Diana, first wife of the heir to the British throne, died aged 36 in Paris on Aug. 31, 1997, after the limousine carrying her and lover Dodi al-Fayed crashed in a tunnel as it tried to escape paparazzi who were chasing them on motorbikes. Diana was just 19 when she was betrothed to Charles in 1981, but the marriage broke down. Diana blamed Camilla Parker Bowles, Charles’s lover who later became his wife, for the collapse of the marriage. In a documentary planned to coincide with the 20th anniversary of Diana’s death, broadcaster Channel 4 will show footage of her speaking about her marriage during privately recorded sessions with an adviser on public speaking. The footage includes Diana speaking about her sex life with Charles. “It was just so odd. I don’t know there was no requirement for it

from his case,” Diana says. “Sort of once every three weeks.” “And then I followed a pattern, he used to see his lady once every three weeks before we got married,” she said. Diana also relates how she approached Queen Elizabeth to discuss the failing marriage. “She said, ‘I don’t know what you should do, Charles is hopeless’. And that was it,” Diana said. She also said Charles’s father, Prince Philip, had given him permission to have an affair if the marriage did not work. The footage of Diana was filmed at Kensington Palace in 1992 and 1993 by speech coach Peter Settelen. After a lengthy court battle, the tapes were handed to Settelen. Segments of the tapes were aired in the United States by channel NBC. In 2007, British broadcaster the BBC also tried to use the tapes for a documentary, but the film was scrapped. (rtr)

“Harry Potter” author Rowling apologises over Trump tweets

LONDON - “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling has apologised to the family of a wheelchair-bound boy for tweets in which she accused U.S. President Donald Trump of ignoring his proffered hand at a media event. Rowling branded Trump a “monster of narcissism” after footage of a July 24 news conference on healthcare showed the president seemingly ignoring the three-year-old’s hand, but shaking other people’s as he left the event.

Dealing with trash, Jatiluwih village makes a rule and TPS 3R

MANGUPURA - Even though this was the first Nusa Dua Light Festival, hundreds of thousands of visitors attended. Local visitors, young and old made the festival a lovely venue to take pictures and enliven social media accounts. This event was part of efforts by the ITDC (Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation ) to increae hotel occupancy in the area. President Director of the ITDC, Abdulbar M Mansoer, at the closing ceremony on Sunday (Jul. 30) stated that the event was considered to be a great success because even though this was the first time that the Nusa Dua Light Festival was held, it managed to draw thousands of visitors. Over the course of the 44 days of the festival, there were 200,000 foreign, local and domestic tourists who attended. Although there were only about 2,00 visitors per day at the start of the festival, by the end there were far more people who came to see the spectacular knick-knacks with thousands of lights illuminating the Peninsula Island. Ticket sales alone brought in IDR 2.4 billion. “We were expecting only 2,000 visitors a day,

but in fact there 200,000 visitors for 44 days which averages to about 5,00 visitors a day. The First Lady and family of President Jokowi also had time to visit this festival”, he said. The popularity of this event with both locals and tourists has encouraged the organizers of the Nusa Dua Lights Festival to make this an annual event. “This event was part of our efforts to increase hotel occupancy rates in Nusa Dua and surrounding area. The Nusa Dua Fiesta that is been running for 19 years and the Bali Blues Festival that has been running for three years are also important but for sure we will be holding the Nusa Dua Light Festival again next year with an even better format” he explained. Mansoer added that about 10 percent of the people who attended the festival were foreign tourists. “We have yet to calculate the occupancy rates over this period, but this festival definetly made a significant contribution as in-house guests (those staying at ITDC area) and guests coming specifically to the Light Festival were quite a lot”, he explained. Violators to face sanctions

TABANAN - The waste problem that has yet to be adequately dealt with in Jatiluwih customary village has pushed village officials to create a village rule and warns that violators will face sanctions. Village rule (Perdes) No.8/2017, firmly regulates sanitation, protection and environmental management. Sanctions include penalties such as being banned form receiving services from the Jatiluwih village government. “We have examined this village and created this rule by involving all relevant parties and institutions including local villagers, the Jatiluwih tourist attraction management and other relevant parties”, explained the headman of Jatiluwih, I Nengah Kartika, on Tuesday (Aug. 1). Along with the village rule and accompanying sanctions, this village that is famous for as an agricultural tourist destination is also preparing a waste bank and encouraging the three Rs (reduce , reuse, recycle) with their TPS3R program. The waste bank is located on the border of Jatiluwih village and Mengesta village in Kesambahan Kelod hamlet. “We have no land property, so the area of ??1,000 square meters for the TPS3R is being purchased by the village in cooperation with the Jatiluwih tourist attraction”, he said. The TPS3R will function as a waste bank for Jatilu-

