It’s important to first ‘test drive’ your next home, by Kamesha Keesee.
By Kamesha Keesee
It’s essential to know a little about your next home, but how do you know that? The traditional way is to ask a realtor about the property - where it was built, how many owners it has previously had, etc. But, that is still not enough to decide where you will live next. You have to experience what it is to really live there; you have to tour the neighborhood frequently to see if the home is viable.
There are several ways to know if a home is viable, but one thing is certain; some of the essential aspects of living in a home never show up during a simple walkthrough. You have to spend more time around, ask neighbors and passersby who live there to find out about other details. This is what is called ‘test driving your new home.’
HOW TO TEST DRIVE YOUR NEXT HOME PICTURE YOURSELF LIVING THERE
You just know that some things are yours once your eyes set upon them. It’s no different from owning a home. How do you feel when you picture yourself living in that home or neighborhood? If you feel calm and joyous it’s an indication that you love the home. If you have some reservations, you could ask your Realtor to find out the best possible way to go about it.
ASK REALTORS
Realtors are always in a good position to answer all your questions and enquiries regarding your next home. Realtors have the resources
to examine the proximity of a property, the viability of the location, and the value. Your Realtor will inform you if the home has a resale value.
You can book viewings with your Realtor and real estate agents, as they will give you pointers as to why you should or shouldn’t purchase the home. Of course, most of them will say that such a property is in the ideal location. At this juncture, you shouldn’t only accept such a statement with a grain of salt, but you should take the next step discussed below.
CARRY OUT A SURVEY YOURSELF
What better way to test drive your next home than verifying the home as well as its location yourself? Your next home should check all the boxes. It’s essential to know that most homebuyers have millennial preferences, so they will likely desire a home with many amenities and a good location.
Most people want to live in a neighborhood that’s easily accessible and has a good appeal. Great landscape, plenty of trees, amenities, are some of the things a homebuyer looks for in a neighborhood. There are chances that you would want the same thing as a homebuyer. That is why it’s essential that
ASK RESIDENTS
Residents and passersby are also in a good position to answer all your enquiries being that they already know so much about the neighborhood or location you intend to buy the property better than you. These people will help you to familiarize with the location by touring with you.
IMPORTANT FACTORS FOR BUYING YOUR NEXT HOME
Almost everyone has ‘purchasing a home’ in his/ her bucket list, whether it’s a modernized or a suburban home. Everyone wants to find that home that feels like it was specifically made for them, but searching for it can be complex. So, when looking for that dream home, consider if the home meets your needs. It should answer the following questions.
• Does it have the features you’ve always wanted? • Is it in the right location? • How spacious is the house and lot? • What is the age of the property? • Is it the style you desire?
If you can answer these questions carefully and
