Enjoy Local Music Live

A free celebration of music and the arts will be the focus of a two-day festival-style event for all the family at Erewash Museum this month.

The Soul and Flair ‘Local Music Live’ event takes place on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 March and will turn the spotlight on local talent, with the lineup including performances by local bands, choirs and theatre groups. The event is being staged thanks to a grant from the government’s Welcome Back Fund, a national initiative funded through the European Regional Development Fund aimed at projects to support the safe return to high streets after the pandemic challenges.

Friday’s programme will run from 10.30am-5.30pm, with artist led workshops for pre-school age children in the morning followed by afternoon activities for school age youngsters. There will also be small break out shows with folk and cultural music for adults.

Saturday is the main event running from 10.30am-7.30pm with bands, choirs, musical theatre groups and acts from all around the local area. Local food charity Everyone Eats is attending and offering free lunch bags, filled with food sourced from shops in Ilkeston. Independent shops and charities will also be promoting their work.

Coronavirus restrictions meant the museum – which is just off Ilkeston Market Place - was closed for long periods of time and Local Music Live is a way of continuing the work of welcoming back visitors to its activities and to the town centre.

The free garden waste collections have now resumed across the borough after the usual temporary suspension over the winter.

Councillor Garry Hickton, Lead Member for Environment, says: “Spring is round the corner and gardeners are already out there clearing the debris of winter and taking full advantage of our free brown bin collections.”

CVS Grant Scheme

Community groups and not-for-profit organisations in need of a cash boost are being encouraged to apply for up to £1,500 of funding from the Erewash Small Grant Scheme.

The scheme, run in conjunction with Erewash Voluntary Action, is funded by Erewash Borough Council, Derbyshire County Council Public Health and Derbyshire County Council Adult Care Services.

It has three priority themes - health inequalities; community wellness, and building resilience - and applicants must meet at least one of the themes to be eligible to apply.