wih village, for processing garbage form households, restaurants, cafes and other businesses. Meanwhile, the village has obliged businesses to make septic tanks to accommodate liquid waste so that the irrigation channels will not be polluted. Jatiluwih has been designated as a world cultural heritage by UNESCO and so such pollution is all the more unsuitable. “Garbage will be transported by officers three times a week, and sorted at the junk bank. At this stage, the waste that can be separated, recycled and resold. This is part of the concept of community based tourism” he explained. Karitka affirmed that village rule and the preparation of the TPS3R will indeed help to overcome the garbage problem that has long plagues the area of ??Jatiluwih village. The success of this policy requires public awareness and having people obey the rules that have been agreed upon. People caught littering will be imposed with a fine of IDR 25,000, disposing of waste into river or water channels (IDR 50,000), any businessmen be it a restaurant, lodging, stall or other entrepreneurs found dumping solid and liquid waste into irrigation channels (IDR 75,000); putting goods carelessly on road body or sidewalk (IDR 75,000); disposing of pesticide bottle carelessly (IDR 25,000); and disposing of livestock waste (IDR 75,000). “Anyone who violates these rules and who does not pay the fine will be prohibited form receiving village services from the village government of Jatiluwih”, he concluded. Veiled marketing: Antismoking groups slam Indonesia’s Big Tobacco

JAKARTA - Anti-smoking groups in Indonesia have slammed Big Tobacco for promoting sales by giving retailers cash rewards, shopping vouchers and even money to renovate, urging authorities to enforce advertising curbs to safeguard public health.

The country with one of the highest smoking rates in the world does have a national regulation in place to restrict cigarette advertisements, including a ban on tobacco firms promoting their products while acting as a sponsor. But it is inconsistently enforced by regional authorities. Cigarette makers are making the most of this, tying up with small retailers and rewarding them for in-store promotion of products, the anti-smoking groups said. By mid-2016, Philip Morris-controlled PT Hanjaya Mandala Sampoerna Tbk (HMSP.JK), PT Gudang Garam Tbk (GGRM.JK) and Djarum Group had partnered 513 shop-owners in four cities surrounding Jakarta, a study by the Indonesian Public Health Association (IAKMI) shows. LONDON - Shares of major tobacco companies in the U.S. and UK slumped in heavy volumes on Friday after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said that it was seeking to reduce nicotine levels in cigarettes. British American Tobacco shares, trading close to all-time highs, fell as much as 11 percent and were on track for their biggest oneday loss in nearly 18 years. Altria, which makes the Marlboro brand of cigarettes, fell as much as 16 percent, slipped into the red for the year. When entering July to August, many Hindu communities in Bali hold pitra yadnya (cremation) ceremony in the form of mass ngaben. People should not only prepare various types of banten (oblations) that are quite complicated but also make a means in the form of bade (carrier) and petulangan (sarcophagus). Not everyone can make them as the process is quite complicated and in need of patience. Therefore, some people must buy. One of the makers can be found at Takmung village, Banjarangkan. When visited on Tuesday (Aug. 1), his showroom looked so simple. His building is semi-permanent. The room is filled in with many sarcophagus in the form of bulls. They have the height of three meters. Indeed, the size is also quite large, bigger than real bull wrapped in black velvet fabric, on the neck is decorated with Balinese carved ornaments. The head is decorated with gold-colored headdress.

