International Subscription Offering at The Sharon: Travel. Most people like the idea of it, but does everyone like the hassle and expense of booking plane tickets, reserving hotel rooms, worrying about meals, then on top of that purchasing tickets to tours, museums, or other activities? Not really. Or at least that is my experience. It’s all those arrangements that usually keep us from taking that big trip to Peking, Vienna, Havana, or Barcelona. I know I have been planning a trip to Ireland for at least the last 5 years. It just keeps getting put off because of one thing or another. Well, now here at The Sharon we are happy to offer you our International Subscription. We have seven different shows from around the world, and by choosing a minimum of 5 you receive a 20% discount and a free signature cocktail from the bar on the night of each show. So, without leaving the state - let alone the country - you could be sipping a Sangria while taking in the amazing foot work of world renowned Flamenco Dancer: Farruquito, or drinking Gluehwein while listening to the crystal clear voices of The Vienna Boys Choir just to name a couple. I absolutely love to travel, but it is very nice to have some parts of the world come to me for once. So, I will be skipping the plane flight and the jet lag to enjoy Murphy’s Celtic Legacy come April, and I hope you will join me. I’ll save my trip to Ireland for next year. See you at The Sharon! Slan Leat! (That’s goodbye in Gaelic)

"Country's greatest strength!" -The Guardian It's just a small warehouse space, hidden by a nondescript exterior somewhere in Nashville. Inside you'll see mismatched chairs and rugs scattered around the cement floor. Little lights string across the high, black ceiling. A giant Texas flag covers much of one wall. A pool table, a dartboard, a basketball arcade hoop‌ This is The Band Cave, home away from home for all four members of Lonestar. For more than 20 years they've logged countless miles touring throughout the world, released several Platinum-selling albums and ten No. 1 singles, earned ACM and CMA awards and inspired rave reviews as far away as London, where The Guardian proclaimed them exemplars of "country's greatest strength: picture-painting, story-based, tear-your-heart-out lyrics that are the most direct and lucid in popular music."

when we're writing, we always try to stay true to how we've done it in the past sonically and lyrically, while still looking to take what we do to new levels." The exhilarating affirmations of the title track "Never Enders," the haunting reflection on time lost in "My Own Hometown," the emotional honesty of "Us," their playful, grin- teasing riff on modern love in "I Want a Love" and their tribute to all the gorgeous lady bartenders they've known on "Boomerang" each song on Never Enders mixes artful craft and the poetry of plain speech, each melody rings clear and all of it reminds us of how emotionally powerful country music can be.

Yet all roads lead back to The Band Cave, where lead singer/ guitarist Richie McDonald, lead guitarist/singer Michael Britt, keyboardist/guitarist/singer Dean Sams and drummer Keech Rainwater wrote and rehearsed songs for their tenth album, Never Enders, each one crafted impeccably yet as raw and soulful as all four members' Texas honky-tonk roots. Lonestar has always set the bar high, but Never Enders exceeds expectations. "It's always a challenge," says Richie as they gather one quiet morning at The Band Cave. "But

Ronnie Milsap Ronnie Milsap – Ronnie Lee Milsap was born Jan. 16, 1943, in Robbinsville, N.C. A congenital disorder left him almost blind, and he was raised by his grandmother in the Smoky Mountains until the age of five, when he was sent to the Governor Morehead School for the Blind in Raleigh, N.C. Showing an interest in music early on, at the age of seven his teachers recognized that he had considerable musical talent. He began studying classical music and learned several instruments, eventually mastering the piano. His youthful passion for rock music led him to form a band with some high school classmates called The Apparitions. Briefly attending Young Harris College on a full scholarship, Milsap left before graduating to pursue a career in music.

In the early 1960s, Milsap played his first professional gigs as a member of J.J. Cale’s band. In 1965, he released “Total Disaster,” his first single as a solo artist, which achieved some local success in the Atlanta area. On March 18 of this year, Milsap released "Summer #17" , his 31st album, which he describes as an homage to the music that inspired him. Hailed by USA Today, The Tennessean and NPR: National Public Radio, the set paid homage to the influences that shaped Milsap’s singular brand of soul-steeped country. With 40 No. 1 hits and more than 35 million albums sold, Milsap remains one of Country’ Music’s most successful and beloved crossover artists. At 71, he continues to tour the country, playing his music for multiple generations of music lovers.

BACKSTAGE AT THE SHARON 28

Oct 1-4, 2018 Elizabeth Constant (Booking Coordinator,) Jason Goedken (Operations Manager,) and Whitney Morse (Artistic Director) traveled to Orlando to attend the annual Performing Arts Exchange hosted by South Arts. This is a regional booking conference for all venue and art presenters in the south east section of the US. This is a wonderful pre-conference to the larger national booking conference held in NYC each January. The Performing Arts Exchange (PAE) is a great way to lay out a show season and follow up in January to really nail down the titles and shows we hope to bring in at The Sharon!

We are solidifying the offering for Season 19-20. We have selected the four Broadway offerings, an international orchestra, hot modern dance, and more. We are very excited about our dance offerings in 19/20 and look forward to announcing our Broadway titles in May 2019!

STAFF SPOTLIGHT

Katherine Van Tassell

Assistant House Manager at The Studio Box Office Assistant at The Sharon 30

What is your role at The Sharon?

I work in the box office at The Sharon and I am the Assistant House Manager at The Studio Theatre. At the box office I help people purchase tickets and on occasion help with will call. At The Studio I make sure all patrons have an excellent theatre experience along with the help of the House Manager, Grace Petty, and our band of excellent volunteer ushers. I take tickets, assist patrons to their seats, and answer questions.

What is your background and what got you started in Theatre?

I had always enjoyed theatre growing up and had a musical background, so the step into the world of theatre wasn’t a large one. I first got involved with theatre after taking an Intro to Theatre class my sophomore year of high school. I enjoyed the class and my instructor, so I decided to join the afterschool theater program. I’m relatively shy and introverted, so instead of seeking a role on stage I decided to learn more about the technical and backstage aspects of theatre. I joined the scenic crew and didn’t look back. I was involved in theatre until I graduated high school and decided to pursue it as my major in college. I studied scenic and lighting design at Loyola University Chicago, but by my senior year I had grown more interested in arts administration than design. Once I graduated, I still wanted to be part of the theatre world, so I starting exploring front of house and arts administration positions. From there I’ve held box office, house management, company management, operations, production, and human resource positions for both theatre and non-theatre companies.

How did you find out about The Sharon and what made you want to work here? My husband, Eric Van Tassell, is the new Lighting Director for The Sharon. I also knew Artistic Director Whitney Morse and Producer Jason Goedken from when we all lived in Chicago. When Eric and I first moved to this area a few months ago I was looking for a job. Knowing I also had a theatre background, Jason approached me about having some hours available in the box office and at The Studio. I jumped at the chance, having been impressed with the positive working environment The Sharon and The Villages promotes.

What’s your favorite part of the job?

I’ve really enjoyed my co-workers. They always put a smile on my face and I always look forward to coming to work. I know that they have my back and I hope they know that I have theirs. I also like “being a part of it all.” Knowing that I had a role in a show going smoothly fills me with a lot of pride.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

I’m looking forward to the rest of the season at both The Sharon and The Studio. We’ve had some really great shows so far and I’m looking forward to the rest of them.
