EPISCOPAL’S WEEKLY SCHEDULE
With our schedule for the 2025-26 school year, every class meets three times each week, and the mid-day flex block creates unique learning opportunities for classes to authentically incorporate the resources of Washington, D.C. With all-school gatherings at two seated meals, three Chapel services, and Community Gathering, as well as advisory and class meetings throughout the week, we foster the sense of community and the close relationships that are at the core of the Episcopal experience. Formal office hours are also held three times each week to ensure students have access to one-on-one and small group support from each of their teachers.

All student-athletes will be expected to meet their commitments to their teams on the important dates listed below. Throughout the year, students with personal conflicts with athletic obligations are expected to discuss the conflict with the Dean of Students as far in advance as possible. Transportation
SCHOOL-SPONSORED SHUTTLES
For the three major vacations during the year — Thanksgiving, Winter Break, and Spring Break — Episcopal High School provides group transportation for students to local airports and train stations via school-sponsored, facultydriven shuttles. The School’s transportation service is designed to support as many students as possible rather than individual needs.
Episcopal High School does not provide individual rides to or from the airport or train station, either for the three major breaks or on any weekend during the school year. Information on the schoolsponsored shuttles and other suggested modes of transportation can be found below.

DEPARTING SHUTTLES
Episcopal High School runs group shuttles for students, free of charge, to DCA Reagan Airport, IAD Dulles Airport, and Washington Union Station on the day that each break begins. The exact shuttle schedules will be communicated to all students and posted in the EHS Weekly about three weeks prior to the start of each major school break. Students will receive a sign-up form for these shuttles and must sign up to secure their spot. If there are no students signed up for a certain shuttle through the form, the shuttle will not run.
RETURNING SHUTTLES
Episcopal High School runs group shuttles for students free of charge from DCA Reagan Airport, IAD Dulles Airport, and Washington Union Station at 6:00 p.m. on the required day of return from each break. Students who wish to utilize this service must sign up through the form sent out before the break. If there are no students signed up for a certain shuttle through the form, it will not run. A few days before the return, the students will be connected with the faculty shuttle driver to confirm an exact meeting location and exchange contact information. Important: All students must arrive on campus before their 8:00 p.m. sign-in on dorm, unless required to return earlier for their afternoon option.

REQUESTS TO MISS SCHOOL COMMITMENTS
We ask that students and families plan all vacation and weekend departures to ensure that all School commitments are met. In special circumstances — such as family weddings, graduations, and similar occasions — the School will excuse a student from commitments. Students requesting to be excused for early departures, late returns, or missed commitments should see Dean of Students Wendy Kridel at least two weeks prior to the anticipated absence and prior to purchasing airline or train tickets. As a 100% residential school, we strive to find the balance between students spending weekends on and off campus; we believe that a healthy balance sets our students up to both feel connected to our community and to their lives outside of school.

Vacation Travel
TRAVEL FOR UNACCOMPANIED MINORS
When booking travel arrangements for younger students, please be aware that students traveling alone by train or plane may need to travel as an “unaccompanied minor.” This policy stipulates that if your student is under a specific age — 16 for Amtrak and 15 for most major airlines — they must be taken to and/or picked up from the train station or airport by a pre-specified adult. If your student must travel as an unaccompanied minor and you require chaperoning assistance from an EHS faculty member, Episcopal asks that you review Amtrak’s or the airline’s policy, share your student’s itinerary with the School, and request the chaperone at least two weeks prior to the anticipated departure or arrival. You can direct requests and questions to Jeannie White, director of activities, transportation, and signature program logistics, at jbw@episcopalhighschool.org.
The School may be able to accommodate requests for unaccompanied minor chaperones, but our ability to meet requests depends on the timeliness of the request, the volume of demand, and chaperone/driver availability. If an unaccompanied minor chaperone is confirmed and scheduled, please note that this service includes a fee*, which will be added to the parent/guardian monthly statement from the Business Office. Occasionally additional fees apply for late requests or odd travel hours but, in general, the fees for unaccompanied minor requests are as follows:
• $125 one-way to/from Reagan National Airport (DCA)