It looks so beautiful like a real bull. Next to it sits a five-meter high bade tower. Red color merged with gold-colored carving makes it look beautiful. Amid the object, the owner, Made Medal, is busy making a carving from paper. One by one of the elements are showed in details. Amid his busyness, he does not hesitate to tell stories. Ngaben season is a source of fortune for him. Of course, the orders keep coming, not only come from Klungkung mainland, but also from Nusa Penida, Gianyar and Bangli. Not infrequently, he and his friends should take overtime so as to accomplish the order immediately. “Our orders are pretty good so we must often work overtime to meet the deadline,” he said. Within two months, he claimed to get ten pairs of orders consisting of bade tower and sarcophagus of various sizes. For large sizes, a pair can be accomplished within one week. Moreover, if buyer urgently needs, it can be completed in shorter time. “The selling price depends on the size. However, the standard one is sold for IDR 30 million,” he said. Although the price is fantastic, he does not immediately take pride in his heart. Such nominal is judged comparable to his hard work. Many orders and short deadline does not make this man from Tusan village, Banjarangkan, neglect the quality of his work. Everything still refers to the existing standards, where one of them is in terms of size and design for each category. “Keep referring to the standard is a must. In the Subak Kana area, at local hamlet, a number of residents coalesced into the Bali Organic Mai Garden (KMOB) develop organic farming synergized with tourism sector. For example, they can make compost, plant crops, do seedling, harvest to attend cooking class of Balinese traditional cuisines made from organic plants they pick themselves. DENPASAR — Bali has not been free from measles and rubella virus infection. Measles disease still attacks toddlers. Moreover, currently the measles also affect junior high and high school children. The last case emerged at the end of 2016 in Nusa Penida where some residents were attacked by measles and rubella. In 2016, out of the 144 cases, 46 were declared positive to measles. In the same year with the same number of cases, 27 people were declared positive to get infected by rubella, while in 2017 of the 385 cases, 34 cases were declared positive to measles and 15 positive to rubella. This was disclosed by Section Head of Surveillance and Immunization, the Bali Health Agency, I Gusti Ayu Raka Susanti, on Monday (Aug. 1). “Currently, it does not only happen to students of elementary school but also to junior and senior high school. Some of them were attacked by measles and rubella,” she said. Therefore, the government again promoted the administration of measles and rubella vaccination. This time, the newly administered vaccine is a combination of measles and rubella known as measles-rubella (MR). Previously, a child was given a vaccine at the age of 9 months and then repeated (booster) at the age of 1.5 years. However, in this MR vaccination program, children aged 9 months to 15 years are given one injection, disregarding previous immunization status. Foreign travelers learning yoga at Shanti Toya Ashram in Penarungan village, Mengwi, Badung, were invited to start their program with a mejaya-jaya ritual. They took part in a melukat (purificatory rite) and cleansed themselves physically and psychically through a ceremony officiated over by Ida Panditha Mpu Putra Yoga Parama Dhaksa, at Geria Agung Batur Sari, Mengwi, on Friday (Jan. 6). A total of 15 foreigners from various countries including the Philippines, Malaysia, the USA, Korea joined in the mejaya-jaya ritual. Venezuelan vote data casts doubt on turnout at Sunday poll

CARACAS - Only 3.7 million people had voted by 5.30 p.m. in Venezuela’s controversial Constitutional Assembly election on Sunday, according to internal electoral council data reviewed by Reuters, casting doubt on the 8.1 million people authorities said had voted that day.

The election of the legislative super-body has been decried by critics as illegitimate and designed to give the unpopular government of President Nicolas Maduro powers to rewrite the constitution and sideline the oppositionled congress. In response to the vote, the U.S. government slapped sanctions on Maduro on Monday, calling him a dictator for “seizing absolute power.” The low turnout would be a major indictment of Maduro, especially after the opposition last month held its own unofficial vote in which it said more than 7.5 million voted against the government’s controversial assembly. The documents, which break the data down into Venezuela’s 14,515 polling centers, show that 3,720,465 people had voted by 5.30 p.m. “Although it’s possible to have a late push at the end of the day, and the Socialist Party has tried to do that in the past, to double the vote in the last hour and a half would be without precedent,” said Jennifer McCoy, a political scientist who led several election observation missions to Venezuela for the Atlantabased Carter Center. The electoral council extended voting to 7 p.m. but some centers are thought to have stayed open longer. Venezuelan authorities did not respond to a request for comment on the voting data.

