Founder, Alvarado Construction & First Hispanic Owner of a Major League Baseball Team
This Denver tycoon defied convention to crash the gates of construction, fast food and Major League Baseball. It’s a long way from her family’s two-room adobe house without indoor plumbing. Linda Alvarado is President and Chief Executive Officer of Alvarado Construction Inc.
Beginning her career in the construction industry, Linda has faced countless acts of discrimination because of her gender and ethnicity. Linda’s projects include the Denver Broncos Sports Field at Mile High, The Phoenix and Colorado Convention Centers, The Denver Aquarium, Trinidad Correctional Facility, Bernard Valdez Hispanic Heritage Center, 37 story Hyatt Convention, Center Hotel and Lead Construction Manager and General Contractor for the extensive remodel and restoration of the Pepsi Center for the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
In 1992, she made history as the first woman to bid for ownership on the Colorado Rockies, a major league baseball team and then become the first Latina owner of this Major League Baseball Franchise. Linda is a founding member and past Chairman of the Board of the Denver Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and Presidential appointee as a Commissioner of the White House Initiative for Hispanic Excellence in Education. As a nationally recognized speaker, Linda has given numerous keynote presentations for corporations, public schools and universities. Linda has been honored as one of the “100 Most Influential Hispanics in America” by Hispanic Business Magazine. She is a recipient of the Horatio Alger Award, the Sara Lee Front Runner Award and was voted American Latino T.V. Network’s “Most Inspiring American Latino”. Her goal is to motivate young people to excel and achieve their dreams.

Surina Khan is CEO of Women’s Foundation California, where she leads the Foundation’s work to advance gender, racial, and economic justice.
The Foundation’s program strategy is focused on building communitybased power through investing in nonprofit organizations, training community leaders in policy advocacy, connecting key partners, and mobilizing significant financial resources. For more than three decades, Surina has been a leader in the philanthropic and nonprofit social justice sector starting with local community-based publishing in New England and then shifting to national and global work on an array of social justice issues including gender justice, LGBTQ+ rights, human rights, and democratic and civic participation. She served the social justice and philanthropic sector in a variety of ways including previous positions at the Ford Foundation, OutRight Action International, and Political Research Associates. She serves on several Boards including Funders for Reproductive Equity, Voices for Progress, CalNonprofits, and the American LGBTQ+ Museum. Her previous Board service has included Funders for LGBTQ+ Issues, Alliance for Justice, La Cocina, and the Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice. She is a recognized expert on gender, racial, and economic justice issues and is a frequent commentator on the power of women’s philanthropy.

Dr. Julianne Malveaux is an economist, author, activist, television, and radio commentator, entrepreneur, and educator. She earned her Ph.D. in economics in 1980 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her dissertation was titled "Unemployment Differential by Race and Occupation." Currently, she serves as Dean of the College of Ethnic Studies at California State University, Los Angeles. She was the 15th President of Bennett College for Women in Greensboro, North Carolina, serving from 2007 through 2012. For her distinguished service, she was named President Emerita. In her five years at the college, she was the architect of the first new construction in nearly three decades. Her footprint at Bennett includes curricular advances in global studies, entrepreneurship, leadership, and communications.

Dr. Dawnn Lewis - Founder & CEO of the A New Day Foundation (ANDF) - a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, that provides financial & programmatic support to underserved youth and community-based nonprofit organizations; President & CEO of Morning Jewel Inc. – a multi-platform production company in the areas of film, television, animation, music / music publishing, & experiential events. ANDF Programs include: The annual Focused N F.I.T. For A Different World Conference; MenTORS & SISTERS HANGOUT!, for Boys & Girls 13-19 respectively.
These programs allow the A New Day Foundation to create a safe place for teens to have difficult conversations about life & goal issues, while introducing them to new cultural opportunities and experiences. In 2021 Dawnn was inducted into the Women Songwriters Hall Of Fame in Washington, D.C., along with songwriting legends: Roberta Flack, Valerie Simpson & Naomi Judd (R.I.P), among others. Dawnn received an Honorary Doctorate in the Humanities for her more than 35 years of unwavering service and support to underserved youth and communities across the country and abroad. Claudia Botero is an Anchor-Investigative Journalist with over 26 years of experience. She is currently Press Secretary for the Speaker of the State Assembly, Anthony Rendón. During her journalistic career, she worked for Univision 34 KMEX-TV, the number one Spanish language television station in the nation.
A Peabody and ten-time Emmy Award winning journalist, Claudia was chosen in October 2013 by the White House to have a one-on-one with President Barack Obama regarding the federal government shutdown and where he exclusively outlined his plan for immigration reform. During her career, Claudia has had many exclusive interviews with local, state, and national leaders. She worked closely with now HHS Chief Xavier Becerra on special investigations on scams such as salary theft, Ponzi schemes, and most recently the mistreatment and lack of protection during Covid-19 for Amazon workers. She also worked with U.S. Senator Alex Padilla to inform the Latino community on their voting rights and the importance of participating in the 2020 Census.
