WENDELL'S MESSAGE When I arrived, I was expecting it to be nice and cool inside. That was not the case. It was 90F outside and 90F inside the caves. I think they must have drawn in fresh air from outside, and that is why it was so hot. Backing into the receiving door took longer than it should have. You have to back around a concave pillar and watch out not to scrape the top rail of the trailer. When I finally got in the door, I asked the receiver if I set a record for the longest time to back in…he said I was right up there with the longest. I used the GOAL (Get Out And Look) technique a couple of times, carefully navigating the jagged rock walls to avoid damaging my bumper. Unloading went faster than the time it took to back into the dock, and soon I was on my way to

WENDELL ERB Chief Executive Officer

Tales from the road Earlier this summer, I noticed a few open days in my schedule, so I checked the dispatch system and assigned myself a delivery to Lenexa, Kansas, scheduled for July 6. The Friday before, I was dropping off our antique truck, number 381, at the Clifford Truck Show when Jeff O’Neil, one of our drivers, mentioned that my delivery would be in the caves. Suddenly, it made sense why Google Maps only showed an empty parking lot with no buildings. I was looking forward to the new experience!

pick up a backhaul in Topeka. Because we were just coming off the US Independence Day long weekend, my next load wasn’t ready on Monday. It wasn’t until Tuesday afternoon that I finally headed home. On my return trip, I traveled through the agricultural heartland of Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana. Back home, our corn had just grown above knee-high, and the wheat was just beginning to turn. In Missouri, corn was already tasseling, and wheat was being harvested. In some cases, it looked like a second crop was going in right after. It was fascinating to compare the progress of their crops with ours. As for the highways: Michigan and Indiana were rough; Illinois was excellent; Missouri was under construction; and Kansas was good, though a toll road. Interestingly, the roads in the eastern US seem much better than they were 30 years ago. For this round trip, I earned $4.72 per mile with only 2.9% empty miles. That should bring a smile to our Vice President of Truckload, Kevin Erb.

demands for lower prices. One of my thoughts of a small contribution to keeping our trucks loaded is to buy the goods our trucks haul. My wife, Cheryl, takes pride in being a savvy grocery shopper. My advice to her is to buy X product from X store because Erb will have hauled it. Although these items can sometimes be more expensive, the value, like our service, extends beyond the price tag. Every time we purchase a grocery item, it needs to be restocked, supporting our business. But when we buy a competitor’s product, it’s their trucks that get the work. It

Over the decades, trucking recessions and good markets have usually moved in 12- to 18-month cycles. Coming off COVID, it turned out to be our best market in history. Since the downturn, we have had 30-plus months of a trucking recession that cannot be sustained, which is why you see so many carriers exiting the industry. Erb has done a great job right-sizing our fleet, controlling our costs, and managing our debt. We are on the cusp of some very good times in the near future. Hold tight: the ride is about to get fun again!

may seem minor, but with a team of over 1,300 people, our choices could make a small difference. Something happened in February, and our phones started ringing with inquiries about cross-border availability. Bids we had lost in November because our rate was too high were now back in play. Through March, April, and May it has continued. Lately, it has plateaued a little, but compared to the 30 months prior, demand for our services is much better. In the dark days, empty trucks in the USA had very little choice on backhauls. The spot market rates were laughable, yet trucks were hauling them, including ourselves at times. Our own client loads had decent rates, but sometimes we had to run hundreds of miles to pick them up, which negates the profitability on the round trip. Since February, we have seen a continuous increase in our per-mile rate and a decline in our empty-mile percentage. The interesting aspect of the improvement is that the economy is not doing any better. In fact, Canada is in a recession. The increased demand for our services is a result of capacity constraints among carriers.

How to Save Thousands in New Home Rebates Whether you are planning to purchase your first home, renovate, move into a newly constructed home, or help a family member understand their options, it is important to understand what rebates may be available to assist with affordability. Recent government housing rebate enhancements could mean significant savings. Both the federal and Ontario provincial governments have introduced measures designed to reduce the tax burden on eligible buyers of newly built homes.

Federal First-Time Homebuyers (FTHB) GST Rebate Eligible first-time homebuyers may now qualify for a rebate of up to 100% of the GST (or federal portion of HST) on newly built homes valued up to $1 million, or a partial rebate for homes valued between $1M to $1.5M. Ontario Enhanced New Housing Rebate (ENHR) Ontario has also enhanced its new housing rebate program. Eligible buyers of newly constructed homes may be able to recover a portion (up to $80,000) of the provincial HST. As with all government programs, eligibility requirements and conditions apply. NEW HAMBURG — HEAD OFFICE Warm summer greetings from New Hamburg!

