Home Improvements and Modifications

Adrian Bates
Many adults insist on living in their homes for a very long time and maintaining their present lifestyle for as long as they can instead of moving into a care center and be taking in place. This is what is referred to as aging in place; most homes are not designed in a manner that supports aging as you grow older.
Doorways are suddenly too narrow, and the floors can get quite slippery; there is a need to make your home safe and convenient for seniors aging in place.
This calls for some home modifications to ensure that the home is livable and comfortable for seniors to ensure their tasks are made easier. Below are some modifications you can easily do to your homes to make it accessible and safe for seniors aging in place.
GRAB BARS
We all know how sim it is to lose a grip on things; this is why fixing grab bars are important for aging in place. With grab bars in rooms; seniors get enough support against falling accidents and assist their mobility. Installing in toilers help against the slippery surface of the bathroom and also close to the bed to help them get up easily from the bed.
EXTERIOR RAMPS
Ramps are not just for those in a wheelchair; they help eliminate the need for elders to watch their steps. Maintaining balance can be quite difficult for seniors, and ramps make it quite easier. Place a ramp outdoors in your home as well as indoors to make moving from one room to the next very easy.
INSTALL A HEAT LAMP IN THE BATHROOM
Sometimes, people take a while to get out of the bathroom and do everything they need to take care of. This is why a heat lamp is a good idea; it helps keep the bathroom warm while the elders take care of everything they want. A heat lamp is especially beneficial in the winter; it makes the bathroom very comfortable for elders.
GET A SMART HOME TECH
We all know how tech makes our life much easier; it can also help make people comfortable in their homes as they grow older. There are different smart home technology like medical alert, comms systems, alarm systems, and others. There are also smartwatches they can wear to monitor their vitals, shoe insoles, and many other techs that you can upgrade your home with.

TOUCHLESS FAUCETS
Another home modification is an upgrade to your faucet; faucets that come on without touching them are best for those with grip issues or who are in danger of arthritis. If you cannot get a lever faucet, then this is the best choice for you. Also, fix anti-scald faucets in your bathroom so that your parents don’t get scalded by unexpected hot water bursts.

ENHANCE LIGHTINGS AROUND THE HOME
Another home modification to look into is the lightings; it has become more important than bright nightlights are places in every corner of the home now more than ever. This is to assist seniors in seeing clearly at any time of the day without squinting. Adhesive tap-lights are also great for lighting up countertops and can be placed under the cabinets.
