3: Travel back in time to see America’s pastime played the way it was in the 1860s. Players (all volunteers) dress in period attire and play by the rules and customs of the period: using no gloves and incorporating the game lingo of the time. Bring chairs or blankets as there is no bleacher seating, and plan to spend the rest of the afternoon checking out the 6th Cavalry Museum next door to the field. Both the game and museum are free. Visit 6thcavalrymuseum.org/ events0.asp to learn more.

9: :This tasty summer celebration offers scoops from vendors throughout the zoo, as well as face painting, bounce houses, special animal enrichment and animal encounters. And what’s more, the zoo will close early to the public, so ticket-holders are ensured some sweet alone time with the animals. Advance tickets cost $5; if not sold out, wristbands will be sold the day of the event for $8 each. (Does not include price of zoo admission.) Visit chattzoo.org for tickets and more.

Duck Race

17 This annual event hosted by the Chattanooga Kiwanis Club Youth Foundation pits more than 5,000 rubber ducks against each other as they race from the Walnut Street Bridge to the finish line near Coolidge Park. Each duck will be numbered with a corresponding numbered ticket. Ducks that cross the finish line in first, second or third place could take home a $2,000, $1,000 or $500 prize. Ducks can be “adopted” for $5 each. Get tickets at cachc.org. For more information, call the event’s beneficiary, Children’s Advocacy Center of Hamilton County, at 423-266-6918.