Gilles Lamothe retirement celebration

As the season brings opportunities to enjoy the sunshine and spend time with family and friends, we also recognize that recent wildfire conditions and smoke warnings across the country have created challenges for many communities, including some of our team members. Our thoughts are with everyone impacted, and we hope for safer conditions in the days ahead. It has been a busy and exciting few months at Head Office, filled with celebrations, milestones, community involvement, and many meaningful moments that have brought our teams together. In March, we celebrated another successful Erb Excellence Night! A huge thank you goes out to our Corporate Committee for their dedication and flawless execution in bringing this event together. We also want to recognize our Terminal Employee Excellence Night teams for their hard work, planning, and commitment to making each individual celebration a success. These events are a great reminder of the incredible people who make Erb what it is. Preparations are underway for our 33rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament! The tournament supports three local charities that provide essential services throughout the Waterloo Region

and Wilmot community. We are grateful for the continued support of our employees, partners, and sponsors who help make this event possible year after year. We are also looking forward to another year supporting the Stratford 5K in support of the Local Community Food Centre. This year marks an exciting milestone as Erb celebrates our fifth year as the event’s presenting sponsor. The event helps provide nutritious food and support to individuals and families in our local community, and we are proud to continue being part of this important cause. 20 | Erban Report — Summer 2026

TERMINAL UPDATES

Helen Chau - bridal shower

In June, Altruck International hosted their annual Erb Appreciation BBQ at our Baden facility. We are incredibly grateful for their continued partnership, hospitality, and support. Events like these are a great opportunity to connect, celebrate our relationship, and recognize the strong partnerships that help us succeed. New Hamburg has celebrated many special moments with our team over the past few months. Congratulations to Sarah Arnold and her husband, Dan, on welcoming their beautiful daughter, Lydia May, born on April 2nd. She is already being spoiled by her two older sisters! Congratulations also to Helen Chau, who married Benson on May 31st. The Credit team celebrated this exciting milestone with a memorable bridal shower leading up to the big day. This spring also marked some incredible service milestones: •

Diane Heyer (IT) celebrates 40 years with Erb in August.

•

Alex Egarhazi (IT) celebrated 30 years in March.

•

Wendy Albrecht (Credit) celebrated 30 years in July.

Together, that represents 100 years of experience and dedication to Erb. Thank you for your hard work, commitment, and the positive impact you continue to have within our Head Office team. We also celebrated the retirements of Gilles Lamonthe (Driver Settlements) and Natalie Tallion (Credit Department). Thank you both for your many contributions to Erb. We wish you all the best as you begin this exciting new chapter. As summer continues, we hope everyone takes time to relax, recharge, and create special memories with family and friends. We look forward to connecting with our local facilities at the upcoming Employee Appreciation BBQs and celebrating another great season together. Altruck Appreciation BBQ

MONTREAL TERMINAL Natalie Taillon - retirement celebration

This season has been filled with many opportunities to recognize achievements, celebrate milestones, and strengthen the teamwork that drives the Montreal Terminal's success. One of the highlights of the year was Erb Excellence Night, where we came together to celebrate our team’s outstanding efforts, accomplishments, and dedication throughout 2025. We changed things up by hosting the event at a local bowling alley, where plenty of laughs, Marcel Zerbone - 1 year milestone recognition with Denis Mercier

friendly competition, and team building made for a great time. It was inspiring to see so many individuals and teams recognized for their contributions and the positive impact they continue to make on our operations each day. We also had the privilege of celebrating several significant work anniversaries. Reaching milestones of 5, 10, 20, and even 40 years of service is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the loyalty, experience, and commitment of our employees. Congratulations to everyone, including Chris Lake, Tracy Hannah, Bill Breese, Penny Gill, and Marcel Zerbone, to name a few! Each work anniversary is a testament to the people who have helped build Erb into what it is today. Their dedication and daily contributions continue to strengthen our culture and shape who we are as a terminal and a company as a whole. Throughout 2026, the Montreal Terminal has continued to face challenges with resilience and grit. Whether managing operational demands, adapting to changing circumstances,

