MUMBLES, a rather nice village, despite its name,
right on the edge of the sea’ DYLAN THOMAS Although I have lived in Mumbles for nearly 30 years, every time I walk down Newton Road and see the sea, I still get the feeling that I’m on holiday. It’s not just the seaside location that makes this a very special place. It has a history, It has its own identity. The pretty fishermen’s cottages that cling to the limestone cliffs might look like they were put there simply to impress the tourists but they were there long before people arrived with buckets and spades. It’s not the restaurants and cafes that make Mumbles stand out although they have given me copious amounts of pleasure and calories for many years. It’s not the gift shops and boutiques that still entice me every time I pop to the shops to buy a pint of milk or a newspaper. What makes Mumbles is the people. It might be a small village but this Summer Festival shows it has ambition, an ambition to throw a big party to which you and all of your friends are invited. I’ll see you there.
