onoma County is a beautiful, peaceful wine country that’s just thirty miles north of San Francisco and is the largest wine producer in Northern California’s Wine country region. If you are looking to taste some delicious and authentic Northern Californian wine, then Sonoma County has the perfect selection of wineries and wines for you. There’s more than 425 wineries-from small family wineries to globally recognized wine houses that include award-winning California wines. There’s a little bit of everything for any wine lover. Along with its stunning vineyards and collection of wineries, Sonoma County has some exquisite spa retreats and wellness centers that will help restore your mind, body and soul. Enjoying fine wine while relaxing at a lavish spa? What more could you ask for from a vacation.

5 Amazing Sonoma Wineries Indulge yourselves in some of Sonoma County’s most delicious, award-winning wines that will surely make you feel like a million bucks. Sonoma has one of the most diverse winegrowing regions in the world, with the Pacific coastline, redwood forests, fertile valleys and mountains producing an array of exceptional wines. But since there are so many different wineries to choose from, I thought I might recommend the top five wineries in Sonoma that are definitely worth a visit. 1. Rodney Strong Vineyards, Healdsburg There are several reasons to visit this winery, as they don’t just produce ‘good’ wines, but have created a ‘boutique winery within a winery’ that offer premium, small-lot wines. Rodney Strong have sustainably farmed 13 estate vineyards and produce wines from Sonoma County’s finest valleys like Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley, Chalk Hill and the Sonoma Coast. It’s located south of the town of Healdsburg and is nestled in the vineyards of the Russian River Valley. They recently opened a tasting room that features an elegant, Sonoma County farmhouse feel. Rodney Strong also hosts an annual Summer Concert Series that takes place in the summer, where you will be in the middle of all the action. What better way to enjoy a summer evening than sipping on some fine wine while enjoying the beautiful vineyards and amazing music. If you would like more information on Rodney Strong Vineyards, you can visit their website at https://www.rodneystrong.com/.

Gloria Ferrer Caves & Vineyards

St. Francis Winery & Vineyards

2. Gloria Ferrer Caves & Vineyards, Sonoma This winery is set in the rolling hills of the stunning Carneros region in southeastern Sonoma County. It was designed to illustrate the historic California missions and the heritage of the Catalonian family, who were the owners of the Freixenet cava brand. Gloria Ferrer is also the first winery to produce world-class sparkling wine in Carneros and is an icon of Sonoma Valley. Their wines are a reflection of their two unique estates-the Sonoma Mountains and Wildcat Peak, which protects the vineyard from the strong breezes and supplies the alluvial soils that nourish their Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines.

Gloria Ferrer Caves is at the gateway to Sonoma Wine Country and is 40 miles north of San Francisco, which is at the southern tip of the county. With the soft hillside air, cooling bay breeze and bright sunshine, Gloria Ferrer is the Buena Vista Winery perfect place to enjoy some unique sparkling wines and bask in the glory of their gorgeous vineyard. For more information about Gloria Ferrer Caves & Vineyards, you can visit their website at https://www.gloriaferrer.com/. 3. Buena Vista Winery, Sonoma Buena Vista is the oldest commercial winery in California and is the birthplace of the state’s modern wine industry.

This winery existed even before the famous Napa and Sonoma wine countries came into the picture, and was owned by the self-proclaimed “Count of Buena Vista” Agoston Haraszthy. This legendary winery has been re-born under the vision of Jean-Charles Boisset and is now a historic landmark in California. It is also home to their tasting room and visitor’s center. You can sign up for winery’s “Be the Count Experience” and blend yourself some wine just like the Count himself would have done it, or enjoy a flight while touring Buena Vista’s Wine Tool Museum. Don’t be surprised if you run into the Count himself because it’s all a part of the experience. If you have ever been curious as to how historical wines taste like, now is your chance to experience just that. You can visit the Buena Vista Winery website for more information at https://buenavistawinery.com/.

4. St. Francis Winery & Vineyards, Santa Rosa Have you ever wondered what the top restaurant in the U.S. is that is not technically considered a ‘restaurant’? Well, look no further than St. Francis Winery & Vineyards. Users on OpenTable.com have named this winery as the best restaurant in the U.S., with its unique pairing of food and wine. The pairing features a multi-course tasting menu that’s prepared by the winery’s own executive chef, who uses produce and herbs that have been grown on the estate. The delicious food is paired with wines from St. Francis’s artisan collection. Along with enjoying the exquisite wines and meals, you can make a reservation for an elegant Artisan Tasting Flight that features rare winery exclusives. There’s also a sustainable Tour de St. Francis Pedal Trolley tour where you can explore the estate and marvel at the breathtaking mountains and vineyard views. This is definitely a one-of-a-kind Sonoma experience that you don’t want to miss out on. If you would like more information about the St. Francis Winery & Vineyards, you can check out their website https://www.stfranciswinery.com/.

