The Villages Philharmonic Orchestra Holiday Show The Hot Sardines The Beach Boys Broadway Christmas Wonderland
Whitney Morse, Artistic Director, The Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center
Holiday Blessings The Holidays are such a lovely time to remember and reflect on how blessed we are and give thanks for what we have in our lives. For me, one of my favorite things to do around the holidays is find a holiday show to see with my family, preferably one I have not seen before, or a fresh take on a classic. One of the these is coming to The Sharon this season: Broadway Christmas Wonderland. I love how much a holiday show can really kick you into holiday high gear. I always leave feeling so festive and ready to go out and spread the love, whether its volunteering or giving gifts to my family and friends. Plus, I got to spend the evening with my loved ones. What a blessing! So, I hope whatever your holiday traditions are, that you find a way to spread the love this year, because that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it?

Guest Singers for Holiday Show Mark Antonio de Villiers is a full lyric tenor who specializes in classical Italian repertoire and who currently performs concert repertoire abroad. Mark Antonio has performed in numerous concerts throughout South Florida. This young lyric tenor possesses the style and vocal power to be the next leading tenor in the world’s greatest opera houses. Mr. de Villiers’ voice is a beautiful, warm, and ringing Italianate tenor sound, perfect for the Italian belcanto repertoire and early Verdi and Puccini works.
Florida native, Mary Jo Vitale proudly attended the University of South Florida on a full scholarship for Vocal Performance from 1999-2002. Her keen interest in the business side of entertainment led Mary Jo to a Business degree from Palm Beach Atlantic University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2003. Shortly thereafter, she and her husband, Jon-Marc MacLean who is co-pastor of Hope Lutheran Church, moved to Lady Lake where she began performing in and around The Villages. Mary Jo is involved in many charities including Dollars for Scholars, Operation Shoebox, Seeds of Hope and produces and performs in the annual concert to raise funds for Multiple Sclerosis research. MS has been a cause dear to her heart since becoming diagnosed with MS herself in 2012.
Norman Lee took his singing career on the road at agc 19. In a very short period of time he achieved national prominence on radio, stage and television. He has shared the stage with some of the greatest names in the entertainment industry. While entertaining an audience remains at the core of Norman's soul, he credits God with providing the guidance and vision that has changed his life. Six years ago, Norman and his wife Terri founded The Garden Worship Center in Bellevue. Admitting that there is "a little bit of P.T. Barnum in me" the now PASTOR Norman Lee leads his approximate 1,000 congregants in performances that blend both spiritual and spectacle in his three weekly services.
Sean Christopher Stork, lyric baritone, has been singing across the state of Florida since graduating from Florida State University in 2007. He has made his unique mark on such roles as Guglielmo in Cosí fan tutt and Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Escamillo in Carmen. He is also an active composer and arranger, having commissioned works for the Basilica Choir of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe, as well as The Villages Philharmonic Orchestra. His full Biography and Resume are available at www.seanstork.com
Elodie S. Germain, Frances Ellerbe, Keith Workovski, Mark Schmidt and 18 Rollins College Students will also join the stage and lend their captivating voices to the perfomace.

Join the Hot Sardines for their Holiday Stomp show! The Sardines infuse yuletide classics with their unique twist from beloved chestnuts like White Christmas and Please Come Home For Christmas, to lesser known gems such as Edith Piaf ’s LeNoel de La Rue, Ella Fitzgerald’s Santa Claus Got Stuck in My Chimney, even The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. This 8 piece hot jazz ensemble will unleash their distinctly dazzling and inventive sound for a holiday concert you don’t want to miss! Members of the Sardines collective have worked with a genre-hopping roster that includes Rufus Wainwright, Sufjan Stevens, Lauren Ambrose, Sondre Lerche, Vetiver, Of Montreal, Nicholas Payton, Kurt Elling, Branford Marsalis, the New York and Jerusalem Philharmonics, Slavic Soul Party and the Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra.
You can capsulize most pop music acts by reciting how many hits they’ve had and how many millions of albums they’ve sold. But these conventional measurements fall short when you’re assessing the impact of The Beach Boys. To be sure, this band has birthed a torrent of hit singles and sold albums by the tens of millions. But its greater significance lies in the fact that it changed the musical landscape so profoundly that every pop act since has been in its debt. Happily for us all, The Beach Boys continue to create and perform with the same bold imagination and style that marked their explosive debut over 50 years ago. And now with their Capitol Records release, Sounds of Summer (RIAA certified triple platinum with over three million in sales and climbing), and it’s companion The Warmth of the Sun marks a resurgence in Beach Boys interest that has again rocked the world. In addition to founding Beach Boy Mike Love (lead vocals) and Beach Boy-vet Bruce Johnston (vocals/keyboards)—Jeffrey Foskett (guitar/vocals), Brian Eichenburger (bass/vocals), Tim Bonhomme (keyboards/vocals), John Cowsill of The Cowsills (percussion /vocals) and Scott Totten (guitar/vocals) round out the band.