• $70 one-way transit to/from Alexandria Station

EXTRACURRICULAR REVIEW COMMITTEE (ECRC)
As a 100% residential school, we are excited about and committed to all of our students participating in our robust academic and co-curricular programs here on campus. At the same time, we recognize that many of our students are interested in pursuing their passions beyond the gates of our campus, and we are eager to support them in doing so in ways that align with our mission and core values. The Extracurricular Review Committee (ECRC) is a group of administrators who reviews these requests from students. Weekend ACTIVITIES
FUN ON + OFF THE HILL
Weekends at EHS are never dull! Students have options galore that may include trips to the Kennedy Center, the National Theatre, the Smithsonian, the National Zoo, Georgetown shopping district, Washington Nationals and Capitals games, Pentagon City and Tysons Corner shopping malls, Kings Dominion amusement park, movies, restaurants, and outdoor activities and excursions, such as skiing and ice skating. In addition, many oncampus activities organized by student groups as well as the activities faculty provide time to kick back and relax, learn about new cultures, make ice cream sundaes, and so much more!
(Note: while the majority are provided by EHS, a few off-campus activities require a fee.)
Health SERVICES
deBUTTS HEALTH & WELLNESS CENTER
The deButts Health & Wellness Center includes a medical clinic, medication dispensary, and overnight infirmary where students are assessed and treated by our team of registered nurses who work under the direction of our Medical Director and Director of Health Services, and staff the facility 24 hours a day, seven days a week when school is in session. The Health & Wellness Center functions much like an urgent care clinic and no appointment is necessary to be seen by a nurse. A few important reminders about using the EHS Health & Wellness Center:
• The Health & Wellness Center staff will care for students’ health needs while here on campus, but all students are encouraged to maintain primary health care through a home provider for annual care and management of ongoing or chronic health issues.
• Parents and students are encouraged to alert the Health & Wellness Center at first sign of illness or health concern in a student.
• Students who are ill or injured while home on weekends or breaks should not return to campus until communication with a school nurse has taken place.
• To excuse your child from school due to sickness or for medical appointment, notification should be made to the Health & Wellness Center.
• Off-campus health appointments can be coordinated through the Health & Wellness Center or should
be communicated to the Health & Wellness Center if coordinated by the parent/guardian.
• EHS has an extensive and strict medication policy that, in part, requires most prescription medications to be procured by and dispensed from the Center. Full information including procedures for how to submit prescriptions is found in your child’s Magnus Health Record through the Parent Portal of the School website.
• Students requiring daily medications will have the dispensing procedure reviewed with them. Students are strongly encouraged to assume responsibility for taking daily medications. An ongoing report of student compliance is available for parents upon request. Note: medications will not be dispensed to students for use while home or off campus during non-School-sponsored activities such as weekends and breaks; families should make arrangements to maintain a medication supply at home.
J.W. COUCH COUNSELING CENTER
Located in the deButts Health & Wellness Center, the J.W. Couch Counseling Center is home to Episcopal’s counseling department. Counselors are available during the school day for short-term, solutionfocused sessions that explore obstacles to personal and academic growth in a proactive way. School counselors Kristin Hosmer, Joey Halm, and Natasha Kollaros encourage new students to seek support as they make their transition to boarding school life. Conversations often revolve around being away from home, making new friends, living with a roommate, and
navigating new academic expectations. There is also a counselor on call who can be reached through the Health & Wellness Center for students in need of emergency care after hours.
Families can contact Director of Counseling Kristin Hosmer at kmh@ episcopalhighschool.org to discuss concerns, schedule an appointment for their student, or make arrangements for referral to local off-campus providers if a student is in need of ongoing therapy beyond four to six sessions.
ATHLETIC TRAINING
The Athletic Training Room at EHS gives students access to two full-time, certified athletic trainers who are on staff and present for all home sporting events and practices, in addition to their availability for assessments and treatments before and after afternoon athletic periods.
Episcopal’s Athletic Trainers work in collaboration with both the Athletics Department and Health Services staff to evaluate all athletic injuries and make determinations regarding a student’s return to play and participation in athletic activity. They have a relationship with a
local orthopedist, who holds appointments each week for EHS students who require orthopedic evaluation of injuries.
All concussions sustained by EHS students are evaluated and managed by the Athletic Trainers, who follow up-to-date concussion care recommendations and follow current best practices for concussion assessment and management. They work in close collaboration with the Health & Wellness Center and Academic Support Team to determine an appropriate course to both concussion recovery and return to full academic participation and school commitments.
Spiritual LIFE
Our chaplaincy offers a unique support within Episcopal for both students and their families. We are committed to students being able to enrich the spiritual part of their lives while away at school. Students attend, and our student Vestry organizes, three chapel services per week and a monthly Vespers service, where we often welcome outside speakers to campus. Chapel offers a time to gather together, to pray for community needs and sing, and to wrestle with some of the big questions of our lives like who are we becoming and why are we here.
Episcopal, as the name would imply, is an Episcopal school, but what does that mean? For us, it means we embrace God as a loving, lifegiving, and liberating presence in our world. It means the liturgy of the Episcopal Church is present in our services, and we offer a weekly optional service with communion. It means we offer baptism and confirmation to community members who are seeking that deeper relationship with Christianity and the Episcopal Church, specifically.
It also means we draw the circle wide to mirror the diversity of our community, including all faith traditions, cultures, races, gender and sexual identities, and community members who choose not to participate in organized religion. You will see this reflected in our Chapel Talks by chaplains and students, as well as in our programming on campus.
Being near Washington, D.C., we are fortunate to be close to many houses of worship, where students can seek off-campus experiences and we offer a worship shuttle on the weekends. We also have different on-campus fellowship and affinity spaces for students, including Christian and Muslim fellowships and a Jewish affinity group.