5. Ledson Winery & Vineyards, Kenwood Wine and dine in this magnificent wine castle located in the stunning Kenwood city. Ledson Winery & Vineyards is not technically a castle but with its gothic spires, archways and huge courtyard, it sure does look like one. The style of the ‘castle’ is French Normandy and was originally built as a family residence. The inside is beautifully furnished, has private rooms, a second-floor seating area and a full deli. There are picnic grounds under the oak trees as well, where you can enjoy a mouthwatering picnic from the winery’s very own Gourmet Marketplace while admiring the mountainous backdrop of the Sonoma Valley. Ledson’s wines are aged in French oak barrels from the finest coopers and forests, with a variety of toast levels used to add complexity and nuance. aerial tour of Sonoma Valley Sonoma County is infamously known for its picturesque vineyards and alluring wines to match, yielding a plethora of wine tours you can choose from. Sonoma Ballooning likes to do things a little differently though, and grant you a whole new perspective on why California rightfully earned its Wine Country title. Operating as a premier hot air balloon company, Sonoma Ballooning is dedicated to providing riders a unique, aerial tour of Sonoma Valley while indulging in various wines from the area. With the balloons climbing up to 3,000 ft. during the ride, this tour isn’t for the faint of heart! Not every flight lover has the same thing in mind when they think about a hot air balloon ride - that’s why Sonoma Ballooning offers three different flight options that guests can choose from, whether they want a smooth, simple ride or an in-depth flying experience. Whichever way you want to spend your time in the air, rest assured that safety and precautions will always be set in place before liftoff. If the pilot deems the weather too risky or unpredictable, they will postpone the balloon ride until further notice. Speaking of the pilots, guests can take comfort in the fact that all of them are required to be FFA (Federal Aviation Administration) Certified Pilots - so yeah, you’re in good hands. Join-In Flight Tour For this classic tour, riders can expect roundtrip transportation from almost any hotel in Sonoma - it’s all complimentary! To settle any nerves before the actual flight begins, refreshments and snacks will be handed out while the pre-flight inspections take place.

Then once you’re high up in the air, you have up to one full hour to take in all the sights and beauties of Sonoma County. And to top it all off, a postflight champagne toast will be awaiting your return to ground to commemorate your aviation victory. A flight certificate is also available upon request - great for bragging rights!

Balloon & Blending Tour This balloon package includes all of the above from the previous tour, but with a more cultural twist to it. While in the air, guests will learn all about the art and culture behind the wineries they’re viewing from the balloon! After the post-flight champagne, the fun continues with a wine country tour heading to the Meadowcroft Wines’ Blending Seminar. Here, guests will learn about winemaking and what all goes into the process. You’ll start with a stroll through their lavish vineyard and taste a large array of wines made in-house. Before you set foot back in the hot air balloon to conclude your day, guests will get the opportunity

to create their own special blend of wine to enjoy during the trip back. Bottoms up! Flight + Farm + Wine Tour Calling all animal lovers! Perhaps the most eventful tour, it has everything the Join-In flight offers but so much more! Following the champagne toast after landing, La Belle Vie Tours will pick up guests in their Mercedes Sprinter Van and take them to see none other than Charlie’s Acres Farm Animal Sanctuary.

“Sometimes you have to go up really high to understand how small you are.” - FELIX BAUMGARTNER

The farm houses all types of beautiful animals that were either abused or meant for the dinner table unfortunately. They show visitors just how intelligent and meaningful these animals are, and why they’re meant for so much more than ending up on your dinner plate. Concluding the farm tour, guests will then visit two local wineries that are completely vegan, along with a lunch. It doesn’t get much better than wine and animals! Whether you’re in it for the flying credentials, winetasting, or even the farm animals, Sonoma Ballooning Company can’t steer you wrong. Where else would you tour the birthplace of California Wine from thousands of feet in the air? If this sounds like your kind of thing, check out sonomaballooning.com for all the fine details. EXPLORING

