Back to School

We are pleased to say that we have just passed the end of our 16th company year in business.

To mark this achievement, we held an ‘out of office’ team event on Friday, 2 September.

The team were asked to either choose ‘Pamper’ or ‘Power’ as part of their team event, which included go-karting or a morning at a Spa in central Manchester. This was followed by an annual presentation celebrating our success over the past year. As you can imagine there were still a few sore heads on Monday morning!

Improving their knowledge and maintaining professional development are key to our already well qualified troops!

Congratulations to the following staff for accumulating over 20 exam passes this year: Jason Lowe, Simon Owen, Rob Ellis, Andy Baker, Mark Hird, Gareth Jameson, Catherine Snailham, Claire Haywood, Rebecca Johnson-Townley, Nilesh Patel and Tarryn Gorman.

Equilibrium Foundation

New to the Team

As our valued clients, we want to update you on our latest initiative.

Here at Equilibrium we think it’s important to give back, given the fortunate position we’re in.

The EQ work team is ever growing, as well as the families of that team!

Welcome to:

We have now launched the Equilibrium Foundation by laying down the gauntlet to raise a quarter of a million pounds for charity by the end of 2020 – that is £25,000 each year for the next decade!

Every year, we will be going beyond our comfort zones by completing challenges to test our bravery and endurance in the name of charity!

For example, Rob Ellis donned his trainers and took part in the Great Manchester Run in May. On 20th June, John Mortimer and Colin Lawson embarked on an epic coast-to-coast bike ride, notching up 150 miles in three days.

60 seconds with….Andy Baker!

Andy has been working with us since 2009 as an Investment Analyst, but has now found a new direction in becoming an Advisor to the children of our clients as part of our full intergenerational service.

What’s the best thing about working for Equilibrium?

That you can (and are encouraged to) have a real influence on the business.

It means that everyone that works here is enthusiastic, takes ownership and has a sense of pride in the company.

Tell us a bit about your background/how long have you been acting as an Investment Analyst?

I started at Equilibrium in November 2009 before which I worked in custody banking for 3 years, managing institutional clients. My first job was for a commodities broker.

How would you define your approach to financial planning?

Common sense and jargon free.

And finally, tell us something we don’t know about you!

I once had a screen test to be a presenter for cable TV channel, TV travel shop.

Our flexible benefits package allows any member of the team to a sabbatical after 5 years of working with Equilibrium.

Client Manager Barney Kilroy is an excellent example of this as he chose to travel to Thailand and Vietnam for six weeks during the summer after being with the company since 2005.

As he says in his own words, ‘the sabbatical has given me the opportunity to do some travelling, without the pressure of planning time as you would in a holiday.
