Courses organized by the “Academia Latinoamericana De Violín“ in Venezuela, where he had the opportunity to receive classes with Maestros: Alvaro Lares, Victor Vivas, Pablo Vasquez, Roberto Valdés, Ana Beatriz Manzanilla, Rhio Sánchez, Alejandro Mendoza, Francisco Diaz, Alexis Cárdenas and the renowned Maestro Jose Francisco Del Castillo. He was an active member of the Chair of Chamber Music of Professor Evelyn Soteldo at the “Vicente Emilio Sojo” Conservatory of Music in the City of Barquisimeto, Venezuela Alternating instrumental performance with teaching, in 2010 he obtained the title of Teacher in Music Education at the “Universidad Pedagógica Experimental Libertador, “UPEL””. In his musical career from an early age orchestral activity has always been present, forming part of important and recognized Orchestras such as: The Yaracuy State Children’s and Youth Symphony Orchestra, Yaracuy State Symphony Orchestra, Lara State Youth Symphony, Lara State Symphony Orchestra, Venezuela National Children’s Symphony Orchestra and the Youth Orchestra Of The Americas (YOA) in its 2005 and 2006 edition representing Venezuela as the second violins principal in international tours in Europe and South America. He was a member of the second violins Section of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, conducted by Maestro Gustavo Dudamel, with which 12 TheSharon.com

He currently resides in the State of Florida in the city of Orlando where he makes an artistic life as a guest musician with the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra under the conducting of Maestro Aaron Collins and The Villages Phillarmonie Orchestra conducted by Maestro Pasquale Valerio, he was also a collaborator in the Miami Dade College Symphony Orchestra under the conducting of Maestro Alberto Bade, he was an orchestral trainer of the string section in the International School of Music, conducted by Maestra Maria Salas, is a member of The Violin section of the Kameristika Chamber Orchestra under the preparation of Maestro German Marcano and is also the first violin of the Exodus String Quartet. He was awarded as “Emmy Award Recipient” for his participation in the tribute and recording of the works of “The Jackie Gleason Show” with the Miami Dade College Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Alberto Bade.
