Editors Notes Welcome to this special edition of the 100 Black Men of the Inland Empire magazine. It is with both pride and humility that we present to you stories of our work, our mission, and the community we are privileged to serve. Since our founding, we have stood firmly on a single guiding belief: what they see is what they will be. For nearly a decade, this philosophy has shaped everything we do, driving us to mentor young people, advocate for families, and build stronger, healthier communities across the Inland Empire.

This year carries added meaning for us as we prepare to host our 9th Annual Gala. This event is far more than an evening of elegance and celebration. It is a moment of recommitment, a time when community leaders, mentors, partners, and supporters gather to reflect on the progress made and to pledge ourselves once again to the journey ahead. The Gala is essential in sustaining our mission—helping us provide scholarships, fund health and wellness initiatives, expand mentoring opportunities, and continue to uplift families throughout Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Our mentoring programs continue to provide guidance to boys and girls between the ages of eight and eighteen, helping them grow socially, emotionally, and academically. Through education-focused programs, including Saturday academies, enrichment activities, and college readiness initiatives, we help young people expand their horizons and prepare for the opportunities that lie ahead.

We are equally committed to economic empowerment, ensuring that families and youth gain the financial literacy, entrepreneurship skills, and resources needed to build stability and long-term success. Alongside this, our focus on health and wellness recognizes that true empowerment goes beyond academics—it must include physical health, mental health, and access to holistic care.

But our work extends beyond programs. It is about presence. It is about showing up in neighborhoods across Fontana, Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario, Riverside, San Bernardino, Corona, Moreno Valley, Perris, and beyond. It is about being visible role models, mentors, and advocates who make it clear that our youth are not alone, that their lives matter, and that their future is worth fighting for.

The Gala is a reflection of all this work. It is the one evening each year when our community comes together to celebrate victories and recommit to the mission of shaping brighter futures. This year’s celebration also allows us to honor outstanding leaders whose contributions inspire us all. Yet at its core, the Gala is about our young people. It is about ensuring that a child has a mentor to guide them, a student has a scholarship to pursue their dreams, and a family has access to the resources they need to thrive.

Every so often, a leader emerges whose life and work embody the true meaning of service. In the Inland Empire, that leader is Alonzo Duncan III. Known for his compassion, discipline, and unshakable commitment to uplifting others, Duncan has spent decades building safer

championing opportunities for second chances. This month, he is highlighted for his role as the organizer of the 9th Annual Gala for the 100 Black Men of Inland Empire, a signature event that raises resources and awareness

Background and Early Career Alonzo Duncan III’s career was shaped by both education and lived experience. He pursued an Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice at Chaffey College, a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Phoenix, and a Master of Science in Administration of Justice/Homeland Security from the University of Phoenix. These academic achievements provided the foundation for his 29-year career in law enforcement.

He began with the California Department of Corrections, Division of Adult Parole Operations, working as a Correctional Officer before advancing to the role of Parole Agent I. For nearly three decades, Duncan dedicated himself to public safety and rehabilitation, working directly with individuals transitioning from incarceration back into society. His work often meant being a bridge between the justice system and communities, ensuring accountability while also advocating for second chances.

These early years defined his worldview: that transformation is possible, and that mentorship and opportunity can change lives. It was this belief that later guided his pivot into broader community service and leadership roles.
