PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

Dear Patron of the Arts,

Welcome to The Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center!

Much like the building’s namesake, my grandmother, Sharon L. Morse, we love all varieties of the performing arts here. It is in her memory that I, along with my amazing team of artists and arts administrators, strive to bring many different types of the highest quality entertainment here to The Sharon.

Since opening in 2015, we have strived to establish your trust, that a show at The Sharon is a show worth seeing. Perhaps you find yourself here today to see a concert of one of your favorite musicians, or to take in the national tour of a Broadway show. Either way, we encourage you to consider trying out a new show that perhaps you haven’t heard of before, knowing that it has been intentionally curated by our team.

We welcome you to The Sharon: a place for you to see an old favorite, but also a place to discover your new favorite. I sincerely hope you enjoy the show today, and I look forward to seeing you here again soon!

David is a lyric baritone originally from Hudson, Wisconsin, and he has been studying and singing opera for eight years. Four years ago, he moved to The Villages and discovered the spectacular “Singing Servers” program run by Maestro Bill Doherty. After a kind invitation to audition, he performed with the Singing Servers for just one day before the pandemic forced them to shut down. Nevertheless, that experience sparked an incredible mentorship over the next four years with Maestro Doherty. He is deeply grateful to Maestro Doherty, who believed in his talent from the start and helped him grow both as an individual and a singer.

He has had the privilege of performing in many Central Florida Lyric Opera shows, including Hooray for Hollywood, Change the World, The Best of Broadway, and, most recently, the Christmas Spectacular at Saint Timothy’s Catholic Church, where he often cantors and sings in the choir. Two years ago, David was honored to perform the role of Schaunard in La Bohème. He is thrilled to reprise this role on January 11and invites everyone to come share in the magic of La Bohème. Schaunard is more than just a comedic, larger-than-life musician—he is a loyal friend who brings warmth and hope to his companions as they struggle through the frigid winters of Paris with barely enough money to heat their tiny apartment. His humor and companionship become a source of light when things get dark, perfectly capturing La Bohème’s themes of friendship and love.

In addition to his musical pursuits, David holds a degree in physics and works full-time as a software engineer—an unusual background that offers him a unique perspective on opera. To David, opera is a remarkable fusion of visual, musical, and historical artistry, created by brilliant composers who explore profoundly philosophical questions. Beyond its rich cultural heritage, opera also brings extraordinary people together. Everyone he has met through Central Florida Lyric Opera has been truly wonderful, and he is grateful to be part of this vibrant community in The Villages, Florida.

He looks forward to sharing his passion for opera with audiences near and far and hopes to inspire others with the transformative power of this timeless art.
