2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Draw Two big announcements greeted U.S. Women’s National Team fans in time for the holiday season: The Americans will go on a 10-game, 10-city tour in preparation for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France—with a stop at Chester’s Talen Energy Stadium—and they learned of their draw for that world cup. The defending champion and world No. 1 USWNT will be in Group F, where they’ll meet Thailand, Chile and Sweden. The Americans open the tournament on June 11 against Thailand. The draw is a good one for the United States. While Sweden is a traditional power, Thailand and Chile will be playing in their second and first world cup respectively. The Swedes pose a threat—after all they defeated the Americans in a penalty shootout at the 2016 Summer Olympics—but progression to the knockout stages shouldn’t be too much of a challenge for the USWNT.
