How and When Invneted: J

All embodiments shown were invented while I, Eric Talaska, was deliberately trying to think of new variations for skate speed control while in my temporary home at 1717 S. 15th St., Rogers, Arkansas. Each variation was invented on different days as follows: • Figs. 2-9 were invented on Thursday, December 5, 1996 • Fig. 10 was invented on Wednesday, December 4, 1996 • Fig. 11 was invented in April, 1996 (see my first patent application) • Figs. 12-13 were invented on Sunday, October 27, 1996 • Figs. 14-17 were invented on Monday, December 2, 1996 Useful Puposes: Allows skaters to slow and stop with control when needed without complications associated with lifting any wheel off the ground, usting cables, or hydraulics. Advantages

Over Prior Art:

Figures are individually referred to the following numbers below for ease of comparison: 1) No pivots (except for central cuff pivot) 2) Nothing extra connected to cuff 3) More forward cuff pivot freedom / less energy waste when bending forward 4) Can be used as a standard heel brake 5) Can be industrialized with a quick release frame (such as a Launch Sports skate) 6) Does not interfere with wheel size changes, wheel replacements, or wheel rotations 7) Narrow profile 8) Light weight 9) No extra wide axle bolt needed 10) Pad can extend forward closer to the rear wheel for more surface coverage and leverage. (A rear pad should be placed as close to the rear of the skate as possible). Figs. 2-9 advantage no's Fig. 10 advantage no's Fig. 11 advantage no's Figs. 12-13 advantage no's Figs. 14-15 advantage no's Figs 16-17 advantage no's

It should be realized that the figures shown do not constitute any limitation on the design of the inventions. For example changes can be made such as the addition of adjusting means, different part shapes, sizes, compositions, placement of parts, etc. Some parts may be deleted for simplicity.