Erb On the Go - Carlos Flores

While we remain focused on delivering excellent service, we also recognize the importance of maintaining an enjoyable workplace for our team. Beyond the day-to-day work, we've continued to make time to celebrate successes, have fun together, and strengthen the connections within our team. This season, we welcomed back our Employee Relations Partner, Veronica Skelton, from maternity leave, celebrated Dave Lalonde’s 60th birthday, and wished our beloved Credit Representative, Natalie Taillon, a happy retirement. These moments help strengthen our team camaraderie and remind us that our people are at the heart of everything we do. One of the next highlights on the calendar is our Employee BBQ! TORONTO TERMINAL Hello from Mississauga and Cardiff!

Alex Ha - Rookie Driver of the Year 2025

Hello from Mississauga and Cardiff! There’s a lot happening across our teams as we head into the summer months. While the year started off slower with lower volumes, we’re happy to see things pick up and momentum build. We began our Walmart cross-docking operations at the Cardiff location in mid-May, starting with the Mississauga Walmart distribution centre. In the coming weeks, we’ll be expanding volumes to include shipments for the Walmart Cornwall distribution centre. Erb was also awarded the transportation for both facilities, further strengthening our partnership. Once operations are fully stabilized, we’ll begin loading containers for western distribution centres in British Columbia and Alberta, followed by loading trailers for the Walmart Moncton distribution centre. When fully launched, this initiative will bring significant additional pickup volumes to the Mississauga, Montreal, and Baden Terminals, as well as expanded transportation opportunities for Ontario distribution centers. In addition, we were recently awarded a large program with Phoenicia, which now services Ontario stores from the Montreal distribution centre. This has given our local deliveries a much-needed boost in volumes! Looking back to March, we had another fantastic turnout for Erb Excellence Night, our annual employee appreciation event. Our VP of IT, Darryn Nafziger, represented the corporate team and did a wonderful job delivering the leadership message. Elyas Basha - 25 year milestone recognition with Tracy Quinn & Randy Steckly

above and beyond, creating a memorable evening with a great theme, engaging games, prizes, thoughtful setup, and excellent presentations. We also hosted a 50/50 raffle, raising $1,300 for our local food bank. For months, we had been discussing and planning how we would handle the FIFA tournament in the downtown core and how it would impact our operations and service to clients. There were numerous rumours and online posts that raised concerns about our ability to deliver downtown as usual. Now that the tournament has ended, we're proud to say it was mostly without incident. None of the problems we thought we’d face ever appeared, and in fact, there was very little disruption to our business.

While Canada’s run may be over, the excitement and national pride across our terminals have been on full display. It’s been great seeing everyone come together to support the home team and share in the tournament spirit. to both families during this exciting time.

Even so, our work with Lactalis remained a steady part of our operations, with both local and linehaul teams consistently moving loads to the Mississauga and Baden terminals. This helped maintain a reliable volume of daily shipments while reducing empty miles. To maximize equipment uptime, our tractors are being slip-seated more regularly, with more than 50 per cent of the local fleet now shared between drivers. Alongside this, we have been focusing on cross-training our operations staff to build a stronger understanding of each other’s roles and responsibilities. Together, these efforts allow us to make more informed decisions, better support one another, and positively impact our overall operations. The first half of the year also brought its share of challenges, as many of our employees experienced personal loss. During these difficult moments, I want to thank everyone who supported one another, including Dan from Transport for Christ, who provided care and guidance to those who needed it.

Trenton Yard - Dave Matthie

While the year has brought both challenges and change, it has also given us many reasons to celebrate. David Bright celebrated 20 years with Erb, while Erin Schwager and Jamie Coe marked 25 years of service, and Keith Noble proudly celebrated an incredible 40 years. These milestones are a testament to the dedication and commitment of our team members. We also want to recognize the many employees who reached 5, 10, and 15-year milestones throughout the year. Congratulations to all, and we wish each of you the very best in the year ahead.

with a team appreciation BBQ to celebrate our people, show gratitude, and recognize the teamwork that keeps us moving. The event ran from 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., ensuring every shift had the opportunity to take part, and featured food and raffle prizes generously donated by employees, local businesses, and community partners. Community involvement has remained an important part of life at the Trenton Terminal. Over the past several months, our team has proudly supported a number of local initiatives, reinforcing our commitment to giving back to the community we serve. In February, we participated in the Coldest Night of the Year in support of the Care and Share Food Bank, raising nearly $900 to help local families in need. So far this year, we have donated more than 3,000 pounds of food, generously provided by our customers, helping ensure surplus products reach those who need them most. As the community event season got underway, we continued to lend our support in other ways. During the first weekend of June, we provided a refrigerated trailer for the Great Canadian Cheese Festival, helping vendors safely store their products throughout the event. We are proud to play a small part in making a positive impact beyond our terminal. Thank you to the entire Trenton team for your continued hard work, dedication, and support for one another. We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished together and look forward to what’s ahead.