SANTA ROSA'S ART, CULTURE, AND WINE

For contemporary art lovers, a visit to the South A Street Art District (SOFA) is a must. Thanks to its central location in the heart of Sonoma County, Santa Rosa is a perfect jumping-off point for exploring Wine Country. But with its renowned wineries and breweries, dynamic art scene, eclectic boutiques, and local foodie culture, this vibrant urban center is a destination. Inspiring Art - For contemporary art lovers, a visit to the South A Street Art District (SOFA) is a must. Several galleries and artsrelated businesses are located on the SOFA grounds as well as nearly forty working artists' studios. Additionally, the lively street is lined with intricate and inspiring murals, as well as independent eateries, breweries, music cafés, and more. Field of Dreams - Hidden among the chardonnay and pinot noir vines of Balletto Vineyards is a four-acre, regulation-size baseball diamond. Several years ago, John Balletto's vineyard staff approached him about sponsoring their baseball team. A baseball field was built on the vineyard property as a result. The children now run, bats swinging, and there is lots of laughter every Sunday during the spring and summer. There are dozens of other interesting wineries and vineyards in Santa Rosa you should visit during your stay - though none have its own "field of dreams." Local Treasures - As Sonoma County’s biggest city, Santa Rosa is a top place to shop for local treasures. Montgomery Village Shopping Center is a village within a city and features an eclectic assortment of small, family-owned shops such as Urban Garden, which sells home and garden goods, and Adelle Stoll, which makes handcrafted bags and jewelry.

There is also outdoor dining, a coffee shop, and several events held in the village every year. Whimsical Sculptures - From Mario Uribe’s steel-and-cactus Peace Tree to Bruce Johnson’s 16-foot Sequoia, the Sculpture Garden at the Museum of Sonoma County houses one of the region’s most whimsical art collections. Located in downtown Santa Rosa, the museum and garden are within walking distance of area shops and restaurants - making them a great day trip destination.

Our hospitality staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and happy to answer all your questions, including why different types of wine glasses are used for different varietals and what it means for a wine to have "legs." SPIT - You should keep your wits about you if you are visiting more than a few wineries in a single day. Spit into the buckets on the counter after tasting. It's common and appreciated, we promise.

LEARN YOUR STYLE - Wine varietals include crisp, minerally Chardonnays as well as creamy, buttery ones. While tasting, inquire about the different types of each varietal to determine your personal preference. HAVE FUN - Don't be intimidated. Wine tasting really isn't meant to be stuffy and serious - enjoy the experience and make it your own. GUESTS SHOULD BE 21 OR OLDER - Guests must be 21 years old or older to taste wine. Check with the wineries you'll be visiting about activities they offer for underage guests if you're bringing kids or teens with you. USE YOUR TASTING FEE - There are many wineries that charge for tastings and tours, and then waive the costs with a purchase. Each one works differently, so make sure to inquire.

Haunted SONOMA DOWNTOWN TOUR

S

triking vineyards and sunshine may not be the only thing following you in Sonoma County…

With the help of Napa City’s Ghosts & Legends Walking Tour, see for yourself what exactly lurks in downtown Sonoma and why it continues to stay all these years. As long as you can muster up the courage to stay for the duration of the walking tour, tour groups will get to hear an abundance of spooky and chilling tales while walking around the Sonoma Plaza, among other locations. Will you come into contact with the Native American spirits who roam the Mission Trail? Is there something paranormal going on in the Sonoma Plaza? Grab your flashlights and come find out. The haunted tour will include infamous Sonoma sights such as: THE WHIPPING TREE Throughout the mission era of Spanish colonization, and even after, Native Americans residing in where Sonoma County is today were subject to brutal and ruthless massacres and murders. The Whipping Tree serves as a constant reminder to the cruel, heinous crimes that the Natives endured under the hands of the Spanish. Some were taken to this sight to be flogged, humiliated, and others were even left for dead. Because of this dark history surrounding the tree, it’s no surprise that tour-goers often report seeing strange lights illuminating the tree trunk at night. Some suggest it’s the lingering energy from all those who perished under the tree…