Venezuela is undergoing a major crisis, with millions suffering food shortages, soaring inflation and months of anti-government unrest, making it more unlikely that such a positive turnout was obtained by the government. Authorities had heavily pressured state workers to vote, even threatening them with dismissal if they failed to do so. Several workers received phone calls from bosses or colleagues late in the day pushing them to vote. And electoral experts took issue with the vote process, which they say was riddled with irregularities. Many, including a member of the electoral council, questioned the count. “For the first time since I took up this commitment to the country, I cannot guarantee the consistency or veracity of the results offered,” said Luis Rondon, one of five directors of the electoral council in a statement on social media. The country’s chief prosecutor Luisa Ortega, long an ally of the government, also cast doubt on the figures. “I’m absolutely sure that those numbers are not correct,” she said on Monday. “What they announced was a mockery of the people.” Opposition leaders, who boycotted the vote, say there was outright fraud. They estimated only around 2.5 million people voted, while investment firm Torino Capital puts the figure at 3.6 million based on exit polls. The opposition has long complained that the electoral council allows unfair use of state resources in favor of the ruling Socialist Party and have in recent years questioned results. Nearly five months of demonstrations failed to stop Maduro carrying out the weekend election and the opposition is now looking to the military to see if it will pressure Maduro to enact its demands, which include presidential elections. Indonesia to be free of rubella by 2020: President Jokowi YOGYAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has expressed his hope that Indonesia would be free of rubella and measles by 2020. “I fully support the national campaign on immunization to protect the children from measles and rubella,” the Head of State said, when launching a national campaign on Measles and Rubella Immunization in a function held in Islamic Junior High School 10 in Sleman, here on Tuesday. The function was also attended by First Lady Iriana, Coordinating Minister for Culture and Human Development Puan Maharani, Minister/State Secretary Pratikno, Health Minister Nila Moeloek, Special Presidential Staff Staff Johan Budi SP, Yogyakarta Governor Sultan Hamengkubowono X, and Sleman District Head Sri Purnomo. According to him, immunization is crucial for childrens health as it could prevent deadly diseases. “That is the responsibility of parents and also the state,” he noted. In Indonesia, less than one percent of children have received measles and rubella immunization, while ideally it should be more than 95

percent, he noted. The government has a strong commitment to eliminate measles and control rubella and to make the country free of measles and rubella by 2020, he remarked. As a strategy, the government will provide immunization to children between nine months old and 15 years old. Under the Global Vaccine Action Plan, measles and rubella are targeted for elimination in five WHO Regions by 2020. WHO is the lead technical agency responsible for coordination of immunization and surveillance activities supporting all countries to achieve this goal. Measles is a highly contagious viral disease. It remains an important cause of death among young children globally, despite the availability of a safe and effective vaccine. Measles is transmitted via droplets from the nose, mouth, or throat of infected persons. Indonesia, which has drug laws that are among the world’s strictest, has been jailing a record number of users and dealers because of what the government says is a drugs emergency facing the country. The hardline approach to drugs is broadly popular in the Southeast Asian country, but the story of Fidelis Arie Sudewarto has stirred the sympathy and outrage of rights activists. The Sanggau district court in West Kalimantan province jailed Sudewarto for eight months and fined him 1 billion rupiah ($75,000), his lawyer Marcelina Lin said by telephone from the court. The term was longer than the five months sought by the prosecution. According to his lawyer, the court had found that Sudewarto did not have a permit to use marijuana and had supplied it to another person, although he said the judge accepted that he was not a user or a dealer. Lin said his client, a father of two, had cried on