THE BEAUTY IS IN THE JOURNEY: Volodymyr Boyko’s Story From Ukraine to Canada The journey to becoming a professional driver is not always easy, but for those who choose this path, it can be incredibly rewarding. For long-haul driver, Volodymyr Boyko, the journey to a new life and career began with a courageous decision: leaving Ukraine for Canada and embracing the opportunities ahead. After years of working behind the scenes in the food manufacturing industry, at a meat factory, milk factory and later as a mechanic, Volodymyr began a new chapter in early 2017, taking to the road and building a career that would help bring food from producers to families’ tables. His path was defined by perseverance, hard work, and determination. A longtime enthusiast of the open road, he says "I have always loved driving. I get to sightsee, and explore different places "for me this is fun,” he said.

OUR COOLEST DELIVERY YET How Erb Helped Bring Drake’s ICEMAN Installation to Life Did you hear about our latest big project in Toronto? In April, our team supported a unique production tied to the launch of ICEMAN, the latest album from Toronto-born global music star, Drake, highlighting that refrigerated logistics doesn’t just help transport food products; it also helps deliver bold ideas.

42 | Erban Report — Summer 2026

When Toronto-based marketing agency MAWG needed a transportation partner to move and maintain large volumes of ice for a time-sensitive public installation, our team jumped into action. The installation used massive ice blocks to reveal the release date of Drake's highly anticipated ICEMAN album, creating an eye-catching display that drew attention from fans across Toronto and beyond. But while thousands of people saw the finished installation, few saw what it took to make it happen. Over the course of the project, Erb transported more than 430,000 pounds of ice from Ice Culture, a Huron Countybased company specializing in creative ice sculptures and installations, to downtown Toronto. THE VIEW FROM THE DRIVER’S SEAT A Reflection Before Retirement Roger Zehr – DZ International Driver

When I first started on the dock in January 1976,

Because I enjoyed the job so much, deciding to retire

wasn't easy. But I'm reminded of Ecclesiastes 3:1,

Being a driver was anything but boring or routine for me. Every day brought new places, different people, changing weather, and a mix of deliveries, pickups, and traffic. These variations kept my mind quite active. I never knew what to expect, which kept me on my toes! It always felt like I had just left with a load, and before I knew it, I was back home again, despite being gone for a 14-hour local run or several days on a longdistance trip. The years accumulated behind me faster than I ever expected. I just kept showing up each day, doing my work, and before long, retirement was knocking at my door.

everything under the sun. My retirement marks the beginning of a new season, one that allows someone else to experience the rewarding work of "bringing food to families' tables." A career in trucking comes with unique challenges, especially when it means spending time away from home. Irregular schedules can make it difficult to be present for family routines and special occasions. Milestones like marriage, raising children, graduations, caring for aging parents, and keeping up with responsibilities at home all require careful balance. Successfully weaving these moments into the demands of life on the road isn’t always easy, but

I truly enjoyed the work we do as drivers at Erb.

and pickups, enjoying the scenery along the way, and then heading home brought a real sense of accomplishment. There was nothing quite like finishing a good day's work!

Over the past 50 years, the trucking industry has changed tremendously. Improvements like air ride suspension, air conditioning, power windows, GPS, and cell phones made life on the road safer, more comfortable, and more connected for drivers than ever before.

While the industry evolved, so did my life. One of the most significant moments came when I accepted God's gift of salvation and began a personal relationship with Him; a decision that changed my life forever. Another was meeting and marrying the love of my life. After years of long-distance driving, I'm looking forward to spending every day together instead of just a day or two each week. Looking back, I truly believe I had the best career anyone could ask for. It was a privilege to spend it at Erb alongside so many dedicated and supportive people. Thank you to everyone who was part of the journey. As I retire, I carry these memories with me and I wish each of you a fulfilling career, no matter where the road takes you!