CITY HALL Typically, a city hall is the last place to expect ghostly activity… However, situated on the west side of Sonoma City Hall, people have been experiencing just that. Visitors and tour groups alike have both witnessed a little boy ghost wandering the city hall and the surrounding area. There are some accounts who have seen him casually swinging on the playground, paying no mind to anything or anyone around him. But worry not, this little boy is known to be very friendly, and is perhaps just looking for a friend to join him on the swingset. Any volunteers? MISSION SOLANO Established in 1823, the makings of this historic church were filled with ill intent from the start. The purpose of this Spanish mission church was to convert the Natives to Catholicism, believing that their religion was the superior one - the lead force behind this unjust conversion was Father Jose Altimira. Much like the Whipping Tree, many tragic deaths took place due to the mistreatment and neglect from the Spanish colonizers. And to defile the Natives’ identity and culture even further, their bodies were buried and left in unmarked, disregarded graves near the church. Because of these tragedies, many believe this is why the spirits are at such unrest and haunt the church grounds. But that’s not all; because of the priest apparition that is frequently seen, there are claims that Father Altimira himself haunts the solano. With rumors of demonic possession happening at the chapel, it’s very plausible that Father Altimira is just as evil in death as he was in life. *The popular Youtube channel Buzzfeed Unsolved has also investigated here!

SKATE ALONGSIDE THE PEANUTS AT

SNOOPY'S HOME ICE by MORGAN BORLAND

As a beloved Peanuts character ever since the 1950s, Snoopy could always do it all… including ice skating! Nestled in Santa Rosa, Snoopy’s Home Ice is a Peanuts-themed ice skating rink owned and built by none other than Charles M. Schultz himself - the creative genius behind the Peanuts cartoon. This hidden gem has all kinds of activities to last you for hours, ranging from ice hockey, to figure skating, to even ice dancing! Even if you’ve never stepped foot onto ice, don’t worry. Snoopy and the gang have you covered! Learn to Skate - Snoopy’s Skating School for Beginners Following the Learn to Skate USA curriculum, this amateur class teaches you the very basics of skating and how to stay safe during your first time. The class is endorsed by United States Figure Skating and USA Hockey and is available to all ages. There’s also seven different lesson programs offered, all depending on your individual skill level. This includes:

Toddlers on Ice Ideally for toddlers aged 18 months to 4 years old, this program can help get your youngest skating in no time. They’ll learn the necessities of skating, like keeping their balance on the ice and exploring large motor development. And if that doesn’t tempt your young one, tell them each week has a fun and new theme! For example, expect festive Christmas outfits for the holidays and “color”

week where you can only wear one specific color! Parent and Puppy Practice This lesson helps create a special bond between a parent and child who have an interest in skating but aren’t sure where to start. It’s one of the slower sessions offered and tends to both toddler and adults at the same time. Chairs and buckets are also provided for any first-timers out there.

Group Lessons It’s hard to pick up a new hobby if you’re doing it alone. This unique group lesson package helps you get started knowing that you’ll have other people there with you in the same boat. The package includes things like once per week half-hour lessons, admission to the public skating session, skate rental, weekly name badge, and the best skating instruction.

Drop-In Lessons Taught by a Snoopy Home Ice instructor, this is another class perfect for beginning skaters or for those who don’t have enough free time to commit to lessons every day. This is also a good place to start if you’ve gotten pretty comfortable on the ice but not quite yet ready for private lessons. Coffee Club It’s as good as it sounds… Any Coffee Club members will be given a two-hour long skating session to ensure they have enough time to learn everything they need to feel ready and capable on the ice. After the lesson ends, club members can head over to the Puppy Cafe and warm up with a hot cup of well-deserved coffee.

Intro to Hockey Interested in joining the big leagues one day? This hockey-intensive program is paired up with the Santa Rosa Junior Hockey Club (SRJHC) to teach you how to play ice hockey. By the time the class is over, individuals will know how to not only skate, but skate while holding a hockey stick, puck handling, and incorporating passing and shooting with the puck. With the fundamentals of ice skating aside, Snoopy’s Home Ice also delivers world-class entertainment with their hosting of birthday parties, like Charlie Brown’s Ice Side Party and the Snoopy Special Party Package - where Snoopy himself makes a special guest appearance in the “Peanuts” Party Room!

It’s not everyday that you come across an organization where both ice skating and Peanuts characters reside in the same place. Snoopy’s Home Ice takes all the fear away from first-time skating, for toddlers especially, and makes it a more approachable experience for them by providing a comforting, helping hand from trusty ol’ Snoopy or Charlie Brown. If you or your little one is interested in ice skating but a little hesitant, try out https://www.snoopyshomeice.com in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County - The Peanuts can't wait to see you.
