I started to write this show in my head the summer after my first solo show, 6 Guitars, premiered. I really loved 6 Guitars and was proud of what it allowed me to showcase, but I felt like it had a slight weakness in the storytelling department.

None of the stories from the characters at the time are directly connected. This lent itself to a cabaret feeling rather than a complete, cohesive narrative. My goal was to raise the bar with my storytelling in Nashville Hurricane. .

As for the music, I had just discovered the music and guitar mastery of Tommy Emmanuel. This Australian fretboard wizard redefined what I thought was even possible on the instrument, and I wanted that to inspire my arrangements for the guitar parts in this show. Funny enough, I got to play music with him years later. It was an evening I’ll never forget.

The show first premiered in 2012 to positive reviews, but something felt amiss.

It was a rough draft, and like all rough drafts, it was a bit too long and meandering.

So I rewrote the whole show with my co-creator Jay Hopkins, and by the summer of 2013, we had a brand new Nashville Hurricane that became the version now in residency at The Studio Theatre Tierra del Sol. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for coming out and supporting live theatre. The last few years have been challenging for us show folk, but seeing your smiling faces after such a long ordeal makes a world of difference to me and everyone else at Victory Productions. You really do make the magic happen.

Chase Padgett Performer/Writer Chase Padgett is an actor, singer, guitarist, and improviser who recently made his network TV debut as a semi-finalist on Fox’s newest reality singing show, ‘Alter Ego.’ As a Florida native, he studied music at the University of Central Florida while learning improv at the SAK Comedy Lab, the same theater that gave Wayne Brady his start. After working for Disney and Universal in various comedy acting roles. He premiered his first solo show, ‘6 Guitars’ in 2010 and quickly began performing to sold-out houses and rave reviews across North America.

Chase’s penchant for musical improv flavors all of his performances and has led to working with stars from the hit comedy show ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway’ and working as a guest entertainer for Disney Cruise Lines. Currently, Chase is developing/performing a new one-man show called “Lucky Break” and touring his other shows such as ‘Nashville Hurricane,’ and ‘6 Guitars.’ He recently moved back to Central Florida after being away for nearly a decade. He loves his family, friends, and his (too) many guitars).

Jay Hopkins Writer Jay Hopkins has been directing, acting, writing, and improvising professionally since 1988. He has a BFA in Acting and Directing from UNC-Greensboro. In 1992 he joined SAK Theatre in Orlando, FL, in Core Ensemble, then as a Creative Producer and Head of Education, ultimately being inducted into the SAK Hall of Fame in 2001. In 2004, with his wife Diana, Jay formed Jester Theater, where he has performed in and/or directed all of its shows, including A Tuna Christmas, Noises Off, and the Southeast premiere of The Musical of Musicals: The Musical. In 2008, Samuel French, Inc published his play The Illiad, The Odyssey and All of Greek Mythology in 99 Minutes or Less, which is being performed worldwide. Jay works with Universal Studios Orlando, Walt Disney World, Florida Studio Theatre, Ideas to Go, and TeamH Productions, to name a few. Helping develop shows is a passion, and collaborating with Chase to create ‘6 Guitars’ has been one of Jay’s most rewarding experiences in his theatrical career. More than anything, Jay loves his wife Diana and all his family. Outside of work, Jay enjoys poker, traveling, movies, and music (although he currently plays no instruments).
