Founder, Alvarado Construction & First Hispanic Owner of a Major League Baseball Team
This Denver tycoon defied convention to crash the gates of construction, fast food and Major League Baseball. It’s a long way from her family’s two-room adobe house without indoor plumbing. Linda Alvarado is President and Chief Executive Officer of Alvarado Construction Inc.
Beginning her career in the construction industry, Linda has faced countless acts of discrimination because of her gender and ethnicity. Linda’s projects include the Denver Broncos Sports Field at Mile High, The Phoenix and Colorado Convention Centers, The Denver Aquarium, Trinidad Correctional Facility, Bernard Valdez Hispanic Heritage Center, 37 story Hyatt Convention, Center Hotel and Lead Construction Manager and General Contractor for the extensive remodel and restoration of the Pepsi Center for the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
In 1992, she made history as the first woman to bid for ownership on the Colorado Rockies, a major league baseball team and then become the first Latina owner of this Major League Baseball Franchise. Linda is a founding member and past Chairman of the Board of the Denver Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and Presidential appointee as a Commissioner of the White House Initiative for Hispanic Excellence in Education. As a nationally recognized speaker, Linda has given numerous keynote presentations for corporations, public schools and universities. Linda has been honored as one of the “100 Most Influential Hispanics in America” by Hispanic Business Magazine. She is a recipient of the Horatio Alger Award, the Sara Lee Front Runner Award and was voted American Latino T.V. Network’s “Most Inspiring American Latino”. Her goal is to motivate young people to excel and achieve their dreams.