hearing the verdict and was still considering whether to appeal. He is now being held in the Sanggau Correctional Institute. The sister of the convicted man, Yohana, also said the family was still weighing up whether he should appeal. “Because any decision won’t make his wife come back,” she said in a telephone text message. Rights groups and legal activists condemned the verdict. “Fidelis might have committed a crime in planting those marijuana bushes but it was done in an emergency situation,” said Andreas Harsono of Human Rights Watch. “He did that planting for his love of his wife. He should not be jailed for loving his wife,” said Harsono. The Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (ICJR) also called for all charges to be dropped. “This case should open the government’s eyes, especially those of the president whose statements about the war on drugs...have resulted in Fidelis becoming one of the victims.” President Joko Widodo recently told law enforcement officers to shoot drug traffickers to deal with the narcotics emergency in Indonesia. It is interesting to note that the only true remaining ancient remnants are the actual finely carved and decorated Candi Bentar, and the kala head. There are a few other stone sculptures in the same era. There are 54 stone seats in the temple grounds are commemorations to warriors who died in battle; each has an undecipherable inscription. MONTREAL - Grand slam king Roger Federer will kick off his North American hardcourt campaign and buildup to the U.S. Open by competing at the Rogers Cup in Montreal, the Swiss confirmed on Tuesday. “I’m happy to be coming back to Montreal, as I have not had the chance to play there for many years,” said Federer in a statement released by Tennis Canada. “This 2017 season has been very exciting and I am really looking forward to being back on the court on the ATP Tour.” Federer will be seeking his third Rogers Cup title but first in Montreal, where he has not competed since 2011 in the tournament that alternates between Montreal and Toronto, where he registered his previous wins in 2004 and 2006. MADRID - Neymar’s record-breaking 222 million euros ($263 million) transfer to French side Paris Saint-Germain moved a step closer on Wednesday when Barcelona said he had informed them of his intention to leave. His move to PSG has been heavily flagged in European media but has yet to be completed. “The player Neymar Jr, accompanied by his father and agent, has informed FC Barcelona this morning of his decision to leave the club in a meeting held at the club’s offices,” Barcelona said in a statement. “The club refer to the buy-out clause of his existing contract which as of 1 July totals 222 million euros.” Earlier the 25-year-old arrived at the club’s training ground to tell team mates he was moving to Paris, Catalan radio RAC1 reported. The Brazilian striker left the training area minutes later, it said, with the club confirming on Twitter that he had been given permission not to train. In October, the player signed a new Barcelona contract until 2021 in which his buyout clause was raised to more than double the biggest transfer fee in soccer history. In an interview published on Wednesday, the president of the national football league, Javier Tebas, said the league would not accept payment by PSG to trigger the release clause. KUALA LUMPUR- Chinese Football Association (CFA) vice president Zhang Jian says the country’s football authorities are fighting to keep pace with the rapid growth of the club game in China. The Chinese Super League has undergone massive growth over the last three years, with transfer fees and wages sky-rocketing as the battle for domestic and regional supremacy has intensified among wealthy owners. But while the local governing body has sought to keep the rampant spending under control, FIFA Council member Zhang believes his organisation has found it a challenge to stay ahead following major reforms within the CFA last year. “We’re in the first stage of our professional football development and more and more money is coming into the market and that makes the league very competitive and a lot of people are watching the matches,” Zhang told Reuters. “The Chinese professional league has only 20 years’ history so, compared with Europe, where they have played for more than a hundred years, we’re a very young league. “But we’re developing very fast and the central government is now very focused on football. The football league is very hot, but our regulations and our administration must fit the league. “We are facing some challenges. The first challenge is because of the fast improvement the clubs are making, they are developing very fast but the situation is that the CFA has only just reformed and has a new policy direction.

“In the old system, when the CFA published some policies everyone would follow but now because the league is growing we are trying to make a new system... now the CFA and clubs are trying to make sure everything fits for the new model.” Spending by Chinese clubs has been rampant with the Asian transfer fee record broken three times over an 18-month period before new measures implemented on the eve of the summer transfer window appeared to temporarily cool the market. The CFA has also sought to reduce the number of foreigners clubs are allowed to field in an attempt to safeguard at least one place in starting line-ups for local players under the age of 23. The moves are being made in an attempt to kick-start development that will ultimately improve the fortunes of a national team which continues to struggle to make an impact. “At this moment, the level of Chinese football is caused by the mistakes we made in the last 10 or 20 years,” Zhang added. “So no one knows how long it will take to fix, maybe it will be 20 years later. “In England or Germany, when their teams underperform their FAs need 20 years to put a development plan in place and it’s the same for China. We can’t say we will do something and then the team will reach a high level in three or five years. “We must plan to reach the top level in Asia by 2030, so we still have more than 10 years to do that and we need patience. NBC moving studio show to England for Premier League openers NEW YORK — NBC is moving its Premier League studio show to England for the season openers for the first time. The network said Wednesday that Rebecca Lowe will host broadcasts on site from Aug. 11-13 with a rotating group of the network’s analysts and commentators. The Premier League season opens on a Friday night for the first time on Aug. 11 when Arsenal hosts Leicester, a match called by Arlo White and Kyle Martino. Brighton, in the top division for the first time since 1982-83, hosts Manchester City on Saturday, with White and Robbie Earle commentating. The weekend concludes with Manchester United hosting West Ham on Sunday, with White and Robbie Mustoe the broadcasters. Lee Dixon and Graeme Le Saux, who are White’s usual broadcast partners, will be part of pitch-side and studio coverage for about 21 hours of on-site broadcasts. The network gains extra access to players and managers when it moves its coverage to the stadiums. “It has that feeling of let’s just get going. Everyone’s in a great mood because no one got injured yet.
