Challenging Social Injustice and Building Peaceful Society The Archbishop Desmond Tutu £10m Endowment Appeal

The Tutu Foundation are seeking to raise £10 million to undertake three strategic pieces of work. The aim, to uphold the name and legacy of Archbishop Desmond Tutu in the UK, an ongoing living tribute upholding causes that he has been committed to.

The Desmond Tutu Chair in Religion, Reconciliation and Peacebuilding at King’s College London.

The endowment will generate an estimated annual income of over £200,000 allowing King’s College London to appoint a Chair of Religion, Reconciliation and Peacebuilding.

The endowment will give a certainty to the role, establishing it in perpetuity.

The Tutu Foundation will ensure that any lead donor giving a seven-figure sum, will be invited to join the universities philanthropists forum in order to network with likeminded donors. All donors to the appeal would be invited to address the inaugural lecture of the Chair in Religion, Reconciliation and Peace Building.

Our work doesn’t cost too much. Some time, thought, imagination and some cups of tea. Most of all it takes courage. Courage to think there could be a better way.

The Tutu Foundation Reconciliation Endowment We exist to prevent & resolve conflict. We help build peaceful communities across the UK using the principles of Ubuntu.

This Endowment will be used to underpin the work of the Tutu Foundation UK by establishing the office of a Chief Executive to advance our objectives and programmes.

• To be a significant community change enabler and a recognised authority on harmonious living by 2030 by helping people build peaceful communities.

• To use conflict resolution to help communities become more cohesive through a national programme of Round Tables and Mediation Services.

Promote Peace and Human Rights The Annual Desmond Tutu Peace Lecture The Peace Lecture will be used to promote our vision for peace placing an emphasis on respecting the Human Rights of oppressed communities. We will throw light on specific problems, influencing powerful individuals and public and private sector organisations to bring about change in our communities.

Build Cohesive Communities Mediation Training Academy Ubuntu Roundtable Workshops We will promote Ubuntu as a way of living and working together in local communities.

Our mission of healing communities and bringing people together has rarely been more relevant. Our proven track record in mediation training and Ubuntu roundtables are examples of our work. The Tutu Foundation UK believes that divided communities can be united through facilitated conversation.

The Tutu Foundation UK Mediation Team will continue to work with The Prison Service of Northern Ireland to promote peace and reconciliation into the community.

We will roll out a national programme of Ubuntu Roundtable Workshops starting in London in collaboration with The Metropolitan Police and locally based youth organisations. The Roundtables will aim to address knife and other crimes.

Endowment funding will enhance the capacity of our team, strengthening our core organisational competencies and sustaining our work and mission in perpetuity.