What’s your background? I am formerly from Wilmington, Delaware. My background was in accounting and finance working in the health insurance industry. I also worked in the hospitality services industry as a part-time Banquet Bartender and Waiter. In addition, I worked as a Lobby Host for The Properties of The Villages in the Sales and Information Centers. What made you interested in becoming an Usher? I thoroughly enjoy the arts, music, and theatre, so I thought what better way to see the shows and give back some of my personal time to the community then to volunteer usher at The Sharon. I also truly enjoy the social interaction and directing our patrons to their seats in the theatre.
Donna Taylor What’s your background? I grew up in Michigan and my first job was a bank clerk. Through education and hard work, I rose to Assistant Vice President and realized a milestone when I was given the keys to the bank and the vault. Later in life, I opened my own Travel Agency. Now, I stand in awe of my two lion-hearted sons, Brogan and Ryan and my beautiful, smart, caring daughter in law, Natalie. They continue to give me a happily-ever-after with the gift of my two grandsons, Cole and Brayden. The biggest risk I've ever taken transpired after I retired when I authored two stories. The two stories I have published are "How to Hide a Dinosaur" and “Riley To The Rescue On The Hudson River,” which earned me an invitation to New York City for a book signing on the Intrepid Museum. How long have you been an Usher? It has been over a year. I was a docent for the Symphony in Donna meeting Matthew and Gunnar Nelson.
another city and could not have been happier when I read that the Morse family was building a state of the art performing arts theatre right here in The Villages.
THE STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Rebecca Morse House Manager and Facility Manager 15
What is your title and what responsibilities do you have? My title here is House Manager and Facility Manager. As House Manager, I am responsible for the training, acquiring and scheduling of the volunteer Ushers between our two theatres. I also handle any Front of the House issues that arise during the shows. My duties begin when the Lobby opens and end when the last patron leaves. As Facility Manager, I see to any repairs, maintenance and or inspections that the building requires.
What sparked your love of theater? I have loved music, singing and dancing since I was very small. I can remember my father taking me to his good friend's diner in my hometown. It was your typical Soda Bar with a long counter that made a perfect stage! Dad would lift me up and then turn on the tape recorder (yes it was that long ago) and I would sing and tap dance for the customers! I was 5 years old! Since then, my background has been more in show band type stage performing as a lead vocalist. However, anytime there was an opportunity to see live theater, I would go and was enthralled!! The first Broadway show I saw was Grand Hotel many years ago. At dinner after the show, I kept having to excuse myself from the table because I would become so emotional trying to express how I felt about it. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen!
Whitney & Rebecca Morse (above)
How many ushers do you oversee? At this time I have about 200 ushers that I oversee.
Does The Sharon bring in new ushers? We accept applications for new ushers once a year. June 1st thru June 30th, anyone interested may go to our Box Office here at The Sharon and fill out an application. New ushers are brought in and trained on an “as needed” basis. This year, we brought on 27 new ushers. I am not sure how many spaces we will have next year. Rebecca Morse & Oscar Feliu (below)
What do you love about your job? I have so enjoyed and am honored to be here! There is so much I love about my job! I was thrilled to meet Clint Black! I love that I get to work with my daughter and my son in law. But I have to say that what I treasure the most, is that I had the honor of working, once again with Oscar Feliu. Oscar hired me for my first job in the entertainment business when I was 21 years old! I was a singing cocktail waitress and had the honor of singing back up for him! I loved that he was here on staff when I came on board in March of 2015. I treasure the times that he was Manager on Duty here and once the show started, we got to sit and reminisce about our “Old Days” together. I truly love this job! I feel that everything I have done in my life, entertainer, emcee, sales and customer service, has prepared me for this position. You know the saying that if you love what you do, you won’t work a day in your life? I am living that saying and am so thankful to be here!

On Friday, November 18, 2016 The Studio Theatre Tierra del Sol commemorated opening night with a sold out house and a stellar first performance. Directly after the show the cast, crew, and many supporters conducted an official Ribbon Cutting ceremony in front of the new venue. A champagne toast followed and allowed the celebrations to continue. With so much hard work that has gone into opening The Studio Theatre, it was truly a refreshing and magical night, launching such a beautiful venue to the public.
From left: Jason Goedken, Whitney Morse, Elizabeth Constant, & Kenneth Constant Along with Whitney and Jason, Elizabeth and Kenneth Constant both assisted with the opening of The Sharon, and now about a year later, have helped to open The Studio. Two theatres in two years is quite a triumphant success!