THE ROLL CALL
The Roll Call directly supports every student, providing around $8,000 per student each year. These funds are put to use right away to enrich daily life on campus.

KEEPING UP WITH CAMPUS HAPPENINGS
The Communications Office produces a weekly parent e-bulletin — EHS Weekly — designed to provide information about upcoming community events, weekly activities, and athletics contests, as well as links to recent Flickr albums.
In addition to this weekly e-bulletin, you will receive the monthly e-newsletter From the Hill, which celebrates life on The Holy Hill and highlights stories about our incredible EHS community.
We hope you will look forward to these communications as they are one of our primary vehicles for sharing important information. Feedback and suggestions for how we can improve our communication with you are always welcome and can be directed to communications@episcopalhighschool.org.
LIVE STREAMS
The Communications Office also oversees the publication of EHS: The Magazine of Episcopal High School, as well as other printed materials, and manages Episcopal’s website, all-school photography, and the School’s social media presence.
Episcopal live streams athletic contests, Chapel services, and other special events throughout the year. 17TH SEMINARY HILL CUP
OCTOBER 4, 2025
Founded in 2008, the Seminary Hill Cup (SHC) is an annual match-up between rivals EHS and St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (SSSAS) girls’ athletics, with athletes on the varsity and junior varsity teams competing to claim the cup. Come enjoy these spirited contests and cheer on The Maroon!

Family Weekends are designed to give EHS parents and guardians chances to see their students compete and perform, meet with faculty members, hear from Grade Deans and outside speakers, and connect with fellow EHS families. Each fall we host Friday Night Lights with exciting varsity girls’ and boys’ games played in Hummel Bowl.
SPIRIT WEEKEND
NOVEMBER 7 - 8, 2025
Join us to celebrate one of the nation’s longest-running high school rivalries. The tradition began at the turn of the 20th century, with Episcopal High School winning the first-ever game against Woodberry Forest School. More than a century later, their annual football game thrives, spirited with the rich tradition of competition. Alumni, parents, faculty, and students share in the fun of rooting our team to victory.
The home field advantage changes each year — The 124th Game will be played at Woodberry. Class tailgates are coordinated through the Advancement Office with support from parent volunteers.
Mark your calendars now for our Spirit of The High School Celebration Friday evening, November 7, 2025, in Charlottesville at Potter’s Craft Cider.

Enjoy theater on the Hill at the annual EHS Winter Musical. Students wow audiences in Pendleton Hall each year with the recent performances including “The Addams Family,” “Les Misérables,” and “Beauty and the Beast.”

Laird Dining Hall is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day and students also have access to the Snack Nook, the School Store, and Stewart Snack Bar each day. Two-to-three nights per week the School facilitates 10:00 p.m. delivery of food from local restaurants and the snack bar to dorms.
Families may send food and or groceries to students on the weekends; however, no student or family initiated food deliveries can occur Sunday 7:00 p.m. through Friday 5:00 p.m. (This includes groceries.)

Parents who wish to coordinate a birthday treat or gift for their child should contact their student’s advisor or dorm head in advance of the day to ensure timely, proper delivery. This important communication will help avoid lost/misplaced/misdelivered birthday surprises.
