Biography of Eric Schnabel

Eric Schnabel has spent his life demonstrating service, discipline, and leadership across military, government, and community roles With a consistent focus on duty and responsibility, he has served for decades in uniform and continues to contribute to national security. Forging a Military Career

Eric began his military service in 1995 by enlisting in the U S Army Taking on the role of infantryman, he showed determination from the outset and went on to earn his commission through the Virginia Military Institute

As a Mustang officer, he brought a unique perspective from both enlisted and officer ranks. His qualifications included extensive airborne training and completion of Ranger School, which prepared him for six combat deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Persian Gulf.

Eric later served as a paratrooper in both the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions With over ten years of jump status, he earned Master Rated Airborne Wings, completing 82 jumps in total.

Leadership in Combat and Unit Operations

As his responsibilities increased, he led ground troops during Operation Iraqi Freedom and on several missions in Afghanistan. His leadership involved capturing enemy forces, coordinating unit movements, and navigating extended periods of conflict

In the 82nd Airborne Division, he held key roles including Battalion Operations Officer and Executive Officer He managed operations for a unit of 830 personnel and later supported leadership for a 770-person parachute infantry battalion His effective leadership in logistics, aviation support, training, and planning earned him multiple Bronze Stars.

A Strategic Influence at the Pentagon

Eric gradually transitioned into roles involving policy and joint military strategy His assignments placed him with the Office of the Secretary of Defense Staff, the Joint Staff, and the Army Staff, where he worked directly with senior defense officials

In one role, he served as Deputy Director and Chief of the Assessments Branch on the Joint Staff, where he directed concept development and conducted assessments across military branches and commands He also contributed to strategic planning with the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, coordinating both operational and technology-driven efforts for national defense

A notable assignment included serving as Director of Joint Integration within the Office of the Secretary of Defense In this position, he supported the Close Combat Lethality Task Force, working alongside the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Special Operations Command, and others to strengthen close combat operations He was also active in efforts to secure funding for research, training, and equipment

Transition to Civilian Leadership

After more than 25 years of military service and retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, he entered the private and public sectors with the same focus and drive. He moved into business development roles with organizations that supported the Department of Defense, Homeland Security, and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Drawing on his experience with complex organizational structures, he helped build partnerships, supported competitive business pursuits, and expanded market opportunities. His approach remained consistent with the standards of discipline and structure that defined his military service

Commitment Beyond Profession

Outside his professional work, he remained active in community and volunteer roles. He served for 15 years with the Knights of Columbus and held a leadership position at the Army-Navy Country Club. He also took on the role of HOA President in his neighborhood.

He went on to serve on the Board of Governors and as President of the club’s nonprofit foundation, where he worked to preserve military heritage and support staff and educational programs

He was also instrumental in establishing the Medal of Honor Library, a resource dedicated to sharing the stories of recipients and honoring military tradition
